Who’s renewing for the “09 Game Plan”
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
SAN DIEGO — Just checking my e-mail before heading over to Qualcomm Stadium for today’s game and had several e-mails from fans wanting to discuss the Falcons season ticket renewal letter.
The fans don’t like that they have a December 30th deadline in these hard economic times. They also don’t like the increases if the elect not to renew.
What are you planning on doing? Renew? Let the tickets go?

I understand why they are doing it now, because the Falcons are at the peak of their good will and good feelings for the season. Hey, this is the NFL and they could lose the next 5 as much as win them. However, I think it is somewhat a slap in the face to us Season ticket holders that stuck it out, and I have been sticking it out since 1988. I liked having till March to but my deposit down and June to pay. Not very happy with it.

I consider this a must-win game for the Falcons! Anyone else feel the same way? My son is in the Navy stationed in San Diego but he believes the Falcons should have the edge. He is rooting for the Atlanta guys! The Falcons are favored. Do not need a stumble like the one which occurred against Denver at home. Have checked schedule, See it like this at Saints (loss), Bucs (win), at Vikings (win) and Rams (win). Game in Minnesota could possibly be loss but I certainly hope not! Anyone concur? Violently disagree? Fill me in. GO FALCONS!

Well, I don’t have season tickets, so I guess I don’t have much opinion to levy on the issue. Perhaps I’ll get them next year and then gripe alongside anybody else that has something to complain about.
Referring to the last blog, I’m glad that we extended our receivers. How nice it is to see a franchise doing what it should do, taking care of business and building the program. Dimitroff was a wonderful hire by Blank, and Smith was a wonderful hire by Dimitroff. We’re clearly headed in the right direction.
D. Orlando Ledbetter,
You know how any form of censorship, whether it is perceived or real, is viewed. It always raises a cry about freedom of speech and what not. Understandably so, yet people forget that freedom of speech is a heavily abused freedom. They also forget that freedom of speech is really only protection from government censorship. It doesn’t protect you from lawsuits, as many cases have proven. It doesn’t protect you from getting your a$$ beat when you sound off in the wrong way, to the wrong people, at the wrong time. But you see, that is the beauty of a blog. Pathetic cowards like the one you considered banning, can always come here and say what they feel, however brash, insulting, and downright wrong it may be. All with no more consequence than to be met with the same verbal vitriol that they spew.
And in doing your worst (banning him), all you may accomplish is martyring him. In the end, perhaps he changes his name and comes right back. What can you do about a crab-a$$ brotha on a blog? Not much. You’ll never hear of this kind of foolishness at a sports bar or at the stadium. The man would be afraid he couldn’t get back to his personal vehicle without being accosted by some of the more rabid Falcon fans. And you know what’s worse? He might actually get beaten down by none other than some other brothas. Funny how when one of us other blacks does not agree with him, suddenly he wants to call us white rednecks. Is if that strips the dark skin from our bodies. Give me a break. Nothing but another crab-a$$, bitter brotha with less than others. It’s painfully obvious. Anyway, just food for thought. I enjoy your blogs for the short amounts of time when we can actually talk about football and the Falcons. Keep doing your thing, man. And don’t let the crabs get to you. There will always be crabs, brothas trying like hell to make us all look like the very thing true racists say we are. Trying to drag down the whole race. But they won’t succeed. Keep your head up. It’s just a blog.
Meanwhile, I notice the Falcon haters have little to say about our victory against Carolina. In fact, I don’t hear a damn word. We won, and in fine fashion.
Brooking may be past his peak, but he still has value. Let’s not stick a fork in him just yet. Jamal Anderson and Jonathon Babineaux are improving daily, and coaching (and determination) has been the key. Those guys will be okay, I think. And if they aren’t….well, we know what school Mike Smith is from. The do-it-or-get-the-hell-out school. But he’s not a hater. He just demands the best. And he’ll get it. Thankfully, he erases all memories of Mora’s silly butt. Mora couldn’t separate the concept of players’ coach vs. players’ buddy. I’ll bet he knows better now.
So, we have San Diego today. I’m looking forward to this one, as it is another tough game, and another opportunity to learn how to win tough games on the road. We can do it, just like we did against Carolina. For once, this is an actual team, capable of winning on the basis of contributions from several areas. We’re not relying any one element to save us. And that is the beauty of watching a football team, not just a football player.
Anyway, what does anybody think is the big key for beating San Diego?

Stendec,
Why do you see us losing to New Orleans? Is it because Reggie Bush will be back around? Just curious. We looked very steady against Carolina (although our defense got rattled a few times).
One thing to keep in mind: this team has far outlived most expectations for the year. Rookie head coach, rookie GM, rookie starting quarterback. While I now expect and certainly hope that we maintain a winning record, the worst we could do now is go 7-9, a record that is better than many picked us to have. Still, I don’t want to go 7-9, like we did when the “superstar” was here. No, we have to be better than that. We’ve shown we’re better than that.

Pass defense is what I’m going with for the big key.
Also, not trying to censor anyone. Just would like it for folks to try to stay on topic and not to incite others into senseless banter.

We’ve had season tickets for 10 years now and we’re going to let ours go because of this Dec. 30 deadline.
If we had until March, like previous years to decide, we would probably re-up. But right now, it’s a no-go.

D. Orlando Ledbetter,
I wasn’t accusing you of anything, I was just saying that was how it was taken by a lot of people. I figured you weren’t going to go down that path, but you know how people take things sometimes. And I agree on the senseless banter thing. It helps if people don’t reply, though (something I’ve been guilty of before).
I think pass defense is indeed a big key to this game. We’ll see how it goes. That, and a good, effective offense is a great help to the defense.

Good to see Roddy make a couple of nice gains after catches. Especially after suddenly the Falcons “fans” have turned to calling for his head. Wow…LOL. As for the overthrow by Ryan, I hope everyone is reminded that he’s not the spotless savior some have touted him to be. He’s good, but not yet great. He doesn’t have enough games under his belt to tag him as great. He’ll bounce back in this game though. And if the Falcons pull this one out it’ll be a TEAM effort.

Concerning Ryan….you cant tell me that this guy is a bust…..look at what we had last yr with Harrington, Leftwich, and the other guy that I cant remember now…..it could have been worse……and yes Flacco looks like he could have done just as good as Ryan here with the way that he has been playing, but The Falcons have them a good franchise qb in Ryan….I am sticking with him and rooting for this team.

The Falcons receivers screw them again with dropped touchdowns and fumbles for a touchdown. The special teams aren’t special except for bad plays. The offensive coordinator refuses to accept the 7 man line that SD has thrown at them; 20 yards on 13 running plays and a fumble.

I’m smellin’ 10-6. Washing losing today helps us out in the wild card race. Even when we look sloppy, we’re still winning. This was big. Nice to see Babineaux stepping up, too.
Anyone else notice Kroy Biermann’s already a better pass rusher than Anderson? JA should be cut and re-signed for a lot less, and I’ve been supporting him so far. But when Chauncey Davis steps in last week and plays 12 minutes and gets 2 sacks, and Biermann and Babs do it again today, you’ve got to start thinking it’s the player that’s failing, not the system. He should take over Davis’ role the last couple of seasons: rotational backup who’s solid against the run and nothing spectacular. But he doesn’t need top 10 money for that.

Ya know, it really seemed like the Chargers thought this was a grudge match against our Burner. There were several stops that looked like he was “jacked up,” with props to ESPN’s Tom Jackson. I think our coaches/ offense were trying to give him a TD on his former turf, but the only coaching decision I’d change was just the realization they were keying on Burner.
Against other teams with an aggressive offense, we can’t commit the turnovers. I still wish we could have a do-over on the Eagles game. But is this amazing or what?

Good win on the road today. EXCELLENT job by the entire Defense.
Getting back to the first question posed at the top of the blog, I have had season tix for over 20 years. That is now coming to an end due to “Gameplan 09”.
Mr. Blank and his marketing “geniuses” have out-greeded themselves for my money. In these times, with this economy-KNOWING that we will have to pay out money very soon for potential playoff tickets, they went and changed the plans and schedules that have been utilized for years. There was no warning that anything was about to change-just this little Thanksgiving surprise in the mailbox.
The ironic part of all this is, when the team was issuing statements earlier this year about how difficult filling the dome was expected to be after last year’s difficulties, they still had MY money. I supported the team with my actions.
Now, I feel like I have been stabbed in the back. Mr. Blank, you have forced me into choosing between tickets for next year or my kids having anything for Christmas this year.
Santa Claus wins.
Shame on your greed forcing me to make that choice.

Tampa Bay had better be prepared to get their butts kicked in Atlanta by Atlanta. The current Falcons are a far superior team, both OFF and DEF, than the one they defeated earlier in the yr at Tampa Bay.

Where’s jock sniffer at now? Seems like Matt Ryan is all in this boy’s head. He may end up in a mental institution if Ryan keeps progressing into the star he seems destined to be. Hey jock sniffer what are you going to do when Ryan wins rookie of the year? You’re folks better have a suicide watch out because I think you might just jump off a bridge. HINT.HINT.

Is there a moderator here? Please delete these asinine Vick posts. They have nothing to do with the team and only evidence some racial bias the poster has against current Falcon players. Have some common sense and get rid of these posts.
Intent aside, anyone calling Ryan a bust is so ignorant of football they have no business even watching the game.

O.D. won’t ban the moron posting as Vick Supporter, etc. He/they have been around for a while now, attention seeking w******* with mental issues. Nothing more. It’s fun to come in and see them slither away after Matt Ryan lead the Falcons to another victory.

Would it be more appropriate to put NFL superstars such as Mike Vick, Plaxico Burress, Ray Lewis and Pacman Jones on the NFL’s All-THUG Team or the All-DUMBAZZ Team?
Aside from being professional football players, can you guess each of these “gentlemen” have in common?

Don’t worry, Vivk supporter. Your boy will be back next year causing some other team to lose since he can’t throw. ATL will take the QB they have, as he hits receivers in the chest, not ‘in the general vicinity’ as your hero does.

DON’T YOU PEOPLE KNOW WHAT THE TOPIC IS? ITS ABOUT HOW ARTHUR BLANK IS TRYING TO FILL UP HIS DOME AND KNOW HE CAN’T. WHY WON’T YOU SUPPORTERS OF THE MIGHTY FALCONS BUY TICKETS? WHY DID CORPORATE SPONSORS HAVE TO BUY SO MANY AND NO MATTER HOW MANY DISCOUNTS, THE DOME STILL CAN’T GET FULL?? WHAT KIND OF “SUPPORT” IS THAT?? GUESS YOU REALLY ONLY SUPPORT IN SPIRIT! ROFLAMO

Would it kill management to wait until AFTER Christmas, especially this year? Give hard-working folks a chance to buy their loved ones gifts AND renew their tickets.

If FLACCO had ATLANTA’s coaching, I believe his stats would match or exceed those of RYAN. FALCONS could have used that first round DT they missed with the RYAN pick. Right KEN S.?

Decided long ago SANTA would win out over EDWARD BENNETT WILLIAMS in the “my money” sweeps.

The Atlanta Falcons organization cares nothing for its fans. Year in and year out I have supported them by being a season ticket holder and this is the thanks I get. You are going to raise my ticket price if I don’t renew by 12/30/2008. How is this a good thing?!! I liked having to pay in March and June. Now you want our money during the holiday season with no consideration for the tough economic times we face. Your greed is unbelieveable!!! Shame on you Mr. Blank!! You cut back on your giving because of the economy, yet you want the “average Joe” to continue to line your pockets and other millionaires. I hope you can sleep at night.

Atlanta’s Coaching? Now, I’m not gonna say that the Falcons havent done in a really good job in the coaching department. but please!!!!! there’s a reason why every scouting service said that ryan had off-the-chart intangibles and an amazing work ethic and intelligence. Give credit to where credit’s due!! So it was the great job of the coachs that enabled Ryan to pick-up the 2-minute offense so well? Or why ryan has thrown half the interceptions that Flacco has? no offense to flacco, but I wouldnt trade what ryan is now or what he’ll be in two years for flacco AND dorsey! I’ve gotten to see the kid play at BC, and Ryan’s a true leader, clutch, and a winner. Plus, he’s a good, humble kid that can and is willing to be the best. That’s a rare thing when it comes to alot of athletes.

Maybe now you people see that Arthur Blank could care less about you. While you’re praising him as some sort of poor feebele man who got had by the mean ole Petrino and bad Mike Vick, looks like he is telling you to your face that he could frankly care less. He wants to be PAID

The Falcons ‘09 ticket plan is disgusting. I have had season tickets since I moved to Atlanta 10 years ago and have supported the team through bad and good times and there have been a lot more bad than good.
I realize that the Falcons are a business but this is also a loyalty business. Long time season ticket holders should not be screwed over for short-term gain.
My husband and I are are opting out, I will not be strong armed by a the falcons Org. Considering that I renewed this season after the garbage that was last season, I would have expected better treatment.

Falcons have to increase prices to meet market demands. Getting early money now by incentivizing season tix holders to lock in at that lower price is a great compromise. It’s all about present value of money. Plus, their six month payment plan is easier on household budgets. Don’t have to dig deep for that lump sum in the Spring.
