Follow the Carolina smackdown plan

Boy, Carolina sure did put a smackdown on Tampa Bay.

Now the Bucs will roll into the Georgia Dome with a huge chip on their shoulders come Sunday.

The Falcons need to follow the Carolina blueprint. The Panthers pounded the ball up the middle for the first half. Then they went to some fairly simple toss sweep plays for power outside runs.

Did you see Carolina fullback Brad Hoover knocking the great Derrick Brooks on his butt? The Carolina blocking was great. That was some good old fashion hard-nosed football.

I’m not trying to figure out the playoff race yet. There are too many variables. I just know for the Falcons to have a chance they have to at least win two of three and may have to sweep.

Ten wins might not be enough. Last season, Cleveland went 10-6 in the AFC and was at home for the playoffs.

The Falcons will want to put some hits on Jeff Garcia early. So he’ll be tap dancing in the pocket like he was against Carolina.

Can the Falcons follow the Carolina plan? Will Tampa Bay sure up it’s defense? Can Roddy White run circles around Ronde Barber like Steve Smith was doing? If Jerious Norwood is not 100 percent recovered from that rib injury, should the Falcons give more carries to the hard-charging Jason Snelling?

Orlando - Can you provide anything on OT Baker?? I read quotes from Baker a few days before the game saying he thought he may play some against the Saints. Maybe I missed it but I think Weiner played the whole game. Is Baker recovering? Is he beat out buy Weiner? Are there any concerns from coaches that he needs to toughen up ?? He has probably missed more minutes than he has played this year due to two or three injuries. Thanks for any info.

Great young up and coming team with a very good young QB, great free agent acquisition at RB, 10-6 record. Man all seems like a bright future. That is what all of them were saying last season in Cleveland. The Browns went 10-6 against a very soft schedule. In the preseason many experts believed that the Browns would be a much improved team but their record would not indicate so because of a much tougher schedule. Next year the Falcons play the NFC East and the AFC East, much tougher schedule and who knows Mike Mularkey may get another shot at a head coaches job.

So, By Brian F. before you bet the farm that the Falcons will be the next New England Patriots, wait until they win one Super Bowl first.

The Falcons are great on offense, below average on defense. We give up yards like candy on Halloween. They MUST pressure the opposing QB and stop the run to make a run at the playoffs. Difficult………..but possible.

Every team in the NFC south has played almost the same schedule. When teams in the NFC south have faced teams in the NFC east the teams in the NFC East have won those games Philly beat the Falcons, The Skins beat The Saints and The Cowboys beat The Bucs. The NFC east beat up on themselves. If the Falcons make it to the play-offs and they have a very good chance. It does not mean they are one of the 6 best teams in NFC. It means they have one of the 6 best records. But, don’t get me wrong they will be well deserving of a play-off spot. The NFL has one of the best play-off systems in all of sports for only a 16 game season and with 32 teams. But, don’t let the record inflate your ego. Next year will tell the tell for the team you all want to crown as the next Dynasty. They must first win their first Super Bowl before you can give them multiple ones. Remember this is a franchise that have never had back to back winning seasons.

Guess who’s back to his old ways, I’ll give you a hint .

Holla…….

NextClevelandBrowns? Like many analysts you leave out certain facts to fit your arguement.

The Eagles TIED the Bengals. The Bengals led the Giants in the Meadowlands. The Cowboys went to the last minute with the Bengals and LOST to the Rams! So did the “Hell to the” Redskins. The Eagles lost to the Bears whom Atlanta defeated. So shove off and go back to a blog where there are more your kind of fan.

By Singletary, great post I agree with you on most of your points. I think we may lose Malarkey, that would be a great hit to the development of Ryan. I know Ryan is playing great football but he is still young and does not need to go through 2 O coordinators in his first 2 years. One thing I think the Falcons may need to draft a RB next year in the earlier rounds maybe round 2 with one of those extra pics. All the touches that Turner has this year will take its toll on him next year. He even seems to be wearing down a bit as the season winds down. Norwood is exciting but just not durable. He gets hurt every season even though he gets limited touches. But anyway, If the Falcons make the play-offs they will have another advantage that that Browns team did not have and thats the SWAG to know they are a play-off caliber team. Big game Sunday if the Falcons win, start selling the play-off tickets they are in , No way will they lose to ST. Louis. But we also need to make sure the Eagles lose one more they make me nervous not only because of the tie breaker but if they go 10-5-1, 10-6 won’t get it.

Dang man get to the point! Whats up with these long posts that takes forever to get to the point. Look at it like this. Our record is pretty much right. That San Diego game and the Chicago game were defitnetly two games we should have lost. So if you are mad about that Denver game and that Philly and New Orleans possible win, we are very fortunate.

You know, when you type (or copy and paste) a whole lot of stuff, I would bet that the majority of people aren’t going to read it.

Especially when it has nothing to do with football

The Falcons might make the playoffs and we’re talking about this. We need hype, we need positive energy - a win this Sunday will take something greater than the sum of our parts. It will take Falcons’ fans in the seats, a coach who regards every play as if the playoffs are on the line because, well, they are, and players who temper a 110% motor with regard to thier responsibility.

8 wins means we’re not losers, 9 or more proves we’re winners - Oh what a difference a year makes.

No looking back at past wins or losses - one thing matters, Tampa Bay.

I live in St. Louis, grew up in Conyers, have been a Falcon’s fan for 20 years collecting team cards from McDonalds and taking crap everywhere I go wearing my hoodie, but paitence and faith have paid off, and I can’t wait for Sundays now.

How long have you waited?

No more squabbling over stupid stuff - our team needs us. If I wasn’t so broke, I would find a way to be at that game -

if you have tickets, please don’t waste them

Coach, team, and fans, this Sunday, dare I say it:

One Heartbeat

GO FALCONS!!!!!

“I think we may lose Malarkey, that would be a great hit to the development of Ryan”

I don’t agree, I think Musgrave is the guy whose loss would affect Ryan more. I’m just not that big of a Malarkey fan but he has had good results. Before anybody jumps on me I go back to last weeks games. Know what team has done the worst job of defending passes to RB’s? Saints, and how many passes did Norwood get? The 2nd down QB draw? In addition I think that they’re going to be some good OC’s out there this winter.

“All the touches that Turner has this year will take its toll on him next year. He even seems to be wearing down a bit as the season winds down”

I agree totally. In fact SI did a nice piece years ago when after Earl Campbell and others had a lot of touches. They were primarily focusing on Herschel and his diminished performance.

We probably can win the Minnesota game but the game coming up Sunday will really depend a lot on the noise coming out of the fans. Home field HAS to be home field. We MUST get a lead on the Bucs. You know that they’re embarassed and breathing fire. We have to win at least two out of the three. If we can beat the Bucs we can sweep but when’s the last time they won three in a row? As far as next year I just want one time, once for us to expect them to be good and have them actually play like it. To have a Monday night game that wouldn’t make you throw up all day Tuesday.

Actually I would draft a the best LT next year and move Baker over to RT. Followed by a TE. I know we need everything on defense but face it..all the money will be spent on offense and Ryan must be kept healthy.

Now to some football related stuff.. If we are going to beat TB the same way Carolina did, the running game is going to have to pick it up. That means Turner will have to reach the line of scrimmage in less than his usual 5 seconds, and will have to run hard through cracks - not stop and wait for a door to open. It also means using some lead blocking from Ovie or a TE. This single back stuff doesn’t provide the bodies at the point of attack that you need. But more importantly, BVG is going to have to find a way to bring a pass rush and get out of this soft coverage scheme he seems to be stuck on. Bring a corner, bring a safety, rush 6 guys, get agressive for Gods sake. And if one of them cheap shots Ryan like last time and no one jumps the guy who did it, you will deserve to lose. There. I feel better now.

we should draft defense; on the offense side will need some back ups but they play pretty well as a unit; probably at this stage we can still draft the best player available and improve this team; hopefully we can hold serve sunday and beat the bucs; if we win the last 2 games we go 7-1 @ home and 4-4 on the road; that is the secret to success; holding serve on your home field and going .500 on the road;
