It’s official, Redman’s in
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
As expected, the Falcons named Chris Redman the starting quarterback for Monday’s game with the Saints. Coach Bobby Petrino said the positive manner in which Redman’s teammates responded when Redman played the fourth quarter in Sunday’s 28-16 loss at St. Louis factored heavily into his decision.
Redman, meanwhile, said he’s ready and grateful for the chance. He was out of football since 2003 and a year ago he was selling insurance. He said he figured his only route to football was via the arena league, where he spent two days (Austin Wranglers) before Petrino, his former offensive coordinator at Louisville called.
Players seemed indifferent about the switch, seeing as though it’s the fifth overall change and third different quarterback they’ve had this season.
It will be interesting to see how Redman responds. Sunday, he was facing a defense that was playing mostly prevent because it held a 21-3 lead when he came in. Monday, he’s going to be blitzed from every angle and shown coverages he hasn’t seen in quite some time.
In other developments, right guard Kynan Forney was working with the starting offense a game after in which he was inactive for non-injury related issues. He also missed the Thanksgiving loss to Indianapolis with a sinus infection.
Petrino said Forney’s replacement, D’Anthony Batiste, was working some at left guard, where rookie Justin Blalock has started all season.
Injury wide, right tackle Tyson Clabo has a left ankle injury but Petrino said he expects Clabo to be ready by Monday. Petrino said nickel back Antoine Harris probably is out of Monday’s game with a left knee injury, meaning Lewis Sanders would step in as the nickel back in nickel packages.

Is Redman going to get blitzed anymore than the other two would? No. Is the line going to have anymore trouble keeping him vertical? No. So, might as well give it a whirl.

Let’s give up our (2)#2’s this year and one next and trade for the Browns Anderson. Draft McFadden and spend some free agent money on the OL. At least that would give us a start on building the offense. Maybe Redman will prove to be a decent backup. If not, I’m sure Shockley could have done better than Harrington or Leftwich this year. But we’ve got to get a quarterback first thing in getting our team turned around. I would hate to draft Brohmn over Ryan and Petrino decide to head back in the college ranks.

I want to know what Brooking thinks of things, the offense, Redman, the defense, Zimmer…
Give Redman a shot, who knows what might happen.
The O-line shuffling is scary…so Kynan gets his gig back, obviously being punished for not playing sick (that is ridiculous by Petrino BTW) and Batiste may get the nod over Blalock.
How come Irons isn’t given a shot to play Nickel…he is a CB and fast?

Steve…What about Norwood? Any word on how he will be used on Monday? Petrino has been saying all season long that he has to find a way to get him more touches. Has he figured that out yet?

I’ve been a Falcons fan since the early 80’s. This has got to be the crumbiest season in 27 years. There’s no hope. You’ve got a coach that thinks he’s still in college. The play calling and switching of the quarterbacks tells the story. I heard an announcer say this weekend that you can’t expect the offense to get any better if they never get used to one guy. But whatever! We’re screwed if Petrino stays. Maybe they should call us the Louisville Falcons instead. One word to Arthur Blank, “Call Dick Tracy, cause I think they’re lookin for you Mumbles.”

I do not believe starting Redman Sunday will make a difference. The line is bad and he cannot play. The only saving grace is that the Saints have a bad secondary so the game may be close and semi enjoyable. What the Falcons need is to find a beef for teh line next year and go sign a verteran QB and give DJ Shockley a shot. Oh by the way if Darren McFadden is available next year do not pass on him. We need play makers..

Blalock is a high #2 pick and we’re getting nothing from the #8 pick in the first round. No coach in the NFL knows Redman like Petrino does so if he hasn’t even played up until last week that should tell you something.
Yeah, Petrino will get it turned around all right. Geez, it never gets better in Atlanta.

Now that the high school football season is over, and many of the high school players are going to be getting out for Christmas, do you think that Bobby Petrino might find an offensive line, and a couple of running backs available to end the season on a high note??

The Falcons are crumbling at a higher rate than Home Depot. I guess the golden touch of Mr. Blank is now a little tarnessed.

I will be so happy when this season is over with. I dated a guy just like Patrino he had 3 of us and kept going back and forth..I was the lucky one he did not choose me and I moved on to bigger and better things. Hang in there Joey the right team and coach will come along.

I have harped ALL SEASON that Putridwino should play Redman! When a ship is sinking it does not make any sense to ignore inflated life rafts. I have seen far more than I care to of Interception King Harrington and Cement Legs Leftover! So what if Redman goes 0-For in starts. Hey, he does not have a helluva lot to live up to. Know what I mean? His quickness (at least compared to JH and BL) makes him more suited to the anemic offense BP wants to implement. I, too, wanted to choke him after that killing interception! Maybe the kid will learn lollipop tosses are not acceptable at this level. Then again, Joey has NEVER absorbed that lesson. Oh well. Redman, Andersen and Norwood are the only Falcons still trying anyway. No, I do not want to hear about damn butterfingers Roddy White! GO BLUE!

Coaches should be in it for the long haul, and instead we Have Petrino. He abandons ship after one year and goes to Arkansas. Why did we hire him anyway?
