Morning all

Hee Hee… I met this guy New Years Eve… I was all smiles and giggles while we were talking and exchanging getting-to-know-you facts… until I asked him where he lived. Lithonia! Ugh… I live in Marietta. I said it before I knew it “uh, this isn’t going to work” We both laughed - but it was that uncomfortable laugh.

We still exchanged numbers but it’s purely a text message thing…

True story - I actually like to drive, so the distance is nothing, it’s the freakin’ gas that holds me back. I guess for the right person you’ll go out of your way, but unfortunately, when someone leaves very far away, it’s hard to spend lots of time with them to get to know them. I’m not much of a phone person, so you won’t get much out of me there. I guess meeting in a neutral location is best - but even that has to be left to the weekends due to the traffic situation in Atlanta.

Maybe traffic and distance are really to blame for all our dating woes… who knew?

If you do date people across town, what do you do to help bridge the gap?

I’m willing to meet 1/2 way if we are dating, but if it has gone further than casual dating, we may have to rotate locations my side this weekend, your side next weekend

Do you try to pick meeting places halfway between the two of you? Ladies, do you try to meet your date at the restaurant or lounge so you can both save time and gas money?

How do you schedule around rush hour and problem traffic times?

This can be tricky in Atlanta, there is always a trafice jam somewhere. I suggest listening to the traffic reports before starting the commute and mapping out the path of least resistance. Planning a later dinner on a Thursday or Friday because of possible traffic issues

What’s the farthest (or longest) you’ve ever driven to pick up someone who technically lived in the metro Atlanta area?

Can’t remember the last time I picked a guy up for a date. Heck if I am driving, the least he can do is meet me at my place.

Morn All - I cant see why women would complain about this if the guy was willing to meet you in your area for a date @ your local spot. If you don’t have to burnt the fuel then sit back and relax. It bugs me when a women says “Oh you live too far…” I just say “you dont have to drive, we can chill in your part of town” don’t see what the big deal is.

Well, I used to live in midtown, so I wasn’t really far from anyone. I don’t party OTP, so if I met you, it means you are willing to come to the city. When I first moved her I was in midtown (by Atlantic Station) and dude was in Mableton. Being a newbie to the A I thought it was the end of the world! But then we broke up and a met a guy who lived in Douglasville.

After that, I got over it. I moved into a house still in the city, just further south. The last 2 years I dated a guy who lived owned a condo by Turner Field (smart guy). So we were 10 minutes away and could meet up after work.

I just suck it up now. I’d rather be driveable then be out of state like I used to be. The last guy I dated lived 30 miles away in Chamblee. We always met after traffic, so it worked.

I’m from the West Coast, and in Southern California and Phoenix, everyone lives far away. I would not discount dating someone solely on their zip code. I guess I am just used to driving and having family and friends who live in various parts of the city, so this is nothing unusual for me.

Now that I live in Atlanta, I still don’t understand how many women (and men) complain about not having someone, but then want to discount them if they live “too far”. Lucky for me, I don’t see things that way.

yeah distance can make a difference, especially if it’s more than 25 miles. that’s when it gets to be a bit much for me. i’m not a big driver and consider 30 minutes a long distance drive. i must have had a chauffeur in my past life…lol

Demi No he didn’t. I would drive to his home and then we would get into his car and go to dinner; other times we would chill at his house. I stay cold alot so he would joke about sending me his utility bill because he would have it on during my entire stay. Hell I should send him my gas card bill now that I think about it.

900 Well, I guess for me I realize that one day you’re going to get tired of coming to this side of town - especially when you figure out you can’t come to the house - as you should. I don’t mind the drive, as I, and others have stated before, the gas it was always lingers in the back of my head.

But we all know, if someone is worth it, you’ll do what you have to in order to spend time with them. The difficult part is that time prior to you figuring out their worth it…

Demi splitting the tank with a female can get expensive for the fellas - paying for the date, my gas and your gas… thats pricey! If we were going on a date, I’d just chalk up the price of the gas since you’ll probably pay for whatever activities we’re going to partake in. But if it’s a chill session at your spot - half on the tank would a nice gesture.

Good morning All, I’m facing that same dilimna right now, I’ve been dating a great guy for a while who live in Snellville and I live in West Cobb…talk about a drive. We try to get together every other weekend and I must admit it’s no where the same as dating someone who lives a slight few minutes away compared to someone who lives a hour haul away. I’m used to my guy being an arms lenght away from me so adjusting to the drive is going to be very challenging.

Ladies, do you try to meet your date at the restaurant or lounge so you can both save time and gas money? We meet smack dead in the middle….off of Ashford Dunwoody, Perfiect location, great restaurants…

Demi- LOL @ West Coast people being weird….I’ll pretend I didn’t read that! Cali and Phoenix are bad, depending on what part of the city you live in. For instance, in San Diego, it is no big deal to date someone who lives in LA, Riverside, or Orange County. I did it all the time. Same in Phoenix…I lived in Scottsdale and would date dudes in South Phoenix…no big deal. Now, I will say that in 2 weeks, Phoenix will be off the chain because of Superbowl…lol, and of course, I will be in the mix somewhere. Maybe I will meet some dudes in Phoenix who live in Atlanta…lol.

Page1908 I used to live in Cali, Lancaster/Palmdale area. You’re right when you say you have to drive everywhere, but I gotta admit I used to hate making that hour and a half drive to LA to date, since there weren’t really any prospects in Lancaster/Palmdale. Now, if you lived in Orange County, then that made my drive more than two hours…not trying to drive like that anymore. lol

If you’re not on the north side of the perimeter, we can’t do to much. Tried to date a woman in Clayton County, but I live in the Atlanta/Sandy Springs area, so that didn’t last long.

Ok well maybe it just me but I have always stayed ducked off so I am use to the drive…but if he is exactly what I am looking for then the drive will be me made without question! And hopefully he will say the same thing! I wouldn’t care if gas was $10 a gallon! If the fool was Christian, educated, respectful, attractive, loyal, finically stable, with a sense of humor, has a mean dress code, tall, chocolate, and could put me to sleep! I am on my way now! I am leaving work as we speak!

But as far as out of state I don’t think it will work….I tried it with this cat in NY! I know come on NY! But I couldn’t shake him I gave him a little of my peach and it was down hill from there! And of course that didn’t last long!

This seems a bit out of whack to me. For the right person, I’d drive to Alabama weekly to see them. This whole gas prices thing sounds shallow. I understand that money is tight, but there are solutions. Split the difference, help out the person with half the gas bill that has the car that’s gets better gas mileage. There’s no reason for the person driving the Escalde to drive 50 miles while the other person could drive 100+ on the same amount of gas. Dare I say… he/she is just “not that into you” if your zip code is the primary factor in deciding whether to date someone living in the metro area.

And, I hate that Greg guy too.

900 not trying to confuse you, baby! I’m not assuming you cannot come over, I just don’t do the company at the house thing - I have a kid… a 12 year old son at that. I’m sure I don’t need to say it but, I don’t bring guys around my child. So, thats what that’s all about… I believe in as well as seek progress when dealing with gentlemen callers - the pinnacle of that progress is meeting my son! I’d be willing to date NYE guy thats why we exchanged numbers but it seemed like both of us had the distance factor lingering in the back of our minds. I’d be willing to meet up on the weekends, but his second job prevents that. Theres always more to the story :)

Peach I feel you girl. I will not be all over ATL for NO MAN! LOL I don’t care if he paid for gas…I just refuse to drive far. I HATE TRAFFIC! I have very bad road rage! Usually the traffic is a bunch of nosey azz people slowing down to look at an accident that has nothing to do with them! UGH My ex lived out in Lithonia and I am in Dunwoody…let’s just say we hardly saw eachother. I prefer a guy in the 5-10 mile radius. Not too close…but not in east bubblephuck either! Strangely I will date a guy out of state…that means I only see you ever few months and I actually get the time to miss you.

Dreams, I know the Palmdale/Lancaster area very well. I have a cousin who lives there. When I go back home to Cali now, I am constantly driving. I grew up in Inglewood/Baldwin Hills, and other family live in Chino Hills, Pasadena, Altadena, Compton, Long Beach, Torrance…etc…lol. I’m just used to it.

ImAPeach, as a West Coast person (been in the ‘A’ for only 3 months now), no, traffic was an issue for me, because there is always traffic. I am used to traffic jams, accidents, earthquakes, fires, etc., so no. Even when I moved to Phoenix, I still dated dudes in LA/San Diego. It was a 5 hour drive, but a 45 min flight on Southwest! I also dated a dude in Las Vegas. 3 hour drive, 45 min flight on Southwest…no big deal for me or them.

Teresa I am not sure about your questions, you would have to ask the Brotha directly on why he dates outside of his race or whatever. Demi Yeah the scenery is tight. I lived in the high desert, so I had to drive through the mountains to get to LA.

ImAPeach404 Traffic is ALWAYS an issue in LA. It could be 10AM on a saturday, and there’ll be traffic for NO DAMN REASON. I lived 85 miles from LA, so it was still at least an hour with no traffic.

Staceye Wassup. I see you stay in my neck of the woods. I can see the ashford dunwoody exit from my window at work. Takes me 15-20 min to get home, even with traffic…I love it. lol

Peach - I’ve always lived in the middle of the city, even when I lived in L.A. so it’s never a far trek for me. My parents live in Baldwin Hills now and I love it because you can get everywhere in 15-20 minutes. Single folks always have to come in town, so if you live there, you’re almost always okay.

I’m lucky that I’ve been strategic in Atlanta. Everywhere I go I can get to in 30 minutes, even OTP. Dated a guy in Chamblee, have chapter meetings in Stone Mountain, work in Vinings…still live in ATL! It’s great.

@page…yeah when i was stationed in cali back in the 90’s i had to drive everywhere…it was crazy…first i was stationed at 29 palms and my lady friend lived in moreno valley…then when i came back i was at oceanside..again moreno valley/riverside area…then i dated a lady that lived in pasadena…and most of the clubs i went to were far from my location…lol

Atlanta metro is NOT a “long distance” relationship! When I married my husband, the closest that we had lived in the previous five years was 387 miles, the farthest was 810. Lots of reasons, and one of the reasons why I am in the category of “LD relationships can work — with the right person.” When I hear people complaining about gas prices and having to drive 20 miles to see someone — you just have to figure that they simply haven’t found the right person, yet.

I’ve also adapted a “I’ll drive, you buy” mentality. I’d prefer to go to his place. He will have to do more to plan the date and keep me occupied since I’m in his hood. And I’d also have the power to leave when I want, instead of having to kick him out. Once I fight through the traffic, I can rest when I get to his place, because then he has to take the reigns. It works for me.

My willingness to drive cross-metro is directly proportional to how much I’m into the girl. Went on a date with a girl from Alpharetta once & quickly decided she was just too d@mn far away. Of course, I’ve been with my current girlfriend (who lives in John’s Creek/Suwanee — even further away) for a year & I gladly drive to her anytime, any day. Truth try telling all those cats out there paying for kids they never wanted these dudes know the the possible consequences of sex…so if they do not want kids to be born, they have 2 options: keep it in their pants or get a vasectomy! If they can’t be down with those choices…then they need to stop bytching about the kid that they “don’t want”. Just because a guy says he doesn’t want the kid, should that excuse him for his responsibilty for being 50% contributor to the child’s conception? Its so easy for a guy to tell a woman he doesn’t want it because after that doesn’t have to deal with the fallout of an abortion (physically or mentally). When a man can go through the agonozing decision on what to do in a situation like that…they need to shut up and be a responsible parent. If that woman that got pregnant is not the type of woamn you would want to mother your child then you shouldn’t sleep with her because things can happen as to the fact of nothing but abstinence is 100% sure! God forbid a man actually take his blame in the situation. So what if you have to pay for a child that YOU made out of your own horniness! That is the least you can do. Is it asking too much for a guy to be there as a good parent for the child that did NOT ask to be here? HMMM!

I have to agree with a few of the bloggers who stated the distance is not a factor if the person at the end of the ride is worth the trip.

I used to feel guily when a friend of mines used to come in from Augusta in the evenings when I got off work and I’d send him back home in the morning when I left for work. Little did I know, he gladly made those trips with few if any complaints. He did ask me to gas him up one morning, and I almost cut him off, but I thought about it and figured WTH, he did drive all the way here this time and last time, and the time before that, then there was my B-day and a few other trips…. not to mention all the work he put in on the long weekends etc…. It was worth my $40 to top him off.

Staceye thats a tired azz argument. A woman was in that bed playing too and she should have known she wasn’t in the type of relationship that should produce a child. Just because she has slit doesn’t mean she should give birth. Most guys don’t mind being there for the child, its the woman they want no part of and why they’d rather leave the whole situation.

I can relate to most of these blogs. I absolutely hate driving which is why I ride MARTA to work most of the time. I have a friend who lives in Rockdale County, I live in South Fulton. Commute is typically 1 hour. Despite the gas and the timely commute, I suck it up b/c he’s worth the drive and it’s also understood that if I trek to Rockdale it’s an overnighter :-)

Truth Most guys don’t mind being there for the child, its the woman they want no part of and why they’d rather leave the whole situation* henceforth the reason I stated his 2 options…if he can deal those…then don’t bytch about the situation! Just because she has slit doesn’t mean she should give birth Just because he has the d!ck does not mean he should make the baby! But you can’t control the logistics as to who gets what sex organ can you? Tis life and you need to accept it and deal with it accordingly! she wasn’t being a responsible adult she is being the responsible adult when she decides to have the baby instead of killing it. Now financially it should be the responsibility of both since they both made it. If they are both broke then the responsible thing to do would be to terminate or adoption. Distance has never been a problem for me, neither has gas prices…so far. The great guy I’m currently dating lives in Athens, 68 miles from me. I enjoy the hour and half drive down Interstate 20…Hwy 138….78…10. I get to check out Athens and he gets to enjoy Atlanta. Love is a journey!

I shole didn’t miss this wacky weather her but all in all glad to be home.

On-Topic My ex and I were originally only 8miles apart. However, I moved out to the boonies of Conyers and made the distance turn into at least a 40 minute drive. It sucked when found yourself filling up every 3 to 4 days but we simply took turns making that ride. (of course it was always a sleepover) I also briefly dated a dude that lived in Alpharetta. Needless to say we don’t talk anymore. That was a 56 mile drive. So i guess it matters how into a person you are on how bad the drive seems. The meeting in the middle would more so work for someone I’m newly meeting; whereas, if i dated a person for a while, I’d want to spend more time together after dinner, so we’d end up at one or the others place anyway.

Melo, You should not be sexing anyone without your own form of protection. A woman could be on the pill and have a diaphram. I still insist on a condom everytime. People make mistakes… People lie, and I am not going to make a bad choice and end up with a kid because the woman I am sleeping with makes a bad choice. In my book, sex without condoms is something reserved for monogamus long term serious relationships (2+ years) or marriage where we are both aware of what will happen should our multiple methods of birth control fail and/or we are prepared to have kids.

And, that is not even getting into the diseases thing. Shooting up some heroin likely feels good, but I am not going to cause myself or anyone else a lifetime of pain for 30 mins to an hour of pleasure. Just a thought man…

JustMe, of course the when the Lakers come to any city the tickets will be sold out! Just like when I first got here, the Suns were playing the Hawks and the game was also sold out.
