Falcons, NFC South shut out of Pro Bowl

It’s no surprise that the Falcons did not have one player named to the Pro Bowl today, but the entire NFC South was shut out.

Not one player from Tampa Bay, Carolina, Atlanta or New Orleans was chosen for the annual all-star game, which seems stunning on the surface, but it’s hard to argue against the players selected ahead of them.

Wasn’t this division supposed to be one of the best in the NFL just a few years ago?

About the only players who could have a gripe from the NFC South about being snubbed are New Orleans WR Marques Colston, Carolina MLB Jon Beason and Tampa Bay MLB Barrett Ruud.

Beason (118) and Ruud (108) are among the top 11 tacklers in the league, however, it’s hard to argue against the selection of Seattle’s Lofa Tatupu and San Francisco rookie Patrick Willis. Tatupu is 20th in tackles, but he has 4 interceptions and plays for the NFC West champion.

Colston is third in the NFC with 1,092 receiving yards and nine touchdowns, but he was beaten out by Larry Fitzgerald, Torry Holt, Terrell Owens and Donald Driver.

Former Falcons DE Patrick Kerney, who leads the NFL with 13.5 sacks, was named a starter for the NFL.

Dallas had the most players selected with 10. New England was next, with 8.

The Pro Bowl is a farce anyway. Who cares?

NO FALCON EVEN REMOTELY PLAYED PRO BALL LET ALONE ALL-PRO BALL! Glad NFL took action on antics of exhibitionist thugs during MNF debacle. Fines were okay but thought lifetime NFL expulsions should have been added for good measure. None of those involved will be missed! Just eight more quarters of utter ineptitude. Tune in SportSouth to view an Atlanta pro team that actually tries. Most games!

I’m sure MeAngelo, who’s a legend in his own mind, will protest this with a poster or something written on his jersey at the next game. How appropriate Patrick Kerney makes it. We sure let a couple of good guys go last year.

The news that MeAngelo Hall didn’t make the Pro Bowl just made my day! It would make my 2008 if they traded his overratted a** in the off-season and got some football players to rebuild the disaster they call the Falcons.

The Falcons need to clean house. A good start would be firing the clowns that got fined for their pro-Vick tributes on Monday night. This team has no class, no heart and no clue. No wonder Bobby Petrino quit on them.

Personally, I think there was just too much negative press going on for the Falcons this season. Take Atlanta out of the mix and the NFC South doesn’t really have many large market teams. Carolina? New Orleans was becuase of the Katrina factor but my family lives there and people aren’t exactly coming back by the bus load. Sure the Bucs are in Tampa but a lot of the rest of the country doesn’t follow what Gruden’s doing in sunny FL when it’s freezing outside. A few good players breed positive publicity and bring more attention to the city and other players on the team. And well we know the other side…

Why do they deserve to be on the list? Crumpler couldn’t catch a cold and Hall gets beat like a RED-HEADED STEP-CHILD..Glad to see they support Vick..hopefully they can join him for the next 23 months.

I could care less about the Pro bowl anyhow. It’s not a competitive ball game. No one really plays hard. I quit watching it a long time ago. I think they should do away with the entire scenario.

Not to worry. We’ll get to see Kerney do his Pro Bowl routine in a couple of weeks when he comes back.

If they voted players in based on their “mouths”, D’hall would be a shoe in. However, the last time I checked one got on the pro bowl team based on his performance on the field.

This is typical new-area Falcons…All talk and no “do”. They are a discrace to the city and state of Atlanta. If they would quit acting like thugs and start acting like professionals they might find someone would take them seriously.

Well said all, tear this trainwreck down and start over. Everyone and I do mean everyone from the stinkin’ trainer to the GM needs to be run out of town. Embarrassing does not even begin to describe this group of pathetic losers.

Negative press, excuses, the reality is, there are no Pro-Bowl caliber players on the Falcons. Wait till next year, you won’t be able to track the names of the new players. Until the Falcons get a professional team, the Pro-Bowl, playoffs, and Super Bowl will be dreams…

The hit that Sean Taylor put on that punter last year, that tried a fake punt will always be one of my fondest Pro Bowl memories.

The Falcons should just be glad they are still getting paid to play professional football, much less all-pro football.

That would be like AJC writers getting voted All-Media. It just isn’t gonna happen.

If we are last in the division that ranked dead last, what that is is an opportunity to improve more than anybody else possibly could. Only one way to go now, up is all that is left.

When Mr Blank makes the call to get us better GManagement, Coaching Leadership and for crying out loud we need to have some player development other than the old “maybe it will happen” player development. We need Leadership from the Front Office downward. Better personnel decisions and selections. Mike Singletary can show us the direction to go.

I’m glad Petrino’s gone. I had a feeling we were going to draft Brian Brohm’s over rated a.. RB Darren Mcfadden or OT Jake Long should be the pick. Then o-line,d-line,safety,qb. I just dont see a franchise qb coming out. Ryan and Woodson are ok, but I think we should wait till next year on a qb, or maybe take a shot at one in the later rounds. Lets get some protection first.

How funny…in the grand state of Georgia where half the residents outside of 285 resent the removal of a confederate-themed flag and pay homage to treasonous felons…they have a problem with guys showing support to their friend?? Oh that’s laughable. They will shed a tear for war criminals whose crime is punishable by execution…but heaven help us if DHall and Alge Crumpler put MV7 on an eyepatch.

What did I say before the draft. Brooking was too slow and too old. We need to draft Patrick Willis. Well, he’s already a pro-bowler. Rich Mckay, you are a joke. Did Jamal Anderson even play this year?

I’m surprised Marques Colston didn’t make it over Donald Driver. Other than that the entire NFC South really is that bad, Falcons in particular. Maybe just for old times’ sake they should have let Morten Andersen on the team.

I agree with SCBird. Two should have made it. That would be Boley and Abraham. They both played hard all season like professionals. Boley should be even better next year.

John Abraham and Michael Boley may have had a shot at the Pro Bowl roster. Algie Crumpler’s, Warrick Dunn’s and Joe Horn’s performances this year have been embarrasing. All three of these players have dropped multiple passes in each game. They were great players in the past, but sadly not now. You can blame Petrino or you can blame the “Vick mess”. Most of the Falcon players have quit on the season ticketholders. I believe that Boley, Abraham, Brookings and DeAngelo Hall have not quit. These guys are still giving 100%. Yes, I said DeAngelo Hall. He may be a jerk, but he hasn’t quit yet. The rest of the Falcon players should have their paychecks garnished to payback the ticket holders for the last 5 games.

I don’t undrstand Carolina, the Saints or Tampa Bay not having anyone go to the Pro-Bowl. Atlanta? Thats another story! To be chosen for the Pro-Bowl you have to show class and character, whether you have it or not. Most of the Falcons that went to the Pro-Bowl in the past don’t have it. Their antics on the field this year show what they have always been. NOTHING! All theey can do is run their mouths and make trouble. I don’t know what the Falcons need (nobody has been able to figure that out for fourty two years), but it is definatly not what they have now! It’s time for Arthur Blank to kick a$$ and take names, and don’t worry about what the fans or the people of Atlanta think about it!

Why would it come as a surprise that Buffalo Butt Crumpler and DeAngelo Hall didn’t make the Pro Bowl? Neither has done anything deserving of any positive recognition. Both should be cut from the team.

I’m in shock! What about….uh, uh, uh, mmm, lets see. If you took all the players collective talents (i use that term loosely) and stuffed them into one person that one player would not make the Patriot’s roster. I’ll bet a varsity dog that in the last two games they will find a new low to reach. They are pathetic and it ain’t gonna improve.

According to ESPN Chris Mortensen Blank is talking with Parcells about becoming Vice President. McKay will be out as VP but Blank wants him to remain with the Falcons.

Why the hell would you be surprised that none of those guys made it? Crumpler barely had a pass thrown to him, and the nation probably hates Deangelo Hall. So who exactly was supposed to be deserving on our team? Aside from that, anyone playing for the Atlanta Falcons this year is probably hated by any and all NFL fans outside of Georgia. No one deserved it.

Good! They need to blow up this team. Anything of valve needs to be traded for draft picks. Why do we still have guys here that Dan Reeves had anyway?
