Does Inner Beauty Count?

I think that it’s a misconception that inner beauty does not matter on the dating scene. Of course, we all have our preferences on looks and types. We certainly have our shallow moments from time to time.

Just as beauty is in the eye of the beholder, such is the case for inner beauty. This basically means that what may be attractive to one person could be unattractive to another. A person’s inner beauty can actually enhance their appearance to you. Have you ever dated someone who became more and more sexy to you as you got to know them?

What do you think about the concept of inner beauty? Do you think it matters as much as the other things?

I know many women that say they want to be desired, but they also want to be appreciated for their other attributes. What do women usually expect from men to show this appreciation?

Guys, what is your perspective on inner beauty?

Interesting Topic LMAO!! A person can’t become sexy over time. It is either they are sexy or not. I DO believe a person can become more attractive over time if they aren’t easy to look at, especially if the convo is interesting and they make you laugh. If they have a sh*t load of paper, that can make you interested in their inner beauty REAL QUICK too..

Morning All

Now I get it. Women we have pegged men all wrong all this time. When they are eager to get into your panties and explore you from the inside out, all they are trying to do is find your Inner Booty…oops I meant Inner Beauty…thats all ladies.

Slim pauses for a thinking spell while rubbing chin

So with that said, I guess the only way to reciprocate that is to probe their inner reck-tum to find the inner booty…oops I meant inner beauty right?

Yep. Someone I wasn’t initially attracted to ended up getting under my skin (in a good way). He was persistant and kept asking, inviting wooing, which in turn was impressive. As we meshed more and more I started feeling an attraction and then begin to think….hmmmm, he’s actually pretty easy on the eyes. Don’t know how I missed it initially. So, yeah I can say I have.

Inner beauty is vital to a longer term successful relationship, without question. It’s what one “sees” when no longer looking outwardly, e.g., after being intimate someone for me.

What I can see is temporary and less important (literary & figuratively speaking) than what I can’t see, which is lasting and more important.

However, as a male, I must admit, I’ve struggled with this one!

It always seems the most attractive women are not so beautiful “underneath” and not so attractive women are wonderful women. Seriously, I want both and it has been difficult for me to find!

Morning everyone.

I don’t think it’s a misconception that inner beauty doesn’t count. We’ve all preached on here about people who have outer beauty and no substance.

I do expect to be appreciated for more than outer beauty. I’ve found that I’m more receptive to compliments on the inner than the outer. If a guy tells me I’m “sexy” I’m kind of bland with the thanks. On compliments on who I am, I’m much more responsive and appreciative. Outer beauty fades.

The phrase Beauty is in the eye of the beholder inherently assumes inner beauty. There are only few of us who are either handsome or pretty/beautiful.The rest of the folks, men and women are just okay or average to the eye! So we go by inner beauty. The term beauty is in the eye… was actually coined to gloss over the structural defincies some of you have in the beauty area,so people can concentrate on inner beauty to justify their choices. Consider this:80% of women would proly say Denzel is handsome, and maybe 50% would say the same about Idriss Elber altho they wld still choose Idriss if given the chance. That 50% on Idriss is going on inner beauty, and not intrinsic beauty or handsomeness. I prefer to go with inner beauty coz the pretty and beautiful women are actually more expensive and will hit ur wallet, their egos are fragile and they place value on vane stuff most of the time.Consider Halle, for example.I would not even sleep with her if i had an opportunity! So i go with inner beauty, meaning, what else do i find valuable in this chic:her booty(1),manners,height,complexion,education,manners-2,communication skills, relationship with her daddy etc. That profile i get based on the above etc will constitute the inner beauty about her.

Inner beauty is what’s important and makes you a good person. However it takes getting to know a person before you can view what’s beautiful inside. The problem with society today is some can’t see pass the exterior to even get to know what is deep within. A good kind person makes for a much better partner in the longterm. And to really be honest also in the short term.

My husband is a pretty good looking guy to me. But I did not choose him because of that. Fortunately our long lived friendship made that possible. I fell for whitebread because he was gorgeous. He turned out to be a beautiful liar. And cheat. The Nature Guy was also nice to look at but his blahism just kinda…

I am an experiencer of a person getting sexier over time. I find it funny sometimes as to what enhances that sexieness of him in me. Once he was sitting on the floor playing with mega blocks with our grandson and I was walking thru and just found him to be super sexy at that very moment. Like I wanted to procreate with him at the sight of him sincerely interacting in fatherly way with a child. So sexy.

And there are the obvious sexiness enhancers, kind deeds helping out friends, manly manual labor, losing sleep taking care of his sick parent, waking up at 2am in the morning while in the hospital and he is right there less that 2ft. away. I could name more but I won’t.

Unfortunately, for most ppl physical appearance is the first and foremost attribute that someone assesses about another person…and in most cases it is almost exclusive in significance…I base this on experience as well as on what I have listened to other ppl say about the physical appearance of someone else…sad, but true.

The emphasis that is put on how attractive a person disportionately overrides the other attributes that convey the essence of an individual…and it can work both ways as there is bias about attractive and unattractive appearance.

Perhaps, experience, maturity and such make ppl more aware, attuned or open to being able to put less emphasis on someone’s physical attractiveness as a main focus of attraction…being able to appreciate attributes of character, personality, intelligence and integrity may then become more valuable as an assessment tool.

If u are beautiful personally and have lots of inner beauty about u,u blessed. Most beautiful pretties females I have come across smell themselves way too much, act that way in dating and realize their mistakes way too late to get any meaningful redemption as far as dating is concerned.Halle had to do a complete cross over and now she has to content with a man with a small dyckk, all becoz she failed to appreciate the most important qualities in a man, early on.

Morning Folks!

melo I don’t know what females you’ve been talking to, but Idris’ outer fineness surpasses Denzel in my book.

Inner beauty is VERY important to me and I definitely believe that a person gets sexier over time. Sexy to me isn’t in the looks but in things that a man may say or do.

off-topic Hawaii was great. The Pro Bowl game was good but it sucks that the NFL got rid of the skills challenge. PoppaG, I knew they were moving it before I went. From what I’ve heard the players don’t like that decision (neither do I) but that stadium in Hawaii needs a MAJOR upgrade. All in all I had a great time though. Your comment about physically attractive women supports the two-way bias that I am talking about…again it all boils down to how a person percieves another’s physical attractiveness…it is almost always assumed that because a woman is physically good looking that she is high maintenance and self-centered…and this is not always true…nor do I think that Halle is a fair example of that type of woman…she actually made the statement that she felt that way too much emphasis was placed on her physical appearance, and while she did not choose how she looks…she did choose who she is.

I do not think that there is a mutually exclusive categorization of being physically attractive and also being a very solid person from within…what I think circumvents these co-existing attributes to be overlooked as mutually abiding is the perception of ppl by others based on physical appearance…it is just as wrong to assume that a physically attractive appearance makes someone shallow and vain.

Dreams - You know I can admit I have let some stuff slide that goodlooking dudes did that I would have never let a average dude get away with. I’ve matured from that though.

Outer attraction is what draws, inner beauty is the keeper. That’s if you are serious about a relationship and are pass being shallow. ‘Cause you know we all have had our shallow days.

The thing about inner and outer beauty and actually having a relationship with someone, you are conscious of the outer beauty at all times. Like when sitting across from him at breakfast or dinner I am thinking to myself ‘wow that’s a good looking man right there’. Occasionally but not the majority of the time. We are a couple and we are together and that’s just the norm of our life. He can say something that will stir my inner self more than just looking at him. That what he says is a part of his inner beauty.

By M'Karyl

February 12, 2009 10:22 AM | Link to this

@Melo

That is probably true to some degree…but not everyone has spent their entire life being perceived as physically attractive…and so, when a stereotype is applied to someone based upon the perception of their appearance today, then a very egregious assumption may very well be made about how that individual perceives self from within as a person…not an appearance.

And too, the fault of shallowness based on physical appearance is often placed as a burden on the shoulders of physically attractive* ppl through no desire, will or fault of their own…my uncle once said that pretty babies have no problem gettng attention, but ugly babies do…sad but true…some ppl are conditioned from a very young age to believe that their physical appearance makes them more special and desirable…they are conditioned to respond to how ppl perceive the way they look…and it becomes apart of the overall internalized value of self-perception…so that by a certain age the value of their looks is what they learn to value about themselves.

Kym we really lucked out on this trip. We bought the game tickets knowing we were on the NFC side, but when we got there our seats were in the nice shaded area. We randomly picked a hotel only to find that Falcons were staying there. It was great. Then on the flight back I got a chance to witness the dark chocolatey goodness that is Ronnie Brown. That man looks like someone just took a nice batch of dark chocolate, whipped it up until it was perfectly smooth and then molded him. Now THAT is some outer beauty.

Cemeeli I’m going to send you the pictures and our documentary once we get everything downloaded.

I absolutely believe that “Inner beauty” is part of the “beauty package”. I do not care if a woman is absolutely stunning and I would let the networks broadcast it live taking her right in the middle of the street, I will detach ASAP if I discover she is a shallow, discourteous, Barbie doll. One can only spend a certain amount of time in the “throws of passion”, but one still has to put up with that person the rest of the time.

This will sound remarkably petty and stupid, but I have a simple acid test that automatically will disqualify a lady, no matter how good looking. If I am at a department store, and I see a lady who, after emptying her buggy, does not make the effort to take the buggy over to the buggy rack, then that tells me right there that she has no consideration for others probably in all facets of her life. I will not tolerate a lack of common courtesy. That is MY choice.

Sounds stupid, but those are the types of cues I look for.

It’s on you individually in being responsible for your health. While it’s a foul move to pass an STD it your fault if you get it. I never depend on some dude to ensure my health.

The only way that I’m hard to look at is if you’re walking around with one of them red-tipped, white sticks.

And you’re right, you state facts and the inference gained from your own statements is that a healthy supply of cash makes it a lot easier for you to look at a dude who otherwise you might not find attractive.

Now I wasn’t exactly calling you a h0, as much as stating how your comments sounded; but since hit dogs holla, all I’m gon’ do is tell you, “H0 si’dine.”

Good Morning Everyone!

Inner Beauty… MMMMM… Yes there is such a thing, if you are the kind of person that takes the time to get to know the person and allow yourself to get pass the outer deficiencies. Inner beauty, (heart, mind, motivations, things you cannot see outwardly.)

I have found, never look at a person that is not attractive too long, because you just might get hooked and find something cute about them.

to me “Sexy” is an attitude not a look.

Men do you feel more comfortable spending money on an average looking chick than you do the chicks considered dime piece beauties? I dont feel comfortable spending money on either but i will gladly spend money on a chic if that aligns with my objectives/pay off.More often than not, a dime piece will want her nails, hair etc done to maintain her perch and may want u to finance it.That may perpetuate the perception we have about them BUT if im game to it,cool,as long as i know, i can get smething out of it. More often than not, a woman with more substance will not want financing from you.And the average chic usually falls into that category.

LMAO…Slim you are a true fool!

Blue I can see where Michelle is coming from about the paper statement. Come now people such as Diddy, Jay-Z, etc…if they did not have money and power…they would not get the amount of women they get. Let’s face it…they are NOT attractive. But money can make you find something about them attractive…not to mention they can afford to up the anty with great dental work, wardrobe, car, crib, etc. Now I myself could never be a gold digger. If I have to even think about kissing somebody I do not find attractive, I barf a bit in my mouth! EWW, gross..I know! I am not sleeping with your money, I am sleeping with your ugly azz! So Staceye sho’ would suck as a Gold Digger! LOL

Melo you judge a woman on her relationship with her dad? What if her dad is a total d1ck?

Cemeeli girl I will buy children’s liquid motrin or tylenol wiht my throat is sore….it works better because it tastes good so I will actually take it and it thick and helps to coat the throat (guys get your mind out of the gutter)! LOL

M’Karyl you are right. I have had dudes tell me that they think I am high maintenance and I woudl cost them a lot of money within the first meeting of me. I asked why,and they said because I was attractive. At first I took offense to it. But then I said well since I keep my hair and nails done and I work out and make sure my clothes and shoes are on point I guess I am…to myself because I do not expect a man to maintain me. I do a pretty good job myself. I have been paying for it this long..why stop now? I also have to let them know I do it for me…not for the attention of men. I do it because it makes me feel good. Well, I have learned that you can be covered from top to bottom…not muslim style mind you…just maybe a long skirt, a blazer and a blouse…and some men will still put the emphasis on what your arse looks like..* Now that is the truth! People say if you don’t want guys looking at your body wear lose clothes…well it does not help. Not to mention..depending on your body type, lose clothing can make you look fat! No way buddy…do ever want to do that!

Slim I saw that movie in the theater…Sam Jackson did his thing. I love him as a actor. He made me hate him….so as a actor he did his job!

On topic physical attractiveness is number one for me…if I am not attracted to you…we could never be more than friends. I can NOT sleep with somebody I feel no physical attraction to. Now he can’t be an idiot, a cheapskate, mean, a liar, a cheater or a deadbeat either. But he must be cute. I know I love tall men. I tried giving the short dude a chance. I found myself not being attracted to him. It felt funny and had the wandering eye when we were out. Every attractive tall guy was appealing to me. I have found there are not enough tall attractive men here. If ther are cute in the face they are usually midgets! And the tall ones look like mudducks! LOL Not all the time….but quite frequently. I think it’s heavens way of punishing me! LOL (j/k)

Again, nope. I don’t believe in getting fisticuff-physical with a female, but if I put my trust in her and she repaid me with a case of nonreturnable herpes, HIV, or the like, then yes I may very well snap and kick the shyt outta that azz.

I guess because I came up in a time where whatever you did, you were held accountable. If you messed up at school or in the house, there was going to be an azz whoopin’, punishment, something. If you did something foul outside, there was 90% chance that there was gon’ be a fight about it.

But believe me, our society is going through a correction. The rules are changing. When economic health is not well, acceptance diminishes as well.

Look at the new Stand Your Ground and Concealed Carry laws. And now that people are losing their jobs all over the place, there is going to be a lot of sympathy coming from the jury box and the judges bench towards a person who is being wronged by some knucklehead.

It’s all history. Ask anybody that was around from the 30’s to the 80’s. Azzkickin’ was a way of life in America b/c times were hard.

Morning folks!

Nothing much to add on this topic, I agree with most of the other fellas. Physical beauty is the initial attraction, inner beauty is what upgrades a lady and is what will keep a dude around.

One thing I’ve noticed with some very physically attractive women that are not that aren’t that attractive on the inside is over time as their physical beauty fades their inner beauty tends to grow. I call it “when the azz goes, the bad attitude goes with it”.

By Le Siren

February 12, 2009 11:08 AM | Link to this

Inner beauty is most definitely an important quality for a man to have in my opinion, however, outer beauty also holds a good deal of weight. It’s not about being shallow, it’s simply biological. Scientists have done entire studies that basically tell us why we are attracted to certain people. “Beauty” has alot to do with facial symmetry in both men and women along with a strong, masculine body type for men and a feminine, curvy body type for women. We don’t appreciate these attributes just for the hell of it. These things subconsciously signal that a potential mate has good genes and will be a good provider (men) or mother (women).

Off Topic question/comment to the Blog

There is a lady that sits near me. She’s a great friend & coworker. But I hate going to lunch with her because it never fails - she ALWAYS gets in a dispute with the waitstaff/manager/etc about SOMETHING! Of course if the service or food is really bad and you’re spending your money you should bring it to someones attention. But dang, its always something with her and she has a bad attitude. This didn’t have enough seasoning on it, this is not hot enough, this tea is not sweet enough, I mean even if we go thru McDonalds drive thru she has an issue! I sometimes worry that the waitstaff might take it out on my food too, when I’m with her since she’s so mean when she complains. And right now I hear her yelling at someone on the phone about one of her bills. Something is always wrong and she always in a dispute with her creditors, the bank, her dentist & dr, you name it!

I avoid going to lunch with her most of the time because its just stressful.

Yall know folks like that?

Hadn’t thought of that but you’re right. Juries and judges, law enforcement too, are more sympathetic to ppl that are victims or would be victims of fools in hardtimes and azz whippins are generally more acceptable.

Look at those two cases in the A last week…the lady that stabbed the guy in the chest, that broke in to her home, killing him. Police didn’t even take the whole day to look in to that one before ruling it self defense and closing the case.

And the guy that was shot by an attacker, then fought with him taking the gun then shooting and killing him. The police ruled that justifiable even though they said the guy knew his attacker. Usually that calls for an indepth investigation but not in this case. They ruled it justifiable and then called it a day.

The most pyhsically attractive woman I’ve ever dated was not that hot. She submitted and was bi-sexual(a favorite trait) but she just didnt have that umph in her.

I know this to be true..and it is ridiculous…in fact, one of the chicks commented on the fact that I did not receive anything from my then involved interest, Mark…to which I replied…”I do not live where I work, so if someone wants to send me something then it needs to be sent to where I live…otherwise, it might wind up in the trash because I ain’t lugging no extra shyte home on MARTA buses and trains”…lol…their looks in response were priceless examples of pure stupidity in a facial expression…lmoa thinking about it now.

Sure some may keep one of the dried up flowers as a keepsake. ATLborn Hey! I’ve heard that the Pro Bowl is going to be in the SB city on a rotational basis. Probably to avoid those cold cities. But when its on a rotational basis, are they going to have it the week after the SB? Who knows? I think they are just doing this to get Hawaii to build an adequate stadium - either that or they didn’t think that through.

kimmie I know folks like that and I don’t go out to eat with them. I do have one friend that I love dearly that’s like that and she knows how I feel about it. When we go out to eat I let her pick and let her know I’m not in the mood for her antics - she’s usually mild-mannered when we go out.

Flowers are nice to receive…any time when the sentiments that they convey are genuinely meant and mutually received…otherwise, it is hogwash…I once had a guy spend approx. $50 on some long stem red roses as a means of conveying his attraction to me as well as his intended affection…both of which I told him in an earlier conversations was not something I could, would or intended to reciprocate…so upon receiving them I had no real sense of pleasure…and the sad part is that he was struggling to put himself through school…first generation from rural poverty to get into college…a nice person, not of my interest…I would have preferred that he spent that money on something more substantial towards his educational expenses…interestingly enough, the most beautiful and appreciated rose I ever received, and still remember, is the one that Rogelio made for me out of an oragami style gold cigarette pack wrap…lol…he hand formed the flower from the paper and gave it to me to remember him and that night…funny, it was the only flower he could afford at the time…wow, was he 18 months of a fun adventure from that night forward.

For those that wondered where that TARP maoney went. Take a peek. This is from Fortune Magazine. Folks we’re screwed and they didnt even take us out for ameal.

Meanwhile, the government’s first effort at righting the financial problems - the Bush administration’s Troubled Asset Relief Program, which pledged some $350 billion to banks and other big companies starting in October - has been criticized as a giveaway to well-connected financial interests.

They’re taking money out of your pocket and giving it to their fiends, and you have to pay the bill.

For Real man, at this point I’d be happy with a chick making me breakfast and telling me how much she loves my awesome lovemaking. (All she has to do is read from the cue cards I’ve prepared for her) Really, this thing is not that serious. What you got planned for your harem?

Tazzee - Okay that would be good then, so long as the rotational years skip those cold weather cities.

I dunno if they are doing that to get Hawaii to build a new stadium. The NFL has caught flack from announcers and fans for years for having the crappiest All Star game. Which seems as if it can’t be avoided, u definitely can’t have it during the middle of the season cuz no teams would allow their players to play and risk even the smallest injury. Folks have cried for years it needs to be played the week before the SB so it can be a part of SB week in the host city.

I don’t care as much for the week before the SB cuz then you won’t have the stars from the SB teams playing in the game. U can have a boatload of stars missing the game cuz of that.

It always seems the most attractive women are not so beautiful “underneath” and not so attractive women are wonderful women.

Atltwen, that’s a fair and accurate assesment. Beautiful women don’t have to be pretty on the inside, because they’ll get what they want simply for their beauty. Not to say this is true for all women, but it’s a fact that the beautiful people simply don’t have to work as hard.

If you want both, find the girl that was the ugly duckling growing up. She’ll have a good attitude, but be physically appealing on the outside.

    Hey everybody…

On Topic …yes, of course I’m a lot more interested in who the man really is, without all the extra personal affects. I’m also moreso interested in how well he takes care of himself, versus how he dresses, what type of job he has and the year/make/model of his ride.

I’ve often found that I tend to ignore the “beautiful people” so to speak…but usually this happens if I begin to realize, that they want YOU to notice. They get enough airplay as it is.

But on the other hand, I don’t know which one gets under my skin more…the physically attractive folks who campaign too hard or the not so physically attractive folks who campaign too hard.

I think the common denominator is that these types just campaign too hard, period.

For there is nothing wrong with wanting to look our very best. But from what I’ve observed, they’re “spotlight(s)” tend to shine brighter, when they combine their physical qualities (whether they are blessed with an abundance or very little) with a sensible portion of some good ‘ol humble pie.

It is only then, that I find myself coming back for seconds and wanting to LEARN more about the individual.

I am more prone to be interested in a person who conveys a sense of self-actualized comfortableness about himself, has great conversational skills to articulate his thoughts and feelings, can throw in some good humor…simple and significant things that convey volumes about how life in middle-aged has evolved in mature, mellowed, grounded person…but he still gotta cook as well as me, love to style and enjoy hopping out to socialize…otherwise he will still get left alone…lol…oh yeah, still need to wear a decent shoe size too…I am a nut….somebody make some peanutbutter…lol

ATL part of the reason the NFL has the crappiest all-star game is they’ve taken all the fun out. The only events I could find on NFL.com was a party the night before ($200 pp), the tailgate ($200pp) and the game. We had to look at a Hawaii newspaper to find out about the other activities and they weren’t great either. As a matter of fact, when I mentioned them to one of the Falcons at the hotel, he didn’t even know the events were going on. Maybe they’ll bring back the skills challenges next year because I would have liked to see the fastest man, alumni game, etc.

On V-day - perhaps I’m the minority, but I like the day. When I’m in a relationship I like sending stuff to my man’s job. I like getting dressed up to go out for a nice dinner. And yes, I believe in doing that stuff year round. I also enjoy giving gifts on Christmas day and having/attending a bigger party on Super Bowl Sunday than I would on a normal football Sunday.

If you didn’t know, Hawaii actually pays the NFL to have the probowl there. The agreement has ended. So, the NFL is really holding this event over the state government for more money. A new stadium would probably be preferred as well, but the NFL is only there one week out of the year. What would the stadium be used for the other 51 weeks. The University of Hawaii doesn’t sell out the current stadium.

So, during this economy, the NFL is playing the squeeze game with the state for more money. Las Vegas is interested in holding it. However, I don’t see that happening anytime soon.

The fact is that we do live in a very superficial, shallow-sexually minded society; just look at every ad through the media: it’s all sexual (sensual is a whole different matter) and focused only on the external. Young and middle aged men and women (not to mention teens)feel they have to compete with all this when they are compared with that “hot chick” or “hunk” on TV or in the magazine cover and ads within that look nothing like them. Both TV and radio are not helping to boost self-esteem either. These poor people are feeling totally left out, outcast and unappreciated for who they really are in the inside, versus the external. Sad to say, because these matters become issues that have also contributed to destroyed relationships and countless marriages that have not focused on the person they claim to have loved, and then begin to go after a fantasy or something else to satisfy their stupid, immature desires, instead of appreceating what and who they already have. This proves once again how demoralized our society has become.

Most men don’t give 2 sh!ts about inner beauty, which is why most hot women are insufferable b!tches.

They know they can get away with it, as these men will put up with anything to “be seen” with such a woman.

    Unfortunate, but true.

PoppaG So Goodell’s comments about the safety of the stadium was just a smoke screen? I think I read that Hawaii pays the NFL about $4 million - which is a VERY small fraction of what they make. I still think they need a new stadium. The sound system was horrible, the seats and stairs were pretty rusty. But I’d still go back.

It’ll be interesting to see how it plays out in Miami next year.

I wouldn’t say that it is a total smoke screen, but I don’t think that it is at the top of the list.

NFL is looking for more money. especially since probowl is more like a paid vacation. NFL may be spending more than 4 million since travel costs, food, etc. have gone up dramatically in recent years. Economy is hurting the league, just like every other sport.

Hawaii is hesitant about committing big buck into a stadium right now. So, we’ll see.

Free agency will be interesting. I’m hearing the Falcons are looking a Titans defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth. (He is the guy that step on a Dallas Players face a couple of years ago). He is pretty good though. I think that Tampa Wants him, too. Falcons are probably looking at D-Line and tight end. DE Jamaal Anderson might be out of the door, too. Abe needs help.

I am not a Falcon fan, but I generally agree with you. However, I think that Arthur Blank finally got it right with the new GM and new coach. They are football people and not big names. In the past, it seems that they would just go after big names (C. Bennett, Eric Dickerson, Darryl. Talley. etc) but they would be just past their prime.

They spent big bucks on Michael Turner and he held up pretty well. The football people realized that MT didn’t have much wear and tear sitting being Ladanian Tomlinson in SD. So, it was a better risk than some of their other risks.

I think that Atlanta may be poised to get that infamous back to back winning season thing off their back this year. They only have to win 9 to accomplish that.

I am not so certain that Peerless was the problem. You guys were just about ready to get rid of Mike Jenkins and Roddy White until the QB changed. Roddy started show signs of life after Vick was gone.

I personally think that Vick was the problem. I don’t have a Vick hate issue. I loved watching him play, but I can see how that unpredictability can affect a receiver in the passing game. When the ball isn’t where it is supposed to be when it supposed to be there that can cause problems for everybody from the linemen, who can’t see behind them and end up getting holding penalties when the play changes direction behind them to receivers who have to cut off routes to become blockers.

What did he have to work with in Buffalo? A garbage QB there. He produced with Drew Bledsoe as his QB in Buffalo prior to the ATL.

Now, I agree that he wasn’t #1 material but he could catch prior to and after his stint in Atlanta. He couldn’t catch a cold here.

Peerless wasn’t drafted by ATL. He was drafted by Buffalo. He came to Atlanta in a trade that left ATL w/o a first rounder the next year. It is the perfect example of what I was talking about. Arthur Blank was involved and wanted to make a big splash instead of making a sound football decision.

Does inner beauty matter. Only if you want more than a superficial sexual relationship over time. I have seen some beautiful women who suddenly became not so attractive when they opened their mouth to talk or showed their lack of character and class in how they related to others.

On the other hand I have found women that I had to give a second look and longer when I found out how warm, affectionate, and compassionate they are.

An ugly soul can make a physically beautiful look ugly in a heartbeat. Conversely, a plain looking woman can become a beautiful woman to accompany when her inner beauty shines through.

My experience is that extremely good looking women are used to the attention and the perks that come with it. They have an aire of entitlement to that type of behavior from men and that is a turnoff. Often they are attracted to the men that ignor them, if they are not to insecure to risk rejection.

I see most women these days as people and treat them as such. If I do not like them as a person then I do not make an effort to know them as a woman.

Anyway I still stand by him as an example because that entire decision was jacked; he wasn’t a #1 before he got here and wasn’t when he left. He produced in Buffalo because there was another threat on the other side of the field but our FO somehow decided he could be a #1 here.

I’m glad that we finally have a management team that realizes you need other pieces in place for a star to perform.

Price most def wasn’t a No. 1 and Blank did want to make a splash but don’t put all the blame on Vick. How you gonna call a play for the QB to run 40 yards as fast as he can and then turn around and ask him to deliver a strike? And don’t get me started on why QB can’t take 3 step drop without getting sacked but I think the problem with the WR and Vick was trust and Vick didn’t go out of his way to build any.

    For Real

It wasn’t all Vick’s fault, but he didn’t help himself out. Put a little touch on your passes.

He had no control over his height. He is short (5’11”) for a QB. Many linemen are over 6’ tall. Three step drops can be an issue if you can see over your linemen. Five step drop would have been better for him to see, but that means that the line would have to protect longer. As a result, he did a lot of bootlegs.

I’ve also heard that Vick didn’t do a lot of film study to read defenses. I’ve heard this from multiple sources all over. Part of what makes QBs good is recognizing formations and that comes from film study. Once you recognize formations then you can audible to better plays. On the other hand, Knapp didn’t let him audible much. So, it was a combination.

Greg Knapp is garbage as a playcaller. Seattle will love him…lol. He is the new OC for the Seahawks.

    Melo

Peerless is retired. He lives here in Sugarloaf area like many football players do.

Yeah, Vick would still be the QB here if not for the dogfighting. No one wants that contract that he had. That contract is the only reason that he is still on the roster.

More time with the young receivers would have been helpful for both parties.

PoppaG Vick did what he was brought here to do, so like For Real said - we can’t blame him totally. That’s still on the management. Don’t get me started on the domino effect of boneheaded moves made around Vick. I NEVER thought they should have given him that huge contract because they didn’t have the $$$ to put the proper folks around him. We got rid of Reeves….yeah, I could go on and on. And why do you think Finneran and Alge could handle Vick’s passes but others couldn’t? There weren’t nearly as many drops during Vick’s first year as a starter. Was it the O-line, the playcalling, or Vick?

I think the common denominator in all of this was the front office and their boneheaded decisions.

vick never had an offense geared for him…at 6 feet dude should have more shotgun sets like brett favre had in his slower years…like marino had..for some reason his coachs were hell bent on him under center….marino and favre set records out of the gun…another thing they gave him an offense that takes three years to learn…that does not work…look at jason campbell and jamarcus russell…give the dude plays he can run…look football is still football with all the tricks….you still cant stop the slant or dig route even if you know its coming….you cant stop the double post play ran to one side..safety either has to go high or low…during the vick years roddy white was not serious about football..he said so himself…he was not eating right or studying…so he is part to blame…its not all VICKS fault

Me too…everybody is the same…if I need something and a person can not accommodate it, then fine…you can not expect someone to just drop everything at a dime…it can not always happen…regardless of the relationship…so, if I need to have a ride and it is not possible for him to be able to do it…then so be it…you have to work with what ppl can do…not what you want them to do…and sometimes that is the SO…let’s say that he was in the middle of an important meeting and he could not get away…then what…start acting like a co-dependent bish and through a tude…not let him handle his business and I will handle mine…and catch up with him later…grow up.

    I never blamed him totally.

The front office was not the common denominator. Blank bought the team after Vick was here. The Smith family got Reeves here. Vick’s first year was under the Reeves and the Smith family. Reeves wasn’t Blanks hire and eventually an owner is gonna want his own people.

He wasn’t the sole problem, but he was part of it. The QB touches the ball on every play. He got the glory went things went well, he gets the blame when things don’t. That comes with playing QB.

Alge and Vick came into the league (drafted in the same draft) together so that probably had knew a each other better. ( creating Chemistry) Finneran, too, was here longer and got to know Vick better (without the scrutiny & pressure that Peerless had).

I can’t fault him for taking that money. He couldn’t take what wasn’t offered.

The fact that Vick carried the team as much as he did speaks to his ability. You saw what he meant to that team when he broke is leg in 2004. But, he still had much to work on to be the dual threat QB that he really had potential to be. I hoped that he wouldn’t do like McNabb and stop running totally.

    its not all VICKS fault

I never said that it was all his fault. I said that he didn’t help himself. As QB, he gets the glory when things went well, and he gets the blame when they don’t. It is a fact of football. Those that can’t handle that, don’t need to play QB. It is a pressure filled position because they touch the ball just about every play.

As far as the dog stuff, he had the money to buy land in Mexico. he could have done it down there. It was legal there. I’m not even judging his playing with that.

PoppaG I think the front office was the common denominator during the sucky years. For some reason, I believe that Reeves would have done much better with Vick. I think Vick respected Reeves, but I don’t have the inside track that you do.

I blame Blank - I know his heart was in the right place but his decision making sucked. His team gave Vick that big contract, got rid of Reeves and brought in Mora. I think Rich McKay is a great person, but I don’t think he has what it takes to run an organization.

Oh and let the record show - I am not a big Vick fan, not at all, but I think too much blame was placed on him when the team imploded and everyone looked at Blank as the victim. Blank made that bed. But I think he learned his lesson so I forgive him.

No he didn’t. I see no Vince Lombardi trophies here.

If he was just brought to sell tickets, then that was the wrong reason to bring him in. It is not fair to the fans. It is one the reasons that I have a hard time rooting for the Falcons. They have seemed to lack commitment to winning. He may have been brought here to sell tickets. But there are no championships. For that kind of money, there should have at least been one parade down Peachtree.

I am a native and that is a problem with many of our sports teams. In 1991, we had a freaking parade for the Braves PARTICIPATING in a World Series. They did NOT win. Who gets a parade for losing? ATL. We settle for less.

I have the same feeling that Reeves may have done better. There definitely was difference in respect. If you look back to his interviews…He called Reeves “Coach Reeves”, but he called Mora.. “Jim”. You’d never hear any of Parcells players call him “Bill”. Jim Mora didn’t demand respect, and it showed on the field. They made critical mistakes at critical times. Then, ultimately, the team quit on Mora after the University of Washington fiasco.

However, it doesn’t give Vick a free pass. He is a grown man.

QBs are looked to as leaders. He was a something that neither Marino nor Montana were, which was a number 1 pick. So, he was gonna get the pressure of being looked at as a leader. With that comes glory and blame. Is it fair? Of course not.

    But life isn’t fair.

that kind of money came after he was brought here (boneheaded decision). All I’m saying is that Vick was drafted because he was a playmaker - mainly with his legs. He did that - he made plays out of no plays.

And I think part of the reason he got that big contract was to sell tickets. I’m sure Blank wanted a Lombardi too, but it was a fan sell - ‘we got Vick for 10 years!’ Folks flocked to buy those cheap tickets, LOL.

Yes, it’s the wrong reason. Similar to the Hawks promoting the fact that they had famous folks at the games when the team sucked to sell tickets. I wanted to go to the games to see a decent product on the court - not to see Luda in the front row.

If you win championships, surprise, selling tickets becomes so much easier. Ask Tampa how much easier it was to sell tickets after a championship.

The Hawks promoted other players because they didn’t have anything better to promote. That playoff guarantee didn’t work, either.

day late and $1 short … of course it counts. in fact, this is current situation. my sweetie is not someone i would have given a second look — physically speaking.

but he has inner beauty in spades. i respected and loved him before we crossed over from friends to, uh, “special friends.” but if he wasn’t who he is on the inside, i would not be with him right now.
