I was talking with one of my male friends this weekend who told me that he thought, generally speaking, it was much more difficult to be a woman. That made me wonder about the dating aspect of things and who has it harder — the gentlemen or the ladies?
Some arguments I came up with on the ladies’ end:
Some of us go through an extensive beauty routine to go out on dates, which may take anywhere from one hour to one day, and many of us spend a lot of money upfront (hair, clothes makeup, salon) to look great.
Women tend to become emotionally attached very easily, so some of us have to work to control that urge early on.
Women have to fight off truly ridiculous, aggressive men in social situations (I’m not saying it doesn’t happen to you, too, guys. But statistically…)
But here are the downsides I thought of for the gentlemen:
You have to actually plan all the aspects of dates (transporation, place, time, activities) if you’re assuming traditional gender roles in dating. And that can be a lot of planning! And a lot of money!
Sometimes you have to do scary things, like kill bugs or kill another man to defend a lady’s honor! (OK, maybe not the second one. But the first one is totally true.)
You have to deal with neurotic women who think that you’re dating them exclusively after you’ve only been on one date.
What other challenges or obstacles would you add to this list? Who do you think has it harder in dating? Men or women?

We all have to make it do what it do..to get what we want from who we want. That is my final answer.
Today is Flashback Friday..so I think today we should only sing songs or give memories of growing up when we were care and worry free…I will start.
Summer, Summer, Summertime time to sit back and unwind
school is out and it’s a sort of a buzz a back then I didn’t really know what it was but now I see what have of this the way that people respond to summer madness the weather is hot and girls are dressing less and checking out the fellas to tell ‘em who’s best riding around in your jeep or your benzos or in your Nissan stting on lorenzos
back in Philly we be out in the park a place called the plateau is where everybody goes
guys out hunting and girls doing likewise honking at the honey in front of you with the light eyes she turn around to see what you beeping at it’s like the summers a natural afradesiac
and with a pen and pad I compose this rhyme to hit you and get you equipped for the summer time
Summer, Summer, Summertime time to sit back and unwind
it’s late in the day and I ain’t been on the court yet hustle to the mall to get me a short set yeah I got on sneaks but I need a new pair cause basketball courts in the summer got girls there
the temperature’s about 88 hop in the water plug just for old times sake break to ya crib change your clothes once more cause you’re invited to a barbeque that’s starting at 4
sitting with your friends as y’all remincise about the days growing up and the first person you kiss and as I think back makes me wonder how the smell from a grill could spark up nostalgia all the kids playing out front little boys messin round with the girls playing double-dutch while the DJ’s spinning a tune as the old folks dance at your family reunion
then six o’clock rolls around you just finished wiping your car down it’s time to cruise so you head to the summertime hangout it looks like a car show everybody come lookin real fine fresh from the barber shop or fly from the beauty salon every moment frontin and maxin chillin in the car they spent all day waxin leanin to the side but you can’t spead through Two miles an hour so everybody sees you there’s an air of love and of happiness and this is the Fresh Prince’s new defintion of summer madness

Who do you think has it harder in dating? Men or women?
We both have it hard. We both have it hard in dating when we decide on what we are looking for in a partner. Until then, if you aren’t looking for anything specific, then the general population is out there for you. But when you start narrowing down and begin to choose people based on what you truly desire in your partner, the pool gets smaller and smaller for both sexes.
I know that some of the list up top is supposed to be funny, but once you get past the superficial part of dating (who’s paying for what, who calls who first, etc) the really hard part begins when you have to make deals with yourself as to what your non-negotiables are in another person and finding the person who fits you best.

Raqi, While jumping out of a plane is definately stupid! It is safer than you think. My brother does crew jumping, where they do formations in the air, and he’s been doing it for about 5 years. When you jump you have a back up shoot, and if you get in trouble those jumping with you can still rescue you. It is hard not to worry, but he’ll be ok.

Truth when I was leaving this morning I told him “go right ahead and make me a rich woman”. LOL He said “because I know you don’t mean that I will not take it personal.” Hell I did mean it.
Kym 17 years ago I got a phone call that shredded my heart to pieces. Believe it or not I am still paranoid of getting a call like that again. I know anything can happen on any given day but the thought of someone deliberately engaging in death-defying stunts will never set well with me. And my first husband’s death was only an accident. But I guess you do know something about what I am feeling.

LOL I went to visit family over there and believe it or not it was very peaceful and I enjoyed my visit. I went with my dad who goes back and forth all the time. I went up top to get with some of my homegirls, we had a ball, clubbed everyday, shopped a lot. Staceye you know that I didn’t want to come back empty handed right?

IMO, it’s apples vs oranges….it depends on the individual. However, I will say that I think men are presented with greater responsibilities (initially that is), it’s just that not all men are up for the challenge and/or the role of leadership.
Some may find it easier to be led by their woman and let her deal with all the stress of staying “on top” of things. I mean, honestly….(just to go a little further with it)….many women thrive on that anyway….the ONE who calls the shots….saying who, when, where and why, makes some feel d@mn good….or flat out equivalent to a man….all they need is a nice set of “nuts” and a stick….Mrs. Independent herself. She has the OPTION of thinking like man, acting like a man, walking like a man and talking like man…exerting these male-like tendencies (esp at work) in order to show and prove that she can handle herself and/or her daily responsibilities smoothly and very well at that…. AND all the while at any moment she can “regress” back to her womanly characteristics at the end of the day….or heyal whenever the opportunity presents itself.
Women generally seem to have more options to choose from when it comes to utilizing certain “outlets” to alleviate their daily stress, esp when the role(s) of those man-like qualities began to take their tolls on her…we’re emotional creatures anyway, so it’s really no big deal.
In addition, women constantly find ways and/or causes to celebrate their “womanhood” …esp when she’s made some great accomplishments in her life….”the first woman to….”, or “the first Black woman, etc…”
However, I do think in the end, Mrs. Independent becomes quite weary of paying the cost to be THE BOSS for so long, she finds herself on the prowl for THAT MAN, who is up for the challenge and she may find that embracing her role of being a woman, isn’t a sign of weakness or being unequal – even if you stumble upon a (good) man who is accustomed to claiming his position as THE HEAD, remember that behind a every good man, you’ll find a what?…..(which is a great accomplishment in its own right, last I heard it’s not all that easy either, otherwise more folks would be trying to “get on” instead of rushing to “get out of it”). JMO

This statement brings up a little conversation I had this week with my SO. We were tussling on the bed (smile) and he had his arms around me, but I was about to fall off. I was struggling so hard to get control so I wouldn’t fall that I made it worse. He said “What’s wrong? I got you. I’m holding you, you’re not going to fall.” And I was like, “But I feel myself falling”. Then he said probably the most profound thing a man has said to me in years: “You have to remember that if we fall, I will fall first.” Can you imagine what a relief that was? I stopped fighting, exhaled, said “okay”, and let him take the responsibility for whether or not we fell.
I think I grew up a little this week because of that.

This was not convince you, but just by observation of some folks I know…..however, I do understand your perspective, but I personally feel if he’s THE MAN of the house, gon’ head and be “that man”…..if I sense that he can be so easily persuaded to whereas I can just snatch his “manhood” from between his legs and then stuff em’ in his mouth, then to me….HE IS NOT “A REAL MAN”….I’d be completely turned off, b/c it’s already established that I AM the WOMAN. Yes, I believe it is important for he and I to face “our” issues together, as well as respect and value of my position and opinion as well… but at some point he will need me to “let go” and let his @$$ be (what he is)…sometimes, heyal I believe most times it’s best to leave him with “his dignity”, instead of rescuing him from his responsibilities all the time, now at this point what would I really need him for, if I am pulling all the strings and making decisions on everything….
It has a way of putting one into a comfort zone and they soon become complacent….given an example of a young boy whose been coddled and rescued most of his life by women (to include his mother)….her intentions were probably genuine, but this type of rearing will surely make him emotionally and mentally “handicapped” b/c he’s hardly ever been in a scenario to “think for himself” w/o bottling up like a bytch or hiding behind “his supa-woMAN”….for he’s always looking for a woman (esp) to make is load a little lighter…..men like this (IMO) do not handle “life’s @$$-whuppins” well….they immediately “break-down”…ready to snap on er’body, b/c shyt’s too hard and he’s not used to it….b/c he has no experience……
(now in my best Shug Avery voice…”I’oun need no lil boy who can’t say no to his daddey….I need me a MAN….A MAN!!!)lol
…I believe if the relationship is a healthy one (for both), there would not be any misunderstandings or question on his position or MINE.

But I guess since The Republic is very close there are a lot of people with the same exact flavor of kool aid as me, because I seen alot of women especially with the same coloring as far as hair, eyes, and complexion and they were tall too. But my mom is dark too but she does have the same kind of hair and eyes as I do. My dad had me thinking that I was going to this place that I see on T.V. but most of family has gotten money in various ways over the years and they live in the better parts and very few of them live in the shantytowns.
