Falcons less anemic than Panthers
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Charlotte — In a battle of anemic offenses, the Falcons were just a little better — defeating Carolina on a touchdown pass with 20 seconds remaining.
Hey, at least it’s progress. The Falcons won their second straight game.
Suddenly the Falcons are not completely out of the NFC South race. With New Orleans’ loss, Tampa Bay leads the division at 5-4, followed by Carolina and New Orleans at 4-5 and the Falcons at 3-6.

Arthur Blank is a fool to buddy up with Crumpler on the sideline after Crumpler’s undermining of coach Petrino. If Petrino leaves, Blank will get what he deserves when he no longer has fans to drag down with him.

At least we’re finding ways to win instead of ways to lose. You gotta give Harrington credit as he stood in there and delivered the pass to Crump. From the replay Harringon didn’t even see Crump score. Here comes Tampa Bay…

Forget the top draft pick-just win baby, just win. The NFC South is so weak we actually have chance. 8-8 might be the winner in the South.

Falcons always Win - Hey Hey Hey !!!
Not really, but somehow they did win 2 in a row - good for them.
Hey, Steve Wyche, where did you get all those softball questions for Rich McKay? For a team that went 2-6 in the first half of the season, it would seem you might have a couple of tough questions for the GM, but you completely let him off the hook -too bad.
McKay says they are thinking of not raising questions next year - that’s really laughable - the real question should be if they lose enough season ticket holders, will they reduce ticket prices?

Progress towards what Steve? I know the whole Mora dysfunctional relationship wore on the beat writers but the reverse is just as tiring.
Having watched this team since game one I’ve seen innumerable meaningless wins like the victory today. I’d bet a paycheck that next time we play Carolina Harrington, Crumpler and Dunn aren’t with the team and truth be told if they are then something’s wrong.

People, there is no way possible to go 3-13 without winning three games.

Wyche your Q & A story with McKay is another example of how this is one of the most pathetic papers in America. Why don’t you beat writers ask the tough questions. It becomes ever so obvious that the AJC sports writers are as sorry as the teams here in Atlanta.

OK, that’s enough Falcons. 3 wins is nice, now lose the rest and get McFadden in the draft! Looks like the Fins, Shams and Raiders are going to be our competition for the top spot in the draft.

This whole “losing the first draft pick” talk is just plain stupid. Petrino was brought in to win. If the player he wants isn’t there there when the Falcons pick, then so be it. Just keep improving and finding ways to win. These last two weeks have cured some of the backbiting going on in the locker room and I for one want to see the Falcons finish strong instead of the last couple of seasons where they started strong and finished 2-6.

Good game Birds.
But all we are going to see here is negative comments. Win the game - bad for the draft. It’s bad for the owner to buddy up with a player. Another meaningless win. Blah, blah, blah. No the Falcons aren’t going to the Super Bowl, but we can enjoy the wins even if it’s the woeful 49ers and the “playoff bound” Panthers.
“Old” Warrick Dunn played his heart out. “Washed up” Keith Brooking played well. And Joey Harrington took some punishment while playing a decent game.
You could be a Saints fan have endured a beat-down at home from an 0-8 team.

Listen People for the last time, McFadden is not the answer! Do the Patriots have a stud running back or role back? What about the Colts? Let me see, maybe the Cowboys? No, they all have stud QB’s. The have good RB’s, but not great. We need a QB period. I don’t know if Ryan is the answer or Brohm? I believe in Vick more than ever. Vick was the best player to play the game. Unfortunately, he was so good that it was hard to pinpoint the problems we had on offense. The receivers still drop balls and they are still not WIDE open like I see receivers in other games! Defense is the Man though, I have to give them credit. By the way, I am white in case any one is keeping tabs!

The comments about your soft interview with the invisible man are right on. Too many reporters/announcers/radio talkers/etc (see the Zone’s Rosenburg)must be looking for a job from Blank. Blank says in retospect wheeling Vick on the field was a mistake, now Crumpler his “boy.” Please, could Blank just stay off the friggin’ field it’s embarrassing.

Redman was perfect passing! Can the guy not throw deep (aka Harrington)? Is he unable to line up properly behind center? He sure as Hell appears more mobile than Harrington! I am almost 100 percent sure he can throw dump-off passes, too. Redman can certainly move around in the pocket? Did he get Petrino’s daughter pregnant or something? Why is HE not being given an opportunity? From number two to off the depth chart. ALMOST! Next Farve?

Yeah, let’s just get to the playoffs. Isn’t that the same mantra used by the Braves? Who could the Birds beat in the playoffs?….exactly. Now, do not win anymore games idiots…lest we lose out on any chance for a difference maker( ala Mcfadden ).

Thanks Rod for being the only true Falcons fan on this blog. Screw the draft, only losers look to the draft. Winners look to get better with what they have now, which is what this team is working on. All of the early season kinks are being ironed out and it’s as I always say as long as the team gets in a rhythm offensively by the end of the year I’ll be happy.

I dont think that anyone actually thinks the birds will make the playoffs. Least not Art, Rich, or the Bobmeister. I did say last week that the next two games (this and the bucs next week) were very winnable. Now ~ Thanksgiving will be ugly with a capital U. if you can look beyond that and IF Byron or by some miracle that Robert Petrino’s offensive genious starts to manifest itself ~ well the rest of the schedule doesn’t look so daunting! There again, this team hasn’t the “gravitas” to compete in the post season with the NFC elite, let alone ANYONE in the AFC. It pains me to admit it ~ but most of us live in the real world. I agree with many of you that this paper has become a THIRD RATE BLOG. The racists and illiterates aside ~ many of the folks that post here are much more grounded in what is really going on here than these “soldiers of political correctness”. The AJC has stopped circulating their RAG south of Macon because they have SOLD FRIGGIN OUT! the trouble is ~ we have to rely on them for info on our teams cause there aren’t any real options! This is what happens when you dont have to compete. And even with no real competition ~ they are still “strangled” out of circulation. Atlanta and Georgia in general is a DYNAMIC place to live and do business! Millions of people are moving here to live. So how is it that we have a professional baseball and football team that cant make the playoffs and a print media that cant report in an honest and real fashion?
So whether you are a fan of the Falcons, Braves, Dawgs, Jackets, Hawks, Thrashers, or any of the many professional/college/high school athletic programs. You are like me ~ a proud GEORGIAN expecting the BEST of our young men and women ~ even if they are only PAID to be one of us!
Let’s work to be the best my friends!

Even with a win the AJC Sport Columnist finds a way to try to embarass the Falcons. I know the Falcons are not going to win the Super Bowl this year, but to call the Falcons offense anemic was that really necessary Wyche? The Falcons was in this game to the end, away from home against a decent defense. To read Wyche, Moore and Schultz you would think that they were sitting around in the AJC breakroom hoping for more bad news to come for Flowery Branch

You can really identify the fans with loser mentalities because they prefer high draft picKs over wins. Any team that would lose gms to get a higher pick isn’t likely to be improved by any one player anyway. Teams get progressively better by playing well enough to win, instead of playing for draft positions. That type of thinking shows why some people think Atlanta Falcon fans are so stupid.
Has anyone noticed how our run DEF, and our pass rush, has improved since GJackson left(especially up the middle)? It’s one thing to try and improve our run OFF, but does it always have to be between the tackles. Petrino should call more outside runs and allow the RB to cut back inside if there’s an opening.
Is there anyone out there that still wants to get rid of RWhite? His ascent started after he dropped that TD pass in the New Orleans gm. Instead of dropping his head, he manned up and has caught everything thrown his way since. Good work Roddy. Since Ojinnaka and TClabo became our OT’s, our pass and run blocking has definately improved. GOOD WIN FALCONS, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.

I’m really disappointed to see folks bagging the season. With todays NFL, you play for now. The fact is, there are 7 games left and the Falcons nearly control their own destiny for winning the division.
While TB has a 2 game lead…the Falcons have two games left with the Bucs and 1 game left with the Saints who lost today and now have just a 1 game lead over the Falcons. The Panthers have a 1 game lead, but of the three teams ahead of the Falcons…I’d say they are the least likely to play more than .500 the rest of the way.
Ok, so realistically the Falcons aren’t going to win the division, but much stranger things have happened.

Yet all of you morons forget that with Vick, this team would have at least 4 more wins. Way to go white Atlanta, you got your wish and ran the best QB ever to play the game off.

Dear FreeMikeVick, I’m the moron? I did not run Mike Vick out of town. He admited to committing a felony. Did white Atlanta put a gun to his head and force him to commit this felony? Did white Atlanta pay him 130 million bucks. Was this not enough? You say he would have 4 more wins. You think we would be 7-1 this year? He only lead us to 7 wins last year with a better team. You say he is the “best QB ever to play the game”? No winning record the last 2 years and no visits to the Super Bowl and you think he is the best ever? I liked Mike Vick, but dont call me a moron

You win and forget draft picks. Top draft picks mean nothing. Read some NFL history why don’t yah? Look at what we’ve picked in the past that tanked. A win is a win and sets the mindset for another season. No team in the history of the nfl has purposely lost games for better picks. A lot of brain damaged people on this blog.

All right folks, wake up and face reality. This team is going nowhere significant. Two wins in a row? Talk to me about getting excited when you win 9 in a row like the Patriots. And thats the point. Get as excited as you want, but this franchise is going nowhere near the Super Bowl (which is still the ONLY worthwhile goal) until a) they draft another Franchise QB like the one they lost (Vick), i.e., see P. Manning, Brady, Romo, Rothlesberger, Bress, Favre, etc. b)restore a top five or ten running game c) hire a Super Bowl experienced coach, (see M. Tomlin at Pittsburgh, etc.). I was never sold on Petrino being the answer, because the last 15 S.B. winning coaches going back to B. Switzer all had prior S.B. experience as coordinators or coaches. Why are we trying (unsuccessfully, so far) to buck the trend? Don’t get your hopes up folks, we have years of mediocrity to go.
