Falcons to meet with McFadden; combine results
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Indianapolis — Arkansas running back Darren McFadden is set to interview with the Falcons on Saturday night in a downtown hotel.
The Falcons hold the No. 3 pick in the draft and need to decide if McFadden is worth the character risk. Given Michael Vick’s federal dogfighting conviction, the team is being extra cautious with background checks.
McFadden may have cost himself millions with a previous interview at the NFL scouting combine. He came off as indifferent about character issues, including a club scene gone bad and a Maury Povich Show-style paternity suit issue.
“There have been some red flags with him,” said Billy Devaney, St. Louis’s executive vice president of player personnel.

Why does an offensive lineman need to jump?

No BRAINER! Mcfadden should be Falcons choice at No 3. Use the Next Pick on a Offensive Lineman, and the Next on a Defensive Lineman. Ignore De Halls request unless there is something better than him at corner in this Draft.

McFadden wouldn’t be a bad pick, but the Falcons have bigger needs, like at QB and Off. and Def. Line.

I love Mcfadden, but you rebuild on the offensive and defensive lines. Chris Long is The Pick my friends.

I am hoping that Dimitrov has learned from his time with the Patriots and trades down to have 2 #1 picks each year. The Patriots are successful because they are constantly replacing their talent with young stars and aging veterans who still have something left in the tank.

We really need a QB or RB with that pick, considering our offensive line couldn’t keep Richard Simmons [yes, the crying one in pink hotpants] from breaking into the backfield…

with the third pick, don’t go for mcfadden. sure, he might have the most talen at RB, but RBs are easy to find. the packers had ryan grant (undrafted). the giants used ahmad bradshaw (7th round). heck, jamal anderson was a 7th round pick too. we can easily find a RB in the later rounds.
plus, mcfadden has some character issues (getting into fights twice during his college career). do the falcons really need that now?

Mcfadden so badly… look at what some of his caliber rookies have done in their frist years (Cadillac, Bush, Peterson). He has the ability to turn this franchise around. Trade Deangelo for a good pick if you really want to draft a qb but none of them are that good this year (especially matt ryan). Xavier Lee can be picked up late and will probably surprise people at the combine tomorrow.

If either Dorsey or Jake Long are on the board we should take them. However, if not, then we should trade down 2-3 spots and still get Sedrick Ellis. Then use the 1st round pick trading MeAngelo to get the best OT on the board. Get Henne or Ainge with 1 of the two second round picks.

Matt Ryan. Pro quarterback. Next year there won’t be the opportunity for a quarterback like this.

I would love to see McFadden in a Falcons uniform. The combination of Norwood/McFadden would be great to watch. Also, if they decide to keep Dunn, then he can be a mentor to McFadden and he can be used as a third down/change of pace type of back.
In my opinion, McFadden is like an Adrian Peterson and it would be difficult to pass him up. As for his character issues, I’m not that concerned..As long as he has a positive people around him then he will be fine.
If not McFadden, then it would be nice to see Jake Long, OT out of Michigan. He seems like the type that will stay in the league for about 10 years and can probably play with the best of them.
DeAngelo Hall is a top 5 cornerback but recently he said that he is open to a trade, and the majority of the fanbase have grown to dislike him. So, as a franchise, it’s best to part ways and try to get the best deal possible, preferably a 1st and 3rd round pick.
Experts have said that the Falcons should select Matt Ryan and I wouldn’t select him because he threw 19 interceptions and he is not worth the number 3 pick. I would rather for the Falcons choose Chad Henne - very good arm, makes good decisions, has leadership skills - in the second/third round. My other choices at QB would be Flacco or Woodson.
Overall, most of the picks should be offensive and defensive lineman. Also, they should get a kicker, and safety.
In free agency, the focus should be to get some pieces on the defensive side of the ball.

How about Jake Long with the third. Trade DHall for a First and third. Draft Illinois rb with that pick. Draft RT Godser Cherilus with 37th pick and QB Flacco with 40th pick if they are available. Then you have RB, two standout tackles and QB of the future and six picks to build around.

Jama, I’m with you man, but instead of Henne or Ainge I’d use my first 4-5 picks on OL and DL. When you’re good in the trenches, the whole rest of the team looks good. When you’re bad in the trenches, all running backs, QBs, Corners and Safteys look the same.

Mcfadden first then if we trade hall to the giants for their first and 3rd we could draft either henne or woodson in the end of the first or o-lineman then with our 2 seconds take whatever we didnt get in the first round ….. and then possibly trade one of the 3rd round selections (seeing we get the 3rd from the giants in the hall trade) for jonathan vilma from the jets , the jets only want a 3rd for him and then we could move brooking back to the OLB and have a nice linebacker core =)

jumping ability is the primary test of explosive power off the line. If a linemen can jump he can explode off the line of scrimmage

Bama 12, I fully expect Dimitroff to target and secure at least 1 veteran OL such as Alan Faneca from Pittsburgh. Faneca combined with Blalock and Jake Long would allow us to use a 2nd round pick on a QB. We must also consider that we might have as many as 3 second rounder picks or at least 2 first round with the MeAngelo trade. So, we either take Dorsey and use the other 1st rounder to take a OL or visa versa.

One thing’s for sure. It’s going to take alot more than this draft to fix the Falcons.

It just seems that we need to get some big uglies on the offensive line to protect whomever we get for a QB or RB down the road.
A great QB lying on his back with a concussion every other week or a RB that can’t get past the scrimmage line is a waste.
You bet we need a QB and maybe a RB. But we have to start with linemen.

Jake Long is the pick. Flacco, Ainge, or Henne in a later round pick if possible. None of the QB’s are franchise material…Particularly Leaf…I mean, Ryan.

Don’t waste that first pick on McFadden. The guy has personal issues…plus he has thin legs…not suitable for durability in the NFL. Go after the best O lineman available.

THE FALCONS HAVE A RUNNING BACK IF THEY WOULD GIVE NORWOOD A CHANCE AT STARTING. I WOULD GO AFTER JAKE LONG TO UPGRADE THE O-LINE.
