I was afraid of this…

This is what I was afraid of. A good defense is key to a playoff run. Doesn’t look like we’re going very far unless something changes with the defense.

No way we should have lost to the Lions. We’re a much better team than this.

Vick and the offense have been able to bail out the defense the past two weeks. Didn’t happen this week.

Once again, Vick doesn’t take care of the ball and it cost us points.

Need a win next week in the Dome.

Go Falcons!

Why is anybody surprised? The Falcons defense is absolutely horrible. John Abraham won’t play another down for Atlanta, that was a mistake to trade for John Esasky. This team is done, stick a big ole fork in them!

BOO-HOO!!! First Georgia got whipped on by a bunch of kittens (Kentucky) now the Atlanta Falcons got served on a silver platter by the 1-6 Detroit Lions???? Judgement Day must be comming soon. Falcons secondary is very horrid. Has more holes in it than Swiss Cheese. Don’t make plans for the playoffs just yet.

What a secondary we have. I understand that our rush has been hampered by Abraham being out, but to allow time after time a third and twelve for them to throw on our soft secondary and make first down is pitiful. There is no way we can lose to a 1-6 team, no matter how under estimated they are, and make an impact in the playoffs. Maybe not even make them. Such a step back after the offense picked it up the last two weeks.

Everything they gained by beating Cincy last week on the road, they gave back this week in detroit. You have to win winnable road games. Championship teams win these games

I don’t know who/what this team is…

THE 8-8 FALCONS SHOULD NOT EXPECT A CHEERING CROWD WHEN THEY RETURN TO THE DOME NEXT WEEK. SPEAKING AS A FOURTH YEAR SEASON TICKET HOLDER THIS IS EXACTLY WHY WE SELL OUR TICKETS TO OTHER FANS WHEN THE PRICE IS RIGHT. WE DESERVE A BETTER PRODUCT. THE TEAM IS NOT FLUID ITS ALWAYS A BREAKDOWN SOMEWHERE; REMINDS YOU OF A POORLY DESIGNED CAR AKA “LEMON. WHY IS THE RECIEVER COACH STILL COACHING? DIDNT HE PLAY GUARD IN COLLEGE? THIS IS WHY WE CANT DEVELOP OR DRAFT A DECENT RECIEVER.

Where you afraid the o-line would stink—the recievers would drop and drop and drop passes. The d-line would not show up—no pass rush even when they send everyone—the secondary…..the weakest part of a weak showing. The special teams were adverage at best. Vick gives them 14 points. Is this what you were afriad of—me too.

The falcons do not have any heart. How do you lose to a 1-6 football team. Wow, I thought that we was really going to be good , but I guess not. Mike Vick is still great , but when you have 9 drops passes then you not going to win many football games! He can’ t do it by him self! The defence is s** and d hall is a loud mounth. J web is s** and Jimmy Williams is not ready for thr NFL. Good teams beat bad team and I REALLY DON’T KNOW HOW GOOD WE REALLY ARE!

Too many drops again, too little defense. But I wouldn’t say we’re not going far. We’ve seen what this team’s potential is, we just need to execute consistently. Sounds cliche, but whatever needs to happen to foster consistency with this football team is what needs to happen…

I wasn’t able to see the game. Had to read it over the internet. Looked like our “Dion Wannabe” got his clock cleaned.

The Falcons should have won this game based on talent level alone! You can’t lose to the Lions! Well I guess you can, b/c they did!

This boils down to coaching! Fire Jim Mora Jr. The guy can’t get the team motivated and ready to play in the NFL? He can’t get his defense fired up to make critical stops. How can you get beat by a journeyman QB like Jon Kitna! Poor coaching by Mora, not getting the team to “be fired up and motivated”. They looked asleep for half the game!

Leave it to Atlanta, to make the Lions look like a playoff team!

Thanks Coach Mora. Where is the defense?! They can’t even stop the Lions from putting up over 400 yards of total offense! Bad drafting and trades put is in this place. Where is Ed Hartwell? The guy should be wearing a fraking ski mask when he gets his paycheck this week, and so should John Abraham. Bad moves. Spend all your money on free agents who are not on the field! Chris Crocker, I can see why Cleveland let you go. You can’t make a tackle in the open field, and you can’t pass defend. Where is Jimmy Williams? If the defense is so bad right now, will it hurt to get the guy some experience? Let the rookie show what he can do.

Just a forgetful game by Atlanta. There is no excuse. Forget about the fact they lost, is how they were outplayed in all areas of the game and showed zero motivation and passion for the game.

Sorry, two turn overs in the first half by the idiot Vick is what lead to this loss. Vick is probably the dumbest QB in the game today. He was second when Quincy Carter was playing but now he is first. I bet his IQ is 75 at best. Someone please talk some sense into the coachs and start MS…please got someone…

Say what you will about Alge Crumpler dropping passes. When the skies part and the seas calm and he catches a TD he gets it on with some kind of funk celebration. Of course that head bob thing that he does when he mistakenly catches a pass on the field is nothing short of spectacular. Here’s a tip Alge, just catch the ball, act like a professional and have some dignity and forget the stupid celebrations.

Vick gave them seven points by careless handling of the ball, then followed this with perhpas the most stupid interception one can throw—to a wide open opponent out of his own end zone.

We need an intelligent NFL QB, a head coach, a cornerback, and an owner that keeps his trunk out of his coach’s butt!

VICK IS BACK

Funny none of you shemales mention Vick’s two turnovers leading to 14 pts. Place the blame where blame is due.

You have to laugh at the last drive where Vick was trying to improve his stats and throws an interception on the last play. QB rating really penalizes you for interceptions doesn’t it.

Fire Jim Mora, Jr. There is absolutely no excuse for having this sort of letdown two years in a row.

This was the one game they should have stuck with the run game. Dunn and Vick were having a whole lot of succes on the ground. However, as usual, Gregg Knapp didn’t adjust.

The defense is horrible. Deangelo Hall is all talk. Roy Williams had a field day on him, as did Hines Ward. Chad Johnson did llok to bad against Hall, either.

Hartwell needs to be on the field. D. Williams makes a lot of tackles, but he cannot stop the run!!

Fire Jim Mora, Jr.

why cant atlanta do anything with the low hanging fruit? hotrod, damn that was funny. looks folks, atlanta’a problem is they weak. I said this last year when the bears beat atlanta up and down the field, they are soft. whats really making me upset with the falcons is even when they have bad teams over the years, you could point to a jesse tuggle, a scott case, a kenny johnson (going waay back there), i mean they always had at least ONE player who could be physical and occassionally wake up the defense with a big hit. Right now they have nothing. Crocker had a good hit in a preseason game, other than that, they are soft and definitely not physical. Mora is like a street bully, full of hot air but no substance when challenged. Thats exactly how the falcons play, hot air, full of mouth but when you challenge them, they fold. Thats why Deangelo Hall stays in trouble, hes the only one TRYING to care and be a enforcer out there but hes a corner.finally, another thing im embarrased about: for the last few years, someone on atlanta’s defense gets posterized, i mean, damn, did yall see that hit the runningback put on jason webster? just ran over him like a cartoon hit, just plain embarrassing and it was loud too. the foulcans are soft.

Mr. Blank gave all the resources to coach Mora and he seems to be a yes man kind of Head Coach. He does not take charge of his team and He also doesn’ t get the best out of his team. What happen to our Defense?J web should not have been playing and we should not be playing that soft zone on 3 and 18. Whats the problem with playing Cover 2 man under on 3 and long. The defense coach is a fool! We are too soft of a team on defense. Put Jimmy in and man to man on wide outs and have help over the top. Dam I am only 24 years old , but I can see that we are too soft on defense. We need Calvin Johnson next year! The wide outs are going to cost us the playoffs. Mike Vick is great and he has improve a lot, but the TEAM TOOK A BIG STEP BACKWARDS TODAY!

I’ve been a fan a long time….over 30 years…..today was a real disappointment.

I live in Ohio and took my kid to the game….and they got absolutely ABUSED by a really bad football team. I mean for crying out loud….Kitna was Carson Palmer’s back up.

This franchise has not taken the step from mediocrity until they can win games like this consistently. It seems we always seem to find ways to blow these.

Its a real step back after the past two weeks…hope they can find some defense….we get absolutely shredded by every QB we play!! God help us if we played the other Manning.

The falcons slept on Detroit. This happens. Even the top teams always do this. Look at Chicago. Do you think there fans are saying fire the coach? This happens folks. This loss is a total team loss. The Falcons got beat in every aspect of the game today. They were outplayed by a Lions team that wanted respect. The Falcons always seem to play at their worse against teams that are not as good but rise to the occassion against better teams.

The secondary has got to be one of the worse in the league. Also the defense needs Hartwell because he supports the run better that Brookings at middle linebacker.

How many times were the falcons close to a sack on Kitta today, about 5 or 6.

This is the NFL, everybody has good days and bad days, even the Dolphins beat the Bears for ctying out loud.

i disagree with everything but the fact that people DO come on the blogs to talk about vick in a bad way. Other than that, most of the people on the blog see what i see, that even when vick and the offense is playing good, they HAVE to score 30 points at least to beat the other team. the defense is just plain bad. this is not a playoff team. defense wins championships. peyton manning passed for 200 touchdowns last year but his defense is suspect, just like this year. the falcons are all hype and words but no substance, and thats coming from a falcon fan going waay back to around 1974. Im just in my early 40’s but been a lifelong falcon fan and i know my football. the team is really not that good, all that talent and no coaching, no foundation, not the right philosophy on how to win (finesse teams dont win championships).

defense has a lot of injuries- that happens. but all the drops- mora needs to show he is a tough SOB and fire the receivers coach. the whole crew lacks concentration and consistency, and you might as well start sending them a message by firing the coach responsible for them. that is what a head coach does, and it what separates those who command respect and fear vs those who just want to be pals. if you took several of those 3rd down drops and made them stick, it could have given the team a chance to get going.

If D Hall would shut his big fat mouth and quit trying(and I do mean trying) to act like a bad a%* he would be better off. He is all mouth and no game. Williams ate his lunch. Why is Arthur Blanks talking to Mora on the sidelines with six minutes to go? Why did we not run the ball and what the heck was wrong with Vick? This is a half a&* organization that has not played well on a consistent basis and looks like they never will. That was pitiful and there is no excuse for that kind of a performance. Coaches, players and everybody else that had anything to do with that half a&* effort should not show up to get a pay check because they don’t deserve it.

it seems that we are dealing with the same thing on saturdays that we deal with on sundays. when things go great, CMR is the greatest and MV7 for MVP! when things go bad, fire CMR! and MV7 is just a dumb black QB! Hire someone else to coach the dawgs even though no one can identify someone who is better. Bench vick and put in schaub even though schaub has completed less than 50% of his passes in the NFL, making it obvious that you only want schaub in because he is white.

The reality is folks CMR and MV7 have accomplished great things for the Dawgs and the Birds over the last six years. Both of their tenures started at the same time. Are either one perfect? Hell no! Are they both pretty darn good? Hell yes! Can they both have pretty darn ugly and heart breaking moments that make you want to rip your hair out? You better believe it! But they are who they are and they have both given us alot of cheer, fun, victories, and excitement on Saturdays and Sundays over the last 6 years.

Have patience with the 2 of them. Stop being a bunch of simple-minded morons. For the most part, most of the whiners are about sixteen years old at the most anyway, so please GROW UP! and do not comment on sports until you have watched sports for a little bit longer than about five or six years. Most of these idiots who are commenting have no clue who jim donnan or ray goff are or who jeff george, chris miller, or chris chandler are. they were too young for that. Hell, most of them probably do not even remember that Deion played for the falcons or that he is the real #21.

Next time someone says so nonchalantly we should fire CMR or we should bench or trade MV7, look at them and ask them if they actually saw garrison and zeir play for the dawgs, if they actually saw deion play for the braves and falcons, if they actually saw brian jordan play for the falcons, if they saw glanville and june jones coach the falcons, if they saw goof coach the dawgs, if they saw the magical tomahawk chop run in 1991, if they saw dale murphy play for the braves, if they saw all of the empty seats when the murph was playing for the braves, if they saw tech win half a championship in 1990, if they saw bobby ross coach tech, if they actually ever saw dale earnhardt ever race, if they ever saw dominique ever do one of his windwill slams for the hawks, if they were heart broken the day the hawks traded dominique, if they remember a day when there were no thrashers in this town, did they ever watch montana, marino, elway, aikman, or steve young play. hell, do they remember the time when Brett Favre was the most dominant QB in the game before he became what he currently is.

We can go further back than that but that should suffice. Just ask these so called experts these questions and they will probably not be able to answer any of these questions with a yes and they will therefore reveal themselves as either teenagers or as transplanted yankees. And if they are teenagers or transplanted yankees, then they have no basis for their stupid opinions to fire CMR and bench or trade Vick. I saw all of those things and all of those players and therefore am pretty content to ride the highs and lows with CMR and MV7 because over the last six years CMR and MV7, despite their obvious imperfections, have given me more reason to cheer, scream, root, and yell than i have had over the last 25 or so years.

I never thought I would be embarrased to be a Falcon fan but today my worst fears evovlved. The Lions took the Falcons to the wood shed. We were beat in every way possible. The defense looked like a bunch of punks getting their butts handed to them. The offense was non-existant. Vick gave up more points than he scored. Our pass defense is a joke. We made Kitna look like Johnny Unitas. It’s time for a complete coaching change.

I first would like to say to all the Vick haters. Shut your bleeping mouths…yes he made a horrible pass and didn’t hold the ball well when running and fumbled. He is to blame for that, but everyone who says start Matt Schaub, did you see the accurate passes Vick made to our receivers and tight ends who flat out dropped the ball. I agree with some of the other bloggers…our problem is with this coaching staff. We are so inconsistant. I am besided myself to know how we lost to the freakin’ Detriot Lions. Where is the heart and pride on this team? Forget who they have and don’t have…at least play with heart. I have resevered this judgement and have defended our coaching staff but Mr. Blank they need to go!!! We also need any reliable receiver out there that will simply catch the ball. Send Roddy White to NFL Eupore and give someone else a chance to catch balls on the NFL level.

Suck,

You are really out of it. Do you have evangelical aspirations? The defense us getting blamed by everyone but, listen, they’ve been torched every week. So, it’s nothing new. When your defense is bad, you have to score a lot on offense. The Falcons couldn’t do that today. Vick didn’t play well but his perfomance would have been much better if those butter-hooked receivers had held onto the seven passes they dropped.

An excerpt from Mo:

Uh, I would not overlook them, but if I was Atlanta, I would try to score a good 21 points on them the first half, then put some folks in to see how they do. The 4th quarter, if all goes well, should be without Vick under center.

How can the Falcons play so well and be so focused to win against the Bengals, and then play like that vs the Lions.

No playoff team loses to the Lions like that.

that was the most pathetic team effort I have seen in a long long time.

Falcons laid down and let them run over them.

Vick was the worst. Dunn cant run. Line cant block, defense forget about it.

Even the bears lost and so will the colts. No coach has ever had a winning record here. But mora does. Vick has the 3rd or 4th highest winning % of qbs since 2001. Yes defence is banged up. wrs can’t catch to save their lives. SO FRAKING WHAT!!!! We need to take this 1 game at a time. People.. people.. are you serious? Do you really think we are better off if Michael Vick is benched?? It is an easy thing to say but very ridiculous when you think about it. Please check out Matt Schaub’s record before you consider him the Great Hope of the Falcons. 5 key facts I dare you to dispute

  1. D. Hall - I believe he is tied leading the NFL in interceptions. Why the focus on D. Hall. What about Kerney and Brooking? Did we have any sacks?

  2. As far as Michael Vick is concerned the problem has always and still is that there is a lack of receiver support to depend on. 7 or 8 dropped passes today, unacceptable!! And why should he continue to run just to save the play when the receivers dont do their jobs to get open. So he can get tackled line a running back with 3 or 4 players jumping on him.. yeah right! (PS I do think Lelie is coming along nicely though but it took way too long for the coaches to get him involved. I spoke on that below)

  3. I will agree that the secondary is concerning. Lawyer Milloy is playing the way he should but Crocker and Webster are struggling. Milloy is off the field for one play and touchdown.

  4. The receivers coach and Gregg Knapp. They refuse to adjust when things dont work. They go into a game with a plan and refuse to let it go , even into the 3rd or 4th quarter. Fire them and start from scratch. There is talent wasting ( Vick, Crumpler, Norwood, Dunn, Griffith, etc)

  5. Ed Hurtwell . Ooops I mean Hartwell. It has been 1 and 1/2 years. It is time to let it go, cut your loses and free up money to hire for the pieces we are still missing.

All that said, I am a die hard Falcons fan and I do not think it is over for my team this year. I wrote your names down so when we turn it around I will be calling you bandwagon flip flop fans out when you become all about the falcons again!!

At what point in a QB’s career does he learn the carry the ball correctly when out of the pocket? Vick is a running QB - that the Falcons staff has not focused on how he carries the ball, week in and week out, makes today’s fumble a coaching mistake. It’s not like Vick is a rookie - time to teach him to tuck the ball!

Mora is just not the man for the job. Again he comes from a losing organization while he was there, and he has brought that crap here. Yeah the Falcons will win 8 maybe 9 games, but really is that good enough. With all the talent Blank has paid for this is slightly above average team due to coaching or lack there of. No imagination with the game plan, damn don’t they realize teams watch what you did last week! Webster sucks, and the scheme Donatell runs suck. Another implosion may be on the way. The Browns seem tough now, then the Ravens and Saints. Could be another meltdown under boy wonder!

It must be terribly uncomfortable for Mora on the sidelines trying to coach with Blanks hand up his butt pulling the strings. Do you believe that with more than 6 minutes left in a winnable game Mora has to shift his attention away from the game, remove his headset multiple times losing contact with the booth because Blank wants to be seen on TV talking to his coach.

Come on coach grow a pair and tell Prince Arthur to get off the field.

Vick needs to decide whether to run or pass sooner than he does. When he makes up his mind to run, he needs to cradle the ball.

Why do we have Roddy White? How many catches does he have?

Passing drills are needed for the Falcons to succeed with their passing game as the receivers cannot catch the ball on a professional level.

Falcons need to rediscover how to harrass the opposition’s QB.

If I were Mora, I would have a bus for the long drive home after any loss. If we win, we fly.

Dan, you are terribly naive. The man with the gold makes the rules. And, when Blank put his money on the line to give the Birds the free agents Mora said they needed to get to the next level, my guess would be that Blank has every right to be wherever he wants to be to find out what the heck is happening on the field. * I just don’t understand why he would want to be down there close to the smell!*

I’ll admit that the fumble and interception by Vick didn’t help, but anyone notice a difference in the offensive unit? How about Kynan Forney starting where as Tyson Clabo sat on the bench. Anyone else think that was a dumb move by the coaching staff? Plus it seemed that P.J. Alexander was playing out of position.

I have seriously thought that the O-line was the weakness of this offense and after today I believe I’m correct. Pass protection was a bit better than the Giant (which is not saying much) and the run blocking was horrible. As long as the two guards play ineffectively, the rest of the line will, and that leads to an inefficient offense.

This is not to say that the blame is solely on the O-line, but it seems that now McClure is the one who now haves to support the guards (anything wrong with that picture?) our interior is going to collapse like this unless the right guys are playing. Keep starting Tyson and wait until Forney is 95-100% healthy before starting him again.

Two first round wide receivers, two significant free agent receivers in the last two years and they all forget how to catch…………..think Mr Excitements lack of timing, judgment and touch may have something to do with it?

You may have one or maybe even to wideouts come down with a case of the drops, but when all of your wideouts forget how to catch you have to think they are not getting the ball when and where they should.

To Matt: Not sure why Atlanta fans have cracked you up for the last 11 years. It is a reality that we did go to the superbowl during that time. The problem has a lot to do with the coaching. Do you seriously not see talent in Michael Vick? The concerns came with Jim Mora and the west coast “throw the ball to the side instead of down the field” offense. And since you have been around for 11 years you should know this! You should also know that our defense coaches refuse to see the “Zone defense” doesnt work.

To Titsofabear: “Dunn cant run”? He is still in the top 5 in the NFL. You sound ridiculous.

To Had Enuff: “Trade M. Vick”? And then what? HAve another QB , with less potential come in and suffer the same problems with the same weak coaching staff?

To all three of you: See my 5 facts above. Can you dispute?

And To Dan: Watch “The Blitz” on Sportscenter. You will see recivers make difficult catches from not so perfect throws all day, week in and week out. Any ball that touches your hand should be caught. Not to mention may drops today were greaqt passes. The receivers have no passion about high performance. As proved by Michael Jenkins smiling on the sideline during the 4th quarter of a losing game after dropping passes. Vick looked at him as if he were foolish. Of course, people will say Vick wasnt being a team player or something like that.

To be honest, we are 5 and 3 and would have would up that way anyhow since we should have lost with Pittsburg or Cincy, but its pathetic to lose to a one win club this way. Mora had better get a grip on this club and use whatever tactics he needs to to win the games they are expected to win because 9 wins will not get you into the playoffs and 10 may not either, and if the birds don’t make the playoffs this year, there will be some coaching vacancies.

Man did my prediction get blown away. I thought the offense had actually started to play with some consistency. That Vick was going to show that he could pass effectivly several games in a row. I thought the offensive line was going to be efficent for 4 or 5 games in a row. I thought or QB was going to be a part of more scores than he gave up. I thought our defense could hold a 1 and 6 team to less than 30 points. I thought our coaching staff would make adjustments at halftime and not continue with the predictable playcalling that any decent high school coach could read. I thought we would win dammit because on paper we are a more talented team. What I didnt remember however is that I am 55 year old man and have lived in the Atlanta area and been a sports fan all my life. I saw the first Falcons game in 66 and at least 90% of them since. I should have known that my wishful thinking as usual was doomed for another dissapointing sunday afternoon. Well at least 2 seasons what I thought almost came to pass but only 2 out of 40 sure do make it hard to consistently be a die hard fan but I wil be in front of the TV again next week yelling and cheering and sceaming in agony all over again. GO YOU DIRTY BIRDS! But please stop breaking my heart as I am getting too old for this mediocrity. I already have 2 heart stent implants and dont want anymore! So start being consistent or after 40 years I will have to stop pulling for you it could be a matter of life or death! Now folks that is as hard a fan can plead maybe it will help? Time for Ed to go. Martz torched our D the whole game. Vick is gonna be Vick. If he is the face of the franchise, fans just have to accept the fact that he is going to be up and down, inconsistent and take a game off every now and then.

To me, that is unacceptable. I still think Vick nneds to be accoutable for his performance. It should not just be about selling tickets.

If he can’t become more consistent and beat then bottom dwellers, aka Detroit, on a consistent basis, he needs to be traded.

The D is under performing, and that must also be addressed.

We gave up the division lead today by losing to a 1-6 team.

It’s amazing to me how we go from s@#$ to shinola week to week with the fans and analysts. After the two victories vs Carolina Panties and Tampa Succaneers we were going to the SB with the best shotgun option the NFL’s ever seen, then came the N.O. game on MNF and we’re the worst offense ever. We beat Ari, it’s all good again, then we lose to N.Y. and we need to fire everybody. Next we beat the Steelers and Bengals and again we’re SB bound. Now we lose to the 2 week rested from a bye, better than 1-6 advertised Lions now everyone’s hating again. The Bears lost to the Dolphins today (and should have lost to Ari) and I wonder if Bears fans have given up like this. Look folks we are NOT going to win every game. We WILL be okay. We come back and smack the Browns in the mouth and we’ll be 6-3. Things could be worst, ask the Raiders. Hartwell and Abe needs to get back because our secondary isn’t very good without a rush and the run “D” needs weight. Drop passes and turnovers hurt us today, but even the Steelers had problems getting it all together before they made their run at the Lombardi last season, so it’s nowhere near too late to get it all together if we change our defensive philosphy maybe. The question is how? Do we have the personnel to play more man? Getting that rush back aka “getting Abe back” is crucial right now, but if we can hang around ‘til that happens and this offense can get more consistent aka “CATCH THE @#$% BALL!” we can do this. Thing is, that’s ALOT of “if’s”….GO FALCONS!

The Falcon players are becoming much like NBA players, just a bunch of street thugs that talk trash and start fights from the beginning of a game to the end. Deangelo Hall is the worst at it. Though I am a Falcon fan I would love to see someone jack Hall up a little bet just to shut his mouth and his show-boating. What ever happen to “professionalism”? Why can’t the players stop all the crap they do and just play football? Why is it that nearly after every play some player is celebrating just as if they just won the Super Bowl? They get paid to MILLIONS to make good plays. Stop the crap.

By What in the world?

November 5, 2006 09:20 PM | Link to this

Say what you will about vick and the turnovers and all that, but the downfall in this game started with the offensive line just like in every other game. When they protect and block properly, the team wins, when they don’t, they lose plain and simple. Why the hell was Kynan Forney in there with a freakin’ sling on his arm, especially when the line had actually gotten better the last two weeks with him gone. Bad coaching call on Mora’s part. I understand having loyalty to your players, but when they don’t respond to that loyalty by stepping up and making plays, then it’s time to give someone else a shot(see Jason Webster). Vick is a great quarterback, but just like any other quarterback, he will make mistakes when he doesn’t get proper protection. Let Tyson Clabo and P.J. Alexander and Austin King get there reps in from now on. They seemed to be the answer the last couple of weeks. AND DAMMIT FALCONS, STOP BEING YOUR OWN WORST ENEMY WEEK IN AND WEEK OUT!!!!!

I’m a newbie on this blog but folks I called this game monday of last week when I saw the schedule. This is the same ol’ story for the birds every year. They lose games they should win and put up a good effort and possibly win games when you least expect. One thing I can say about the falcons, they are entertaining but it won’t win us a championship. They really stunk up the field today in all phases of the game, only the punter looked good today. This was a total team loss. I can almost promise you there are going to be at least two more games like this one this season and it will lead to us fighting for a wildcard berth or getting eliminated. It’s hard to have fait in a team thats so up and down. I am really disappointed in the coaching and team’s ability to be efficient and consistant.

He didnt look to upset eventhought the team was looking horrible. I just dint get this losers mentality with this organization. You establish a good O line then you change it for this game and they perform terribly. Receiver show promise for two game then drop everything. No receiver can give you anything after the catch beside Crump. Ed Donnetell; howis this guy still in the league and coaching. John Kitna looked liked John ELway ..what the F@#K!! It was not D. Hall’s fault on most of those plays, it was the scheme, that stupid soft zone. When Hall is one on one, his d is pretty tight. It looked like Crocker missed some assignments on passes. How can they go into a soft zone, no blitz when its third and 15? Terrible defensive play calling. Ditch the soft zone already. You’re behind in the game, in the fourth quarter and you go to a soft zone to let them run out the clock. Simply stupid.

Vick haters, have a field day. Those two turnovers absolutely changed the game. Offensive play calling also sucked. It’s one thing to play well, play hard and lose. It’s another to get your butt beat in every aspect of the game. Also no discipline. Everytime they had a drive going, there’s a penalty or dropped pass to kill the drive. A very depressing game from a manic depressive team.

Atl defence gives up over 400 yards to a 1-6 team. I have never seen a secondary where the other team’s receivers were so wide open on 3rd and long plays. They made Kittna look like Joe Montana. Just think what a Brady or A Payton Manning would do. Our receivers cannot get seperation from defenders so Vick ends up having to throw lasers to keep from being intercepted, hence the drops. Vick gave them points but we never could establish the run to set up play action. they physically man handled us. They looked like a much better team than us.

If we do get in the playoff we won’t win unless the defense comes back..Look at new England coaches they know what they are doing.W e can’t keep the same coaches ! We though we had a defense that was killer. They are chickens not Falcons they keep laying eggs!Play off mean nothing if we can’t win it all!Receivers your main job is to catch the football! The routtes are still poor but they need to catch the ball this is a main flaw of this team! But the whole team lost this game. The defense has left town!

I DON’T THINK MV7 NEEDED TO WATCH TONIGHT’S GAME TO LEARN HOW TO THROW 3 INTS. HE COULD HAVE WATCHED UGA EVERY SATURDAY BECAUSE STAFFORD THROWS 3 INTS EVERY GAME.

TURNOVERS HAPPEN FOLKS. Magic Johnson said once that you can’t expect him to lead the league in assists if you don’t also expect him to lead the league in turnovers

did anyone notice how we abandoned the run despite being only 6 points down with a full half to play? almost every first down play in the second half was a pass! use dunn to break down the d and make the passing situations easier. coaches are getting too cute thinking they can just disregard the team’s bread and butter. the first half of the season = falcons rely too much on the run. is the second half = falcons rely too much on the pass? the coaches need to strike a balance.

Someone above talked about the officiating. Most of the bad calls I saw hurt the Lions. I saw more dirty play by the Falcons than I ever want to see from any team. I saw at least one missed face masking, one missed spearing, one missed late hit and a whole host of lesser dirty shots. It looks as if management has totally lost control of the defense.

Falcons played with a “What? Me worry?” attitude today. They should have blown this team out of the stadium…instead they make the lowly 1-6 Lions look like a play-off caliber team. Good teams beat who they should… it’s obvious that Atlanta is far, far away from that description. The remaining schedule has a different outlook after today’s sorry a* performance. No defense and sorry actions on offense. The Saints are going to take this division if the Falcons play the remaining games like they did today! Sorry offense… sorry defense… unbelievable!!! What happened to the Falcons of September 10th?

For all you Vick haters:

For you haters that are comparing Vick to Manning and Brady:

Manning been sacked just 10 times this season. Brady been sacked only 12 times this year. Vick has been sacked twice as much (23).

Vick is playing with two unproven wide receivers, whereas Manning is playing with a Hall of Famer and Pro Bowler with Wayne. Troy Brown is better than Jenkins and White put together.

Oh yeah, somebody tell me the winning percentage for last 60 games before Michael Vick became a Falcons. I betcha it wasn’t 60 percent. You Falcons got spoiled and forgot the days of the blackout Monday Night Football games. Please trade Vick to the Cowboys!

The accolades of th “Vick Era” came to a stand still after a demise of inability, stupidity and ineptness. True colors were never so vibrant than after a laugher agianst the lowly Lions. What next? Which Vick will show up next week, and what verbal excuse will the players use this week? I for one seem to think the only way Vick gets his head on straight is when he’s questioned by the fans and media. how long will “reporters and the media jump ship agian (and the next week make statements like”I was for him, before I was agianst him”-keep sniffing those lines Irving! Somehow I knew Vick and his offensive crew would screw up a good thing. Our secondary looked like the starters on the Georgia Bulldogs backfield! If this is what we’ve been waiting for from Vick, I’m sorry, I’m ready for someone else. Just when the door starts to creep open…SLAM!!! Mr. Blank, I’ve been a season ticket holder for a long, long time. I remember the cold of Fulton County Stadium and the optimism I felt for years. That same creepy feeling has sent chills down my spine today. I’ve cheered for our team, and booed for our team…but I WAS THERE! You made the Lions look like a superbowl continder!! I’m afraid to ask what changes will be made this week. Stay tuned for the soap opera times of the Atlanta Falcons. Same bat time, same bat channel. Or should I just say same ‘ol, same ‘ol!

Yada…yada…yada….y’all are really funny….last week everybody loved the Falcons….Vick was a real QB…..the O-line and D did everthing right….the mysterious dropsies that the receivers had disappeared……

Nothing has changed!!!! Don’t blame the defense…..Kitna is fifth in passing yardage in the NFL!!!!! Only 112yds behind second place P. Manning!!!! Vick got a swelled head again and ran with the ball extended instead of tucked, then passed because he thought he had too……both resulting in turnovers and points for the Lions……that’s basic football……the Falcons were outplayed again!!!

Does anyone wonder why Mora is always writing on the sidelines? Remember that Artie hired him because of all his binders full of notes he brought along to his interview. Guess he knows now that he has been discovered as only a wanna-be coach and he’s getting ready for that next interview. Man he is pathetic! Who made the halftime speech to the team? Gandy! and he’s a first year Falcon although he already knows more than Jimmy Boy … he played with the Saints. What coach in the NFL doesn’t talk to the team, doesn’t make any adjustments, don’t chew people out, won’t take a friend out of the game no matter what he does, and looks downright lost on the sidelines? Okay, so the Falcons had a bad game today, so did the Bears. I doubt very seriously that the fans and columnist of the Bears are jumping off of their bandwagon. I have to believe that the injury to Mathis to start the game may have contributed to the awful play of the team. They could not seem to do much of anything right, a stark contrast from the previous two games.

If there is anyone out there with access to Donatell??? would you please tell him that the soft zone is killing this teams chances of winning consistently enough to make a serious run for the Lombardi trophy. Sometimes 14 points should be enough to win a game because the offense will not put up 30+ points everyweek and when they don’t then the defense should take up the slack.

There has to be changes in this defense for next weeks and the remainder of the season, if not then we ATL fans will probably be forced to turn our attention to the Hawks a bit early this season.

Go Falcons/Hawks!!

I had been saying all week don’t take Detroit lightly or it will be similar to the Green Bay game last year and guess what it happened. Poor effort all around. Vick with 3 turnovers, almost 10 drops, horrible tackling, too many penalties, blown defensive assignments. Its enough blame to go around this week. I just hope they are better prepared against Cleveland. I dont want to see another second half of the season melt down. Once again it was enough blame to go around so please dont come back to the blogs with Trade Vick or move him to halfback. I didn’t see many of these negative post when they were winning.

Am I the only guy out there that’s not panicking???

So what we lost three games. I counted one of those games the last two weeks as losses. I factored in a loss some time real soon.

What I didn’t like, and what I was referring to during the posts before this game is that this game will prove to us what the Falcons really are.

We lost, which means that we don’t have the mental fortitude to play a bad team in the same way that we will play a good team. It’s like if we were playing the Patriots, we will probably win, but if we play the Raiders, we will probably lose. That’s bad coaching.

Also, Vick put the ball in places where the receivers should have made a play, and he had time to throw the ball. The receivers failed to make a play. So we couldn’t make up the fumble by Vick on his run nor that one interception. All in all, though, Vick had a good day. The Lions had a great game plan.

See, the game plan was to eliminate Vick going to the outside. The Lions knew that Vick was going to be accurate, so instead of trying to harrass Vick, they harrassed the receivers. See, the receivers are still ready to be beaten. So they beat them up and made them not want to catch the ball anymore.

Also, they can eliminate big running plays by keeping Vick between the tackles. See, keeping Vick between the tackles hampers his scrambling ability. Plus, more defensive personnel will be between the tackles, which gives them more help against Warrick Dunn. Marinelli can just plain ole beat the Falcons… period. He beat us in Tampa, and he beat us in Detroit.

And Mike Martz is just a great Offensive Coordinator. Man, he just made our DBs look like Swiss Cheese. And it wasn’t bad plays by Jason Webster or D-Hall. None of our DBs got beat badly. It was just Mike Martz finding holes in the defensive scheme. Did you see how Detroit’s WRs will catch the ball right at the place where the CBs will play off and right before the Safeties can come over the top? They just scoped the Falcons well. Also, Jon Kitna will definitely go to the Pro Bowl this year. He is the 5th leader passer in the NFL.

So, if I was the coaches with the Falcons I would take the game tape and watch it to see our holes. Detroit showed the recipe on how to beat the Falcons:

  1. Keep Vick inside the tackles.
  2. Beat up our receivers to make them short-arm passes.
  3. Pass the ball using posts and slants right inside the area between the CBs and Safeties.

If you can do this, you can beat the Falcons in their present state. We plain old got out-coached.

Well it was a great weekend UGAG and the Falcooons lost and GT won. Everyone here wants to blame it all on the receivers all the time. Let’s put the blame where it needs to go on the Defense as a whole and on Mike Vick just in general. The past two weeks his receivers made him look like all world by catching passes thrown behind them and everywhere else on the field. I am so tired of hearing how great he is when in general as a QB he is one of the worst in the league by far. As an athlete he may be the most athletic player in the league without a doubt but he is not the QB that everyone seems to think that he is.

In College and now in the NFL 9 out of 10 times if you force Vick to pass he will find a way to lose the game. Wake up all you MV lovers he is so overrated it is not even funny. Fire the coaches bench the most overrated player in the NFL and put the real QB in Schaub in the game and we will see how many people are saying to the receivers just catch the ball. The blame is not on the receiving cor put the blame where it should be on the man throwing the ball all over the place.

Falcons fans wake up and get out of this Vick is god dream because he is horrible and this team will not go any where as long as he is the man taking the snaps for the Falcons.

Deangelo is Really Monica Kaufman Think about it, they are both soft, and I see Deangelo on TV getting burned by the wide reciever de jeaur. I am going to try my best to get a job as the Browns wide out for next week cause Eeven I will have the game of my life against #21. Did anyone see how many passes underneath the Lions made because our corners are too afraid of bumping? Webster and Deangelo are horrible. The Lions made swiss cheese of them. I don’t care what Knapp says, if you don’t cover your zone, then the best defensive game plan is trash. Is it that tough to play a tighter zone or man coverage?

Wow go we need Ed Hartwell or John Abraham. Kerney is great but lets give him some help and I’m sorry but Brookings is over rated. He gets to the ball but if you want to beat him all you have to do is run right at him——-we need a tougher linbacker

And last, again I’m embarassed by Jenkins and White’s pathetic play. Have you ever seen one of those guys dive for a catch. When I think of them and what a miserable waste of a draft they both were, I can’t but think of the expression they are exchanging with Vick——”Was that pass for me—-cause it hit me in the gut and that hurt?

The Falcons have a lot of problems and the coaching staff is one of them. Until we get an O line and a def baack scheme that half way works, we will continue to lose. I watched the pat/colts game last night. The receivers made that game. Were the two quarterbacks that played in that game much better than Vick? I can say not from where I was sitting. They threw a lot of low/high balls, The recievers went and got them. Each play counts and one person can not do it by himself. I believe we will win at least 10 games.

By H_Charles

November 6, 2006 07:28 AM | Link to this

Johsar, you are delusional. If you think Vick should ever even be mentioned in the same breath as Brday and Manning, you obviously don’t know football. Manning is the most skilled QB ever to play the game, and Brady is right behind him with all those rings to boot.
These guys read defenses perfectly. They throw with near perfect accuracy and always with the right touch. They don’t fumble the ball, and rarely make mistakes. While the receivers certainly help Manning, it really doesn’t matter who these guys throw to. Manning single handedly made the careers of guys like Brandon Stokely, Marcus Pollard, and now Reggie Wayne — not exactly Jerry Rice are these guys. Brady never has great receivers, and still has his team playing for Super Bowls. If you want to be a Vick apologist, fine. Just don’t go off the deep end and compare him to some of the best of all time.

When is the coaching staff going to learn how to adjust during a game. I have never seen such awful coaching. Yeah, the secondary is bad, but when the zone defense is getting shredded, something has to change. Also, the offense looked good the last two weeks, so of course the coaching staff calls the same plays that were called the previous weeks. And, of course the Lion’s were ready for it and no adjustments were made from the Falcon’s staff. I predicted several weeks ago the Falcons will go 9-7 and now it looks more like maybe 8-8. Until this team has better coaching and can learn to beat lesser teams, they will never be a super bowl contender. This is about the point in time last year when everything went down hill.

Hey Yall:

Let me start off by saying”I do not like Donatells coaching strategies on defense. That zone thing has got to change. Good quarterbacks, that we will see in the playoffs, if we make it, will tear us apart. In fact, when in Greenbay didn’t our own Michael Vick eat this zone scheme up when we played them in the playoff? It doesn’t work. You leave too many open areas for a quaterback to throw. And any of the quarterbacks in the NFL today can throw a rocket, timed pass in those gaps that this zone defense exposes itself to. The bad part is this coach never makes any changes to the zone coverage. I never see it rotate and/or diquise itself to fool quartebacks. We cannot depend on our linemen and line backers to make plays every pass play. Sometimes the defensivebacks have to make plays by themselves. They get drafted to do this SH-T. If Deangelo Hall is clamouring for the coach to let him go man-up on a receiver because he believe he has the skills to do it. Then the other defensive backs should feel just as confident. The coaches appear to not have faith in the personnel they have to be aggressive in the defensive secondary. Something creative and agrressive must be done to get our secondary ready for the stretch run to the playof anf after. Ed Donatell is not the answer. We know we (The FALCONS) beat this type of zone thing before with Dan Reeves. Change it Mora!!!!!

On the Offensive end, Hey receivers, “Catch the DA_N ball. We are not even playing in cold and/or rainy weather and you still can’t catch the ball. If this is happening now I am afraid of how you will be when we go to those cold, rainy weather stadiums in the winter. Get Ready!!!! The palycalling on the otherhand should be more creative. I see no trick plays. I see limited running plays. It appears Warrick Dunn is not blasting through the holes as he should. It looks like he is tipping though the holes at times. Norwood on the otherhand, needs to get more touches. He looks more subsceptable to pop a long run than Dunn, at the moment. And, Mike, you are throwing great!! I know it is a judgement part on you to run or not, but yesterday, you could have run all over the Lions. Be careful running all the time though. Pick you spots. And when you do make sure you try to take it to the bank (Touchdown). Also Tell your offensive coordinator to get a little more inventive in designing plays. Also our offensive line need to start playing a little nasty on their side of the ball. Who the hell cares if the other teams defense is getting tick off because you are coming after them. That our trademark in our running game. This is football man. Keep it up and more some!!! Do you think they will stop aganst us if it were successful?? Heck no!!! Keep it up. No apologies given! Your coaches should make sure you keep it up until the league says stop. What you are doing is legal. Lets design some plays to do it even more. SSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! This is a secret yall. Don’t tellnobody this is between us Falcon fans.

Hey Bird Babe,

Really changed your tune from last week…. Even the TV coverage has reached a new high in glorifying Vick instead of the Falcons, but I guess they are right when they said: Welcome to “THE MIKE VICK SHOW.” I said it before, watching the Falcons is like watching the ultimate reality show, you never know what surprise the next show will bring. Win or no win, which Vick will we see???? Vick the passer or Vick the running back that THROWS at his receivers.

Where were those that are critical of our receivers the LAST TWO GAMES???? These are the same guys. No matter what sport you are playing, Football, Basketball, or Baseball for that matter, if the ball isn’t passed/thrown correctly, it won’t be caught. Most of you probably never played a sport in an organized league. So you have no idea. Vick’s bullets get to his man, but gives little time to react. Do baseball players stand there and wait to be hit in the face???? If a PASS isn’t on the money with the right “TOUCH” can a basketball player make the big play????

Stop blaming the receivers.

Brady has a lousy game yesterday with FOUR interceptions. In an interview, he apologized for letting the team down. He admitted he is a part of a TEAM and didn’t do his part. To dropped a pass that cost Dallas it’s game……

I taped the Falcons game and replayed all the important parts. The offense screwed up. The defense played well….stopping the Lions at their 2, and at their 1. The Lions had to settle for field goals. Then in the third, they forced an interception on the Falcons 26……Stopped them again in the fourth at the Falcons 18…….The lions scored touchdowns off the two Vick turnovers and a great 60 yard pass play by Kitna….like I said, the Lions out played and out coached the Falcons… give credit where credit is due. The Lions were a better TEAM!!!!!

Jimmy Mora Jr. makes his dad look like a genius compared to him!

Look we lost get over it, the Offense fell into a funk and the Defense could not return the favor from the last couple of weeks, it happens. The Bears lost to Miami who has no offense, does that mean their done for the season. We’re 5-3 with a chance to go 6-3 next week…..The last time we go it handed to us, ala the Giants, we responded with 2 big wins(how soon we forget). Vick had a bad day, the receivers struggled, the defensive play calling(Cover 2 & 3 w/no rush) sucked and the poor tackling done us in …..A total team effort or lack there of. We’re still a playoff team and we’ll bounce back. Eye on the Prize……Be a true fan, and have some confidence….dam!

I’m not real concerned with the offense. It’s not good or consistent and won’t be, I’m sure we wil always get spurts, but you can’t count on them. When we got to the NFC Championship game we almost had a championship defense, It was very good not great. What happened? the last two years we have been awful, the only person we lost off that defense was Matt Stewart and Ed jasper, and talentwise i think we can all agree that those two have been replaced. My point is this Falcons team doesn’t get better, the receivers are just as good as when they come inot the league, Vick has been the exact same for three years, the only player in my eyes to get better Is d.hall but u can only guarantee he will do something stupid every game. Take yesterday he make a great play against Williams , next two plays misses a tackle and then gets a stupid penalty. This team lacks discipline, and does not get better, I blame these two things On Jim Mora there is no one else to look at Atlanta Fans so stop trying. If the bus crashes you blame the driver, Problem is im not sure Mora can see over the wheel.

Look people, on any given Sunday the best of teams can loose to the worst of teams.

Stop your whinning, so what, they lost to Detroit. It’s not the end of the world or the season. The Falcons were their own worst enemy. Detroit didn’t bet us we beat ourselves. Two turnovers lead to two touchdowns which was the difference in the game. I am a lifelong die hard Falcons fan and will always be. Let this game be a learning experience for you guys. Oh and by the way, Arthur Blank can stand of the field any time he wants. He has invested his money and his time in this club. That gives he the right.

Arthur Blank built a multi-billion dollar business from scratch… any of yall got that on your resume? He’ll make the changes needed to put a winning product on the field.

Remember this org. is overcoming nearly 40 years of poor ownership and foolish management… it takes time to right a ship.

I too question some of our personel but you gotta believe that McKay, Mora and Blank know a bit more about this team than we do.

Quit being sh.tty fans and enjoy the fact we’re 5-3…. at least we’re not in Tampa’s position.

Here go all these RACIST A$$ fans talking about how stupid Mike Vick is and move him to receiver and running back and trade him while he still has value and bull$hit. I even read that the 9 drop passes wasn’t the receivers fault, It was Mike Vick’s fault for throwing the ball too hard. If that aint no racist $hit to say then I don’t know what is. Tom Brady threw 4 ints last night and no body on the patriots blog blamed Tom Brady because he is the white golden boy, Vick never threw four ints in a game. Watch all the white people say don’t compare Vick to Brady because he is better and he is white, just like our women. The Bears lost and I was on their blog and shockingly I didn’t read anybody say anything about White Rex Grossman getting benched for Bob Griese. Crump drops 2 passes, Roddy drops 1, Jenkins drop 3 because he soft and scared to take the hit, and Ashley what happened he drops 3 wide open passes. I also see why the coaches do not want to blitz and play zone because THE SAFETIES CANNOT COVER THE TIGHT END MAN TO MAN. Some guy for the Lions has 6 catches against us in the middle of the field wide open with the safety trailing, great and we have to play Cleveland next week who has Kellen Winslow. The defense sucks plain and simple, we can’t play zone defense because we don’t have a pass rush, and when we blitz against a team who’s O-Line can pick up the blitz the tight end is going to torch us because our safeties can’t cover man to man. Unless the offense averages 35 plus points a game the rest of the way to complement the bad defense that we have, it going to be a long season for the home team. HOLLA! GO FALCONS! SUPER BOWL HERE WE COME!

I normally do not comment on the Falcons, as baseball is my passion in life.

However, after watching the game on Sunday, you must come to the followinf conclusions:

  • The Detroit Lions are NOT as bad as their (now) 2-6 record indicate. If they can learn to win, they will be a force in their division next year.

  • The Falcons are not as GOOD as we thought they were. Dropped passes, leaky defense, failure to execute, lack of focus. It was obvious from the first snap that the Falcons’ head was NOT in the game. They had read the press clippings and thought the Lions were going to implode and hand them the game. It did not turn out that way. That said, the blame for losing this game must go to …

  • Jim Mora. Anyone who watches the NFL knows that the difference the best and the worst team is NOT that great. The head coach MUST keep his team focused and on mission when they prepare for ANY game. It is obvious that Mora has not yet learned that simple fact of life.

Right now, it is very much up in the air as to whether the Falcons will make the playoffs. The Saints will NOT collapse as predicted, and the Panthers are still lurking at 4-4, waiting for the Falcons to collapse so they can sneak into the playoffs.

This week had better be one of intense work and preparation, with (hopefully) a blowout win against Cleveland on November 12th. Otherwise, Mora should be shown the door. He has the players! The question is, does he have what it takes to be a head coach in the NFL?? The answer is very much in doubt!

Just my humble opinion!

Maybe the Falcons need a motivational speaker instead of MORA “THE SCRIBBLER.”

Helloo Bobbo not concerned about the offense??? You fit right in with the VICK strategy. Here are quotes from a Vick interview with Steve Wyche when the Falcons were 3-1 on 10/3/06:

“People have to understand, we run the football. We’re going to make plays in the passing game. One game we may throw for 200, 300 yards and the receivers are going to have big games. The next two or three, it may be the running backs. As long as everybody does their jobs and we’re winning football games, it doesn’t matter to anybody around here how we win.

“We’ve got a great team and I appreciate, from the bottom of my heart, all the guys in that locker room. There are no ‘I’ guys in there. Guys have three or four catches and I’m sure they’re not content with that, but they know at some point they’re going to have their chance to make some plays. We don’t have a run-and-shoot-type offense. Even though I can do it, we don’t need to.”

Let me tell you, when the defense sees how their QB gives the ball away with a carry like Vick did……it’s like a stab in the gut!!!! Vick needs to be a QB and leave the running to the backs!!!! He doesn’t even know how or care to PROTECT the ball!!!!! He can pass…..learn to use that running ability to scramble!!! Don’t blame the defense!!!!!!!!!! Williams had 6 catches for 138 yards…his fourth 130+ game…. that’s a great combo of QB and receiver… Furrey had 4 for 72 yards….. williams is 3rd in the league Furrey is 19th….not a Falcon in the top thirty!!!! But our QB is 17th in rushing yards!!! AHHHHH but 23rd in passing yardage, so sad too bad!!! Thank you Falcons coaching staff for great play making!!!!

Once again Falocn fans blame the wrong people. You can only coach as good as your team is..and they stink. I see that a falcon got his neck hurt—maybe they need to learn not to use their head when they tackle. They did it on Ben when they played the Steelers and now they tried it on the Lions but instead of carrying off a lion they carried off a falcon player. I do not wish to see anyone get hurt but you get what you deserve when you play dirty. I do not think Vick is even a good quarterback but it is hard to win when you do not have anyone that can catch. Crumbler you are nothing but a showboating moron. When you do score a first down or touchdown —be a man and go about your business and go back to the bench or huddle—not the scrap off. Vick—-if you ever want to become a great quarterback—which you probably won’t—you need to learn to be a team player and stop trying to showboat. Your passing % sucks. If the Falcons want to make it to the playoff, they need to learn to play as a team and stop being morons…..

Atlanta, feel the slow burn of a loss to what you call a bad team, Detroit!

We know you would not give us credit for having beaten you as an improved team, but that is okay. We will have to claw and fight for respect from others by garnering successive wins. We know that.

We in Detroit got real about our lot in American life. No one cares whether or not the Detroit automakers survive or not. It matters not whether the rest of you “Americans” believe it self-induced. It matters not that you would just assume see the home “auto” team lose and disappear. We will have to fight and claw our way back alone.

For Detroit, it’s a flat-out, “Us vs. Them” situation, in every case. In football, economic life and otherwise.

We beat you by strict adherence to a humble workman-like approach and unwavering concentration on the fundamentals. This is our mantra, and from it we will either live or die.

I am trying to be calm & rational about it but I just get NUTS when they lose & lose so badly to an inferior team. I thought we were beyond that but apparently not. I think Mora knew this could happen & tried to prevent it but he does not play the game & I blame the players who are pros, for not motivating themselves. Also, what idiot made the decision to start Forney wearing that ridiculous contraption on his shoulder? Why on earth would you mess with the success they’ve had the last 2 weeks…Forney was not ready to go, no matter what he said & I heard PJ Alexander was inactive for the game, why???? Forney couldn’t come back after halftime, big surprise, so we had to plug in some schlub named King?? That was huge. It all starts & ends with the o-line. Vick made 2 really bad mistakes but he was again, running for his life out there & the Detroit d-line was missing FOUR starters! Please put the line back the way it was, those 2 subs, Clabo & Alexander played great. I was worried about Finn getting his job back next year but now it’s obvious, he will have no problem since our other receivers, even Alge lately are so daggone inconsistent! Finn would’ve caught those 3rd downs & kept the drives alive, also he would’ve caught a fade in the endzone, how come we never run that play with Jenkins? I love Pat Kerney & he plays his heart out every week but he’s can’t do it when he’s double/triple teamed every play! What a colossal bust Abraham & Hartwell have been. Is Travis Hall available? What about Brady Smith? We need help, no pass rush whatsoever, Kitna wasn’t touched at all. The reason we run Zone all the time is b/c the coaches know we can’t man up with the other team, not with J-Web but teams just pick apart our zones every single week! I guess Jimmy Williams must be awful which is depressing, cause otherwise he’d be in there. Our safeties are looking as bad a last year lately, Crocker seems overrated. Terrible tackling, wrap them up, people!! Poor game in every phase, a group loss for sure. I hope either Knapp and/or Donatell gets fired in the offseason. The only area that didn’t suck was special teams & Joe D. is a great coach!! I know Mora is sick about this but he needs to open up a big can of whup a* on these guys, pros or not. Let’s get it together Birds, now!!

It goes without saying, this was a VERY disappointing loss! Poor coaching decisions and execution resulted in this pathetic performance yesterday. Benching Clabo and P.J. was an absurb decision. You find a formula that works you stick with it. Protect Vick and your chances of winning increase significantly. Our corners were terrible. We allowed too many 3rd and long conversions thanks the BS zone defense. The corners looked lost out there. Catching the damn ball was more the exception then the rule. This is one game, true enough but if the Falcons are going to be a playoff/SB contending team in this league they have to be consistent week in and week out. As I said last week and many others have said, on any given Sunday any team in the NFL will bust yo’ a$$. Shake this one off, address the offensive line and the corners.

Jean,

What “inferior team????????” The Lions roared and the Falcond folded!!!!!

Joe from Detroit,

You are so right. I’m a former Detroiter. Started with Michigan Bell and was an AT&T employee for 25 years…… the automakers are great people/fans, hard workers!!!! I still have tons of friends/relatives up there (came to Atlanta in 1992 because of AT&T closing Michigan offices.) Fell in love with the Braves and Falcons…it has been frustrating, they both tease greatness, but I still love them. It was good to see the Lions roar again.

Big business doesn’t care about us hard workers, the big shots take their money and run. I left AT&T (now at&t) when they offered 12,000 (low level management) a package deal. I hear the auto makers are really screwing both management and laborers. My heart goes out to those in Michigan. The economy is goig to suffer big time. God Bless you and yours.

Sure our defense sucks, but their job is made all the more impossible by a QB that hands the ball to the other team twice in the first half. Vick: learn to carry the ball correctly - you’re paid enough freakin’ money to play better than this.

It starts and ends with Vick - if he has a bad game the rest of the team might as well pack it in. Our defense had packed it in at halftime.

I have said it before, Jim Mora Jr is nobody’s head coach. The secondary is the worst in football. The defensive coach should have been fired last year. Moro did not have this team mentally ready to play. Blank should have fired him after the game yesterday. You let a 1 and 6 team beat you. Start looking for a coach now with a proven defensive background.

An unacceptable loss. No way does a playoff team loose in this fashion. Defensively we are a push-over. Offensively we are inconsistent. The coaching staff seems dumbfounded most of the time. We never make adjustments from quarter to quarter. I don’t know if we can improve. Yeah maybe we will make the play-off but I don’t see this team going very far. C’mon Mike take care of the ball. I’m not ragging on you about the interceptions, they happen. But the fumble was simply being careless with the ball. He has to take responsibility for his bad habit of fumbling. We still had a chance offensively to get back in the game but we just couldn’t catch the ball. I counted easily 7 very catchable balls that were simply dropped. Even Alge dropped two more balls. Defensively I don’t know what to say about this team but they are horrible. We can’t stop the run, we can’t stop the pass. We do nothing well. This is looking like a mediocre year again for the falcons. But me being the Eternal Optimist that I am I will continue to support and just pray that we will catch some breaks during the second half of the season.

A bunch of you are some serious fair weather fans…I tell ya, its like alot of you are waiting on the lost so you could find a way to attack VICK of all people who bails us the hell out of games we are not suppose to win???? You are some of the remedial dam fans I have ever encountered. My thing is: if you are a smart blogger you (A) watch the game, then (B) respond to what actually happen. Not read the dam headlines and jump on as if you’ve watched!! Dumb A* Fans You really want to know what caused a loss like this?? Coaching! Planning!! Preparation!!! The defense sucked, yes but its been sucking for 4 to 5 weeks now. Don’t think that cause we lost something signifigant happen to us cost it, its the same dam team you praised when they won!! * Dumb a* fans* The recievers, we don’t have a go to reciever, we have a go to tight end that even he was dropping passes. So you cannot blame Vick when he throws a pass, this is a team sport it takes a dedicated catcher to make it happen!!! I know because I myself was a reciever didn’t have the best quarterback but its not up to the quarterback to catch, If Matt Shaub played it would have been the same dam result for all you Shaub callers!! Dumb A* Fans Last but not least Our Offense Coordinator didn’t adjust and notice that the Lions were weak on the run and stuck to it, you can’t beat every team with the same philosophy it takes game time adjustments to beat everyteam. Our DF didn’t do a good job either Ed Donatell is garbage as bad as JWebb ol getting TRUCK a*. He’s as soft as a Charmine roll.

Amongst all we need to be better fans and don’t blame #7 for doing his job, no one’s perfect. I look around the league and MV played better than some other QB’s in the league that lost, basically no one’s perfect be even in an imperfect environment we have a DAM GOOD QB we just need an accompany body to back up his skills, like some Dam good recievers. We need a Big time reciever this cannot wait any longer. We also need a secondary, DHall your good but shut the hell up and play!! LMilloy your still a beast in my eyes!! We just need a real defensive secondary not a fake one, these are things you BLOGGERS should talk about instead of taking cheap shots at VICK because if you met him you would still want his ordergraph. But you hide behind dumb a* words and whats funny is we couldn’t find one person for the last two weeks but now here they are!!!!! Dumb A* Fans!!!

Besides the division leaders, no one else is distinguishing themselves from the pack. The wildcard is still the Falcon’s to lose. While I’m disappointed in the loss, it’s not the end of the world. Detroit has actually been very good offensively all year so it didn’t surprise me that they scored a lot of points. What was surprising was the way the offense played. I don’t care if Manning or Brady was the QB yesterday, if you drop that many passes it’s hard to score points.

Welcome the NFL Ladies and Gentlemen. This is why teams have to bring it every single Sunday. Ask the Bears or Vikings if they did the same thing, underestimating their opponent. They did, and were soundly beatan as well as the Falcons.

The sad part was this didn’t surprise me , a 1-6 team with a bye week playing motivated at home, everyone should’ve figured they were going to bring their A game. I expected it, and I also expected Atlanta to struggle when they fell behind early. However, it’s impossible to gain any momentum when your receivers are consistently dropping passes and stalling the offense. Atlanta did have to blitz more and Detroit’s receivers actually caught the ball, which was the big difference in the game.

Every great QB has their bad games, so don’t dare put this on Vick. I noticed throghout the league today many games were lost due to teams not playing up to their talent level. I expect Atlanta to right the ship next week against Cleveland.

Hey Joe from Detroit, Humble workman like approach? Is that the reason that the junk you guys call automobiles are the worst rated vehicles in Consumer Reports as well as J.D. Powers surveys for the last 30 years? First of all the members of the Lions roster are not from Detroit. Second, your team has only won 2 games this year which does not give you the right to go on another citys blog and start flapping your lips however we true southerners realize that is just the way ill mannerd yankees are. If this statement has offended you then I suggest you file a grievance with your union boss which is the reason you guys build that S__T up there. The unions are why the Japanese have taken over the auto manufacturing business. The union keeps you employed even though you do a horrible job and you lazy folks know it and abuse it! Your football team sucks and they just got lucky Sunday the reason the Falcons lost was thier own stupid mistakes not the Lions superior play! I have been in the automobile business since 1974 and wouldnt drive a GM product if you gave me one. I drive a Nissan pickup made in Franklin Tn. and my wife drives a Honda made in Marysville Ohio so I buy American made autos but not union made autos and my vehicles are high quality and will make it 3 to 4000000 miles. A union vehicle will seldom do that. That said GET OFF OUR BLOG!

Most of us who know the history of the league had a feelin’ on this game. Several others took one up the ole wazzoo Sunday. This is what Mr. Rozelle wanted to see and he got his wish. He must be laughing where ever he is today after what happened yesterday. Watching the Bears take one from the Dolphins must of reminded him of when Ditka took his thugs into Joe Robbie and got whacked By Dan Marino and his receivers on a hot Monday night in Dec. of 1985. The Falcons went into that game yesterday a marked team. Frank Caliendo called it. He knew what was going to happen. We got ambushed. We weren’t prepared mentally for this game. When we were climbing the ladder we fell off. Dropped passes, stupid penalties and injuries that just took the wind out of us. The last play of the game summed it up. An interception in the end zone. It doesn’t get any better next week either when you look at it. Another team trying to get good comes in here after a loss and wanting to put up something to keep for the season. Knocking off Mike Vick in the Georgia Dome would fit well in their highlight film for next year. What’s worse is we’re so beat up that we might as well go for broke. And we know what that is…..Take the game Mike Vick. We know you got the arm but when it goes bad take it over. If you get hurt we got your back. It’s your team so just make it happen.

Tammy your an idiot!! Stick to the kitchen and laundry room if all your sport comment is about race and not the game. Vick was outplayed, our offensive line was out-hustled, our defense gave us our only oppertunities to win (except for our once agian torched secondary). Our coaching staff…need I say more. Every team has that game that makes the other team look like super-bowl contenders. It just so happens we’ve had two laughers. This will show if the Falcons, as a team, have what it takes to rebound, make adjustments and grow as a team. Vick either lead by example, or step aside and let others have their oppertunity. How many 1st round quarterbacks actually made it to a superbowl, let alone won one. This is a team sport and the only team player I’ve seen is Brooking. He must feel like a rag doll for all the seasons he’s had to play other key positions because of others injuries. If the rest of the team can suck it up and take notes maybe they can turn it around. Then agian, maybe not.

Well, the coaches don’t seem to have a clue. There again, the players don’t tackle, defend, block, pass protect, catch, and do all those other things that are important in this game. Oh yes, running your mouth and then getting nailed for obvious late hits on a downed quarterback doesn’t help much either.

Not only was this game reminiscent of last year’s Green Bay debacle, Coach Mora chatting with Mr. Blank was reminiscent of his sideline use of the cell phone a while back. A team that can eek out a win against Pittsburgh can get absolutely slaughtered by Detriot?

I wonder how long Mr. Blank will continue to waste his money on continued sub-par performances? I also wonder why I keep buying season tickets to witness this travesty?

You saw again yesterday why Vick for all his obvious talents will never be one of the leagues best. His two early turnovers led to touchdowns which fired up a bad Detroit team. Vick will always be brutally inconsitent and turn the ball over way too much, you combine that with a bad defense with huge holes in the secondary and this team is an 8-8 or 9-7, borderline team for the playoffs. Vick is the new Kordell Stewart.

This lost was not Vick’s fault. We had no blocking, no defense or special teams. Why did we put Forney in the game when we had Clabo on the sideline. Clabo is twice as good as Forney. We have already won the 5 games that I expected us to win. We can’t ever seem to get this team past that.

Despite their flashes of brillance as a contender the Falcons continue to re-establish their “Identity” as a perinneal 500 team and will never be one of the elite in the NFL…there’s such a lack of fire from the coaching staff on down to many of these big-mouth players who lack the intelligence to play any semblane of a clean game. Ask any of the other teams in the NFL…the Falcons are a dirty team. Thanks but no thanks from a former fan. I’ll find another team who isn’t so interested in showing their butt off the field and “brings-it” clean on Sunday. JD

Vick had a bad game yesterday. The problem is so did the rest of the team. We dropped too many passes. We did not block well. We did not tackle well, and we certainly did not defend the pass or run well. Our coaching staff seemed lifeless and made no adjustments throughout the game. The int’s I’m not so mad about the the fumble was careless. It shouldn’t of happened. Vick it’s time for you to correct that problem because it has happened more than once. I totally disagree with CRS, Vick is definetely in my top 5. After Peyton and TBrady I don’t know of a QB I would rather have. Our coaching staff has simply been unable to make anyone on our team better. We just seem totally unorganized and ineffective. But hey, I’m the Eternal Optimist, I believe that we will get better.

I’m tired of the media and you ignorant bandwagon jumpers dogging MV7 everytime he makes a mistate. I suppose that Peyton (I can’t win the big one) Manning, Carson (one year wonder) Palmer, and other white QB’s don’t make mistakes. Stop living in the past becuase the game changes with the times. A QB that isn’t mobile will soon be a thing of the past, and what will they say then? Let Vick be Vick and be glad that you have a talent like that on your team. Come on, you think Grossman is not catching flack? Brady has super bowl rings which gives him some cushion. Vick has how many rings? Zero. Until that changes, I think all criticism of him is fair game. He makes a hell of a lot of money to be mediocre and turn the ball over twice a game.

I would take Eli, Peyton, Brady, Mcnabb, Carson, Rothleisberger, Leftwich and Matt Leinert all over Vick. And in terms on managing a game, there are a lot of guys equal to or better than Vick. See Hasselback, Jake in Carolina, Brees, Rivers, McNair. Farve and Cullpepper are at the tail end and that is the only reason I would not have them higher than Vick. That puts Vick in about the middle of the pack which is where he belongs. I am not saying the guy is not a freak of nature and fun to watch but he is a middle of the pack quarterback.

Toshie,

You said “This lost was not Vick’s fault. We had no blocking.” Which game did you watch???? Vick had so much time he could throw anywhere. He was sacked once when he was in shotgun and tried to run (he fumbled because he held the ball in one out stretched hand.) The Lions scored a TD in two plays. Hey maybe you had too much to drink and were Sloshie instead of Toshie???

Hey DP, Who said Vick has to be perfect….just want him to play like a $100M QB. Is that asking too much???? Go check the weather it is sunny here.

Hey SICEM,

Last time I checked this is AMERICA, Freedom of Speech is allowed here. Second, If you have been in the auto business since 1974, what do you do??? The workers that put together the autos do not design them. In case you have not noticed, American Industry only wants to make money. It cares little about quality in most cases and products and cares less about most customer service issues. The manufacturing is designed for one thing…THROW AWAY, THEN BUY A NEW ONE. HAVE YOU NOT NOTICED THAT MAJOR ITEMS LIKE WASHERS, DRYERS, STOVES AND REFRIGERATORS ARE BUILT LESS DURABLE THAN THEY WERE FORTY YEARS AGO?? SURE THEY GOT MORE GADGETS, BUT BREAKDOWN MORE OFTEN. Cars are built the same way. The csrs built in TN and OH are built using motors and transmissions made oversea. LOOK AT THE STICKER ON THE VEHICLES, THEY TELL YOU WHERE THE PARTS COME FROM AND THAT THEY ARE ASSEMBLED IN THE GOOD OLE’ USA. The Lions outplayed the Falcons in every area, face it, accept it, and pray THE TEAM gets over it.

Knowitall,

Receivers fault eh? Read my blog at 9:17am then we can talk, OK?

Edgar,

You said: “The Falcons went into that game yesterday a marked team. Frank Caliendo called it. He knew what was going to happen. We got ambushed.” Do you know how stupid that sounds??? Next time record the game and watch it over and over until you SEE THE TRUTH. AMEN

Hey EO, What kind of losses are acceptable???

Start at the top and fire McKay, then Mora Jr. and staff! Then restaff the scouting team. Then get rid of some players! Trade Vick in the beginning of offseason! Get a true winner at headcoach and staff full of winners! Then rebuild during the summer! But somebody the fans love, like Brookings, on public display. Cut him during preseason to let the players know it’s a new era! If they dont perform, they’ll follow Brookings out the door!

Hey CRS, what are you basing all this on. I mean Mcnabb maybe, he has led his team to a NFC Championship and a Superbowl. Rothleisberger rode the coat tails of a premier defense and a veteran offense. His super bowl year he avg less than 22 pass attempts a gain. They were a running team. Jake Delohmme should not even be in the conversation. Carson would be my 4th pick. I like Brees but he’s more like my 7th or 8th pick. Favre was great but that was years ago. Rivers will be good one day but heh he has the best running back in the league, the best tight end in the league, and probably the 2nd best defense in the league. Oh yeah, how dare you mention Leinart. Isn’t he like 0 and 4 or whatever since his first start, I think eventually he’ll be ok, but better than Vick right now, you must be insane bro. Oh yeah I forgot about Eli, not impressed to this point. He’s definetely no PMannning. Oh yeah you mentioned Leftwich, yeah he’s a soldier but he’s at too much of a disadvantage. Slow release, slow feet, hell he doesn’t even start. Man Vick does need to make some improvements and take better care of the ball but I’ll take him any day. The Falcons have done much better with him that without. Now that defense is the real problem. We bailed them out for two games and we were just not able to repeat that effort.

Whoa, I find it almost humorous reading some of these “chicken little” posts predicting the collapse of the Falcons’ season.

As a lifelong D-town Kitties (aka Lions) fan, I must protest that the Falcons didn’t play so poorly as much as they were beaten by a team with a lot of intangibles coming into their favor.

First, in spite of still not having 3 D-line starters in the game, the Lions came off of a bye week with 6 starters / main contributors coming back from injuries.

Secondly, (and I admit it may sound delusional stating this) the Lions had to be one of the best 1-6 teams in recent NFL memory. The offense has put up decent numbers pretty much all year and, of their 6 losses, the games weren’t decided until the end in 5 of those games, it was always something quirky or a missed play that created a loss this season (a recurring theme in the Motor City). Their 1-6 record belies their competitiveness.

Finally, with two weeks to prepare for the Falcons, a chance to be rested and the opportunity to further learn new offensive and defensive schemes just introduced this year, the Lions had the advantage of near singular focus and additional practice time.

Listen up Falcon’s fans. Your team is good. If the Falcons were to play the Lions 16 games this year, they probably would win at least 11 games. It just so happens that this week was one of those weeks were they were simply outplayed by a team with a lot of talent, albeit an inexperienced group that just may now be finding their identity. There will be more teams this year that will fall victim to the Lions.

At the end of the day, the Falcons are a sound, solid and pretty impressive football team. Mike Vick adds a dimension every other team in this league would relish and is afraid of. It’s just on this day, the Detroit Lions came better prepared and executed their game plan better than it has all season. As they say, “On any given Sunday”.

Falcons’ fans, I really don’t think you have much to worry about by way of a second half collapse this season. There’s simply too much talent and experience on your team to let that happen. Good luck for the balance of the year.

Go Lions!

Hey Mark, why question the guys leadership. And what makes you say that he is hot-dogging. I don’t see that. Look at his remarks after each game. He takes the blame for all his mistakes and even covers for the receivers. So far he has led us to a 5-3 record, if the season were to stop now we would be in the playoffs. I’m a firm believer in the fact that you are what your record says you are and right now we are a 5-3 team. Now the question is, do we get better or do we repeat last yrs downfall. I think we will get better. But honestly I don’t think that we have the tools defensively to be dominate and that’s just the simple facts. Yeah Vick has to be more disciplined when running with the ball. But to say the guys not a leader and that Shaub should start seems like your not being realistic. Yeah I like Shaub as a backup but honestly what makes you think that he will be any better or even close to the player that Vick is. Remember there is not alot of QB’s that are proven winners in this league and Mike is one of the proven winners. My belief is this. How do our oponents feel about Vick. I’ll tell you they dred facing him. It’s been said time and time again. There are probably at least 25 franchises that would trade their starter heads up for Vick in a heartbeat, and you know I’m right. I understand everyones frustration. I wanted to throw my TV out the window yesterday. But that’s the NFL, Any given Sunday and you can take a L. Heres hoping that we will make improvements. Halfway through the season and we’re 5-3. We have to step up against Cleveland who took San Diego to the limit this weekend. Then theres the Ravens, that game will be a gut-check game for the Falcons. Let’s all be patient and let things evolve. Always Optimistic but loosing patience fast!!!!!!!

There’s a reason why Green Bay got rid of Donatell. That soft zone cost Green Bay and now it will cost the Birds. Also, if the recievers catch those 10 drop passes, WE HAVE A DIFFERENT BALL GAME. Those recievers must have been reading/watching to much of there own clips.
The birds will never make it to the playoffs playing defense like they have in the last 3 ball games.

Now we’re back to must wins again. A must win with Cleveland, and a must win in Baltimore. Falcons, don’t feel bad about losing to a good team like Detroit. How do you think the Lions feel with a 2-6 record. They won’t make the playoffs but we will. That’s all that matters. The Lions will spoil a lot of hope for teams in this second half. It ain’t over til its over.

Eternal Optimist… I am NOT a Vick basher. He has a lot of talent but the Falcons need a strong leader. One in which the Offensive line will fight for and give him time to throw the ball. Take for example Peyton Manning. He is a real leader. He is the catalyst that has made that team strong. Is he the strongest QB… Of course not; however,a strong leader can take avg players and achieve greatness.

That is what the Falcons need!

Flashback? Hopefully this isn’t the wheels coming off like they did last year against Green Bay.

#1 When you’re on the road, you cannot turnover the ball and expect to win.

I love Vick but his fumble and interception directly led to 14 points by the Lions. I am not saying get rid of him or bench him, especially after the previous two games. And I especially liked his effort from that point forward. Coaches have to work extra hard to keep his focus on error free ball handling.

#2 Everyone wants to pile on the Defense but 14 of those points were due offensive turnovers.

The defense gave up 16 points, not too shabby. Heck we were only down by 3 at the half and down by 6 midway through the third when the defense got the INT deep Still time to overcome and win the game but can’t do that without the Offense generating points. Yes, Jason Webster needs help, and yes, De Angelo had a lapse out there and gave up the 6, but the Offense let us down today folks.

3 The drops by Jenkins (3) Crumpler (2)and Lelie (1) really hurt. Hard to sustain drives when recivers drop the ball and these were mostly catchable balls.

What does this equal? All of these things add up to Coaching. Got to have your players ready to play and not allow these mental breakdowns. Right now the Falcons may make the playoffs but without the focus and fire of good coaching. I am not saying fire Mora or any of the staff. Barring total collapse, I just don’t see that happening or being warranted. It’s not Blank’s style. I am very concerned that the coaches let the players come out flat. If we’re not a good team, I think we will find out in the next few weeks: Cleveland (plays tough), in Baltimore, and New Orleans.

Dano, Check the sticker on a Honda Accord or Civic. The engines and transmissions are made in the USA on most of them. In fact American Honda has just built a brand new transmission plant in west Georgia and there is already a plant operating there that makes all the lock assemblies and mirrors that are used on Honda products sold in the US. A long time ago a trade agreement was made with foreign auto makers that all of thier vehicles made in the USA had to contain a certain amount of American made parts I think at that time it was 40% and that percentage has risen over the years. Look at he stickers on GM cars as well as parts you buy from your local Chevy dealer they are mostly made in Mexico or Asian countries. The same is true of Ford and Chrysler vehicles. Most GM trucks are made in Canada and Mexico now with A high percentage of foreign parts. These days a Honda Toyota or Nissan that is bought in the USA is probably more American than a Chevy, Ford or Chrysler. To reply to your question as to what I do. Since 74 I have been in management at AMC JEEP, TOYOTA, CHEVROLET which was the worse job I ever had, and since 84 I have been with HONDA. I have kept up with the auto industry for 32 yeras now and the fact is even though I hate it we just cant compete with the japs as far as quality and workmanship. Also I know for a fact that more than 14% of autoworkers belong to the UAW. I realize that this is the USA and there is freedom of speech here but it still tweaks my temper when someone from another city gets on the Falcons blog and starts cutting down our city and team. I have never done this on any other citys newspapers blog and I bet there are very few Georgians that do if any. We know we dont have the greatest team in football but is OUR TEAM and we will defend it when an intruder puts it down or at least I will! I am a die hard sports fan and will criticize them when they play poorly but will be behind them all the way win lose or draw. If folks dont like our city then leave! If you dont like our team then get on your teams blog and whoop it up for them! Let it be known by all people though that native Georgians and Atlantans love it here and we dont like the transplants cutting us down. We didnt ask them to come here or ask for thier stupid opinions. Anyway next week is another game and I bet the Falcons will win and the HOME TOWN fans will be happy again and the Detroit fans will be on another towns blog pestering them!

Here is why the Falcons lost..the entire team played like crap probably because they were looking at the 7-2 record they would have by beating Detroit and Cleveland. They will probably end up 5-4 instead. They must have forgotten about GreenBay last season.

Vick’s fumble and interception did not help, but neither did the dropped passes, the non-existent pass defense and fleet footed John Kitna. Even with the 14 points Vick spotten them, we still had plenty of time to recover and come back. Good teams do that. The score was still 20 to 14 late in the game..touchdown does it and maybe breaks the momentum of the Lions. The falcons did not even come close to scoring.

I have a couple of questions…why does Alan Rossum seem to be running backwards most of the time, doesn’t Dunn seem to be a step slower than he was a couple of weeks ago. The runs he used to break for 10-15 yards, he seems to be getting stopped at 3-4 yards, why do opposing receivers always seem to find the whole in the zone, because there always seems to be a gaping one, but our receivers alwasy seems to be blanketed by DBs, why can Roddy White catch, why does Crumpler do a dance in endzone and procede to drop everything else that came his way, and finally why do the Falcons seem to hate prosperity..they never seem to take advantage of the opportunities that come their way. These two games, lions and browns, were scheduling gifts and they will both be thrown away…that’s coaching.

IT’S FUNNY, I HEAR FALCONS FANS CALLING IT QUITS FOR THE SEASON AND DETROIT FANS THINKING THEY’RE SUPERBOWL BOUND AFTER WE GAVE THE GAME AWAY TO THEM. YES THIS WAS A HORRID GAME AND WE SHOT OURSELVES IN THE FOOT THE ENTIRE GAME. EVERYONE TAKES BLAME FOR THIS ONE. BUT IN NO WAY IS THE SEASON OVER, WE PLAY CLEVELAND AT HOME TO TRY AND REBOUND AND I’M SURE WE WILL. I JUST THINK IT’S CRAZY THAT 2 DAYS AGO EVERYONE WAS SO EXITED AND PRAISING VICK, NOW WITH ONE LOSS WE SUCK, WE ARENT MAKING THE PLAYOFFS, I’M SELLING SEASON TICKETS. MAN, RELAX THIS IS YOUR TEAM HERE WE NEED TO SUPPORT THEM NO MATTER WHAT. JUST TRY AND IMAGINE BEING A DETROIT FAN, YOU GOT TWO WINS YEAR AND YOU’VE BEEN THE LAUGHING STOCK OF THE NFL (MINUS THE TEXANS) FOR THE PAST 5 YEARS. I’LL TAKE THE BIRDS ANY DAY. THATS WHAT THIS LEAGUE IS ABOUT IS PARODY, (CHICAGO EVEN LOST TO MIAMI!) THE POINT BEING, IT’S NOT TOO BAD TO BE A FALCON FAN, AND ITS ONLY HALF WAY THROUGH THE SEASON, AND A WIN NEXT WEEK PUTS US AT 6-3. WE HAVE SOME ISSUES THAT NEED TENDING TO BUT IT’S FAR FROM OVER. Hey SICEM,

My 1998 Hyundai had both engine and transmission come from Korea…..My 2004 Honda says U.S/Canadian parts content 60%, Major Sources of Foreign Parts Content: Japan 25%. Final assembly point: Marysville, OH, USA Country of origin: Engine: U.S.A. Transmission: JAPAN So I stand corrected, we have the technology coming here, no wonder the are having so much trouble with Hondas now. My wife works in the service department as a cahier at a Honda dealership…..boy does she have the horror stories. Engine leaks, transmission failures, but Honda fixes them with no question and they still last many more miles than the American made counterparts. I gave up on GM when my transmission went at 31,000 miles because of a plactic slip ring (that they had discontinued using) and wouldn’t cover the cost 100%.

UAW membership has dropped from 700,000 to unnder 560,000 since 2001. Joe was talking about 14% of the Michigan workforce…… Furthermore, nothing Joe said was really offensive. His comments, I believe were out of the frustration felt for not giving the Lions credit for out playing the Falcons. Instead, the bloggers were pointing out what Atlanta players did to cause the loss. The Lions deserve credit for not giving up and fighting as the underdog to win!!! Read my blogs, that what I was trying to say. It’s sad you can’t accept reality, that is why you are so unhappy and angry. May the Lord grant you the strength to deal with things you have no control over. Peace. GO FALCONS!!!!

Take away the 2 turnovers, the Falcon’s still lose 16-14. Take away the 9 drops and Vick is 26 for 32 with 2ints. Of those 6 incompletions there was 1 ball thrown away to avoid a sack, one deflected at the line, and one thrown to Lelie in which he got tangled with Bly. That doesn’t sound like an inaccurate QB to me.

By Dano

November 6, 2006 08:40 PM | Link to this

Mellot,

Vick is accurate. He can “throw” and hit his man. The two previous weeks he proved he could “pass” the ball to his receivers. He just needs to do more passing and a lot less throwing.

By mellot

November 6, 2006 09:04 PM | Link to this

Dano, Are you saying that if a receiver drops a perfectly thrown ball, it is because the ball should have been passed? Seems to me that no matter what, with you the blame is always going to lie with Vick. I guess that mabye he will have to stick the ball in the receiver’s face mask so that they can’t drop it. Like in the movie “The Replacements”.

By Dano

November 6, 2006 09:17 PM | Link to this

Mellot,

No, you inferred that the receivers should catch everything thrown at them and that Vick would have been 26 of 32…..I’m saying that every dropped ball is NOT the receivers fault. Read my Blog of 9:17am. Your suggestion about throwing to the face mask is as dumb as you are. That’s a movie, we live in the real world. Understand?????

Gosh Darn it, I’m not giving up on the Falcons after three bad games. I think the offensive coordinator should adjust his game plans more and use the Backs as receivers more to keep the opposing defense guessing.

But I have to admit the Falcons were committing too many unnecessary errors.

As far as the defense, I don’t know. For me, it’s like a rollercoaster relationship with them. The offense builds you up only for the defense to knock you down.

But hey nobody is paying me to coach from the sofa or the stands.

Okay Dano, in that blog you refered to you asked if baseball players stand there and wait to get hit in the face. Is it acceptable for a catcher to complain that he didn’t catch a pitch because it was thrown too hard. No, just like a receiver can’t blame a dropped pass on the ball being thrown too hard. If your point was that the ball was off target, I might tend to agree with you. But you can’t make that point because that is not the case. Only people who are insecure about their own intelligence insult the intelligence of someone they don’t even know simply because they have a different opinion.

By Julie's Mom

November 6, 2006 10:27 PM | Link to this

Vick said he is the “Captain of the Ship” and that maybe he could have done things differently. Maybe? Why not start with holding the ball with two hands and not fumbling or not throwing that interception inside our 10 yard line. That comment just shows Vick’s stupidity.

Watch out for Cleveland. This is the team that beat Atlanta in 2002(?) on the last game when the Falcons needed a win to get in the playoffs. Atlanta lost but got a gift when Arizona beat Minnesota to put the Falcons in. Just another sad page in the history book of this franchise. The CURSE continues!

By Dano

November 6, 2006 10:28 PM | Link to this

Mellot,

You didn’t get that friend to help you! I didn’t say anything about a catcher. The inference was if a ball is thrown really hard, the hand is quicker than the eye and a batter can’t see the ball coming…..Thus they get hit in the head, not because they wanted to, they couldn’t react fast enough. Understand or should I explain that again. Obviously you never played in organized sports.

By the way, you have no intelligence to insult. Let see 26 of 32….81% completion rate….hmmmmmm…..Manning is at 65% for the year and McNabb is at 58%…..WOW that Vick really would be great if his receivers could “catch.” Don’t insult my intelligence with your dreams of a super QB.

well ,nobodys surprised, my best friend bet me the falcons couldnt win 3 in a row, I told him that was a given if pitts lose and cincinati lose ,the next game the falcon might loose probalbly would be baltimore, maybe. but when I seen how the falcons came out on the field ,i was crushed. why in the hell is donatell still pretending to be a defensive coach at all, and every one knows knapp cant chew gum and think at the same time. if you would go back to every lose the falcon play pitty-pat zone coverage, it dont work and it wont work ,you dont have mean enough player on defense. every year we hope and pray during the off season that atlanta would get the real player, even if they are drafted no.#1 they end up 10th or 12th rounder in playing on the field.

Lets face itAuthur passed up 2 winning coaches with winning records to get an unproven winner for family name sakes.Authur redeem your self for the price hike, fire your scouts first and then hir you some real coaches. donatell a wanna be, knapp can never be and mora well just say a chip off the block, same results. I know you want follow all the advise thats given here but at least save your face as a smart owner. you got the colts, beasrs and patriots to buy you a grat coaching staff from, oh yeah who told Dangelo he was that good,it must have been him self, you got to bump the receiver sometimes, and thats hard to do playing 10 yds off the majority, whats wrong you cant think. They need a 3rd and 3 and you give the opponet 8, I got sixth grader who play smarter that that. fellowers stop drowning yourselves, giva a man a pole with line and a hook, he can fish, but only if he finds water,-take away the water

By mellot

November 6, 2006 10:59 PM | Link to this

Dano, Thank you again for the compliment. By the way, I’ve played organized sports that is why your argument is ridiculous to me. A ball is never thrown too hard or too soft. Not for a receiver, a batter, a catcher, or a basketball player. If you can catch you can catch no matter how hard it is thrown as long as it is within reach. It sure is funny that when Vick throws an interception it is not thrown too hard for them to catch. But, in your opinion, the Falcon’s receivers don’t have enough time to react because the ball is not passed but thrown. May you are the one who never played any sports organized or pick-up. You were probably the last kid picked because you always used the excuse that the ball was thrown too hard or the sun was in your eyes. When in reality you just couldn’t catch. Just like the Falcon’s receivers can’t catch. Look at Vick’s record as a starting QB and tell me who in Falcon’s history has a better winning percentage? For that matter name 5 QB’s in the league now with a better winning percentage. If all you have are insults for me, then don’t respond.

By Titothebear

November 6, 2006 11:06 PM | Link to this

How hard it’s thrown is only part of it. Thirty yards is one thing and ten is another. Vick has thrown the ball very hard at short distances and no one could have made the catch. Your argument is flawed. Don’t bring out your vast experience as an athlete for me. I’v played too!

I see you didn’t respond to my comment about an 81% completion rate…..typical for people that don’t know what they are talking about….let’s see, since Manning joined the Colts, they are 88-48. Since Vick joined the Falcons they are 44-42. Does that count??? I’ll get more, but I don’t shoot from the hip like some folks…..

ESSENTIAL ITEMS FOR ATLANTA FALCON MOURNERS:

The Vick Creed (Or motto if you prefer):

“There once was a great player named Vick” “On the field he could do any magical trick” “Then along came coaches Mora Jr. and Knapp” “While King Arthur Blank took his beauty nap” “And turned his magic into absolute crap!

The Atlanta Falcon Fan Prayer:

Please let King Arthur Blank be pecked to pieces by the Dirty Bird and his remains thrown into the toilet of the local Home Depot. Dano, your Vick win/loss record is inaccurate. You included the Falcons record since he was dreated not the games he started,c’mon guy be fair.Hey folks, I’m just as p** at Vicks as everyone else for that careless fumble in the first half, but c’mon the guy was trying to make up for it, but the team did not step up. 6 or 7 obvious drops. Mora starting Forney with a strap on his arm. Man! the guy couldn’t even lift his arm and you expect him to hold off a 300lb lineman. Stupid decision! Why do we try to compare Vick to Brady,Mannning,or Favre after every loss. People get over it. Vick is our guy and he’s not going anywhere. Honestly, I rather have him than any other QB in the league. Yeah, Manning and Brady are better QB’s at this stage in their careers but both would be on IR right now playing behind this line. I honestly believe that Vick can win the big game for us, with the right support system. A QB is not going to win the SBowl by himself. History has proven that it takes a good, disciplined defense, special teams, coaching, offensive line play and skill position play, so the comparisms are pointless. Wether this team gets better or continues there downward plummet depends greatly on the leadership and strategy of this coaching staff.

Hey EO,

My comment was “Since Vick joined the Falcons” as I did with each QB….. That IS FAIR and unbiased. It represents every facet of the contribution including injuries and “bad days.” I’m not comparing Vick to anybody. Vick is unique and represents a tremedous amount of raw talent. My comments about Vick are in regard to his need to mature as a QB. He already is a great runner. He can pass with the best of them, but he resorts to “throwing” once in a while.

Hey SICEM, You never said what you DO at your job and by the way, the SEVICE department does more than fix problems. Honda requires timely preventative maintenance to stay in warranty. My wife does see and hear about the longevity of the Honda going 200,000+ miles.

GO FALCONS!!!!!

What is wrong with some of these mean spirited evil people! For goodness sakes Coach Jimmy Mora wants to win every game and our great team owner Arthur Blank works extremely hard to keep very good players happy on our dedicated and hardworking professional football club.

In my 74 years here in Atlanta I have never heard such hateful venom filled words and EVEN A HATEFUL AND MEAN SPIRITED PRAYER!!

SHAME ON YOU!!!

Now you awful gentlemen need to write an immediate letter of apology to the Atlanta Falcons football club.

I will start to pray for you few bad apples now before the devil DOES take some of you to his “warm place below”!

Please Grandma Righteous, save your prayers for those who you mentioned above in the Falcons organization. At their current rate of self-destruction they will be well done and extra crispy long before any of us or YOU!

Hey Hinson(s)?…

Ever thought about going to a shrink? People with split personalities like you and yours (Are you really more than one person by the way?) can be treated and live “normal” intelligent lives. I am sure Mr. DeAngelo Hall will be much more focused on his coverage skills after the league office fines his birdie booty a chunk of his loot for being a cheap shot artist on that headhunter job he unleashed on John “Marino for the Day” Kitna.

Go Steph. I like your analysis. I’d only add/second Al’s comment/question regarding the amazing pocket that seemingly formed with Alexander and Clabo ( CLA BO!) … and why the coaching staff doesn’t intuit what we see. Maybe we need to have an annual “film day” with this coaching team to say… why? WHY? (Why not?)

Hey folks, after all the negativity on this pass weeks blog (myself included)I must try to find a silver lining here. Overall this team has a lot of soul searching to do. Personally I’m not so worried about the offense. I think our offense when focused can put up some incredible numbers(though I’m still waiting for that result). What’s scaring me mostly is the defense. Right now it’s not even respectable. We make bad offenses look like the Colts every week. We can’t stop the run, nor the pass. We’re too small at LB, no pressure from our DEnds. I wanted to use the excuse of Kerney being double team but after watching the game a couple of times he’s really not. Our defensive front in just getting manhandle. Even when we blitz LB’s the offense easily picks it up (unlike our OLine) and the opposing QB has all day to set his feet and pick us apart. And lastly our DB’s. The past two years we’ve had the worst secondary that I can remember. And that comes down to the story of the Falcons. Outside of Mora’s first year when he took over for Reeves this team has been on a steady decline. No one has seem to gotten any better and that has to be a direct reflection on the coaching staff. Mora and Company just haven’t gotten the job done, and I haven’t seen anything that leads me to believe that this staff can. Maybe Joe D (special teams coach) should stay, but the rest of them should go at the end of the season. I know that seems drastic but why invest anymore into something that has given you no results…… Doesn’t sound too optimistic huh!!Yeah I know, I’m just tired of being let down year after year, and I feel that the Falcons fan deserve a better product. Do what you got to do Blank….Go Falcons..Hoping to go 6-2 in the last 8 games!!!!!!

Bird Babe, How did you ever get a blog? Do you actually get paid for these comments? Defense has been our problem? Our offense has slight to no injuries, our special teams has bailed the offense out many times and so has a much banged up and injured defense. How can you even be talking about the same game? What happens when a defense stuffs the opposing offense on the three yard line, and then the offense gets out there and…everybody now…1,2,3, KICK!…Da! Give me a break! The only way Vick and the rest of the offense seem to get motivated is when THEY ARE CRITICIZED!!!! Listening to the race crap as well as OUR OFFENSE got us where we’re at right now is CRAP!!! The accolades of Vick and our joke of first round wide recievers got caught up in the plain truth, FLUKE!!! Maybe that’s enough to get Vick p** off and earn his money for a THIRD game THIS YEAR!!!

I agree with you Gdg73, this coaching staff has no clue. Jim Mora is foolishly loyal. All the losers he brought from San Francisco (Def Coord, Off. Coord, Jason Webster) continue to be just that. Leopards dont chang thier spots. I sure the 49ers werent too broken up to see them go. Why do you not play to your strengths the line was blocking great with the new guys, then we bring in old guys again and Vick then goes right back to the same old running for his life. Jim Mora is always making a change after the fact. Now he puts Kennan Fornay on IR after the guys arm pops out every week and he has a damn!! belt holding it in. Damn your a genius. Same guy who went to college offensive coordinators for play calling. Seems he forgot his quarterback was drafted not just for his legs but his rocket arm. Right now Jim Mora looks like a Deer in the Headlights!!! I would bet hes calling his dad everynight. Arthur Blank worst decision you made giving him a extension without him proving himself. He won that first season with Dan Reeves guys!!
