Fast Friday is over, now it’s game time

The Falcons just finished their final practice before the Thomas Dimitroff and Mike Smith era gets underway at the Georgia Dome on Sunday.

“Fast Fridays” is what they call it. That’s where players work fast and get ready for game day speed.

The Falcons are slated to send 11 different starters onto the field on offense and defense, including three rookies: quarterback Matt Ryan, left tackle Sam Baker and middle linebacker Curtis Lofton.

Other new starters from last season’s regular season finale are right guard Harvey Dahl (for Kynan Forney), tight end Ben Hartsock (Alge Crumpler), wide receiver Michael Jenkins (Joe Horn), running back Michael Turner (Warrick Dunn), defensive tackle Grady Jackson (Montavious Stanley) weakside linebacker Keith Brooking (Demorrio Williams), left cornerback Brent Grimes (DeAngelo Hall) and free safety Erik Coleman (Chris Crocker).

Other new players who could make contributions against Detroit are wide receiver Harry Douglas and defensive tackle Kindal Moorehead.

The Lions are coming off a 7-9 season, but have an established quarterback in Jon Kitna and talented wide receivers in Roy Williams and Calvin Johnson. The defense is anchored by linebacker Ernie Sims.

How do you think the Falcons are going to fare in their opener in the renovated Georgia Dome? Tailgating? Staying at the house to watch it on television since it’s a sellout.

Go ahead a put down your final score, too!

For the Falcons to win they will have to effectively run the ball, convert on 3nd dn and control the clock. On DEF, they’ll have to pressure the QB and play solid run DEF. If they can successfully do those things, they’ll win. If not, they’ll lose. It’s just that simple. Oh yes, special teams play will be a factor as well.

The falcons are a much better team this year for a lot of reasons. Detroit did not make a lot of solid changes. The birds will win this one 20-17. I hope!

We will score 3 points in the first half, and be down 10-3. We will score 3 points in the second half and lose 27-6. Get use to it, rookie qb - no offense. We will stick with Ryan, but Redman or Shockley should in there to start the year - not a rookie. typical Falcons stupidity.

The thing about Pro Ball is that its just about the Wins/Loses.

When I am competing, I hate losing more than I Love winning.

What I will be looking at for the Month of September is for the Team to Gel and play Smart Ball. Wins be dammed!

We want consistent play by the middle of October and November…

I want to see these boys scratching, clawing and to the point of tears for a Win in September. Then start feeding them Raw meat with gunpowder for October and November…I want em Mean and Nasty.

Lawyer said it best. Just go knock the crap outta somebody, I will clean things up! Talk about a mean streak! Dammmmmm!

Falcons are going to lose, I hate to say it, but they will… I just hope that we can get some passing yards, I know our running game will be our main focus, and so does detriot, hopefully we will be facing a bunch of 3 and 3’s, instead of 3rd and 10’s! Matt has proven that he is consistant with those dump out passes, unlike the passes that are 10 yards or more!! Maybe Turner can bust a few 60 yarders to ensure at least a field goal or two!!!

Birds pull away with a win in this one. Will be close im sure, though the Burner didnt get too many shots this preseason to REALLY get it going. We will finally see what that man can do. I agree with the two rushing TD’s from Turner. I say 17-9.

Thanks, Orlando for the great week-long Falcon Preview Series. Looks like Falcons 17-14. Ryan will throw 3 TD, but penalties will negate two. We will run two more TD in, but penalties will negate these too. Fortunately not everything is cancelled out. Elam is still limbering up, and makes 1of2 FG tries. Grimes gets his hands on 8 defenses, and holds on to two of them. Biermann need oxygen after running 200 yds in the Lions’ backfield. Abraham gets 2 sacks. Anderson also almost get credit for 2 sacks, but they were negated by penalties. DL gets the game ball.

That whole ‘Homer’ thing is confusing. So, I’m a fan of my team…right?…and I believe then can win…right?…but you say they suck…right?…

Dude, I think the word you’re looking for is ‘FAN’, not ‘HOMER.’ Homer is the main character on the Simpsons, and he loves donuts. A FAN is someone who backs their team and supports them thru thick and thin. BANDWAGONING is the art of supporting your team thru thick, and talking crap about them thru thin. And for the record, you’re a ‘BANDWAGONER,’ therefore you can kiss my ‘BUTT’ cause everyone knows that if you’re here writing stuff now about how bad these guys are you’ll be back at the next 3 game win streak talking about how you been hardcore since the Gritz Blitz. YOU PEOPLE ARE HIGH: Lions 37 Falcons 10

By Orlando

September 5, 2008 6:14 PM | Link to this

The key for this game is going to be the Falcons front seven against Detroit’s running game. If Kevin Smith gets into a groove, the veteran Kitna will be able to keep the Falcons’ secondary on its heels. Atlanta’s LB corps seems to have improved and will need to stop the run early and often.

Too many people are focusing on Matt Ryan’s performance as the key to the game. I disagree, Turner will be the person to watch. I believe as the game wears on and as long as the Falcons commit to the run Detroit will be worn out by the 4th quarter, where the Norwood-Turner duo will be able to finish the deal.

The loss of Shaun Rogers will hurt the Lions’ front four more than they realize, and the return of Grady Jackson will help bolster the front line of the Falcons. All that will lead to a surprising 20-14 Falcons win.

Ken are you secretly John Madden? this is such a Madden thing to say in order to win the falcons offense must gain yardage and make first downs and the defense must stop the run and pass oh and special teams is thrown in there too! Lol I do agree if the falcons offense scores more points then the falcons defense and special teams allows then the falcons will win.

By Ken Strickland

September 5, 2008 8:52 PM | Link to this

DYLAN-first, you criticize my assessment of what the Falcons must do to win. Then you turn around and basically agree with my assessment. The Falcons OFF doesn’t have to score for them to win. The team can win if the DEF scores and prevents their OFF from out scoring them.

Some of you are so sold on the Lions WR’s that you can’t seem to think straight. As talented, great and downright overwhelming as some of you seem to think they are, they couldn’t help the Lions do better than 7-9. It takes more than a pair of talented WR’s and an accurate QB to be a successful team. We’re not a great team. I can’t be certain if we’ll be a good team, but we’ll be better than last yrs team. We’ll all get an idea this Sunday.

This is hot off the prophecy press: (imaginary ticker noise in background)

Detroit scores late in the 2nd quarter, just before halftime, taking a 14-3 lead at the break. It goes to 21-6 by the beginning of the 4th quarter. Defensive backfield breakdowns lead to two more long passing score for Kitna, to Johnson and Williams. 35 unanswered points put game out of reach, 35-6. With 7 minutes still left to play, Redmon comes in and gets a mop-up TD to White (2 yd pass on 4th down). Final score: 35 - 13.

Matt Ryan stats: 10 of 24, for 86 yards, with 1 int., sacked 3 times, fumbled 2 (lost 1, own 1). Redmon will end up 7 of 8 for 56 yards, 1 TD, 0 int., 0 sacks. Net passing yards: 126 (14 yards lost in sacks)

Turner will rush 20 times for 67 yards, with a 45 yard run erased by a facemask penalty. Norwood rushes 8 times for 16 yards, with one run of 22 yards erased by penalty (holding). Team total rushing: 101 yards.

Falcons penalized 10 times for 90 yards.

Detroit held to 89 yards rushing; but 3 long pass plays (74, 62, & 58 yards) will take Kitna to 389 total passing yards. Falcons sack him 2 times (for 10 yards lost passing).

Headline: Opening Day Jitters Summary: For 58 minutes this was a 14-13 game. However, in 2 minutes the Lions blitz Falcons 21-0. Result: Redmon starts vs. Tampa Bay

(tickertape noise) correction: Detroit scores before halftime to take a 14-6 lead. Score goes 3-0 Falcons; 3-7 Lions; 6-7 Lions, then 6-14; 6-21; 6-28; 6-35; 13-35. (tickertape silence) That is all.

Please explain to me how we are worse off this year than we were last year…

We don’t have Joey anymore first off.

Secondly, Smitty is 100 times the NFL coach Petrino was…

Thirdly, Alge is easily replaced, Dunn was past his day (love the guy though), Grimes will be better than Hall because he actually puts his hands on it, Grimes will play ahead of Hall in the Pro Bowl in time, and Roddy White is only going to get better with a more accurate passer in the pocket…

So I am interested, are we worse because we got rid of all of the hewhomustnotbenamed thugs???? Is that why you are having problems coping with hewhomustnotbenamed’s demise????

Orlando, I will be there to witness the WIN, at 21-17 Falcons….

Based on the foolish Falcon predictions on this blog, it is apparent that the local TRAILER PARKS are having a blue light special on crack! Hey “GOTECH610” I think your double wide is missing a wheel.

When are you fools going to realized that Joey Harrington, Matt Ryan & Ryan Leaf are one in the same - BUSTS! The Mike Vick curse can’t be lifted - there will never be another winning season for this franchise until it’s sold.

Had a record of 4-12 in 2007 and the NFL NETWORK is predicting 3-13, now that doesn’t take a math wiz to realize that is worst than 4-12.

Calvin Johnson is going to score points like a moonshine convention in the local trailer parks. Go Detroit and everybody else the Falcons face!!!!!

I Love ARTHUR BLANK!!! I have to say that 1st having suffered through the Rankin Smith(RIP) & Jr’s era-those basrds!!!All I have to say about how horrible of an ownership they were is, How in the hell does #21(primetime) ever wear another jersey, even after he(#21) stated he Wanted to stay in ATL!!! This is the state of the Falcons. I come at you with FACTS!!!! First of all, the corporate sponsors “sold out” the dome, not the fans. Secondly Matt Ryan is being HYPED UP by the Atlanta Media(Explaination under blog titled”Trust your Eyes on Ryan”). Third, DJ Shockley is, at this moment, a better QB than both Redman and Ryan, Check entire career(College and Pro)base decisions on facts not potential, and even at that, DJ still has more potential than the R Bros. Fourth, MV7 will play in the NFL again!! He also should get a second chance with ATL. The reason I love AB is that he did something different with this organization!! This is a FAMILY!!! so no matter what your family member does, he is always what?-yo Family!! Hopefully, ATL will welcome MV7 back home!!! MV7 is a “special athlete”, just like #21-character aside. I said special ATHLETE(not person)!!! Vick didn’t send the team into failure, in fact, he was soooo good that he was able to mask the teams’ deficiencies!!! I saw a dumba*s blogger say that running QB’s dont win!!can you blve that?!! Okay, so Steve Young didnt win, Steve McNair didn’t win, D.McNabb doesn’t win, VY doesn’t win, MV7 didn’t win…sounds assinine doesn’t it!!! Hate him or Love him(as do I)MV7 wins ball games!!!!!! The Falcons need a winner, that is what is going to pack the stands, not an all-american LOOKALIKE!! DAMN IMAGE win ball games!!! After MV7 has paid his retribution to society, let’s Welcome him back with open arms-what would that say about the Character of the Falcons organization, the Falcons Fans—HIGH CLASS!!! And don’t try to say that he killed dogs, well guess what you GAME HUNTERS, YOU KILL TOO(animalSSS(plural) more than one type of species at that!!), so how in the FK r you going to turn your nose up to MV7!!! get outta here. Mr. Blank, sir please allow MV7 to come back it will be a win-win for you, the Falcons, the Fans, and Humaity!!!

Moving foward, I still support the team, but when M.V. get out of incarceration, i will be the first to toss him his jersey and tell him “get back on th field please and stay out of trouble.” That’s right we have our own Brett Farve type down here! Hot wings, Murphy’s Stout and Falcons opening day football! Our team is much improved from last year across the board, well except for tight end. Crumpler will be missed for a while. I also wish we could have retained Dunn as a third back but I really like the guys we have. That said, I think Ryan will play well in his rookie season and Turner and Norwood will have a great year. Grimes is a welcome replacement for Hall. Hall talked a better game than he played. For every good play he made, he got torched on 5 others. Grimes will be a future star. This year is the year he learns. The Falcons are on the way back and I think this year will be fun to watch!

And we won how many games with Vick before he got himself in trouble?

It’s funny how when a guy like Vick gets himself into trouble, everybody wants to identify with the perpetrator and crucify the victim…sick, sick, sick. Like telling a rape victim that they wanted it to happen…

And in entertainment, image is everything. You can talk about winning all you want. You win, and your image improves.

RAY - Take that victim crap on Dr. Phil. They are stupid animals, just like the deer, moose, marlins that are proudly show cased on walls. Legal or not, God won’t ask for your license when your time is up. We have a little 3-year old girl that has been murdered and her remains burned and the stupid killer has been bailed out 3 times and she is a human loss. So all you Vick bashers are really the losers when you cry about stupid dogs when human murders are walking free.

By ray

September 6, 2008 1:27 PM | Link to this

Unbiased Blogger, I wasn’t talking about dogs in particular. I was talking about crimes in particular.

Vick got convicted for something that isn’t debatable, according to written law. He should’ve known better. Hunting is not illegal right now. That’s the fundamental difference, regardless of where your philosophical views lie.

As for murderers and the like, I agree most wholeheartedly. But like I said, people always want to make the case about the perpetrator while forgetting the victim. Considering that I’ve been in law enforcement for nearly ten years, I think I can identify rather well with the situation.

I regret the loss of any innocent human life, and far so more than I do any animal life. But WHAT does that have to do with yammering all the time about a guy who got convicted for something that is a known crime? The world isn’t fair, and neither is justice. Nothing like seeing the guy you just put in jail staring you in the face the next evening at a restaurant or some other place…

What’s ironic is that you haven’t said one damn word about the 3-year old girl until somebody bashes Vick, whom you can’t seem to stop talking about. Yeah, I think I know which one you’re more concerned about…

By ray

September 6, 2008 1:39 PM | Link to this

In fact, I don’t know which sycophantic bi@ching is worse: the people crying about the dogs (most of them are still alive and healthy) or those whining about a guy getting convicted for a KNOWN crime. Pathetic.

And I’ll say it again: all philosophy aside…if hunting is against the law, then it’s just as wrong as the crimes Vick was convicted of. But it ain’t. Neither is fishing. Too bad, so sad, get the hell over it.

Or is this another Dorothy case? I know, we’ll all click our heels together at the same time, sign laws that say the killing of any animal for any reason, or by any method is now illegal. Guess what? Now we can’t have steak, burgers, chicken, fish or anything else…..aaaaaaaaand….Vick would still be in prison. And we’d be eating lettuce all day every day. Or, we’ll sign laws into effect that allow the killing of anything at any time (long as it’s not human) and that will get Vick set free, right? Sheeesh…

Exactly what is it that makes some of you think you can determine whether Shockey ia a better QB than Ryan and vise versa. Neither QB has done enough at this point and at this level to prove beyond a doubt that any of you are correct. MRyan’s position on this team is as much a matter of finances/investment/promotion/image as overall ability. Shockey was a 1yr UGA starter that has spent more time on IR than on the field aince graduation. Some of the comments and opinions presented by some of you UGA fans shows you more as embarrassments than fans. Get real for a change.

UNBIASED BLOGGER-I understand where you’re comming from on certain matters. Instead of taking an either or position, why not be sympathetic to the plight of both human and other animal suffering. For those who seem obsessed with the plight of MVick’s mistreatment of dogs, consider this. During slavery, human beings(slaves) were fought and often subjected to the same mistreatment and fate MVick’s dogs received. CHECK OUT AN OLD MOVIE CALED MANDINKA, STARRING FRED WILLIAMSON AND BRENDA SYKES?

As far as the Falcons are concerned UNBIASED, you are as far out of touch as some of the posters you redicule. Nobody but MVick, and certain of his friends and relatives, are responsible for him being in prison rather than the QB of the Falcons. It was his dumba$$ decision to engage in an illegical activity and associate with friends and relatives that turned state and federal evidence against him. His plight has absolutely nothing to do with trailor park inhabitants. Your comments on this particular matter is more a reflection on you than anyone else.

Come on man, you’re not a dumba$$ by a long shot.

Get a thesaurus,or a GED, your continued use of “worst” is harming your viewpoints. It may not take a “math wiz” to figure out 3-13 is worse than 4-12, but it only takes a second grader to know the difference in the 2 words.

It’s nice to see so many “Unbiased_Blogger” copy cats, but make no mistake, there is only one and that position is filled.

It amazes me, as a military veteran, who actually got off my butt and joined the military to fight for the right to express my views.

You idiots comdemn MV7 for something that we all know had nothing to do with your opinions of him. You are straight up racial uneducated incest participants - at least Hitler didn’t hide behind the computer with the same idiotic views on human life.

No matter how many times I misuse grammar, you will still be the same old crack heads. From Dominique Wilkings, Deon Sanders, Michael Vick, Ron Gant, David Justice, Fred McGriff, they all had one thing in common - They won games.

Take the Braves for example: The last time they actually won anything was when they had Fred McGriff, David Justice, Marquis Grissom - I think you see where I am going and now there are no African Americans on the team and you see how that experiment has turned out.

Then you have all the marquee players like Vick, Crumpler, Duckett, D Hall off the roster and 4-12 & 2-12 records later. Enjoy your success :)

No one disputes your right to post your stupidity. We just like to make fun of you because you are a dope. You’re clearly not racist to any extent either so I can see why you would be upset with all white people since they are all crack smoking trailer dwellers. All demographic studies clearly show this to be true It isn’t to much surprise you’re a vet. Boot camp or jail is a common plea bargain.

I do like your statement that you are out in front while the rest of the world hides behind a computer. Why don’t you leave your name and location since you’re so willing to unmask yourself. Which overpass do you keep your house/box under? Better yet just go to the dome and yell out who you are and invite everyone to drop some coins in your jar. Really, whats the worse that could happen.

Speaking of position being filled. Doc Johnson would like to thank you for your willingness and stamina in testing out the new “convick” line. Heard you took it like a champ.

2008 forecast Vic Carucci: Rookie Matt Ryan is in for a long season of growing pains. Michael Turner’s running will help, but first-year coach Mike Smith has his hands full as an enormous rebuilding process begins. Prediction: 3-13

Thomas George: Wait ‘till next year … or the year after … or the year after … Prediction: 3-13

Pat Kirwan: This is a rebuilding project and will take time. The quarterback is a rookie and the team didn’t inject enough talent into its 29th-ranked defense. The Falcons repeat their 2008 record. Prediction: 3-13

Gil Brandt: After a disastrous 2007 season, the team made some very good additions via draft and free agency. But it’s hard to begin such a major team overhaul without some growing pains. Prediction: 3-13

I must admit you got mad skills. This is reflected in your constant need to reiterate (oops another thesaurus word for you, sorry) word. It’s tough to dodge a draft that didn’t exist in my lifetime, but why let that spoil another of your well thought out posts. . Maybe if there was a draft during my life, I like you, could have carved out a nice career washing dishes and mopping floors. The double wide references are tired, tedious and boring. I know you’re clinging to low single digit IQ points and new material is difficult, but I would appreciate it if you could develop some new form of original thought because I am losing the pleasure in playing with you’re fragile little intellect when you are so redundant.. There’s only so much you can say to a simpleton. So please come up with another new and well crafted theme. You know demonstrate some of that change you speak of. The funny thing is - who cares if the Falcons go 0-16. For a lot of us, sports is a mindless diversion. Well, you can always count on at least one fool derailing what started out as a football conversation with his own mental, emotional, and who knows what else personal agendas.

Has there been a military draft in the last couple of decades or so? Didn’t think so.

Gosh, I didn’t know we were all white, inbred trailer park inhabitants. Ken, did you know that? And here I was thinking I was black. Guess I missed the memo….

I can’t help but laugh at somebody that gets on a blog and tells everybody else that they are cowards for stating their opinions while hiding behind a computer screen. And then stating that he is doing so from out west. Hilarious. Didn’t have the fortitude to stick it out in the dirty south for whatever reason (uhhh…I heard there are redneck types out west too, so you better be careful buddy), and wants to talk smack on a computer from several state lines away. Hee, hee! Oh such bravery knows no peer! Kinda like the stove burner calling the pot AND the kettle black…

Anyway…..

Hoping for a win and a good overall showing today. What’s bad is that there kind of is a no-win situation for some people. If we win, it will be labeled a fluke by some. If we lose, then the same people will say that we’re not going to win a game all season. Well, less than 6 hours to go. Should be interesting…

RAY-I looked really hard and I’m certain my house didn’t come with wheels. I have an uncle, through marriage, that grew up on a farm in the poorest county in AL. His 2 older brothers booked as soon as they were old enough to join the military. That left him as the only remaining male, along with 6 sisters, to carry most of the weight. He tried to hide it, but he was always embarrassed by his origins. In fact, he was so embarrassed, and motivated by that embarrassment, he ended up leaving the farm, going to college and getting his PHD and becoming a dept head at Michigan State Univ. He’s now retired, doing consultant work for GA Tech, and living on his 7,000sf home sitting on his 20+ acre estate (his estate is rather symbolic of the farm boy he was and the metropolitan professor he became).

If anyone from his past sits down and has a conversation with him, he’ll always try to get some sort of recognition of his accomplishments. He wants you to recognize how far he’s come in relationship to where he started. He wants you to appreciate the distance.

I told that story to show how some people act or react the way they do because they are forever movitated to try and distance themselves from themselves. They don’t like what they see, or saw, in themselves. So, they try to elevate themselves, not by moving forward, but by attempting to push everyone else backwards or down. You see this constantly with people who suffer from massive inferiority complexes, especially racists of all kinds.

It seems obvious this individual is trying to elevate himself by using this forum to draw attention to himself so he can launch negative attacks on others to make himself feel better about himself. One only has to read one of his posts to realize he’s taken the bully approach. And as we all know, most bullys are really insecure cowards as heart.

I asked him to take a different approach in an earlier post, but he didn’t respond.

Both of you guys are defending your lives based on my blogs when not once did I even mention either of you in my words, however you have taken it upon yourselves to take it personal. Doesn’t feel good when you are treated with such disrespect does it? Now put your little minds into the shoes of MV7. He was attacked alot less than you “sensitive” little girls. That was my point - it was not about you or I. It was all about a “HUMAN” being destroyed because of 4-legged creatures that sniff each other’s butts. I wish all that negative energy would be spent like protesting the worthless mother in Florida that murdered an innocent child (HUMAN BEING). For the record: I wasn’t drafted - I volunteered so don’t use the there was no draft excuse. There were lots of female volunteers, so what does that say for you.

Now it’s football time and all that hype you tried to create with Ryan Leaf (Matt Ryan) it is football time and lets see that 72-million dollar man put up or shut up.

Unbiased Blogger, you are the very embodiement of negativity. Who has been more negative here than you? But that’s a futile argument, I know. I don’t have a clue? Okay, how’s this….recall your own words:

I wish all that negative energy would be spent like protesting the worthless mother in Florida that murdered an innocent child (HUMAN BEING).

You have got to be kidding me. Do I come on here and hear you preaching about the daily tragic events that occur? No, all I hear is you whining like a snot-nosed brat about Mike Vick. Then you have the audacity to compare a man convicted of a crime to people who have been the actual victim of horrible crimes. How twisted can you possibly get? You don’t care about those people, you just want to use their tragic situations to win a dumb argument. Otherwise you’d be using all your negative energy to protest those crimes instead of b!tching about Vick, now wouldn’t you? Don’t answer that, you’ll only incriminate yourself.

It was all about a “HUMAN” being destroyed because of 4-legged creatures that sniff each other’s butts.

Destroyed? Getting kicked out of the NFL and losing part of the millions you earned is NOT being destroyed in my opinion, especially if there’s any chance that he can play again. And while that’s certainly debatable, I’ll say it again: The man was convicted of doing something that is against WRITTEN LAW. If there’s any destruction here, it is he and his cohorts who are the very instruments of that destruction. I don’t have to put my mind into the shoes of Vick. I’m not stupid enough to engage in the activities he engaged in. It happened on his property. At his house. That will never happen to me because I’m not stupid enough to get into that crap, nor allow it to happen on MY property. I’m not stupid enough to ignore the law. Maybe you are, and that is why you are so ready to relate to him.

You guys don’t have a clue. Both of you guys are defending your lives based on my blogs when not once did I even mention either of you in my words, however you have taken it upon yourselves to take it personal.

I wasn’t defending my life. Wasn’t taking it personal, either. Don’t think Ken was either. I think you’re looking in the mirror again, ‘cause you’ve told more about your life than either of us. Sensitive? Hah! Not on this blog….

Then you say that it doesn’t feel good to get disrespected? Well, apparently you meant it personally after all, eh? Hell, I was just making fun of you because you didn’t name any names, so you left yourself open. But $hit, if you ask me….Ken has you pegged….and you’re clearly more sensitive than I am.

For the record: I wasn’t drafted - I volunteered so don’t use the there was no draft excuse. There were lots of female volunteers, so what does that say for you.

Yeah? So why do you keep saying “draft dodger” then? Heh…

Now it’s football time and all that hype you tried to create with Ryan Leaf (Matt Ryan) it is football time and lets see that 72-million dollar man put up or shut up.

Heh, heh, heh. Now the real truth comes out. You were in love with ol’ Mikey (hey, we all liked him…but probably not like youuuuu liked him), and now he’s gone and been “replaced” with a quarterback that happens to be white. And you hate whitey so bad you just can’t stand it. That’s what this is all about.

Well, as much fun as it’s been poking at your cheap bobble-head toy self, I gotta go. Win, lose, or draw, I’m still a Falcon fan. Enjoy getting in touch with your “destroyed” inner Vick-loving self.

UNBIASED BLOGGER-I can feel the pain and frustration in your words. You have got to let it go man. If you want to blame someone for what happened to MVick, blame MVick and his stupid friends and relatives. They are the ones that stabbed him in the back just to save themselves some jail time. MVick was a multimillionaire several times over and risked it all to finance illegal gambling and drugs. The fact he got involved and got caught was nobody’s fault but his own. Blaming people living in trailor parks is no different than confederate minded haters blaming MVick for every Falcon problem, including the DEF.

I was on this site when these confederate minded morons were coming out of the woodwork and bashing MVick. A lot of them were doing it long before the scandal became an issue. They would deliberately focus on peripheral issues, like his passing skills, or his running skills, or his alledged football IQ. They were very carefull not to address the fact he and his teams accomplished more in his 4yrs as a starter than any other Falcons QB. He has the most regular season and playoff wins, most playoff an Probowl appearances and as many conference titles as any other QB in franchise history.

These morons complained about him having so many rushing yrs compared to his passing yrs. Yet, they had nothing to say about he and his teams ability to do more running than any other Falcons QB and their team could accomplish passing.

But, that’s all history now. HE threw it all away by being stupid, irrational, and chosing to associate with the wrong people, including some of his relatives. Don’t be like him. I supported him and what he did for this team. But I will never support ignorance and/or stupidity no matter who it might be. We only have to look at the presidential election to see the impact of so much ignorance and stupidity.

I just want the team to win. No, I’m not convinced that Ryan is anything more than an expensive attempt to close an ugly chapter…but I’m open to a change of mind. Again, I just want the team to win.

Ken, your 1:19 post was terrific. I really liked Vick too, and he was absolutely electrifying on the field. Every play was cause for holding your breath, wondering what superhuman move he would do next. Just when I thought he might really be getting in a groove with his receivers, which would make his running ability that much more dangerous….he goes and did what he did. Or rather, he got caught.

I was profoundly disappointed. And like you, I can’t defend him for his own crap.

But right now…I am absolutely losing my MIND at the early WHOOPIN’ we are giving Detroit! Wow, what a running game! We are just chewing up yardage! 21-0 and the Dirty Bird is turning the lion into a mewling kitten! Turner has nearly 120 yards already. I knew this guy would be good if our line would block well.

MV7 thank you for granting me this exclusive interview:

Q: How do you feel about Matt Ryan
replacing you?

A: I feel that there is only one MV7 and that guy calling signals is just a cheap copy of Ryan Leaf and he couldn’t hold my jock strap.

Q: Do you think he is worth 72-million?

A: Hey the Falcons did what the public wanted. Unfortunately the public wasn’t in the huddle when I beat Minnesota and Carolina single handed. The public was not in the huddle when I took this same team to the Championship game against Donovan (another stud). Don’t forget what I did to Brett Favre in his back yard.

Q: What do you think of the display Roddy White/D Hall and the other participants made on that Monday night game?

A: I think it showed great respect, loyalty and honor. It showed that I was not just a great player, I had the respect of the teammates that mattered.

Q: Do you want to return to the Falcons.

A: Hell No! It will be my goal to come back to ATL and beat this team back to Nazi Germany and when I hold up that MVP trophy I will flip those rednecks with both fingers this time.

Thanks again MV7 - You are the greatest. I will have more of my interviews with MV7 as this post Vick failure continues. Now back to:

Hah! Nice throw by Ryan in between Turner runs. Excellent run by Norwood! I love how Mike Smith has designed some good plays for this kid. He can be a serious game-breaker and it’s about time he got used more than just sparingly.

For those who want to keep hounding Ryan….Mike Smith said from the get-go that this offense would be based on the run. Get that through your thick skulls. It’s exactly what the team is doing. Meanwhile, Ryan is managing the game with a more-than-efficient 7-10 passing on 131 yards….hard to fault that. OH, and we’re up 31-14. No choking so far…maybe on HATORADE….

Risky play with Douglas, but I kind of like that. Yeah, Turner probably will get 200 yards. Like the commentator said, he could use a breather, but he’s been great. Gotta watch those off-the-hands passes. Those are the easiest picks to get victimized by.

Well how about that running backs running the ball and receivers actually receiving the ball. That wasnt going to happen with inmate #7 out there. All he ever threw to was Crumpler and then he ran the ball more than the running backs normally did. Crumpler isnt here anymore so inmate #7 would have had NO PASSING YARDS and get sacked every game like he was the last two years before he got popped for molesting dogs. I guess he thought the nfl is okay with the option offense only he thought he was the first second and third option with Crumpler after that. Now everybody gets to play their game instead of watching him run from sideline to sideline.

Babineaux with a good play. John Abraham with a better one! Nice. That ranks up there with Milloy’s interception. We needed to get to Kitna more. He’s not a great quarterback, but he can throw. And with two receivers like Williams and Johnson…it’s best to not let him get going.

Gridiron Baller, you sound pretty bitter to be taking shots at a QB that hasn’t been the starting QB since the ‘06-‘07 season. If he was such a one-man show, I guess that makes his one-man playoff win over the Packers in Green Bay that much more amazing.

Well, that was a good win. Turner has to have set the tone for the season with 220 freakin’ yards! When’s the last time we’ve had a running back this effective right out of the gate? No offense to Warrick Dunn, I love that guy. And Jerious Norwood makes the perfect 2nd punch to that combo. I have to agree with Gridiron Baller, it was nice for the quarterback to not have to run the ball.

Speaking of which, Ryan was no spectacular performer, but he didn’t need to be. All that was needed was the solid game management that he provided. 9/13 for 161 yards, a touchdown, and no interceptions.

Mike Smith has really done a good job with these guys, getting them to believe in his system. Now they see it can work. The offensive line performed better than expected. The defense came up with some good plays when they needed to, and didn’t let Detroit run the ball all over them. In fact, the running game didn’t do much for them at all.

Before it starts, I know this was just Detroit. But a win is a win, and these guys were expected to be better. I don’t think anybody picked us to score 34 points or rush for so many yards, either. Many people expected a lot worse from Ryan, too. I don’t think we’re going to see a bunch of 300 yard passing games from him. Again…Smith wants to run the ball. Ryan will pass for a good bit more yardage if forced to do so. And when he threw today, he was on a hell of a lot more than he was off. Didn’t look like that much of a rook to me.

Of course, we have Tampa Bay next week. It will be a tougher game. We’ve got to be ready, but at least we know what can happen when we do the things we need to do.

I was taking shots at a wannabe blogger. Inmate #7 doesnt bother me because hes not here anymore. It was an exaggeration I know. But you have to admit he wasnt effective if he wasnt having the ball in his hand all the time. Why you think we had so many problems with receivers. Wasnt Perrless Price fault he couldnt catch a ball, Vick wouldnt throw it to him hardly. It took Joey frikking Harrington to come along before Roddy White could get enough balls thrown his way to get a thousand yards. Explain that to me wise azz. That one playoff win was great wasnt it. Bitter, yeah how do you feel about not getting better than that one year. I thought you were supposed to get better each year not worse and more predictable. when was that playoff game again? How many playoff appearances and wins did we have after that. Come on you want to talk so talk. Dont run away now smarty boy. Ken, unfortunately they still leak through.

Tampa Bay is going to be tougher, but execution and confidence is everything. We’re not looking for a perfect season. We’re looking for a reason to watch these guys and hope for big success in the future. As predicted, naysayers are already pointing to the next game, no doubt hoping for a loss. No surprise there. We’ll see how it goes.

I think Ryan will be just fine. And last I looked, there was 22 guys on the field. 11 on offense, 11 on defense. Hanging everything on one guy is stupid and childish (but we know the reason why). What quarterback has ever been successful without a good offensive line and decent running backs?

And some people still don’t get it: Mike Smith said in the beginning that the Falcons offense would be predicated and built on the ability to run the football. So of course the running backs helped Ryan out. In fact, it was kind of the other way around as well: Ryan helped them out. The offense features the run. Why is that so difficult to understand? It’s not all about Ryan, and it’s not MOSTLY about Ryan. But some people just aren’t trying to hear it because it blows their silly sycophantic issues and arguments right out of the water…

Gridiron Baller, dude…if you keep playing with turds, you end up smelling like $hit. Get my drift? Don’t encourage him. It’s like seeking out the village idiot for conversation, then getting mad when you find out he’s stupid…know what I mean?

Gridirion Baller, as for your issues with the former QB, I won’t touch that. I know you need to paint him as the lesser QB to make Ryan look like the better QB. It’s because you obviously can’t see the career win-loss percentage & pro bowl appearances for your deeply rooted issues.

Funny, out of all of that, there were only a couple of non-“inmate #7” related points…so here’s my take (without the oh-so-intelligent namecalling you used for your oh-so-revealing #7-filled argument):

As for Peerless Price, if you know anything about the game, you’d know that Price simply couldn’t get open. You surround any QB with a porous offensive line & receivers that don’t get open & you better hope your QB keeps the ball in his hands & runs for his life.

As for Roddy White, if you noticed anything about his progress, you’d know that his hands were the problem. Though he’s always had the speed to get open, in his first couple of seasons he had countless balls go through his hands or bounce off his chest. I credit the tutelage of Horn & the same progression that receivers with potential make in this league after a season or 2 under their belts for his emergence.

Another guy who deserves mention in this opening season win is Mike Mularkey. Got to love those misdirection and gadget plays mixed in with the power running game. Keeps those defenders back on their heels guessing whats coming next. A far cry from the days of gregg knapp and his boring and predictable offense.

Great game for the Falcons! If this was any indication of things to come, I’ll gladly man up and say I was wrong in regards to starting Ryan. I was concerned that he would get pummeled behind the typical weak O’ line, but the line held up quite well. The “O” looked sharp both running and passing and the “D” played more physical and aggressive than I can recall for several years. I definitely like Coach Smith’s style - run the ball hard and fast with some nice passes mixed in. Good smash mouth football today on both sides of the ball.

GOOD GAME FALCONS - I’LL ADMIT WHEN I’M WRONG AND YOU PROVED ME WRONG. I STILL HOWEVER BELIEVE RYAN IS A BUST AND BENEFITED FROM A STRONG RUNNING GAME .-Unbiased_Blogger

How can you say the guy is a bust when he has performed beyond what anyone could realistically have expected from him out of the gate? I could understand if you said he is going to be a bust, though I don’t think that will be the case. He definitely benefited from a strong running game, but he made good passes, protected the ball, read the “D” well, moved well behind the line, etc., etc., etc. Quite simply, he did everything he should have done and put the team in position to dominate a game they were expected by many to lose. Besides, a good qb is supposed to take advantage of his team’s offensive weapons. Leaning on a strong running game does not make him a bust, it makes him a smart qb.

Couple of thoughts…

1, of course, great game. It won’t always be this easy, but what a positive start to a new era.

2, I’m really confused by the Falcons throwing twice, when we took over possession at our own 12, with about 1:30 left in the half; we ran once, then two incompletions, and kicked back to Detroit, who flew down the field and scored… seemed that with a rookie quarterback, the field position, and Detroit out of timeouts, we coulda/shoulda just run the ball three times and gotten to the half. Seemed like a real bad tactical decision to me. Any thoughts?

3, the radio postgame show sounds more like we just lost the superbowl. I love Van Note, don’t know this other guy, but they’ve gotta generate a little more post-game excitement after a win.

Wow lets compare pro bowls and win percentages with a rookie quarterback who has only played one nfl game. Thats an easy argument isnt it. You say you wont ouch it but you just did didnt you? That makes it easy for you to paint Vick as better I guess huh. While were noticing things lets notice that you dodged my questions about winning games. how bout them playoffs huh? I dont see Ryan as a better quarterback because he has only played one game but I see a much better balanced offense with Ryan in the game and running backs running the ball. Funny how the team were seeing now is obviously more balanced despite having the same talent or less and the same names on the offensive line and most of the same receivers minus Horn and Price. Its the balance that matters not the pro bowls while the TEAM sits at home wondering why they cant make the playoffs. So much good all those pro bowls and so called win percentages did us. Vick was good at running the ball but youre going to tell me the passing and everything else was everybody elses fault. I see the same kind of offensive line Vick had but a running back with a new team just go well over 200 yards which never would have happened with vick around and vick wasnt playing in a run offense. It was a confused unbalanced offense that was built only on vick and what he might do. one more time, how often did that get us to the playoffs and beyond huh? Fine we disagree on what we see. No namecalling this time so your feelings dont get hurt. At least i dont act all high and mighty like i understand the game and you dont. which is worse that or name calling.

Ken, I’m sorry you missed this one friend. I hope somebody recorded it for you because you definently will want to watch. I think you will be impressed by the play calling of Mike Mularkey. He called one hell of a game. You will love how he mixed in some beautifully designed misdirection plays with the power run game. The quick slant from Ryan to jenkins was called at just the perfect time when Detroit had turner all in their heads! Ryan also made another great sideline throw to white that set up the Norwood score. And the folks who claimed that Ryan was a statue are dead wrong. He moved out of the pocket beatifully today and made some nice conversions when we really needed them. And dude turner is a mack truck with game breaking speed. And when detroit breathed a sigh of relief when turner went to the sideline Norwood gave em a dose of his sick running ability. OK I’m getting carried away so I will just stop now.

Did I mention that I drafted turner for my fantasy team? hehe

List of NFL records and milestones In 2006, Vick became the only quarterback in NFL history to rush for over 1,000 yards during the regular season. In 2006, Vick set the NFL record for most yards per carry in a season, at 8.4. When Vick and RB Jerious Norwood both ran for over 100 yards in Week 4 of the 2006 season, the Falcons became the only NFL team to ever record two games in a franchise’s history where both the quarterback and a running back on the same team surpassed the 100-yard mark in the same game. (Vick and Warrick Dunn both eclipsed 100 yards in Week 2 of the same season.) Vick (1,039 yards) and Dunn (1,140) became the first QB/RB tandem in NFL history to each go over the 1,000-yard rushing mark in the same season. They also became the fourth set of teammates in league history to each have 1,000 or more yards. The last set of teammates to accomplish the feat were Cleveland RBs Kevin Mack (1,104 yards) and Earnest Byner (1,002) in 1985. Earned his second consecutive and third overall Pro Bowl nod in 2005 as he passed for 2,412 yards and 16 touchdowns in addition to leading all NFL quarterbacks with 597 rushing yards and six scores. Named to the second Pro Bowl of his career after leading the Falcons to their third division title in team history and breaking numerous NFL and team records in 2004. Set an NFL postseason record for a quarterback with 119 rushing yards in the 2004 NFC Divisional Playoff win against the Rams. Became the first quarterback to ever throw for more than 250 yards and rush for over 100 yards in the same game at the Broncos (October 31, 2004). Named to the 2002 Pro Bowl, becoming the seventh quarterback to be voted to the NFL All-Star game in his first year as a starter since 1970, joining Dan Marino of the Miami Dolphins (1983), Brett Favre of the Green Bay Packers (1992), Kurt Warner of the St. Louis Rams (1999), Daunte Culpepper of the Minnesota Vikings (2000), Donovan McNabb of the Philadelphia Eagles (2000), and Tom Brady of the New England Patriots (2001). This group would later include Marc Bulger of the St. Louis Rams (2003), Philip Rivers of the San Diego Chargers (2006), and Tony Romo of the Dallas Cowboys (2006). Top overall NFL draft choice in 2001 after a celebrated college career at Virginia Tech. Was the fourth Falcons #1 overall pick in club history (Tommy Nobis in 1966, Steve Bartkowski in 1975, Aundray Bruce in 1988)

What a difference in coaching, and the effort that comes along with it. I’m proud of these guys. They get a bigger test next week.

Unbiased Blogger, livin’ in the past man, livin’ in the past. Vick put up some big time stats. He was a hell of a runner. Yeah, you’re right Nookah. I admit to engaging in some pot stirring. I just can’t help myself sometimes.

We do need to apply more pressure to the quarterback. Of course, one key to that is keeping John Abraham healthy. He’s our best pass-rusher by a long shot. However, other guys need to step it up as well. I have faith in a guy like Mike Smith. I was okay with Mora Jr for a while, but Smith is much more serious and workman-like. I like that. And it’s rubbing off on the players. Thing is, you can have plenty of fun after you put the work in. Smith is doing a good job so far.

It is only one game. I see next week as a potential big bump in the road. But we’ll see. As long as our guys play hard and do what needs doing…

Ain’t it great to have a complete QB for a change! It takes more than physical prowess…it takes intelligence, something our former QB obviously lacked.

Free Mike Vick!!! BWAH, HA, HA, HA, HA…

“He didn’t seem like a rookie,” Turner said. “He took control of the huddle. He made all the right calls. He was a real drill sergeant out there. He was letting everyone know he was in control.”

This is what impresses me about Matt Ryan. The veteran players really like him and believe in his ablity. No he didn’t do anything spectacular today but he played smart and was very effecient. The guys in the huddle have faith in him and that is incredible for a rookie QB. The kid will have his growing pains and he will make mistakes but I believe he will bounce back when it happens. This guy is a competitor and he wants badly to win and if you didn’t see that today then your blind.

Gridiron Baller, as for the wins after that playoff appearance, ever think that a coaching change & attempted installation of a new system had a little something to do with the drop-off in wins?

As for unfair comparisons, I can’t “compare pro bowls and win percentages with a rookie quarterback who has only played one nfl game” but you can deem the offense “more balanced” after one game?

Wow. Just back from losing my $4 life savings, but I get 15 more weeks to prove how dumb I am. Falcons won but they won’t go 16-0 so I will come out during the first loss. Free MV7 - someone needs to clean those dirty lots after the game. Remember trailer park white devils - crack kills (except for me oddly enough) - :)

This gm might not accurately represent the outcome of this season, but it reflects the future of this team in the coming yrs. Coach Smith and his OFF staff established before preseason they intended to run a power rushing OFF. They also declared they wanted to get stronger up the middle on both sides of the ball. This yr, the DEF will have to use mirrors to make it work because they are not yet strong up the middle. That will be addressed in next yrs draft.

It seems obvious our OL was knocking people around and being physical. I don’t expect our rushing OFF to be as successful against the Bucs. They have a much better DEF and they will be more ccmmitted to stopping the run. This is when QB MRyan will have to step up and be counted. The good thing is he’ll go into that gm on a positive note and with a NFL gm under his belt.

As far as those who think it’s impossible to judge a team based on one gm, consider this. Last yr the Patriots dominated everyone and set numerous records along the way to 18 consecutive wins. Everyone judged them based on what they had accomplished during those 18gms. In the end, their season wasn’t determined by the previous 18gns, but by ONE(1) gm, the Superbowl, which they lost. The giants’ season was also determined by just one gm, the Superbowl, which they won.

Teams now know if they don’t stop our rushing attack, they will likely get beaten. This was likely our basic rushing OFF, which we’ll continue to run until it’s stopped. That’s when the counters, misdirections and playaction will be employed. Just watch, next week they won’t televise Tampa Bay’s gm.

GOOD WIN FALCONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Arthur Blank told yall, it wont be long before there is a waiting list again. Get over the past and get some season tickets before its too late. We still have a long way to go, but you don’t know football if you think the Falcons are not moving in the right direction. I am shaking with excitmnet thinking how good they will be after a couple of more drafts. Get ready Falcon fans, this is the start of something great.

Exactly what is it about the violence in hockey and football that stimulates the racist, vulgar, uncivilized morons in our society to come out of their sewers long enough to make ignorant, vulgar, unnessary comments? Its like every time people living in the neighborhood decide to take a leisurely stroll through the park, skunks comes out of the bushes and spray funk all over everyone and pollutes the air with their stench.

A MIND IS A TERRIBLE THING TO WASTE.
