Falcons keeping receivers intact
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
By extending the contract of wide receiver Michael Jenkins, the Falcons have a chance to keep their passing game intact for years to come.
With Jenkins secure for four more years, along with Roddy White and Harry Douglas, the Falcons have a solid triple-threat receiving corps for the foreseeable future.
White is already first in line for next year’s extension. White has a base salary of $805,000 this year and $780,000 next year. He would be eligible to become a free agent in 2010, but these two moves - DT Jonathan Babineaux was also extended — show that the Falcons plan to “lock down” players who fit THE PROCESS.
After what should be two 1,000-yard seasons, White certainly fits.
Jenkins is finally being used correctly as a vertical receiver and he’s blocking like Hines Ward. He should turn in his second consecutive 50-catch season. He’s also doing enough on his side of the field to keep White for seeing unadulterated double-teams.
With quarterback Matt Ryan, Jenkins and Douglas on board, the Falcons have a chance to develop some cohesiveness in the passing game. White has earned a new deal and one should be forthcoming. They don’t want him to hit the free agent market. Knowing that they’ll be together, Ryan and the top three receivers can work on their timing, route running and route adjustments over the offseason.
They are doing great for being together basically since last April. They will only get in more sync over time and have a shot at becoming one of the league’s top passing attacks.
Brian Finneran is also doing a great job this year and has to be a Comeback Player of the Year candidate. Wide receiver Laurent Robinson is also a talent, but can’t seem to stay healthy. Eric Weems has pro moves and quickness, too.
Also, Babineaux has been toiling away inside at defensive tackle this season. He’s been a downright disruptive force at times. The team must like his upside and think he can get even better.
So do you like the Falcons trying to keep in the receiving corps together? Should the Jenkins and White duo —- with HDTV in the slot — strike fear into the rest of the NFC South? Should Ryan and the receivers do like Peyton Manning and his receivers and hook up over the offseason to precision tune their routes?

I was excited to hear this news this morning on Sports Talk radio. Jenkins is definitely coming into his own this year.
I do wonder what the future holds for Laurent Robinson. HD must be past him on the depth chart now. Even Finneran is probably above him. Oh well, what a nice problem to have, too much talent at one position instead of not having enough :O)
Babs has been a force this year, he earned his extension too. I look for the Falcons to draft a DT or get one in Free Agency to compliment Babs. Grady is good, but getting old, need some new blood.

HDTV????? Stop it with the corny nicknames, please!! I like what the team is doing with its young veterans. Go ahead and lock them up and continue to build through the draft. I hope that Dahl and Clabo get extensions as well. I guess there is no ruch in extending Boley. He he would have played lights out this year, I assume he would have been extended as well. I have confidence in him however. The guy is a very good player at the SLB position. Maybe he will get his money once YKW is released (Keith Brooking).

Stop Hatin, on Harry Douglas his initals are HD and the way he plays is most definatly in HD.
I am glad that 12 and 95 got extensions that will most certianly give atlanta the needed threat in the vertical passing game (opposite of 84). and Will give 55 the assisstance on the d-line. I say Go After Haynesworth in Free Agency and a CB to put on the other side of 24 (possibly 21 from OAkland, face it our corners suck) to sure up our pass defense.
I agree that Brooking has lost SOME Steps but Y does everybody keep tryin to toss aside the Basically only Vet LB we got If we find better keep 54 as a teaching aid.

Good job with the signings - I do think that both guys were overpaid but hard to tell because you did not give us the details of the contract - typically the last year of a contract never is realized. Please give us the breakdown of contract as soon as details become available to you, Mr. Ledbetter.
I am with the other guy on the nicknames - nicknames are for players to call each other - would prefer not to see them in the newspaper. Not professional in my opinion.

No one “hated on,” Harry Douglas. I suspect Mr. Douglas is one of the most beloved figures in Georgia right now. The previous writer was “hating on,” Mr. Ledbetter and his juvenile nickname fetish. He has a point. And, thank you, English Teacher, for upholding our language for an institution that, presumably, employs many experience, professional editors.

Good blog, D.O.L.. White and Jenkins is probably the best duo since the Alfred twins (Jenkins & Jackson, for the fake Falcon fans); therefore, yes, NFL teams should fear and respect this receiving corps. It is very wise the Falcon management to lock in this type of talent. Tell Me the last time Falcons employed a receiver taller than six feet with talent…I’ll wait.
It is very productive for a QB to spend offseason time with his receiving corps (at least the top three). It would establish a relationship that usually ends up at the SuperBowl. I think this is where M. Vick was at his weakest; he did not spend offseason with a passion to the game.
HD, love You boy. Do what You do and represent ATL to the fullest.

Actually it’s better than you say, Orlando, because the best pure route-runner and receiver on the team isn’t catching any passes right now, and that’s Laurent Robinson. When he gets healthy the Falcons will be able to trade Roddy for a #1 pick. If Dimitroff isn’t already planning for this, he should be.

Turtsnap wrote: “Even Finneran is probably above him.” Just curious, why would you make such a comment. Finneran has been one of the most consistent recievers the Falcons have had over the past years. In 2005 (his last healthy season) he caught more balls (50) than Roddy or Jenkins yet you seem surprised that he would be higher on the depth chart than some no-name kid who has caught 5 balls for this team. Must be a melanin problem for you.

Whatever happened to Laurent Robinson??? Last year, he was vying for a starting spot and, now, he doesn’t even merit a whiff of discussion. I know he got hurt early in the year, but an injury does not preclude someone from being a good receiver at some point. Is he not a good fit in Mularkey’s scheme? What’s the deal?

I agree that Robinson has talent, but it does him no good when he is constantly hurt. Greg, you need your head examined for thinking TD would trade White. What sense does that make? What player would TD then draft with that so-called #1 pick? Another receiver? Get real.

RonShields wrote: “I agree that Brooking has lost SOME Steps but Y does everybody keep tryin to toss aside the Basically only Vet LB we got If we find better keep 54 as a teaching aid.” I’m just curious why does everyone keep saying Brooking “has lost a step” when he is the fourth leading tackler on the team. He has 9 more tackles than the other outside LB (Michael Boley) yet I’ve never heard anyone talk about Boley “losing a step”…curious isn’t it. By the way Brooking is #56 not #54. But I agree with your point we need to keep him around.

CrabappleJoe, your are ridiculous. Really you are. Why does everything have to be black and white? It also amazes me that Finneran has moved above Robinson as well. The guy probably was taking into account the fact that Finn is coming off of two knee surgeries, yet he has passed Robinson on the depth chart. I credit Finneran for having the drive to get back and contribute. Nobody cares about the color of Robinson or Finneran’s skin. Stop being so petty. It’s making you look bad.

Thanks for the memories Keith. Too bad about Robinson - he can’t stay healthy and will likely be going as well. TE and Monster LB via Free Agency and things will move forward all the more. Milloy will be an interesting call. Would be great if we can keep him but sense the price may be too steep.

I think you are making too big of a deal about the nicknames. This isn’t a doctoral thesis or even an official article. This is a blog post, which is a little more open with regard to style in my humble opinion. Ledbetter is simply trying to write an informative blog entry while also making it fun to read. Who wants to read a boring run down of the extentions with nothing but facts. Sports is about having fun, both watching it and reading about it. Cut D-led some slack.
As for the extentions, great move by the Falcons. We need to keep the best of the core of both the offense and defense together and keep building.

I look at Finneran as a very valuable asset. He appears to be Ryan’s “security blanket” third down receiver. You have to love having a 6’5” wideout with good hands to go to when you HAVE to have a catch made.

I just love the fact that we are all positive and it is the Falcons that we are talking about. I also love the fact that we were only picked to win like one game this year. I guess that means i should be getting paid to predict games like so many of the so called experts. The Falcons no doubt have turned alot of heads this year, and with the addition of a few key players could turn alot more. They had oppurtunities to win a couple of more games, especially the one that the refs blew in Philly. I expect them to only win more and bring Hotlanta another championship for years to come. Could we be talking about the next best thing in the NFL ? I surely dont wanna jump the gun, but this team can only get better.

Crabapplejoe Why does melanin have to do with it?? and Why do people always have to pull race into it.. Maybe he was referring to age or the number of injuries Finn has had.. there was nothing said to lead you to believe it was a race thing besides your own bias!! As far as Brookinng losing a step, he has, its inevitable, and the reason that he has so many tackles is not simply because of talen but because teams target him because of that lost step!! The most tackles isnt always a good thing. I guarantee you Dre Bly has more tackles than Champ, and now you know why!!

You probably never touched the field, except to pass out H20!! LOL

I have a question for all of you football geniuses who get on ecery Falcons blog and start running down Brooking. Do all of you experts always know what the defensive call was for the play where you saw Brooking make a tackle 10 yards downfield? Do you know whether he was a “step slow”, or whether he did his assignment on the play, and then pursues downfield and makes a tackle to cover for someone else who got blocked? My guess is most of you don’t have a clue what anyone’s assignment was on any given play…you just see the end of it on tv and make assumptions. There are also a few of you who are bulldoggy fans, and it bothers you that the Falcons have a 5 time pro-bowler from GT, and one clip board carrying career 3rd string QB from UGA (token UGA player on the roster). Do any of you Brooking critics ever wonder how he continues to fool the Falcons coaching staff into believing he is a quality LB and the leader of the defense? I guess not.

MV7 POST INTERVIEW
————VICK EXCLUSIVE—————-
Q: HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE SUPPORT YOU RECEIVED FROM ATLANTA?
A: It was no surprise - I knew who my loyal fans were and they definitely didn’t have “blue eyes” and I think you know what I mean.
Q: DO YOU WANT TO RETURN TO ATL?
A: HELL NO! I have many goals but when I was locked up, I thought everyday how I am going to return to the NFL and when I return to the Dome on the visitor’s sides, I’m going to destroy this team like they have never imagined. If they thought I ran too much before, I’m going RUN-RUN-RUN and they will have no answer. Who the hell do they have to stop me - Big Grady? Please!
Q: WHO DO YOU WANT TO PLAY FOR?
A: Somebody in the NFC South. I want to crush their dreams twice a year!
Q: WHAT DO YOU THINK OF RYAN REPLACING YOU?
A: What? Replace me? Give me a break! If I had Turner Burner instead of Uncle Tom Dunn - I’d look good too.

I was in no way referring to race with my comment about Finneran. The fact is, Finneran was fighting for a spot in training camp and narrowly won a spot. As it stands now, if and when Robinson comes back from injury, he is going to have a hard time replacing Finneran in offensive reps. Finneran has established himself, again, as a reliable 3rd down possession receiver. End of story!

I don’t see a long future for Laurent Robinson in Atlanta. Mike Smith seems to be one of those guys that if you miss four games with a sprained ankle, you will barely play for four games after the ankle is well. Then, he will jettison that player, because he wants players that play hurt. That’s why Abraham is saying he will go against San Diego. Its really why football players get huge contracts. I mean they get more than someone working on an assembly line at either GM or Ford!
All the talk about Brooking is nothing more than GaTech hating. It gets tiresome scrolling past anything that had “56” or “Hwy” or “Brooking” typed in it. Mike Smith is a fairly astute guy. When he sees Keith Brooking playing like he should be hooked up to an recliner in front of a television, only able to watch football and complain, I’m sure he will tell Brooking, “Its time to retire big guy. Let’s go out with a bang.” I’m sure he’s not playing Brooking because he’s been here so long and the fans love him. Some have said he makes tackles 8 yards downfield and jumps on at the end to get his numbers up. Well, I’ve watched way too many Atlanta Falcon games in my history where the defensive players looked like they didn’t want to soil their pretty dresses, by playing touchy pretend flag football, letting some no-name running back or hack receiver cross the line and then run 56 yards for another TD. Eight yards downfield is a godsend. I prefer them stopped somewhere between the zeros.
Brooking was also a major step towards repairing the idiotic drafting policies of the Atlanta Falcons, under the Smiths. Their policy was, “Iffin it came outta Georgia Tech, it ain’t playin here.” Pat Swilling wanted to be drafted by the Falcons, but was forced to be a Saint, which made him so mad he destroyed the Falcons every time he played them. Meanwhile, the Birds took “I can’t do anything unless my wifey says its okay, because she’s going to be a doctor” Tony Casillas, and Tim “I’d rather write books and do color analysis on TV, than be a Falcon” Green. Brooking is getting the organization right with God. Dealt with it.
Don’t forget: A root for the Bulldogs Saturday is a root against the Falcons Sunday.

What a great year. I can actually see the Falcons making the Super Bowl. They just have to take care of business with these next five games and win at least four of them (if they do, and one of the wins is the Tampa game, they should win the division. Think about it:
@ San Diego @ New Orleans Tampa @ Minnesota St. Louis
all the games are “winnable.”
Carolina:
@ Green Bay Tampa Denver @ Giants @ New Orleans
I think they will lose three of these games.
Tampa:
New Orleans @ Carolina @ Atlanta (we’re gonna destroy them) San Diego Oakland
So, the division, let alone a wild-card berth, is very possible if, again, the Falcons take care of business.

Where Brooking went to College? This is not college. This is real football where current production is the name of the game. At one time Brooking was a high quality player. Whether you still love him or not, his cap # says this is the last go round. Also, and I really couldn’t care less that the winner of “the big game” goes to some second rate bowl for also-rans, your argument of rooting for UGA is rooting against the Falcons is actually equally as absurd as any of the mindless blather churned out by VS2. To all the Brooking lovers, did any of you see how slow and uncoordinated he looked on the Jake Delhomme touchdown run Sunday? That one play says it all!!! My 18-month old daughter has better change of direction ability than that.

Everyone loves a fool. I look forward to your pitifully ridiculous commentary which shows the depth (shallowness) of your I.Q. I love that fact that you scream racism as the cause for your troubles yet can’t seem to go 5 seconds without displaying your hatred for non blacks and those black people who have a sense of decency and respect for societal norms. I so enjoy the vision of your pathetic little life of misery and failure where your only outlet and sense of satisfaction is to scream under a pseudonym which will never truly satisfy your frustration. So it is for this reason that you get my attention. I revel in your vapid stupidity and your hatred. Better than the any TV exec could ever hope from a sitcom. So by all means, I surely hope you are not censored. Oh, and MV7 is STILL in prison, and STILL not in the NFL. Have a nice day :)

Like an unchecked cancer, hate corrodes the personality and eats away its vital unity. Hate destroys a man’s sense of values and his objectivity. It causes him to describe the beautiful as ugly and the ugly as beautiful, and to confuse the true with the false and the false with the true. Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity. We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools. -Some smart feller

Orlando Ledbetter,
Just discontinue the blog abilities when VICKSUPPORTER2 posts the same meaningless post. Write and article, make it blogable, then make it not blogable when he pops up. I don’t think any Constitutional rights will be violated. We can always go back to handwriting letters to the editor about what we think; but then if we had to go that route, VICKSUPPORTER 2 wouldn’t be able to post more than one or two of the same letter, due to the high cost of stamps these days.
But, if you find out how to selectively delete some posts, add “who cares” to the Banned List. She’s mean and says bad things.

VickSupporterUnbiasedBlogger2 doesn’t realize that “inflammatory” speech is not protected. I think it would be fun to see what kind of high powered attorney he could come up with to challenge this. Since he is a 60 year old man with a lifetime of failure and misery behind him I am sure he is so well beaten down by a life of proven inadequacy that he would not be able to legitimately present a case that any sane attorney would take, even on contingency and we all know he could never actually afford to pay for legal services, from whatever state he now resides in since he left here long ago due to the racism he sees in all things and running and festering in misery is were he is most comfortable. Of course the allure of a fast buck would get him very excited as he has never been able to find any self created success in this world. However, inevitably he would come to the conclusion that he has been a loser in all his life and any law suit would just further this inevitable fact. Maybe he can create his own blog and we can all come visit him and help to reinforce that he is a buffoon since this is obviously something he both enjoys and needs to be reminded of constantly. In this way he can use this as another excuse for a meaningless, pitiful, worthless, insignificant and failed existence. Now I know I am having a nice day - how about you? :)

ALL-
First, I am a Dawg [fan] AND I have pulled for Brooking since his start. Just wanted you to understand that Dawgs can and will pull for Techies, if they are on our Falcons.
Second, Ledbetter HAS EVERY RIGHT to ban whomever he sees fit. FREEDOM OF SPEECH, in the context folks are using it here, only refers to government institutions, facilities, employers, property, etc. For example - your [private] employer can ask you not to cuss at work. You could respond by telling him/her to F**k off! You could then be fired. You do not have the FREEDOM of SPEECH to say whatever you want whenever you want, if you are employed by someone else. Same thing here. Now, if you were on the steps of the county courthouse and wanted to respond to this blog by SPEAKING out loud, then you would be covered. But by all means corporations have the right to censor all things they own and/or have control over. Think about how many times you have seen the disclaimer that comments after articles are read (censored) and will only be posted after having been reviewed?
Third, to answer the poster question regarding who have the Falcons had in recent memory, at receiver, with talent, who was over 6 ft, well, howabout the aforementioned Finn?
Lastly, what is really your issue MV supporter? Do you feel that Vick was somehow wronged? Honestly, you see no problem with raising dogs to fight and then killing them after wards? Nothing wrong with that at all? If not, well then I guess we really can’t continue this conversation for one of us has a problem with his moral compass - AND ITS NOT ME!
Have a Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Bulldawg
P.S. - Some of ya’ll need to learn to use punctuation. Your run-on diatribes make you look unintelligent. You’ve got to ask yourself in that situation if the shoe fits. If not, then write like you possess just a tad of intelligence.

From reading the article about Roddy White, where he admitted he was not really trying - too hooked on the celebrity of being in the NFL to focus on making himself star - it sounded like the Bret Favre story somewhat.
Bret admitted that he might not have ever become what he did become, had it not been for the slap in the face being traded by the Falcons was. He had drug and alcohol issues, related to being caught up in the celebrity of being in the NFL. It sounded like Roddy “saw the light” without being traded. Hopefully, he will be one of those Falcons we always remember with a smile, 10 years from now and beyond.

You’re right, D-Led, injuries have hit the Birds this year, Hartsock being the latest. Big Sam, Thomas Brown, D Johnson, and I’m sure I’m leaving several off the list.
Having said that, the Falcons keep on playing sharp and seem to not miss a beat. That speaks to the “System” and the “Process” and that starts at the top.

Bulldawg,
I told people the same thing a few weeks ago. It makes you a little sad for the state of the country when our citizens don’t understand what “freedom of speech” even means, doesn’t it? Nothing that the AJC does could even possibly violate your right to free speech. The Bill of Rights, for the most part, and certainly in the context of free speech, is about things that the government can’t do, not individuals or corporations.

Vick Supporter 2…Have fun supporting ex-con Vick on whatever team is stupid enough to trade for him. The Falcons still own his rights, and I think Blank needs to get something for all of the BS he had to put up with on his monumental $100 million mistake.
Do I hold animosity towards Vick…YES, NO DOUBT. I hope one day he strays into a yard of viscous dogs and gets ripped to shreds. He sucks as a human being and is a pathological liar. Good reddens, but I want to get some picks for all the crap he put this team through or he can rot on the suspended/inactive list for life.
But I digress…Michael Turner is a huge part of the puzzle, but Matt Ryan is lighting it up as a rookie QB and is being touted as maybe one of the best rookie QBs to EVER don an NFL jersey.
It’s every move made during the off season: Blank’s hiring of Dimitroff, Dimitroff’s hiring of Smith, Smith’s hiring of SOLID coordinators and assistant coaches, free agency moves, draft picks, moving as far away from THUG U, VT, me, me, me players as possible.
This is a team with a TRUE TEAM CONCEPT that will dominate the NFL for decades to come. As a long suffering fan (since 1974), it is LONG OVERDUE.

Milloy is two years older at 35 but I don’t see him being hated on as being “a step slower”, etc. Not to mention Grady Jackson at 35 as well. Somehow they haven’t “peaked”. Since my brother Brooking is the only Causcasian American on the defense I have my suspicions as to why he gets trashed. Hell, Brett Favre has “peaked” but he’s having a pretty good year. As to when I peaked (and your pathetic, childish attempts at insults), it was probably sometime after I graduated law school and built a successful law practice and raised two wonderful children. As for you, I suggest you get off this forum and get back to your job at Walmart…its the holiday shopping season and they desparately need you. P.S. I did play H.S. football and my athletic career “peaked” right after that….didn’t have to wait until 33 like Brooking! LOL. Oh, and good luck on waiting for Jamal Anderson to “peak” at any age.

BACK TO THE POINT OF THE ARTICLE:
I am actually celebrating the re-signing of Jenkins and who would have thought that 2 years ago? I’m also looking forward to what’s developing between Ryan, White, Jenkins and Douglas. I’m not disregarding the efforts of Finn. It speaks volumes about him that he was able to get back in the lineup. He keeps making himself indespensible.

Crabapplejoe, I am die-hard GT and Falcons fan. I have a Brooking jersey. And I will be the first to admit that he is much slower (at least laterally) than in the past.
Grady can lose a step; his only real job is to take 1 and clog up the middle. Milloy’s situation is a little different than Brooking’s in that a) he’s been making plays and b) he’s far enough off the ball to be able to react, and he’s usually where he needs to be anyway.
Too many times this season I’ve seen Brooking get exploited on runs around the end, and he’s darn lucky Steve Smith dropped that ball in the end zone on Brooking’s busted coverage.
Love the guy. Hate to see him go. But he’s no longer a starting LB in this league, in my humble opinion.

Tron500 wrote: “he’s darn lucky Steve Smith dropped that ball in the end zone on Brooking’s busted coverage” I’d say that if the Falcon’s have an aging OLB covering one of the premier outside receivers in the league we may have a problem with the game plan. Perhaps it was a breakdown in coverage by one of the DBs and Brooking just happened to be the closest Falcon at the end of the play. What do you think? I’m sure Keith appreciates the support of his “fans” like you. I agree let’s just cut him now and see who replaces his fourth leading number of tackles on the team…and definitely keep that other OLB who has 9 less tackles. Makes since to me.
By Tron5000
November 26, 2008 8:04 PM | Link to this
Hey, sometimes depending on your coverage, a LB has to cover a slot receiver. I don’t have a problem with the scheme, if it were a quicker LB on Smith. But sometimes you call the play and your coverage is dictated by what the O gives you.
By Tron5000
November 26, 2008 8:09 PM | Link to this
And crabapplejoe, I’m not advocating Wire as the starting OLB instead of Brooking. I think we need to go with a guy who can move sideline to sideline. I don’t think Brooking should be cut; I just think his starting job should be taken over by someone with more lateral mobility and perhaps you bring Brook in for situational plays.

Keith Brooking! Yes he was a productive Line Backer. However, he has lost a step in which everyone does. For the ones saying, he has more tackles than boley, they are down field. He plays the strong side line backer but is very weak. I think the falcons should work in nichols a little more. i think he has a upside to him. 50 (Lofton) is a beast. I see Singletary Jr.

Hey Ledbetter, go ahead and kick VS2 off. I could care less what he has to say. Doesn’t bother me at all. I think it’s actually funny how he puppets alot of responses. I don’t get how some of you can’t see the big picture. He’s MAD. And other than the obvious reason it’s also because he hoped the Falcons would suck this year so Ryan could be called less than Vick. The Falcons are destoying the odds and Ryan is getting all the praise. That just SUCKS for VS2. The season is going great and Ryan will be the new toast of the town. VS2 knows it. He knows Ryan is doing good, but all he has to do is write how Ryan is a bust and sit back and laugh at all the fan mail. He feels like the puppet master and unfortunately I have to agree. Like I said I think it’s funny how some you just get flipped! HOWEVER what is worse? People like boxer99 calling VS2 the “N” word or VS2 calling Ryan a bust? Just wondering. If your going to boot one then boot the other. SERIOUSLY which one is worse?

Great move on the part of Dimitroff to keep continuity on offense by resigning Jenkins. The Babineaux extension was also a move that was savy in that it ties up a player who has proven that he fits into the type of system that our GM is importing from his previous employer in New England. What we are witnessing in Atlanta is something that we haven’t been privy to before—and I don’t make that statement lightly. We have had winning teams before(I have been a fan from the franchises inception in 66) but the difference between those teams and this team is the organization behind the on-field product. The current incarnation of the Atlanta Falcons that we will be cheering for is being constructed to LAST. I believe that the foundation for lasting success is being realized before our very eyes. This organization will continue to effectively compliment the current roster through the draft and free agency because we finally have a front office who can access talent and a coaching staff to bring that talent to realization. It’s about time. GO FALCONS!!!!!

Hi again everyone. I am the true Vick Supporter 2! I’m gay…and I’m actually white. I just wish I was like Mike Vick because there is so many problems with my “wiring upstairs”…he seems like the PERFECT ROLE MODEL. I’m dumb in every sense of the wrod (misspelled on purpose). I would say that I have no life but that would be false. I’m 36 y/o and I live with my mom, in her basement, so I tell all my internet loves that I have my own place. However, I spend my day tossing off to MV7 pictures on the internet. There is truly nothing on this earth, believe me bloggers, than tossing off to MV7 pictures in my basement. It makes life worth living!!!!!

MIKE VICK THE BEST QB ATL WILL EVER HAVE. HE TOOK A TEAM WITH BASICALLY NO LINE OR RECIEVERS OR COACH FAR IN THE PLAYOFFS. BUT I LIKE MATT RYAN HE IS VERY SMART FOR A ROOKIE BUT HE ALSO IS BENEFITING FROM A VERY GOOD OFFENSIVE SCHEME UNLIKE MIKE VICK. I FEEL LIKE ATL SHOULD ADD A TRUE NUMBER 1 BCAUSE RODDY WHITE IS NOT AND ALSO WE NEED A TIGHTEND WHO KAN STRECTH THE FIELD BUT I HEAR A LOT OF MIKE VICK BASHING ON HERE AND I DONT LIKE IT IT UN FAIR HIS RECEIVERS DROPED ALOT OF PASSES IN HIS STAY WITH ATLANTA AND ALSO GREG KNAPP IS THE WORST OFFENSIVE CORDINATOR EVER I FELL LIKE WHEN HE GET OUT OF JAIL HE STILL KAN WIN A SUPERBOWL. ONE MORE THING, HOWCOME KEITH BROOKING IS STILL A FALCON,He MAKES NO PLAYS AND HOW LONG SAM BAKER WILL BE OUt

How did we get from wide receivers to former QBs? Here’s my recommendation: TM writes a blog a week about MV7. Then everyone that wants to can post love/dismay/anger/absolution/other feelings about a good player in the NFL who could have redefined the position (or at least the defenses.)
I cheered for MV7, then choked when I read the indictment. I can separate the two in my mind. For example, VA Governor Kaine was out of line saying that he should never be allowed to play in the NFL again. That’s not his call; that belongs to the guy that just reinstated Pacman (Goodell.)
I will not mention MV7 again and would appreciate it if every blog didn’t devolve into a verbal knife fight. There’s only five weeks left; I’m ready for some FOOTBALL.

SO YOU MEAN TO TELL ME THAT THE GREAT MIKE VICK GOT A SUPER GRAND TOTAL OF
-2 VOTES FOR THE MVP??????????? from2002 to 2005???????? 2 WHOLE VOTES???? OH YEAH THATS RIGHT HE WAS GETTING BEAT OUT BY POCKET PASSING QB’s WHO WERE SETTING RECORDS
-EVEN DERRICK BROOKS A LB GOT HALF AS MANY VOTES AS THE GREAT MIKE VICK!!!
If there was an MVP award for choking in the 2005 and 2006 seasons for tying to lead his team to the playoffs the MIKE VICK WOULD HAVE GOT MORE THAN 1 VOTE FOR THAT AWARD!!!!!
-MIKE VICK-NOT THE BEST THING SMOKING….MIKE VICK THE BEST THING CHOKING!!!!!!!
INTER VIEW WITHE MIKE VICK:
-Q. Mike-What happened down the stretch in 2005 and 2006 when you couldn’t carry your team to the playoffs?
-A. I don’t know I just choked. It’s my job to lead my team to the playoffs but Ijsut couldn’t beeat the Browns or the DETRIOT LIONS in back to back to weeks. I turned it over 6 times in 2 games.
-Q. What do you say about being the number 1 pick in the draft and never going to the Super Bowl
-A. It’s cool I still got my yards and my 2 votes for league MVP. I want to give a shout out to TERRANCE MOORE FOR MY 2 VOTES!!!
-Q. What is it like to lead the NFL in turnovers?
-A. It’s cool man. All around the world people love Mike Vick….No matter how many times I can’t lead my team to the super Bowl like Chris Chandler did people love Mike Vick. Shout out to Bad News Kennels WHAT WHAT!!!
-Q. WHat do you htink of Matt Ryan?
-A. Man once I finally get out of here I guesss I have to find me a new place to play QB in the league cause HE”S PRETTY FLY FOR A WHITE GUY.
Thats all for now more to come after we discuss MIKE VICK ONLY BEATING 7 TEAMS WITH WINNING RECORDS in his career, the Demarcus ware pick 6 and getting mushed to the ground, and trash detail.

It is quite clear the Brooking has lost a step, so let’s get that out of the way. Since Brooking is the longest tenured Falcons, of course he will be the one highlighted. Falcons’ fans are compelled to make a comparison of the current incarnation of Keith Brooking to his former contributions to our franchise.
What is the point of highlighting that Lawyer Milloy has lost a step from what he was in the past, when his previous “steps” were with the Pats and Bills? That’s the only reason we could get him anyway! It is asinine to suggest saying something about Brooking has something to do with race; he’s been our most celebrated Falcon over the long-term on defense. And to bring up Grady Jackson? Tsk tsk. Grady Jackson not only hasn’t been with the Falcons that long, but he hasn’t lost a step during his time here because he never had steps. He is a fatso to stuff the run, and will be until his knees give out.
Ray Lewis has lost a step with the Ravens. Walter Jones has lost a step with the Seahawks. Shaun Alexander lost multiple steps. These individuals have been the subject of many sports columns to that effect, because they were highly-celebrated members of their teams over the long-haul. Got nothin’ to do with race.
Crab, if you are telling the truth about being a successful lawyer, it just shows our economy needs a lot of work. Let’s end this practice of letting the doctors, lawyers, and financiers (arrghh) bleed and leech off the people who actually produce innovations, our engineers. If this happened, perhaps we would have built a sustainable society by now, instead of foreign-dependent, mortgage-swap madness. People like you and lawyers in general should not brag about making money through bureaucratic niche. Given your tendency to grossly oversimplify, I’m sure you are one crappy lawyer anyway.

Hey Ledbetter!
Shut it down, please. Pull the plug. Your blog lasted half a day, then turned into what they all turn into. Its like someone farting in an elevator. But then your blog wasn’t great enough to warrant more than a day’s worth of comments about signing receivers. Old news now. Write something new, but kill this thread. Ask Bradley how to do it.

James wrote: “doctors, lawyers, and financiers (arrghh) bleed and leech off the people who actually produce innovations, our engineers.” Not only do you have a basic lack of football knowledge, but your ignorance of how our society works is pathetic. Who do you think an engineer goes to in order to get his invention patented? Who does he go to when he gets sick with cancer? I understand you might be a little upset with your financial planner right now. But if you had the foresight to go all cash back in March like I did you wouldn’t be so upset. I am assuming that you have made enough money in life to actually have investments (which is very generous on my part). Now, back to football. Yes, I think it is a given that Ray Lewis, Lawyer Milloy and Keith Brooking have all “lost a step” but they make up for it with experience and smarts. Like webhead just posted, Dr. Z thinks Brooking is the smartest defensive player in the league. But the biggest difference is that nobody is calling for Ray Lewis or Lawyer Milloy to retire. Yet, Brooking gets beaten up on this forum constantly. I know why, and will continue to express my opinion about the anti-white bias.

Legend has it that hammering Hank Aaron was born to play baseball. Some hitters loathe pitchers that throw in the high nineties; but not so with Aaron. His thought processes were different. He believed that the harder a pitcher could throw a baseball, the farther/harder he could hit it. Likewise, there is a budding star in Atlanta that is a born quarterback and his thought processes are different. The evidence can be seen in his face as he approaches the line of scrimmage. Atlanta Falcons’ quarterback Matt Ryan has the look of an orthopedic surgeon traversing years of training in seconds to determine the procedures needed to correct an abnormality. That characterization doesn’t hold true for most NFL quarterbacks.
Are you ready for some football? Ryan approaches the line of scrimmage. He surveys the defense and the Falcons’ alignment. He’s checking off, “Blue 80…blue 80…wrong way- wrong way- hut-hut!” - And as simple as that, it’s first and ten at the Carolina forty-five yard line. Matt Ryan isn’t a made quarterback. The young man was born to play quarterback. There is a world of difference between the two… Did you check out our workmanlike offensive line? The left side is composed of white collar workers and blue collar workers are on the right side; an excellent mixture of talent and determination… Running behind them is real trouble. We have Ovie Mughelli leading through the hole followed by Michael the burner/banger Turner/Mercury Norwood. … And how about our bend but don’t break defense, especially in the first half? They yielded only three points to Carolina in two quarters of football. How about $Michael Jenkins, Harry Douglas, Jonathan Babineaux, and Chauncey Davis? Undoubtedly, the Atlanta Falcons’ orthodox football team made winning look easy against the division leader, Carolina Panthers, 45-28.
Our long flight path to Super Bowl XLIII is fraught with challenges; some major and others minor. But nevertheless, the long journey continues. Are you ready for the flight? OK, let’s ascend. The Atlanta Falcons took to the friendly skies, due west, toward Qualcomm Stadium to battle the San Diego Chargers. And while flying over the clouds to avoid inclement weather over Roswell New Mexico, they looked north into Colorado and observed narrow, back, and country roads which led to holding pens. Someone had corralled herds of wild horses and locked the gates… There was water, hay, and alfalfa everywhere. And there were burly men nearby adorned in silver and black. Out of curiosity, the Falcons considered turning north. But the Law Dog, Lawyer Milloy, who brings the element of “proceed with caution” to the secondary, laid down the law. He reminded the team of the twenty-four hour rule. And their minds were once again stayed on the next city and state, Phoenix Arizona. After Phoenix, San Diego California, Qualcomm Stadium. A surprise attack on the Chargers and another win on the road are now seconds away. Prepare to descend everyone! …T minus ten seconds and counting, 8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1-touchdown. …Falcons win, 31-21.

There is no doubt in my mind that Matt and the guys will practice. Matt has been doing that for many years. These Birds are professionals and will push harder to be better. The receivers all have an unique opportunity to become stars. They don’t come across as selfish and stupid.
Do you think Matt got here by luck? He has always put in more than what is asked for.
Signing them now is so positive on many levels. The Birds keep on doing the right things.

I am a VT fan living in Atlanta. I followed Michael (and Marcus) Vick throughout their entire careers. I loved him as a player for my Hokies and for the Falcons. So I have no bias for disliking the man as a human being other than his actions towards animals. Everyone is entiled to a second chance, but that doesn’t mean punishment should be absolved. He deserves to serve his sentence and be released when his time is done, and I wish him well when he returns to ordinary life. But…I will never look at him in a positive light again. It has nothing to do with race, nor how much money he made. It is soley on the decisions that he himself made.
We live by the decisions we make and the company that we keep, and there are a few decisions in a lifetime that will define us. What he did will define him. Again, that doesn’t mean he can not change (and I hope he does), but what he did just does not go away, just as it wouldn’t if I myself did the same.
Here is to hoping that through his actions, many people saw that illegal and illicit activities are not worth the lifestyle that can become of it.
