Impressed with “The Process?”
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Richmond, Va. - Been scrambling since the Falcons stunning victory over the Carolina Panthers. It was a true old fashioned “Smackdown” by WWF standards.
Had to get to Virginia for Michael Vick’s state trial plea hearing. His state case should be over in the next 24 hours.
Seems like Coach Mike Smith really, really, really likes to talk about “The Process.”
So let’s talk about “The Process”
The Falcons are sitting at 7-4 and right in the thick of the NFC playoff race.
If we hear Smithy correctly, then it’s all about “The Process.”
The Process of building a team correctly.
The Process of winning with a rookie quarterback, when no other rebuilding team has been able to do so.
The Process of giving up a ton of passing yards, but not enough touchdowns to keep you from winning.
The Process of Harry Douglas showing everybody what a punt returner and slot receiver looks like.
The Process of not throwing a fade route on the 1-yard line.
Well, are you happy with The Process? Will The Process lead to a playoff berth? The hard luck San Diego Super Chargers have dropped four games in the final 24 seconds this year, will The Process keep them down?
One thing is certain, it’s all about The Process.

Yes, very impressed thus far. This is what I thought we would see last year with Putrid-ino. With Mike Smith though, you can see the learning week by week. Take last week for instance, the Falcons came out flat and may have begun to believe all the hype, thinking they could just show up and win. This week, they came out hungry!! In Carolina, we played flat and scared, but here in Atlanta we came out with fire.

PROcess. PROgress. PROfessional Football. They all require pros and we seem to have acquired or “coached them up.”
Personally, I’ll take as much HD/HiDef, I mean, Harry Douglas as the offense can “procedure” down the field. Lofton and Chevis are defintely rookies I’m glad we “processed.”
Happy Thanksgiving, fellow Falcons fans; look at the relative bounty of wins to what was predicted.

Orlando, take a lesson from Dave O’Brien and police this blog if you want to have some credibility.
Or, just sit on your thumbs and let pukes ruin a blog that could be something special.

Let me get it out of the way for “Stendec”….“its all Keith ‘no tackle’ Brooking’s fault that we won the game…he missed every tackle (even though he was the second leading tackler yesterday, statistics lie)…he’s a slow white guy that’s lost a step…even though he has a zillion more tackles than first round bust Jamal Anderson I will never speak ill of Jamal because its all Keith ‘no tackle’ Brooking’s fault. P.S. Don’t quote me those damn tackling stats again cause I watched the game.”

I agree with crabapplejoe. Brooking seems to get caught up on his blocks a lot and get garbage tackles where he’s wrapping up someone else’s hard work. He’s not awful, just maybe the weak link on D.

Agreed, TURTSNAP; I thought Petrino was gonna produce similar results as well. I also admit to thinking we should draft Dorsey and then Flacco or Henne in the 2nd round. Good thing we’ve got a GM that knows more than we do finally; McKay might’ve gone Billy Knight on us and instead the worst player we drafted was Thomas DeCoud who wasn’t that bad. This is turning into a professional franchise.

I still think the fade pass was a good call on 3rd down on the goal line. I do love to fool a defense-like a run up middle on 3rd and 10 or a sweep to the short side of the field. See, they don’t think anybody would be dumb enough to call these plays but I fool ‘em.

Four questions for you Mr. Ledbetter:
Do you have any inside info as to when, or if, Sam Baker will be back this season?
If Grady is suspended four games, is the Parker kid they signed to the practice squad good enough to fill in?
Do you agree that Brooking is not getting the job done?
Why have the Falcons not compiled a tape of all the choke-holds on Abe with no flags being thrown — and sent it to the NFL for clarification? This has to have contributied to his injuries.

The future is bright and this process is THE reason. Kudos to Coach Mike Smith, his staff, Dimitroff, and Blank for putting the right guys in the best position possible to get this franchise back on track. It took them a little while to finally cut Adam Jennings loose and give Douglass a shot, but rather late than never. This is a TEAM now. All I can think about now is how terrible last season was, all the jokes from friends and sportstalk radio, and now what a 180 this team has made. Simply beautiful. And oh yeah, big ups for beating the snot out of the always over-hyped “they’re going to the superbowl this year!” media darling team I luv to hate most- them Carolina Puddytats! Someone please tell Steve Smith to get over himself and Jacqueline Delhommes to stop crying all the time…LOL

“The Process” is legitimacy. From the top to the bottom and back to the top. An owner who will spend. A GM who knows talent. A coaching staff that knows how to coach and motivate players. And players going out there giving all the have and then some. Heck I think even Vince Lombardi would like what he sees in the Falcons ( but he would still try to find a way to make them better).

I’m THRILLED with the Process… the Falcons should package it and sell it to the Thrashers and Braves (& UGA/Tech basketball). I think the NFL is screwing around with this weight-lost drug issue. Seems to be pretty clear that the players were not attempting to game/cheat the system. I’d be ticked off if any of the players get more than a 1 game suspension.
Tough 4 games lie ahecd, let’s stay true to the Process.

Hey Y’all:
The process. Yeah, let’s talk about the process. The process I see with the falcons is a young and veteran team coming together with a new management, coaches, and players. This process has the the players buying into what the coaches are teaching which is paramount towards having a winning team. This process is dealing with the players that you have and making them overachievers and stars through TEAMWORK. The word TEAMWORK “Together Everyone Achieves More (TEAM)”. This process is the ultimate for the Falcons and what they have gone through these last 2 years with some silly immature coaches who were selfish and attemmpted to ruin some players careers like Grady Jackon. I am glaad theu are gone. This process consist of Coach Mike Smith and his staff realizing that they are sitting on a goal mine of young and old talent that they can work with to win more than enough games this season. The are going to take team to the “WOOD SHACK” with this talent. This process is the fans and the community feeling and caring about the Falcon organization and Arthur Blank for his loyalty to his players and the community. The man got balls even for his outcast players. You got to respect that. The procees is the Falcons shocking everyone and getting to the playoff and scaring the hell out of everbody with their stellar play with “ONE HEARTBEAT!!!” Man, this thing has just started. Therefore, all you guys better get on with the process of our team being continual champs. I know you were never used to it, but its here and this is what it starts to feel like. Enjoy the ride. I am more than confident the management, the coaches and the players know what this is about. This process will be done with “ONE HEARTBEAT!!! : The owners, management, the coaches, the players, the fans, the local media uniting to ensure that we have winning enjoyable football in Atlanta. We do this together with “ONE HEARTBEAT!!!”. We are a TEAM. ANd the results and process of TEAMWORK is showing in our wins. Therefore, lets enjoy the football process. Let’s stick behaind our team and players and enjoy each other at the games. Hey, I waiting for the FAlcons to print some T-Shirts, sweatshirts and jerseys with a large heart with the Falcon logo in the center saying “ONE HEARTBEAT!!!! or “ONE HEARTBEAT, BABY”. Let’ss shpow the NFL and the world the FAlCONS are our team. Located in our community. And we are invovlved in their succes and loving it. We love it with “ONE HEARTBEAT!!!”: Good aggressive, nasty, innovative, exciting football. We got and we love the process of scaring every team in the NFL when the Falcons hit the field. Believe me, the process is designed to make this team scarier and scarier to the opposition year after year. So if you think we got them scared now, you ain’t seen nothing yet. So get on board and enjoy aand help our team win with “ONE HEARTBEAT!!” We ain’t playing, y’all. And teams in the NFL know it. Enjoy the “PROCESS”.

As a Falcons fan from all the way back to the 1960s (yes, I’m middle aged), I’m stunned by how professional this team looks. Real NFL football has finally come to Atlanta. The only other eras that come close are parts of the Leeman Bennet and Dan Reeves eras.
I love the way Mike Smith and his staff operate (love that no nonsense, smack ‘em up side the head attitude. Ryan looks like a ten year veteran QB. Turner has to be the free agent steal of the century. The WRs are stepping up. The defense is (for the most part) stepping up. Please don’t pinch me and wake me up from this.
The Falcons might finally have a chance for some sustained success instead of just an occasional good season.

Agree with several of the posts above - what is really great about this Falcons team is that they are a TEAM. In the past, all we heard is about this player accepting his accolades or this player complaining about what his supposed team mates were not doing. Those players are gone. I don’t hear any of that anymore - even after a loss. They speak as a team and play as a team. No super stars. The press might try to make them so - but they resist. That is what a true team is made of.

I think Brooking had a pretty good game against Carolina. He stuffed DeAngelo Williams for 2 yard loss on one play, he was the first one there and tucked Williams under so that he could “fall” forward. Great play.
On another run he stopped Williams after a two yard gain, which was impressive because Brooking had dropped back 12 yards into coverage, read run, adjusted and made the stop.
Yeah, he mops up a lot, but usually he’s coming from the middle of the field to do it.
He’s had some games that make me wonder if he’s still got it and some that have just made me angry, but this game wasn’t one of them. I think he did get runover once, but it didn’t look nearly as bad as what Turner did to the “unstoppable” Julius Peppers.

VickSupporter2,
Sadly my friend your comments show your complete ignorance. Mike Vick was a great spark plug and potential role model gone bad. Never a great qb, but a fine athlete.
The falcons are not the standard for NFL success. One out of 3 divisional titles being won by a mobile qb for a franchise that generally wins as much as Duke football wins proves nothing.
Pull your head up and look around. McNabbs career was destroyed by injuries cuz he ran too much, randall cunningham exactly how many rings does he have? O yea thats right he had Cris Carter AND Randy Moss and loss to the falcons in the playoffs. Vince Young, is on his way to playing catch at the mental health facility because he lost his job to a old crusty washed up pocket passer.
Thats right my friend but I guess you know something that everyone high up in the NFL just doesn’t. Do you want to know why the falcons were never going to win a Superbowl under vick? 1. Well he made everyone around him (who wasn’t a running back) worse. 2. His best and most consistent season when we lost to the Eagles in the NFC championship was ended because he couldn’t stay healthy having taken to many foolish hits playing his game.
He lost to McNabb and McNabb lost the SB because he was hurt and lost from having taken to many stupid hits playing his game.
Mobile qbs NEVER win it all you have to pass first that is in the job description. Steve Young is the most mobile qb to win the award and run was nearly always his last read.
Vick is the finest example of flash in the pan running qbs. As a falcons fan I am overjoyed to be rid of him and now have a legit shot at continued success with a pocket passer. Less exciting to watch, but no doubt about it more consistent. At least now we have the most important piece of the puzzle to win a superbowl. Not just a ticket / jersey selling, dog-killing sideshow taking snaps.
PS. vick was in the top 3 players in turnovers per game over each of the full seasons he played. What a recipe for success.

Did anyone watch MNF last night? It looked like Drew Brees has figured out that the Saints offense is all about passing 60 times a game. It was like he realized, “Hey! If I can pass for 180 yards in one quarter (as he did against the Falcons in Atlanta), imagine what I could do if we used the same approach the whole game!” That my friends is an Arena Football mentality. We saw it when St. Louis had Warner. Its a 1.5 minute scoring drive philosophy. That is where some coaches are leading the NFL. If you are one of the teams with fast receivers, who have good hands that hold onto the football, and a quarterback that can avoid sacks and hit receivers, then you immediately take the other team away from any concept of ball-control, run and pass game plan. When that happens, scores will regularly be something like 72 - 58. Then, Mike Vick will be a complete has-been. Running quarterbacks are great when they are young, with young legs, but they have to be able to pass the ball effectively to hang around after the legs go.

Fran Tarkenton was a mobile quarterback that took his team to four Super Bowls. He could actually pass the football accurately; and he had great defensive teams to help him get to those Super Bowls. Still, he never won one. Mike Vick is a better running quarterback thah Fran, simply because Fran knew the benefit of being able to run was to buy time to throw. Its a lot easier to throw the ball thirty yards than to run thirty yards, then have to line up and be ready to get another 30 yards.

I love the progress. This will continue to get better & better. With one of the better drafts in recent memory (the giants had a great one the previous year) this past year & Dmitroff with another coming up. He will get (not in any particular order) more D-line help, a TE and a safty, along with some other things. Can you imagine this offense with a TE that can go down the seam (and catch), the field will open like the sea. The future is bright as this is a young team, minus the Lawyer. The falcons will be loaded in 2 years. This team plays hard, every play, never ever gives up. It is great to watch. I don’t care if they lose out the rest of the year, this team has exceded my expectations a long, long time ago!!! NICE

4 years/20 mil is an awful lot for Jenkins at this point. Yeah, he’s got the talent, but he’s still playing softer than he should more often than not. He’s getting better and he has upside, but still…I wonder if that’s just Blank sending a message to potential free agents that he’s still willing to sling plenty of cash around? I wouldn’t be surprised. Or just a carrot to the team to keep good will and chemistry going. I still think his continued support of Vick has a lot to do with the fact that the sooner Vick gets back to the NFL and gets a job the sooner we can get some cash back out of him and a pick or two.

People like boxer btchmade99 I imagine start slamming $ht, breaking everything in sight. Then yells at his kids for crying, slaps his wife and tells her to shut the fk up because he doesn’t care if it’s just a stupid @ss comment. Way to break up your fking family you American Hero you. LOOK UP at what Vick Supporter 2 is saying now! Why in the hell is he saying that might you be asking? I’ll tell you what, the next time you have to take a leak, before you go to squat, look in the mother f**king mirror! LMFAO!!!

Interesting, Najeh. And depressing. I, for one don’t feel any different toward white or black athletes in trouble with the law. I just feel that the NFL should be felon free. Why? Because they are role models for young children. We should be concerned that the lesson children learn here (both black and white) is “you reap what you sew”. Too much emphasis is placed on the tenant that “it’s only wrong if you get caught” in all levels of the entertainment world, and if we want our children to learn from this, we need to stop tolerating it.
We also need to emphasize that when you do wrong, it’s not someone elses fault. That article told me that too much of our fan base thinks that Vicks downfall was the Falcons fault, when actually the Falcons downfall was Vicks fault.
The little ones are watching. They need us to show them that you don’t get rewarded for doing wrong.

I’m neither black nor white, so although I appreciate Vick’s talent I don’t necessarily identify with him as a person or idolize him the way some of the people quoted in that article apparently do. I did get the same feeling as you that a lot of people think Vick’s problems were caused by someone other than himself. As much of a Vick fan as I still am, I’ve never denied that he’s a complete idiot for the situation he got himself into.
I don’t have kids so I can’t really relate to your point of view… it wasn’t too long ago that I was a kid myself, and although I was a fan of many different famous people as a kid — some with questionable backgrounds (many rappers included) — I never felt the urge to idolize them or imitate what they did. But I’ve heard many people make the same case as you, so I can respect that.

INSECURITIES
WHEN YOUR PRIDE, MORALS & SPIRIT IS GONE YOU BECOME LIKE MOST OF THE NON-VICK FANS ARE.
YOU ACCEPT MEDIOCRICY AND CONVINCE YOURSELF THAT YOU ARE A GOOD TEAM HEADED IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION, BUT YOU ARE BLIND AND FOOLING YOURSELF.
EVERYONE IS SO HAPPY WITH A QB WHO ON ANY OTHER TEAM WOULD BE NOTHING MORE THAN A THIRD STRING BENCH WARMER.
ART BLANK HAS PLAYED ALL OF YOU. HE HAS NOT PUT A PLAYOFF TEAM TOGETHER, HE HAS BASICALLY SPENT A FEW DOLLARS TO WIN A FEW GAMES, BUT THIS TEAM IS NOT DESIGNED TO GO ANY FURTHER THAN THAT, JUST TO MAKE IT LOOK LIKE HE IS TRYING TO GET A WINNER.
ART BLANKS SAYS ONE THING, BUT HE STILL CAN’T VERBALLY SAY HE WILL RELEASE VICK. HE PLAYS BOTH SIDES OF THE FIDDLE - SUPPORTING BOTH SIDES OF THE FAN BASE.
HE DOESN’T WANT TO UPSET THE ANTI-VICK FANS BY SAYING HE WANTS VICK BACK, BUT AT THE SAME TIME HE REFUSES TO SAY VICK WILL BE RELEASED. INSTEAD HE SAYS THINGS LIKE WE ARE MOVING ON.
MOVING ON? THAT’S A FANCY WAY OF SAYING, WE ARE PLAYING WITHOUT HIM BUT…..LEAVING THAT ONE FOOT IN THE DOOR.
THIS CITY WILL FOREVER BE DIVIDED AND WILL NEVER WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP BECAUSE THE CITY IS AFRAID OF SUCCESS. THEY ARE MORE CONCERNED ABOUT BRINGING DIXIE BACK TO THE SOUTH AND LET THE SOUTH RISE AGAIN.
DOG FIGHTING WAS ACTUALLY THE BEST THING THAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED TO MV7, BECAUSE IT FORCED HIM TO TAKE THAT NEXT STEP WITH A NEW TEAM AND MOTIVATE HIM TO RETURN WITH A MAJOR ATTITUDE, AND YOU CAN CALL HIM A RUNNING BACK ALL YOU LIKE, BUT HE WON MORE GAMES THAN ANY OTHER QB SINCE STEVE BARTKOWSKI BACK OVER 25 YEARS AGO.
IF HE CAN DO THAT AS A RUNNING BACK, HOW PATHETIC DOES IT MAKE THE SO CALLED QBS LOOK THAT NEVER EVEN WON A DIVIONAL TITLE.
THIS TOWN IS PATHETIC AND YOU REDNECKS NEED TO WAKE UP, BECAUSE YOU ARE NOT THE MAJORITY ANYMORE - DEAL WITH IT :)

You just think of us as the “majority” because we invent everything and create the civilizations that you flock to and sponge off of. No big deal…been going on for centuries. Arthur loves what’s going on with Matty Ice and will never bring King Thug back. If you thug wanna be’s don’t want to come to the Dome because of that it will be a better place for everyone else. Whites are about 6% of the world population. Blacks are about 13% of the US population.
According to the USDOJ: At midyear 2007 there were 4,618 black male sentenced prisoners per 100,000 black males in the United States, compared to 1,747 Hispanic male sentenced prisoners per 100,000 Hispanic males and 773 white male sentenced prisoners per 100,000 white males.

DEARVICKSUPPORTERS-You made the following statement: “MOBILE QBS NEVER WIN IT ALL YOU HAVE TO PASS FIRST THAT IS IN THE JOB DESCRIPTION”. Don’t get so carried away with trying to prove a point that you prove you don’t know what you’re talking about. There have been mobile QB’s that have won it all. What about Roger Staubach, John Elway, Joe Montana and Joe Kapp, in addition to Steve Young? Are you saying they never won a Superbowl?
By Dr. Warren

Joe Kapp never won a Super Bowl. He lost Super Bowl IV to the Chiefs, 23 to 7.

-I am saying run first QB’s. There is a difference in being Mobile….and being a run first QB. There isn’t a single running QB with a super bowl ring. Mobil…yes…..runnning…no. Mike Vick was a running QB. No ring. Vince Young is a running QB…who is now 2nd string. ERic Crouch was a running QB-nevr made it. Scott Frost never made it
-Mobile QB’s are a great.
-Running QB’s are a passing fad.
-In college football right now put a list of the top 5-10 QB’s in the country together. If Pat white cracks that list for you as he does for me, thats it.
-The other 9 are pocket passers with mobility..some more mobile than others.
-In the NFL rank 5-10 QB’s and see if any of those are running QB’s or pocket passers.
-Will it ever happen??? Who knows??? It might. I ‘d bet that one day a running QB would win a ring….but only in the right system. Gregg Knapp had an offense for Vick. It didn’t work. I odn’t think anyone has the system or offense right now to put it all together. That is why you see the Wild Cat formation. OC’s are evolving.
-Just my opinion but the running QB is fading out, and we are seeing a return to the more conventional pocket passer. However we will see the Pocket Passer evolve into more of a mobile QB and not a statue of yester year.
I pretty much don’t know shi% though…it’s just my opinion

In 2006, when the Falcons beat the Steelers and the Bengals, was it not some of the most exciting QB play you’ve seen. Vick was making the proper reads, completing passes and scrambling all over the place. The Falcons offense was EXPLOSIVE and DC’s were btch slapping their assistants because they had NO defense for Vick. EVERYONE including Jaws from ESPN said it was the EVOLUTION of Michael Vick. Then the Falcons went flat against Detroit and Cleveland while Vick all of a sudden couldn’t make a bit of difference. That I believe is what frustated non-racist Falcon fans. It’s what frustrated me. If you could take Matt Ryans head and put it on Vicks body it would create THE worst nightmare for any DC. The ‘85 Bears or the ‘00 Ravens defense wouldn’t even stop him. I know it’s fantasy land thinking about it, but thats what everyone was hoping for. If Michael Vick could have ever learned the “Passing” side of the QB position he would have possibly been considered not only the best, but also the most exciting player to watch EVER. Imagine if Ryan could run the 40 in 4.3 seconds. And don’t tell me we don’t need Ryan to run the ball because while that may be true, it wouldn’t be a bad option to have. Just imagine if any QB as smart as our dear Matt Ryan is, could run the 40 in 4.3 seconds. Who wouldn’t want that. I know I’m talking like Captain Obvious here, but all I’m saying is that the combination of passing and scrambling makes any OC’s d*k hard. But I’ll admit if I had to choose one over the other I would choose “Passing” in a heartbeat.

MV7 POST INTERVIEW
————VICK EXCLUSIVE—————-
Q: HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE SUPPORT YOU RECEIVED FROM ATLANTA?
A: It was no surprise - I knew who my loyal fans were and they definitely didn’t have “blue eyes” and I think you know what I mean.
Q: DO YOU WANT TO RETURN TO ATL?
A: HELL NO! I have many goals but when I was locked up, I thought everyday how I am going to return to the NFL and when I return to the Dome on the visitor’s sides, I’m going to destroy this team like they have never imagined. If they thought I ran too much before, I’m going RUN-RUN-RUN and they will have no answer. Who the hell do they have to stop me - Big Grady? Please!
Q: WHO DO YOU WANT TO PLAY FOR?
A: Somebody in the NFC South. I want to crush their dreams twice a year!
Q: WHAT DO YOU THINK OF RYAN REPLACING YOU?
A: What? Replace me? Give me a break! If I had Turner Burner instead of Uncle Tom Dunn - I’d look good too.
