Another loss, but they didn’t quit

Glendale, Ariz. — Another game, another loss. This time the Falcons lost in overtime, dropping a 30-27 decision to Arizona.

The Falcons dropped to 3-12 on the season, the mercifully ends next week against Seattle at the Georgia Dome. It was the sixth straight loss for the Falcons, who haven’t won since defeating Carolina on Nov. 11.

How ironic that the season ends against the Seahawks, who feature former coach Jim Mora as assistant head coach and former defensive end Patrick Kerney, who has 13.5 sacks this season?

You can say this about the Falcons — they didn’t quit. The scored 13 unanswered points in the fourth quarter, but allowed a field goal as time expired to force overtime. They lost when Neil Rackers kicked a 31-yard field goal to win it. The Cardinals won the toss and marched down the field for the game winner.

Another defeat in an already dreadful season.

I hope they inquire about either D. Anderson or B Quinn at Cleveland. Keep trying to convince Cowher, but talk to Shottenheimer. Beef up the OL, DL in the offseason. Don’t give up hope for the future!!

threw this one away. Just let kurt warner march down the field uncontested. No heart. No desire. Another wasted effort for the true troopers like Crumpler. Sorry man.

Emmitt Thomas took his name out of consideration at the end of the game, going with a prevent defense and not seeming to know where he was in the last few minutes of the game.

What brilliant coaching. The game could have been won but the defense goes soft in the last 2 minutes. Aggressive defense kept the Falcons in the game but the prevent defense lost the game.

They can throw Mike Zimmer out with the rest of the garbage. What a pathetic pass rush at the end of the game. I guess he was hoping for some incompletions or an interception.

At least we didn’t screw up our draft position just yet.

Thanks for the loss ZIMMER!!! Terrible coaching to go into a prevent up by 3 with 1:30 left. You have very inexperienced DB’s out there covering All Pro receivers and you give Warner all day to come down the field. Coach Thomas should fire Zimmer today just to make a statement that this team played too hard to lose because of poor coaching..

Emmit Smith says it best: “Don’t quit. Don’t even quit.”

Zimmer calls the defense by the way. The team played young and got tired, but they kept us in contention for a great Draft.

Bad play calling at the end of regulation and allowing Warrick Dunn to bunny hop for no yardage on that last drive cost us the game.

They need to lose these next couple games to get a better pick in the draft, ift there was something to play for I would be as passionate about winning as the next person. But since Petrino gutted the defense, and Author blank let him do it like an idiot, I stopped caring about this season and started looking towards the next. How could we dismantle a defense that we know can stop somebody and create a defense that cant stop anybody.

What a waste of time and effort. I know this win will not put us in the playoffs but, i just didnt get this one.Score a F/G and at the end you play soft. Why try so hard to get ahead but not finish it off…Please just let the second string defense and offense finish the last game.

thank goodness. Nothing worse than a horrible team messing up its’ draft pick status by winning a meaningless game at the end of the year. we need to lose against seattle and get the #2-4 pick, hire singletary as our coach, get a good qb in FA, and draft mcfadden. We have 9 draft picks. If we can get a QB in FA, and draft some OL and some playmakers on both sides of the ball, we can turn this around in two years.

Smartest thing I’ve seen the Birds do in 5 years! Look good on the comeback, but tank it for the better draft choice. There is some hope in Atlanta. Emmitt is much smarter than these other Bozos. Great job.

Another loss. Yeah the effort was much better, but what is it with this prevent offense near the goal line trying to make the Cardinals use timeouts instead of trying for a TD? That was as bad as the prevent defense.

It is off the subject, but are they ever going to do anything about the moronic Pro Football Overtime Rules? Say what you want about the College rules and starting at the 25 yard line, but at least both teams get a chance. This sudden death stuff is so predictable…you lose the coin flip you lose the game most of the time.

I recommend the colleges change to a start at the 50 yard line vice the 25. In the Pros, both teams should have at least one possession and may the best team win. As it is, NFL OT is more bogus than soccer’s shootout. Hell at least each team has a chance in the shootout.

This was a excellent game. R.White has shown the fans of Atlanta that we have a future Pro Bowl WR. Redman has proven that he can compete for the QB spot in 2008. Norwood did an excellent job at the RB position, I was also glad to see D.Hall returning punts… Emitt is allowing these men to have fun…

I wish people wouldn’t say things such as “Who cares?” when obviously you care or you wouldn’t be reading the articles about the Falcons. But if by some reason you really don’t care, then just skip them altogether and we who do care wouldn’t have to read your stupid comments.

That was a close one. Almost lost our chance at Mcfadden! Can’t wait to see a 75% empty dome when the Seahawks backups give us a beating. There is no hope for this team for the next 2-3 years.

In the last drive for the Cardinals and the drive in overtime just showed that the Falcon’s defense totally gave up. They didn’t even try! They all should benched next week and play with 11 new guys. Also, D. Hall should keep his mouth shut in the future. He thinks a lot of himself but no one else does. He can’t even cover my Grandmother and he hits like a pansy. Pathetic defense!

Good Game! Somewhat exciting without hurting our draft status. Of course, can’t we afford to pay the 2nd overall pick in the draft. 1st pick in the game hurt us, you could blame it on White, but Redman’s through was no better. Go Falcons, 2008!

I am a former Falcon season ticket holder. The playoff win over Minnesota in 1998 will always be the pinnacle for me. Owner Blank deserves all the blame for this mess. Can someone predict how long until the Falcons can have back to back winning seasons for the first time in franchise history? I cannot, it’s too far away……

The Falcons have very few NFL winning players who play regular on this team. Arthur Blank has listen to wrong people and made bad decisions especially Vick and Petrino. The present Falcons are hopeless and need a new direction.

greenvegas is right: the next game is meaningless (usually you want to win whenever you can), and we should all hope the Birds lose so they improve their draft position (in every round I might add). Too many damaged minds on the team right now: linemen continue to false start, receivers continue to false start (it takes a real moron to do that from a wide-out position), punt returners handling the ball inside the 10 yard line, rushers running into the kicker, gunners running into the punt returner, etc. etc. Rule no. 1: get players who have some smarts or you are doomed. Poor Chris Houston—-he wasn’t just eaten up by better talent, he was destroyed by better minds (and better talent). Roddy had a good day. My advice: he’s showing better than his ability right now (he’s particularly slow and will never be a Chad Johnson), so trade him! We’ll get either a good player for him, or a No. 1. DeAngelo can’t tackle and is only fair on coverage (I don’t care what the conventional wisdom says). Trade him. Another No. 1. Clabo: out. Forney: out. Trade Crumpler if anyone wants him. Brooking: retire. Houston: sorry, Chris. Mughelli: sorry, but we can’t afford your contract and stay under the cap considering what we need to pay for FA’s. Most important: hire a GM who knows how to assess talent in FA and the draft. Nothing is more important.

By low down dirty shame

A “moral victory” against a sad Arizona team. If anyone thinks a FA QB and drafting McFadden, they are saddenly mistaken. Anderson is a bust. LBs are slower than a turtle. We waived are best dlinemen in Grady. Safety’s are horrible. The only CB we have worth a crap, meangelo, is a team cancer. We are wasting away talent like Norwood only giving it to him 5 times a game. OL is awful. Every single last one of them. You can rest assured there will be two things that will happen on offense, loss of yardage/sack or a big play called back by a holding penalty.

The egg is on Blanks face. LOL

The franchise, the clueless meddling owner and the fair-weather fans richly deserve this train-wreck. Enabling & protecting a now convicted felon, stealing a coach under contract, botching basic procedures — all summon the buzzards home to roost. Even now, idiots and press-pimps hope for a miracle-worker to swoop in a turn things around. Here’s hoping Chokenhiemer lights you fools up. (How many times has he been to the super Bowl?)

Almost, but not quite enough. The players played hard and aggressive from the start. Key things which have always hampered this team are still there. What in the world does Warrick Dunn have over the Falcons. Great guy. Was awsome runner. Why give him the ball when he is in negative. What are you proving. I want to lose. What happen to that goal line back(snelling) who was used twice to 18 yards. Dunn 12 carries 12 yards. Come on guys lets be for real. Real coaches make real men decisions. Either you are blind or Dunn has something on you. Give it a rest. Let the Best Run the Ball. If you need to know, the names are Norwood and Snelling. Dunn please know we love you but dread your appearance on the field

Whew, that was close. We need to lose next week and hope the Jets beat the Chiefs. That #2 draft pick is looking mighty good right now. I’m going with the higher the pick the better in hopes that some team wanting to trade up will offer more than necessary to make a deal happen on draft day.

I believe that Chris Redman has done a great job as the quarterback. His desire, and commitment (Yes, the word commitment coming from a Louisville fan)are something that the Falcons need.

Losing games this year will be easy to forget…but I am more worried about protecting the QB. We need O-Lineman, that can protect!

Today, they played with HEART something we fans have been waiting for all season long. I only wish they had won the damn toin coss in overtime, I hate that rule.

I am proud of this team, and believe that next year will be much better. They will have learned from the mistakes and stupid penalties, and will be a good team next year.

BTW —- Montavious Stanley played a great game as well.

Hey Angela Hall… All I here for the last 3 days is your comments about not wanting to play for another losing team for another year… Well, when the coaches see your effort on A. Bolden’s 2nd touchdown (i think it was) where he caught a hitch pass and gave extra effort and stretched for the end zone. Your effort was pitiful! The only effort you made was to make sure you got out of the way, avoiding all contact and letting Bolden score.

I hope the coaches (and fans) took note. You have secured your fate with this team. So long, good bye, L-O-S-E-R!

“Robert,

I’d rather win one WS or Super Bowl title and a centuries worth of winless seasons than playoff appearances every year thru the next millenia without a ring

From a business standpoint, that wouldnt be the case.

But from a fan’s standpoint, it’s not so much about having opportunities as it is about cashing in them.

Look, all’s well that ends well. Don’t be stupid about this. The team played well for the most part, we keep our draft position, and maybe keep Redman for next year (even if we draft a QB, he’ll need time). Naysayers, get a life. This season has been about draft picks since week 7 — anyone that doesn’t realize that is an idiot.

I think the Falcons proved one thing today. Our starters are about equal to some other teams second and third string players but cannot compete with any other starters. I hope that Mr. Blank gets us a GM who is capable of providing better players, coaches, and pride I would also like to see the Falcons go back to the red helmets. The new uniforms look kind of sissy and those black helmets have always had a thug look. Most importantly, let’s support Mr.Blank instead of howling for his head. I want to keep the Falcons in Atlanta.
