Signing Ryan a big deal
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
That was fast! A bit surprising on the amount of money and the length of the deal, but I like the timing of it. Signing Matt Ryan that quickly tells me the Falcons are determined to get on with the future.
Kudos to Arthur Blank and Dimitroff for getting the contract signed. Not so sure about the hefty amount. $72 million is a lot of money and 6 years is a long time for someone who hasn’t played an NFL game. I do like the commitment to Ryan and the fans, but I hope it doesn’t come back to bite us. Sure, it’s not my money (although the fans will be paying for it at the gate and concessions), but I do wish they would have signed him for less money.
Obviously, it’s too early to tell if he’s worth it, but I can’t wait to see if he can live up to the expectations.
Go Falcons!
OK with Ryan
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
No surprise the Falcons picked Matt Ryan. I hoped they’d take Glenn Dorsey to solidify the D-line and I felt like he was the best player at No. 3, but obviously they felt Ryan could make a bigger impact.
Quarterback is a much tougher position to come in and play as a rookie, but the Falcons can’t afford to wait. They need results this season. I understand not wanting to rush along a rookie, but unless Redman, Shockley and/or Harrington can do something, they might have to get this guy in there. I hope he learns quickly.
He’s a big guy, 6-5, and he sounds like he’s very detail-oriented. Can’t wait to see what he can do. Now the Falcons just need to get some help on the lines.
Go Falcons!
Pick Dorsey
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The Falcons need Glenn Dorsey. Of course, they need a lot of good players at other positions, but I think they’ll pick Dorsey. I wanted Long because the O-line needs lots of help, but he’s going to Miami.
Dorsey is the best player available at No. 3, if he’s still there. McFadden wouldn’t be bad, but I think he would be too much like a Vick-type player. Don’t think the option-type offense Arkansas ran would work in the NFL. The O-line was confused enough trying to block for Vick.
I watched Matt Ryan play a few times at BC and liked what I saw, but from the looks of offseason moves, the Falcons are preparing to stick with what they have. Keeping Redman, re-signing Harrington and don’t forget, Shockley could be in the mix. Sounds to me like they’re trying to make the most out of what they have.
Dorsey could come in and make an immediate impact. That’s what the Falcons need.
Go Falcons! Let’s have a great draft.

D. Hall must go
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The Falcons need to get rid of D. Hall. Their decision should have been made after his tirade against the Panthers last season that cost them penalty yards and probably the game.
He is not a team player. He thought he was done wrong and he was going to let the world know about it, without any regard for the impact on the team. Even the fans were telling him to shut his mouth.
He is the best cornerback the Falcons have, but he talks too much. Cover your man, make big plays, and keep your mouth shut. How hard is that?
He had no respect for Petrino and he let everyone know it. He has no discipline. The new coach and GM don’t want to deal with that. He needs to go to the Raiders, or anywhere but here.
Moves so far
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The biggest disappointment this offseason has been that Alge was cut. I was a big fan, but he was a disappointment last season. His numbers fell off, he seemed slow and he was hurt. Going to be weird watching him play for the Titans.
The Harrington cut and re-sign thing was weird. Makes me wonder what the future holds at quarterback. Redman re-signed. D.J. should be back. Surely, they’ll try to draft a quarterback. It could get really crowded in the backfield.
It would be nice to see Matt Ryan in a Falcons jersey. I’m all for Shockley being the starter, but I’m not sure if he’s ready, and we can’t suffer through another season like last year with not knowing who the QB was for the next game. Not sure about McFadden. The few games I saw him play at Arkansas, he looked more like a runner than a quarterback to me. Can’t have that.
Hate to see Warrick go, but he just didn’t get it done last season. He needed better blocking. Glad he landed in a familiar spot. Wish him all the best. He did a lot for the community, but I think it was time for him to go.
