Back to basics

Good morning!

Today will be my last entry on the MIA blog! I’ve enjoyed navigating the dating scene with all of you for the past year!

I find myself wondering what, if anything, I’ve learned about my dating life in the past year. And it’s this: always go back to the fundamentals. The basic things I knew to be true four years ago are still true, and it’s only when I stray away from those that I find myself unhappy with my dating situation.

FUNDAMENTAL #1: Be choosy about who you date. I found myself questioning some precautions I’d been taking in dating this year, wondering if I was being too picky about who I let into my heart. But as soon as I let my guard down, BAM! I got my heart jerked around. I need to be picky by acknowledging any red flags from the get-go, because it always ends up saving me a lot of emotional trauma later.

FUNDAMENTAL #2: Dating is easy. You call, you go out, you have a good time. Rinse and repeat. Any confusion, pain, or otherwise negative feelings associated with this process simply means they’re not into you. (Actual relationships, including marriage, are a little more complicated. But nothing should be difficult during the dating process!)

FUNDAMENTAL #3: Trust your gut. It’s a cliché, but we don’t really trust our own instincts sometimes. If you think he’s cheating, he probably is. If you think she slept with your friend, she probably did. If you think that hottie giving you the sizzle eyes is trouble, he or she probably is. This concept applies to almost every situation, yet sometimes I’m so goo-goo-eyed “in like” or in love that I forget how effective it is!

What sort of dating fundamentals would you add to this list — things you’ve known for a long time but sometimes have to remind yourself of? Possibly things your family or friends taught you a long time ago or things you learned the hard way? What basics do you always go back to after years of dating?

Happy Friday and happy dating everyone!

Bella you made it exactly 365 days. Congrats. I hope your experience wasn’t to bad. This is a tough blog and just based on your age you have far less dating experience than even our youngest bloggers. You hung in there kid. LOL

Fundamentals: Always do you. Don’t alter what you are to make someone else feel comfortable. I can do me forever but the act grows old real quick.

Also, alot of things can be compensated for but stupid is a deal killer. Remember, “when you’re stupid your whole body suffers”.

Bella, we will miss you. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed your topics and have learned quite a bit from the residents of Blogsville. I wish you the best in all your future endeavors.

I agree w/you = back to basics! Stay true to yourself. Dating shouldn’t be as complicated as depicted here, but apparently it is.

LOL Amazon I was thinking the same thing. You know I have much vitual love for my blog mates, but not so much that yall will find me pulling it up in the wee hours of the morning, on my vacation, on my day off or after hours. But then again Beautiful admitted to not having a life outside of these monitors.

Beautiful you are really not looking to good right now. Pull back a little. And I am saying this to help you.

In my relationship the main basic fundamental I continuously have to remember is…he’s just a man. LOL Just kidding…that’s the second thing. (hehehe)

But seriously the first is no one is perfect. Not him and definitely not me. We are two individuals raised in two different households with two separate personalities so conflict is inevitable.

Other Fundamentals:

  • Be the perfect mate that you expect of your partner

  • Be true to yourself

  • Don’t accept any wooden nickels

  • Never compromise your integrity for nooooo one

  • Last but not least, never stop having fun.

on topic Raqi This is SO true: We are two individuals raised in two different households with two separate personalities so conflict is inevitable.

When I realized that my sister and I were born of the same two people, raised in the same household by the same people, and even are the same sex and we STILL can’t agree half the time, then I have to expect that me and my dude will have our “I hate you” moments too.

Several of my fundamentals are the same as yours:

  • I’ve learned to not ask anything of anyone that I am not willing or able to do myself, including forgiveness

  • I’m not perfect, so I best better deal with his “idiosyncracies”.

  • Criticism rarely helps, even if it’s supposed to be constructive.

  • If it ain’t what you want, keep it moving.

It’s keeps life pleasant for everyone involved.

Simply, I have four rules (and not just for dating!):

    3-Other distractions (hobbies).
    4-Patience.

    Good Morning All,

    It’s Friday and I leave early—YES!!

On topic: It really does boil down to the basics..and that is just be yourself. If you love you..then that realness will shine through…and you will have peace with yourself no matter what comes at you.

Raqi Don’t seriously Don’t I don’t know if it is just my 2nd sight or what..but something is seriously not right with ole girl and there is no need to draw yourself into the web. Just throw up a pray and a peace sign and keep it moving. You can’t save a brother or a sister that don’t want to be saved.

Raqi Your “Be true to yourself” fundamental made me think of something else I’ve come to realize over the years. It is very important to be true to yourself AND honest with yourself. I’ve had to learn that lesson the hard way. In the past, I’ve had my times when I thought “Oh, I won’t get caught up, this situation is okay with me for now” and I ended up getting myself hurt.

I try to help my friends now with the same situations. One was involved with a man who she wanted a relationship with, but he wanted to be friends (FWB), and she said it was fine with her. NO IT WASN’T! She wanted him. I told her to be honest with herself about what she wanted, and if it was a relationship that she wanted, he wasn’t the one for her and she should keep it moving. She hung around just long enough for her to fall in love, tell him, and be extremely hurt when he gently reminded her that he didn’t want anything serious, he just wanted to hang out. He even laughed a little. If she was honest from the get-go, she would have been spared her own hurt.

Foots That is so true. Be honest with yourself. The situation you describes reminded me of something a friend of mine(guy) went through. He was very honest with the women he dated/had sex with. I am not looking for anything but a good time and hanging out. What happens? One lady catches the fever. Now she knew the job was dangerous when she took it..but all the same when he reminded her this is just a booty call she went into the “all men and shyt mode” he was just using me. Needless to say ole girl started making “surprise inspections” at his house and place of work. Flapping her bat wings and tearing stuff up. (Car window) Once it all came to a head..he was left feeling like the bad guy..and she had a case against her. All could have been avoided if she had paid attention up front. from the jump.

For instance, I am being honest with myself when I say I need to go to the track again tomorrow. (Right after I leave 6’1’s kitchen.) *Ooh, that was therapeutic. Anyone else?

Rell Yes, when I said that criticism rarely helps, I meant that I’ve learned to stay away from criticizing my partner, even if I think it’s constructive. I focus so much more on the positive in other people than I used to. I used to hold people to standards that I wasn’t even sure I could hold myself up to. Which is not to say that I don’t have standards for other people, it’s just that I was as hard on others as I was on myself. Which is futile, because the only behaviors I can control are my own. I let go of that in favor of accepting people as they are (including me) and being more forgiving, of myself and others. That’s what I meant, long form.

mytwo I need to get on my elliptical. It’s like I’m scared of it now or something.

I will also be honest about eating a whole foot-long sub at Blimpie yesterday (got it on wheat bread though). It didn’t make sense to pay $3.99 for a 6-inch sub when their 12-inch subs are just $5.00 right now. So I had to make the best financial decision I could, at the expense of my dietary requirements. sigh That did me in yesterday for calorie count. I had to eat fruit last night for dinner.

Foots the biggest issue with criticism in a relationship IMO is it depends on who says or feels that it is. Sometimes just an expression of concern or opinion can be felt as criticism to your partner. It’s hard line to gauge. No party of a relationship should be exempt from expressing their thoughts therefore sometimes it is up to the recipient to take it for what it is and not for how the feel. Now nagging about every darn little thing is a whole different matter.

Ared you calling ol boy the “man of the hour” is going to make him so. You’re sending subliminal messages to yourself that this is not permanent. If you want it act as if. Ain’t nothing wrong with giving it all you have and not winning. What’s bad is sabotaging your own progress. Carrington wow, hadn’t seen that name in eons. All I remember is how the blog ladies would have caniptions (sp) on how good looking you are.

    Beautiful
You really need to step back a bit. If for nothing else, for the sake of self respect. Stop trying to make a fit here. I mostly lurk because it’s not often inviting in here but that’s okay, to each his own. When you have a life, really, it’s not that serious. I dunno, it’s like you’re appearing to display “taking the high road” in spite of all that’s said and insinuated about you, coming back and posting all friendly and stuff makes you look silly and is having an adverse affect. For the sake of argument, let’s say you’re guilty of all that’s been accused and that you are a few fries short of that happy meal. Glutton for punishment, ey?When someone straight out disrespects you, give it up. I lurk enough to stay intune with the happenings and you’ve done some really simple things. Pick you face up off the floor, do damage control…stay away from where you’re not wanted. Kill the light and fluffy talk. Get off this mug at 5am. Quit listing all the great things you’re going to do for your man when you get one. The men on here ain’t impressed. Girl, take care of self, all that other crap is secondary. You sound in need of friends/counseling…not a man. You’ve subjected yourself to plenty of obvious skidmarks on your back as it is….get your footings. Lastly, when someone (from this blog) gives you sound advice, quit saying “I got this”…obviously you don’t. This is all said in love.

When I do, I make enough to last a few days so I do not have to do it often. I am bored by cooking. I’d rather pluck arm hairs than do it. As far as the sandwich, I don’t use mayo and I eat turkey with a little mozzarella cheese. So noone of the fat of other sandwiches. Heck I am glad I live alone..no man or child looking in my face asking me to cook. I cook when I feel like it.

And listen to what my gut says about a person.. You know, when u start questioning her actions, why is she telling me of rip that she has alot of male friends and is that something that I can handle.. Guess that ties into the whole red flag thing also..

brian You know, when u start questioning her actions, why is she telling me of rip that she has alot of male friends and is that something that I can handle..

Maybe that’s not always a red flag. I see how it could be a cover up for some untoward activities on her part, but I always make sure to tell a new guy that my best friend is a guy and that I have guy friends. I am upfront about this because I don’t want him to be suspicious or intimidated by my friendships. In fact, I want him to get to know them, just like he’ll get to know my female friends and my family. It helps a little because all but one of them are married or in long-term relationships, but it goes a long way towards telling what kind of trust your partner has in you if they can accept your opposite-sex friendships.

Have you found reasons not to trust women with plenty of male friends in your experiences?

Staceye do you take in enough protein? Try upping your protein as it will help lean you out. If you’re working out as much as you day it will defintely help. 1 shake a day will feed those muscles and that will keep you leaner.

Lurker that was great information. I doubt it will be received the way it was sent.

Kym that info was pre-Tolle. When I got into real estate I joined a mentoring group that stressed controlling your own thought process and visuallizing success. It worked for me but over time I lost the mindset when I got the big head. I need to get back to the basics myself.

Well Raqi, I had to Google that! Wow!

Histrionic personality disorder (HPD) is a personality disorder characterized by a pattern of excessive emotionality and attention-seeking, including an excessive need for approval and inappropriate seductiveness, usually beginning in early adulthood.

The essential feature of histrionic personality disorder is an excessive pattern of emotionality and attention-seeking behavior. These individuals are lively, dramatic, enthusiastic, and flirtatious. They may be inappropriately sexually provocative, express strong emotions with an impressionistic style, and be easily influenced by others.

nothing should be difficult during the dating process!

I agree with this 110% because dating is optional. If you dont like them, move on.

I think what I learned the most is to enjoy your 20’s and dont get to serious with no one. Thats why I like to go out because when I get married or whatever, Ill have plenty of time to sit at home and be bored.

Rell I don’t know you to hate you. I remember well talking with you.. via email as well as a few other bloggers from the yahoo group.

I was the same person then that I am now. With a few growth spurts inbetween. But as for clear cut facts about you or anyone else here in blogland I know zero. So again why would I hate on you? I don’t know you from Adam’s tomkat.

Now as for any attacks or insults..well if you throw one at me..I am not so present all the time that I might not throw one or two back. But that goes back to the old saying of if you can dish it then be able to take it.

Trust me figuring you or anyone else here on the blog out and getting to “your level of complexity” is not anything I lose precious time over.

Yeah, I was the “friend” that was introduce to the BF.. Knowing that I was not just a friend.. Yeah it was wrong, and I had my karma come back on me.. I can understand a few guys that are just that, friends..,, but don’t hit me with the line, I don’t get along with women so all my friends are male.. and then lol, turn around and say none of them think of me like that(sexual or other wise) Do I beleive men and women can be friends, yes I have close female friends, that I can count on one hand.. Maybe my bad Karma is still at work.. but its something that would raise my eyebrow..

No Rell, I’m simply a person commenting because that is what the board is for. You’ve certainly stuck your nose in other peoples posts before. Was that type of response necessary? Nope. Ask yourself what is going on that you need be so hostile and resort to childish name calling. Grow up and stop taking your personal life frustrations out on people on this blog. If you don’t want people to comment on the things you say, perhaps you should stop posting.

Mo I lost 10 lbs by mostly watching my caloric intake and paying attention to the types of foods I was eating. I was 150 at 5’6”, which was a borderline 8, now I’m back at a good size 6. I used The Daily Plate (www.dailyplate.com), which allows you to track your caloric intake, fat, sodium, carbs, sugar, and daily fitness activities. You’d be surprised at how just knowing what you are eating changes how and what you eat.

I started eating breakfast everyday, usually cereal with a banana, measuring out servings of food, cut out soda for the most part, eating more fruits and vegetables for snacks. I went to 2% milk and cheese, reduced calorie juices, more water, etc. When I can, I choose what I want to eat before I get to a restaurant based on calorie and nutritional content. I no longer go get 3 cookies from McDonalds and eat them all at the same time (cause I know that one cookie has 160 calories * 3, that’s 480 calories, which takes a while to burn off).

It has really helped me not only lose a few pounds, but I’m so much more aware of how I feel when I eat the right things.

    The Bathtub Test

During a visit to the mental asylum, a visitor asked the Director how do you determine whether or not a patient should be institutionalized.

“Well,” said the Director, “we fill up a bathtub, then we offer a teaspoon, a teacup and a bucket to the patient and ask him or her to empty the bathtub.”

“Oh, I understand,” said the visitor. “A normal person would use the bucket because it’s bigger than the spoon or the teacup.”

“No.” said the Director, “A normal person would pull the plug. Do you want a bed near the window?”

staceye i gave up on rolling it altogether. i wear it straight with a headband. i like it. easy to maintain.

it might be a bit much, but ask the produce manager to pick a watermelon out for you. she picked a beauty the other day. i do it a lot. it may seem gay to you though.

    bk thanks!

I’m free to comment and will continue to do so. AND THAT FOLKS IS WHY SHYT JUMPS OFF IN HERE EVERYDAY. IT’S NOT ME. LOL. THINK ABOUT IT!

lurker let me remind you hun that this is a dating, relationship, marriage blog. all of my posts are about the obvious. sticking my tongue out at you. lol.

now that i have a job, all the others who sat on their arse are calling and asking me to accept. lol. wow!

FUNDAMENTAL #6: don’t listen to your girlfriends, co-workers, family members about what you should do in a relationship. take their advice and process it accordingly. but make your own decision.

jazzy yea, she was up one time where she was the first blogger at 8a. see how nice i was on not bashing her about that.

Stuff does not jump off here everyday. Save the dramatics.

When things do pop off, it’s not always the same people, but there are a few common denominators.

I can readily admit that I have had a good number of blog scuffles. Some started by me, some not and definitly not always intentional. Let’s all accept responsibility for our actions. There are no victims here.

Staceye You must think that if you lose da azz, brothers will look at your face and heart more. Great concept, wrong plan of action though yes..that is part of the reason.

Well on behalf of all the brothers that might get a chance to put eyes on da azz, except that brotha that might wreck the ride trying to get a peek, may I say, “Please don’t lose da azz!”

    BK
Actually, I wasn’t aiming for snide or tactful. I was calling it like I see/read it….daily. So what if I mostly lurk?! My business, it is not? Foolishness and simplicity stops the natural flow…yeah yeah so what it’s a blog. Honestly, I’m a female and somewhat bothered that she’s on here daily questing for friendship and it goes unrequited. I’d much rather, seeing we’re all grown, have a sit down and tell me how I appear and nope that does not equate to walking around worrying about other’s opinions. As we all know and as it applies to every individual, more often than not our own view is somewhat skewed from the reality of what’s all around us. Trust me, NOT by any means am I afraid to step to you or any other cat that wants to address my post. Can you honestly tell me that you don’t read her posts and see and hear what lies beneath? Okay then, instead of wasting your time thumbing through posts for you to piggyback, point her in the right direction and what she needs to do to gain some comeuppance (is that a word).

As for 2C implying folks like to jump in when there’s drama, how about you taking the same advice. How are you going to straight embarrass her and then jump the caboose when people comment. Got a beef with ole girl, don’t air it. Reply like she wanted and tell her one on one how you really feel…not interested. What was more effective you calling her a dumb a@@ b&%ch or me saying in so many words, girl let that go, he’s not interested or don’t bite off more than you can chew. As we all have read on more than one occasion you’ve made it apparently clear that you’d go there with her but only as a knockoff.

You and BK should both know….this ain’t Angie/Beautiful! Now call me one.

    Random Thoughts:

Listening to Michael Jackson: Michael Jackson was cute when he was younger and would have more than likely grew up to be an even cuter fully developed man. He can sing like nobody’s business and can dance like no tomorrow. Dude could have probably pulled any woman with the slightest beckon. Heck I would have done him had he stayed black…and straight…and sane…and non-pedophilic. Danggit That boy is messed up.

And as far as trying to embarrass her, NOT at all…thus the offline attempt to see, “how may I help you.” Like I said, Ms. Casual observer, go back to Tuesday’s last post (since you’ve kept abreast), and see what she posted…..she sought my input, not the other way around…and since you’re such a casual observer, and know how commonly overused the term, “lurker” is, why not call yourself something different….if you really intended to contribute, regularly?

    Truth

Is it the Whey Protain (Walmart)? I usually buy for $30 at Whole Foods.

    Hope everyone is doing well.

    Here’s something interesting:

56 Reasons to Have Sex, but I will only list 12

It’s not just for tickling your taco. Getting it on is good for the whole enchilada Nicole Blades

Do the nasty. Knock boots. Bump uglies. Shag. Schtupp. Boff. Boink. For every silly nickname we use for sex, there’s a totally legit reason why you should be having more of it. To prove our point, we’ve pulled together a comprehensive list of the mind-boggling benefits of hitting the sheets. From boosting your immune system to releasing aggression, here are the many ways it pays to play dirty.

  • Shag your guy’s ticker into shape. According to a study at Queens University in Belfast, men who have sex three or more times a week can cut their risk of heart attack in half.

  • According to that same study, regular romps will also halve your man’s chances of suffering a stroke.

  • Work off that Rice Krispies Treat without hitting the treadmill. One 30-minute roll in the hay burns about 200 calories.

  • Avoid going postal at work. Nooky helps the brain produce neurotransmitters, chemical messengers that help mellow our moods.

  • Get more z’s. A little sensual massage followed by some dancing in the sheets releases sleep-inducing endorphins.

  • Wake up and smell the roses. Post-romp, you’ll experience a surge in the hormone prolactin, which develops new neurons in the brain’s olfactory bulb, improving your sense of smell.

  • Unless you’re a kinky, wayward politician, it’s free!

  • Kick colds to the curb. Researchers at Wilkes University in Pennsylvania found that having sex once or twice a week boosts the immune system by 30 percent.

  • Protect your pearly whites by stepping up to the mic. Semen contains zinc, calcium, and other minerals proven to fight tooth decay. (Only trace amounts, but who’s counting?)

  • Watch a Lost DVD marathon without constant bathroom breaks. Sex tones the pelvic muscles that support your uterus, bladder, and bowel, meaning better pee control.

  • No pain, all gain. Right after your big O, you’ll be practically swimming in oxytocin (we’re talking a seriously intense surge). The overload releases endorphins, which help alleviate pain from arthritis…

  • …and—hallelujah!—menstrual cramps.

Amazon But yeah, I enjoy it while it lasts. I just hope I can start liking the taste of low fat/calorie food. It’s terrible.

This isn’t really for you yet, but just wanted to address the misconception. You don’t have to actually eat low cal foods. You can just alter what you eat and in what portion to cut calories. Like for example, if you want a double cheeseburger, and you are trying to choose between Burger King (510 calories), Steak And Shake (410), and McDonalds (440), choose Steak and Shake; it will be fresher anyway. And if you’re at McDonalds and you want fries, get a small (230 cal) versus a medium (380 cal).

One thing I did get used to was Chick-Fil-A’s light italian dressing (30 cal a packet) over the reduced fat berry vinigarette (140 cal a packet) and Ranch (400 cal a packet). And I love their diet lemonade now over their regular lemonade, it tastes almost the same. You actually save 310 calories getting a large diet over a large regular.

Have you been before & found it worthwhile? it’s type of atmosphere that is very tranquil/serene when enjoying the galleries. The jazz bands/artists are wonderful. I think Rau 6 will be there tonight.

Is that a perk of your volunteerism? Yes i get gobs of stuff for being a volunteer the actual employees don’t get as much perks as volunteers. Wholesale membership card disc, all kind of restaurants, movies, passes. Of course there are stipulations per perk.

When i do the overnight next week for the 4th they are bringing in some animals from the Zoo and some cater services other mess. When i read the outline it’s like a big ole Aquarium party. sometimes we do to much

Foots - This is very good information. Thank you! However, picking and chosing what I have to eat based on calorie count and portion seems like a small version of hell (only because I’ve gone my entire life never having to do it or worry about weight).

For now, what I’ve taken from that is that I need to up my fitness activity so that I can still eat whatever I want! My appetite has been decreasing these last couple of years so maybe I can find a good balance while not having to deprive myself.

Island Girl Daily Plate actually has a fitness category where you can track sexual activity, with calories burned per hour and everything. Trouble is, I can never track it because I don’t want my friends to know when my brakes have been beat off, and how exactly how well. One of my friends tracked his activity once with him and his wife and I was sufficiently grossed out when I saw that. Just TMI. So I track that as “Generic Calories burned”. LOL!!

Dayumm that watermelon is sweet and juicy as a girl I used to date. I mean real nice. Thanks for the advice. I now know how to pick a good melon. Pooter tell pops I said thanks for the info.

On a sad note, this fuggin melon is about half the size of the ones at the px and cost the same. $5.99 WTF is that about? Now they have what’s called a personal watermelon. It’s the size of a canalope. 2 for $5. I thought the big ones were personal watermelons. LMAO

Good news for the atlanta market.

    • Single family homes inventory will be absorbed and inventory levels will return to normal by the late 2009/early 2010 timeframe. • 2008 will see the return of more buyers to take advantage of great mortgage rates, low prices and great selection opportunities. Buying activity will continue to increase in 2009 and 2010. • Home values will remain flat in 2008 and 2009 due to excessive inventory. Home values will begin increasing in 2010 and 2011 as inventories drop and population growth continues in Atlanta. • New home builder starts will be back on the increase again in 2011-2012. • And the cycle continues………..

    And

Atlanta has an incredible future. • Our economy is strong and diversified. • We have an active and business-friendly government. • Hartsfield-Jackson airport is the busiest airport in the world and allows passengers to reach more places in the world quicker than any other metropolitan area. • Atlanta is expected to add 67,300 new jobs in 2008 and 63,500 in 2009. (Georgia State University Study) • Atlanta has the highest percentage increase of new millionaires – 1st in the nation. (Claritas) • Atlanta is the #1 destination for young professionals. (Geolytics & U.S. Census) • AARP rated Atlanta as the best city for baby boomers & seniors to live. • In the last 6 years, Atlanta added more people than any metro in the nation. (Fortune) • Fortune magazine says that Atlanta is expected to add 2 million more by 2020 – roughly the size of Denver. • The Census Bureau and Virginia Tech released a report that says that in the next 25 years, Atlanta will be the center of a “Megapolitan Cluster” of over 7 million people.

Just got this report in. I hope it increases optimism for you folks.

think that Indians have divisions too based on color Its culutre Friday i see!!…i can tell u a thing or 2 about them too, i been there. For Indians, they have a caste system..brahman and harijen are the extremes.Brahmans are the superior caste of all and Harijen, the lowest caste and there other caste in between.U born into ur caste and u die in ur caste.U caste, a lot of times determines ur calling in lyfe. The brahman are the ruling class, the aristocrats and have the most money. The harijen are the poorest, the beggers and street dwellers. Its not about color over there, its aboutwhat caste are u? and if u harijen,u sunk..good bye…. If u born in the streets in India,u grow up there and u die there,so forget it if u were born in the Bowen homes over there,ur calling has been determined already…u pityful…..

    (Is this directed at me?)

You have no sources! LOL. But they say that I’m hot because I pay them to. LOL

and will be fuller when u start cooking for him and going raw..hw many babies are u gonna have?

LOL. Guys hang on to this theory thinking I can drop a few babies and still have a good shape. We’ll see what happens if, God willing, it happens.

If I had a choice tho, I’d have two kiddies and call it a day.
