Players start venting
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Though Falcons players said they are focused on finishing out the season at Philadelphia with a win, they also spent Wednesday citing an abundance of reasons, none good, as to why they sit at 7-8 and on the verge of missing the playoffs for a second straight year.
Quarterback Michael Vick did not back off remarks he made after Sunday’s loss to Carolina that there is too much talent on the team to be in this position. Cornerback DeAngelo Hall said some players have not been accountable enough and they have settled for being good or average instead of working harder to be great.
Tight end Alge Crumpler said he wished the offense would be consistent at something, anything.” Running back Warrick Dunn said the Falcons have gotten away from their identity of a running team.
Nobody placed direct blame on the embattled coaching staff, but there wasn’t a lot of drum-banging support either.
Throughout the season, Falcons players tend to stay away from expressing these opinions. But with the season possibly being one game from being over, some guys clearly had some things they wanted to get off their chests.

We need a coach that will give this team an personality. The Falcons play soft and they shy away from the BIG PLAY. Our offensive line is way below par and seem to get puched around. Its time to get back to smash mouth football and suffocating defense. Until then we will be an average football tem.

Wow, Alge saying he doesn’t believe in the offense says something, especially since he is usually the 1st read on most passing plays.
The team has me down becuase I really don’t want to see another coach come in as it will take time and be another system for Vick and Co. to learn. That causes more a chance for another flame out.
Who are the top names to take the job? The best one (Lovie Smith) coaches the Bears.
Lastly, I’d like to hear thoughts on how Blank is viewed by players and coaches, even if not on record. I think the owner can be around too much and undermine the coach. That is not something good coaches want to deal with. Most good coaches are power hungry types who want to be the first name assocaited with the team. Blank has to know that, right?

Not much to say here….The Eagles will put a mercy killing end to our season so, the only question left to answer is, will Blank do what needs to be done and have the guts to start over with the coaching staff jokes and decide which players also can take a hike?

How about let’s just keeping our mouths shut because after an abysmal season, everything the coaches and players say is just self-serving horse hockey! You guys are ALL professionals and should have put forth a yeoman effort because you are professional and because of pride. However, now, you attempt to justify mediocrity with you self-serving remarks. Try it on somebody else—- to me it’s just horse hockey!

Algae Crumpler should shut his mouth about the wishing the Falcons were more consistent since he has dropped as many passes as any of the other wide receivers on the team. It was a joke he was elected to the Pro Bowl. Crumpler crumbled many times in his “Crumple Zone” has he dropped an enless number of passes. Crumpler should be cut from the team.

mike vick is saying a bunch of unneccessary crap… he had just as much fault as the coaching staff. let’s all remember this whole franchise/organization is built around a single player. mike vick. last year the birds fired the qb’s coach because of the perceived slow development of vick. they bring in qb guru musgrave but his development has been just lethargic. at what point does mike vick just come out and say it’s my fault. when does he show traits of a mature leader and take the responsibility of a loss or a bad performance on his back, to alleviate the pressure off the rest of the team and his teammates? instead of focusing on how he was going to win the last several games, he’s been b*tching and complaining about things since mid season. a real leader, a real “team” player works his way through his current system, tries to find a way to succeed in the current system and then look for alternatives or solutions in the offseason. i didn’t hear all his whining when the falcons were 5-2.
i was at the falcons game on sunday and in no way am i saying the losses are directly mike vick’s fault. he hasn’t had anyone to throw to. he has no offensive line. his offensive coordinator is clueless. but still throwing people under the bus not accepting responsiblity is a pure sign of someone who isn’t a winner. and i’m sick of not only him but the rest of those overrated, overpaid players at flowery branch. oh yes those coaches who get all the heat don’t get a free pass either. they all sucked and should be canned as well.

All of the players seem to concede that they could have done more.
The coaches should be accountable, too. Thus, I have no problem with the players saying the things they have said…. If the coaches suck, the coaches suck.

NO Worries…Jim Mora should and will be fired. But the Major problem is Rich McKay. Let look at the draft picks..Jimmy Williams, Roddy White(you do not waste a first round pick on a rcvr from UAB), Michael Jenkins, The first round pick on Ashley Lelie. Warrick Dunn he brought over is not an every down back. One of the reasons we struggle in the red zone is Dunn’s inability to get the tough yards or run out the clock with the lead.

Steve, I have to say that your on the spot reporting of this team is very telling and season ticket holders, like myself, don’t have to read to far between the lines to see that Mora has shown his true colors in the last couple of weeks. Your reporting on this team this year has had to be exhausting but many of us out here admire your commitment to the fans.
I was one of those fans that 3 weeks ago felt that we could get through the season, change the offensive coaching staff. Yes, all of them. Mora could then go forward into next season as the head coach. I now feel that Mora has shown that he is in WAY over his head.
Here is my proposal:
A trade offer to The University of Washington.
I’ll trade you one head coach, three first round wide receivers, and I’ll even throw in a Yoda type offensive line coach, if you can find out where he actually is.
For: Anyone coach or player that actually wants to be in Atlanta and play or coach with passion and an actually hatred for losing.
Never mind, I forgot that you already had a coach and players who play with passion and fight.
Sorry Jim, I tried!!!

Hi, My name is Bill and I am a Falcoholic! Admitting my problem is step 1 of my 12 step recovery process. I have wasted the last 40 years of Sundays and will no longer put up with this pathetic organization. Let me list just a few irratations this team has provided for me. *Outdoor venue to the “Dome experience” when our weather is the best in the country this time of year. *A team with no heart *Leeman Bennett “Coach of the Year” 3 of his 5 years here. He gets the axe. *Absolutely horrible personnel decisions for 40 years. *$10.00 season tickets to fill the Dome and sellout for Homegame TV = Hip Hop experience.
Pros/ Cons on “Dome Vs. Home experience *Parking: $100.00(yes I have paid that much)sick isn’t it/ Car is in the Garage= free. *Food: Dome= horrible Home= excellent *Beer: Dome= $7.50 per 24 oz. Home= $1.40 per 24 oz. *Toilet: Dome= Nasty Home= Spotless Traffic: Dome= Gridlock Home= None *TV timeouts: Dome= Ear splitting Rap Home= Mute button
Arthur, Your game day experince pretty much stinks in my opinion, and most long standing season ticket holders think the same. So keep stickin’ it to us with your price increases ($39.00 to $89.00 in 4 years) and you will be able to accomodate those 30,000 people on the waiting list. Bet that list will vanish with the pathetic product you are giving us and I will be able spend some time with my family on Home Sundays. P.S. My counselor made me send this as part of my recovery. Wish me well in this effort!

“… some guys clearly had some things they wanted to get off their chests …”
If I read between the lines, Steve, there were some more ‘profound’ remarks made off-the-record. I’m guessing that they didn’t want to say, “We’re just not executing …”.
Like any business or team effort, it may be that a given Falcon player doesn’t have a good solution, but he can see some things that definitely are not working.
Interesting comment about the support for the coaches. the silence is deafening.

If Arthur Blank is as smart as we think he is and he can’t be an idiot to have made HD what it is today,he will realize HIS MISTAKE and beg Coach Reeves to come back and finish what he started. Making Mike into the most explosive player in the NFL “which is what he was” under COACH REEVES as well as taking this team to the Super Bowl and winning it which by the way he would have won with the same team Mora lost to Philly with in the NFC Championship game 2 years ago.
Reeves desrevs it and most of all WE THE FANS DESERVE IT.
If not, 2 other suggestions would be, George O’Leary and Ralph Fridgen or and this would be my choice, June Jones coach, offensive geniuos and Jerry Glanville Def coordinator.
You think the players like Mora, they would kill for Glanville. Hell, Glanville would have kicked T.O.’s a* himself the other night if no one else was going to.
June Jones was designing offenses like Fridgen, the dude at Notre Dame, and all the other so called genius’ 20 years ago!
If you don’t believe me ask Steve Bartkowski, he said 25 years ago that June Jones would be a head coach some day and out up huge offensive numbers, and that the NFL jus wasn”t ready for June Jones back then.
And Glanville would provide what this team and city needs the most, a kiss my A attitude and dearly needed set of nads!!!

Mike finally got the real team to speak up. I think that they like Mora but not Knapp and Donatell. THEY ALL SHOULD BE FIRED!!!! The falcons should go to a smash mouth first then a touch of speed type of offense. The players are begging for a proven, not to old coaching staff. Things would be so different if Hartwell had stayed on the sideline and Knapp used our strongest back to run the ball on 3rd and 1 or 4th and 1. I can’t believe that we couldn’t find a good young lineman before we signed 35 years old Gandy.

That’s rich, coming from MeAngelo, whose Nancy-boy tackling technique could use a LOT of work. He spends a lot of time circling the ball carrier until help arrives, then piling on, and finally styling for the fans as if he’s bad.

To: BLANK…Make it very clear to the coaches and players what you will tolerate.
To: MORA…You are the teams HEAD COACH, not just one of the coaches. Act like it. Demand quality effort or fire those inept coaches you have.
To: OL, DL, DB, WR, RB coaches. Resign because you are not pro coach material.

I’m so tired of people throwing li’l Jimmy Jr. under the bus. He’s not the one out there overthrowing WRs who drop the ball because the offensive line can’t get into any type of rhythm seating on the sideline watching the defense up-chuck yards to the other team.
What qualified coach would want to come into the type of situation that exist in Atlanta? Can anyone name one winning coach that has shown any indication that they want to the coach this team?
I think that Jimmy should stay. He must be doing something right. His team hasn’t imploded like the Giants or has his players spent more time having mugshot taken than having pictures taken for Upper Deck trading cards like the Bengals.
The only persons that absolutely needs to butt out are Arty Blank, and the AJC word-writers.
Blank is a slicked-up, snakeoil, saleman that has sold the fans a bucket full of pig feces, and called it cavier. And the AJC word-writers having swallowed the bitter pill, must play along and act like this team really has above average talent and would have won the Super Bowl if they only had a coach.
LOL, the Fowlcons have always been lousy to mediocre and they always will be. They are an average team at best, so don’t go and blame it on the coachs.
No one has ever been able to coach this team, EVER!!
Go Falcons, and take the Hawks with you!

The players aren’t whining. They are being interviewed, just like the coaches. They weren’t saying these things when we were 5-2 because those questions weren’t being asked. The media navigates which way the interview goes. The players just react and speak how they feel. I’m sure there is no one on the team besides Meangelo Hall who feels that they have had a great season, but why even draft a shut down corner if you’re going to run this soft zone sh*t all of the time? The scheme is all wrong in Atlanta. Let’s get a real coaching staff that isn’t named Mora or Reeves. Our defense is ranked lower than our offense yet, everyone wants to blame our QB. Vick has plenty of work to do, but not as much as that atrocious defense of ours. This coaching staff is awful at adjustments. A team doesn’t even line up a QB and you can’t tell that they’re going to run? Mora and Co. should have been fired at halftime of that game. Rich McKay, which overpriced and underperforming free agent are you going to bring us next year? Arthur Blank, how high can we expect ticket prices to be next year? Jim Mora, Playoffs?

I don’t know why everybody is so down on the Falcons. I still think the Falcons will win the Superbowl this year. I know that the Falcons have the slimmest of chances to make the playoffs, but say for instance that if each and every star in heavens and the universe is in perfect alignment and the Falcons manage to squeak into the playoffs, then those same Falcons that everybody is bashing may possibly run the playoff table, get into the superbowl and destroy their opponent in the BIG GAME 70-3. So let’s not jump the gun and count the Falcons out just yet. Like Yogi Berra once said, “IT AINT OVER UNTIL ITS OVER”!

Bitter Randy? Without hope? The facts are that this team has playoff talent, is very inconsistent and in need of a shakeup of both players and coaches. Mora is loyal to buddies who aren’t getting the job done. He will not hold them accountable. The team needs a major upgrade in the OL and various spots on defense. Do this and there will be no losses to Cleveland, Detroit and the Panthers. That’s 10 wins and the playoffs.

No one could coach this team to a better record than Jimboy Jr. has, and there isn’t a winning coach out there that would want to step into the fecal matter that Blank has spread around about how this mediocre team has Super Bowl quality personel.
I think that it’s amazing that the Falcons have won as many games as they have over the last three years.
The players seem to want to play for Mora, and if what I’ve read in the paper is the worst they have to say about the coaches then he has done better than Tom Coughlin has. The Giants’ players are whinning and backstabbing and IMPLODING, even if they have the upper hand in the wildcard race.

Dan Reeves….come back and save this team! resign Kerney, and get a power back to complement either Dunn or Norwood. (wheres jamal anderson when we need him!) Make vick work on his short passing accuracy!!! He should be throwing the ball everyday trying to get better…not riding around on his rims acting like a badass. IM glad vick didnt make the probowl…he didnt deserve it last year either!! Crumpler is a great tight end and whoever said we should dump him is a moron! Finneran will be back next year so that will help out our short passing game and give crumpler some relief. Bring in a offensive cordinator that will try new stuff anf a defensive cordinator that dosent belive in this soft zone BS!!! As per a previous comment - If a coaching change is made at Flowery Branch, Arthur Blank should at least consider Chan Gailey of GA Tech on the short list of candidates to take the helm. Chan brings a pedigree as an offensive coach and the team needs a jump start on that side of the ball. It might be a good fit.

Amen. You absolutely hit the nail on the head. If this team could play as good as they talk we wouldn’t have any problems. The Falcons have a sort of gag order on the offensive lineman, they tell them not to talk. I wish they could do that with a few others, especially Vick and D. Hall. I’ve been a diehard Falcon fan since they came into the league, but it sure is hard now, not because of the records, because of the attitudes and talk coming from more and more players they bring here.

The Falcons are quite possibly the worst team ever! First and foremost, Mike Vick is “NOT” a leader. Jim Mora is “NOT” a leader. Arthur Blank needs to be a leader and can the coaching staff and trade Vick while he has some value left. Play Shaub and use Shockley as a back-up. All Vick and Mora do is make excuses..excuses..excuses. Neither can admit they are in over their heads. Both should wear a ski-mask on payday since they are stealing King Arthur blind. Philly will kick the crap out of the Foulcons. King Arthur will fire coaches but he won’t touch Vick. He is afraid the “thug nation” will rise up in revolt and accuse him of racism..which is a load of bullcrap. Be a man Blank..make the tough decision and send Ron Mexico packing. Otherwise this team is toast for years to come!!!!!!!!

The majority of fans seem to agree that Mora and company must go. I don’t agree with the guys who want to throw out the whole team as well. “Dave” wants Crumpler cut…are you kidding me? The guy has a bad season (along with most of the team) after being a cornerstone of the offense? If thats your criteria you’d never be able to field a team! I also don’t want to see Vick cut…yet. Since coaching could be his problem (it was for every other area of this team) I’d give him one more year to improve his fundementals. See what can be worked out with Schaub contract-wise. Let him know he will be the QB if Vick doesn’t improve and let Vick know he’s not untouchable. I’m still curious about the realistic choices for head coach. It looks like Cowher is going to quit. What about him? I’ve heard Whisenhunt’s name mentioned. To me he’s potentially another Mora. He’s a hometown guy whose been the OC for a team that hasn’t been consistent on offense this year. Jimmy Johnson? Is there even a chance he’d come back to coaching? Seriously, what are our options?

With all the nonsense sprewing, it’s just obvious that Mora wasn’t ready for a head coaching job. You can’t surround yourself with buddies, you will at some point have to step in if they are not getting the job done. Knapp will walk away, but it seems that Mora and he were a package deal. It’s obvious the players wanted Mora to address the obvious deficiencies but he refused to insert his power. Now with his latest debacle, he has lost all credibility within the organization. The players are speaking in code about Knapp, the soft defensive schemes, starting Hartwell over Williams, Blaming B. Scott and others for a soft scheme with the same results or worse with Crocker. Not to mention the Webster fiasco, not getting Norwood enough touches, a whack offensive approach extemely conservative, just a sorry transformation from a team on the cusp of the Superbowl to a soft San Fran style that hasn’t worked since the mid 90’s. Too many soft players. One thing about Vick, Dunn, Crumpler those cats lay it on the line every week. The results may not be there but they lay it out. Hall, Hartwell, the receiving corps, Crocker, and the schemes leave a lot to be desired. But goes back to accountability which Mora has never really enforced, with the players nor his staff and now it rears its ugly head.

Say what you want about the players’ attitudes, paychecks, lack of pride etc., and you may be right to a certain extent, but it doesn’t change the fact that what the players said is true. The Falcons have flawed schemes on both sides of the ball and are inconsistent in every facet of the game. I don’t blame them for speaking up — if anything, I’m surprised these issues weren’t raised earlier, and if Mora wasn’t every player’s buddy I’m sure these issues would have been raised at some point earlier in the season, like after the Giants game for example.

Not surprisingly… The AJC has failed to do a follow up story to the Jimmy Williams will start. While I wasn’t paying attention much to his coverage (he wasn’t on an island at all if I remember right). I do believe he did pretty well in coverage.
What I wanted to state though is that he was a beast when it came to open field tackles. I know of at least three bone cracking hits where he not only hit them hard but wrapped them up and drove them down.
Maybe just maybe after we have covered all the negitive we can look at the small small positive.

I always see everyone pounding on Brooking. Calling him a pile jumper and what not so he can rack up 1/2 tackles and such… I just don’t see it. I have watched and watched over the last 2 years. I can count on both hands how many times I have seen a pile jumper (thank god for PVR/Tivo).
Last Year I saw him playing out of position and o-lineman pealing off the undersized d-line to slap Brooking around.
This year we have Beef-O-Grady which has helped most of the time but in that last game I saw both Brooking and Hartwell having to deal with 320 lb guys all day long. With the way our D-Line played even the origional LT would have been useless.
Did anyone else hear that idiot broadcaster during a replay talk about how Grady wasn’t occuping enough blockers? It showed him with one guy head to head, another 300 lb’er side, chipping him on the way to sit on Brooking, and then still another (believe it was the FB) hitting him from the other side.
Anyway the defensive scheme sucks. The offense doesn’t have a scheme so it has no way to suck.
Jim Mora should be reassigned to head cheerleader.
Greg Knapp should be bed to some starving pigs.
Ed Donnetell should be shot, stabbed, raped, and then tar and feathered.
Who ever is lacing Blank’s whole grain total with acid needs to stop. The real world is much more fun.
D. Hall - If your truely the best or one of the best in the league then how about you DEMAND to be put on an island. Maybe your butt will not be as lazy in coverage as you have been 75% of the games if you didn’t have help and every play your pride was on the line.
J.Williams - Good show Rook. Nice hits nice tackleing. Maybe you can remind the rest of the squad how to wrap up.
Vick - To hell with the coaches. Have a meeting with your offense and say look guys. I am freaking audibling regardless of what these retards say. Then create 5 or 6 plays based off of a few simple signs.
RB - Nice Job. Won us a couple and didn’t really lose us any. You can’t help it that they only call three different plays all game.
WR - Catch or go cut your freaking hands off because after the last two years I would be scared if I saw you working at burger king flipping burgers. You guys drop more $@%* than 3 day cares.
Boley - You’re a stud. Keep working and you could be really really good.
Milloy - I had heard you were a leader. Be that guy for the D. Brooking is not a leader so you have to step up.
Crocker - Safety help over the top means you actually have to be awake to help. Quit sleeping on your corners and help out.
Special Teams - You are not called Special because of your lack of intelligence. Mort nice job this year.
Creative punt formation guys… Very Cute. How about we get some of that creativeness built into the offense and defense.
Blitzes or Dogs every play. Run Dog or blitz on the situations.
Man Cover 2 with Demario and Boley manned up with TE/RB and Rush everyone else every single down.
Just for once I would like to see the entire Defense fall back 5 yards on 3rd and long with a D.Hall blitz or something interesting that people never game plan for.

I just think there is enough blame to go around. Jim Mora and the staff seem in over their heads.
Play calling is only average AT BEST.
Wide receivers as well as our Pro Bowl tight end have dropped a lot of balls this year.
Our QB, while giving max effort, is still inconsistent.
Our “all world” cornerback has gotten burned too many times this year.
The defense as a whole has not played up to expectations.
Anyone remember the kicking fiasco to begin the year?
Just a system wide problem. I just hate it when folks start the individual blame game. You win as a team and you lose as a team.

Thank God. The players finally speak out about this dysfuctional coaching staff and the lackadaisical play of some of the players. I put the blame for this whole mess sqaurely on the shoulders of the coaching staff. Didn’t they see that what they have been trying to do for the last two years was not working? Did they think that if they continued to bring the same strategy game after game after game, that somehow it would magically start to work? Every game plan, both offensively and defensively are pretty much the same. Makes it very easy for the opposing coaches to counter. We have been outcoached and out performed by some of the worst teams in the NFL. Yes, it is definitely time for a change. And that change should start with the coaches.

There is enough blame to go around from the front office to the coaches to the players for this debacle of a season. However most of the blame resides with the players, they are the ones running, passing and tackling, not the coaches. The bottome line is the Falcons offense was figured out by the rest of the NFL. The falcons have to run a pee wee offense for the benefit of their pee wee quarterback. The defense ends up taking the blame when they lose even though they only gave up 10 points in the last game. Half of you Falcons fans have no clue as to whats going on. The AJC writers stink as bad as the falcons. I was criticizing this team when they were 5-2 and I criticize them today because I can see them for whtat they are, under talented, over paid whiners who really don’t care for anything but fame and money. The do not want to put forth the work and effort required to get better or win games. To be honest there are a few guys on this team that do care, unfortunately they don’t actually touch the ball enough to make a real difference. Maybe a new Defensive coordinator is needed, definately not a new offensive coordinator, Knapp was a genius when he came here! Now he’s a bum? Get real, its the pee wee quarterback Vick making this offense stink and inconsistent and of course he’s blaming Knapp. Of course its not Vick’s fault! Vick is a great its not my fault it his fault kind of guy! Quarterbacks in the NFL look to pass first then run, not run first then pass! With this type of mind set, the receivers run a route and then give up because if the ball is not in the air 99% of the time vick is running not throwing. Get rid of Vick, Me Hall, and a few others and start over. Until then the falcons can go to lose every game as far as I am concerned I won’t root for them no matter what and I’ve been a Falcon fan since 1969 but no more!

Look, plain and simple, the Falcons have issues. The coaching staff has dug themselves a huge hole and the players aren’t making things better by running their mouths. But all they should be worrying about right now is the upcoming game in Philadelphia. Because let me tell you, that is not an easy place to play and you can bet their stadium will be full of loud screaming Philly fans, unlike the empty lifeless Dome last Sunday. Hopefully the team can come together and play together as a team instead of individuals and produce a victory to end a dismal season on somewhat of a positive note. Worry about the offseason after Sunday, just go out and play up to the standards everybody thought the Falcons would play up to at the beginning of the year. Even though it is slim, the Falcons still have a shot at the playoffs and they have a chance to cost Philadelphia the NFC East Division Title. Just put the past in the rearview mirror and go out and WIN A FOOTBALL GAME! GO FALCONS!

I agree with Falcons Stink in that the Falcons should get rid of DeAngelo Hall because he is such a cancer to the team with his arrogence and his “Me Hall” attitude, he kind of reminds me of Deion Sanders and his selfish attitide which makes me remember why the Falcons and the Braves had to get rid of Sanders. Now, back to DeAngelo, and in the spirit of Christmas, I would begin by “Decking the Halls” by clearing out DeAngelo Hall and sending him out of here and off someplace else so he can be a cancer to some other team.

Andy, I agree. If Mora goes, it would be Vick’s 3rd system since his tenure. How many QB’s go through that many systems in a career…let alone 6 seasons ( 4 of which he’s started). So, as much as I want Mora & Co. to go, I would be happy if we went 8-8, and Knapp & Donatell were fired. I also think too many people get on Vick’s case, because expectations are so high on him. I was listening to Len Pasquerlli (Spelling?) on ESPN yesterday, and he said the very same thing. He said how great Vick is, and how you can’t put Vick in any one category, because he’s so unconventional. And to all those naysayers, Vick is 5th QB in league w/ highest winning %.

Thousands upon thousands of words have been written on this blog —- some in support of and others criticizing the performance of the hapless Birds over the past two seasons —- and particularly, the last 23 regular season games. After all is said and done, if this team was a car, you’d “total” it. The team sucks. The coaches suck. And, this retrospective by the players and coaches is nothing but unadulterated horse hockey! Mr. Blank is faced with a mighty challenge, but my guess is that Mora will throw his assistants under the bus —- just like the players are doing to him —- to salvage his job. It’s really an ugly spectacle and again the fans end up sucking hind teat!

Vick is 15-16 in the last 31 games…… I’d have to say that’s pretty darn good for a one-man team. Oh, wait, make that 15-15 - he didn’t play at all in that Pats loss. Hmmm, so 50% by himself is pretty impressive. Wonder what the record would be if there was 11 men on defense, 11 on special teams and 10 more on the offense. Playing alone like that, he’s bound to lose some.

There is not a big difference in the talent level between the best team and the worst team. The reason one team is so much better than another team is the coaching. Preparation, shemes, in game adjustments are what makes teams successful. Teams are a group of individuals that work in harmony towards one goal. What the players are saying is that they have no clue as to who they are suppose to be as a team. A lot of you want to label Vick and Hall as cry babies throwing their coaches under the bus. What about Dunn and Crumpler? Are they selfish cry babies as well? No. They are professional atheletes who recognize what the real problems are on this team. This team has no identity. You don’t know what you are going to get from the Falcons from week to week. Is that the players fault? No. It is the coaches responsibility to recognize the type of talent that they have on the team, and put those players in the best situation to succeed. Study the tape and see what works well for the offense and defense and what does not. Throw out the plays that have not been successful and concentrate on the plays that the team executes well. And from there come up with variations of those plays. That is what makes a coaching staff successful.

I HAVE ONE QUESTION FOR EVERYBODY, IS VICK NOT THE SAME QUARTERBACK WHO TOOK US TO THE NFC CHAMPIONSHIP? SAME SKILLS HE HAD THEN HE HAS NOW.
PERFECT EXAMPLE IS JEFF GARCIA IN SAN FRANCISCO HE WAS A PRO-BOWLER, WHEN HE LEFT TO GO TO DETROIT AND CLEVELAND HE SUCKED. NOW HES PLAYING LIKE A PRO-BOWLER AGAIN. WHY? SEEMS TO ME ITS THE SYSTEM. JEFF GARCIA EXCELS IN THE WEST COAST OFFENSE. MIKE VICK DOES NOT!!!!
HOW HARD COULD THAT BE TO FIGURE OUT, IF IT WAS DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WINNING AND LOSING? ITS NOT GREG KNAPPS FAULT, HE KNOW THE WEST COAST OFFENSE, HOW IS HE SUPPOSED TO RECREATE A WHOLE NEW SCHEME THAT HE HAS NO EXPERIENCE WITH. I THINK VICK HAS BEEN FIGHTING THIS SCHEME EVER SINCE THEY IMPLEMENTED IT. THE SCHEME TAKES AWAY FROM HIS CREATIVENESS. VICK LOVES TO AD LIB , MOVE AROUND ROLL OUT, THROW DEEP.
IF BLANK DOES DECIDE TO KEEP MORA AND GREG KNAPP AND THE WEST COAST OFFENSE. I AGREE WITH VICK HATERS THAT SCHAUB FITS THE SYSTEM BETTER. THEY SHOULD TRADE VICK TO A TEAM LIKE HOUSTON, OAKLAND, DETROIT FOR SOME OFFENSIVE, OR DEFENSIVE LINEMAN. BUT THE LONGER THIS OFFENSE SUCKS THE LESS THEY WILL GET FOR VICK.
ANOTHER THING ALL YOU RACIST POSTERS YOUR JEALOUSY TOWARD VICK IS VERY OBVIOUS? THOSE WHO CAN DO, OTHERS JUST SIT AROUND AND HATE AND WISH BAD THINGS ON PEOPLE, BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO LIFE.
I WOULD TAKE 130 MILLION AND HERPES ANY DAY. VICK SHOULD THANK HIS AGENT EVERYDAY.

It’s really a shame that the Falcons lost T.J. Duckett before the season started because I think Duckett would have been the difference-maker in getting the Falcons into the playoffs. On all of those plays where the Falcons were 3rd and 1 and 4th and 1 and needed just one yard to move the chains along but lost yardage with Dunn, Duckett would have slammed through the line and made that one yard like a Mack Truck and I think that is the one reason why the Falcons will be home for the Holidays instead of making the playoffs. Duckett used to play smash-mouth football and he used to plow through the lines like a snow plow through snow and ice. Duckett is sorely missed and I my new years resolutions is that I hope the Falcons find a way to get Duckett back and maybe the Falcons will return to their championship form when they made it to the NFC championship game and were within one game of getting into the Superbowl. T.J. Duckett was on that playoff team that accomplished that feat.

Falcons record last year 8-8, Falcons record this year 7-8. Looks like 15-16 to me. Didn’t the Falcons run the West Coast offense 3 years ago when they played in the NFC Championship game? And of course Mora and company were the toast of the town. Like I said, the core group of leaders on this team will not put forth the effort to win! Vick a one man show? well I guess 8-8 and 7-9 is his one man show results! Or take away the New England game and he’s going to be 15-16 over two years. Hall of Fame here he comes! I’ve noticed that Warrick Done has come up blameless in this fiasco of a Falcons season. After watching the Carolina game last Sunday, I think Warrick’s skills are basically Done since he didn’t display ANY skills at all that day. Every time in that Carolina game when Warwick was handed the rock, he ended up going backwards and each time he needing only 1 yard to make a first down and NEVER GOT ONE the entire game. If Warwick had needed only one inch to make a first down he would have failed to get that inch as well. Warwick Done should not utter one solitary word about his performance because he played like $hit in that game against Carolina.

There are lot of people using “TEAM” failures to vent their personal issues toward one player. BERETVERDE, you are critical of Vick for responding to fan abuse by flipping the finger. Then you turn around and state, “After someone flips me off, they will get theirs! In spades”! Why criticize Vick for expressing his feelings towards abusive fans, when you admit you would do the same to anyone attempting to abuse you? IN SPADES! There seems to be a double standard, when it involves Vick, that’s consistent among haters.

The players(stars or so called stars included) need to check themselves at the door. Instead of looking good at the club they need to try it on the field. Michael Vick needs to be himself on the field. Its working for Vince Young. He is using all of his talents. If you are not a drop back quarterback then so what. Do what you do best. As for the others don’t complain if you drop passes also(Crumpler). And to Deion Hall, I’m mean Deangelo. What have you really done beside win the NFL fastest man contest. I think you need to change your number to 22 because you remind me of Tim McKyer and Charles Dimry. BUSHWACKER, Blank will never rehire Reeves. Reeves is a control freak, and his constant need for absolute control also got him fired from Denver. When Atl hired Reeves, they agreed to make him the HC & GM. Reeves took advantage of that power by refusing to hire an OC & DC. Reeves constant battle for control forced Blank to make some adj. Rather than fire Reeves, he insisted he hire coordinators to help him. Reeves hired a DC, WPhillips, but not an OC.
Blank obviously had enough of Reeves constant struggle for control and fired him. Why would Blank want to revisit those headaches again by rehiring Reeves?

One blogger said that we needed Finnerin this year or to bring back Finnerin. Please DONT bring back Finnerin. Finnerin, when he began in Atlanta used to get away with dropping at least 100 balls per year. He did that in Philly before coming here and Andy Reid got so sick of his drops that Reid CUT Finnerin meaning Finnerin was not good enough to play for the Eagles. Dan Reeves quickly scooped up Finnerin and Finnerin is just a wannabe wide receiver. He has extremely poor skills and if he’s not good enough for Andy Reid, then he should not be good enough to play for the Falcons either. The Falcons never make a move to acquire the good wide receivers and we end up with mediocre wideouts that can’t catch a lick. When Plexico Burriss was available Blank should have gone after him. But Blank was too cheap to try and sign Burriss so we ended up with abysmal wideouts that drop more balls than they catch.

Why revisit past failures? Reeves was fired for a reason. There are bright young coordinators out there with impressive resumes. Men with strategic imagination that could mold this talented bunch of misfits into a well oiled machine. Anyone who says that the Falcons are not talented are clearly in denial. For years the Saints have been accused of being a no-talented team. All they really needed was a coach with vision and imagination to lead them. That is all the Falcons need right now!

I do agree with one thing Vick has said and that speaks for the talent that they have on this team.
It appears to be headed down hill in a hurry, and Mora placing himself in the spotlight when he did showed no talent for a head coach eyeing his team to a playoff seed.
I can’t see Blank or McKay going into any kind of talks with Dan Reeves as far as a head coach title, but there are many other reason why they might decide to call upon him to assist with future coaching ideas for the orginization.

Just read that the falcons resigned todd mcClure to a 5 year extension which signals that the falcons will stick with the cut block scheme. I would like to see them put together a more traditional offensive line that is big and powerful. Look at the philosphy the steelers have had since 1969, employ big powerful lines that dominate and wear down the opponent by running the ball and play great defense. This simple strategy has brought the steelers five world championships. A person of any intelligence would think that more of the bottom feeding franchises in the league would emulate the steelers to bring success to their teams. But the stupid teams who never get any better like the falcons keep trying the gimmicks- e.g- run and shoot/ cut block / running back playing QB, etc. Don’t expect any success out of this franchise in the near future as it looks like they will continue down the path of ineptitude.

About players venting, that is always a symptom of teams that don’t play to their potential. They cover up their own lame effort, by throwing the coach or another player under the bus. You really have to ask; “How many of the Falcon players would be starters on one of the better teams in the League?” If you can analyze the answer, you’ll come up with only a small percentage.

i swear if i hear one more person say matt schaub needs to play QB i will personally find you and slap you. there is a reason he doesnt start and that is because Mike Vick is better. and yes i think they do need to stick with the run game (with the exception of throwing it to Alge cuz he is on my fantasy team) because that is what they are best at if anyone (jim mora) hasent realized that. i think we have got a fair shot at the eagles as long as the falcons are on top of there game which is a rare sight now aday. hey they are still my team and i will be rooting for them.

Why don’t some of you would take time and read with a little comprehension, and less emotion. Players aren’t complaining about Mora, they’re complaining about his coordinators. Their only concern with him seems to be his unwillingness to be more demanding of them.
If we win the last gm, I believe Blank will give Mora an option. To retain his job, he has to sever his loyalties, and fire his coordinators, or be fired along with them. If Mora is retained, and competent coordinators are selected, the Falcons will have an excellent season next yr. This will be especially true if Mora gives his new coordinators the same latitude he’s given the current failures.

Mora should apply for bama job now!
Vick should be traded, repostion, bench or cut. Yes, Im black, so dont hit me w/ the racist crap.
Mckay needs to be fired six weeks ago. If Vick cant get nothing done by halftime vs Philly, pull him. Cut overweight Grady Jackson, aging Brooks, always hurting Hartwell and Kerney and slow Miloy. Replace Rossum w/ a young gun. Get a true FULLBACK and more TE’s!

Let me start by saying I agree w/ Vick 100%, with the talent the Falcon’s have, they should be one of if not THE most dangerous offensive team in the NFL.
It seems clear that either Knapp and/or Mora won’t be back next year. I think Mora should stay & Knapp should go but we’ll wait and see.
I can’t see Vick going anywhere, even though I’ve read on differnet NFL rumor sites he may request a trade I don’t think Blank will let this happen.
Whatever changes are made this offseason, here’s a few tips from an armchair QB:
1)Find ways to incorporate aspects of both Steve Young and Vince Young.
The 49ers tailored the west coast offense for Steve Young who at the start of his career was a mobile QB who wasn’t the most accurate passer. Steve has the SB hardware to prove it can be done.
Vince Young is having good success in Norm Chow’s offense, I haven’t watched any Titans games so I’m not familiar w/ their offense but whatever they’re doing seems to work for Vince. On a side note, the Titan’s don’t have any big name receivers either.
2)With Norwood’s speed and open field running, look to how the Saints are using Bush or how the Rams used Faulk. I’m not saying Norwood is the same level as these 2 but I think this would fit Norwood’s stengths better.
3) In the NFL size matters and I think the zone(cut) blocking scheme needs to go. The zone blocking scheme is OK for run blocking but has not given Vick sufficient pass protection.
4) Whatever happens, let’s see more creativity on offense next year!!!
Go Falcons!!!

trade vick for oaktown’s number 1 pick, 3rd pick, michael huff, chris carr, joey porter…
get an offensive lineman with the 1st and 3rd picks…mclure, forney and weiner are all locked up and solid….
michael huff and jimmy williams as the safeties.. d hall and sign a decent corner on the other side. resign kerney. release brook.(due to age and price) let backers be.. demorrio - weakside, hartwell/beck - middle, boley - strongside… abraham, kerny - ends, jackson/jackson and coleman -tackles….. dunn goes. norwood becomes primary back. schaub becomes qb. resign griffith. have porter, white, jenk and finn as the receivers. sign undrafted free agent danny ware.
start to build some quality depth with the rest of the draft in the 2ndary and d line.
get rid of mckay. keep mora.

C’mon Iceman that was very stupid of you. Vick has been bad at times. So has every other QB this year.Under the circumstances I can’t blame him, our O line is pour. This team as a whole is simply not that good. Defensively and offensively. To say that it’s Vick fault is ignoring all the other problems that this team has. I think the guy is pretty good. This scheme offensively and defensively is flawed and I can only conclude that the coaching is the main cause. Our players simply dont fit the team. We try to run with undersized players. Just last week a team threw the ball 7 times and beat us (defense is horrible). You can’t seriously blame that on Vick. I don’t really like Mora but I don’t see another head coach that really blows me away. Like someone posted earlier the players aren’t really complaining about Mora, but there complaining about his coordinators. Blank should force him to get rid of those guys. If he doesn’t like it they should send him packing too. We’re a couple of draft picks and free agents away from a superbowl.

I was trying to make the point that most fans of Vick’s, which are black Atlantans, only support him because he’s black. That being the reason, why don’t we just recruit the blackest person we can find and be satisfied. Since I’m black myself and do not possess a slave mentality I can make statements such as the one I made @11:40.

Dont bring Dan Reeves back in here. What is this obsession with firing people and then bringing them back years later. The Braves did the same thing with Bobby Cox. They fired him and brought him back. He ended up winning a championship, but that was in spite of his incompetence as a manager. Bobby Cox is totally incompetent when you consider that he made the post-season 14 straight years and only won 1 championhip. What a complete waste of time. Now the Georgia Bulldogs are doing the same thing with Mike Bobo. Why don’t the Falcons bring back Jamal Anderson, Tony Martin, Eugene Robinson, Dan Reeves and Co. and try to make it to another Superbowl. Its absolute foolishness to continue to recycle coaches like you recycle garbage or aluminum cans. Just remember that Dan Reeves proved himself to be incompetent as a head coach so we absolutely DON’T need him back here again. Why not bring in a poven winner like Jimmy Johnson, Bill Walsh, Bill Cohwer, George Seifert, Mike Holmgren names like that of men who have Championship rings under their belt. Not Dan Reeves who took the the Broncos to the Superbowl three straight years and couldn’t win it. Dan Reeves took the Falcons to the Superbowl and couldn’t win it. So Dan Reeves WILL NEVER WIN THE SUPERBOWL. Let Dan Reeves rest in peace. We don’t need him. Just hire one of the aforementioned coaches that I outlined earlier and you will see the Falcons reach the Superbowl and win the Superbowl.

Eternal Optimist, The defense gave up 10 points that is NOT horrible. The offense scored 3 that IS horrible. The Falcons may be a couple of draft picks and free agents away from the super bowl but they are also going to have to get some folks healthy and make a couple of trades. There are players on the current roster who have laid down this season and with the money they make especially no.7 they should be traded for players who actually give a damn. Some of these guys need to stop laying the blame on the coaches and look in the mirror to find the REAL reason that they are losers!

Another wasted season for #7. U suckers think John Abraham comes to Atlanta if no Micheal Vick. MV didn’t have any problems with Dan Reeves plays. We even had the opportunity to audible out of a bad play back then. Think the falcons win 3 straight if Vick gets hurt(ala Philly). Didn’t see Arthur pushing Partrick Kerney around in a wheel chair. Find a real coach who know how to win. Remind me again why Jimmy Mora was available in the first place. Seems like the 49ers are finally gettin rid of the funk these d******* left in San Fran. How do you take the most explosive player in NFL history and make him a joke? Gregg Knapp.

Sad to say the least! COach Mora I believe was a god coach learning to be a head coach. I dont think it can all be laid at his feet. The players (some)need to be accountable. terrible hands, Terrible defense, and terrrible offensive calls. That CAN be laid at his feet. He should have made a change when he clearly saw that the offense was not working. Take Vick the quarterback (please) out of the equation and the running game is not so hot. By the way although I like A.Blank I dont think this was a wise move. Again we have to start all over again! Again! so sad

I really wish we had Vince Young.
I heard V Young in a interview and a reporter asked him how he compared to Mike Vick.
Vince was taken aback and instead of saying Vick was a good player who he looked up to , Young said that Vick and his game were not the same. There was no comparison.
I think thats because V Young can pass a football and runs north south. He is also not a out of bounder on every play. Vick reminds me of Deion Sanders getting out of bounds so much.
this blog is pretty funny

Another Falcons coach gone. I don’t think winning organizations manage their coaching staff like this. Tom Landry, Chuck Noll, Don Shula, Bill Cowher, and a few others, were all at their respective places a long time. In the case of Tom Landry and Bill Cowher, they each posted losing seasons before making their teams perrenial winners. The Falcons have always tried to re-create the wheel with each coaching change. The Smith family did this, once dismissing Leeman Bennett with the saying the next coach will take the team to “the next level.” Yeah right. Under Arthur Blank this has not changed. Same old Falcons.

I have some good reasons why the falcons offense stumbled half way through the season. 1.COACHING, HORRIBLE PLAY CALLING. MORA IS THE HEAD COACH. HE COULD OVERRIDE SOME OF WORST PLAY CALLING KNOWN TO MAN, BUT CHOSE NOT TO. 2. ON DEFENSE HE COULD OVERRIDE THE DEFENSIVE SCHEMES TO MAKE ADJUSTMENTS AT HALF TIME, BUT CHOSE NOT. 3. THE REDZONE SCORING PERCENTAGE WAS DOWN BECAUSE THESE IDIOT COACHES CHOSE NOT TO UTILIZE THEIR FULLBACKS IN RUNNING ATTACKS. THUS THE DEFENSES KEY HEAVILIY ON VICK AND DUNN. ANY PERSON KNOWLEDABLE OF FOOTBALL KNOW THAT YOUR FULLBACK IN THE REDZONE AREA IS YOUR ANCHOR. WHEN GRIFFIN WAS USED IN THAT AREA A FEW YRS AGO. HE AND DUCKETT HELPED MOVE THE BALL CLOSER TO THE GOAL LINE. DUCKETT SHOULD HAVE BEEN TURNED INTO A FULLBACK. THAT FULLBACK PRESENCE WAS MISSED IN THE REDZONE. THATS WHEN THE FALCONS RUNNING PLAYS BECOME VERY PREDICTABLE TO THE OPPOSING DEFENSES, DUNN OR VICK. THE FULLBACK WOULD HAVE OFF SET THAT BY GIVING HIM THE BALL STRAIGHT UP THE MIDDLE. THAT WOULD HAVE OPENED THE OUT SIDE FOR A QUICK HITCH PASS PLAY OR QB OR RUNNING BACK SWEEP TO THE OUTSIDE.
NEXT THE COACHES WERE UNPROVEN WHEN THEY WERE HIRED PERIOD. MORA AND KNAPP COME FROM THE 49ERS WHO WERE THE 31ST OR 32ND TEAM IN THE LEAGUE OR AT LEAST CLOSE TO IT. NO PLAYOFF WINS, NO SUPER BOWL RINGS. MORA NEVER BEEN A HEAD COACH. AT LEAST HE COULD HAVE CAME FROM A TEAM WITH A WINNING RECORD SO HE WOULD HAVE KNOWN HOW TO WIN GAMES IN THE 4TH QUARTER. THIS WAS BLANKS FAULT PERIOD. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. THE FALCONS PERSONELL ON OFFENSIVE IS LIKE HAVING A WELL OILED SUPPED UP RACE CAR FERRARI. YOU WANT AN EXPERIENCED RACE CAR DRIVER WHO HAS A FEW TROPHIES DRIVING BEHIND THE WHEEL, NOT THE GUY WHO PUTS THE AIR IN THE TIRES. BLANK SHARES THE BLAME FOR NOT DOING HIS HOMEWORK. AND VICK WITH DESCENT PASS PROTECTION WILL RISE AGAIN LIKE HE DID FOR REEVES.

WHO SAID MV7 CAN’T READ DEFENSES? THE COACHES NEVER SAID IT? YOU GUYS MEANING WHITE GUYS THAT ASSUME HE CAN’T BECAUSE HE’S BLACK AND LESS INTELLIGENT THAN OTHER WHITE QB ONLY TALK THIS BS. YOU ASSUME HE HAS PROBLEMS W/ THE PLAY BOOK TOO! THEY COACHES WON’T ALLOW HIM TO AUDIBLE. I BET IF HE DID AS HE SAID, HE WOULD HAVE OVER CAME COACHING AND PROBABLY WOULD HAVE OUTRIGHT WON ATLEAST TWO MORE GAMES FOR THEM REGARDLESS OF SORRY THEIR DEFENSE PLAYED. MIGHTY FUNNY HOW YOU VICK HATERS NEVER MENTION HOW THE DEFENSE LOST GAMES FOR THE FALCONS IN THE 4TH QUARTER INSTEAD OF VICK. VICK HOLDS THE BLAME FOR THAT TOO! THAT SHOW HOW REALLY STUPID AND RACIST YOU FOLKS REALLY ARE! I GUESS YOU CAN’T HELP IT BECAUSE IT’S IN YOUR BLOOD AND HEART! YOU FOOLS NEED PRAYER!

The perfect head coach for the Falcons would be Leehman Bennett. He once coached the Falcons about 20 years during the Steve Bartkowski years and I think he would know what to do with Michael Vick. Michael Vick has a lot of talent and should be used as a very dangerous lethal weapon on offense. Leehman Bennett was a great head coach and his teams always played with passion and intensity. I think Leehman Bennett would be a real good candidate for the current coaching vacancy and I think Bennett would get the most out of the team as it currently is comprised.
