It’s tough having a wife from Charlotte who is a giant Panthers fan. While I’m only secretly rooting for the Saints at home. I just need to verbally affirm how much I’ll be pulling for the black and gold on Sunday out loud. Thank you AJC for allowing me that avenue.

On another note, the article recently posted about the rookie of the year vote has something that really stuck out to me. Marshall Faulk claimed his vote is going to Flacco cause he had to compete and earn the starting gig, and Matt Ryan just inherited it. Is that the general thought around the league? I hope not, and I dont think so, but check your facts Marshall.

Gimmie that #2 seed and cap off an already good Christmas. GO Falcons!

The Falcons will be prepared no matter what seed they end up with. I have been so impressed with this coaching staff and the way that they have gotten the best out of each and every player. Hopefully, Mr. Blank will offer the staff enough monetary incentive to keep them from being lured away by other teams after the season.

The Panthers are likely missing two defensive starters this coming Sunday, and Brees is trying to break Dan Marino’s record, so a Saints victory is not all that unlikely.

Then again, if the 5th seed gets to play Arizona in the first round, the Falcons may actually be better off in that spot.

Whatever you do, Falcons, don’t end up having to go to Minn. or Chicago. If the Saints give us a late Christmas present, fine. We get to play a game(at least)in the Ga. Dome. If not, a trip to Phoenix will be like a bowl game. And REGARDLESS you are in the dance. Have fun…but take care of bidness.

If somehow the Falcons, Panthers and Bucs all get to the playoffs, I wonder how the seeds will be set. Normally you don’t play a team from your division until the second or third round.

I have no doubt in my mind that the Falcons will take care of business.

Smitty runs a tight ship, he is going to have them focused on the process and this week ONLY…the SHAMS game.

I don’t look for the Birds of Prey to blow out the Shams, but I do expect at 10 plus point win.

This is the game that pushes Matt Ryan into the ROY. He’ll throw for over 200 yards and 2 TD and not even play all 4 quarters. Burner Turner will have another 100 yard game with a TD or two. Roddy and Mike Jenkins will go off, Roddy will have close to over 100 yards receiving, and J-Rock will get his game going. I expect the Falcons to score in the low 30’s in this game.

On the other side, I hope Brian Van Gorder “unchains” the defense and blitzes that sorry SHAMS o-line all day long. Need the Falcons D to step up (and no, not just b/c I’m starting them in my fantasy football espn league final!)

I’m thinking Falcons 31 Shams 10 would be a fitting end to the regular season.

BTW…those 8 votes for Flacco as ROY on the site MUST HAVE been VICK JOCKSNIFFER SUPPORTERS 1,2,88 and 4th and goal voting 2 times (each) for Flacco. Great job, but it’s not going to work. Ryan wins it on the AJC hands down!

I do not want to go back to MN. They won’t play as badly next time. However, having the #2 and the chance to play in our dome, no matter the opponent, would be a real benefit (particularly if it is Carolina.)

You forget one important aspect of your comparison between Ryan and Vick:

Vick never had to contend with the complete wreckage that your guy left us with.

You are living in the past. Vick will be out of jail soon. You’ll have the opportunity to cheer for him and his new team soon.

there is no real comparison between herpy boy and Matt Ryan. As I look at the Rams game and the start of the playoffs, I’m concerned about the D-line being banged up. While Jamaal hasn’t been able to sustain pressure on the QB and the load has fallen on Abe all season, his injury bothers me. Why hasn’t anyone in the press or in the blogs talked about the number of snaps that Stephen Nicholas had at DE vs. the Vikings in the second half? Jackson and that tight end started to eat us up because of the zone coverage and a 230 lb DE rushing him from one side. DLED, any comments?

Keep your eye on … Ryan’s momentum: Atlanta’s Matt Ryan is completing what will go down as one of the best rookie quarterback seasons in league history, but he has not been as sharp the past couple weeks. Though the Falcons won both games with their rushing and defense, Ryan averaged just 170 yards passing, completed just 59.6 percent of his passes and threw one touchdown and two interceptions, while fumbling three times.

It�s interesting how many people respond to bloggers like VicK Supper 2, and others like them. They live vicariously through other people as supporters/defenders/etc. These people have a psychological connection to their hero, inserting themselves into the discussion/argument of their heroes as if they must protect them. They don�t understand why they have this need, usually loners, followers, sometimes even to the level of stalking their heroes. The best way to eliminate a confrontation is to ignore what they say.

Vick will lead the Raiders in 2010, or maybe the Redskins. He won’t play in at all 2009, and never again for the Falcons. Please let his memories be good ones, not hate-filled diatribe — he deserves a better legacy than the one some of his ‘supporters’ would give him.

With that having been said, there’s a certain cathartic value attached to VS2 posts. While 99% of the city has moved on and supported this team, the last remaining 1% has to flail out in the manner of a 13-year-old off their Ritalin.

Trust me, those people in making a bad example of themselves are not helping Michael Vick. And that sort of behavior isn’t what Michael would want anyway.

In the end, Michael is going to want to spend the next year of his life picking up the personal pieces of his life which were harmed during his time in jail. After that, he may want to play football again — but on his own terms.

Arthur Blank has closed the door on Michael playing for the Falcons — but hasn’t closed the door on supporting the man himself. Maybe, just maybe, even above the hires in the front office, and the drafting of Matt Ryan — that’s the best move the franchise has made this season.

I’ve been a Falcons fan since Nobis wore #60 for us, and made it through Bartkowski, Chris Miller, June Jones, and now Michael Vick. They’ve all given me a great sheet of memories to live with — and I’ll always support them in their post-Falcons activities.

However, it does any and all of those players and coaches a disservice to use any of them as a wedge against this current Falcons team. If you’re really a Falcons fan, and a Mike Vick supporter — you would realize this.

However, if your agenda is only to cause disruption, anger and frustration — I’m sure Michael Vick would not want you using his name in that manner. He’s a bigger man than that — and I’m sure he’ll make the most of his second chance when he gets that chance.

Vick Supporter 2….do you think the 04 team accomplished more than this years team really? they played 3 games against teams with a winning record tht year….(given they were 2-1 in those 3 games) the NFC sent a 9-7 team and 2 8-8 teams to the playoffs. You state that this year is a down year in the NFC…the 04 season was the worst the NFC has ever been represented in the playoffs. It is very possible this year to have 2 ten win teams in the NFC not get into the playoffs….not sure how that is a decline…

As far as Vick never playing again…I think that he deserves another shot. He messed up, he has paid his debt to society and should be allowed to move on. I do not believe he should have to be put through one more year suspension. That being said, I do not believe his place will be here in Atlanta. I am not sure that he was as great as many people here belive, given he made huge plays…but then like Jackson did last week in Minnesota he would have a melt down and run himself into a sack, or fumble the ball away. I do not believe he was as horrible as others make him out to be seeing that he never had a coach to sit him down in a film room and show him where his short comings were, how to improve, and never gave him much that got the rest of the offense involved in the game. It appeared everything was designed to make him “The Most Exciting Player” in the game, rather than a key element to an 11 man offense.

Now that being said I do not know why people here can not get behind this TEAM this is not about Vick or Ryan… I have loved the Falcons since I was 8 years old..since Bartkowski, Andrews, Cain, Jenkins, Jackson, Francis, and Miller…. I can’t believe someone actually wrote that we would be better off as the 5 seed as opposed to the 2 seed because we get to play Arizona. Go smoke another one buddy. It is always better to advance to the divisional round(home game) without having to play a wild card game. GO BIRDS !!! The next New England of the NFC. Oh, one more thing. I am so sick about reading about Michael Vick. That is the past. He is done, finished . He will never set foot on the Ga Dome turf again(at least not for the Falcons) This regime will never allow that to happen. Although, what a weapon he would be as a kick returner. But because of all the reverse racisim here in Atlanta that would only be a disaster waiting to happen, so it never will. Orlando, why would you read comments and not at least remove the repeat posts from the self-absorbed masturbatory types who are obviously running off quality posters who used to frequent here?

I disagree with the miraculous “win it all” remarks as if this team is a prodigy. The reality here is that the 2008 Falcons have NOTHING to do with MV or even MR alone. The Falcons’ excellence lies in the TEAM approach to winning games. They have the ability to win any game, and they play them one at a time with FOCUS.

I would love to see them win it all, but they won’t approach the playoffs as a whole. If they get dealt favorable cards on game day, they’ll win, and they’ll deserve the win. I just doubt they’ll go four in a row, but hey, it will be GREAT to see them try!

You are right. MVS2 has dominated the blog today, like he does every blog. DOL allows it for reasons I’ll never understand. He posts the same nonsense over and over, just in different words. I don’t mind you bc for the most part, you’ve admitted Ryan and the Falcs were better than you thought, and you respond to those who respectfully disagree with you. vs2 doesn’t do any of that. You happen to be steadfast in your decision to stand by Vick. I have no problem with that. Hell, when I watch highlights of him getting time in the pocket and seeing that laser arm, I know he could have been among the all-time greats. But instead of learning the playbook or spending time with his team in the offseason, he fought dogs. Whether you agree that it’s a big deal or not, you can’t argue that it is a felony, and he had no business wasting his time with it. I hope he redeems himself, but it won’t and shouldn’t be with the Falcons. Again, I don’t have a problem with Vick supporters in general. I have a problem with spammers that spew the same nonsense over and over while true Falcons fans are wanting to discuss the amazing season we’ve had, and how far we can go in the playoffs. But again I agree that, as long as Ledbetter allows it, vs2 will own this blog, and it will be a non-stop Vick debate. I personally think it’s a shame.

Personally I happen to agree with alot of his posts, except that Ryan is a bust. I think Ryan has alot of ability, but he will not be the Super Bowl, bond-haired, blue eyed savior you people are making him out to be. If you people should be cheering for anyone and give all the credit, it should be Michael Turner. i hardely see that much praise for him, which shows how shallow fans can be. i hate to admit it, but having Ryan here in the south as their QB is a big deal because whites are able to identify with him more easily, which he gets lifted up to this “future all-time great” status that they have given him after 15 games. i don’t think alot of white people ever wanted to look at Vick in that light, even when he played well, there was more complaint than praise. I don’t go against the falcons because of the color of their QB. I go against them because of the way the franchise finally “decides” to do things the proper way i.e: Real Coach, Good GM, Blank staying out of football matters, and most important, not making this a one man team like they did Vick. Vick had no control over them making him the center of EVERYTHING Falcons related instead of making it about THE TEAM. Thats what people fail to understand. Even with a great qb like Vick, it takes a TEAM to win in this league. It was pretty much the “Michael Vick Show” and everyone else. i don’t expect or want Vick to come back to ATL, its Ryan’s team now, or should be “Turner’s” team, but that will never be in this town. Also, we Vick Supporter’s can say what we want on this blog, as can the Vick haters do, which most of the time is completely racist posts, but they are still allowed. Redemption is near……….

The reason you don’t see as much praise for Turner is bc this blog is ALWAYS about Vick. Turner IS a beast, and imo, the MVP of the nfl this year.

While I agree people should be allowed to post what they want, they shouldn’t be allowed to post the same stuff over and over and over, which msv2 constantly does. Also, even if the organization had done things “the right way” when Vick was here, he still would be in the same place he is right now. Nothing was going to stop him from fighting dogs. And that’s on him. I thought Vick was going to be an all-timer after “15 games” but he threw it away. Even if he does come back to the NFL, I don’t think he’ll be able to reach that status bc he’s lost too much time and bc of the stigma he has on him now. Again, all of this is his own fault. Not the Falcons.

Sorry I am late. But how can the Falcons have a let down? Remeber we are not through with our “process” of becoming a staple team year after year. We are still in the learning process and we are getting better in what we are going to be now and in the future. Remember, last year we were the doormates. Therfore, let’s not underestimate an team with a bad record that at any time. Let’s be respectful of them, but let’s play our game and “kick their butt’s. Beibng in sports is not welfare: You have to earn the wins that you get on the footbal field with hard work, planning, strategy, and reaching the goal of winning. Our Falcons are doing a great job in doing that and is the model of the league in coming back from a horible season. However, our current “process” supersedes evrything about last season and has instilled in the Faclon organization the “will to win” and “to win”. Thank God we now have a QB with a IQ higher than 75 leading the show! I think we wont be seeing near as many Jasuckis Russels and Vince Youngs in the future.
There both clearly more worried about their stupid earrings being in, than studying the playbook….just like Vick was more worried about being Ron Mexico than winning.
Tennesse would be foolish to hand the reigns back to Young after this season is over.

And i DO hope that MV is reinstated. He would be a good fit for a team like the Vikings. And we could demand a top 20 draft pick in exchange! I think some team would be willing to do that in exchange for the “potential” that vick brings.
Now tha guy will never win a superbowl because hes one of the worst (come from behind) QB’s ive ever seen, but he has a fan base and could be our lotto ticket to a top defensive player perhaps.

VIck supporter: If anything Vick held previous teams down because of his inability to throw accurate passes! We had a pretty decent defense, and the top rushing attack in the NFL with Dunn, Vick and FB. But the weakness of those teams was our PASSING!!
How is that anyones fault BUT vicks?
If anything Vick was lucky to have good recievers that made shoestring catch after shoestring catch in Finneran and Crumpler.
VIck will only be successfull if he goes to a team thats defensive oriented and can hold the other teams to under 20 points. Minn, Chi, and Baltimore fit that mold. Perhaps a team like Miami could use him if they run the same offense next year.

Just admit it, your boy didnt have the diligence to study the playbook and work on his throws. He was more worried about flossin around town than winning games. Looks like Jasuckis Russell has the same lazy work habits Vick had. Either that or the same lack of brains. Take your pick.

Here’s an idea - Why don’t you open a “I love Vick” blog that has no termination time. Richbrave, at some point I’d think the salary cap would prevent Dan Snyder from signing Vick. I actually don’t think Campbell is that bad to where they would give up on him already.

I hope Vick gets picked up by some team that has a good coaching staff and offensive line in place already. The Skins would probably be a decent landing spot, at least compared to some other possibilities, not to mention it’s the closest team to Vick’s home town. But realistically I think it would be a more desperate team, like Detroit or St. Louis maybe, who ends up signing Vick. As long as he doesn’t go to Seattle (Jim Mora) or Oakland (Greg Knapp) it’s fine with me really.

The strength of the Falcons, the running game, has performed well today. Michael Koenen, who should be in the Pro Bowl, has also played well. Everything else about the Falcons has been somewhat exposed today. Mike Smith has gotten the most out of that defense this year, but without Abraham it’s a pretty subpar group, and over the last few weeks it’s starting to look like the NFL is getting a better idea of Matt Ryan’s strengths and weaknesses. Ryan has had poor footwork when facing the blitz in this game and has made some bad throws off his back foot into tight coverage.

All that said, the Saints are leading and the Falcons are only down by 3, and a lot can happen in the next five minutes.

The Rams were “playing their superbowl” today and played like they had nothing to lose with passion. However…like Smitty said…Falcons are resiliant and wouldn’t break. They hung in there and won the game.

Get ready for the playoffs next week in Arizona, Cards are a very beatable team if the Falcons win the turnover battle, play ball control and solid defense/special teams.

I’m a Falcons fan and am absolutely amazed by Matt Ryan’s performance this season. He’s been great, and will get plenty of ROY votes. But in today’s game - and the last 3, maybe 4 - he’s played like a rookie. Not good. He has still had a great season and could rebound for the playoffs - and, regardless, he is likely to be a stud for years & years - but face the facts: his accuracy & decision-making (things that helped him get such a great start) have been p** poor lately. Turner & Norwood have been the MVPs of late. That shouldn’t take anything away from Matt’s great rookie season and bright future, but he has sucked lately.

Try to put pressure with your front four then play press coverage on the receivers. Ryan can not make throws in tight coverage on a consistent basis. I have said it over the last 3 weeks. The Falcons over the last 3 games have won in spite of Matt Ryan not because of him. He is not the reason the Falcons are 11-5, Michael Turner is. Chris Johnson is the reason the Titans are 13-3. Chris Johnson is Rookie of the year. And, hopefully today this will put an end to that Matt Ryan MVP bull. Ryan is coming down to Earth a bit. So what? He’s still the best thing to happen for this sewer of a team for a long time. His deep ball needs some work. He seems to underthrow it all the time. He’s only 23, so he’ll only get stronger, and SMARTER. A scary thing for the Ryan haters.

Matt may have well played hurt the last few games. Did you see the shots he took to his neck in the Minnesota game? Additionally, he has hit the turf many, many times this year. One tough dude.

Turner is the MVP no doubt. Jsut look at the numbers and numbers don’t lie. Turner’s numbers make him the MVp of the team. But would the Falcons have the same record with Redman as the QB? I don’t think so.

Ryan has probably hit the rookie wall. It happens to alot of rookies in the League. Bottom line is he started 16 games and did what no one thought he would do, and that is help lead this team to the playoffs. Matt Ryan is far from over rated. If you polled so called NFL experts I’d lay 100 that says 100 out of 100 would deny he is overrated. 3,440 yda 16 td’s and 87.7 passing rating 11-5 record as a rookie starter is far from over rated.

Compare Ryan to Vick all you want. Comapre stats/records/ whatever. Bottom line is the only thing that matters is wins. Just ask Trent Dilfer and the Ravens team if stats matter or if wins matter.

What the real travesty is, is that some Real Falcon fans compare Ryan to a player that is prison and doesn’t even play for this team anymore, and Vick supporters support a player that isn’t even in the league. Who cares. Vick will play again. Jsut never for the Falcons. Some real Falcon fans shouldn’t care about waht used to be jsut what is happening now. No real Faclon fans should care about waht Vick used to do. If he does it again then good for him, the Falcons have moved on and so should the fans.

Anyone who knows sports knows that the QB gets more of the glory when a team wins…..and more of the blast when the team loses. It;s not about “us people” wanting Ryan to be the next Brady. Who gives a rat Arse about Tom Brady????

Really when looking back at the whole season of blogging it reads more like “you people” wanting Ryan to fail and the Falcons to fail because the fans bash Vick for turning his back on the team and the city and the orginazation for off the field views on life. Well to bad. Even if the Falcons don’t win in Arizona this season has been a total sucess. The Falcons achieved things that no one thoght they would. Did anyone predict Turner would have the year he did???? Nope. Did anyone predict Ryan would have the year he did???? NOPE. Did anyone prdict the Falcons would have the year they have had???? NOPE.

The present state of this team is bright and the future looks even better. People need to stop beating a dead horse. Who cares about redemption? Who cares about what the organization did or didn’t do or coaching that sucked and didn’t suck. The only thing that matters is waht is happening now. Ryan/Turner/White/Abraham are the present and the future. Stop beating a dead horse. It’s old news.

I have neither the time or inclination to respond to all of this tripe, but here is just one example of Ryan’s contribution and worth to the TEAM. Do you think that having both he and Norwood lined up in the wildcat didn’t open things for the resulting TD? The linebackers had to hesitate in case the snap went to Ryan for a pass. It’s a TEAM game and all contribute.

vs-first, I’m not your g******* friend. Second, you say you were referring to all the falcons fans? yeah right! Pull my right leg and it plays yankee doodle. I call em like I see em and you sir have an issue with the white man. I don’t know why, but that’s a YOU problem. Someday, however, you will wake up and see the world has moved on and it will be a very lonely place for the likes of you and others who continue to think everybody is tryng to keep a black man down. It’s simply pathetic actually. I feel a bit sorry for you, but trust me I won’t lose sleep over it.

And why do you think I’m white? Is it because I called you out for what you really are? Is it because if someone doesn’t agree with you then they must be white? Sad sad sad. At least we have a respectable and educated black man in office. Someone who doesn’t let race steer his beliefs and morals unlike you.

Back to football and people with a purpose on this blog.If the falcons expect to move forward they need to work on the secondary D. Arizona has 3 1000 yd receivers so it’s pretty obvious what their game plan will be. If Abraham and Milloy can get healthy that part of the D will be fine.

Even though I’m not a falcon’s fan I have watched them a lot this year and I think it is great what those guys have accomplished.

Hey Vs2, all your predictions have been wrong for 17 weeks! I hope you are better at your day job then making this stupid predicitons. Oh wait my lawn needs ro be cut get out there and cut the grass, if it doesnt look good then, guess what your canned! By the way whenever convick gets out of his half way house he faces the NFL. Which probably means a suspension for a year or maybe even life. People seem to forget that. I want to know one thing, I do have all this time to write a page long blog!! Get a life you nincumpoop!
