Yes We Can….DATE?

I can’t believe this time next Tuesday, the world will witness President Elect Obama taking the oath of office! I can’t help but wonder how an Obama presidency will impact dating. Maybe some of you have thought about this already, but do you think the Obamas will raise the profile for black marriages and family in a positive way?

I can recall reading the Washington Post article, Marriage is for White People. I remember feeling so melancholy as I read about the declining rate of marriage among blacks.

This trend hit me directly, especially as a woman of color who considered marriage as a realistic goal. Women like me were faced with the “realities” of the current state of dating and marriage. Would this lead to us dating outside our race? I have seen a few friends take this route and they seem very happy about it. It’s not without its problems, of course, but what relationship is?

I have dated outside my race before and I am comfortable with the idea of doing it again if the right guy came along. Since Barack Obama is the product of an interracial couple, do you think more single people would be willing to explore it?

Before I became friends with my buddy Panama, I believed the many stereotypes about mixed race children. Panama is brilliant, talented, and one of the kindest guys I know. Between Panama and Obama, I figure I have pretty great role models if I ever had a child with someone outside my race.

Have you ever dated someone who was biracial? Did they change your perspective?

Panama once posed the question: What changes do you think an Obama presidency will bring to our courting, dating, marriage and relationship dynamics? What are your thoughts?

P.S. Is anyone traveling to D.C. next week?

Happy Friday!!

As a woman who is only 1/4 black, however who is also an avid advocate for black love, I hope that the Obamas revive this society’s faith in happy successful black marriages. And I too hope that the existence of Barry Obama as chief open the minds of many to explore interracial relationships. I personally promote interracial because it is the source of my existence.

In all my days I have never been told, at least to my face that ‘you ain’t even black’ until I stumbled onto this site. Hell what counts as being black? Is it the color of your skin? Heck there are 54 shades and combinations of black skin just in the metropolitan Atlanta. So who is to say who is and/or who is not? Is it the way you talk? Walk? Think??? I think therefore I am??? Hmm?

I am because I say I am. Period. Now shut up about it. I love everybody. All races. Never had an issue with dating any man of any nationality. Heck I feared being married to a military veteran. But never a man of a different race.

Yall do know I am just rambling on right? But what you are reading are my true sentiments.

50% Hispanic, 25% Black Euro, 25% White Euro = Raqi and her three siblings. The Hispanic Black combination blessed me with my beautiful skin tone. 25%/25% Euro mix blessed me with my chic sense of style and also my 5’6” frame. (Not really but my grandmother and mother were some well put together women and they both were considered taller than the average American woman in their time) 50% Hispanic provided me with the hint of foreign accent that I don’t recognize myself but others do. My spiciness, determination and mental mechanics come from my father. My elegance and sharp tongueness are a blessing from my mother.

And I could go on but I wont…I just love everybody. So yes date, mate and exhilarate your mind.

Go Obama.

I am a white guy and I have, am, and should continue to date outside my race. But, not because we will soon have a president that is half white and half black. I do it because it is what I want to do. I don’t care if the president is bi, tri, or uni racial. I do it because I want to.

I guess my point is people are gonna do what they’re gonna do. But, it just might help with people that are undecided or whatever.

Good morning. Personally, I hope these young men look to Obama as a role mode (if they don’t already have one) on how to treat a woman, how to carry themselves and more importantly how to dress. Enuf w/the sagging pants.

Happy Friday everyone. This week did move by quickly.

I do see the Obamas as role models. Folks would argue that Cliff and Claire aren’t real, so I love the example Barack and Michelle set. Barack Obama is totally the type of guy I’d be attracted to while the rest of the ladies were off trying to snag a “bad boy”

Would I date outside my race? Sure. I don’t go actively looking outside, but if the ideal opportunity presented himself, I’d be a fool to throw it away just because he’s not black.

hope these young men look to Obama as a role mode

Leggs it is a shame if only that will make the young men and women too, want to do better, but I guess we have to take what we can get. The thing about the Obamas is we really don’t know the inner workings of their relationship. Michelle can stand before the nation and proclaim the undying love of Barry and her marriage and the black angels will sing. But sadly the average Jane Doe (me and the like) can proclaim the same and get heckled and side eyed by many. If Mr. Barak Obama had never become president elect would his relationship with his wife and family matter. To most, no. He would be, just like he was before being senator and before November 2008, a common black man married to a common black woman trying to make this thing work.

I wish them all the best. More of us need to step up and have that love that we “hear” that they share.

Now for all that say that they don’t know of a happily marriage black couple, there you go…The President of The United States of America. Copy him.

I am sorry but I really am hard pressed to see what the hell Obama becoming president has anything to do with black or white marriages. So to answer the question..no I have not thought about Obama and black marriages. Frankly, I am more concern with what the hell happen to the first 350 billion dollars..where was the oversight promised and why are we releasing the other 350 billion and for what? I personally feel our country is in the shape it is in because people are more concern with the RockStar status of our elected officials and less about what they were actually hired(it is a job by the way and right now there are many of American with out jobs)to do. So frankly I could care less if Obama was red with pink polka dots. It is time to go to work.

Now as a child of the south I really do believe alot of the sterotypes about mixed race kids because I have seen it in action. White and Light is alright..Dark or Black get back and we still have our own paper bag test today. We don’t like to say so but we do. And before our progressive Northern or Western Americans start telling us of how great racial relations are up and out there need I remind you of the ethinic sterotypes that exist out West and Up North.

We may have come along way baby but we still have a long way to go.

Since Barack Obama is the product of an interracial couple, do you think more single people would be willing to explore it?

Nah, I don’t know about that. His dad only saw him a couple of times his whole life. Obama was the product of interracial sex, but not couple. I hope that part of it doesn’t catch on. Woo the girl, get her pregnant, run…oh wait…folks are already doing that. LOL!

Personally, a bolt of electricity ran through me on the night of the election when I saw Barack and Michelle on stage together with their children. I love the picture of a strong, beautiful black family. I’m sure they have their problems like everyone else, but to continue to build a family and strive for such heights is quite lovely to behold.

Have you ever dated someone who was biracial? Did they change your perspective?

Yes, he was Black-Puerto Rican. I didn’t see much difference, it was just like dating an all-black dude.

I did go out with a white man a few times. He was the type that only dated black women though, so he had plenty of experience dating interracially. Me, not so much. Frankly, there was nothing wrong with him, he was a really good catch. But we didn’t have a natural flow, plus I think that I couldn’t get the image of the black family out of my mind to really concentrate on him. I would have loved for him to have stayed my friend, but when I told him that I didn’t think it would work out, he basically told me to kick rocks.

Barak is a product of his parents. Both of them. We are all products for our parents. It is something that they did or did not do that paved the foundation whereupon we stand. Whether present or absentee it plays a role in our being. Barry obviously is well put together as a man. I haven’t yet read too much about his childhood, but whatever it may have been got him to where he is now. His mother and grandmother did a good job. His father not being there could be seen as a positive as he has turned out to be. Sometimes a person not being in our lives can be just as beneficial as the one who is.

Rell I stressed that on purpose because I am a black woman. My DNA breakdown may only read 25% but heck I am black. Any amount of black makes you black. Especially when it is in your mother.

And the military thing?? When I was younger one of the kids that I played with in the neighborhood had a grandfather that was shell shocked. To us he was the crazy old man because of the stories that we heard about how he acted. He used to think people were after him and he would wake up in the middle thinking he was still in the war. When I would go to their house he would be sitting in a dark room and you could hear him talking. Scared me. Every since then I have feared getting with one. Never gave one a chance or known one personally outside of him. So I still have that little fear inside.

I didn’t give props to either one of them individually. But you seem to single out black women as the ones who make or break the relationship, and you’re very passionate about it. Morning folks!

Headed to DC next week. Today has certainly prepped me for the cold!

I’ve never dated anyone that was first generation bi-racial - if that makes sense. Never dated outside my race. That’s not to say I wouldn’t do it, just never have. I’m not actively looking to date outside my race, but if I vibed with someone that doesn’t have parents that look like mine, I wouldn’t use that against them.

Personally, I’m excited about Michelle Obama changing the image of Black Women overseas. I haven’t traveled overseas since the Obamas came on the scene tough, but I could already see a difference when communicating with some co-workers in other countries during the campaign. I think people in other countries are more excited about this moment than here in the US.

Foots you hear a lot of that among black men. And the ones that I have spoken and inquired about personally were all guilty of the same offense, expecting the woman to look the other way and put up with whatever they felt the could put before her. And it was always what she wouldn’t do for him.

I have asked a few of them, do you make it possible for these women to live to your standards? Are you being realistic in the standards you are expecting of them? Are you living right in the relationship? Are you aware that women are not secondhand citizens in your world of misconceptions? Those are some of the questions I have asked them.

I wldnt and will not contemplate interracial marriage.I luv black on black.Like Rell said the other day, black guys always seem to settle for the chaff.I have yet to see a black dude with a white, hot chic that wld make the white guys really jealous. As for Obama/Michelle hopefully inspiring other blacks to get married, i sure hope and pray it does coz black pudsy has become much more common than oxygen. Its time black folks re-evaluated their loose ways so we can do away with these b*tard kids, crime and reduce the jail popn. Its all related and its a shame.I also pray that Obama’s presidency is spared of the drama and corruption that follows other high profile black leaders like Kwame and Bill Campbell,to name a few.If he comes out unscathed, i think that will go a long way in ensuring that there is equity, fairness and rationality in the way america chooses its reps, going forward, and not necessarily race.America must lead in that regard.

I have to respectfully, but passionately disagree with this statement. The continuation in the belief of the “one drop rule” in 2009 is ridiculous! This rule stems directly from slavery as a method to keep as many people under the yolk of slavery as possible. In today’s society, it is totally unnecessary and disrespectful to only acknowledge one’s black ancestry while downplaying any other. While you may identify culturally with the black race, the fact remains that you are multiracial and should claim to be so.

Morning Blog Fam & Happy Friday!

Bottom line, Barack & Michelle & their family set a beautiful example for the entire nation, whatever the ethnicity. Yes, I’ve heard a few black boys & men say they look to him as an example of what to strive for & will consider pulling up their pants. It’s cool to be smart now - that’s the IN thing, according to some popular mags I’ve read. From what a lot of teacher, social workers and folks in the legal system I know tell me, we need ALL the help we can get. No it’s not a shame that they look to Barack as an example now! I saw this video online of these white school kids, middle school in Philly, that saw Barack getting out of his limo a few days after the election. They went buck wild and were reaching through the school fence to shake his hand. I saw the excitement of those beautiful black kids from ATL at Ron Clark Academy when they found out they get to perform at some inaugural events. Clean, well-spoken kids. No they were not freaking over some rapper or athlete, but the Prez of the US! If he has a positive effect on just 10 kids it will be well worth it!

I don’t know what effect it will have on marriage and dating. Wise I did hear about another study that was taken that said through 2007 there has been an UPSWING of black kids raised in 2-parent homes. The study did take into account couples that live together but not married though.

I’ve tried to date outside my race. I have nothing against it and if things had not worked out with my SO, I was definitely about to explore it again, to widen my options. I’m just really attracted to black american men! I have a point of reference to them. I love black american men - their look, their swag, their presence, their spirit. Whatever their shade, style - they are just beautiful to me.

Amred - Never liked the bad boys. Some were cool to look at & be friends with, but that’s all. Always went for the nerdier types - mine were cute & intelligent! That’s what I’ve got now! At least I’m consistent!LOL

leSiren great history point, but someone identifying themselves as ‘black’ has nothing to do with them discounting their other heritages. black culture is so strong it usually trumps the other ethnicities…. i have a good friend who has blogged on this and makes a reasonable point: he calls himself ‘black’ bec it puts ppl on notice on how to deal with him… ppl are less likely to assume the wrong thing and plow forward with their agenda. by saying he’s black ppl do as they ought to with everyone and proceed cautiously, feelin him out and respecting his boundaries. While I love Obama and feels he a stand up citizen, the direction taken my our country, his representation of being a man of honor and the most recent turn of events, Obama is a man and human like you and I. Same weaknesses, failures, aspirations, dreams, ups and downs. That’s the problem today. We set people on a pinnacle when that’s nonexistence when it comes to human beings. The first time he slips, we’re all going to be disppointed. Why? He’s humam. Why would I look to him when our struggle is the same? Guess it depends on what you believe the struggle pertains.

I am black because I say that I am.

Ok, well we could all say that we are a myriad of things, but that doesn’t mean that we are. For instance, my ethnic background is black (father) and native american, irish, french creole (mother). How much sense would it make for me to just pick one of those races and say “I’m Irish because I say I am”? People would look at me sideways because obviously there is much more to me than that! In your case, I’m sure that it is obvious by your appearance that you are mixed, so why are you denying it?

ROTFLMBO This is first time in my 40+ years that I have every known anyone to be ridiculed for claiming black instead of any other “drop” of nationality that runs thru their veins.

Growing up I heard a lot of kids claim to be mixed or have Indian in their blood in an attempt to not be fully black. This one girl claimed to be mixed because her great mother’s mother was half white. LOL

I say that I am black and I get chastised. A new day has surely dawned.

Look I know the make up of my being. I know what is on my birth certificate, my license and what I have to put on any legal binding document.

But I tell you that I am black. So let me be black. My parents never gave me any grief over it. Especially my dad and he is full hispanic. If he accepts that I embrace my blackness…

Now Go Obama.

will barack and michelle change black relationships? i don’t think so. those who were inclined to get shackled will still do so. those who aren’t won’t. still it’s nice to see.

now, if by “dated” you mean “had fun while naked” then yes, i have dated someone biracial. but he had a black cultural orientation, so it wasn’t all that different. i could just run my fingers through his hair without getting ‘em stuck.

i don’t date interracially though. i think that’s due more to opportunity than interest. since i left NY, it’s been harder to find non-black men of color to date …not that looked all that hard (i would only date a foreign white guy. not an american one.).

I’m sorry if you feel like you’re being ridiculed. When I refer to the belief in “one droppism” I’m not talking about people whose great, great grandmother was native american and everyone since then has been black. I’m speaking for people with backgrounds similar to ours being forced by american society to only claim to be one race! I’m very proud of my black heritage, but I’m equally as proud to claim ALL of my other blood as well and I refuse to be categorized by people who are uncomfortable with that.

I am sorry but I really am hard pressed to see what the hell Obama becoming president has anything to do with black or white marriages.

Well, I have. To some extent, they are a high profile example that the Heathcliff and Claire do exist. I remember back in the day, people called the Cosby show unrealistic. Two professional successful black people coming together to procreate AND raise a family together. There was much debate back in the day that it wasn’t realistic at all.

Unfortunately, I see very few shows on network TV that even showcase family life anymore, let alone black families. Us Po’ Negroes (UPN) tried with show like All of Us, Everybody Hate Chris, Half & Half. However, ABC, CBS, NBC, & Fox family life is disappearing in general.

As far as the 350 billion goes, it is a valid concern. If you are so concerned, call AND write your US Rep and do the same to Isakson & Chambliss. If you do nothing, you don’t really have any right to complain. I already have John Lewis’s office and the other two.

Morning folks.

Never has there been a topic where so many thoughts rushed me at once, both pro and con. Where do I start?

While dating outside my race is an option, it’s not the option I’ll take. At the end of the day the unspoken bond you have with a sista is just to strong to not have. I say this knowing that the first 2 women I dated, and lost my virginity to, were white. Also, I have dated/slept with others since but for me its just not the same.

This weekend I was at the high museum seeing the terra cotta display and noticed the bruhs with caucasion women. It wasn’t that they had married the woman but they seemed to forget who they were. One cat was so far gone if you closed your eyes and listened to him he would have been Mr. Cleaver. Just not my thang. I STILL have friends that talk about wanting a caucasion woman for their reputed skills and submissiveness but I say that if you have the required strength ANY sista will submit just the same. And a sista’s sensual skills take a back seat to noone, if handled correctly.

While Barack has raised the bar on whats posssible the floor remains set at whats probable.

Rell because i see things a lil different when i out just doing mundane things like standing in line at kroger and i see a BLACK WOMEN dressing down her man in line like he is a child

But that’s you seeing something happen in Kroger. Until you know specific details about their home life, then you can’t speak to the dynamic of the couple. What if he had just called her a bytch before you came around the corner? Would that change your opinion to say that now, the black man is the cause of the demise of relationships if you saw him mistreat her? You never know, that may just be the dynamic of their relationship, and they tore each other’s clothes off when they got home.

Everybody can give examples of how one sex did the other sex wrong. But that’s not the point. It’s well known that men will sometimes put the blame on the women when things don’t work out and not take any personal responsibility for the outcome (think how Adam was so quick to blame Eve) and it’s just as well known that women will do the same. We all know of no-count men AND no-count women. But my question was, in your PERSONAL experience (not overhearing something while you’re out and about), have you always had a black woman who did you and the relationship a disservice? Your passion has to come from somewhere or from some type of mistreatment in your past for you to have such a negative view of black women. We know why Staceye feels the way she does about men, from her personal experience. But you can feel so passionately about something you’ve never experienced, just overheard in Kroger?

First of all, the terms “bast*” is not a good term that we (Americans) use to refer to chidren. When we use that word it is usually in the process of cuzzing your azz out.

Moreover, yes there are people who did not grow up with fathers because wedlock or infidility (s/p) but you can’t say or allude to because of their family situation they are or will become thugs and drug dealers.

Yah know, their are plenty of folk who come from two parent homes who are thugs/drug dealers too. Heck, their are PK’s who are pimps and the like.

So you are totally off base with that statement.

That’s like saying all Africans come to America to enslave American women and put them in a heiram (s/p).

I just fed up with hype damn the dumb shyt..get your tails to work.

First, he didn’t make the hype. Media did that. He could have said “yes, we can all day”, but if no one listened it wouldn’t matter. He is trying to lower expectations.

Second, this is a transition period. Things wouldn’t move any quicker if McCain won. There are things that have to be done before work can be done. Obama’s people have to be confirmed and Bush’s people have to leave. There is only one president at a time. It is just that Bush has worn out his welcome and people are trying to turn the page as soon as possible. Even the elephant people are ready for him to go. They like smaller government involvement in our lives, but under Bush, government actually grew in size.

As far as the promised oversight, lame duck Congress and Presidency has no accountability.

The fact that Obama has to be every AA childs role model is a problem. Role models should be someone you can actually see work, read father. Not some figure you see once a month. Because in our culture fathers are as rare as 100 carat diamonds we adopt anyone as a role model. Athletes, singers, actors. It’s a shame really because we put people on a pedestal and don’t know ish about them.

On Obama’s childhood: You won’t find much on it but alot of things didn’t add up. He went to the finest schools and got the best exposure possible for a kid that wasn’t wealthy. Your not getting to the white house coming out of SouthWest Dekalb HS, its just not happening. His education was paid for and directed by folks that knew what he was and who he was. That paper he wrote about being the president wasn’t a fluke, someone had talked with him. Someone told him of his royal bloodline at an early age.

This isn’t what you think it is.

Kym I open the paper this morning to see we have bailed out bank Of America and the markets rallied. Why? A larger percentage of our taxes will now go toward the payment of this debt and the coming inflation. The average mans wealth, whatever that may be, is being syphoned off and the markets rejoice. Wow, we really need more education about this monetary system.

Poppa spoke of Michelle’s virtues specifically. He did not attempt to tear down all other black women in the process of making a positive statement about her. There are MANY like her that have supported their families and kept the home life intact while their men chased dreams of a bigger and better life for the family. It’s a credit to the strength and supportive qualities of black women. I don’t think you see that.

It’s terrible that the examples of the black women you see are less than shining, but like you said, you chose your situations.

I’ve always been all for interracial dating — I’ve pretty much done the world tour (or at least tried to). Whether Obama being of mixed heritage will make people more apt to date outside their race, I don’t know, but I hope it at least makes people more accepting of it.

On a selfish note, I couldn’t be happier about Obama’s background — not only that he comes from black/white parents, but also that his father was an immigrant. Suits soon-to-be swiss miss & I to a T, and since we hope to have kids, he’s a perfect role model for our kids. So far he’s upheld that mantle quite honorably; I hope it continues.

I don’t think that his presidency will have much impact on dating and relationships. Those that are of the mindset to seek out meaningful relationships will. Those who want to be with multiple folks will keep right on trickin’ and pimpin’. Business as usual.

And with so many women constantly talking about how handsome he is, his swagger, throwing draws and saying how he could get it, he may end up being another Bill Clinton. Remember, Bill loved his wife too. sigh.

I think the Obamas will have impact on all marriages. The one thing no one can deny is that P.E Obama loves his family. If you don’t see that then you are one pent-up sad mitty ficky!!!

On race: It is imposible for a person to live a life that is all inclusive of their various DNA makeup. Especially when you that person must live in a culture that requires everyone to ID themselves. If you think you can without going insane then pass me the spliff because I want what you smoking. It must be my Indian side huh???

On the Independent thing: I still don’t understand why women think the deserve a cookie for taking care of themselves like adults are suppose to do. I hope the women who are holding this independent thing up like a badge of honor do pay attention to Michelle Obama. She is a good example of being all you can be without losing her feminism and self respect for a title on a song. Once again…. ADULTS ARE SUPPOSE TO TAKE CARE OF THEMSELVES!!! There is still no specifically defined oversight and accountability for the TARP funds. Congress acted irresponsibly in releasing the money without it, and Obama falls short of expectations in requesting it not only before he’s President, but without sufficient planning in that regard. So far, business as usual. We’ll all see what it looks like 100 days after Jan. 20.

Hopefully they’ll all show more foresight and responsibility with the $850+ billion ‘package’ that’s coming up.

* The average mans wealth, whatever that may be, is being syphoned off and the markets rejoice. Wow, we really need more education about this monetary system*

No, most of the people involved the market know the system. However, they like to know that someone is trying to help them. Bank of America bought up a lot of that bad debt in return for this money. I am not a fan of BOA, but a deal is a deal.

The markets rejoiced because many traders believe that this will keep BOA from going down. Citi isn’t looking very good right now. If Citicorp and BOA both faulter things wouldn’t be good.

If things aren’t good, then the Wall Street banker has to go home and tell his s/o. The s/o then doesn’t want to do the forbidden dance tonight. So, the markets are up because the bankers can go home and tell their s/o that someone is working on fixing their situation…and then ask for a lil bit of the good stuff. It gets back to azz….

For Real I don’t see why black men keeping giving women cookies for being independent either. I am writing a blog about that, and why it seems that black men are now writing and singing so many songs praising independence in women. I’ll send it to you when I’m done.

* I know all of that. I am all for the week of parties and balls and eating food on the American tax payers daime. (We are the ones footing the damn bill.) But when the last drop of wine has left the bottles. *

Not entirely true. The winning candidate has to do fundraising to pay for some of the inaugural activities.

Here is Georgia Sam Nunn and Arthur Blank were the biggers givers and fundraisers for the Inauguration week activities. So, some things are tax payer funded and others are secured through private donations.

On another note Isn’t it ironic that two people who couldn’t have any more different political opinions could come together and make a huge successful business like Home Depot.

Bernie Marcus is as conservative as they come. Arthur Blank is almost the exact opposite.

I think it shows that you need both to make the world go ‘round.

For Real It is imposible for a person to live a life that is all inclusive of their various DNA makeup. Especially when you that person must live in a culture that requires everyone to ID themselves.

I agree with this, or else I’m going to have to start claiming that Indian in my grandmother. LOL!

It is interesting though, that for centuries, many white people considered bi-racial children as black, but now that Barack is the Man, they would like to acknowledge the fact that he is half-white. Is that a testament to how far this country has come?

Well, if the paradigm of African American family life as portrayed by the Huxtables was unrealistic, then I guess I grew up in Neverland.

The existence of middle and upper-middle class African Americans is not new, but very much unknown…I suggest that ppl read “Aristocrats of Color”…it covers the history of AA’s from 1876 to 1930 who were contributors to the establishment and standards of AA’s class structure…and while sistergirl Michelle Obama will indeed increase the awareness of sophisticated and well-educated women of color to those who are unfamiliar with that fact…she is following in the footsteps of women like Phoeba A. Bass, the wife of Sen. Hiram Revels, the first AA to be elected to the US Senate…her social soirees were known for their unprecedented style and class…even by DC political standards…she was much envied for her ability to showcase the highest integrity and the true essence of African American women’s high moral rectitude and intelligence.

ABC not only is there no oversight on the TARP funds but on the Federal Reserve that created that bogus money. All federal agencies have some sort of oversight whether it be the FBI, CIA, NSA or any of the other alphabet organizations, except the Federal Reserve. They are accountable to absoutely no one in any shape or form. They say they need this to wage a war on inflation and have all barrels locked and cocked yet they’re the ones that create the money that causes inflation in the first place.

Rell what you’re referrring to is women that know the legal system backs them up hence they can say what they like without backlash. Still you have 2 options: A) walk away from that chick never to call her again and let her sort out her own miserable existence over the next 20 lonely years or B) go to her azz like you would a cat that tried to take your nuts in the exact same way. I think because so many of us have chosen A we now have a hoard of women that actually think they can say whatever they like. Growing up I saw too many chicks get slapped when a dude said hi and she acted like he was a piece of ish. And I’m talking straight jap slapped. It only happened once then those chicks got in touch with their inner nice woman. LOL

Our kids suffer from the same problem. nobody to check them until it turns into a federal case and 20 to life. We’re coming up short as a people.

Poppa I hope he enjoys that loving tonight because the wallop thats coming down the road is going to break all but the very strongest. The forbidden dance is going to be the last thing on anyones mind. All this throwing around money isn’t fixing the problem, which is you by the way. You need to go out and spend, spend, spend because you’re the only fuel for this engine. Consumers account for 2/3 of our economy so if you dont spend the government cant tax it and on and on. Do your part and call Mrs. PG and tell her the shopping spree starts tonight because its the patriotic thing to do. LOL

Btw, another great movie is Taken with Liam Nielsen. It was out a few months ago but it is good.

Ladies, I’m downloading little Miss Sunshine as we speak. I may be changing my name to gramps soon if what you say is true. We’ll see.

M’K I think that is all great..but what kills me with black folks..is that we are all ready to embrace change..to a point. There is this book “Our kind of people” that touches on the class system in the black community. There are still small factions where (no matter how much cash a person has) can not go. Old money negros do not mind taking cash for foundations from new money negros but err your kids can’t join certain organizations, or hang out together..nothing personal but you are not our kind of people.

@Kym

Yes, that fact of class distinction does exist…in fact, even in the book I referenced the majority of AA’s were referred to as the undifferentiated masses…totally a perjorative term…and in the ATL the caste system was based upon whether an AA was an Auburn Avenue Negro or a Dectur Street Negro…unfortunately, there may never be a mutual acceptance amongst our ppl across the chasm of class divide…internalized racism has rendered the effort at best futile and pervasive…but we can still attempt to reach out to one person at a time and learn the who of a person and not the what…otherwise, there is no hope for change within static interaction.

Angie everyhting you dont know about is out of your control, like men for you. The key in life is to learn as much as you can about everything. When you stop learning you die. our elected officials count on ignorant people like you that’ll vote someone in office and then let them run roughshod over you without a peep.

You think the apex of your life is when you become someones wife yet because your ignorant your not an asset but a liability, hence the reason your solo at this moment. A major problem with people nowadays is they keep doing the same old ish even though there’s new and better ways of doing it, if you just took the time to learn.

BTw, on my sad days I’m happier than your miserable azz. The things in life I want I either have or can get. You cant get the one thing you need in life to be whole. A man to validate your tired azz.

For Real thats the distractionary politics. Keep em looking at everything but the problem and you can get away with anything. First it was the cold war, then the war on crime, then the war on terrorism, always the racial war. Thing is the folks that profit from all of this don’t care if you’re black or white but only if you’re mega rich like they are.

I’m going to try this the next time I get in a relationship. When the chick starts tripping I’ll say “hold on” and go outside and break her car window. Then come in and tell her what happened and console her. distractions are a mf’er. LOL

Leggs you’re the one that jumped on that earlier comment I made. When I say strength I mean all the gears from A to Z. That may mean tearing that chicks azz out the frame. You ladies just want a wagon to jump on so anything anyone says that supports your cause you latch on too.

Funny that this is the topic today. I was having this exact same conversation with a friend of mines yesterday. My thoughts were OBAMA is an ideal well rounded and grounded person. He is extremely relatable on ANY level. He embodies everything ANY woman in her right mind is looking for. That could be, but I think that white people acknowledge him being 1/2 white because it makes them feel much more comfortable. That makes him less of a “threat” in their eyes. Whatever you consider the man to be, the FACT is that he is half black and half white. Neither one cancels out the other!

Kym the book to get is “The Creature From Jekyll Island**. Yes it is the Jekyll Island on the coast of Georgia and the creature that was created was the federal reserve. As someone stated Jekyll Island was at one time the playground of the worlds rich and powerful. I promise you’ll learn more about american history then you ever will in college. It’s a long book but if you can make it to page 3 you’ll be hooked like a crackhead. LOL

Btw, I put a friend on A New Earth and she’s hooked like crack. I told her the story about the monk carrying the woman over the puddle and she though t that was so interesting.

Blow a public education won’t prepare you for the types of situations you’ll be faced with in that position. And as important you need to know people that know people and for that you have to be around people that have power and can get ish done. Pookie at SW Dekalb ain’t getting it done.

Angie as long as I’ve been reading your posts you’ve had one constant theme, to get a man. You may venture off for a brief second like your hair tips today but your whole world revolves around trapping some cat into staying with your azz, and that is by all definitions pathetic.

There’s a whole world to explore but you stay on a raod that to this point hasnt born you much fruit at all. I’d say pick a different path but you dont have the heart to do that.

A good book for you is “Who moved My Cheese” very simple so you wont have to think to much but it packs a great message.

I’m currently reading the book “The Case Against The Fed” and then the House of Morgan (JP) is next. I’ve got to figure out a way to side step the next big crash, which is coming. I lost my shirt on this one but it wont happen again. There is a way to safeguard yourself and I have to find it.

Truth Yes and no. I mean the child intellect is not based on his school. That is a learned and sometimes a genetic trait. Although I agree…if I had a child they would not be attending..any ole hood school. Education would be priority and they would be in private or a very elite top notched…mixed make up of a public school. I agree with you are some senses. But a predominately black school is not the best thing to have a child go to PRE K-12…or even college. My first all black school was high school. But you need to have diversity and to be placed amongst a well mix pool of people. I saw the hood kids, the white kids gettin dropped off @ school in limos, going to see their huge mansions I am talkin about in the 80”s before the mortgage scandals…and then to Keisha house to eat a gubment cheese sammich. You have got to see it all.

The Truth all these rich folks arent about to stop or discredit capitalism. Its what they know and what made them to be in their safeguarded positions so they will safeguard it and pass it on to their kids.Hence the financial bailouts to the corpations on Wall street.Like u correctly say, safeguarding urself is key.See hw Robert,in that piece mentions the same I just want to know how to avoid becoming its victim.I see no reason to be a mouse trying to stop a herd of elephants from fighting Knowledge is Power. In a way, im lucky in that my 1st economics professor at undergrad was smewhat of a socialist. While he allowed us to read and express our opinions on capitalism, he made a good case of comparing the 2 sysytms, pros and cons. This is my 2nd recession since moving into the states and the de merits of capitalism have haunted me twice now.But i now know and appreciate the frequency co ive lived thru it.Now i can put my other finance hat on and navigate the protection of what i own.I aint fighting the elephnts either.

Poppa the first book I ever read that kocked me off my feet was “Think and Grow Rich” by Napolean Hill. That was so powerful to know you could actually control what you think about and thus your outcome. I didn’t have to keep doing things then hoping they worked out in the end. I’ve read it maybe 5 times now. It’s still a great book. If melo posts that link read this piece by Robert Kiyosaki about this financial crisis and tell me what you think.

Kym try amazon.com. They have it. I believe its a few years old. Amazon had the best prices.

Angie the best gems I’ve gotten on this blog had nothing to do with dating. It was from people that had experiences or knowledge that could help me in other areas of my life. This has never been a dating blog but simply a medium to pass along folks thoughts and opinions on lifes challenges. Sure, the topics start with dating but the real meat and potatoes come later. Dating has never been a problem for me so in actuality I dont need the help. Whatever I was doing worked so at best I will tweak my progam and move forward. Whenever I’ve wanted a woman I could get one and no excuses were necessary.

WHO MOVED MY CHEESE REVIEW

THIS BOOK IS CRAP!!

This is the WORST business book I have ever read. The intent behind it is valid, but the content can be summed up in a few statements: Change will happen

If you don’t change, you will die (figuratively or literally)

Watch for signs of change, so you can be prepared to change, too

Change is good, and can lead to something better

There. Do you feel like paying me [good money] for that priceless knowledge?

This is a parable, which means they dressed up the real content by writing a goofy story about mice and little people, taking up more pages so they could justify the cost. Unfortunately, they could only drag the story out so far (how many times can you read, “and he kept walking and looking for more cheese”). The book was still only about 20 pages long, too short for a hardcover, so they added a second story to frame the parable itself. The second story is about a group at a reunion that talks about the book. Even THAT doesn’t add enough pages to justify printing it in hardcover, so they increased the print size to roughly what you see in books for 3 year olds.

The author, publisher and whoever else was involved in this moneymaking scheme obviously recognized that many people would see through their efforts. Their solution? Put in a statement saying, in effect, “If you think this book isn’t worthwhile, then you aren’t a talented, cutting edge business person like all the other who read the book are.”

Believe me, someone in your office (probably your boss) is waving this book around, exclaiming how wonderful it is and telling you to read it. ASK IF YOU CAN BORROW HIS COPY. Do not spend money on it yourself. You’re going to have to read it, unfortunately, because the herd has spoken and you can’t stray from the herd. I’ll bet the person who started the rumor that this was a good book is getting royalties. It’s the only explanation.

The one saving grace about this book is it’s a quick read. I finished it in 23 minutes. At least you can soon move on to something more worthwhile.

W******* apparently it was good because you retained the subject matter pretty good. Sometimes simplicity is the best way to convey a complex topic.

Blow Obama went to the best school in Hawai. The people he met are good people to know later in life. Thats my point. Like his time at Harvard he was meeting people that he can use to get things done, and vice versa. I don’t know everything but if I have old friends that do I can benefit from what they know. It’s a beautiful system.

Poppa its a 3 page summary of todays crisis. Only takes a moment.

Melo I’ve been thinking about putting the money I make in Kuwait into the yen. My thinking is they’ll recover faster because they can still produce products whereas we can’t. The thing is their economy uses fiat money too and eventually it will collapse, as all fiat economies have. Other than that what options are availiable? Real estate will probably never come back to previous levels, the stock market is supposed to reset at the 5000 level. What else can you do with money besides your mattress?

Angie great place for a 40 yr old broad to be where she can get some dizzle. you’re further gone than first suspected. I’m recommending surgery, a frontal lobotomy to start. we’ll take your hair too because someone can use that, its nice and you wont need it while drooling in a padded cell. M’Karyl — You know, I noticed the same phenomenon in D.C. (black women with white men) when I visited a friend there in ‘07. It stood out to me 1) because I’m in the same situation, and 2) because I had never seen that combination very often. Most black/white couples I had seen were usually the other way around (black man / white women). I was proud of my fellow whiteboys. ;-) LOL

Le Siren That could be, but I think that white people acknowledge him being 1/2 white because it makes them feel much more comfortable. That makes him less of a “threat” in their eyes.

That I agree with. There aren’t too many Black men, half or otherwise that aren’t perceived as a threat in America. They are: Colin Powell, Will Smith and Wayne Brady. That’s it. End of list. They called Obama a terrorist, so he doesn’t even make the list.

money I make in Kuwait into the yen the dinar u mean..thats proly crap too coz those mullahs over there are accountable to nobody, not even their citizens coz there is no democracy, its a crazy monarch-like flawed system.Actually ur mattress,if u got good insuarance on ur property is good coz thats cash. And in this economy, cash is king.I saw some bank owned houses in dekalb cnty thru a site i suscribe to,going for $19,000/20 geez.Thats tantalizing and i cld buy that cash but then again,we aint seen the floor yet so those prices can go lower.U have no options if ure illiquid so cash is way to go. If u realy have an apetite for risk, try commodity broking in places Robert mentions in some third wrdls like zimbabwe etc. They dont have the basic goods like rice, sugar milk etc in ,most places. You buy from south africa and sell over there in US dollars.Ur risk is,ur money gets stolen and they falsify some ish about u as a hated american and imprison u,they change laws like left, right and center without warning and frequently, its damn expensive and ur security is never guaranteed. Ur consolation is when u die, they will find some genuine american dollars in ur pockets so ur siblings might get to share something…lol

Mkaryl I know it is suppose just as cold as it has been today. I don’t plan to leave the house tomorrow for anything. I am going to meet with Isabel who is the mother of my friend Deni’s housekeeper. The hotel that she works for cut her back to 3 days and she is looking for 3 days to maintain the work week she has become accustomed to. I really don’t want anyone else cleaning my house but I want to help her out and I kinda sorta feel like I am going to need a little help as the months progress. Pregnant at 40… I will maybe try her out. Mase mentioned it in jest once but it may become reality. Also I may possibly keep her as a sitter and her working for me now will give me a chance to get to know her before that time comes.

Other than meeting with her I have no plans other than the normal chores around the house.

And call your friend and invite him. He may just surprise you and make the trip.

Raqi yeah, the benefit of being single - when I get home it’s a t-shirt (which doubles as pjs). Although I sorta enjoy washing clothes. Washing clothes and washing dishes are my two ‘favorite’ chores.

Tazz I wash every 2 to 3 weeks. That does not sound sexy.

Kym lmao at the pizza truck in the front yard. Ekhart Tolle would not be proud of us today. :( please get and read that book. It is amazing.

who is Koolaid?

MK sorry fireboy isn’t coming. If you need I’ll rent a firemans outfit and not bath and I’ll fill in for him. You can call me whatever you like but lets pick up at those hot convo’s you two had. What time should I be over?

I try to be tactful but I can only take so much…so if made so folks uncomfortable I will apologize for that..but I am not taking back a damn thang I said.

Kym can’t you recognize a blog standing ovation when you see one? lol

The only thing that’s shut down is our brains because it’s 4 pm on a Friday before a 3 (or 4) day weekend!

ARed lurker, I think I hold that title cuz at least someone can have a “regular” screen name to blame. That chick straight up lied on me tho on a blog, so at least my disdain is justified.LOL

Lurker is my name/moniker. Just because it’s bland doesn’t mean I’m not connected. Of course there’s a slew of other folks that hide behind that to say something crass. LOL. Heck we’re all justified at being aggrevated with Bootiful Mainly because I’ve seen quite a few comments directed her way that seemd insightful but she chose to see otherwise, hence the aggrevation that comes next at being such a ninny….but not knowing it.

Whoever it is that’s hanging out the a fireman, hope it’s not the one I met. Had to block his number one day after giving him my number. Was calling, texting and asking to come by all within a 24 hour period. Looser! A lot of crazy folks walking around that should be committed.
