The Predator’s on the loose

Flowery Branch — The Falcons beat a bad San Francisco team Sunday but the caliber of the foe doesn’t matter much after losing six of the first seven and a victory is crucial.

Several players stepped up, particularly on defense, but the biggest difference maker was end John Abraham. Abe had a sack and a forced fumble and he seemed to take up residence in San Francisco’s backfield.

He could have just been warming up because he’s getting ready to play against the team he’s wreaked the most havoc against over the past two seasons, Carolina. In two of Atlanta’s past three games vs. the Panthers, he has four sacks and two forced fumbles. This week, his prey will be QB David Carr, who was sacked seven times in a loss to Tennessee Sunday.

The Predator has six sacks this season and we’re starting to see how good he can be if he stays healthy. If tackle Rod Coleman can get anywhere near where he’s capable of playing and if rookie Jamaal Anderson figures things out any time soon, Abe’s presence could allow other people opportunities to ring up some sacks or pressures.

There was no update about tailback Jerious Norwood’s right ankle injury from coach Bobby Petrino Monday. Norwood did not need crutches or any other type of support after the game but he did limp gingerly.

In other injury news, RT Todd Weiner (knee surgery) return for Sunday’s game at Carolina. He was active against the 49ers but he did not play. He could replace Tyson Clabo and Clabo could serve as the swing tackle to Clabo could be moved to left tackle, although Quinn Ojinnaka performed fairly well, Petrino said.

The returns of quarterback Byron Leftwich (ankle) and tight end Alge Crumpler (knee/ankle) could be soon, but maybe not this week.

It is the beginning. Petrino has everything lined up. As long as arthur stays out of his way, this team will keep growing.

I would hope Leftwich is back for this division game….but Carolina’s defense has been playing pretty poorly…maybe the birds can pull one out.

Fire that idiot Petrino. he belongs in college. he calls stupid plays, makes the wrong decisions, and his ego is way too big for such a little man. yeah, that’s is….he has a napoleanic complex.

stupid little coach!

Use Ovie to open the lanes and be our Red Zone offense. If we are getting more lanes with these line men, make them the running offense.

Tighten our TEs in if they are in protection to give Joey one more second to make a read and an accurate throw.

We need DHall to play tough and smart this weekend. Let’s try to make sure Dunn gets his 10k yards, on the way to a few more victories this year.

No Vick = Losing Season

Jamaal Anderson - did he even play on Sunday? He had zero - yes zero tackles. Is he a bust or just slow to develop?

How did Ovie Mughelli sign the richest ever contract for a fullback and then play so little? Yes I know he scored his 1st TD by ground on Sunday. The Falcons have 2 slow as molasses Quarterbacks and we don’t use Mughelli to block for them in the backfield?

How could get Falcons get rid of the too-lenient, player-friendly Jim Mora and wind up with Bobby Petrino, who treats players like they are college freshmen? Are we just trying to show we can fail equally well with Coaches on the opposite ends of the discipline scale?

Vick Supporter… I want to gently let you in on the fact that the last 2 seasons were losing seasons with Vick. Maybe this is the first year you have kept up with the Falcons so I want to give you the benefit of a doubt. But now you know for sure and so hopefully you can stop making yourself look like a fool now ;) God Bless and GO FALCONS!!!!

“Terminator” is doing his job, and well. The rest of the Falcons should take notice.

Matt,

In support of Vick Supporter, Vick was playing with the same team we have now. I don’t think there’s any dispute that the team looked much better with Vick. He was the only shot this team had.

Hey Matt, Those were also losing seasons with Dunn, Weiner, Crumpler, McClure, White, Jenkins…..and notice how you’re now losing in the first half of the season, not even making it interesting when Dec gets here (when the Falcons will clearly be out of the running for anything other than a top 5 draft pick). Please…YOU stop making a fool of YOURSELF!
