Best run-blocker’s ability to play in doubt
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Guard Kynan Forney (shoulder), defensive end John Abraham, linebacker Ed Hartwell (knees) practiced today and were listed as questionable on the Falcons injury report. Coach Jim Mora said they’ve all shown encouraging signs that they’ll all be able to play Sunday against the Giants.
That’s not news, in regards to Abraham and Hartwell, who have practiced recently and shown signs that they are ready to go.
In regards to Forney, who got hurt in a 32-10 victory over Arizona, it is in the Falcons’ best interest to have him in the lineup if he’s able to play. He’s their most physically dominant run blocker, especially straight ahead, when the zone-blocking scheme isn’t called upon.
The thing is, his left shoulder popped out of place against the Cardinals, so his ability to gain and then sustain strength will be tested over the week. So will his ability to consistently be able to deliver a blow. Atlanta is going against a pretty solid defensive front and if they can’t establish the run, there could be some problems.

Losing Kynan would be a huge blow to the running game, and his pass protection skills will be missed alot also.
Steve, any word on whether we could expect to see Tyson Clabo, Austin King, or even Quinn in Forneys place?

Rian, Thanks for checking in. If Forney can’t play, Austin King would fill in. He stepped in for Forney when Kynan went down against the Cardinals.

Sorry everyone, it was Forney’s right shoulder that dislocated. Not his left.

I sure hope that we can stay away from the sustained injuries for the remainder of the season.

Man, I did not know it was this serious. As much as would like Forney in there, just like with Abraham- “it’s a marathon and not a sprint”. Rather the season, than ONE game. That’s what the bench is for. No team that I can remember won the SB without being able to replace a guy. Having said that, even though it sounds very painful and serious, I do not know how much this can affect someone technically. But I also know how shaky our OL has been (even though there have been improvements)and believe any blow to OUR line is trouble. Get well Forney REAL soon…..

Steve,
When I watched a replay of the play on which Forney got hurt, it appeared as if the Cardinals player intentionally yanked on his arm and pulled him down. Was that the case? And if so, is that being looked in to?
Thanks

Abraham will indeed play 10 games, and he’ll gobble many QB’s along the way.

The chatter about Abraham is much ado about nothing. When Abraham finally makes his return, he will be out and done for the season shortly thereafter. He has a history of groin problems and it will not take much to re-agravate it. The Falcons should continue preparing without him.

I’ll believe Hartwell and JA are okay when I see them play. Like you, Steve, I am concaerned about forney’s injury. It is serious enough that the falcons just signed a new OL to the practice squad.

Our offense line is like having a glass half full we can run block but can’t pass block that the facts. MANAGEMENT BUILDED THIS THING THIS WAY. Team now will put seven to eight in the box to stop the run and now the passing game has to work to get them out of having seven people in the box we know it and the rest of the N.F.L. knows it to. AJC never put how the offense line grades out in a game why? Hope Greg has the team ready . We will face some of the best teams in October, will we ready? It’s show time Greg Knapp ,do you have the skills to teach and lead and adjust the offense team!!! We have the right people but do we have the right coaches October will tell the story Greg Knapp and Mora, Dontell!!!!!!
