2 winnable games and Falcons are 0-2

Say what you want about quarterback Joey Harrington, the Falcons let up seven more sacks in Sunday’s 13-7 loss to Jacksonville. That’s 13 sacks in two games. That puts the Falcons on track to give up 104 sacks this season.

Clearly, the Falcons have trouble on the offensive line. Bobby Petrino’s new offense won’t work if opponents keep getting to Harrington. And rest assured, future opponents will keep coming until the Falcons prove they can stop the pass rush.

Two winnable games are over and the Falcons stand at 0-2. Next up is Carolina, Houston (led by one Matt Schaub) and Tennessee.

The kicker has really cost the Falcons and the offensive line appears to be on vacation. The team, though not going well, is still better than it would have been with the convicted felon. When Dan Reeves took over the Falcons were 1-7 in their first eight games. They won 20 of the next 24!

Wel Georgia got what it wanted. A real traditional QB in Joey Harrington..So I dont feel sorry for the Falcons and the current fans at all. Although Vick did what he did and messed up, the fact that people undervalued his worth to the team saddened me and now you know it wasnt his fault all the time when we lost games. Everything has to click on defense, field goals, o-line etc.

Go ahead Falcon fans, act like you dont need Vick. The more Harrington gets sacked, the more you will realize what a great QB Vick was. Hell would have to freeze over before Vick could get sacked 13 TIMES IN 2 GAMES.

We still have the same old sorry OL. We are too small to maintain 300lb DL for 4 quarters. The Falcons don’t get it! Match size for size. We had several big OL during training camp. Where are they now! We need young, strong and hungery RBs. We had them during training camp. Where are they now!

Matt shaub is 2-0 this season and looking like a very good QB. And supposedly he isn’t playing behind a very good line either. Hmmm. Where are all the vick loving- shaub bashers at now? Dude is proving he is a quality NFL QB.

Falcons management can blame the loss of this season on vick if they want. But I say the falcons problems stem from an awful front office and personnel staff. Good move releasing veteran kicker billy cundiff to go with a guy who has never kicked in the NFL. It clearly cost us a chance to win the game today. If I’m blank, mcKay would be getting a pink slip soon.

When’s the last time this team invested a draft choice in a kicker? Seems to me we could have used one of our 150 6th round picks this year on Mason Crosby, who (correct me if I’m wrong) is perfect so far this year.

By Brian

It’s not just the O-line. Joey hangs onto the ball too long when there was time to get rid of it. If they don’t release that kicker this week I will be surprised. I am sure the players have lost all confidence in him now. When he missed that second FG it totally turned the momentum after a good long drive.

You could put Peyton manning back there and the results would be the same. This offensive line might be worse then the 1976 line that cost bartkowski his season and all total they gave up 56 sacks total.Wideouts weren’nt bad today and at least Norwood is geting some touches. Harrington I truely believe if given the time can win in this league. His unfortune is that he played behind very bad detroit and Atlanta lines. At least we look forward to the first pick in the draft, and 2 very high picks in the second and with the cash money we will get awarded from Vicks contract we can sign some BIG and i mean BIg Offensive linemen, another long falcon season ahead for us and we might even set some records for sacks allowed and points scored, and also record number of no shows at the Dome.Patience is a virtue we must have being a falcon fan.

Some of Petrino’s decisions seem very shaky at this point. Trading Schaub at the outset with no viable backup for Vick other than Harrington. And, cutting the veteran kicker for the guy we have now- who is 1/4. These were two of our most winnable games, and we lost them both. On the bright side, we’re number 1 with a bullet in the Brian Brohm sweepstakes!

By Dan

What’s disheartening is that the Falcons had two rookies playing on the left side (Blalock and Foster) and the pass rush was coming off the right side. With Gandy’s sorry butt out of the game our left side of the o-line looked good, it was the veterans McClure, Forney and Weiner who didn’t get the job done.

20/20 is always easy but Matt Schaub (I hope that is spelled correct) sure is playing well with the terrible O line they have in Houston. I think it is about time that Rich McCay starts feeling the heat for some of the terrible draft choices he has made.

Roddy White, Michael Jenkins, Jimmy Williams. These guys haven’t done crap!!! I don’t blame the coaches yet because they have to play the cards they are dealt.

The Offensive Line gave up Seven Sacks but they protected well for the most part. Harrington had time to pass on almost every play in which the Jaguars didn’t Blitz. Harrington needs to make quicker decisions, what’s frustrating is seeing how well Schaub is playing for the Texans. At the same time why did we bring in Prater? He’s the worst kicker I’ve ever seen, he needs to be cut immediately. These two moves are on McKay in my opinion, who seems to get a pass. The defense has looked very good for the most part, especially Abraham. Unfortunately we’re abysmal at the QB position and our offense reminds me of Chris Simms and the Bucs or Carr & The Texans offense the past few seasons. Very stagnant, basic… this team needs a QB bad. I don’t see why we didn’t try to get Culpepper or even Leftwich. You can’t expect Petrino to be a miracle worker with Harrington.

Wow. It looks like we keep singing the same song over and over again. Offensive Line. They are horrible. Until the falcons are able to protect their QB, they will lose a lot of games this year. Vick made that offensive line look decent.

I watched Schaub beat up Houston. He looked great. However, his offensive line gave him great protection. The Panthers linemen never got to him. I can bet anyone that even if you put Brady as the falcons QB, he won’t win many games cos of the offensive line.

Bottom line: You have to be able to give your QB time in the pocket. I see the falcons winning 3-5 games this yr and also setting the record for the number of sacks giving up.

By Jonathan Powell

September 16, 2007 5:11 PM | Link to this

Thats why Vick’s speed and mobility was crucial when the offensive line broke down. I am tired if Matt Shaub was here, the results would be the same because of the offensive line. Atlanta defense has played well. but now the offense will not help them.I think the Atlanta will not when many games this year. Mr. Blank and Mckay need to stop being so humble this year. Because they will miss Michael Vick with plays that he makes nothing out of something. So words of wisdom for the Owner and GM you need to fix it quick.

I really wasn’t happy when Petrino was named as the new coach. Even with Vick, I know this offense would not make a difference. Now the falcons have to relearn a new offensive plan, and it seems they are on the learning curve.

Tell me why did the Falcons feel the need to cut Billy Cundiff when they have a kicker who constantly misses? Falcons played good enough defense to win that game, and Joey did a great job finding the open guys. But if they don’t score a TD when they reach the 30-yard line, then they will not score. Special teams is bad as well.

Meanwhile, Matt Schaub went 20-28 for 227 yards and 2 TDs with no INTs. Again, thanks for the trade McKay. Now can we finally go get some offensive linemen?

First of all, Joey Harrington has no business in an NFL uniform. He harkins memories of Akili Smith- wait- that might be seen as offensive to Akili Smith. The bottom line is that the Falcons don’t have a legitimate NFL quarterback on their active roster. Until they get someone back there running the offense that has some talent, leadership skills, and experience, this team will stumble to a winless season. Maybe having the #1 overall pick wouldn’t be so bad…that is if the front office can finally pull off the right pick for once. The King has spoken…

Not only do they need to learn how to block, they need to learn how to pick up blitzes. 13 sacks in two games for Harrington does not bode well for the future.

Good thing Vince Lombardi is not aound as head coach. He would have met him as he went to board the plane and said.”Sorry son. This plane is for Falcon players only. Here we go again…..HARRINGTON and the RECEIVERS are to blame for at least 4 of the sacks…holding onto the ball too long…not throwing it out of bounds, and the recievers not getting open. The ol is and has been for a long time, woeful. I don’t believe any qb could prosper with this line. The defense plays well enough to win but the offense is offensive, due primarily to the ol. I honestly believe that if Vick hadn’t been so stupid, we’d be 2-0, because of his mobility.

Lets see the problem with the Falcons offense is the other teams defense keeps running through it. Never understood the term winnable. At the end of the game one side wins and the other loses. So now you are classifying a lost as winnable. Interesting. Maybe you and the morning crew from 790 the zone can suit up next game and give it the ole college try.

0-2 with a “traditional” QB. The people actually watching this team the last few years pointed out the fact the OL was a real weakness for this team. But instead, you all blamed Vick for our offensive woes. Well, 2 games in and Harrington has been sacked 14 times. The OL can’t get a push up front to open holes for the running game. We have NO threat on offense. Vick was the ONLY player that people feared when they played us. He’s gone and I don’t know if the Falcons can recover.

This pathetic franchise has the worst of all three components necessary for a successful team: ownership, general management and coaching.

This owner gave a 130 million contract to a degenerate thug who could only run fast and throw a long, tight spiral and ignored the professional and personal weaknesses that any person with a triple digit could easily predict. The VP and general manager has drafted the worst talent in the league for years and then made some of the dumbest trades this past year (Schaub). The coach allows the team to trade Rossum and sign a kicker who no one else wanted while letting a proven kicker walk. The results? Jamal Anderson hasn’t been heard from in two games, dropped catches by Jenkins, no returns, missed field goals and an 0-2 start.

Why would anyone with anything else to do next Sunday want to fight the traffic and deal with Atlanta trash around the Georgia Dome just to watch this collective group of idiots imitate an NFL Franchise?

I just hope I can sell as many of my season tickets as quickly as I can before I can’t GIVE them away!

Not only is the O-lie sucking wind, but can we get Mort back - two FG’s missed today could’ve had it tied up and least give the offense some respect for the success(when they hadit) of getting down into scoring territory. Reason #1 We changed to a passing offense when we had the number 1 rushing team last season? Reason #2 We released our kicker for a kid in camp for two days? Reason #3 We are letting Byron Leftwich sit and wait for a team that has since. Reason #4 Our coach wants to bring back the run and shoot without Warren Moon and now Dunn has to beg to be more involved in the passing game to help us. But of course the haters will blame it on Michael Vick Cheer up Atlanta, your getting just what you asked for!!

This franchise is worse off under Arthur Blank than it ever was under the Smith family.

Here’s my justification:

  • Blank is on his fourth head coach in only a few years of ownership.

  • He rewarded and tolerated Mike Vick’s selfish antics (and lack of fire, leadership, etc) on and off the field. The end result was worse than bad.

  • He hired the worst GM in the world. McKay has a record of poor picks, bad signings, and he traded away Schaub at the worst time.

  • The Falcons fans and the city have never been more divided among themselves.

Also, why does Blank keep walking the sidelines? It’s disrespectful to the coach. No other owners do that, except for Jones in Dallas. But at least Jones has won Super Bowls. As long as Blank keeps showing up on the side, no big name coach will ever want to come here. Guys like the Big Tuna would never put up with that. That’s why we’re stuck with untested jokers like Mora and Petrino. Obviously, owning the Falcons is just a way for Blank to be seen and loved.

Blank: Please sell the team to someone who knows what they are doing!

The Falcons have ignored their offensive line problems for years. This team could easily lose 11-12 games. At least we should have a high draft pick next April. At some point, Rich McKay has to be accountable for the talent (or lack thereof) on the field, particularly on the offensive side of the ball. Meanwhile, the QB we traded away continues to light it up for the Texans. The front office of this team doesn’t seem to be able to do anything right.

Our offensive line is an upgrade from last year with better protection. Harrington is too indecisive with ZERO scrambling ability. They try to say Houston has an poor offensive line but Matt Schaub help his team to an 2-0 season. It is too bad Vick got himself in all that trouble because we would be 2-0 instead of 0-2.

I’m happy for Matt Schaub… Now I can’t say he hasn’t proven himself… Obviously, the guys who called him a future hall-of-famer are still way ahead of themselves, but now he’s 2-2 instead of 0-2, with pretty good stats. Good for him.

The Atlanta Falcons offence is SOOOooo bad,..(how bad is it?),….It’s SO bad that there is NO other team in the NFL with LESS points, (10) then the Falcons.

It’s SOOOOoooo bad,…that the Vikings DEFENCE has outscored the Falcons 21-10. (Oh, and at the time of this post, Minnesota has only played 7 quarters).

It’s bad folks.

Way to go McKAY! You trade Schaub who is lighting up in Texas for a bona fide loser like Harrington and hire a coach who has no clue of what an O-line is supposed to be at the NFL level. And to put the icing on the cake you cut a decent kicker in Cundiff for a bozo like Praeter who has never had any regular season NFL experience. Those two misses today just maybe would have given Atlanta a snowballs chance for win. You and Blank mus really have a hard on for losing because these stiffs will keep it going for you all season long. 0-16 coming Atlanta fans. Hello number one draft pick for 2008. Poor pathetic Fal-CONS. (As in conning fans out of any hope for winning!)

And what kind of pressure is put on the offense/defense when the kicker can’t make a 26 yd field goal? Despite the pressure on Harrington, the Falcons had a golden opportunity…a new kicker is desperately needed.

Even before we knew Vick was involved in dog fighting, my friends and I were talking about the Falcolns and we all agreed that Vick was a “team killer” and Matt Schaub should be the quarterback. Why can many fans see this but the owner/coach cannot? Are they too close to the situation? Maybe it would have been wise to seek counsel from some outside the organization. Oh well…

Hang it up. Team too tied to Mike Vick’s play making to put in any type of offense for Harrington. Offense not built around Harringtons type of play. He will be 6 feet under before it ever is. No one can take that abuse. Same old falcons, never prepared. Should have never let Dan Reeves go.

You know it’s been a long day when Roddy White was the the best part of your offense. And please, get rid of Prater immediately. It seems he either hooks or slices every field goal attempt. Both Morton Anderson and/or Cundiff would have made both of those missed FG’s. Let Koenen kick anything over 45 yards and go with an accurate leg. And where is this exciting and innovative Petrino offense we are expecting to see? Maybe this marginal at best O-line is limiting Petrino’s options. Way too many sacks and overall, the team is boring and below average. I’m still hoping for better things on the horizon but so far this is VERY depressing.

It’s not Joey! The great businessman who owns the Falcons mad the dumbest move in NFL history (omg what if he had made equally dumb moves with Home Depot?) signing away the always-dim future of the Falcons for that equally-dumb Mike Vick. To Vick’s credit he is/was an incredible athlete but he is not a quarterback and never will be. If the team had spent some of that stupidly-promised money where most teams do perhaps Harrington would be able to see some receivers instead of defensive players when he drops back into a pocket!

Harrington is not the problem. Yes he still holds the ball too long at times, but this OL is the worst I have ever seen. Here’s the thing though, the coaching staff has to make the adjustments that make the offense work with the personell it has. D is fine. Kicker has to go. Roddy was awesome.

Arthur Blank’s decision makers never seem to get or take any blame. The thinking behind using an inexperienced and unproven kid like Prater in a position that wins or loses games is just stupid. But I’m sure it will be blamed on Prater not the people who put him there. See the firing of Reeves, the hiring of Mora, etc. The beat goes on.

I am so angry at our special teams play. What Bozo decided to get rid of our field goal kicker for the dude we have now. He is awful and if the truth is that he came in for one try out and was given the job thats just crazy. Lets be honest whoever made that decision should be in the front of the line leaving the Falcons complex. What is this guy a family member or a favor owed. Get rid of this guy before he loses us anymore games. What a back breaker for a team that played so hard.

The Falcons are 0-2 with a first year coach and quarterback, and Houston is 2-0 with a new qb, Matt Schaub, and 2d year coach, Kubiak.

I guess Matt Schaub isn’t the scrub most of you Mike Vick kool-aid drinkers have been saying he is. Until the federal charges emerged against Michael Vick, the main criticism against him was his efficiency as a quarterback, even with his obvious play-making capability. After his first starting season in the NFL, defensive coordinators began figuring out how to defend against him, and how to do it effectively. Unfortunately, Michael Vick apparently thought he could continue to ad-lib rather than become a true student of the game (vide Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Carson Palmer, et al). It appears Joey Harrington is a student of the game too, but needs a O-line capable of providing the protection necessary.

This is what you people wanted, a tall, pocketpassing, efficient, Not Vick QB, and thats what you got. people with sense tried to tell you thought, THE REST OF THIS TEAM IS NOT TALENTED ENOUGH TO PLSY WITH A NON PLAYMAKING QB. This is NOT a good team. its ‘leaders’ Brooking, Dunn, and Millow, ALL SUCK! They can’t change a game, they are only good by Falcons standards, and thats pitiful to mediocre play. They won’t even show highlights of the game, its pitiful. Y’all shoulda remembered that dogs are worthless and useless and this is, and remains a one man team.

Society’s poor choice of what matters and what doesn’t is what put Atlanta in this predicament. No man should lose his job or freedom over a dog.

I hate this football season already. Falcons and Dawgs seem to parallel one another. Both have crappy O-lines and a not so physical D against the run. Harrington has been servicable, but we need a Matt Schaub like QB to give us a chance. Oh yeah, he was ours. Maybe we can get one with the #1 pick in next years draft. Petrino would love to get Brhaum(sp) out of Loisville. When does Spring training start?? Maybe the Braves, Falcons or Dawgs will put it together NEXT year. I am thinking about becoming a Gator fan…….

Well a lot of Falcons fans got what they wished for & so did Petrino. A bigger o-line. I have not in two games seen how great Petrino or his big line is any good. We got what we deserve a collage coach who is lost in the NFL. I hope some how we can turn it around but don’t see it happening. Petrino’s judgement of talent is proven in his choice of kicker, way to go coach.

The loss this week was disturbing, in that it was a game that TRULY was very winnable. The Falcons had control of this game after the touchdown (mentally and emotionally, laong with momentum) and seemed to just flat out get tired down the stretch. Missing those field goals didn’t help, but NOT scoring or coming close to doing so was the most potent blow. I am solely and whole convinced that Harrington played fairly well, and even more convinced that the defense did a pretty decent job today (although 272 through the air is only 18 yards short of 300; which by any most standards would be a large amount of yards to give up through the air), even though the Jags do not really have the best receiving core in the league. The thing that I have the MOST covniction about, however, is the fact that this offensive line is absolutely pourous and ALWAYS HAS BEEN!!!! No quarterback can have success behind this offensive line until it is able to protect (decently) on a consitent basis. It would not matter WHO the qurterback is Matt Schaub or anyone else - please know that he would be be running for his life, just like Michael Vcick was and throwing to a receiving core that has been VERY inconsistent over the past 4 years. I saw Petrino make some game-to-game adjustments (which made this a more competitve game for the Falcons) and I think that already puts him LIGHT YEARS ahead of the old coaching regime. One thing that concerns me is the “HEART” that this team has and the way that they handle adversity. The Falcons are in a mode of folding and this is not Petrino’s doing, he inherited a team that has been this way for the past 3 years (new players have come on board and adopted this way of being). Petrino will change that - it will take TIME however and the expulsion of a few players that have been there a while. Brooking, like Dunn is a good guy, but his best days are behind him and he seems ot have the “loser’s mentality”. There will have to be a decsion from Arthur Blank: Do you want a team full of “Character Guys” or do you want a team with “a few character guys”, along with other personalities that (like most other SUCCESSFUL NFL franchises) are more capable of winning, but have to be managed. Unfortunately, most of the successful teams in this league do not have a team full of “nice guys” - that does not mean that they have a team full of miscreants either, but this is a game based on punishing your opponent and using your intelligence to enforce your will upon them until they either “cry uncle” or get rattled into (or depserate enough to )making mistakes. In either case part fo the job of a coach is to manage the personalities that he has to work with (I am not saying that the coach is supposed to be a babysitter), but I cannot name a single owner in the league that has placed such a high emphasis on “having ONLY character guys” on their team. No other owner has seemingly placed more emphasis on the “character” of his players versus the hosting a set of individuals who can be perform and be coached with GOOD coaching (Arthur Blank’s decision to hire Mora over L. Smith set this franchise back; how far back is debatable, but it certainly set this franchise back given Lovie’s philosophy on building a team and concentrating on excellence on the defensive and offensive lines FIRST - I mean, the Bears are working with a truly bad QB; to be clear and they still expect and are expected to WIN)). At any rate - since this has starting to ramble and turn into a LOOONG BLOG entry. My point being - this team was slightly better this week, despite the loss, but the SAME problems exist with the offensive line and the mentality of these players (although that may be slightly changing). Some of the older players really do not even know HOW to win, let alone hold a winner’s mentality - trust me, you change those things and you change the direction of the franchise!! Anyone have thoughts???

Byron Leftwich wouldn’t be any better behind that sieve of an offensive line, although Joey does hold the ball too long which doesn’t help. The defense played well enough to win & held the other team to 13 points. That kicker BETTER be fired & they need to call Morten or Billy Cundiff ASAP!! As precious as points are to this team, we can’t afford to come away empty every time we need a field goal!! I will have to say also, good game to Roddy White to has taken alot of heat. I still say we miss Allan Rossum, too, I can’t picture Jennings breaking one open for a punt return touchdown. This is so depressing, and next year will probably be another “rebuilding” year with a rookie QB. Sigh.

I’m not sure but it doesn’t appear that the QB can throw the ball 20 yards downfield. Some of the passes he completed looked very wobbly. Speaking of the (7) sacks,at least four was his fault for not simply throwing the ball away. The kicker very well may have a strong leg,but if the ball isn’t going through the uprights, can you say Morten Andersen?

Clearly it’s not the OLine….At least not completely, It’s John Joseph Harrington. He’s had more than enough time to get rid of the ball, the analyst even made that point. He plays well when the other team only rushes four lineman. He’s an average back up, who we expect to take us to the playoff’s. it’s just not realistic. BTW, our special teams suck. Jenning isn’t ready, and our best RB is gonna get injured returning kicks…..MV#7 would have shredded both Minnesota & Jax with one leg.

I attribute this loss in part to the incompetence of Rich McKay. With so many pro games decided by a field goal or less, how in the world can you blithely assume that any halfway decent kicker can be found off the scrapheap? There’s a reason why John Carney, Gary Anderson, Morten Andersen, Jason Hansen, etc last so long in this league: quality accurate kickers are hard to find!

But that is just one glaring hole among the many in the Falcons personnel. Porous offensive line, butterfingered receivers, no pounding RB, weak secondary, past-his-prime Brooking, injury-prone Abraham, about to be prosecuted Babineaux.

By the way, where was Jimmy Williams today? I don’t think I heard his name once. I heard Jamaal Anderson’s name once.

Oh, brother, it’s a fight to bottom with Kansas City and Buffalo. Oh, and Matt Schaub had a stellar day.

Dear Lord, we suck. I was quietly optimistic that the team wasn’t as bad as everyone was saying (I thought predictions like 5-11, 4-12 were overly negative) but watching these first two games makes me wonder if the whole season might be an 0-fer. Game was blacked out in Savannah on on Direct TV! Hows is it the NFL even blacksout the game when I’m paying to see them all just like Peyton says in that damn commercial! If they can’t sell enough tickets in Jacksonville to show it locally I should at least be able to see them lose on NFL sunday ticket. Then again, maybe it was a good thing. I don’t see the Falcons winning two games. No wonder Vick was always running for his life! It’s pathetic! But in a way, I’m almost rooting against them. After all of the stupid things ownership has done from jacking up ticket prices after crappy years, to the thug that is Vick, they may it pretty hard to root for the franchise. I feel sorry for players like Brooking. Maybe Kearney saw something that no one else did. GIVE NORWOOD THE DAMN BALL. He certainly seems to do pretty well when they give him the chance! Couldn’t anyone have seen this coming? Take away the QB who can bootleg and bail out the line when they whiff on another blitz, replace him with one who is as mobile as Hank Aaron’s statute without making a significant upgrade to the line in over a decade (and nope, Todd Weiner and an aging Wayne Gandy doesn’t count) and its a recipe for disaster.

I’ve been saying this for years now regarding the offensive line (or lack thereof), even when Chandler was still playing. There’s a reason you-know-who ran for over 1,000 yards in a season; it was because most of the time, he HAD to. Not having him around anymore also kills the run game because the extra defensive player who normally had to stay home because of #7 can now pin their ears back and crash down on Dunn and Norwood at the line of scrimmage.

Say what you want about him but he was a good deoderant for an offensive line which stinks out loud.

**The Falcons were close against Jacksonville but lost for the following reasons: missed fgs./offensive line problems/and Joey Harrington holding ball way too long. I believe the quarterback is the key and when the game is close he must make good decisions whether the o-line has poor blocking or not. He can’t afford to take sacks at crucial times….bottom line. A leader must decide to throw the ball away and live for the next play. I wish Harrington was the answer but his management and vision are questionable. He looks the part but is not even an average quarterback in crucial situations compared to Peyton Manning. Harrington makes several plays that say maybe he can play this game and then acts like he doesn’t understand down and distance situations. The Atlanta fans deserve better. I sure wish Shockley had not gotten hurt. The kid from Boston College (Ryan) could start for the Falcons now! I watched Ryan with his pin point passing shred the Tech defense in Atlanta Saturday night. I just hope the Falcons can find someone (anyone) who can give us hope in the future. Our fans deserve it!

It is the same OLine that the team deemed not just ‘good enough’ but in fact “MVP’S” when they were letting guys loose on Mike Vick every play. Only now, however, can the media, fans and I guess finally the team see that their “protection” is absolutely sub-par.

McKay felt that Gibbs strategy of acquiring and starting reject linemen was fine before. No sense changing things now. Let’s set some records.

And remember, as pitiful as the offense looks, all the local shock-jocks were saying this was make-or-break year for Michael Vick here anyway — as if he had to take this sqad to the Super bowl or be deemed a complete bust. But now we hear the team is very short on talent and poorly designed.

Well, well, well…the chickens are coming home to roost. Deliberately design a team that has poor talent on the OLine and what do you expect? Let’s just all take solace in the fact that this is all a part of the team’s master plan.

It’s great, isn’t it?

(And to think, there was a time Randy Moss and T.O. wanted to come here to Atlanta. I doubt top players want to come here now that our one player is now gone.Shame, shame shame.)

Tis a sad situation facing the Atlanta Falcons that touches all aspects of the franchise. The story reads like bad Shakespeare, equal to one of the Bard’s best tragedy plays. If the loss of Vick is like losing the team’s heart and soul, then the Falcons didn’t have a future with Vick at the helm. So, in my opinion the Vick transistion was destined to end badly…so let’s be glad the process has begun, one that willlead to a Superbowl within 3 years. Binge, Purge and move on.

Well, we know that wasn’t Mike Vick, because he can’t (1) type (2) type in complete sentences and (3) communicate in any manner that makes sense.

So, the Falcons are 0-2. At least the QB can speak English. It’s refreshing.

Stick to the fundamentals. Put your money in both lines and you give your team a chance. The game is won and lost in the trenches. Hence, we lose.
Leave Foster at LT and let’s see what we have. Keep Harrington at QB and let him take the knocks.
I live out of town, but unfortunately, I alread have tickets for the Giants game. I can’t believe I am going to spend a lot of hard-earned money on this team.

GS - Actually…Hell yes it is Mike Vick’s freaking fault! Falcon management - in a show of support and belief in Mike’s future potential - traded Matt Schaub to Houston. Matt Shaub who knew the players and could easily learn the new Petrino system…Matt Schaub who is 2-0 with the formerly abysmal Texans. So you can take your Vick apologist crap somewhere else. The entire season is dedicated to that lying creep of a home boy MV.

To be honest, the people that talked down on Vick deserve to watch this team perish. You never forget your past. It seems you people did. THIS is the real Falcons. This is the story of 36 of 41 years of this franchise. NO CHANCE to win. No interest, NO GOOD PLAYERS. Just smiley faced losers that HAPPEN to be choir boys. LOSERS. I love it!

Thats why you have leaders like Dunn and Brooking… haha…ok… i’m tickling myself now. With leaders like those two no wonder the FAlcons look HORRIBLE!

Bobby “Punt” Petrino can take some of the blame himself! His NFL clock management stinks!

Last week he lays down with 1:14 to go and down by 7 in the first half and them behind by two scores with just under 7 minutes decides to punt away rather than go for a first down! Like 7 minutes minus their next possession will give us enough time to come back?

Then today with just over 2 minutes he elects to punt again instead of trying to score and keep control of the ball!

Pitiful clock management!

Please name one college coach that made a successful transition from college to the pros (excluding Jimmy Johnson)! College coaches coach college teams. Professional coaches with expirience coach in the NFL! I thought it was a bad move when Petrino was named as coach of the Falcons! I really hoped he would prove me wrong!! What happened to our high powered, high scoring offesne? The Falcons might actually go 0-16 this season. Same horrible offensive line and recievers. Somae losing mentality!

It amazes me the heat the Joey is taking. He played well enough today to win. I don’t who is QB — if he can not take a three step drop before being sacked, no pass will be complete. As for an 0-16 season— The 93 Cowboys started 0-2 and won a super bowl. Give Harrington a break — when given a couple seconds to throw he was able to complete passes. 12-20 of 200 yards. Vick had all of three (3) games last year where he passed for 200+ yards. Get off the Vivk band wagon and give this team some time. In the long run I think people will be pleasantly suprised.

I lay the blame on Arthur Blank. He’s the one who acquired Vick, mishandled him every step of the way, and let Shaub get away. I can’t believe that Blank was so inept that his investigators couldn’t get wind of Vick’s problems. I think he simply didn’t want to know the truth. Surely he could have ascertained that Vick didn’t have a damn brain in his head.

Vick wasnt nothing but a kid who was a great athelete. When the moron Blank fired Dan Reeves because he couldnt stand having someone with a greater standing in the NFL overshadowing the onwer, he fired him and hired an unproved “CHEER LEADER”.

Vick was then allowed to do anything. He was the messiah that Arthur shouldnt believe in and Vick knew it.

Now another head coach later, we play the same game.

Rich McKay is nothing but a well spoken lawyer not a football guy. I knew there were problems when Blank admitted to dreaming about McKay. Funny to say the least.

I think Atlanta is getting just what they deserve. I hope they loose every game this year and for the years to come. Racism is still alive and well, not only in Atlanta, but everywhere. Mike Vick was just used as an example. Horses are put to death everyday for under performance, deers are killed for sport, and you complain about dogs. What he did was probably wrong, but to take away his livelyhood is awful. He is, and always has been a great QUARTERBACK. As for Warrick Dunn, I hope you’re out as well. The media murdered Mike, that’s all you heard about in the news. Have you heard anything about the Jena Six in the news? NO! Why not? Because it’s not considered news to the media, because it’s only dealing with the lives of our black young boys, who haven’t begun to live their life. Check it out people, and WAKE UP.

First of all, without question, management and coaching needs to admit they made a mistake about Prater and axe him. 3 missed field goals in two games with one but a mere extra point distance chip shot is unacceptable. Admit the mistake, correct it, and move on. Secondly, obviously, the O-line needs a shake up. I can’t find specific stats as to who has been charged with the 13 sacks that we have given up, but changes definitely need to be made. I for one thought Renardo Foster did a decent job inplace of Gandy except for the holding call late in the fourth quarter that negated the first down. Third, Harrington definitely has been holding the ball too long. He could have thrown it away more than once to avoid the sack, but didn’t. There was one play were Joey shook off the probably sack in the pocket and escaped only to scramble outside and get sacked when he could have thrown the ball away. You gotta get the ball out quicker Joey. Fourth, Our running game has yet to show up though I thought each RB did better than last week. I have a problem with the fact that on 3rd on short, we’re lining up and handing the ball off in a shot gun formation and trying to pull gaurds on other short yardage plays. Line up and smash it in there. Oh and don’t bring some RB (Pinner) that nobody knows to come in and try to convert on third and one anyway. Ovie needs to fill that role without question. Fifth, The defense laid down after the second missed field goal by Prater. CB Sanders reminds me of Webster getting beat time and time again last year. Find another body. DeAngelo going for the strip instead of the tackle shows me he is more concerned with being a show boat than a rounded player. And our safties lack the size and physical play to be successful. I mean to have Milloy ran over when trying to make the tackle on the running back and slammed to the ground and then dragged Jimmy Williams half way down the field is not gonna cut it. Safties should be cracking RB heads and laying somebody out. And finally, Adam Jennings averaging 1.3 yards per punt return is not gonna cut it. Was he really the better choice over Rossum?

It’s no wonder Georgia ranks near the bottom of the list in SAT scores. When hearing comments like these, it should be no surprise. You blind Vick loyalists already had it out for Harrington before he could even take a single snap. Harrington hasn’t been the tremendous bust like you think he has. True he holds onto the ball for too long sometimes, but then there are those “less than a second to find a receiver and throw the ball” sacks.

The people didn’t kick Vick out, Vick kicked himself out when he plead guilty to a FELONY and LIED to Blank and the commissioner about it. You aren’t true football fans. In fact, you embarrass the fans of the game in general. I’m moving up north where the football IQ is higher than room temperature. the blogster who is making an analogy to the 93 cowboys (0-2 start) certainly exemplifies the “hope springs eternal” nature of football fans. i seem to remember emmitt smith returning from a holdout for the 3rd game that year… who’s holding out for us - morten anderson? as a fan, when i look at Blank/ McKay…i feel like animal house’s Flounder- when Otter turns and says ” hey, you f*&^#d up! You trusted us!….” you can’t bet the ranch/ franchise on one person, and they did, and it blew up, and this is what you get. If we can keep petrino in place after this season (the siren song of saban), and MV is gone for good..i expect a complete older player housecleaning/ startover next year, and a new GM would be a nice part of that project. in fact, i’d just as soon go down the tubes early this season, so fans realize how much rebuilding needs to be done on offense..

Most of the problems are Management and Coaches. For making the 2 cuts they made as the train camp ended ,the one that decision should be fired. I thought Harrington would do a decent job but I see now he is not grasping the decisions like every time he changes a play it is for minus yards,, he waits to long to start changing a play and has to call a time out or gets a delay of game penalty. Stays in the pocket to long and gets sacked,, over and over. Makes his reads to slow and throws late and inaccurate. Next WHY WHY WHY isn’t the coaching staff correcting these visible problems when they keep happening. The special teams are pathetic This is the other cut that was made as the camp ended,,, cutting Rosem (spelling?) we have really missed him and it shows The QB is not getting the ball to Horn or Norwood. This is the worst coached team ever.

And this BIG Racist Commissioner who wants to play tough boy, with the black players. Some support they showed MV7 by making him play by himself. Glad he got paid for it.He was all they had to believe him. Wasn’t his fault they did find anyone else to make up the remainder of the team. But he played like hell anyway. Schaub wasn’t the greatest while he was here anyway. The line sure blocked better for him, mmm I wonder why. It amazes me how the only one who do wrong in the NFL are the black players. Or maybe the only ones who get exposed. I don’t want to know players like that, not their personal life story. And I’m sure kids don’t either. If we can mask out the bad in some players, we should mask out the bad in all(across the board). Accentuate the positive. It’s terrible we never heard the good things MV7 did. The team always sucked.
