Vick discussions continue
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
I know we planned on discussing offensive position battles this week but the developments following the indictment of Michael Vick on dogfighting charges seems to be a more pressing issue. I’ll try to blog Wednesday about offensive position battles if things aren’t too crazy with the off-field issues hovering over the franchise.
As of today, more meetings and conference calls regarding Vick’s future with the team have been and will be held. A resolution is expected by no later than Wednesday morning - the day players report to camp.
There is no indication as to which way things will play out, although more of the discussion seems to be options that don’t have Vick with the team. Whether a paid leave of absence or a suspension is the most viable option in that scenario is still being discussed.
There’s also been talk of Vick being allowed to return and earn a living while awaiting due process.
About 30 protesters from PETA were at Flowery Branch today with their message being that the Falcons need to part ways with Vick. Threats of lengthy protests of the Falcons and businesses that do business with Falcons if Vick remains with the team were abundant.
There also were a handful of anti-war protesters piggy-backing on the protest. Extra security guards and Flowery Branch police observed the peaceful protests and clearly were sizing up things for when practice starts Thursday.
Some members of the front office seem worn down already about the negativity that this situation has brought on the franchise, although they know they may have to brace themselves for more backlash, regardless of the decision.
We at the AJC are asking bloggers to be mindful what you post. This is a great forum but let’s not abuse it with profanity or offensive comments. We’re all grown enough to debate and discuss this emotional issue in a non-offensive manner.
Thanks ahead of time.
Steve

I hate PETA with EVERY fiber of my being and wish that entire crackpot, hypersensitive, ill-conceived, left-wing fanatical organization would fall of the face of Earth.
However, I will side with even scum like them over this Vick character.
I have no love for “bunny huggers,” but I’ll do just about anything to F-I-N-A-L-L-Y get OUR NFL Franchise back.
GO, FALCONS, GO!
GO, VICK, GO…….STAIGHT TO FEDERAL PRISON!!!!!!!!!!!
Hmmmm….. I think I will have a HUGE steak for dinner to (again) celebrate Vick’s indictment.

Though a deplorable practice, I find dogfighting no more egregious a moral violation than hunting OUT OF SEASON (meaning it illegal to kill the animal by law during that time of season). It is a legal matter, let’s let it play out that way.

Why are we all so quick to judge? If you want Vick out because of what he does as a football player then you have plenty ammo I suppose. Has he had enough problems and bad associations lately to tarnish the image of the team? You bet. To me, that’s enough to ask for a change.
But are you the same as the Duke DA? Do you want the Falcons to act like Duke who fired a coach and helped ruin the lives of all the kids on the team because they cancelled the season - all on the strength of an allegation (and lest we forget, an allegation from the DA’s office? Seems crdible enough)How’d that work out? Wonder how much that will cost Duke in the long run?
You are rushing to a judgement on something that you don’t know anything about. You think this is easy stuff? Put yourself or your child in this position. What would you want to happen?
Having said all this, I am in the camp of “enough is enough”. I am tired of all the crap that is following this guy and will be fine either way this goes. These allegations are horrendous to be sure - but do the Fed’s have enough on him that it’s locked up tight? I doubt it. Not with his money.
Anyway, PETA needs to shut up and let people make decisons. You have zero influence on anything except making my bucket of chicken cost more.

I really want to see Vick play, but how can he possibly play and not be a monumental distraction to the rest of the team and coaches? So what do the coaches think of DJ Shockley? While I firmly believe that Vick knew all about the dog fighting, unless there is video of him at the fights my money says he will not be convicted.

ok, he may had made a mistake. how much punishment is enough? Even if he did what’s being reported, isn’t 20 or 30 millions loss too much of a punishment? Wouldn’t it be better if a sizable donation was given to Animal rights and a good human charity. Why destroy someone. Is he going to do it again? I don’t think so with either the suspension or donation route. MAYBE THERE IS A LITTLE TOO MUCH KILL AND DESTROY IN A LOT OF US. BY THE WAY, WASN’T THAT A NICE BLOODY FIGHT THAT WE PAID FOR SAT. **ALL OF YA’LL THAT VICK SHOULD NOT PLAY SHOULD SHUT UP. AND EVERYBODY WHO SAYIN HE SHOULD BE REALESED OR GO DIE SHOULD REALLY SHUT UP. THIS IS NOT THAT SERIOUS TO ME. TO ME DOG FIGHTING IS LIKE BOXING OR FIGHTING. IF BOXING IS LEGAL WHY IS DOG FIGHTING ILLEGAL. THEY ALMOST THAT SAME THING. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE ARE THE PEOPLE IN THE FIGHT. PEOPLE ALWAYS SAY WE SHOULD TREAT ANIMALS LIKE PEOPLE, SO…TO ME VICK IS INNOCENT UNTIL SOMEBODY PROVE ME DIFFERENT… EVEN IF HE FOUND GUILTY I STILL THINK HE INNOCENT. IF OJ CAN GET OUT OF KILLING SOMEBODY THEN VICK CAN GET OUT THIS. ONCE AGAIN THIS IS NOT THAT SERIOUS AND ALL YA’LL PROTESTING NEED TO FIND SOMETHING BETTER TO DO WITH YOUR TIME THEN. AND FOR ANYBODY THAT DONT AGREE WITH YOU CAN KIIL YO SELF
P.S. IF THE FALCONS RELEASE VICK IF YALL DONT REALIZE IT OR NOT THEY ARE NOT GOING TO BE GOOD FOR YEARS BECAUSE OF SALARY CAP ISSUES AND THEY WONT BE ABLE TO SIGN A DECENT QB OR ANY OTHER GOOD PLAYERS AT THAT**

Mike, how could you get yourself into this mess? We knew you were selfish and immature, but you were still a hero. Why couldn’t you quit all this foolishness while you were on top? Now you are just another classless athlete who blew it. Going to the games now is going to be a disappointment. You not only blew it for yourself but look at the damage you have done to Arthur Blank, your coaches, teammates, and the city. You are a foolish, simple minded pariah. GROW UP. Go Falcons!

21=Top 50,1stBallot, SIT DOWN AND READ A DICTIONARY (the word is “STRAIGHT”). As for Vick, I thought we lived in a society where a person is ‘INNOCENT’ until ‘PROVEN GUILTY’.???I think the Falcons Organization is taking the right strategy … until it has been proven in a Court of Law that these accusations are true, Vick has every right to continue playing the game.

A man would take leave with pay and step down for the good of the team and the city until the chartges are resolved. But then a man wouldn’t have quit on his team and flipped off his fans. Perhaps he can be tried in juvenile court, because intellectually and ethically he’s still just a little boy.

I have a novel idea, let’s wait until the legal process has taken it’s course before we go sentencing the accused. All this reminds me of a “lynch mob” scene from Gunsmoke. These PETA nuts are pretty ridiculous if you ask me. FANATICS are what they really are. I’ve never seen that many screaming, mad white woman before in my life. It’s funny how know black people were pictured with the PETA protesters. That kinda tells you were all of this anti-Vick hate is coming from. And this charge of transporting dogs across state lines is reminiscent of the charge against legendary boxer Jack Johnson. Oh, my bad. He was transporting white woman for prostitution purposes. Are you kidding me???? LOL!! The more things change, the more things stay the same.

gdg73 - Conviction in the court of public opinion doesn’t carry any penalties for the accused, it just reinforces the ethics of the community. BTW, legally we do have a presumption of innocence. However, if in fact he did what he’s now formally accused of, he’s already guilty of it whether he’s been tried or not. The guilt is whether or not he did it, not, like OJ, whether or not he’s convicted.

I’m an NFL football fan and dog owner. Mr. vick does deserve a right to defend himself of these accusations, however… any educated person who has taken the time to read the indictment would have to agree it looks very bad. I live in San Diego. Ladanian Tomlinson is not only my favorite player, but one of the finest members any community could ever have. There are plenty of African American athletes from backgrounds such as Mr. Vicks who go on to become great community leaders. One I can think of concerning your city is Warrick Dunn, another outstanding person. Please, let’s take the focus off the race issue and put it where it belongs. This an animal cruelty issue of the most horrific kind.

It is a sad day in America when a person is not given due process, the presumption of innocence, and the ability to work receive a paycheck, until a court acts. Folks need to remember that a Grand Jury has only heard the prosecutor’s side of the story. It is not summary judgement, merely a conclusion that evidence exists to warrant the expense of a trial. In a huge percentage of empanelments, the GJ votes to proceed.
Vick should be allowed to play like Kobe, Ray, Jamal, etc. did until the court makes a decision. He doesn’t have a previous conviction. It is a dangerous precedent to say he is denied the same, even with a tougher Commissioner.
If he is convicted, then absolutely send him to jail for the maximum sentence, period.

I think that what Vick did was certainly wrong. It was his house yes, but WE don’t know exactly what really happened! It does not matter what you heard you were not there. And if he is convicted then the law will punish him to the extent that he should be punished. He is entitled to due process like the OWNER of the Atlanta Falcons said. If he is suspended and he turns out to be not guilty then what? I know you wont be outside the dome apologizing. The whole case is being overblown anyway! Why should he not be able to play football? The punishment if he is guilty is jail and 400 thousand dollars fine. I don’t care what kind of dog he’s fighting he didn’t make 400 thousand. Isn’t that enough? I think it’s just a bunch of people angry and jumping on the band wagon. Clinton Portis said he sees it all the time and he’s not being investigated or followed or people outside his camp protesting over something that has really nothing to do with them. If this were Tom Brady it would already be forgotten and people would support him through it. basically mind your business and let the law do there job. If your opinion really counted you should be worried about something a little more serious that pertains to you!!! I love Vick as my QB and I want him to stay. If he leaves he’s just going to be accepted somewhere else and go win the super bowl! Don’t be stupid fans, Vick is the greatest thing to happen to Atlanta since the braves won the world series I know you don’t watch the hawks. Who do you think the falcons are? They suck!! without Vick! Joey harrington, DJ shockley….please. This is just something to get the guys in cinci off the hook. Ray lewis was wanted for murder and people stood behind him. What’s up? Something really stinks with this whole Michael Vick dog fighting issue. Okay if Michael Vick trained dogs for dog fighting and even crossed state lines. Who were the owners of the dogs that fought his? Where are the indictments against them? If he was one of the big fish. Who was the biggest? Who were his opponents? Where are the indictments? You mean with all of their resources they could only come up with info on Michael Vick and his so called associates. People need to wake up and see that something is not right here. What people should be looking for is the Truth not partial truth but the whole truth and if there has been wrong doing then all of those who participated should be equally exposed and punished.

Michael Vick is obviously involved in this dogfighting operation up to his ears. I have read the indictment. I am aware that the unemployed cousin that he has laid the blame on for this enterprise did not have the means to finance such a costly venture as BAD NEWZ Kennels. Michael Vick both bought this house and financed this kennel in 2001, right after he got his first real payola. You can’t tell me if he did not have an ulterior motive he would have taken his first funds to by a house for his ‘cousin’. I don’t need another OJ jury to tell me what to think. It is very obvious.
I am an Atlanta Falcon Fan, and a former Michael Vick fan.
For those who say this is not a serious crime then all I can hope is that you are uninformed about exactly what he has been charged with and how he has been accused of killing dogs that would not fight. When the statement is made that pitbulls are bred to fight, what this means is that they are bred to have the SIZE necessary to be a successful fighter. They are not BORN killers and fighters. They become this way after being abused and tortured by their KILLER OWNERS in order to MAKE them fight. What Michael Vick’s animals have been forced to endure and suffer is beyond belief.
I would like to hope that Michael Vick will never wear another Atlanta Falcon jersey again.
I for one will be WITH the Peta people, the Humane Society, and just normal caring humane beings who will picket the falcons if they do not suspend michael Vick.

Tan, DAWG, gdg, all others who insist on making this about race
YOU are Mike Vick’s main problem. No matter what he does you support him. Why? Because he’s black and makes millions. Interestingly, you cite this as the reason “white people” want to bring him down. If this is truly about race then answer me this:
1) Where are the Rev. Jesse and all the other “civil rights” leaders speaking out in his favor? Well, besides you people of course.
2) When this team goes on the road to Tampa or New Orleans, you really think the only folks holding pictures of pit bulls and heckling Mike will be white? HA! This is only a “race” issue because no matter how many times the man has done stupid, embarassing things on and off the field you defend him because of his looks.
That, folks, accomplishes two things: It makes YOU racist and it teaches Mike that miscreant behavior will be overlooked due to his occupation.
What it doesn’t accomplish is to make Mike Vick a responsible human being or a good NFL qb.
But damn he’s fast…

For all those that want MV7 to just leave Atlanta, it sounds like Petrino was empowered to make that decision after this year anyway. The only question is whether Vick play well enough this year/stay out of jail to get another team interested in him such that Falcons don’t absorb his entire salary hit against the cap after 2007. If he sits, I think the subtext to all other teams (except maybe Cincy and the Raiders) is he’s too dangerous to trade for.
After one more year of tutelage, DJ (who is built and moves more like MV7 than Joey or Chris) might well be our 2008 QB.

Everyone has a right to earn his living while under suspicion of any wrongdoing. All this indictment does is tell of hearsay… what someone is said to have said or witnessed.
Read ESPN story: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=sando_mike&id=2943438
Animal-rights activists are organizing protests outside NFL offices, demanding action and threatening boycotts. Their outrage is understandable. Vick bears some responsibility for even putting himself in position to be indicted.
And yet a civil society can’t let emotions interfere with due process. No matter how repulsive the charges, no matter how much we love our pets, no matter how bad the indictment makes Vick appear, it’s unfair to judge without weighing the evidence.
Several phone conversations with defense attorneys and legal scholars drove home a point easily lost amid the outrage: No one has seen all the evidence. An indictment is all we have, and it’s not enough.
“The prosecutor can get an automobile indicted,” Maryland-based defense attorney Jonathan L. Katz said. “The prosecutor puts in the witnesses that he wants and then at the end he says, ‘Look, here’s an indictment, please agree to it.’
“It just requires the grand jury members to find there is probable cause to believe that a crime occurred. Well, probable cause is not much more than a hunch.”
LET MICHAEL EARN HIS LIVING and have his day in court. Who are we to judge. And who is PETA to demand anything from anyone?

If I were indicted on Federal charges, I would not be allowed to work. I see no reason why Michael Vick should be allowed to work (to the extreme negative detriment to the Falcon organization and his fellow teammates…let’s just say it’s more than a tiny distraction, and it’s not a “Katrina” event that will bring a city and a team together) while he’s going through his “due process”. Michael Vick’s rights as a citizen (the right to due process, innocent until proven guilty, etc.) are not the same as Michael Vick’s rights as an employee. Some people can’t seem to differentiate between the two. I can’t quite figure out why.

As a Carolina Panthers fan, and despiser of Mike Vick, I’m not going to be an apologist for him. But… in trying to be objective about this thing, I have to say that the Falcons are handling this the right way. I agree that animal cruelty is horrible and if Vick is guilty, he should be punished, and punished severely. But as an organization it would be unfair for the Falcons to punish him until he’s tried in a court of law. If he’s innocent (and for the record, I don’t think he is) then they should give him the opportunity to prove that before punishing him. PETA should not be pushing the Falcons to do anything… not yet. No need to rush to judgement…. as citizens they would expect no less treatment and last time I checked, we’re all innocent until proven guilty and the Falcons should not move to punish him based on the court of public opinion, but should wait until he is tried by a court of law.

It is obvious that Michael Vick apologists will not be deterred by such things as logic, common sense or rational interpretation.
We all know that the vast majority of those who are standing up for Vick would not be doing so were it Keith Brooking in the middle of this controversy. Take that how you will, but it is the truth.
Conversely, the majority of those who are disgusted by these allegations and believe Vick should be distanced from the team would feel exactly the same way were it Keith Brooking in the middle of this investigation.
These people can not be reasoned with. They will fight to the death for Michael Vick, much as his dogs fought to the death in a blood-stained pit at a house owned by him.
I just hope that when Vick is not playing with the Falcons this year, you idiots won’t show up in your Vick jerseys just to boo Joey Harrington. But, we know you’ll stick by “your boy,” no matter what. If you’re going to do that, just sit at home or at Fox Sports Grill and watch the damn game on TV.

By the way, due process and innocent until proven guilty only apply to COURTS in the United States. These concepts do not apply to an employer.
If a banker, computer-programmer, trash man or fast-food worker is indicted on federal charges, especially as brutal as those we are discussing, would they be allowed to keep working at their jobs? Please. Come on.
Pete Rose was banished for a lifetime by baseball for betting on games. He was not convicted of any gambling offenses. Yet how many of those concerned with due process and innocent until proven guilty are trying to get Pete back into baseball?
Oh, yeah. I forgot.

Life goes on, But, Michael Vick should NOT with the ATL Falcons. Sure, we’ll take the blunt of jokes from the Bradshaws, Johnson’s, and Howie Long’s in TV land. That’s okay if Arthur does the right thing and rid himself of this self-destructing thug. However, if Arthur is so short sited and keeps this problem, then the entire fan base of the Falcons should join the protest. No one enjoys more watching and supporting the team as I do. However with Vick on the team until he is proving innocent is WRONG. Beat the rap (no pun intended)Vick and we will be glad, with open arms, to have you back. Broderick, The problem with making the argument about if this was Tom Brady, is that it wasn’t Tom Brady. See, I have a feeling Brady might be a little bit more intelligent than Vick. He knows right from wrong, he knows he is also under public scrutiny as a high profile athlete…and he is careful of the choices he makes. If the feds go on to your property to investigate it and find 50+ dead dogs, you have some explaining to do. IF this was Brady or Favre…. it would even be a BIGGER story, trust me.

And there we have it. The compassion and intelligence of the average sickvick (I prefer sicvick) supporter.

I smell a rat! Isn’t it funny that the DA in Surrey county opted not to file charges against Vick? Signals are being sent everywhere you look and they have all racial overtones. First the media and Feds made Surrey County look incompetent and inconsistent. Both the Sheriff and DA are Black. Then the Feds totally break all protocal and without warning assume the case and indict Vick. Poindexter even felt it was probably racist. So Poindexter knew he still had a way to get back at the Feds, by continuing his investigation. Once the Feds actually indicted Vick, Surry County said they would press charges also. Today Surry County stated they would not be charging Vick with anything. As if they’re saying that there is not enough evidence to prosecute.
People amuse me when the say it’s not about race. Believe me whenever you hear that, run, because that’s confirmation that it’s only about race.
They also amuse me when they say that the poor animals can’t make their own decisions. Well let me tell you, all of those dogs they confiscated from Vick, the state will be killing them. How about Barbaro, he was euthanized recently. Barbaro is the horse that won the Kentucky Derby and broke his leg. He was killed because of his participation in a blood sport. How about the guy that pays to go on an African safari just to kill a lion that was most likely bred and raised just to be shot. Oh an what about that trophy bass on your wall? Do you think that poor fish would prefer life? The bottom line is all these poor animals are dead and they all were killed in the name of sport!!
Vick you are my type of QB. You are a triple treat. You can run, pass, and run and pass. You are also very stupid and guilty by association. You have heard all of your life that you have to be twice a good as a white guy all of your life. You have also been told all your life that if you’re ever presumed quilty you are 20 times more quilty than the average white guy. Right now you are no different than that bass mounted on the wall of your distractors, except you killed yourself.

If Vick goes, Arthur, you will slap the African American community right in the face. He made a bad judgement call and should pay for it, but he does deserve the right to earn a living. Whites dont care for a Black man with money. He doesent have to mow your lawn, or wash your car.IF VICK LEAVES, LETS GO TITANS! PS. AFRICAN AMERICANS: BOYCOTT THE FALCONS 4EVER!

When people publicly lynch you never know the outcome. Genarlow in jail for having safe sex in highschool, cops randomly shoot an old lady and attempt to cover it up, White Atlantans castrating Vick without due process, and it can only escalate from here. I live in L.A. and I think Atlanta is headed for a riot.

For the record I am not a supporter of Michael Vick the quarterback. I have never had the desire to own a #7 jersey which is the top selling jersey in the NFL. I don’t believe he has developed as a top notch quarterback (ie Payton Manning, Brett, Brady) even he is paid that way. I felt this was his make or break season under Petrino. I however, I support the Falcons, and he is the guy under center and I always wish him well in every game. So I am not disappointed if he start the season or not.
I am disappointed in the public and press at large. No man should be denied his due process. His right to be assumed innocent until proven guilty. As a result of his status in our society, NFL star quarterback, million dollar contract, product pitch man and even some arrogance, he has a target on his back. If I were indicted for the same thing you would have never heard about it.
PETA, politicians, investigators, county officials, and news organizations have and agenda to benefit their own cause. They stir the pot of public opinion and create more controversy 24/7. Look at how many careers the OJ trial created. This has been compared to the Duke lacrosse team case, yes the FEDs brought this case, sounds credible…but it STILL HAS TO BE PROVEN IN A COURT OF LAW. If it is found to be true, on all counts, then and only then should Vick be penalized to the fullest extent of the law. I am a dog owner, and I consider my dog a member of my family. I would hate for my pet to be executed in the manner described, but I don’t believe a sentence of 6 years in jail is justified.
The act is inhumane, but it is also inhumane in my eyes for the Humane Society to put innocent dogs to sleep because they have Pit Bull / Chow in them. My current dog was saved from this Humane act, although I could not save all his litter mates from this humane act.
As you can see, anybody can be judge & jury, but that’s why we have courts of law…let it play out in court as should be and root for whoever is under center for Falcon GAMES!

I have defended Michael Vick for years..based on what happens on the field. He’s not too stupid to play QB and he can pass.
HOWEVER…
Any Black man knows that if you have a target on your back you walk the straight and narrow. Change your friends and change your ways. He had enough money for generations of Vicks.
This is a huge deal and it’s not about animal abuse. This is about gambling and organized crime. Dogfighting really came to the Feds attention because of “Donnie Brasco” the FBI agent who got inside of the Bonnano family. They were big guys in the world of dogfighting.
They’re not trying to get just Mike. It’s too low brow for the FBI. It has to be more too it. I don’t know for a fact but it just seems like it. He was stupid even if he says he didn’t know what was going on.
Pro football in this town is ruined for a long time, a long time. Just look at these bbs. We’ll never really talk football again.

T.Moore, who is often said to find racial overtones in every situation, says “Vick has got to go.” Al Sharpton, who has the same ‘methods, to his madness’, has sided with the anti-Vick, PETA people. I’m sure there are numerous others from the ‘black community’, that feel the same as they do. This doesn’t have to be about race. It does however, have to be about-right and wrong. Someone wise, once said,”by your deeds, you shall be known”. It is this pattern of bad deeds that has sunk MV7. The Ron Mexico incident, the flipping of the bird to fans, the water bottle, dissing Congress, the photo in the car with what appeared to be a joint, and on and on it has gone. He deserves a fair trial. Then, if convicted, he will deserve jail time. Meanwhile, he is too big of a distraction, to have around, while the team tries to get ready for the season. Peace

You may want to rethink you’re AL Sharpton comments. He said he’s against dogfighting, not the right for MV to do his job…while, still technically innocent. He’s been ranting on his radio show the last few days about this. He only sides with PETA on the cruelty of animals, not the right to play. And he’s stated he will not just stand on the sidelines and watch, if he isn’t allowed to play. Whatever that means

You people are NOT going to turn this hideous ANIMAL ABUSE AND MURDER case into your own little pity party, race issue ONCE AGAIN.
YOU ARE NOT THE VICTIM HERE. THE DOGS ARE THE VICTIMS.
As for the person who wrote “when one of ours goes down we all go for the ride”…well, I guess that takes care of Martin Luther King’s hope of people being judge for their CHARACTER (like I’m doing with Michael Vick) and not their SKIN COLOR!
Can any black people EVER see past the color of their OWN SKIN and take responsibility for their OWN actions?

Here is a scenario…What if your daughter’s teacher was accused of child molestation, but he wanted to keep teaching until his trial?
That is right! His butt would be suspended faster than a Vick incompletion and another 3 and out.

In Korea they eat dogs. How much more abusive could you get than that. More dogs are put to death in animal shelters in a day that Mike Vick would in 20 years. But once you get the Do Gooders all stirred up you’ve got a problem. Mike needs to go on Oprah carrying a lap dog and swear that he had nothing to do with it. It was all his cousins and he used to lay awake at night wondering what all that barking was about. Why don’t the Falcons hire him a PR firm instead of just letting him twist in the wind? When the news broke I wasn’t happy with Mike but when I heard that PETA and THE REVEREND Al Sharpton and Sheets Byrd wanted Vick’s head I did a 180. Mike Vick, You The Man!!

as one who at one point during his lifetime was wrongfully accused and later found to be innocent,i believe it to be totally irresponsible to villify vick before he has had a chance to have his day in court…that being said IF tom brady were were found guilty of these offenses i’d be the first one to buy him a bus ticket out of town.(to Atlanta if you’d have him)

The only people whose opinions should matter in this case are Vick’s teammates. No matter what the commissioner or the Falcons decide to do, there will be a large portion of Falcons fans (and NFL fans in general) who are unhappy with the result. But ultimately we only watch Vick for three hours on Sunday, and he’s out of our lives for the rest of the week. Vick’s teammates, on the other hand, have to practice with Vick, travel with Vick, and play with Vick, for better or worse. If they feel that Vick’s off-field distractions overshadow his contributions to the team, then Vick should either be suspended or given a leave of absence. If, on the other hand, his teammates feel that the media circus is secondary to Vick’s contributions on the field, then Vick should be allowed to practice and play until the legal situation is resolved. Roger Goodell and Arthur Blank are not going to make a majority of fans happy regardless of what they do. It’s important that at some point, the rest of the Falcons’ opinions are heard on this issue, since it affects them more than it affects anyone else other than Vick himself.

Of course Jimmy Williams had to follow suit and get busted himself. Can we finally now stop drafting from Va Tech????? Why do people say “let the losing begin” b/c Harrington will be the QB. We weren’t winning with Vick!!! Idiots.

First of all, It is funny how the County and State Government opt to leave Vick alone. I think it could be a number of things that going on here. I will start with the race card! He is a black man with lots of money and more to come. I bet that their are many fans who are not black dislike that idea! I know if that was Mr. Charlie on Jonesboro Rd having dog fights no one would care!! At least the US Govt. would not come in. Maybe someone from the Falcons camp wanted Vick gone and they had this set up! It was not smart of Vick to blend in like he was a poor man like myself! He with all his money and power could never fall under the radar! Pit Bulls are not the sweetest dogs to be around! Yes I agree Vick should not have been involved or affiliated in any dog fighting, but he a man just like any one else. He only fault is that he is black and has money because he play for the falcons! Vick, if you are reading this, mark my words. “You will be ok. So you may not be a falcon, but you will still be free of getting hurt with alot of money in the bank!” Dog Fighting does not make you a bad man. If the Vice-President, can get away with shooting his friend and the President can pardon Scooty Libby; than Vick should get some fair justice.

I believe in due process. If Mike Vick is found innocent of charges, he should play football in the NFL. However, the circus that follows Mike Vick must stop. The Atlanta Falcons cannot have this distraction and expect to compete in the NFL. Mike Vick has to step up and take a leave of absence until his case goes to trial for the good of the Atlanta Falcons, the NFL and himself. He is facing serious charges. He cannot study a playbook, study game film and prepare a defense. Be man Mike, sit this one out. You may save your endorsement deals, the Falcons, the NFL and yourself.

Well it looks like Vick wont be playing so im done with this sorry team. We wont win more than 5 games this year. I hope he is found innocent and ask’s for a trade. Then I would sue PETA and anyone else who made it look like I was guilty before there was even a trial.

I have always been a Falcons fan and will forever remain one. I grew up watching these guys, whether it was on tv or watching them practice at their training facilities when it was located in Suwanee. It never crossed my mind to ever be dissapointed in them, even though there have been defeats, bad seasons and injuries. Throughout all of that I have remained faithful to my Falcons. The thought on my mind has always been “well next season these guys will get it and they will deserve it when they do”. This faith stemmed and still stems from the team always consisting of wonderful athletes, but mostly from the fact that I have always considered the Falcons roster to be made up of guys with integrity who are all around great human beings. The Falcons always seemed to care about the city of Atlanta (Warrick Dunn is a prime example) and the fans that supported them. While an indictment is not a conviction, the evidence against Vick is entirely to damning for me to ignore. Vick might claim he was unware, but the key point is he should have been aware of what was going on at his property. This man had a city that loved him, but because of these recent events he has lost his integrity and made his team and city appear in a negative light. Let it be known that this girls faith in the Falcons is still there and will always be, but her faith and love for Vick is gone. You should be ashamed of yourself Vick for letting your teammates and your fans down that have supported you through thick and thin.

Can some of you idiots trying to pass off dogfighting as “not that bad” and comparing it to boxing please get a friggin clue?
You know what separates us from the animals? Choice. We have the ability to make choices in what we do everyday of our lives. Boxers choose to get in the sport of boxing, and not one has been killed after they lost a fight.
Some of you are just amazing. If Vick murdered someone in front of your eyes, you’d still defend this worthless bum. He’s a terrible QB and leader. If he’s found guilty, then he’s straight up scum. I feel sorry that Arthur Blank wasted $100+ million on a guy that’s simply not worth it.
