McClure returns to full contact
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Falcons center Todd McClure back in his first full contact practice Wednesday since injuring his back on July 28th. His streak of 96-consecutive starts appears safe for now. (Had to ask him, “Dude, how did you get hurt stretching?” He was nice about it and got a chuckle out of line of questioning.)
Also, cornerback Chris Houston, who dislocated his right shoulder, returned to practice also.
The team whipped through a spirited workout that was very physical. Bodies were flying, but there weren’t any fights. My man Harvey Dahl didn’t even get into any dust-ups. With the Colts coming up on Saturday it was their last physical practice before the Birds break training camp on Friday.
Oh, by the way, Joe Horn continued to nurse his hamstring. He didn’t practice or wasn’t allowed to practice. Steve Wyche and I don’t think anything will happen on the Horn front until teams get a chance to evaluate their own receivers or unless a team loses some receivers to injury.
How big was it getting McClure back? Houston a player? What should they Falcons do with Horn?

It was great to hear that Chris & Todd are back on the field. I am tried of Joe Horn loud mouth.. He needs to retire because this team is focus and ready for the up-coming season. I wish the Birds the best of luck in reaching the record of 12-4 and winning the south. This team is the sleeper team really and they will shock a lot of teams and the league.

I agree on the Horn subject … what has he done for the Falcons up to now … get rid of the malcontent just like MeAngelo Hall … he’s not a team player at all and he’s not that good anymore … goodbye … go somewhere else and toot your Horn!!!! This team only needs those that want to be here and go out and show it on the field. I really do believe in this new regime and their dedication to winning football … just what Atlanta needs!!!!!!! GO FLY HIGH BIG BIRDS!

well, joe horn is exactly right: the falcons are going with youth at every position. mouth or not, you gotta respect the guy for wanting to play and not just sitting back and drawing his 2.5 mil. i feel sorry for him and milloy. they came here to help the falcons take the next step to a championship and instead got cr**ped on by vick, then petrino. too bad horn won’t put the blame where it really belongs instead of the present management.

ditto charlene—-it seems that horn got infected with the (its all about me and not the team syndrome) he must have got in from D Hall. hope the falcons can get something for him —but the sooner the better—-get rid of the cancer

Horn needed to check his AARP benefits and retire… we got Finn back, and thats how veterans are supposed to lead (by example)

Getting Houston back in time for the Colts is huge in terms of 1st team defense preperation. Now we can see how they will react to a top flight offense that will require a lot of nickel coverage. That being said, Houston, Grimes, and Chevis should get plenty of chances to show how this new secondary is going to be able to perform. Wish Jamal Anderson could get going on the QB pressure. Tick tock tick tock the clock is running Jamal, time to put on the big boy britches and play like you belong.

I was seriously concerned about the corners and the linebackers this year. The corners are young and the LBs are a a combination of young and old. In the first game both positions played really well. I hope all the “shoulda picked Dorsey” crowd will be a real team fan and back the team on the field.

Joe Horn killed the Falcons for years. I remember so many games where he dominated, embarrassed, the Falcons secondary. He has a great preparation ethic and has always helped younger players. He has some pride, naturally. There will always be cases where a player disagrees with his coaches about the player’s relative talents. It’s really too bad that this is occurring with Joe. He’s a great guy. I hope someone else wants him and he gets the chance he wants. But to the extent that no one wants him, this does more or less confirm the Atlanta coaches’ estimation of his current abilities.

I think Law dawg deserves at least one year for putting up with US and if the falcons don’t give him at least a one year extension I as a fan would be very upset!!

Is Houston even going to be allowed to play in the Indy game? You’d think with a shoulder injury they might ease him into full contact. D. Orlando never said whether or not he was expected to play. He is a player I am watching hard. He needs to show something considering he was a second rounder last season….

Glad to hear Mcclure is feeling better. We need him bad. Very underrated/ I like what the offense is doing as in having the line learn different positions. Houston and Anderson both have to step up this year. And on a bright note D Hall is already moaning and groaning in Oakland. best move the Falcons ever made.

Does everyone remember the Grits Blitz?Thats what we need to reaccomplish to have a winning season this year.If we also could coax Leeman Bennett out of retirement, that would be a plus also.
