Where is Vick going to land in the NFL?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
My good friend Pat Yasinskas has a nice piece on ESPN.com with Falcons owner Arthur Blank repeating what he’s told former colleague Steve Wyche and columnist Jeff Schultz several times about the franchise moving on after Michael Vick’s incarceration.
The $73 million contract he bestowed on Matt Ryan closed that door. Now with Ryan’s fine play, Vick’s really in Blank’s rear view mirror.
However, Blank told Yasinskas that he’ll support for Vick’s return to the NFL… you know, just not in the ATL. That’s new stuff.
Vick’s technically still a Falcon, who’s indefinitely suspended. His path back to the NFL is littered with obstacles.
Vick will have to be released by the Falcons at some salary cap-friendly point. His salary situation, which is in a legal dispute, will have to be settled. The salary cap issue is huge as the Falcons will have 13 unrestricted free agents after this season.
The State charges in Virginia must be resolved via adjudication or plea agreement, with no additional jail time.
The final thing to happen would be clearance for NFL Commissioner Roger “The Sheriff” Goodell.
Vick’s projected released date is July 20, 2009 by the Federal Bureau of Prisons. If everything lines up right or there is an earlier released, he could be ready to hit the field next season.
Since the Falcons have already taken themselves out of the running, who are some of the teams that might be interested in Vick?
Look at the teams with major quarterback issues and then you have to determine if they’ll take the public relations risk in order to improve their team.
I’m watching the Detroit situation? Kitna’s about done there. The loyal fan base is hungry for a winner. They’ll finally have new management next season.
What about a Raiders reunion with offensive coordinator Greg Knapp? As long as Al Davis is alive anything can happen out there.
Where do you think Vick will land after he’s paid his debt to society?

I don’t care where he goes. I am glad that Blank told everyone he will never be back here. Now maybe some of these idiot bloggers (reality check) just got their reality check. I hope he gets another chance but I forsee a PR nightmare wherever he goes if he gets to play. I still wish the guy good luck. He will have paid his debt. Now, will you idiots quit wearing his jersey to the games? You really look foolish.

I don’t care where he “lands” as long as it is not in Atlanta. I agree(reluctantly)that he deserves yet another chance and there are Jerry Jones and Al Davis types that will give it to him. Hopefully, the Falcons can get a draft pick out of the deal but to get some leeway under the cap may have to do.

As a lifetime falcons fan, and vick fan, I agree with Blank completely. Matty Ice is our QB. I think Detroit is a good prediction for Vick. Question though for ledbetter, can we trade him? So, he does not end up on a team in our division. Tampa Bay needs a QB and Delhomme is not getting any younger.

For as much money as Vick has caused the Falcons to lose, and then not being able to pay back the cash he was fronted, he still owes Blank - big time. Vick was thought to be a man of honor, as far as debt repayment was concerned, with legitimate securities, and no pending convictions for dog abuse. Who knew he was just another ignorant graduate of a football university, unable to read or do simple arithmetic? Vick needs to be back in Atlanta, cleaning the parking lots, selling hot dogs, or just as a chained-up sideshow at an Arthur Blank run autograph booth (all autographs $5, with all procedes going to the “Free Mike Vick by paying his debt for him” fund). That is unless there is some team stupid enough to make good on all of Vick’s debt, before taking possession of that ‘pig in a poke’.
Blank needs to tell your blog buddies, “I’m sorry, I am no longer in the business of meddling in the affairs of my NFL franchise. As you know, I ran it into the ground, firing Dan Reeves to get Mike Vick paired up with a lackey coach. I have actually since hired a real GM to run the club. Perhaps Mr. Dimitroff and Smith could find a job letting Mike Vick return kickoffs and punts for a year or three.” Now that would be a smart thing for Arthur Blank to do. If Vick has any value as an NFL football player, the Atlanta Falcons should reap those benefits before anyone else gets a chance.

Hey Y’all:
“ONE HEART BEAT!!!!” “ONE HEARTBEAT, BABY!!” That’s the ATLANTA FALCONS.
We have to move on folks. Vick had his time here and a damn good time at that. I am sure he will always remember Atlanta and the fans who stood by him and owner Arthur Blank who belived in him. Vick knows he made a big mistake here with his back stabbing friends and relatives. They helped ruin his football career here in Atlanta. He knows that and I am more than confident Vick accepts his punishemnt and loss with no remorse to the atlanta community. I believe he knows and understands the unprofesional and embarrassing situation he go the falcons into in dealing with his off the field situation. Any responsible person would understand the feeling on both sides. Blank state his feeling honestly and direct: He wants Vick to play but it would not be right for him to return to Falcons. This decision is an organizational culture decision. It is not personal. However, Blank belives this is not the end of Vicks football career in the NFL. He also stated he would support him and be a reference for Vick to the NFL Commissioner for Vick’s reinstatement to the NFL. What a man. What great character Blank has. Even now he stands by players who lives he has touched. And Vick is one of them. Believe it or not, Blank is Vick’s father figure. I know it hurt hm to let Blank down. But now we must close the book on Vick playing in Atlanta as a Falcon. We will see him in the future playing for another team against us. But the Falcons will prevail in the interim and against any team in the NFL. We will play with “ONE HEARTBEAT!!!” We will win with “ONE HEARTBEAT!!!” No matter what player is on the other team. We are the Atlanta Falcons. We play as a team and as a football community with “ONE HEARTBEAT!!!”
SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! This is a SECRET from a FALCON FAN. TELL EVERBODY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love the one heartbeat stuff.
Yes, the Falcons can trade him, too. Didn’t consider that. But they’ve kind of hurt his trade value by saying that don’t want him.
But Tennessee was able to find somebody to take Adam “Pacman” Jones in a trade. So the short answer is YES they can trade the rights to Michael Vick.

I think Vick deserves another shot. DETROIT can give him that opportunity. I would like to see nothing but wins from Detroit and assuming Vick comes at a cheap price he would be a steal and an immense help to the Lions organization. I dont think especially with the lions that there will be a HUGE PR problem with the aqisiton of Vick only because considering the 0-5 start and who knows how awfull the finish will be fans desperately NEED a man to hail as our saviour!

Let’s focus on the team we have and are proud of. Let’s let Vick worry about Vick and stop bringing him up for the sake of bringing him up.
This team is doing a great job. Let’s respect them enough to focus our attention where it belongs; supporting the Falcons on the field, not the ghosts of the past. Let’s not talk of those who should not be named until there is reason to do so. Let’s stop creating reasons to bring people up for “news” sake.

President Obama will pardon Vick and commute any outstanding charges in Virginia. The commissioner will force Blank to trade him to Detroit, straight up, for someone like Calvin Johnson. The Lions fans will gladly support a 2 - 14 team for many years to come, as long as Vick is at the helm. That means a profitable NFL, with Detroit able to be sold on national television, because of Vick. Until then, Detroit is as dead as the economy, which is an anchor on the a* of Roger Goodell.

Well well well, for Falcons fans that “don’t give a sh!t” about Vick you sure do talk about him alot. Even the AJC can’t get enough of him. Like I’ve always said, I support Vick ON THE FIELD, and he is GREAT AT THAT, EVEN WHEN WITH NOTHING on his team. Vick will be back and he will redeem himself. I’m all for Vck getting a new start. I do wish it was here though because the falcons finally have a real coach and GM, and they are trying to do things right in atlanta now, which p** me offf that they’re a “team” now and they made Vick a one man show. they should have built around him like they’re doing for Ryan, but that over and done with. Hey Najeh Davenpoop,
I feel your pain bro! Living on welfare checks, food stamps, and individual marijuana cigarettes and crack cocain sales will make it seem like “de who whorl don gotz on yo shouldas”, but the reality is Mike Vick was paid money to make more money than he was paid. You are thinking the cotton plantation owner got his money’s worth when that really big, fast cotton picker ran off to catch the Underground Railroad. Problem is, freedom from slavery means getting chained to the responsibility of credit and living in a world where nothing is due you because something happened to your great great grandfather.

Then I let my dog chew on it. This statement would have been true, but I would have never owned a convick jersey in the first place.

YES Vick should have got a major fine, but nowhere near jail. Governor Sarah Palin has pictures of a slaughtered deer up all over the internet!!! YOU CAN NOT MURDER A DOG!
ANYWAYS… Vick should play for Oakland. The only reason he should is because he will probably stress Al Davis out so much that he will finally step down and the Raiders can begin their Reign of Running Back Terror!

It would be fitting that Vick go to the Raiders. He can hang with his buddy MeAngelo Hall.
I don’t care where Vick goes, he will never be the “real deal”, he’s just not smart enough. I remember seeing him in a preseason game when he was a rookie. I turned to the guy next to me and said, “What the hell is that guy running around like an idiot for? Look for a freakin’ reciever!” ..and things never changed over the next several season.
Sure he was exciting, but he’ll never take a team to the Super Bowl and THAT’S what it is all about.
Now Ryan…he is the real deal and the seats will start filling up again. The Vick era is gone and loooong forgotten.

The best team is the one who will give the most or the best salary cap benefit to the Falcons. I would have to say Minnesota, Detroit, Kansas City, San Francisco, or N.Y. Jets. These are the teams that are the worst this year and do not have a decent QB, besides N.Y. Jets. Vick is no long term answer for any team, but he is a stop gap for the fans until these teams can draft and develop a better QB. The publicity and money and the money he would bring to these awful teams is apparent. Every fan has an opinion, like him or not, and people are willing to pay to see how this works out.

I got your back my brotha. Did you read the ESPN column? They reported that Vick is working out in prison and was consistently bench pressing 300lbs (twice that of LEAF) and was firing lasers.
He was not doing time, he was in the high tech training facility, with posters of all the rednecks in Atlanta thinking I AM GOING TO CRUSH THAT GOLDEN BOY IN FRONT OF THEIR FAKE FANS
You are also right about them being nervous, because they were banking on him not coming back to the NFL because they know what he will do when he comes back.
I can hardly wait to see those 60 yard runs and deep bombs too receivers who can actually catch.

Why would the Panthers want Vick? They have a franchise QB. And what is “gredy”? Or “caracter”? You people are retards- plain and simple.
And this one-man show stuff is ridiculous. Anybody familar with Roddy White, our no.1 reciever? Drafted for Vick. Micheal Jenkins, the guy with the critical catch at the end of Sunday’s win? Also drafted for Vick. He couldn’t throw, or he threw too hard. As soon as Vick was gone, these guys suddenly “became” better recievers. White was better even with Chris Freakin Redman and Blue Skies throwing to him.
Half of the current offensive line were here for the supposed “one man show”. Half of the defense is the same. Face it- we have a more effective qb now, and it’s showing in the win column.
Wonder if this kid will “quit” during any of our late-season games.

You people say that this is the same team Vick had……thats pretty much correct, but you have to have coaching, a GM with a f’ing brain, etc etc, which the flacons now have. Ryan got lucky that the falcons “decided” to build a team the right way instead of just having vick be the focus of everything. Minnesota. I think this WILL happen. Vick + Peterson? Yikes.
Rams. I know that’s a little stretch, but they’ll need something to shake it up after finishing Dead Last in the NFL. Vick will come in heralded as the quiet, solid #2 QB and start by game 6.
Oakland. In typical Al Davis fashion they pull the plug on Jamarcus Russell too early and look to Vick.
I do hope Vick a) has learned his lesson and is seriously repentant, and
b) serves a short NFL probation and is allowed back into the league, and
c) is traded by the Falcons for a nice pick and some serious cap relief and
d) decides to pour himself into his craft, study film and learn how to read defenses and hit receivers in stride instead of getting them killed over the middle on 12 yard passes moving 100mph that are thrown 3 feet above their heads.
If he does this, he could still be one of the greatest that ever played the position. YES, I SAID IT BECAUSE I BELIEVE IT. Always have. But I also believe that he was horribly lazy, decidedly immature, hopelessly narcissistic, totally dishonest and 100% guilty, and those things lead to his downfall and to the fact that all he is remembered for is a conviction instead of being an interstellar athlete who was unfortunately a very subpar QB. I loved it when we got him, and unfortunately I will love it even more when we can finally all just let him go. Vio con Dios Ron Mexico. don’t let the door hitcha…

@Vick supporter, If Vick doesnt talk s** to the other players and fans maybe he will flip them off at the end of the game. I mean he does it to his own fans why wouldnt he do it to oppsing fans. Why dont you go and visit him in the can. Maybe he will sign your jersey after he is done being frisked by the guards. Get a life you dope! By the way how is a QB who only completes about 56% of his passes going to win a superbowl? Ryan has already done in that in all of his games. Vick played for what 6 years, Ryan 6 games. I got news for you, it takes brains to be a good QB in the NFL. Something of which Vick does not have

What did the Falcons ever do to Vick that would make him want revenge? Move on after he messed up? How dare they even play the two seasons without him. We should have just sat out and not played. If Vick wants to play, he should play. He won’t play here because we have a QB. Vick won’t want to play anything besides QB, and having him on the team will create a lot of tension, particularly with the fans. The people, vick supporters 1 & 2 and whoever, they’re problem is that they are fans of one player. Everyone who has moved on, we’re fans of the Falcons. Vick was exciting. It was fun. He’s gone. The Falcons have moved on. This is a league of teams, not players. Vick isn’t looking for revenge against the Falcons because the Falcons did nothing but support him. They just moved on. He made a mistake, hopefully he’s learned. Its time this city rallied around its team, not one player on the team. I’m not a Ryan fan or Ryan supporter, I’m a Falcons fan and a Falcons supporter. Ryan is the future. And the BS that he can’t handle pressure??? Did you watch the Bears game last week???

I attended my first Falcons game in many years (I live in FL) this past weekend and saw thousands of Vick Jerseys. I have one question to those of you who continue to wear them.
What is the statement that you are trying to make? Here are several choices I could think of.
I must admit - it is a very confusing site to see all of you. I spoke to several Chicago fans who were equally perplexed.
It does explain a lot about why people are always bashing the Atlanta fan base.

Mr. Ledbetter, I am going to say the same thing to you that I said to T. Moore. You both should have known that this entire line of thinking does nothing but bring out the worst that is to be found in Falcons fan-land. I know clicks sell ads, and I know Arthur’s comments to SI make this a story, but at what cost.
At least you made your story somewhat positive and tried to steer the conversation towards where Vick might be going. So since this is going to be a story, use those journalistic resources and follow up on this one. Keep track of the fans in any other NFL city where there is any hint of a QB problem. That’s probably 50% or more of the league. I’m willing to bet you a dinner that all of those cities fans will be lobbying to get Vick just as soon as it becomes major national news that he can get back into the league.
And for the record, Anyone who lobbies against Vick getting a second chance because he told a lie, or because he wasn’t as nice as you might want him to be to animals, or even because he has a conviction on his record, is a huge hypocrite and probably has an ulterior motive or deeper meaning to hating Mike Vick. All you so-called Christians need to practice what you preach and learn how to forgive. Vick never did anything to any of you and if you don’t like the way he lives his life, he doesn’t need your approval. But it is patently ridiculous to advocate for a man, a human being, to be permanently ostracized for the reasons lumped on MV7 (and many of these same people called for longer jail time, and even capital punishment for involvement with the death of a dog). It isn’t because you love dogs or animals, it’s because you hate Michael Vick. Search your own soul for as you judge, so shall you be judged.

“I attended my first Falcons game in many years (I live in FL) this past weekend and saw thousands of Vick Jerseys. I have one question to those of you who continue to wear them. What is the statement that you are trying to make? “
I wasn’t at that game, but as the owner of a Vick jersey here’s my response: Yeah, I paid $55 bucks for that jersey back in ‘02, and I’m not gonna stop wearing a $55 piece of apparel just because the guy whose name is on it killed a few animals. More importantly, Vick was a great player on the field, which is pretty much all I care about. A lot of people still wear Jessie Tuggle and Steve Bartkowski jerseys to Falcons game, or Dominique Wilkins jerseys to Hawks games — that doesn’t necessarily mean they expect to see them playing for the Falcons or Hawks again. Same goes for Vick.

Vick was an exciting player during his time with the Falcons. Biggest complaint was that he could not lead team to Super Bowl victory. Vick now faces the same opponent that all athletes must face, AGH. He is getting older and as he ages his skills are diminishing. He is not the same man that run 4.2 in the 40 when he came into the league 7 years ago. He will have to learn to beat teams with his arm instead of with his legs. He will have to develop into a drop back passer in order to lead a team now. There is not an athlete that can escape Father Time. Not Bird, Magic, Jordan, Aickman, Montana, Unitas, Staubach, Jabbar, and Russell.
Vick is also getting old and unless he can learn to be a passer first and scrambler second he wlll not be courted by too many NFL teams.

“Sells tickets to the Dome” isn’t an argument that holds water. The lion’s share of revenue doesn’t come from the bleacher seats, it comes from skybox leases. Leases that are paid for by buttoned-down corporate types for the purpose of wining and dining clients. Bringing back a convicted felon, especially one who has polarized the fan base in such a controversial way, would likely cause those corporate cash cows to look for greener pastures.
As it is, the Falcons have done what they needed to do: rebuilt from the top down to lay the foundation of a long-term winning program with a TEAM.
As far as where he who shall remain nameless may turn up, I’m thinking the odds are better than even that he will be banned for life. The way he spit in Goodell’s eye isn’t something that could be soon forgotten.

I simply hope the Falcons get something for Vick - be it a 3rd round pick or less. The thing is that this TEAM is more of a TEAM than they ever were under Vick and will have more success than Vick ever had here. Vick only had TWO winning seasons in Atlanta.
It cracks me up that all these Vick-lovers (who certainly cannot be dog lovers) think that he is going to play for someone else and light it up. What a joke!!! There isn’t a team where Vick can play and instantly be a good QB.
This Falcon team is on track to be a good football team. There are still pieces missing, but you can see in the discipline and the way we run the ball that this team can get better.
Why can’t you Vick supporters get behind some of the players we have playing NOW? Michael Turner is awesome! Matt Ryan looks pretty good. Heck, even Jason Elam showed some guts hitting that 46 yarder.
GET ON BOARD WITH THE TEAM WE HAVE NOW!

It is a waste of time arguing with all of the “Vick Supporters” out there. By that, I mean people like Vick supporter 1 and 2 on here. I support Vick in whatever else he does. Good luck to the man. But he is done here. You can’t argue with them because they will never see reason. If Ryan throws for 300 yrds, Vick would have thrown for 400 and run for 100 more. If Ryan wins a Super Bowl, Vick would have won 2.
Never argue with an idiot. They’ll bring you down to their level and win through experience.
So to the actual point of this article, he could really go anywhere where they need a QB. Minnesota, Oakland, Dallas, Detroit. Just depends.
Come on, genocide of successful black athletes? Are you serious? Look around, Gill. Roddy White isn’t in jail. Michael Turner is popular. ONE black guy gets arrested and its “genocide.” Get a grip. There are black athletes all over this country that are absolutely adored, more than white athletes in all likelihood.
McRly? is right. He did it to himself. Wake up, Atlanta. We have a good football team to support.

I hope he lands in Tampa, so we have to see him 2 times a year. We never built any kind of line for him, and fired a hall of fame coach for a cheer leading idiot. Funny how the team did not address, or admit that we had a line problem until he was gone.
Some kill him for his passing, but never bring up the point that, under the cheer leader, we had the least amount of pass attempts in the league and very inexperienced receivers - not to mention that he never had time to throw.
Yes, he is out of the league now because of HIS mistakes and stupidity. But the guy did a lot for the Falcons, and I, for one, will not forget it.
I was a Falcon fan before Vick was born and will remain one. I remember Bob Berry, Bob Lee, etc. I remember what the stadium and atmosphere was like before he came. But, I am also a Vick fan. The man has lost way more than most of us will ever see. He has, and is, paying a huge price for his actions, Yet there are still those who want to kick him. Man, I hope these cats are never down and never have to receive the same judgment that they hand out.

What makes you think that his legal troubles are over after he gets out of Ft Levenworth? He stupidly admitted to federal charges and did not get the state charges tied in. He will likely be facing a Virginia indictment and court date. Goodell will never lift his suspension until all legal actions are cleared. He may be out for three more years. How good will he be 4 years removed from the NFL?

This is a funny blog. Many keep saying they dont care where he ends up yet are making the most post and the longest post. If you dont care im sure it would be easier to just ignore this blog and you know erm not care.
The teams I could see him going to are the Vikings, Tampa, Lions, Chiefs, and maybe the Panthers. The Vikings seem to be the best fit. Great running game and good offensive line. The Panthers have Delhomme and im sorry but the guy is not a franchise qb. He is a good one when not hurt but not a franchise qb. I could possibly see Seatle. Hassleback stays hurt and Mora likes him. I think the commish will allow him to play again but the state charges are the biggest hurdle in my opinion. People get over the fact that he lied to the commish. Im pretty sure 2 years away from the game is sufficient punishment. He will probably have to go to some kind of animal sensativity program and etc but I dont think he will be suspended another year or so if the state charges are handled and it doesnt require any more jail time.
Im laughing at the guy who says Jenkins is a better wr now that Vick is gone. Jenkins is on his way to having his worst statistical season since I think his rookie year. He was actually pretty good the last year he played with Vick. He just dropped way to many easy passes. OF course Roddy got better. He showed flashes of talent his first two years. He just dropped too many passes also. We were a running team and did not pass the ball a lot. The wrs never got into a good rhythm . Roddy himself said Vick always had confidence in him, even told him that he would be a pro bowler one day. The last two years we have had a better offensive gameplan and Roddy has flourished. He has better concentration. Plus it takes most wr’s 3 years to develop .The guy was a project when he was drafted so it was known it would take time and patience. The o line is better because we actually have better players. This o line is not the same o line we had the past few years. Dont act is if we have a better o line that Vick is gone. They sucked last year too. We finally have a front office that knows how to build a team.

Mark this down: Mihcael Vick will come back, not as a QB, but as a kick returner and punt returner. The best kick and punt returner this league has ever seen.
Then he will mold into a rb/wr combo, where he will also excel.

The Falcons need to pimp all they can out of the Vick trade. Motown is a great spot since they just got some picks great additionally picks from the Cowboys in the Williams deal.
The real question is how much is Vick worth? The Pats got Moss for a 4th round pick from the Raiders last year. That was then and even moreso now the steal of the century. I think the Falcons should get at least a 2nd round pick if not a first. The one thing is for sure. Vick will fill the seats in Ford Field (I think he has a lot of gas left in the tank and will be coming back to the NFL with something to prove and a major chip on his shoulder).
If the Falcons play their cards right, they can come out of this a huge winner.

Orlando, I have to say good job on getting the blog back on track to being a giant racist fight between one side who never saw the talent Vick had and another side who thinks it is ok to electrocute and hang dogs.
Once Vick has done his time, he deserves a shot to play again in the NFL. The Falcons had to move on, deal with it. There are a lot of black players on the team to pull for who are going to be or already are stars (Michael Boley, Roddy White, Big Grady, Abraham, etc.)
To the other side, Vick brought something to this town in terms of igniting the Falcons fan base that it hadn’t come close to seeing before. He is an electric, fun to watch player who had some of the single greatest moments in Falcons history. But he committed a serious crime, and it was his time to go.
Seriously, the blogs should be about the on-field product, or we’re never going to get past this crap.

@boxer99. You’d be surprised how many people agree w/me. Are you not man enough t admit that the Falcons made numerous mistakes too? Just because you think that he should be banned for life does that mean I should feel that way? What the problem w/me defending my favorite player? is it because the white man (you and every other person on these blogs) thinks its wrong to do so? As you can see, I don’t give 2 sh!ts what you people think. If you can come on here and call him every name in the book and be ok, I can defend him. Is that ok, Master? I work from my laptop all day, not diggin ditches like you. When “Convick” as you call him, gets back to the NFL, we will see whose team gets dusted. Have a good day, my sheet wearing friend.

Mr Blank is now trying to stay politically correct so it wont’t effect Home Depot. Mike will be back and be the same star as he was before and put fans in the stands for another team. VICK SHALL RETURN AGAIN
By Deep Throat
October 16, 2008 1:16 PM | Link to this
Pssssssst
Mike Vick will only play again in the NFL long enough to pay back the Man. Once that is done, a dollar will become worth a penny, as the world’s economy collapses. All professional athletes will see their wealth disappear - red, yellow, black, and white - all sports. The ordinary people will no longer see athletes as heros, when athletes have only a little, but they do not share anything with those who have nothing.
The return of a Great Depression will bring about the end of the Antitrust Exemptions allowed for professional sports. The NFL draft will become illegal and high salaries and bonuses will become a thing of the past. All players will be released from contracts immediately, as a new system of application for employment becomes instituted, with Federal laws making equal employment available to everyone (including those not pumped up with steroids). Lawsuits will cause all present NFL franchizes to fold. Sports agents will have to join the masses of jobless. New copies of professional sports teams will spring up on a much smaller scale, with local talent, in small parks, with little travel involved. These may charge minimal admissions, thus retaining the title “professional”. Professional sports are tool of the government designed to keep the people forgetting the long soup lines and lack of jobs making life miserable, so they have to be affordable to all. Expect coupons for regular attendance to come in the mail, rather than a welfare check.

I don’t think that is breaking news.
You must still be on dial up.
Vick Supporter-I don’t think it is wrong to suppoert your favorite player at all. I wouldn’t agree though that you put down the fans or team he used to play for in order to do so. Just as you are entitled to your opinion on Vick. Others are entitled to theirs. Thre is nothing wrong with Supporting him. He was my favorite player. I cut out the AJC 3-D cover of him on the football preview in Setp. 01 and framed it. I still have it to this day. i waled to the window and bought tickets for 45 bucks to the first preseason game he ever played for the Birds against the Steelers. I remember thinking this is the birth of an NFL legend and he is on our team. But it didn’t work out ya know.
You suppoert and defend a your favorite your favorite player. No problem with that. There are racist remarks being thrown up by both balck people and white people on here. I for one can have a real conversation with you on Vick. No race needed.
He was a good QB, and an even better athlete. His down fall other than himself, was that offense Blank bought from Knapp and Mora they were peddling around. It was built for him and it didn’t work. Doesn’t mean he was a bad QB. I believe if he threw himself into the game like Manning, as far as film room study and the mental aspect of being an NFL QB-reading defenses-and waht not he could have been alot better. Not to say he wasn’t….but you got to admit he was never accused of being a gym rat as they say.
He will get his chance again and deserves his chance. He will be a good QB again in this league no doubt. Right system. Right city. Right coaching. But most of al lright choices made by him self for himself.
I feel you on supporting your favorite player. But race can stay out of it when you think about it. I suppoert Ryan…not becasue he is white, but becasue he is our QB…much like Vick used to be.
YOu can’t compare Vick and Ryan although it is hard to because now Ryan is taking the place of Vick so to say.
Both are far different talents. Vick better in some areas. Ryan better in others. Ryan was more polished for the pro game coming out I think. Vick was to an extent but relied alot on waht got him there which we both know was his feet. Nothing wrong with that. Ryan wil lbe a very good QB inthis league. Not becasue he is better than Vick. But becasue he is a good QB…who is being placed into a great system that works with him and not ABOUT HIM.
Support your favorite player man. I’m all for you supporting him. But as hard as it is let’s stay real and have real football talk. Leave all BS to the ignorant folks.

Mike Vick is to the Atlanta Falcons’ fans like an “ex-wife”.
White folk believe in marriage, so they tend to have an ax to grind with ex’s. Therefore, they make up excuses for why Mike Vick should be forever punished.
Black folk don’t all believe in marriage, so the ones who don’t see Mike Vick as that good lay they once had, who had their babies while never asking the run-away daddies for support money. Therefore, they still “love” Mike Vick and would love to get back in the sack with him - just for a few more quick orgasms.
I would like to thank Satan for momentarily letting me out of hell to give this public service announcement. Carry on.

To all the Mike Vick supporters understand this, it is a priveledge not a right to play in the NFL. Guess what, as a fireman, if I get a felony conviction, I’m gone, done forever. No second chances for me, my certifications and licenses get yanked and I am in a new line of work. But I guess people value running a 4.3 40 that much. I totally believe in second chances, but it is not a given, look at Adam Jones, how many chances does he get? And to talk about fighting dogs not being a big deal is ridiculous, most people feel that it is a dispicable act, that is why he is in a federal pen. not because he is black and people are out to get him. But I can definitely see him getting a second shot in the league probably in KC, or NY Jets. The league may have something to say about him going anywhere in the division because it could be a nightmare the first time he comes back to the dome.

The guy is a talented athlete who came into the NFL with a clean record according to his HS/College Coach and Dan Reeves. He made mistakes big mistakes and he is paying for in a BIG way. I believe people can rehabilitate and I would like to see him return maybe as a running back to pose a double threat.
I would hate to see him back with Greg Knapp (they did not do well together) but believe Oakland is possible Tampa Bay seems possible Jets (Farve will nmot last forever) Tampa Bay and Jerry Jones never says no to talent.
If he has grown he might try coming back through Canada or the devopmental league.
Give him a chance we all deserve one. Well those of us who at some time have done things they regret You people who have not made a mistake that cost you and your family I can see why you think he should rot in hell. Then again if thjat is the case he will not be alone

@D.Ellis. Great comment man, I totally agree, I just hate that people have such short memories of how good things used to be. I agree, Ryan has ability, never said that he didn’t. People are making Ryan out to be Manning after 5 games, and I think thats crazy. Vick did this to himself, but for people to say he was a terrible qb is just crazy. None of them mention the system that he was in or what was around him like you did, and it was a very valid point. thats why I hate the fans here, D.Ellis. they look at players from a numbers perspective and not by wins. Regardless of the last 2 seasons that Vick was here, to even have those w-l records was an achievement in itself, w/the idiot coaching and playcalling from knapp and mora. Some systems don’t fit players, no matter who they are, and that doesn’t make him dumb or not able to read defenses. You don’t be a starting qb for 6 years and don’t know how to read a single defense, you can’t be an NFL QB on accident. Just can’t happen. Vick will have his day again, SOON. i can’t wait for him to make these ignorant fans eat their words.

THE ERA OF THE “STONE FOOTED ONE DIMENTIONAL THROWERS ARE OVER
Fans want excitement - not just watching a bunch of talented brothas chasing down overthrown passes, making the one-dimentional quarterbacks look good.
This was evident in the game against Chicao - would we even be having this conversation if the line didn’t stuff Chicago at the goal? I think not.
The bottom line is the new breed of quarterbacks bring options - if no one is open, tuck it and dash for the goal.
If Leaf was not a one dimensional quarterback, the score would have been 35-20 and not 22-20 (4-field goals).
THAT’S WHY VICK HAD THE RICHES CONTRACT IN NFL HISTORY - NOT BRADY, NOT MANNING & NOT FAVRE
Stop hating because owners don’t pay one dimentional quarterbacks those type of contracts.
HAVE A NICE DAY JEALOUS ONES :)

Bottom line, I hope he has his personal act together wherever he ends up. My guess is Baltimore or Detroit even though Baltimore drafted the Delaware guy.
If he has his personal act cleaned up, he can play in the league but he will never be the savior his blind supporters think he will be.
If his personal act is not clean,he will be a 3 ring circus act for his new team. My guess is it’s about even money that he will screw up again.

Plus they started the game with only one Corner … he got hurt right b4 the half … Going for it on the goal line when you need the points … a gift … kicking the ball short with only a few seconds left in the game … a gift !! Sure, Love Bug Smith made some bad decisions. But if the Falcons had scored touchdowns instead of field goals in the red zone, they would have had a blow out! Bears just hung around, tried to take the game, but then gave it back with the squib kick.

Vick supporter 2, support your statement.
Lets see, Eli, Payton, Roth, Brady, Warner, all “one dimensional” qbs, and also the winners of all the recent superbowls.
All the while, Troy Smith can’t even break the starting lineup, Tavaruis Jackson can’t keep the starting job, and Jamarcus Russell can’t complete 35% of his passes.
As a matter of fact, you don’t have the intelligence to recogonize real trends that show teams are moving away from ignorant athletic QBs like Vick, and toward classic intelligent lily white boys like Matty Ice.
If you disagree, intelligently make a case. No name calling, it just reconfirms you lower intellect.

Vick Supporter.
Fact: Vick did not throw a TD pass in the 4th quarter in 2006. He had his day, but he lost a step, and the defenses figured him out (Ironically, Urlacher showed the way). My guess it gets out of prison about 10 pounds heavier, and runs a 4.6, and gets cut before week 1.
Also, I see you did not support your statement that the “new era” of QB has taken over. Lets see:
Michael Vick- In Jail where he belongs.
Vince Young- Unable to withstand the mental pressure.
Tavarius Jackson- Beat out by a slow, washed up, 2nd rate white guy.
Jamarcus Russell- 30% LOL, Makes Vick look like Joe Montana.
The only black QB who really has shown any ability to show long term success is Donavan McNabb, but he went to Syracuse, so he probably spent a lot of time around white folks, so he learned how to speak, and how to reason. Yet even with his superior physical skill, he choked like a baby.
Finally, what do:
Payton Eli Roth Warner and Brady have in common? They are all greatest QBs of our generation. Yep, I see a trend alright.
Sorry, VS2, just keeping it real.

I think vick ends up in Seattle if he makes it back; and that’s questionable; VA may want him to do some state time and the NFL probably doesn’t really want one more convicted felon on the field but who knows; Mora loved Vick; his QB is getting old; they aren’t very good and so they probably would like to have the excitement; I doubt the Falcons get anything for him but who knows; too bad Vick didn’t want to play football here; the fans, I think, supported him and loved him;

Problem seems to be some of the youngsters can’t smoke pot and learn a play book at the same time. Then, after you tie the play book to their wrist, they can’t read the dang thing. The best ones just don’t skip a beat, because the improvise. To heck with the play, if I don’t know what the play means, I’ll just run the football. A 3-yard toss? That’s SPORTSCENTER STUFF. Who wants to see a ame winning 4th & goal at the 20 yard line with 10 seconds left when you can throw a 3-yard lollipop? Or a 40 yard winning touchdown in over-time.
I guess a 3-yard lollipop is hall of fame material.

I see, when stymied by facts and unable to support your statement that there is a new breed of QB when I called you out. You call me a Klansman.
So what if Vick lost a step? Why should that have anything to do with his ability to play QB? Or, do you think I am right, that Vick does not have the intellect to play QB in the NFL and he has been living by his legs, and without that, he won’t even make the roster.
Again, explain his inability to throw one single 4th Qtr TD pass in 2006. How many trips in the red zone did he have? At least Matty Ice threw a 3 yarder.
If the Falcons drafted Jamarcus Russell, and he started like Ryan did. Don’t tell me you would not be proud and talking him up.
Who is the racist? You hate Matty Ice for only one reason.
Bottom line, Ryan has played 6 games, he might still be a bust, but he sure looks promising at this point. Your hate blinds you.

Hey Joe White….do us a favor man wash that Vick jersey. If you’re wearing it “all day everyday” it must be stankin pretty bad by now. You people are so ignorant and uneducated that I really can’t help but feel sorry for your dumb assess. Vick is a looser. He will never be a Falcon again. Ryan is the future, and he will do something Vick will NEVER do…..win a super bowl. Why? That’s simple. Because with Ryan, it’s actually a football TEAM……NOT the Michael Vick show.

@Uncle Charlie. First of all, one player can’t do it by themself. This team is alot more organized, better coaching, cmon man. Jim Mora was a complete idiot and you know it. We’re gonna see about what Ryan is made of. He has a chance to be really good. Vick is a proven QB, he lifted this team up the best it could be lifted, on his back. White was a project when he was drafted and Jenkins got ZERO seperation, still doesn’t. The Bears gave up that pass. Even White admitted he let Vick down, Vick never bashed any of the recievers, or teamates. If he has, please show me. He never complained publicly. Also, if Vick has lost a step, he’s still faster than all the qbs in the nfl, he will drive defenses crazy and he will throw straight darts. No matter what you say and how much you hate him, you will watch. Guranteed.

I’m glad this is a bye week, so we can read the posts on this thread for another 10 days.
I’ll repeat, Arthur Blank is a complete idiot and non-football man who made too much money when the house building and house flipping business was booming. He got out at the right time; but he’s another Rankin Smith type owner. For him to say what he said, “Not in Atlanta,” its like playing poker and flipping all your cards face up, before betting a bluff. IF Mike Vick still has value, it is with the Atlanta Falcons FIRST. Now, Blank can say, “We love Mike Vick and will welcome him back to our club in whatever capacity we deem best BUT not as quarterback. IF Mike Vick is truly repentant, he will return punts willingly, just to get an NFL paycheck again. IF Mike Vick is not repentant and says he only plays quarterback, or he does not play, he should be forced to retire and sit out 2009. IF Mike Vick says he will gladly do whatever Coach Smith says he do, THEN you entertain this fantasy football question about where Mike Vick will end up playing. When he gets back his top value, he gets traded for top value in return. THAT is good business.

Crabapple Joe is right. This guy Ledbetter has worked long enough at the AJC to know that any Vick-related topic is gonna end up degenerating into a racially charged discussion.
I don’t agree with a lot of what Vick Supporter says, but I am co-signing his 3:26 PM post. I can understand Falcons fans wanting to put the Vick era behind them. I have even accepted that hypocrisy runs rampant in American society when it comes to animal cruelty and nothing about Michael Vick’s situation is gonna change that. What I cannot understand, however, is why people want to act like Vick wasn’t a great player on the field because they don’t like the person he was off the field. I don’t like seeing history rewritten. Vick was the greatest athlete I have ever seen play, in any sport. That includes Jordan, LeBron, Barry Sanders, etc. Maybe he wasn’t statistically the greatest QB, but he got the job done, gained the yards that needed to be gained, and won more often than he lost. And like I have said many, many times before, to the point that I got tired of typing it, Vick would have been a lot better statistically without Jim Moron and his crew of clowns sidetracking his career. So hate him for killing dogs if you want. But don’t come here trying to act like he was a bust or a disappointment on the field, because you know it ain’t true.

Dang, i’m not sure which Vick supporter is dumber…1 or 2! We can at least agree that both are idiots and would continue to root for Vick at any cost. Why? Well because he’s black of course.
What you two nimrods can’t/won’t acknowledge is that Vick is a sandlot football player. He can’t read a defense, is unable to call audibles, and that was with a DUMBED DOWN playbook. Meanwhile, Matt Ryan already knows the playbook, can read defenses, and is making Roddy White an All pro receiver. It’s amazing how good the receivers look now that they know their qb is staying in the pocket long enough to run their routes.
And finally, I don’t think many of us Falcons fans are going to miss you and other fans like you. This organization made Vick a wealthy man and instead of carrying himself like one, he chose to look like a gangster and kill dogs.

It has nothing to do with being “racist”… Michael Vick has all of the talent and ability in the world. He gets drafted #1 by Atlanta, paid tens of millions of dollars to play a game and he can’t get his sh*t together enough to know better than to get into a dog fighting ring? Come on people. It has nothing to do with black or white. It’s all about the person, and Michael Vick is not a good person. I wish he’d have kept his self together and performed at his All Pro level and had a long and rewarding career in Atlanta. However, you can’t run around smoking reefer and fighting dogs when you’re an elite NFL Quarterback. Get a grip people.. Quit pulling the race card, it’s getting very old… Oh yeah, from my experiences in life African Americans are every bit as racist as any “caucasian”, or as I prefer to be called, Honkey that I know.

VICK SUPPORTERS, here’s your chance. Win me over to your side. Tell me… What mistakes did the Falcons make regarding Vick? What part of his demise was their fault? I don’t doubt the man’s talent or how much I loved the guy while he was here, my problem with him is how much he embarrased me with his actions and his lies. That’s why I wouldn’t want him back, but you do. How do you validate that? Didn’t any of that embarrass you as a Falcon fan or a Vick fan? Explain to me why you choose to overlook his actions and his attempts to deceive everyone. I saw it as a guy who thought he was bigger than the Falcons, bigger than the NFL and bigger than the Law. LISTEN UP PEOPLE
One thing about African Americans that you people may never understand. When it comes to loyalty and having each other’s back when they have been unfairly treated - that how we are raised.
I don’t expect you to understand, comprehend or even care to but the next time you ask why we support MV7 - I’m answering your questions in advance.
Personally, I have nothing against Ryan and I’m sure he has more talent than Harrington, but I’m just showing the same support as was shown for Vick when he was the quarterback at the time of winning seasons. Your hatred didn’t start when he was losing, it was always there, even the year they went to the championship game. So I’m here to support Ryan just like you supported Vick.
**Will I ever stop supporting Vick — NO!
Will I bash Ryan each time he has a bad game —— YOU BETCHA (PALIN STYLE)
Do I care about your racist insults —- Nope been to 2-wars…nothing you can throw at me that I haven’t battle tested
Will I stand up and cheer when MV7’s new team comes to dome and crush your Falcons —- YOU BETCHA**

Najeh Davenpoop @ 1:27AM,
I respect those comments. Yeah, I was prouder than most to have Vick in the ATL. He was hell on wheels. It’s just when I stood there defending him week in and week out, basing my defense on all the lies he was telling, then he comes back and admits everything after he knows he’s busted… that’s what turned me against the guy. I’d expect everyone would understand that. And now he’s about to finishing paying that debt to me and the dogs and everyone else, and good for him. Hope he lives well. I just don’t want him on my team anymore.
By Vick Supporter
October 17, 2008 12:28 PM | Link to this
@McRly? You want to know what mistakes the Falcons made, in my opinion? Hopefully you’ll have an open mind and not start calling me a racist after 2 words. First of all, anyone who knows me on here, I defend Vick on the field. I think dogfighting is cruel and stupid, especially for him to be in the position that he was. The first mistake the Falcons made was getting rd of Dan Reeves. Vick needs a father figure type coach that he can respect, and he respected Reeves. Reeves firing was unfair, Vick was hurt that season, and Blank’s ego got the best of him. Next mistake, JIM MORA. This guy wanted to be FRIENDS more than be a coach. Sure, Mora was a young coach, he was immature himself by making the U of W job comment. He had no control over the team, whatsoever, DHall’s crazy a* ran him over constantly. Next Rich McKay. Need I say more? Look at him now, DEMOTED!! you don’t even see or hear his name anymore, there’s a reason for that…..he sucked….point blank. Correct me if I’m wrong, but QBs run offenses that are built to their strengths, Look at Manning, Brady, Favre in GB, they all ran the same offense their entire carrers. Not Vick. The Falcons front office was never in order, they didn’t build around Vick properly, which made him a one man show. He had no choice. The man never had any real help. Name one great WR, ONE!!! that he has ever had. You wanna know why the falcons are playing well now? Coaching, a real GM, Blank is staying out of the way and letting them do their jobs, and Roddy White has finally broken out. White himself admitted that he let Vick down with all of his drops. Remember, White was a project when he was drafted, he was drafted on potential, and it showed Its the only pick in the McKay era that has gone right. i don’t care about what he does off the field, its his business. Did Vick think he was bigger than the team, probably so. Why? He had Blank kissing his a* every second of the day. i guess he would do that when the man sells out your stadium for 7 years straight and make you hundreds of millions of dollars. Most NFL players are like that anyway, they just show it in different ways. Look at favre, you don’t think he was the same way? He held that team hostage. Eli Manning? I have a friend that works security at Giants games and they’re not allowed to look at him in the eyes or they’re fired? What is that. The reason i support him is because I want to see him overcome his problems, prove all of you people wrong who judge him for what he’s done off the field and act like he never did ANYTHING good for the Falcons, and that stupid. There’s my answer, McRly

VICK IS TECHNICALLY STILL A FALCON AND THE FALCONS WILL NOT LET HIM GO TO AN NFC SOUTH TEAM! Do any of you realize this? So many people talking about the Panthers and Bucs. These teams are doing real well, it is not in their interest to risk a fiasco with Vick. Plus, did you people not pay attention at all to the Brett Favre trade??? While Vick is a risky pickup, he is also very talented and if he cleans up his act he MIGHT be able to bite the new Falcons in the a*. The Falcons will send him as far away as possible (Raiders?), like the Packers with Favre.

Vick Supporter,
Dan Reeves? I totally agree.
Father figure? Hmmm.. Not the franchises ‘job’ to give him a father, although I agree he could have used the help.
Mora? Agree. Not good for any young player.
Rich McCay? I would have never, never thought so.. but after watching Dimitroff for just one year? Oh yeah. Agree.
No real Receivers? Well…dude, i’m gonna have to say, Vick wasn’t a great passer. He just wasn’t. And he held the ball too long. That being said, if I were putting together a football team and I could pick 3 QB’s to have -Manning, Favre, and Vick. But not because of his passing. But because he’s totally different than anyone else I ever saw play the position and because of his UnEarthy ability to hold the ball and create space until defenses broke down. The fella could flat out make some amazing plays. But not for his passing. Just so we understand each other. I don’t think T.O. could have helped Vick become a great passer.
Blank a** kissing? Agree. Glad that embarrasing side show is over.

That’s how this orta be, and all you grown folks reading this know it. Both sides, too. @Vick Supporter 2 get a life you ignorant Porch monkey @M7sopprter why would white people be afraid when Obama gets in? the guy is half white, i mean he should consider himself all white do to the fact that he had a typical black father who ran out on the mom when he was born. Besides if it wasnt for the whte voters Obama wouldnt have stood a chance in this election. If your to ignorant to know why: Blacks account for about 13 percent of the population in the U.S. about 50 percent have been in jail or are felons at one time therefor thet cant vote. So if you do the simple math Obama got help from other voters than just blacks. Look it up you fool, and guess what the numbers arnt racist.

Dear the South,
To anyone suggesting Vick comes to Canada to play in the CFL, it will never happen. Ex-felons cannot gain a work visa to work in Canada. Vick will play in the Arena league.
Sincerely, CANADA

Keep VICK as a tail back or receiver. He will be excellent in a wish bone or triple option offensive play.

The reason why “vick supporter” wants Obama is so his pathetic A* can get more handouts. By the way “Convick Supporter,” Obama is half white, if you didnt know. The Guy is an Oreo at heart. If it wasnt for whites he wouldnt have even come close in this election. So think about what you say. Dont be ignorant with your comments. And I guarantee you whites are not crying, but in your pathetic life you would like to think so. With that being said NoBama for president, the guy is a terrorist! and he is muslim.

250 comments suggests that where ever Mike Vick goes, he will still be the most popular NFL player these blogs will ever attract! LOL!! Just watch, Vick will be playing for the Ravens and the AJC will have to put up a blog about him every other week to keep the interest flowing!*

Unbelievable a bunch of grown a* men on the computer talking about another man, I thought only biotches did that. I am sure most that have all of this hate for vick have never told a lie never made any type of mistake lol but something tells me that ain’t true, get a damn grip, stop pretending that you are concerned about dogs, we all know the real reason , that young black man was making all that money, got all that talent and you don’t have either. I wouldn’t be a bit surprised that most of you (not all) have been locked up yourself. And as for Jim, you are on just about every site there is as it relates to vick (using different names) pretending that you are concerned about the welfare of dogs, get a life. Hi Fauman

i thing vick should second chance, i don’t thing it will be in ATL, but in other teams, like the Vikings. Imagine Peterson and Vick playing together, is like shaq and kobe or brady and moss. with the vikings defence they got, i thing the league will be called, VFL, vikings football league.
