Vick sticks to the script
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
First practice of Falcons mini-camp is now in the books.
Sorry for the delay between posts, but with the new Petrino regime in place comes new rules. For instance: no blogging during practice. So it goes.
Judging from the sweat pouring off players as they exited the field, they felt fully put through their paces. Not that the workout made all of them especially short-winded; especially not new wideout Joe Horn. More on that later.
What all the news crews came out here for was a chance to confront QB Mike Vick. After practice, he came out contrite and polite, but insistent against answering any questions related to the investigations surrounding him on the advice of his attorney.
With an ridiculous number of microphones and cameras in his face, Vick proclaimed in summary: “Don’t plan on talking about me anymore unless it’s about football.”“
Before that, Vick mentioned that Falcons owner Arthur Blank had been “really bold” in giving his honest feelings about the swirl of controversy. Oh, to have been a fly on a wall in that meeting room.
Petrino’s on his way in to meet the press. More later…

Mike needs to think of pacman and the others and keep his career that paid him all that money. But, I fear that he could be suspended. Only Mike knows what he has done and not done. I just hope it’s the latter and we can get over this. Because we maybe looking for a trade if he can’t get his act together.

Mike will get through this, he also needs the media to keep their nose out of his business so that he can excel at football and not controversy. I’ve had faith in him before and I still do till this day. I say hell with the media, put your confidence in your quarterback, he’s not a crook but the best thing ever happen to Atlanta!!

Girls gone wildWhy do grown men whine about professional athletes. All of these blogs are filled with grown men who obsess, cry, whine, moan, complain, whimper, and belly ache over someone who is meaningless in their own personal lives. Who gives a rats @$$ what some athlete does or says. You guys cry all over these blogs like little girls, pansies, women. “I hate him, I hate him, I hate him, please why won’t he go away, my life is so miserable, God, why did you make me so short, and fat, and slow, and weak and pathetic. Thanks to Scott for the reporting. I enjoy the updates and your observations. I want to put something out there to MIKE VICK(and I’m saying this with all sincerity): TELL THE TRUTH. JUST TELL THE TRUTH. LET THE CONSEQUENCES PLAY OUT. IF YOU REALLY WANT TO CHANGE YOU MUST BECOME HONEST WITH PEOPLE. Look at JASON GIAMBI,he admitted and now no one even thinks about it. Look at BRETT FARVE, he admitted. STEVE MCNAIR. All these athelete have admitted to their “issues” and they are all ok. If BARRY BONDS and MAGUIRE(and PETE ROSE if he would have done it sooner) would just admit the truth -people would accept it and go on. You will never have any respect from the regular fans and those who wish for your best interests until YOU MIKE VICK change your direction and TELL THE TRUTH.

As the owner of the house in Virginia he is ultimately responsable for all activities that go on there. Things that have happened to him lately don’t just happen to good people. He obviously can’t keep his nose out of trouble. Blank and the Falcons are concerned because they know in the back of their mind’s he’s in major trouble. Get ready DJ. You just might get your wish with Mike behind bars or either supsended from the league. Who really cares anymore!!!!

The local paper along with what has now become a sports gossip channel “ESPN”, are sickening. This young guy simply not being born with a freaking silver spoon in his mouth is being raked over the coals. Heck he has made mistakes that all of us not born with silver spoons make. He just has more money to make mistakes with. Its time for us real Falcon Fans to rally around Mike. Damn, just because the man can run the dang football at QB a position black men aren’t suppose to play, he gets treated like this. Then the holier than thou blowhards who have done countless acts behind closed curtains, try to do a modern day lynch job on the guy. Its time to rally around the guy and allow him to grow up, and learn to handle the money and fame. Most of us would do some of the same stupid stuff, but heck young black men aren’t allowed to make mistakes huh?

He wants to keep it real, well if he dont get his act together he will be out of a job and out the league in a minute. I think it is shameful for him to be so careless when he know the microscope is on him 24 hours a day. He can do all this dumb crap when he retire. He dont realize that at 35 years old you are still very young. Wake up Mike, I love ya but I am getting tired of reading and hearing about you in a negative light.

See you on judgement day. And as for you JOHN CHAMBERS- it’s really funny to hear a “grown man” complaining about other “grown men” complaining. What does that make you? ROFL You’re calling other people silly and you’re the one on this blog resorting to 3rd grade name calling. Oh yeah, you’re way-yyyyy more mature then these silly people. Yeah, whatever. As for VICK, man up dude, you are hurting your fans that really support you. We have to constantly defend you and you’re giving the enemy more ammo every time we turn around. I really do not enjoy being in limbo wondering if our starting QB is going to even be in uniform come game 1. It’s not fair at all. Black Self hatred shows itself in the form of not being able to move past historic atrocities and develop a positive sense of self and confidence and utilize the tools that are available to you right now. You believe you don’t have opportunities because that is what you were told growing up, but if you take a look around you and see the positive and progression that exists within our neighborhoods, you will realize that anyone can achieve whatever they set their minds to accomplish.

This guy takes more bs than a lot of athletes and its because he is a unique player playing in a white mans position. To believe otherwise is nonsense. Heck, he hasn’t been convicted of anything! For instance, Kerney had a rape at his house while he was there, so does that make him liable. Vick has made mistakes, but I feel they are way overblown. It’s just sad that some people, mostly middle aged balding unathletic white men, are angry at the world. They try to pull the good white people in with scare tactics and bs. Call it what it is and stop hiding behind little excuses to hate the guy. He should be judged on the field as the other QB’s are, not because he wears cornrows, which I hate as well, but I am more mature than you racist maggots!

Its crazy how the NFL or the media have so much of an impact on contracted players in the league. Anyone from anywhere can say and do something that tie a player to another event or situation. Then the next thing you know the player is subject to suspension.
It’s just crazy how a player can be accountable for someone elses conduct or behavior.

Magnetto, please? I love everything about being black. See, when we accomplish things we have to go through 10 times what some people do. Heck, makes us that much better people.I don’t fault those who have built in breaks, its just those who fail to acknowledge those things. It’s only a few bad apples on both sides of the equation that distorts things, and the papers and sports shows play to that element. So if what I said doesn’t apply to you it shouldn’t bother you. But, the days of turning the other cheek when someone spits on you, are over. For every negative blog about Vick, we need to put out a positive. The AJC is like one of those gossip magazines, but they have to get the rural readers to respond somehow. Play to there fears and emotions.

dawgdan,
Black and White people see the world differently in terms of action and response. The response to Peyton Manning will not be the same response to Vick. You know this, we all know this. You and I can say “does not matter if Black or White” to an extent that is true in terms of moral capacity and standard, yet the attention, criticism, scandalization, exploitation, dramatization, and subjective exposure is extremely different and incongruent.
And white america holds this double standard as true and cast bold eye judegment on what someone else say (MEDIA) verses a preconcieved lie from the mouth of truth and reason.
Black America understands when someone is wrong. We call a spade a spade. Simple as that! At the same time, we should not have to bark outloud or explain in defense in a cowtow manner to the media to obtain validity from a incongruent community that shades white blemishes and shine black scuff marks.
We have to be careful how we deal with people on both ends of the spectrum as a fan to a contracted athlete. From Black to White, from personal friends to strangers. If Vick can say he not stupid or crazy about bring weed on a plane, then what is the remote distance that he would fight dogs in a state that considers it illegal? Vick has official webites of breeding high end dogs and warrants against fighting or its purpose whatsoever.

I’m sorry, but why must we excuse his behavior? Behavior he keeps compounding by making even bigger mistakes? If he had made one, or two, it’d be understandable, but continuously making errors shows a lack of self-discipline and awareness. I hate that he had a dog fighting ring going on (primarily, because I’ve found pit bulls can be the best dogs if trained in the right way), and that’s my largest problem with him. Even if he didn’t know, it’s ultimately his property and his responsibility to keep tabs on it. Think of it this way, if the police raided your house because one of your relatives was doing something illegal, would the judge let you by with a defense of “I’m sorry, sir. I wasn’t living on the property and had no knowledge.” Probably not. The same goes for him. Just because he’s famous doesn’t exempt him from basic laws. Sorry. If you do something stupid and show poor judgment, then you better be willing to pay the price if caught. That’s why some people want to see him benched, at least for a couple games. So maybe he’ll learn a lesson and know that he’s not exempt from codes of conduct.
It’s not the news media that’s promoting it. It’s Michael Vick alone. He’s the one that keeps putting himself in these predicaments. Defend him all you want, but think about this for a minute. If he was a nobody, would you really be defending him to your dying breath, or thinking “that’s what he deserves for acting the fool”?

Its just truth, without sugar. Most Blacks I know feel the same way. Other than the Stews to some degree, most blacks with aradio voice or pen never tells it like it really is. They just agree are remain silent as to not appear to black around their so called white friends. The media is no different. Blacks are always trying to fit in, why can’t they just accept that we do and like some things differently than the mainstream. We have a whole lot of things to work on as people, black and white but we focus on whats different more than working on the things we have in common. Sports is just a dynamic view of how we interact as people. Vick is being used as an example as to villify black men and to let him know, you better dress, play golf, and act like the other guys if we are going to accept you. Its the same old bs, just with new tactics.

He’s not even at the age where QB’s finally reach the top of their game and he has already made it to 3 pro bowls and won a few playoff games. You can trust that once the facts are revealed in this dog situation Vicks’ name will be cleared. You people want to exaggerate every little incident, when the fact is that Mike Vick has never even been charged with one crime in his life. How many thugs have never even been charged with real crime? We finally may have a real offensive system in place, and you bandwagon fans will start to act like you’ve always been a Mike Vick fan.

The Curse of Nique
Let’s not be too hasty here. Remember where we were before VICK??Nowhere Be careful not to make the same mistake the Hawks made with Nique.
Franchises rarely get players that transcend the game, and when you have one, you hold on as long as you can, theyre not a dime a dozen.
The animal rights folks are making a stink of it right now and he needs to clean that mess up, but lets not act like he killed or hurt somebody here. Those same folks are chomping down hard right now on a fat juicy burger. They cant live in the USA without being hypocrits, its a contradiction in itself.
And more importantly, he is not a habitual offender of any kind. So, lets not make our best player out to be some out of control madman. None of us can control our relatives anymore than we can control our neighbors. There’s only so much you can do, but he has to do what he can to protect himself.
How quickly we forget that it was Michael to the rescue of his younger brother Marcus, who had a penchant for mischief. And he may have committed some wrongs, not crimes, and is guilty by association to some tenuos degree.
But when you share a mother or aunt with those associates, its difficult to turn your back on people who’ve supported you, when you get your Big Break.
The airport incident is suspect as well. Young black guys get harrassed when in interstate commerce, some call it racial profiling, others driving while black, but it’s a fact, its real, and if you havent experienced it you probably wont understand.
But trust, if there was something there, they wouldve booked him.

He has to face the consequences, but I’m not about to vilify people b/c they are “supposedly” white and hate Vick b/c he’s black. That’s assumption. What does dogs have to do with football, nothing at all. Was it and is it wrong? Yes, but its not up to us to decide if he knew or not. Vick knows and God. Off the field problems should stay right where they are off the field. Punishing Vick and Pacman for these incidents isn’t fair nor is it justice. Then again, since when did a black man, rich and famous black was inocent until guilty, insted of guilty till proven inocent.
