A little linebacker chatter

Guys, I have to admit, I love your passion and quest for constant updates and news and I’m sorry if that last blog didn’t deliver. Frankly, there isn’t much going on.

However … I’m going to give it another shot.

The Falcons should be close to signing at least two, if not three of their drafts picks this week. From what I’ve heard, they likely will be mid to later-round selections, which typically is the trend at this point of the offseason. Higher picks tend to get signed closer to training camp.

As for the players and coaches, most of them are taking a week or two off to recharge. Bobby Petrino is headed home to Montana for the first time in six years for a great reason — his parents are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.

One personnel development not to overlook: The recent signing of former Arizona linebacker Orlando Huff.

Though Huff was brought in to add depth at weakside linebacker, he also was signed to a one-year deal for experience. Though weakside starter Demorrio Williams is recovering ahead of schedule, there is no guarantee he is going to stay healthy. One hard shot or awkward fall and that surgically repaired, torn pectoral could be re-aggravated and Williams could be on the shelf again.

Though the Falcons really like rookie Stephen Nicholas at weakside linebacker, having a veteran like Huff, who’s started in this league, provides some assurance that the Falcons can field a player who might not freeze when the lights come on.

Another little nugget; there’s a buzz that the Falcons’ coaches really like undrafted middle linebacker Tony Taylor out of Georgia. His headiness and knowledge of the game has set him apart from other upstarts and if he can meet the physical demands of the NFL, he could be on the roster.

I think a lot of people are looking for news on perhaps the biggest battle in camp: J Will v Croc. Hear various news that J Will is struggling with transition so far, and the lack of news reported on it only adds to it. Crocker still has job by “default” to my knowledge. Steve, please enlighten.

What about Paul Oliver in the supplemental draft? I hear the falcons are working him soon. He is absolutely worth a 3rd rounder. Got to pick him up and try him at nickle or Houston at nickle.

Steve,

Hey, I appreciate the updates when you can get ‘em. This is the worst time of year for football fans. And football writers.

But I do want you and the staff at this rag to do one thing. Start monitoring these blogs better. Some of us are sick and tired of the Idiot Racist Redneck Faction of people who come on here and ruin the blogs by turning them into a race war.

Please, for the love of God, ban their IP addresses the minute they use hate speech to incite hate and anger in others.

Either that, or may I suggest a paid service ($50.00 for the year) which th vast majority of these morons couldn’t afford.

Thanks.

Thanks Steve. From all the lack of comment the coaches have regarding Jordan Beck, could it be that he is either headed to the PS or out the door? I guess that would be one of the Rich McKay’s busts.

How bad is Alge’s knee, really?

Do you think that any of the invitees to the last minicamp will get another invitation to training camp? How about 6’6” WR Charles Futrell? If he put on 20 pounds, could Charles be a bargain Dwayne Jarrett?

I heard that PJ Alexander is taking snaps as center on the 2nd team. Is this true and if so, at what position does Petrino have Doug Datish practicing?

By Ken Strickland

June 26, 2007 8:48 PM | Link to this

NASCARfan, well said, and well timed. There is one thing we must remember about FS CCrocker. Crocker’s problems last yr weren’t due to a lack of ability to play the position in a traditional DEF. After all, didn’t Mora and Friends think he played the position well enough to acquire him in a trade with Cleveland? Crocker just didn’t have the necessary skills to successfully play in a cover 2 scheme. It wasn’t his fault those clowns switched DEF’s after he got here.

Has anyone besides me noticed how Petrino and his staff are signing backups that are good enough to start? There will be some serious competition when training camp begins. I’m willing to bet we won’t fall apart, like the last 2yrs, when faced with injuries.

Hey Steve I appreciate your Falcons reports, and the fact that in this one you acknowledge some of our razzies from the last blog.

Mine (the ‘mailed-it-in’ comment) at least was written with a smile behind it, not mean intent.

I agree with the poster above (NascarFan) that it’s unfortunate that the ajc can not do a better job of monitoring these conversations and blocking those that abuse the priviledge of posting in a public forum with racism and hatred and obscenities.

Of course, we would expect a little more consistent, “inside Flowery Branch” type reporting…..can you handle it, or do we need to coax Winklejohn back?

Steve, you are going to get haters because they see YOU on ESPN from time to time. Just do your best and we can’t ask for anything more.

I think a lot of people in the press are overlooking the Falcons as a NFC power. I’ve always thought our O-line was to small to pass protect. I see Vick having a big year this year and returning to the playoffs provided he’s not charged with that dogs investigation. The Defense will be better without Hartwell in the middle. He sucked bad when he played. Plus Rossum will not be the #2 corner. The rooks will impress. JMO

If VICK Supporters could better read, write, articulate and use deductive reasoning skills, I believe the FALCONS would win more games.

Besides, Defense Wins Championships more than any single offensive player, anyway. Frankly, I find no one on the FALCONS more offensive than Vick. Keith Brooking is the HEART of that entire franchise. Dunn isn’t far behind.

One a side note, I cannot stand animal abusers.

Thanks Steve. That was really informative and I appreciate that you actually listened to your readers. I am sure that this is just as nerve racking for you as it is for the fans, the long wait where nothing is going on. I think that the AJC should consider allowing the rookies to have a blog or something on here, or some of the players. Just to kinda keep us abreast of what’s going on and help us pass time before the season or at least before training camp. If you do that with one player a day… in 30 days it will be training camp… in two months the beginning of the the season. Just something to think about. Thanks.

Of course there isn’t much going on for the ajc. If you were the Falcons, would you be calling the ajc for anything, the way they treat their home team? Competition makes everyone better, and the AJC definitely needs a little competition. Nobody checks facts or sources. They just rush to print. Kind of like a high school paper. Bigcalidog,

Economic racism? Over a few dollars a month? Is it racist when McDonalds sells Cheese burgers for 10 cents more than hamburgers at their restaurant? Is it racist when you can purchase a higher grade of oil at a higher price to put in your car? If you want a better service then you have to pay the premium. Is it racist that a BMW costs more than a Ford even though it is a higher quality car? We’re looking for a higher quality product, and I for one am willing to pay a premium to get rid of the gross ignorance and find out who the real fans and supporters are. I just put the mid grade gasoline in my car and paid an extra 10 cents a gallon. Racist?

I agree with Nascar fan… When AJC posts articles that are potentially controversial in regards to people choosing to racially bash one another, it is like throwing chum in a pool full of sharks or meat to piranhas. Please for the sake of prosperity in the Georgia Dome (because lord knows we never want an incident like the one that happened in Argentina at the Soccer tournament) be the catalyst that puts an end to the hate speech posted on here. Its hurtful, inflammatory, and people that feel wronged will want to respond; and, although it is not right they usually respond with hate. When we are given info about football we talk about football. For the most part this whole blog has been pretty tame. Please, either block the racists, or don’t add blog links to those issues. I think the former choice is the more amicable, let those that would rather disguise their hate by posing as fans interested in football news find their own forums for such nonsense.

Good job, Steve. It’s so good to get some positive news about the team. It would be a nice story if Tony Taylor could catch on. All the pundits I’ve heard give the Falcons a chance to win eight games, max. Actually, I wouldn’t be all that upset with an eight and eight season. If we can get the non-football distractions taken care of, we might even sneak into the playoffs. I know, drinking the Kool-Aid again…hey, I’m a fan! That means I don’t have to think rationally.

Eternal Optimist,

A paying subscription to this blog will limit it to people who are serious enough to pay money in order to discuss Falcons football. We won’t get all of the transients that roam in from other cities. We won’t get the children that post on this board. Most people won’t pay money just to say “Ron Mexico sucks”, because that’s the only line they can say. A paying subscription would add quality to this board, and eliminate a large percentage of ignorance and foolishness. It would eliminate people posting under different names, because you would have to log in. Bottom line, it keeps out the riff raff on both sides, and that is worth an untold amount of money for those of us that want to discuss football instead of who can read, write, talk, NASCAR, THUG, whatever.

Freedom of speech only goes so far. You can’t yell “bomb” in an airport. You can’t slander and defame other people either.

They AJC already tried that, Scooter.

Just as increasingly true for the AJC ‘physical paper,’ no one was willing to pay for this nonsense. The ‘privilege’ of accessing the writing quality of those on the AJC payroll was NOT worth the premium, either, to say nothing of reduced advertising exposure.

After reading your post, Just the facts, I can see why you would not want any of us “UNeducated” FALCONS Season Ticket Holders to criticize you for your apparent INability to write in complete sentences or correctly use a comma.

FYI: This particular FALCONS blog is designated for the topic of “linebacking,” NOT your own little soapbox for your socio-political agenda and namecalling.

Don’t expect if from the high school paper though. You’re right about one thing, the quality probably won’t be worth paying for. Didn’t mean to hurt your feelings Terrell. You’re obviously a fan of racist and ignorant blogs. Why don’t you head over to the Socio-political agenda and name calling section of the AJC so that you can discuss things of that nature.

A lot of the so all sports writers are like the weather man they get it wrong 50% of the time. The defense will look a lot better and the offense has a coach and a game plan this year. I don’t agree that this should be a pay blog. Its good to have free speech and an open forum with constructive discussion. What this site should not be used for is hidden agenda’s and venomous remarks that do nothing more than incite a riot. I’m so disappointed that the Falcons Vent posted some of the comments they posted today, because it only added fuel to the fire. If we are smart enough to recognize what comments are good discussion and which ones are open hatred, or latent hatred then why can’t the AJC. Do you think if people began to protest the AJC’s aiding and abetting in turning Atlanta into a bubbling cauldron of hate, that the AJC would give that tremendous coverage? The competent and virtuous shouldn’t have to pay for the wrongs of the ignorant and incredulous, there is a way that people can be enlightened without having to pay to participate. Put the burden on the AJC to block the hate, so that true falcon’s football fans can participate in peace.

This is an outstanding blog! I get really excited talking about our linebackers. I predict we will go 16 - 0 and win the Super Bowl because of our linebackers.

I have written a check for $50.00 so that I may participate in a blog where everyone is nice and understands the importance of linebackers.

I think some very good people comment on the AJC sports page, but equally there have been some bad posts. I’m just happy that we’re back to reporting on sports.

I’d like to hear more about two areas of the Falcon’s team that is important to me. The first is the offensive line. How effective are they going to be in the first year of Bobby Petrino’s reign. Do they have the big bodies that Petrino wanted. I’m glad that cut blocking scheme is out.

The other is the defensive backs. How fast are they? What type of coverage are they going to use.

Some other note worthy concerns…

Most people comment about Michael Vick being an inacurate passer. I don’t think that is his biggest weakness. I think the dropped balls are the weakness of the receivers. Here’s hoping they get better this year. I think they will, especially with Horn there. After last year, I was beginning to think we were jinxed.

Michael Vick’s biggest weakness is his height. How are the Coaches approaching this. Is the deep drop back something that helps him? Does anyone have any answers for me?

While everything is slower and the Falcons are off for a couple of days, Steve Wyche and others can use this time for analysis. Who is on the roster? Are there any weaknesses? Who will make a special contribution this year.

Good job Steve, real FALCON FANS just need to hear a little something other than VICK,VICK,VICK. I have beena fan a long time from Bartkowski to Chandler to Vick and I’m here to tell you we can win without Vick and sell out the dome without Vick. I sure the rest of the TEAM appreciates knwoing we care about them just as much.

Coach Petrino, relax and enjoy your parents 50th, my family just celebrated out parnets 50th with family from all over the US and I gotta tell you it was something special considering how marriages don’t last anymore and society has become so secular that after out parents generation 50 year marriages will be a thing of the past.

I just wish I could go to Montana you, have a great time and tell your parnets Atlanta wishes them 50 more years!!

I’m happy that big Grady is back. He’s a run stopper, and he has a motor with that big body.

I’m also happy with seeing the Falcons trying to shore up the linebacking corps.

Oh, and the biggest thing I like is the quiet. It seems like there’s some control in the camp. I like that.

I’m hearing Vick and the receivers are working overtime getting their timing together. Oh, and I’ve heard absolutely nothing about the RBs.

Yawn…

Ah, preseason! When hope reigns until September!

What’s up with the name calling NASCARfan? I’m a Vick fan, but I agreed with you that something should be done about the racism. Continue to be part of the solution rather than add fuel to it. You are an adult and so I’m not telling you what to do or judging you, but the low-life statement isn’t the right way to go about trying to get what you are asking for and it makes people want to lash out in response. Lets not forget that we are all pulling for one thing when all is said and done,We ALL Want the Falcons to win the SUPER BOWL.

I would like to hear about the RB’s too. Did get another RB in the draft? i forget. And i personally think that Jerious is awesome and is it my understanding petrino wants to use him as a versatile guy? Kinda like Reggie Bush? Norwood seems very athletic and i would like to see what he could do in that regard.

I dont’ think that the Vick lovers are the ones saying “you can take a thug out of the hood, but you can’t take the hood out of the thug” or “That’s what happens when you give THOSE people money” or things of that nature. Ignorance is on both sides of the coin.

Breaking News!!!! “No new updates on the Michael Vick dog fighting case” Stay tuned for more… .Way to go AJC. Top shelf reporting. When will the toilet flush on this story and the AJC is left with egg on their face… .again?

Ummm… I haven’t called anyone names specifically, not on this blog.

I went back through the last few posts, and it’s one of those ignorant bloggers who like to ruin it for the rest of us that usurped my name and said those things. I definately don’t think we’ll go 16-0. Please, everyone, if you see my name attatched to a post and the person who posts says ignorant things, or crazy things, or things that lack any kind of perspective, know it’s not me. The person who does these things is a deginerate with way too much time on his hands, so he trolls the blogs of the AJC trying to ruin what should be clean, lively debate with absolute ignorance. Yeah, I know, I too wonder what kind of loser takes pride or finds humor in making other people miserable or in ruining everyone else’s fun. His mother must not have breast-fed him.

AJC, YOU HAVE THE POWER TO TAKE CARE OF THE TROLLS ON THESE BLOGS!!! YOU HAVE THE POWER TO BAN SPECIFIC IP ADDRESSES!!! DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE TROLLING PROBLEM ON YOUR DAMN BLOGS, AJC!!!

Consider this. Last season we went 7-9 despite all of our injuries and other problems.

(1)Petrino and his staff will make certain our short yardage, redzone, and 3rd down OFF will be better than last yr. It should be at, or above, the league average. Having a bigger stronger OL, FB, and more imaginative play calling will make the difference.

(2)Having a balanced run/pass OFF, using RB’s as receivers, using multiple WR sets in passing situations, having better route selections, and much better pass blocking are all upgrades over the Mora/Knapp philosophy. The dropped passes that plagued the team last yr will not be tolerated by this coaching staff.

(3)The DEF will be much better overall due to an improved pass rush, being more agressive, blitzing more, having better secondary & LB play, better DL play, a better DEF scheme, AND MUCH MUCH BETTER COACHING.

(4)Because of last yrs record, we will have an easier schedule. Therefore, how can the Falcons not have a better won/loss record with these improvements. Despite all of the negative crap to the contrary, neither MVick or the coaching staff will be a liability.

Ken Strickland-Great post! It’s nice to see that some of us are excited about the upcoming Falcons season. Just to add to what Ken has said that would contribute to a successful (winning record) season would be that the Grady Jackson suit is settled. I was slightly sweating bullets that the Falcons D-line would crumble without the presence of Grady-especially with the injury to Rob Coleman. As a matter of fact what is the prognosis of Coleman. Steve Wyche can you give us an update on his condition?

By Ken Strickland

June 28, 2007 9:51 AM | Link to this

NCAT96, the Coleman injury just might be a blessing in disguise. The Falcons are paying Coleman a lot of money to anchor our interior DL. Yet, he has a history of sustaining severe injuries that have been the result of bad judgement issues(The misterious car crash incident). If Babineaux and/or TJackson can show consistency, and have an impact, RColeman might not make it back into the starting lineup. He and his large FA salary might be traded. We had a simular issue with another DT that we got through FA from the Colts, I can’t remember his name. He was eventually traded to Denver.

For those who feel compelled to make negative comments and focus on MVicks passing skills and low completion % and QB rating, consider this.

(1)The Falcons will no longer be the NFL team with the least # of passing attempts.

(2)The Falcon passing OFF will drastically increase the # of high percentage passes it throws(acreens and swing passes to RB’s, quick outs and slants). All of this will increase our QB’s individual and overall passing % and QB rating.

(3)The OFF will drastically reduce the number of sacks, which will increase the number of passing attempts and completions.

(4)Our WR’s will be required to run better routes, and make more consistent catches. We won’t have the same problems we had last yr with our WR. Last yr we had no depth. When our primary WR got butterfingers, (primarily RWhite & ALelie), we had no solution on the bench. That won’t be the case this yr, I guarantee.

(5)Unlike the past 3yrs, Petrino and his staff will spend a lot of practice time on pass protection, running proper routes, making the proper reads and throws, and coordinating the overall passing attack.

(5)Petrino will personally call all plays, which will eliminate the predictability and conversative approach of the past 3yrs.

(6)DEF’s will no longer be able to stack 7-8 in the box to either stop the run or rush the passer. With us using multiple WR sets, LB’s and safeties will have to play the pass as well as the run(unlike the past 3yrs). Because of the multiple WR sets, and using our RB’s as REC’s, teams will be forced to cover more of the field, which means they will have to play more Zone DEF. The more DEF players committed to pass DEF, the fewer that can rush the passer, which helps in pass protection.

When all is said and done, MVick will have a higher QB/passer rating and completion %. That has been a person goal established by Petrino, and he is going to put his QB in a position to at least come close to achieving those goals.

Ken Strickland i see this blog has not changed much.As for the falcons I have some questions for you and the real falcons fans?

Will rossum get cut?

Will we sign a veteran big back?

Who will make the roster on the d-line?

Which tight ends will make the squad?

Would u be dissapointed if chris houston is not the starter dayone?

From the mini camps what is your impression of Bobby Petrino and how he runs his team?

If Gandy and Forney are ineffective do you feel comfortable with blaylock at LT and Fonoti at RG.

These are just a few questions that I think of about the falcons.Surely you don’t have to answer them all or any but it would be cool if you chose one or two. There are still real falcons fans.Go Falcons!!!!!!!!!

Strickland, good posts, man. I can’t argue with any of that, because you seem to believe exactly what I believe: the lack of Michael Vick’s development falls right at the feet of Greg Knapp (and at Arthur Blank’s feet for firing Dan Reeves) and his total lack of imagination and innovation as an offensive coordinator. I mean, the guy wouldn’t even let the QB change the play from a run to a pass if 8 men stacked the box, or from a pass to a run, if the defense was bringing the house on a blitz (behind that crappy smurf line, that’s an automatic sack). Glad to see you step away from running the propane business to give us some of your time. Say hello to Hank for me.

j-rock, I think Rossum gets cut unless he is super impressive during camp. If we do sign a veteran big back, it’ll be during camp, and it’ll be Corey Dillon (if a team in need of an RB like Green bay doesnt’ sign him first). I think until Coleman comes back and the Babineux situation is resolved, EVERYONE makes the D-line. I think the Bug they signed get dumped, and I think Milner might get dumped if he doesn’t show he can consistantly catch the ball. In this offense, how many tightends do you need? 3? Then maybe Milner is kept. I would personally be disapointed if Houston isn’t the starter, but I know nothing about Lewis Sanders, so maybe he’ll be really good, and not another Jason Webster. I think Blaylock will be the starting LG and Fonoti will be the guy rotating in and out at the guard position and on the goal line.

But this is just one man’s thoughts.

Good Blog overall, less hate this time I hope we could continue to do this, but I hope Steve Wyche won’t provoke it at the same time.

The team will do great this year I have a feeling do to no one will know our system until mid season but that will be to late, I hope Vick does play the entire year because with him we have a great chance at winning the SB trust me……..I know Chicago Bears wished they had Vick in the super bowl and not their current heart breaker.

NASCARfan, thanks for the props. J-ROCK, to answer your questions.

(1)Not unless someone steps up and shows the versatility he brings to the table. A probowl quality kick & punt returner, plus an effective nickle back.

(2)I think Petrino will try to find a younger, cheaper big back if he decides to sign one. He would likely want someone that could also contribute on special teams. Besides, why pay more to sign a vet just for short yardage situations.

(3)Deciding who will make the DL is impossible to judge at this point. I will guarantee you Petrino will audition several DL cut be other teams during training camp. Right now, I can only say that JBabineaux(if he gets out of trouble)GJackson, and possibly DShropshire and/or TJackson. RColeman coming back somewhere around midseason will be like a new addition.

(4)ACrumpler and Fells are locks. Blakely is on the hot seat. With Petrino’s preference for multiple WR sets, he is going to keep more of them on the roster. That means we will not likely keep more than 2 TE’s.

(5)Unlike Mora/Knapp/Donatell, Petrino is going to put ONLY HIS BEST PLAYERS ON THE FIELD. That’s why he is signing young, quality vets with starter experience, not just filler, like Mora and friends chose to do. If Houston is beat out by the competition, it means a stronger player is starting, and that’s better for us. Besides, if there’s an effective pass rush, the overall quality of the secondary isn’t as big of an issue, is it.

(6)Unlike Mora and friends, Petrino has HC experience. Unlike Mora and friends, Petrino has an establish OFF/DEF system in place that has proven successful. Mora and Knapp tried to take Knapps misguided version of the 49’ers WC OFF(minus the high completion rate swing passes to the RB’s, screens, and short quick out and slant passes)the Bronco’s version of the Zone blocking stretch OFF, and marry the 2 to MVick. Only one aspect of the entire OFF ever worked, rushing, and it ultimately wasn’t enough.

(7)Gandy has been a successful power blocking OT his entire career. The amazing thing about him was his ability to successfully adjust, at his age, to the zone blocking scheme. I believe that blocking experience will make him a better overall blocker under Petrino’s power scheme. Weiner was very successful power blocking in Seattle and under Dan Reeves. Pass blocking is his strength. Blalock isn’t going to be playing OT in the pros. He is the starting LG unless he falls flat on his face, which isn’t likely. Fonoti has had too many physical issues to be counted on to start ahead of our LG of the future. The OT that will eventually replace Gandy will likely be Ojinnaka, and Omiyale will like be RG Forney’s replacement.

In 04, Mora and friends 1st yr, we reached the Divisional playoffs using the flawed, gimmick laden OFF of Mora/Knapp. With better preparation, coaching, balance, talent and a better implimented and executed OFF/DEF plan, why can’t we duplicate those results?

Great stuff guys! This is the type of stuff that I’m looking for.

For those that don’t know, I read the sports page every day. I comb through the comments for good information. I enjoy being prepared for the season.

I enjoy knowing my team’s weaknesses and I enjoy relying on my team’s strenghs.

I would also like to see Atlanta develope into a great sports city. It shouldn’t matter if the Bulldogs are great, they don’t play on Sundays.

I look forward to a great season…GO FALCONS!!!!

The biggest challenge I’m looking forward to will be Vick vs. the Feds. I’m sure that they will throw his dog fighting butt in jail and hopefully throw away the key. Bring in a REAL QB like we’re used to. If they can clean up Mid-town, they can clean up the QB position here in Atlanta with a nice clean cut All American Guy….not some THUG that is only used to sandlot football.

“IF THEY CAN CLEAN UP MID-TOWN, THEY CAN CLEAN UP THE QB POSITION HERE IN ATLANTA WITH A NICE CLEAN CUT ALL AMERICAN GUY….NOT SOME THUG THAT IS USED TO SANDLOT FOOTBALL”. I guess we all know what that means, huh.

Let’s see the results when we compare MVick’s team accomplishments, as a 4yr starter, to the so called “CLEAN CUT ALL-AMERICAN GUYS/QB’s” that’s preceded him. (1)MVick has won more postseason games than any QB in Falcons history.

(2)MVick has won more game total than any QB in Falcons history.

(3)MVick is the only QB in Falcons history that has ever had consecutive none losing seasons.

(4)MVick is the only Falcons QB that has played before a capacity crowd every gm of his career.

(5)MVick is the only Falcons QB that has led his team to 2postseason appearances in 4yrs as a starter.

(6)MVick is only the 3rd Falcons QB to led the team to the divisional playoffs.

(7)Vick has had only one losing season in his 4yrs as a starter. No other Falcon QB can match that record.

Now, that’s not bad for a QB so many of you claim can’t read DEF’s, see over the OL, or pass, throws too hard, can only run, isn’t a real QB, is a thug, criminal, dog killer, and all of the other self-serving biased crap. I’ll take what Michael Vick has done for the Falcons any day over what has been accomplished by the NICE CLEAN CUT ALL-AMERICAN GUYS of the past. The bottom line, WINS, WINS, and more WINS take priority over passer efficiency, accuracy, or QB and passer ratings.

I’M CERTAIN MOST OF YOU HATERS WOULD APPRECIATE AND EMBRACE MVICK’S ACCOMPLISHMENTS IF IT HAD BEEN ACHIEVED BY ONE OF THE “CLEAN CUT ALL-AMERICAN GUYS” OF THE PAST.

However, how many of them ever played QB for the Atlanta Falcons. After all, that was the topic of dicussion. It’s really revealing that you chose to single me out for using the phrase “CLEAN CUT ALL-AMERICAN GUYS, while conveniently ignoring the fact it was 1st mentioned by this character calling himself “THE PURE SOUTH”. IF… MV isn’t found guilty in the dog fighting debacle and/or suspended for a good bit of the season and if he can grasp the new Petrino offensive scheme and get a little more accurate with his passes and be somewhat effective with his audibles and his receivers can get open and drop fewer passes and Horn & Abraham can stay healthy and Coleman & Boley recover completely and quickly from their unfortunate injuries and Alge’s knee has healed and he’s back to form and Milloy & Brooking & Dunn haven’t lost a step and D Hall plays almost as great as he talks and Blaylock, Anderson and Robinson can really come through in their first years and our O-line is big enough to be effective with their new blocking scheme and… then maybe…maybe we’ll go 8-8.

That’s a lot of hopin’.
