Jimmy Williams reaches The Branch
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Right at 4:50 p.m., sidling up in street clothes, about 10 minutes before the final horn sounded. His status was literally up in the air, or airplanes, that is, all day.
Later on, the 2nd-round pick out of Virginia Tech described his crazy travel ordeal from Blacksburg to Flowery Branch, via Hampton, Va. Missed a plane, etc.
“I’m here but it’s been a long day,” said Williams, wearing a Yankees cap and some casual attire including Nike socks and sandals. “I wanted to go out there today, but I’m just glad to be in the NFL.”
He’s not letting himself get pinned to any timetable for fitting in with the defense, or possibly starting. But his fellow ex-Hokie and fellow corner DeAngelo?
Jimmy refers to him as “Mr. Hall.”
So now the full complement of Falcons have flown in.
Also here is New York Times columnist William Rhoden, author of a recent book, “Forty Million Dollar Slaves,” a diatribe against how he believes African-American athletes have been treated throughout history.
Rhoden didn’t make it outside with the rest of us Media Sweathogs, except to appear on 790 The Zone while 2 Live Stews rested their considerable lungs for a while. Not even the music can drown them out. Wish they’d crank up some Zeppelin just now.

Wendy, Does it upset you when people tell you how horrible you are?
Anyway, Rhoden is by far my least favorite regular on ESPN’s The Sports Reporters. He st..st…stutters to damn much and his views are so 1960’s.
But you do suck, Wendy.

Great, we wait all year for football and we get Wendy Parker and her so called wit. Is someone else blogging from camp that will give us more than lame jokes and a fashion report?

Let’s just hope that Williams’ late arrival (albeit unintentional) is not a sign of why he slipped to the 2nd round. I’m cautiously optimistic and happy he’s here.

Rhoden’s book is flawed in that if the black athletes didn’t make so much money, ticket prices would be less and more blacks could attend the games. On the other hand, if the black athletes are in fact making the millions, why aren’t they giving back to the communities from whence they came?

I don’t know where you come from dissin’ the Stews. The best thing to hit sports talk radio as far is diversity is concerned. Talk football and leave the jokes to the professionals.
P.S., Bump Zepplin, pump some T.I.

The Stews would be fine if they knew more about sports.

In Wendy’s defense, I don’t think she was implying that the Stews should play Zepplin. I think the Stews were yapping, and there was some music being played, which could not drown out the Stews. Wendy simply wanted to hear some Zepplin. The “they” she was referring to was not the Stews.
But you guys are right about Wendy’s blog entries being garbage.

What? Why are you busting on our reliable 2nd string quarterback, nunna yo biznezz? Mike Vick is our starter - Arthur Blank is paying the guy a zillion dollars to be that and all Atlanta fans need to hope he comes out and plays like that (..and at 100% EVERY game that he plays).
After Mr. Vicks comments that he has “let his teammates down by not giving as much effort as he could” he will be under close watch by every Falcon fan. - When you’re a professional, you play as hard as you can EVERY SINGLE PLAY OF EVERY SINGLE GAME.
