Big win can catapult Falcons back to playoffs

Come on now, you had the Falcons going 4-2.

You knew Matt Ryan was a legitimate NFL quarterback.

You never really wanted Glenn Dorsey.

You have plans for the playoff party and reservations for Tampa Bay.

Well maybe not.

But one thing is clear, the Falcons season - no matter what happens the rest of the way - has marked the return of pro football to Georgia after a year hiatus. Through six games, it’s safe to conclude that they are going to play and compete each week.

Too many times last season, you know they didn’t stand a chance entering the games. Things could be going well and then a sack would come or a real bad interception. You don’t get that sense of doom with this team.

Even after cornerback Chris Houston left Rashied Davis cross through his zone, while they were playing quarters, without clinging to him like static guard, you sensed something could still happen. Norwood could bust another return. A reverse or something. There was still time. Not a lot of time, but some time. 11 seconds.

With coach Mike Smith’s team, you know they are going to fight and are going to play the whole game. They went toe-to-toe with the Bears. Lost in the mix was that Michael Turner was still running hard on his 25th carry, despite the hits he was taking.

For right now, the Falcons (4-2) are running with the big boys in the NFC: the Giants (4-0), Tampa Bay (4-2), Arizona (4-2), Washington (4-2), Carolina (4-2) and Dallas (4-2).

In the second group of teams are Green Bay (3-3), New Orleans (3-3), Chicago (3-3), Philadelphia (3-3) and Minnesota (3-3).

The bottom of the NFC includes San Francisco (2-4), Seattle (1-4), St. Louis (1-4) and Detroit (0-5).

After the bye week, the Falcons play at Philadelphia and at Oakland to reach the halfway point. Can they keep it going? Can they find a red zone offense? Will the secondary tighten things up? Is it too early to start thinking about the P-word? (You know, playoffs!)

Yes, it is too early…way to early. We have to beat Phillie 1st and then Oakland and that only puts us halfway through the season. However…what a win! I love their grit and professionalism. Whether we make the playoffs or not, being a Falcon Fan no longer makes me feel like a “dirty bird”

B******! I thought that game was over after Davis’ TD, and so did you. What a game! The rec’s stepped up Sunday. Including Jenkins, of all people. He only had a few catches, but they were BIG catches, especially the last one. The Bears shoulda kicked it deep. If Norwood does’nt take it to the house, the game woulda been over. Thanks Lovie. lol!!

Agreed, too early. That said, minus major injuries to Ryan, Turner, Abraham or the offensive line (and that’s a big if) I think it breaks down this way: Phil — loss Oak — win Denver — win Minn — win SD — loss St Louis — Win New Orleans (away) — loss And, I figure Falcons take 2 out of 3 from the NFC South when they play in the Dome. So, that would put the Falcons at 10-6, probably enough to get a wild card spot.

Oh no…to quote the great Jim More Sr…PLAYOFFS…PLAYOFFS? Don’t talk about PLAYOFFS!

How about taking it one game at a time, and staying competitive game in and game out. Most important things for this 2008 Falcons team. As well as continue to show improvement from week to week, which is coaching and the ability of the players, their willigness to learn, etc get better for the next game.

When this season started, as a Falcons fan all I wanted to see is a competitive team that does NOT quit, and play hard with passion and desire to be the best they can be and show improvement. That’s it. Anything else, record wise is a bonus.

This is a long term project, the Falcons will be a force to be wreckoned with 2 years from now, unless something big happens again (like the recent crap they had to go through), and if all their key guys stay healthy.

I stand by my preseason prediction of between 6-8 wins. The eight looks pretty doable at this point. Nine or 10 would be within imagining based on what we’re seeing so far. The whole organization deserves a lot of kudos.

Hey DOL, I caught up with Steve Wyche last week at Little River Grill in Lawrenceville (even though Jerious Norwood and Chuck Oliver didn’t show). Have you ever thought about doing something similar? Like, meeting up with one of the Falcons at a restaurant/bar 1 night a week and fielding some questions from the fans for an hour or two? I think it would be great to see more of the players out in the community talking to the fans. McCray’s Tavern in Lawrenceville would be the perfect place, by the way. Let’s hook it up.

I see the Falcons hitting the midway point at 5-3 or 6-2. Philly doesn’t scare me and Oakland is…well, we all know about Oakland. And with 2 NFC South road games under our belt, we still have yet to welcome the Bucs, Saints and Panthers to the Dome. Building on this win will be huge. I expect sellout crowds and raucous energy in the Dome for the rest of the season.

What a difference a year makes. TD and MS clean house and instill a new attitude in this team. Our new QB and RB appear to have bought in, and we have Abe, Boley and Lawyer leading this defense. Heck, Jamaal Anderson even decided to make an appearance.

The Falcons of the past 3 years would have found a way to lose. This team found a way to win. And it seems like with Coach Smith and Matty Ice leading the way, this team never gives up and really feels that they have a chance to make a play when they need to. They won’t give up, and that much was evident yesterday.

Yep, pretty good place to be sitting heading into the bye week. Carolina and Tampa each play on the Falcons’ bye date, so there’s a chance we could be ahead of one (or both) of them after having this week off. I like where we’re at right now.

I have been following the Falcons since 1968. Yesterday’s win had to be in the top 5 of all time, considering what the team has gone through recently. Let’s try to take this thing one week at a time my friends. It looks awfully bright ahead, but let’s not be afraid of some growing pains along the way. That being said, It sure is fun to watch and be a fan once again! Thanks for my view…

WOW, WHAT A GAME!!! I moved down here from Kentucky 4 and a half years ago and decided last year that it was time to become a fan of my local NFL franchise. Couldn’t have picked a worse year, right?

Well at this point I could not be more happy that I jumped on the bandwagon in time to see the birth of what will surely be a perrenial winner. Yes, it’s probably too early to assume great things this season. But there is no doubt we will be a playoff contender for years to come.

There are a lot of soon-to-be Pro Bowlers on both sides of the ball and Matty Ice is my new hero! Anyone else smell a burgeoning Montana/Rice type combo. Oh, and Burner is the man too! Love It!!!

At 11 seconds, I walked out to get ready to help my spouse’s band set up. 10 minutes later, my father-in-law is screaming up to me on the deck after he watched Miami’s loss. We ran back down, and my 12YO had to run the TiVo because I was shaking. How COULD they have won?

Check out the Chicago Tribune forum/blog by Rosenbloom. They all want a coach’s head for the squib kick. (At least they don’t have the racist hate thing going on which is pleasant!!!)

Harry Douglas did a great job fielding, and the Falcons didn’t quit. Yes, we have to get better in the Red Zone. Jenkins was clearly well coached to catch that ball and keep his feet in. BTW, that was a great pass.

And I hereby admit I was wrong to want Dorsey or Ellis over Matty Ice. Mea Culpa.

If we don’t win another game this year, our rebuilding Falcons are proof that we will get better. Please don’t disparage a team that is trying and has heart. This is a better turn-around than we could have hoped for.

Good job by the team, great job by the coaches.

Great game. Falcons fan since 1979.

Too early to talk playoffs. We need to show ourselves worthy @ PHI and vs. NO, SD, and the 2nd game vs. TB and CAR.

That being said, lemme ask this:

given the red zone futility against the good teams (TB, Carolina, and Chicago) and the suprising 4-2 start …could the Falcons be a player in the Tony Gonzalez sweepstakes?…Imagine if Matt Ryan had him as a red-zone option esp. since we booted Alge Crumpler?!?!?

Mike Mularkey seems to keep a decent cache of TEs, some of whom were highly regarded during his days at PIT offensive coordinator.

We all know that the ATL Falcons are in a rebuilding/reshaping mode to get the player types that our new HC Mike Smith wants, but has there been any talk at Flowery Branch about rolling the dice with a couple of future draft picks for Gonzalez?

timing would be perfect, as tomorrow is trade deadline and the Falcons have a BYE. If T. Gonzalez is down with the ATL, he can have a week-and-a-half before the next game to get worked into the offense.

Thoughts?!?!?

Great win!! WOW. Would have been a devastating loss. To me the main thing is how they are trying so hard. I cant remember a Falcon team playing this hard in a long time. I love how Coach Smith has the team talking about “the process”. Reminds me of another great coach (can u say Crimson Tide) who talks about the SAME thing. Roddy White is now a top shelf receiver and physical and Ryan… this guy is FOR REAL. I smell another Elway/Marino/Brady in the future HERE!!!!

It is so nice to wash the stench of the last few years from this franchise. Thanks to Mr. Blank for hiring real professionals to run the front office. The Falcons could be a true contender in the next few years with these guys in charge.

Where are all the haters at? Its awfully quiet right. HOWS RYAN’S ARM STRENGTH NOW?!!! Love to hear what the haters are gonna come up with next. The kid’s got a great work ethic, has already won the respect of his teammates, can make ALL the throws, and is a humble leader. Not bad for a rookie, huh? Haven’t seen a rookie this poised since Marino. Its funny how people were rippin on this kid just cause he wasnt you know who or they wanted to draft someone else. I watched the kid develop in college and he seemed to get better every year and is a very dedicated individual. Its probably smart to give someone a chance before you trash them. Oh yeah, how’s brohm, henne, and flacco doing?

Falcons have too many holes in the team to be thinking playoffs. Let’s just be thrilled with a surprisingly good record (I’m predicting 7-9) and get some of those crucial ares filled next season. We certainly need a receiving TE to help Ryan in the red zone. And our defense could use significant help CB & DT. Trey Lewis’ return is not guaranteed and we surely need size and experience at CB.

But no doubt, it is GREAT to have professional football return to Atlanta.

I am so ashamed of myself! I live in Illinois now. This may have been the only Falcons game I get to see all year. 11 seconds left. The Bears score the go-ahead TD. I think, “SAME OLD FALCONS!” I’m so disgusted! I turn the TV off. I refuse to watch any more sports. I refuse to get on the internet the rest of the day or night. I come to work. take a quick look at Yahoo Sports. They must have made a mistake. 22 - 20! I read the story and go and pound my head against the wall!

I wasn’t a Matt Ryan fan or a Matt Ryan basher. NOW I believe! I thought Matty ICE was just a hype nickname. The kid must have ICE-water in those veins. Hasn’t anyone told him, he’s a rookie!! Rookies don’t go out and calmly use 5 of the remaining 6 seconds to set up a winning field goal! Not after the emotional letdown of the Bears last drive and TD. I think the Falcon brought in a ringer. Rookie QBs just don’t do that. I like what I read on Yahoo a few minutes ago. Smith, Dimitrioff, and Ryan need to start working on the nations financial crisis. I didn’t really expect to see professional football back in Atlanta so soon.

Great Win!!! But the playoff thoughts are very premature. The Falcons are playing exciting football, but in order to take the next step, they have to improve in the red-zone, and add a couple of dominate players on defense. Once that happens, watch out for the Atlanta Falcons!!!

What a great game. How far the Falcons have progressed! Of course, this is not as much a surprise to me as it might be to the so called experts at Pro Football Meekly who called the Birds season at 1W-15L.

I think the team can get even better this year. Players aren’t going to become noticeably stronger as the season progresses, but they can become smarter.

There were a handful of mistakes on the parf of the Falcons which, if avoided, would not have kept the game as close. I’m not referring to Elam’s shank.

Roddy had a spectacular TD catch nullified by Tyson Clabo’s penalty. How would have the avoidance of that mistake changed the tempo of the game? How about Chevis Jackson’s poor coverage of the Davis on a first down conversion? The Birds knew what play was coming, and Coach Smith was steamed at Jackson for being out of position. Then there was the out pass which Ryan threw under pressure. He expected HD to be there, but Harry had cut to the middle instead.

All these are mental mistakes which can be fixed. Maybe simply by winning a close game against a good team, the Falcons are going to be affected less by game-time jitters. I think the Falcons can improve even more by playing even more intelligently and more cool-ly under-pressure.

Hey SC,

In terms of mental errors, let’s not forget Grimes lining up in the neutral zone and giving an encroachment penalty to the Bears and keeping that final drive alive. We had em stopped and the touchdown never happens.

In terms of TG, sorry, the team chemistry right now is perfect. As much as having a stud TE would make a real difference, I think bring a “superstar” into the locker room could be a real negative. Let’s keep pushing with these guys!

Experts such as those at ESPN predicted the Falcons would finish 5-11. They are right on schedule to meet that prediction and I have 8-more reasons why:

1. EAGLES 2. SAINTS 3. BRONCOS 4. CAROLINA 5. CHARGERS 6. SAINTS 7. TAMPA BAY 8. MINNESOTA

You idiots are parading around like you have accomplished something. The only thing you have accomplished is pay a BUST 72-Million dollars to equal last season’s pathetic season. He is just a fill in until the real quarterback arrives in July 2009 and the dome will fill up again.

New England is proving that having a good QB can make or break a season. I don’t know about anybody else but it’s nice to have a Falcon QB who can actually PASS. 3rd and long used to be pretty much a wash but now, I believe that we can actually get the ball to a receiver. I’m not sure how many wins we’ll get but every one is gravy. Next year is going to be the real deal.

You will never cease to amaze me at your complete narrowminded ignorance. Matt Ryan is looking at rookie of the year as far as the NFL Network and ESPN report, did Vick do that?

ATL should be able to split New Orleans, beat TB, Carolina, Minn, and there is always the possibility of beating the Eagles (they lost to WASH who lost to the Rams Sunday).

We have a real team, that has moved on from the Vick era. Done. All there is to it. He is no more here in Atlanta, the franchise has forgotten him, and soon even fans like you will stop bringing his lying, good for nothing name up. You will realize it very soon, I think it is time for a reality check for you sir…

Here’s a quick reality check for you: Matt Ryan has already TRUMPED Ryan Leaf’s record as a rookie, Matt Ryan’s team is 4-2, Ryan Leaf’s team was 1-5. Suck on that one for a while…all of YOUR credibility is now revoked (well, it already was, but is that more not credible now)

However the manner in which they won was surprising. What’s Houston thinking? I don’t see the playoffs because we don’t rush the passer or get enough turnovers.

Coach of the Year? Bobby P. for taking that tired act to Arkansas. Could you imagine Ryan being coached by that maniac? It’s fun to have some positive buzz about the team and not thinking as we have for so many years that once the game starts we’ll find a way to lose it.

We are 1/3 through the season and have twice wins I figured we would have at this point. Love seeing those recievers laying out for catches and actually making them. That speaks volumes for the coaching. Matt looks solid. Dont expect him to be the savior, or even the focus of the O, every week (1st ballot HOF?!!? um…little early on that call dontcha think) but its has certainly been a lot of fun to watch him grow and succeed to this point.

D needs some help. Grimes was outplayed and that offsides penalty was a big reason why we were in the hole with 11 left. Good to see Anderson have a big day. Hope he can keep it up. Rough schedule as RC likes to point out but 3-5 wins is doable with the progress we have made and the reality that we have very competent coaches in charge of the wheel. I projected 5 wins as a good sign of growth before game 1. Now? 8 would be excellent.

Probably not a playoff contender in this division this year but competent, solid and at times exciting. Cant wait to see Dimitri’s draft class next year. Stave off injury, keep learning and growing. Go Falcons!

For some reason, he keeps listing the teams on the schedule as if they’re comparable to the ‘72 dolphins, ‘85 bears, etc. -give me a freakin’ break, that junk is getting so old. i know you’re probably bitter about a few things, so now you’re taking shots at a dedicated, humble, respected-by-his-veteran-teammates kid like matt ryan and calling him ryan leaf. its funny that you’re negative crybaby attitude resembles mr. leaf far more than the man that you try to belittle. You should ask ryan’s teammates about how they feel about him, what’s he already done, and what they think he’ll be. You cling on to bucs and panthers games, with no regard that it was the kid’s 2nd AND 4th game EVER, as if thats all you got. trust me, can’t wait for the bucs and panthers to come to dome! matty ice will have alot more experience and you’ll see that the learning curve is on an upswing. But based on how you assess people, -Vick sucks! He couldnt do squat versus a good bears defense, he got owned by tampa everytime we played down there, and the eagles made him look like a one-dimensional hack in that conference championship. and i was a vick fan! take your hate out on someone and somewhere else. Sorry man, you probably need a dose of reality yourself and a hug.

Reality Check do us all a favor and shut the frak up, stop blogging unless you have something credible to say.

I expect to see your a&& here at the end of the season if the Falcons end up with an 8-8 record or better and apologize for being an obnoxious and ignorant son of a gun.

Why gloat now with 10 games left to play?

Oh yeah, I get it. Matty Ice is already better than your precious levenworth panther QB was in his rookie year.

Get over it! He’s finished. Either support this Falcons team, or get the hell out.

Funny how one person here is calling Ryan a 72 millon dollar bust. Doesn’t seem like a bust so far to real fans or this city.

Don’t recall someone being in the running for rookie of the year much of a bust. Don’t recall a player helping his team to a 4-2 record to start the year a bust.

If your going to call Matt Ryan a 72 million dollar bust…or Ryan Leaf of all people please bring something to the table to back up your opinion. So far you haven’t so it is you that looks like the idiot.

Giving someone 130 million dollars to play 30 games seems more like a bust to me than calling Ryan a bust.

man what a win ! Falcons not only on emotional high but, in the right direction. Mike Smith and that other Mike from New England have really put us ona bonified bandwagon great draft great pickups…If we can just get that defensive secondary to stay focused we’ll be ok the rest of the way..The next 2 games r very much games we can win.

This is the early stage of the Atlanta dynasty. I know you all are thinking that, and I’m gonna go ahead and say it. The ‘91 Braves went from worst to first with a smart, down-to-earth, player’s coach at the helm, and a generous owner who finally found the humility to let a general manager with a pinpoint-precise eye for talent take the lead. If everyone stays healthy, and we add another receiver, bolster the secondary and defensive line, the golden years will begin…

DETROIT/KC/CHICAGO - DYNASTY VICTORIES?

Well when you are used to 4-12 records, I suppose simple minds like simple results.

Beat a quality team, then you may have done something, until then you are still measuring against MV7 and that will be a losing fight every time.

SURE HE KILLED DOGS - SO WHAT? THEY ARE WORTHLESS ANIMALS ANYWAY. OH I’M SORRY DID I OFFEND SOMEONE’S CHILD :)

I’ll say what most of you are thinking: Yes African Americans are gifted athletes and there will never be another MV7, BUT DON’T WORRY HE WILL BE BACK TO REPLACE THE “FILL-IN” :)

HOW MANY TIMES DID YOUR OFFENSE CROSS THE GOAL LINE AGAINST TAMPA & CAROLINA

0-6 in the NFC SOUTH? They beat the weak and has beens, but when a real team like Carolina and Tampa, they nut up like a stupid dog sniffing each other’s butt and by the way, they should be fighting to earn their keeps.

Chicago of 2006 had a top tier defense - they are rebuilding this year and is evident by their losses to the other NFC South teams, whom shut down Atlanta in both games.

EAGLES 2. SAINTS 3. BRONCOS 4. CAROLINA 5. CHARGERS 6. SAINTS 7. TAMPA BAY 8. MINNESOTA

Hey Reality_Check,

Were you the one at the Dome on Sunday screaming the Falcons would never win without Mike Vick, and wearing a ratty shirt that you idiotically painted with what looked like lipstick “Free Mike Vick” all over it? Did you see the score?

Even if you aren’t him, please leave our city. Check out Leavenworth in Kentucky, seems like you’d fit right in. Your negativity is appalling. In America, if you break the law, you go to jail. Also, if you plead guilty, you did it. I am sorry he let you down so much. Is his jersey not as warm when you sleep in it each night?

Don’t be afraid to seek help. The hardest part of life is admitting you have a problem.

GO FALCONS!!! Black, white, red, blue, and anything in between, we will continue to make our city proud as a team - win or lose - for once in too many years.

Chicago AKA Ryan sucks AKA Vick Suporter 2

man you get dumber with each post.

Half the teams you Post have .500% records. One of them has the worse defense in the NFL.

You making excuses for Chicago??? Last week you said Chicago would drill Atlanta. But now your saying Chicago is rebuilding. Your a moron dude. If Atlant would have lost you would have said told you so. But once they won your now making excuses for the team they beat, and calling on the 2 teams that Atlant lost to to back up your post.

Nobody is measuring anything against Vick. he was a good QB. and an even better athlete.

However the simple truth is you can’t stand to see a white QB doing well in Alanta taking th place of a black QB. It;s not just about killing dogs. you may not like dogs but who cares. He was running an interstate gambling ring which is a crime…along with dog fighting which is a crime. But you know who cares it;s only the law right? Oh did i offend law obiding people probably like your parents:) My bad.

Matt Ryan is no fill in. You know it and I know it. Ryan isn’t going anywhere and it makes you so mad you can’t stand it. It’s ok dude. every Sunday you can at least go out side and use your anger to kill a dog or something

What you fail to realize is….Harrington was the fill in.

It’s been said before, but I’ll add my two cents. Regardless of whether the Birds make the playoffs or not, the Falcons have done an awesome job. The players play and act like pro football players, the talent level has improved tremendously with just one draft. I am completely behind TD and Coach Smith, I love what they are doing. Is it too early to talk about Coach Smith for Coach of the Year honors?

reality check: Chicago is the 7th best scoring defense; 12th best in yards per game; not really that much of a fall off from 2006; you’re just wrong on Chicago; they’re 11th in scoring offense and 13th in yards per game on offense; again you’re just wrong; can’t be fun being wrong all the time;

I remember Bobby Cox saying, after the Braves finished ‘worst’ in 1990, “We lost 40 (something like that) 1-run games this year. If we can win 20 of those next year, we will be in contention.” They won the division the next year and went to the World Series.

I remember Hubie Brown saying, “As a philosophy, we know there are 5 game we will have no chance of winning (blowouts). Likewise, there are 5 games will will not be able to lose, just because things always work out that way. Its the other games you have to try hardest to win; and if you are competitive in those games, your chances of making it to the playoffs are good.”

The point is, the Falcons have been better than they were last year; but last year was a bust. If the Falcons lose every game the rest of this season, but take each loss down to the wire, the real test will be next year. Even if the Falcons win so many games this year that they make it to the playoffs, the real test will be next year. And after next year, the greatest test will be the season after that. This franchise does not need one come-from-behind win, it needs to gain respect, by showing the league - if you beat the Falcons, you brought your A-game.

Where the Falcons need to be careful (and their fans) is thinking its too easy. Just because Matt Ryan is a rookie playing like a veteran, don’t take that for granted. We need 10-15 years of Matt Ryan playing like a veteran, because he is one, not like one; and that stage won’t begin until next year. For it to last that long, the coaching needs to be stable, with the players playing as a team, not me-first prima donnas. That is what we should be celebrating now, because that is what makes Matt Ryan appear to be playing like a veteran.

Reality Check

Believe it or not I am a MV7 fan, and I’m a white guy. The reality is that he probably won’t be back as our quarterback next year. I enjoy watching him play as much as you do, but after everything that has happened there is no need to bring him back to ruin the chemistry that seems to be growing between the team now. All the media attention, the questions, all of that type of stuff are viewed as distractions to the team. We seem to both be Falcons fans, and all these years that we have watched 16 games of pitiful football we finally have a little bit of hope. Enjoy the moment. I do however think that you are a little misguided if you actually believe that those teams or 8 games are un-winnable. I think that they all are within reach of winning. Tampa is a joke (they aren’t that good), Carolina is probably one of the best defenses we will play, and New Orleans Brees may throw all over us like he does everybody (what’s their record?). We can easily win any one of these games. If you really think that MV7 is the answer ask yourself this…How many Super Bowls did he win in 6 or 7 years? Who care’s about an NFC Championship game (I went to the one in Philly and he looked like s**t in it). If it’s a black and white thing for you, you ought to be happy because we have a white quarterback again. Chandler actually took us to the Super Bowl.

give me a break…* anyone who would rather have Michael it’s all about me Vick over Matt Ryan is a freaking idiot. I don’t care about skin color, Matt is a better QB RIGHT NOW than Vick ever was. MV did make alot of great plays, but he hurt alot more than helped with stupid interceptions and costly fumbles. He did not want to admit that he had an OL (he needed a step-ladder to see over them anyway) because it was always about him being “superman.” Even in his fifth year in the NFL, he could not read a defense and make the correct audibles like Matt Ryan can RIGHT NOW. So, all you haters and whiners just **shut up and take a back seat on the MR02 band wagon.

Donald Trump owned Herschel Walker, on a ‘personal services’ clause, even after that Pretend Football League folded. Blank owns Vick, so if Vick can’t swallow his pride and return kickoffs, while training to play cornerback, then he can wear a dog collar and leash, and let Arthur walk him down to the sidelines at the end of a game, until his contract runs out. That might fill the seats, either way.

I am a Vick supporter both on and off the field. Up until Sunday, I thought Vick would be back in a Falcons’ jersey next year. Now I know that ain’t gonna happen, AND I AM COOL WITH THAT. I sincerely hope Arturious is not crazy enough to let any NFC team (forget the NFC South) to end up with Vick. I do not want to have to deal with him as a nemesis multiple times a year.

For those of you who hate him so very very much, you will never have to deal with him (on your team) again, so you have absolutely no reason to engage in any more Vick bashing. And you can be a Falcons fan without hating on Mike Vick. In fact, a real Falcons’ fan has absolutely no reason to hate on Vick.

For those of us that love him, it is indeed over, he isn’t going to play for the Birds again. Arthur was waiting to see if Matt Ryan would work out, and it looks like he will be good enough; he may turn into something truly special.

YOU CAN BE A MIKE VICK FAN WITHOUT HATING ON THE FALCONS. THEY ARE NOT MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE. Let the Vick haters have their haterade party. Let them pretend that Vick was not the football god we all know him to be. I know it p** you off when the knuckleheads and closet klansmen say things like “now we have a real QB”, but show some class and let it go. He will show all the haters the deal very shortly; there’s no need to challenge the revisionist history of the Vick haters. Let’s move on, shall we?

For those of you who think it’s too early to be talking about the playoffs; WHAT THE HELL?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!!! All good teams start thinking about the playoffs in the preseason. It must be a clearly defined goal if you intend to achieve it. So of course the Falcons should be thinking and talking about the playoffs. I personally think they can win each and every remaining game, especially the Division games at the Dome. It would not surprise me if this team went 14-2; I expect no less than 10-6.

So what, we have a young team? Does than mean they can’t win? Obviously not. Should we place all our hopes on future years, when who knows what the team will look like; or should we, just like the players, have every intention of maximizing our potential THIS YEAR? There isn’t one good reason why this Falcon’s team isn’t this year’s worst to first story. A Dynasty is something that I will be patient and wait for, this team is more than ready for a winning season and a playoff run right now.

All the nonsense about we haven’t beaten a good team, is b******, because if those teams had beat us they would all have winning records and be considered elite teams, but since they lost to the Birds, all of a sudden they are garbage? They are all NFL teams and all of them have a chance every game.

And stop worrying about our secondary. Houston made a huge mistake (and then the Chicago DB made the exact same mistake, jumping a non-existant underneath route), and I’m willing to take bets he won’t make that one again this year. Other than that, both CB’s played excellent, and Grimes is improving visibly every single game.

to Reality Check:

You’re an idiot

“tennis- the williams sisters”

are you serious? Neither of them are number one. They play like 4 tournaments a year. That is a terrible comparison. How about Nadal, or Federer. Please where is your man on that list? He doesn’t exist. Quit trying to make this such a race issue. You’re such a douche-bag.

On basketball- how about the multiple MVP’s and titles of Steve Nash, Ginoble (white and latino players) or Dirk (german)….

and on football, give me a break= you’re not gonna mention Brady, or either of the Mannings, and the last time I checked it was those dudes winning the superbowl, not LT or Moss or Peterson. You ignorant little B&%^$!

Oh and where’s baseball on your list?

Couldn’t think of anyone there? Baseball is full of athletes from all over the world. Quit acting like only black athletes are worth while because the last time I checked the patriots weren’t an all black team when they won all those titles. People like you are what keep racism afloat. It’s not just these rednecks, but also ignorant a* biggots like yourself. There’s no such thing as reverse racism, you’re just a blatant racist. You give black people a bad name and you need to shut your biggoted mouth. When this nation has come far enough to be in the runnings for a black president and we have you blabbing anti-white racists banter it’s really disturbing. How do you expect rednecks and other racists to change when you’re just as bad. What if you’re just as ignorant do they balance each other out? The Falcons are great because they’re a diverse team in a diverse city. I went to the game at KC, and I did not feel any hate. As a white guy I was the minority at the game, did I care no. Everyone treated me well, like family. If only you could have the same attitude, then maybe we could actually see some progress on race relations in Atlanta.

Pull your head out of your rear long enough to look around you and see that the world doesn’t just revolve around you. Just in case you didn’t know, there are other people and cultures. Someone should make you sterile for the benefit of mankind. I hope you can one day get over this hate you have towards white people. Some of them are total racists douchebags. I hate rednecks and ignorant people. But, cmon, the stuff you have said is the black equivalent to nazis and white supremacy. And furthermore, take that……zing!!!!!!!!!

YOU IDIOTS ARE HILARIOUS

Let’s me get this straight: Your team gets in the RED ZONE 5-times and you only get 4-field goals and a 3-yard toss

That is some “HALL OF FAME STUFF” :)

Karma or irony, which ever way you choose to spin it, the one thing you brain dead idiots complained about is coming home to roost.

You complained about him running and not staying in the pocket, well now you will be on the other side of the ball and he will be driving your defensive coordinator crazy because you know their is nobody on this sorry team that is fast enough to stop him.

NEXT ON SPORTSCENTER—- VICK RETURNS TO THE DOME WITH THE PANTHERS AND SETS A CAREER HIGH IN RUSHING, PASSING YARDS AND TOUCHDOWNS…..COULD IT BE HE FINALLY GOT A REAL SET OF RECEIVERS AND LINE?

So I’m basically just ignoring the newer blog post. Not really interested in the racism that will be in teh comments and I don’t really care where Vick ends up. I wish him well, but I dont really care other than that.

I’m kind of glad we didn’t get in on the Tony GOnzalez sweepstakes. As well as this team has played, it still has a lot of holes to fill and I just think the price would have been too high for tony gonzalez. We need to keep building through the draft. I love this team, but talent wise, its playing over its head a bit right now. We will really need the mid-round draft pick or (two) we would have had to give up for TG.

We still need a lot of help on defense. I’d rather have a first round defensive pick than TG. I’d like a nice playmaking tight end, sure, but I want one that is going to grow up in this orginization and do things the Mike Smith way.
