“Action Jackson” ain’t his name

While he’s on the grounds (somewhere, “rehabbing”, according to Petrino) the big nose tackle Grady Jackson isn’t taking part in today’s practice sessions. Nor will he participate in any of the five practices scheduled for this weekend.

“He’s not ready,” is as much as Petrino had to say in that regard. Attendance here is mandatory for every player on the roster. Actual participation in drills (see: Alge Crumpler, Brian Finneran) is not.

But the big, disruptive defensive end John Abraham did practice this morning and he said he’s “100 percent” recovered from the injuries that curtailed what looked at first like a promising ‘06 season.

Abraham’s having the Falcons’ first-round draft choice, DE Jamaal Anderson, tote his gear on and off the field. But he’s also assumed something of a mentoring role for the pass rusher from Arkansas.

“(Anderson) just needs to adjust to the speed of professional game,” Abraham said.

They should dangle a hamburger in front of him. I’ll bet he’ll be ready then.

Something tells me the Falcons don’t want Jackson to practice. I think his days are numbered. Too bad, he did an excellant job last season.

Come on guys, We got to have Grady. Maybe he was visiting the buffet to much, but he’s a good man. He just wants his money. The defense is already soft and without his 400 pounds on the line it will be even softer. Let’s face it this is a rebuilding year Grady keeps it interesting. Teams will already have the ability to pass on us this season, you want them to run up the gut too? No Grady and we’ll be 32nd in rushing defense. He gives us an extra lineman when he is at the nose. Now, I’m sure if he does get cut the Buford Golden Coral Management will be happy, but that is not going to win games.

Grady probably needs to ease into action. Come on… He doesn’t need a lot of reps to basically come off the snap and stand up. No OL is going to push him anyone by himself. If they double-team him, your going single against Abraham, Coleman, and Anderson….

GOOD LUCK!!!

I like Grady and think he makes Falcons a better D when he is in there. The problem is he can only go for 20 plays a game and wants big $. Even with glaring needs on the D Line I can’t see him being here.

With the tone set by the new coaching staff, I wonder if the leaders in the locker room will get after Jackson to get in shape.

What is considered in shape for Grady? 330? I have to admit it was pretty funny watching that guy on the sidelines last year standing next to any other lineman. The # on his back looks the size of one on someone else’s shoulder.

Grady will be fine. He will win his arbitration and lead our defensive line. In all honesty he was our defensive MVP last year. He should have gotten more playing time and more all star votes. The only option that we really have is to trade him for another teams’ disgruntled defensive lineman. He is too valuable to the falcons. If the coaches would have let him play more and earn his bonuses he would’ve been happy this year. He proved last year that he was one of the top 10 defensive linemen in the NFL. The scary thing is that he played most of the year by himself. It will be scary to have him, Jamal, Rod, and John playing a full schedule one on one. Just think about the pressure on the QB and Grady holding up both the guard and center. He is a big guy. In true football terms he was a beast. I never saw him getting knocked off the line of scrimmage. He did his job. Take up blocks and still made plays at the line of scrimmage unlike most of our other defensive players. He has been doing it for years. He is a pros’ pro. You cant knock a player that was under paid and black balled from trying to recoupe his lost earnings. Someone in the Falcons orginazation played the game and Grady is only trying to win the game. So good luck Grady.

We certainly don’t know the whole story of his lawsuit and with a lack of all the information, we make up the rest. It could be worse…he could be someone that just runs their mouth trying to make themselves feel better. he doesn’t do that. I agree 100% that we could use him and he makes the D line better. Do we NEED him, of course not. If everything were equal, I bet the staff says plug him in and get him ready for opening day. Does the suit have a negative impact on the lockeroom? Who knows.I would think the determining facts will be: 1. How AB actually feels about the deal - is he beyond repair with this guy - 2. Can he physically get a job done and 3. what effect does this have on his team mates?

Apologize to Grady, pay him his MONEY and leave him alone. He knows what it takes by now to be ready to go in Sept.

Hilarious!

What do you do with a guy that is so fat and out of shape that he can’t practice?

What? Save him for the regular season?

Ludicrous.

They should eject his fat * from camp.

Again - I like Grady. Watching him come off the field last year he looked tired so I don’t know what the max snaps he can play is. He did have an impact when he was in there, despite missing every other starter on the D Line. The $ is a problem - where does it come from? I can’t say if or not he was underpaid, he was a free agent so I can’t imagine he took a big negative difference in $ to come to the Falcons. I have never heard any bashing against him (not that I would) but Coleman must love this guy.

Well, What i thimk that Fred Gibson, is a clutch receiver and know that the term and the fans, will see how good he is. That if the falcons, give him a chance. So what do u think about it.
