Watch out for Lions

The Falcons are coming off two big wins and playing a 1-6 team at their place, but this game won’t be easy.

The Lions have given up a lot of points, and the way Vick and the offense have been playing, there’s no reason they shouldn’t rack up a lot of points Sunday in Detroit. I just hope they don’t get overconfident and look past this game. Any game on the road in the NFL is going to be a battle. And Detroit is coming off a bye week, so they’ve had some time to plan for this one.

We can’t let Roy Williams have his way in the secondary. Jason Webster has to get better or he needs to sit. These breakdowns in the secondary can’t happen. The defensive line has to get pressure on the quarterback like they did in the second half against the Bengals.

Just a quick look-back: I think it’s great that Chad Johnson shaved his mohawk. Maybe he’ll think before he speaks next time (doubt it!).

Go Falcons!

Nope, He is now going to hit Ray Lewis “in the mouth.”

Roy Williams is on a level with Chad so we need to limit him. Kitna has been good this season but throws as many Ints as TD’s. We need to get pressure on him so that we can keep up that trend. Blitz, Blitz, and Blitz some more but please mix them up.

K. Jones is a top 8 back in the league too so dont forget about him. Lets score 21 in the first so we take him out of the game.

Go Falcon’s!

Roy Williams said he is not concerned about Hall because he needs help over the top. How about he just be concerned with playing a great game?! Don’t assume you’ll have a great game just because it’s the falcons. The last time I checked, the falcons put on quite a show up there last Thanksgiving. Maybe that’s why there are still tickets available to the game.

I don’t see the team or the fans taking the Lions for granted. After all, any given Sunday…

I think that the Falcons secondary has to step it up this week. Playing a 1-6 team on the road scares me more than playing the 4-2 Bengals in the jungle.

I would like to see the Falcons give Jimmy Williams some limited playing time in this game. I think this is the kind of game in which you can implement Jimmy Williams to give him some experience. It all depends on the game, though. If it’s tight and it’s late, then Jason Webster needs to step up. If it’s late and we’re up big, this is a great game for Jimmy Williams to show up on the field.

Now, to further break down this game:

The Lions have a pretty good passing game with Roy Williams and Mike Furrey. Plus, they roll K. Jones out from the backfield from time to time. Jon Kitna’s no slouch, with over 1800 passing yards, and the O-line protects their QB. As a matter of fact, Jon Kitna is ranked 5th in the league in passing, so they are very productive.

Detroit’s rushing attack doesn’t scare me at all, though. K.Jones is ranked kinda in the middle of the pack in rushing yards. Mike Vick has more rushing yards than K. Jones. I don’t think they’ll be able to run against the Falcons very efficiently. In short, Detroit is ranked somewhere around #13 in the nation in total offense. (Atlanta is ranked 6th.)

Oh, and on defense- Detroit is ranked 16th against the run and a horrible 29th against the pass. They are even worse than Atlanta in this stat. And their defense allows an average of 27 points per game. Sheesh!

Uh, I would not overlook them, but if I was Atlanta, I would try to score a good 21 points on them the first half, then put some folks in to see how they do. The 4th quarter, if all goes well, should be without Vick under center.

Throw stats and rankings out the window. Games are won at the line of scrimmage, based on turn overs and executions.

Mo,

The last time I heard such talk about throttling an inept opponent, Favre and Gado put it to the Falcons in a really big way. The game will be played on the field and self-congratulatory conjecture won’t have much influence on the outcome.

I have to admit, Vick has impressed me the past couple of weeks. It seems everyone (even those who ripped him on national television have changed their tune). I’d like to give Vick all the credit, but there is alot he’s starting to do that he’s been asked to do all along. He stays in the pocket, so his linemen know how and where he is, he has looked off his main targets and thrown to others who are now starting to catch and earn their paycheck for a change, accountability for each and every player(some players blaming others while others stepping up and taking their lumps like a man), our defense holding together despite injuries and weaknesses in the backfield and last but not least, out special teams is starting to gel agian and under Mort’s guidance and advice our kicking game is getting better. Oh, and certainly last but not least, our coaches are starting to advise each other of weaknesses they see on each others stratagies and formations. Now with all that said this weekend should be very interesting. All the glory Vick has recieved as well as the coaches and our backfield taking their lumps. Now it’s time to PROVE YOUR WORTH!!! TALK IS CHEAP AND IF CRITICISM IS WHAT YOU NEED TO STAY MOTIVATED, THEN BY ALL MEANS, CONSIDER THIS CRITICISM!!!

The one thing I really want to see is Jordan Beck, in the middle if Ed Harwell, is out. Let Brooking play where he should play. Why have a back up and then not play him? JB, played good before he got hurt, and now they don’t play him at all. Why? There are 1st/2d year men in other positions, so why not in the middle?

I’m int in seeing Beck play also but with the exception of the Giants .Boley/Brook/D-Will have been a very good trio.Once Hartwell is released in 1-2 years it will be Beck’s time to Shine

I agree that no NFL game is a gimmie. But Atlanta has got to win the games it should win. The Falcons have to beat teams that they are better than to have a successful season and make a run at the SB. The Falcons’ talent and their record show that they are a better team than the Lions. If they cannot win these kind of games, then they do not deserve to considered one of the elite teams in the NFL.

If the Falcons stay focused they should easily dispose of the Lions. They simply have better talent at almost every position. The onus will once again be on the offensive line because the Lions head coach was Tampa’s defensive line coach and he is very familiar with the Falcons and will have a few wrinkles to take advantage of any weaknesses. Quick adjustments will have to be made.

It’s worth repeating - on “any given Sunday” in the NFL you can get you a$$ handed to you. Every game requires a high level of intensity, preparation and execution. Remember, last year the Falcons were 6-2 after the first half of the season. Detroit may as well be the Colts or the Bears if you’re a Falcon.

IF the O-line continues to be consistent in their pass protection and Vick continues to make great decisions and his receivers make catches he will be the most dominate player in the game instead of the most electric. Imagine if Peyton could run like Vick… Once Vick commits to studying and learning opposing defenses at the line of scrimmage and the coaches trust him to audible, it’s a wrap. Eliminate the number of hits he takes and he could destroy defenses for the next 5 - 7 years. Just a little something to chew on IF the o-line and Vick can continue to do what we’ve seen over the past two weeks.

In a way this game is a statement game for the Falcons. If the Falcons win it means they are serious about taking care of business. Good teams don’t overlook bad teams, the Patriots would never lose this game.

It’s simple, in this game none of the story lines matter, the Falcons are a good team and as a good team they must beat Detroit on Sunday. If they lose they will go from being one of the few good teams in the NFC to one of the many average teams in the NFC. It’s one thing to go on the road and lose a well played game to another good opponent, but you simply cannot lose to an inferior opponent and still consider yourself a good team.

The Falcons are trying to separate themselves from the rest of the NFC and become one of the elite teams. They might not get home field advantage throughout the playoff’s (Chicago - while overrated has a weak schedule - will probably get it) but they can secure a first round bye and avoid going on the road to play in a tough place like Dallas Philly or NY.

Knuckle up Falcons!

According to that idiot Peter King the Falcons don’t stand a chance against Detroit. That guy has never said one good thing about Vick. I feel like he’s jealous of the kid. How do you get a job like the one he has and be such an idiot? Peter your son won’t play qb in the league, he’s slow. The days of the supposed cerebral qb are in jeopardy. Look what just happened to Leftwich and Bledsoe.

Charles you hit the nail on the head. This week will prove if we are really a top team. What worries me is we have a tendency to relapse into very weak offensive games in situations like these after having looked good. I have a bad feeling this is not going to be pretty. If MV and the offensive play like the last 2 weeks i will be sold that we are top shelf team.
Beating a weaker team on the road with ease is the mark of a truly top team.

I WANNA SEE ROY WILLIAMS’ ACL TORN ON SUNDAY. OH YEA AND A “W”. BIG BLUE YOU SOUND REALLY SCARY, MUST BE A GIANTS FAN. I WOULD HATE LIFE AND LIVE ON OTHER CITY’S MESSAGE BOARDS IF I LIVED IN THAT ICEBOX TOO. UHH UHH VICK SUCKS YEAH HE SUCKS, ASK EVERY TEAM (PLAYERS AND COACHES) THAT PLAYS THE FALCONS SEE IF THEY SAY VICK SUCKS. MAYBE INCONSISTANT BUT ONLY A NY F@G WOULD SAY HE SUCKS. ITS LIKE SAYING ANDRUW JONES SUCKS BECAUSE HIS BATTING AVG IS LOW.

Take no prisoners. Remember the Green Bay game last year. We must go all out to win this game. JWeb will be picked on as usual. It is time to start Jimmy Williams!
Vick has shown that if given protection, he will make plays with his arm as well as with his legs. We need Claybo and Alexander to continue their good pass blocking. If Lehr and Forney are not motivated to pickup their guard play, leave them on the bench.

1/ Stay with the men who brung ya, meaning Clabo & Alexander earned those slots over the last two weeks. Protection? They’ve been a WALL that we’ve never seen before in the Vick era.

2/ Don’t force an injured player like Hurtwell in when you’ve got Brooking, DEMO & Boley.

3/ Keep giving it up to Ashley, MJ & Crump. Roddy may earn his way into shorter passes, like the two good receptions last week, but there are clear stalwarts here who have pulled in the tough ball in traffic.

4/ Use the FBs and “You can’t be Jerious” more to take some pressure off Dunn, particularly when punching it in during Red Zone situations.

5/ More Mallard. He rocks.
