Where is Vick going to land in the NFL?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
My good friend Pat Yasinskas has a nice piece on ESPN.com with Falcons owner Arthur Blank repeating what he’s told former colleague Steve Wyche and columnist Jeff Schultz several times about the franchise moving on after Michael Vick’s incarceration.
The $73 million contract he bestowed on Matt Ryan closed that door. Now with Ryan’s fine play, Vick’s really in Blank’s rear view mirror.
However, Blank told Yasinskas that he’ll support for Vick’s return to the NFL… you know, just not in the ATL. That’s new stuff.
Vick’s technically still a Falcon, who’s indefinitely suspended. His path back to the NFL is littered with obstacles.
Vick will have to be released by the Falcons at some salary cap-friendly point. His salary situation, which is in a legal dispute, will have to be settled. The salary cap issue is huge as the Falcons will have 13 unrestricted free agents after this season.
The State charges in Virginia must be resolved via adjudication or plea agreement, with no additional jail time.
The final thing to happen would be clearance for NFL Commissioner Roger “The Sheriff” Goodell.
Vick’s projected released date is July 20, 2009 by the Federal Bureau of Prisons. If everything lines up right or there is an earlier released, he could be ready to hit the field next season.
Since the Falcons have already taken themselves out of the running, who are some of the teams that might be interested in Vick?
Look at the teams with major quarterback issues and then you have to determine if they’ll take the public relations risk in order to improve their team.
I’m watching the Detroit situation? Kitna’s about done there. The loyal fan base is hungry for a winner. They’ll finally have new management next season.
What about a Raiders reunion with offensive coordinator Greg Knapp? As long as Al Davis is alive anything can happen out there.
Where do you think Vick will land after he’s paid his debt to society?

I don’t care where he goes. I am glad that Blank told everyone he will never be back here. Now maybe some of these idiot bloggers (reality check) just got their reality check. I hope he gets another chance but I forsee a PR nightmare wherever he goes if he gets to play. I still wish the guy good luck. He will have paid his debt. Now, will you idiots quit wearing his jersey to the games? You really look foolish.

I don’t care where he “lands” as long as it is not in Atlanta. I agree(reluctantly)that he deserves yet another chance and there are Jerry Jones and Al Davis types that will give it to him. Hopefully, the Falcons can get a draft pick out of the deal but to get some leeway under the cap may have to do.

As a lifetime falcons fan, and vick fan, I agree with Blank completely. Matty Ice is our QB. I think Detroit is a good prediction for Vick. Question though for ledbetter, can we trade him? So, he does not end up on a team in our division. Tampa Bay needs a QB and Delhomme is not getting any younger.

For as much money as Vick has caused the Falcons to lose, and then not being able to pay back the cash he was fronted, he still owes Blank - big time. Vick was thought to be a man of honor, as far as debt repayment was concerned, with legitimate securities, and no pending convictions for dog abuse. Who knew he was just another ignorant graduate of a football university, unable to read or do simple arithmetic? Vick needs to be back in Atlanta, cleaning the parking lots, selling hot dogs, or just as a chained-up sideshow at an Arthur Blank run autograph booth (all autographs $5, with all procedes going to the “Free Mike Vick by paying his debt for him” fund). That is unless there is some team stupid enough to make good on all of Vick’s debt, before taking possession of that ‘pig in a poke’.
Blank needs to tell your blog buddies, “I’m sorry, I am no longer in the business of meddling in the affairs of my NFL franchise. As you know, I ran it into the ground, firing Dan Reeves to get Mike Vick paired up with a lackey coach. I have actually since hired a real GM to run the club. Perhaps Mr. Dimitroff and Smith could find a job letting Mike Vick return kickoffs and punts for a year or three.” Now that would be a smart thing for Arthur Blank to do. If Vick has any value as an NFL football player, the Atlanta Falcons should reap those benefits before anyone else gets a chance.

Hey Y’all:
“ONE HEART BEAT!!!!” “ONE HEARTBEAT, BABY!!” That’s the ATLANTA FALCONS.
We have to move on folks. Vick had his time here and a damn good time at that. I am sure he will always remember Atlanta and the fans who stood by him and owner Arthur Blank who belived in him. Vick knows he made a big mistake here with his back stabbing friends and relatives. They helped ruin his football career here in Atlanta. He knows that and I am more than confident Vick accepts his punishemnt and loss with no remorse to the atlanta community. I believe he knows and understands the unprofesional and embarrassing situation he go the falcons into in dealing with his off the field situation. Any responsible person would understand the feeling on both sides. Blank state his feeling honestly and direct: He wants Vick to play but it would not be right for him to return to Falcons. This decision is an organizational culture decision. It is not personal. However, Blank belives this is not the end of Vicks football career in the NFL. He also stated he would support him and be a reference for Vick to the NFL Commissioner for Vick’s reinstatement to the NFL. What a man. What great character Blank has. Even now he stands by players who lives he has touched. And Vick is one of them. Believe it or not, Blank is Vick’s father figure. I know it hurt hm to let Blank down. But now we must close the book on Vick playing in Atlanta as a Falcon. We will see him in the future playing for another team against us. But the Falcons will prevail in the interim and against any team in the NFL. We will play with “ONE HEARTBEAT!!!” We will win with “ONE HEARTBEAT!!!” No matter what player is on the other team. We are the Atlanta Falcons. We play as a team and as a football community with “ONE HEARTBEAT!!!”
SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! This is a SECRET from a FALCON FAN. TELL EVERBODY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love the one heartbeat stuff.
Yes, the Falcons can trade him, too. Didn’t consider that. But they’ve kind of hurt his trade value by saying that don’t want him.
But Tennessee was able to find somebody to take Adam “Pacman” Jones in a trade. So the short answer is YES they can trade the rights to Michael Vick.

I think Vick deserves another shot. DETROIT can give him that opportunity. I would like to see nothing but wins from Detroit and assuming Vick comes at a cheap price he would be a steal and an immense help to the Lions organization. I dont think especially with the lions that there will be a HUGE PR problem with the aqisiton of Vick only because considering the 0-5 start and who knows how awfull the finish will be fans desperately NEED a man to hail as our saviour!

Let’s focus on the team we have and are proud of. Let’s let Vick worry about Vick and stop bringing him up for the sake of bringing him up.
This team is doing a great job. Let’s respect them enough to focus our attention where it belongs; supporting the Falcons on the field, not the ghosts of the past. Let’s not talk of those who should not be named until there is reason to do so. Let’s stop creating reasons to bring people up for “news” sake.

President Obama will pardon Vick and commute any outstanding charges in Virginia. The commissioner will force Blank to trade him to Detroit, straight up, for someone like Calvin Johnson. The Lions fans will gladly support a 2 - 14 team for many years to come, as long as Vick is at the helm. That means a profitable NFL, with Detroit able to be sold on national television, because of Vick. Until then, Detroit is as dead as the economy, which is an anchor on the a* of Roger Goodell.

Well well well, for Falcons fans that “don’t give a sh!t” about Vick you sure do talk about him alot. Even the AJC can’t get enough of him. Like I’ve always said, I support Vick ON THE FIELD, and he is GREAT AT THAT, EVEN WHEN WITH NOTHING on his team. Vick will be back and he will redeem himself. I’m all for Vck getting a new start. I do wish it was here though because the falcons finally have a real coach and GM, and they are trying to do things right in atlanta now, which p** me offf that they’re a “team” now and they made Vick a one man show. they should have built around him like they’re doing for Ryan, but that over and done with. Hey Najeh Davenpoop,
I feel your pain bro! Living on welfare checks, food stamps, and individual marijuana cigarettes and crack cocain sales will make it seem like “de who whorl don gotz on yo shouldas”, but the reality is Mike Vick was paid money to make more money than he was paid. You are thinking the cotton plantation owner got his money’s worth when that really big, fast cotton picker ran off to catch the Underground Railroad. Problem is, freedom from slavery means getting chained to the responsibility of credit and living in a world where nothing is due you because something happened to your great great grandfather.

Then I let my dog chew on it. This statement would have been true, but I would have never owned a convick jersey in the first place.

YES Vick should have got a major fine, but nowhere near jail. Governor Sarah Palin has pictures of a slaughtered deer up all over the internet!!! YOU CAN NOT MURDER A DOG!
ANYWAYS… Vick should play for Oakland. The only reason he should is because he will probably stress Al Davis out so much that he will finally step down and the Raiders can begin their Reign of Running Back Terror!

It would be fitting that Vick go to the Raiders. He can hang with his buddy MeAngelo Hall.
I don’t care where Vick goes, he will never be the “real deal”, he’s just not smart enough. I remember seeing him in a preseason game when he was a rookie. I turned to the guy next to me and said, “What the hell is that guy running around like an idiot for? Look for a freakin’ reciever!” ..and things never changed over the next several season.
Sure he was exciting, but he’ll never take a team to the Super Bowl and THAT’S what it is all about.
Now Ryan…he is the real deal and the seats will start filling up again. The Vick era is gone and loooong forgotten.

The best team is the one who will give the most or the best salary cap benefit to the Falcons. I would have to say Minnesota, Detroit, Kansas City, San Francisco, or N.Y. Jets. These are the teams that are the worst this year and do not have a decent QB, besides N.Y. Jets. Vick is no long term answer for any team, but he is a stop gap for the fans until these teams can draft and develop a better QB. The publicity and money and the money he would bring to these awful teams is apparent. Every fan has an opinion, like him or not, and people are willing to pay to see how this works out.

I got your back my brotha. Did you read the ESPN column? They reported that Vick is working out in prison and was consistently bench pressing 300lbs (twice that of LEAF) and was firing lasers.
He was not doing time, he was in the high tech training facility, with posters of all the rednecks in Atlanta thinking I AM GOING TO CRUSH THAT GOLDEN BOY IN FRONT OF THEIR FAKE FANS
You are also right about them being nervous, because they were banking on him not coming back to the NFL because they know what he will do when he comes back.
I can hardly wait to see those 60 yard runs and deep bombs too receivers who can actually catch.

Why would the Panthers want Vick? They have a franchise QB. And what is “gredy”? Or “caracter”? You people are retards- plain and simple.
And this one-man show stuff is ridiculous. Anybody familar with Roddy White, our no.1 reciever? Drafted for Vick. Micheal Jenkins, the guy with the critical catch at the end of Sunday’s win? Also drafted for Vick. He couldn’t throw, or he threw too hard. As soon as Vick was gone, these guys suddenly “became” better recievers. White was better even with Chris Freakin Redman and Blue Skies throwing to him.
Half of the current offensive line were here for the supposed “one man show”. Half of the defense is the same. Face it- we have a more effective qb now, and it’s showing in the win column.
Wonder if this kid will “quit” during any of our late-season games.

You people say that this is the same team Vick had……thats pretty much correct, but you have to have coaching, a GM with a f’ing brain, etc etc, which the flacons now have. Ryan got lucky that the falcons “decided” to build a team the right way instead of just having vick be the focus of everything. Minnesota. I think this WILL happen. Vick + Peterson? Yikes.
Rams. I know that’s a little stretch, but they’ll need something to shake it up after finishing Dead Last in the NFL. Vick will come in heralded as the quiet, solid #2 QB and start by game 6.
Oakland. In typical Al Davis fashion they pull the plug on Jamarcus Russell too early and look to Vick.
I do hope Vick a) has learned his lesson and is seriously repentant, and
b) serves a short NFL probation and is allowed back into the league, and
c) is traded by the Falcons for a nice pick and some serious cap relief and
d) decides to pour himself into his craft, study film and learn how to read defenses and hit receivers in stride instead of getting them killed over the middle on 12 yard passes moving 100mph that are thrown 3 feet above their heads.
If he does this, he could still be one of the greatest that ever played the position. YES, I SAID IT BECAUSE I BELIEVE IT. Always have. But I also believe that he was horribly lazy, decidedly immature, hopelessly narcissistic, totally dishonest and 100% guilty, and those things lead to his downfall and to the fact that all he is remembered for is a conviction instead of being an interstellar athlete who was unfortunately a very subpar QB. I loved it when we got him, and unfortunately I will love it even more when we can finally all just let him go. Vio con Dios Ron Mexico. don’t let the door hitcha…

@Vick supporter, If Vick doesnt talk s** to the other players and fans maybe he will flip them off at the end of the game. I mean he does it to his own fans why wouldnt he do it to oppsing fans. Why dont you go and visit him in the can. Maybe he will sign your jersey after he is done being frisked by the guards. Get a life you dope! By the way how is a QB who only completes about 56% of his passes going to win a superbowl? Ryan has already done in that in all of his games. Vick played for what 6 years, Ryan 6 games. I got news for you, it takes brains to be a good QB in the NFL. Something of which Vick does not have

What did the Falcons ever do to Vick that would make him want revenge? Move on after he messed up? How dare they even play the two seasons without him. We should have just sat out and not played. If Vick wants to play, he should play. He won’t play here because we have a QB. Vick won’t want to play anything besides QB, and having him on the team will create a lot of tension, particularly with the fans. The people, vick supporters 1 & 2 and whoever, they’re problem is that they are fans of one player. Everyone who has moved on, we’re fans of the Falcons. Vick was exciting. It was fun. He’s gone. The Falcons have moved on. This is a league of teams, not players. Vick isn’t looking for revenge against the Falcons because the Falcons did nothing but support him. They just moved on. He made a mistake, hopefully he’s learned. Its time this city rallied around its team, not one player on the team. I’m not a Ryan fan or Ryan supporter, I’m a Falcons fan and a Falcons supporter. Ryan is the future. And the BS that he can’t handle pressure??? Did you watch the Bears game last week???

I attended my first Falcons game in many years (I live in FL) this past weekend and saw thousands of Vick Jerseys. I have one question to those of you who continue to wear them.
What is the statement that you are trying to make? Here are several choices I could think of.
I must admit - it is a very confusing site to see all of you. I spoke to several Chicago fans who were equally perplexed.
It does explain a lot about why people are always bashing the Atlanta fan base.

Mr. Ledbetter, I am going to say the same thing to you that I said to T. Moore. You both should have known that this entire line of thinking does nothing but bring out the worst that is to be found in Falcons fan-land. I know clicks sell ads, and I know Arthur’s comments to SI make this a story, but at what cost.
At least you made your story somewhat positive and tried to steer the conversation towards where Vick might be going. So since this is going to be a story, use those journalistic resources and follow up on this one. Keep track of the fans in any other NFL city where there is any hint of a QB problem. That’s probably 50% or more of the league. I’m willing to bet you a dinner that all of those cities fans will be lobbying to get Vick just as soon as it becomes major national news that he can get back into the league.
And for the record, Anyone who lobbies against Vick getting a second chance because he told a lie, or because he wasn’t as nice as you might want him to be to animals, or even because he has a conviction on his record, is a huge hypocrite and probably has an ulterior motive or deeper meaning to hating Mike Vick. All you so-called Christians need to practice what you preach and learn how to forgive. Vick never did anything to any of you and if you don’t like the way he lives his life, he doesn’t need your approval. But it is patently ridiculous to advocate for a man, a human being, to be permanently ostracized for the reasons lumped on MV7 (and many of these same people called for longer jail time, and even capital punishment for involvement with the death of a dog). It isn’t because you love dogs or animals, it’s because you hate Michael Vick. Search your own soul for as you judge, so shall you be judged.

“I attended my first Falcons game in many years (I live in FL) this past weekend and saw thousands of Vick Jerseys. I have one question to those of you who continue to wear them. What is the statement that you are trying to make? “
I wasn’t at that game, but as the owner of a Vick jersey here’s my response: Yeah, I paid $55 bucks for that jersey back in ‘02, and I’m not gonna stop wearing a $55 piece of apparel just because the guy whose name is on it killed a few animals. More importantly, Vick was a great player on the field, which is pretty much all I care about. A lot of people still wear Jessie Tuggle and Steve Bartkowski jerseys to Falcons game, or Dominique Wilkins jerseys to Hawks games — that doesn’t necessarily mean they expect to see them playing for the Falcons or Hawks again. Same goes for Vick.

Vick was an exciting player during his time with the Falcons. Biggest complaint was that he could not lead team to Super Bowl victory. Vick now faces the same opponent that all athletes must face, AGH. He is getting older and as he ages his skills are diminishing. He is not the same man that run 4.2 in the 40 when he came into the league 7 years ago. He will have to learn to beat teams with his arm instead of with his legs. He will have to develop into a drop back passer in order to lead a team now. There is not an athlete that can escape Father Time. Not Bird, Magic, Jordan, Aickman, Montana, Unitas, Staubach, Jabbar, and Russell.
Vick is also getting old and unless he can learn to be a passer first and scrambler second he wlll not be courted by too many NFL teams.

“Sells tickets to the Dome” isn’t an argument that holds water. The lion’s share of revenue doesn’t come from the bleacher seats, it comes from skybox leases. Leases that are paid for by buttoned-down corporate types for the purpose of wining and dining clients. Bringing back a convicted felon, especially one who has polarized the fan base in such a controversial way, would likely cause those corporate cash cows to look for greener pastures.
As it is, the Falcons have done what they needed to do: rebuilt from the top down to lay the foundation of a long-term winning program with a TEAM.
As far as where he who shall remain nameless may turn up, I’m thinking the odds are better than even that he will be banned for life. The way he spit in Goodell’s eye isn’t something that could be soon forgotten.

I simply hope the Falcons get something for Vick - be it a 3rd round pick or less. The thing is that this TEAM is more of a TEAM than they ever were under Vick and will have more success than Vick ever had here. Vick only had TWO winning seasons in Atlanta.
It cracks me up that all these Vick-lovers (who certainly cannot be dog lovers) think that he is going to play for someone else and light it up. What a joke!!! There isn’t a team where Vick can play and instantly be a good QB.
This Falcon team is on track to be a good football team. There are still pieces missing, but you can see in the discipline and the way we run the ball that this team can get better.
Why can’t you Vick supporters get behind some of the players we have playing NOW? Michael Turner is awesome! Matt Ryan looks pretty good. Heck, even Jason Elam showed some guts hitting that 46 yarder.
GET ON BOARD WITH THE TEAM WE HAVE NOW!

It is a waste of time arguing with all of the “Vick Supporters” out there. By that, I mean people like Vick supporter 1 and 2 on here. I support Vick in whatever else he does. Good luck to the man. But he is done here. You can’t argue with them because they will never see reason. If Ryan throws for 300 yrds, Vick would have thrown for 400 and run for 100 more. If Ryan wins a Super Bowl, Vick would have won 2.
Never argue with an idiot. They’ll bring you down to their level and win through experience.
So to the actual point of this article, he could really go anywhere where they need a QB. Minnesota, Oakland, Dallas, Detroit. Just depends.
Come on, genocide of successful black athletes? Are you serious? Look around, Gill. Roddy White isn’t in jail. Michael Turner is popular. ONE black guy gets arrested and its “genocide.” Get a grip. There are black athletes all over this country that are absolutely adored, more than white athletes in all likelihood.
McRly? is right. He did it to himself. Wake up, Atlanta. We have a good football team to support.

I hope it’s somewhere in our division, so our defense can repay him, and our QB can show him how.I don’t think a convicted felon deserves the right to a multimillion dollar job especially after bringing so much destruction upon the NFL. I was at the game, my caucasian friend. I would have flipped off the crowd too. The N word, which I’m sure is in your daily vocabulary, was flowing freely that day, so I don’t blame him. You Falcon fans suck, which is why I’m not one anymore, and before you say who cares, I know you don’t. Your 56% completion comment……. as of right this moment, Ryan is completing 57% of his passes, I guess he’s a “Brady” now, as you crazy fans are comparing him to after 5 games? Listen, my caucasian friend, when jenkins and Roddy White were drafted, they were PROJECTS!! neither one them could catch anything, not even from your last hero, Schaub. Your comment is straight up stupid. You Falcon fans are so dumb, you’re already comparing Ryan to Tom f’ing Brady after 5 games, LMFAO. Man, I’m done, you idiots wear me out. We miss you Vick!!
