Dame Distraction

Women are blamed for many things in society. We seem to be the root cause of many problems that men endure. Now women are blamed for the loss of a football game!

There have been numerous articles, blogs, news reports about Tony Romo’s performance at last week’s game. Many speculated that Jessica Simpson being in the stands cheering him on was a jinx and distraction.

Wow! I thought supporting your man was something girlfriends were supposed to do? A professional football player loses his cool on the field because of a pretty blonde he is dating? Seriously?!

I think that most of the coverage was tongue-in-cheek, but I have wondered if men ever felt that dating women distracted them from their goals. Are women sometimes the reason why men can’t focus and achieve? Do we throw men off their A-game ? If so, is that really our fault or is it a scapegoat kind of thing?

Guys, have you ever had to sideline a woman (pun intended!) because she became a bit of a chore to date? Did she distract you from work, obligations, or your daily life too much? Do you think your decision making abilities are impacted when a pretty woman is in the picture?

Ladies, have you ever dated a guy and realized that you distracted him to the point where you disrupted his life? Has a guy ever told you that you were his weakness - not the good kind?

If you are a football/sports fan, do you think that Romo’s performance is a result of his off-field romances? Are there many athletes that get distracted by females to the point where their head is not in the game?

Mornting

As a former ball player, I can honestly say, your girlfriend watching you play is one of the most annoying things ever.

You run a little faster, you block harder, you go all out to get the sack, the fumble and run it back. I had a game where I broke my foot, trying to impress a girl from the opposing teams school.

Turns out it didn’t matter, as chicks really do dig scars. But it can hype you up as much, if not more, than that family cheering section.

Morning, everyone. :-)

Interesting topic to say the least. Ironically, I was just reading a couple weeks ago about the results of a research study which concluded that exposure to blonde women can actually “dumb down” a man’s aptitude. Think I’m joking? Click here for proof. Someone may wanna run this by Romo before the playoffs arrive.

Good Morning All,

NO I have never had any man say I distracted him so he could not accomplish any goal. I have had one or two say I made them want to work harder, because I had their back. But that is just crazy.

Now in Romo’s case they idea of the jinx or distraction came about because when he was dating Carrie Underwood he had a funky game as well. Alot of sports fans (myself included) believe in jinxs..hence the curse on the Boston Red Sox blah Blah. Anywhoo…I dont think ole Jessica was the cause of his lousy playing (although the punk did cost me a playoff game) I think he just didnt have his head in the game and the Cowgirls played the Eagles cheap and came up short.

I would definitely first ask my man if he wanted me to be at his games or whatever he is partcipating in so as to not assume he would like me there. I am a huge sports fan, espcially basketball, so I actually don’t mind. I had an ex who played in the NBA for a short time and during that time, I would attend the games. He also liked other activities and I would participate also and he partcipated in the things I like also.

I read that article the other day and thought it was absolutely ridiculous that anyone took what came out of TO’s (the fine specimen that he is) mouth seriously. Tongue in cheek duly noted. It’s TO. Romo isn’t that good in the first place. IMHO

Anyway, not proud, but definitely have been a distraction and disruptive. But we stayed married anyway so it’s all good….now.

Morning y’all……

Naw, that gal wasn’t a distraction!!!! It’s the media that tried to make her a distraction! Like T.O. said, she didn’t run any routes, throw any passes, nor catch any….so how could she have had any type of impact????

Contrary to what you said Dan, I personally like it when my girl shows up to see me play sports; I always seem to perform better….ego? probably, ‘cause I sure as hell don’t want to lose in front of her! I wrestled and boxed in college, and that’s the last thing you wanna do is get pinned, or knocked the fvck out in front of ya gal!

From a dating/relationship standpoint, today’s topic brings up one of things I miss most as it relates to my own personal success. I’m not speaking only in the context of career success, but success in life in general (children, community, family, etc.)

I look forward to the day when there is a woman in my life whom I can count on to be there for me, not only in the high points of my life and career, but in the not-so-high points, as well. The reason the media make such a big deal out of Romo and Simpson, is because they both meet their criteria of “hot”. But I’m more inclined to admire a guy like Denzel Washington who, inspite of the power, wealth and prestige he’s garnered over the years in Hollywood, made it a priority to keep his marriage together and be a father to his children.

I consider myself a very focused, disciplined and goal-oriented person and, as such, I doubt that any woman could deter me from what I believe to by my God-ordained purpose. However, I do miss having that support in my corner when I complete a project or get a promotion or raise on my job, when one of my kids gets a good grade on an exam or is struggling in school, or when I’m returning home from a business trip.

Happy Holidays!

I would be truly disappointed (but a little flattered) if my man was distracted by my presence. It would be hard for that to happen with the guys I have dated. They’re so damn focused!! So in order for me to spend time with them I have sat in the library reading their dissertation and making edits on neuroscience papers…WTH?!?

Even with my current SO…I have sat in the hospital lounge when he is called into the hospital for emergencies and helped lay hardwood flooring at his office…all in the name of spending time while not taking away from the things that he HAS to get done.

However, I do know the feeling. When I was on the dance team at Tech and my then boyfriend was in the stands I would jump higher, smile brighter, and dance harder. I wanted to impress him…make him tell his boys…look at my girl down there front and center

Moring ya….I can say I have been a distraction to one guy I dated in the past and it took its toll on the relationship. I was really very fresh and new to GA and leaned on him quite abit. I learned from it and had to move on with regret.

Recently this past year I experienced the shoe on my foot. I didn’t like it and couldn’t continue on with the relationship. My thoughts went back to what my ex of a long time ago felt walked away from it, way too much to deal with to have to be someones all for EVERYTHING.

I Murked in the dating world of Athletes in the past and non these days and always enjoyed going to the games etc. My visits never had a negative impact and I was always asked to come and sometimes bring my parents. The part I enjoyed the most was being down in the hole to meet and greet my man after a hard days work on the field or on the court and I think the feeling was always mutual Or they would have asked me to refrain.

I gotta begin with GO COWBOYS

Yes, that Simpson chick is a distraction and she need NOT show up at the Carolina or Packers game and definitely not the playoffs or SuperBowl!! The quicker she goes POOF the better!! We can’t have anymore games like we did last Sunday!!

Buen Dia to all

Am I a distraction? I don’t think so, but the last line of BS I heard from a dude was that I was getting in the way of him being a “Man of God.” Implying that I am his weakness, he couldn’t control himself. I wasn’t even trying! Had I, I suppose we’d both be going to hell in gasoline drawers!

Personally, I enjoy being driven to distraction by a guy. Keeps me grounded and gives me someone else to focus on besides myself, my work, my family, etc. I can be pretty self-centered, so distractions are welcome here. Haven’t had enough yet….:)

In these busy filled days of life I don’t mind a man being a distraction sometimes and I think its mutual for my dating life. I think its cool to be able to do things with another and helps you stay connect in some form or fashion. Anything in moderation is healthy in my opinion but i am one that requires space and the ability to get gone and do me. I offer the same to my man and when he gets ready to ride I don’t trip or question it really because I don’t want any questions when I ride but there has to be a mustual respect factor involved.

Beautiful, MsU ‘preciate the luv, ya’ll. And yeah, you could definitely consider my earlier sentiments to fall under the ‘Words of Affirmation’ love language (which happens to be one of mine - the other being ‘Physical Touch).

It sort of goes along with a comment I made the other day in that the biggest compliment any person can give to another (I’m speaking in the context of a relationship) is to say to them “I need you” or “I’m glad we’re together” or “I missed you” or something along those lines. Not in a dependency kind of way, but in genuine love and commitment to that person.

Make sense?

Mornin folks…

Women can be a distration in many ways for many reasons!

Often, boxers don’t sleep with their wives or girlfriends prior to a fight, because it causes the boxers to not have as much endurance.

Believe it or not, getting some nuckie the night before a fight and cause a fighter to not be on top of his game!

The same can go for football players, basketball players and baseball players.

In the Tony Romo situation, I think the added pressure of your girl watching you and can cause you to not perform as well ( that particular game was Romo’s worst of the season and resulted in Dallas’ second lost).

When Dallas played Philly last year and Romo had his then GF Carrie Underwood in the stands, he played aweful and Dallas lost as well.

It has even been proven that when a man gets a new girlfriend and she is serving him up the nuckie on the regular, his performance at work, etc. often suffers and his priorities shift.

Why do you think football players are forbidden to date the cheerleaders? Reason, it interferes with the sport.

YES women can be a distraction, only if I let them be! I have never let a woman stand in my way or distract me from personal success. However there are circumstances that take place in life that can cause minor distractions and we all know that the little things can add up. For instance I had a girlfriend who worked later in the morn/ afternoon and she liked to stay up all damn night! M-F she’s up til 4am easy and I had to be at work at 9am. I would go to sleep early while she’d be downstairs watching TV, on the phone… then @ 2:30-3am I’d get the ole elbow-n-da-rib move that meant she wanted to get it. Yes I gave it to her every time and this did cause some late days at work. It got real bad when she started cuttin me off from my good ole 8pm bang session (peak time!) just so she could wake me up late… I know what you thinkin but she HAD THAT GOOOOD!!!!

While I agree success and life is better to share with someone, I have to say that I’m learning to be happy for/with myself.

Yeah, “a good job, honey” with the resulting good time would be nice, but in respect to being SO-less, I have to give myself that encouragement.

In this holiday season, while you may not have another person to celebrate with, you still have someone with you, yourself. Be happy for you, celebrate you, and go into the New Year congratulating yourself.

No one can love a person that doesn’t love themselves. Get good with you, and the rest will take care of itself.

Darrell,it can be inferred from that story, that men gravitate to blondes(or stripper-model type for coloreds)just for sesxcual gratification and nothing else. That has to be tiring and distracting to say the least coz ur nervous system and and ur heart hyperventilates in anticipation. Relationships with women(or men) who care more about their bodies than themesleves as deeper human beings, has to be tough really. Its probably exciting when you are younger, but flames out when u get older.

Now shouldn’t I have worried that I might break my leg doing the beam or trip over a hurdle more so than singing, dancing or acting? I swear.I am azz backwards. Every guy has had that homie that makes a big deal about your new fly azz chic: “Tony’s got a girlfriend, Tony’s got a…” and that shyt is just corny man especially when he knows you’re tryin to keep it on the lo for now. I would not speak to him much after that.

BTW - Sorry to see Parker go down like that Kym good luck in the ‘offs Rep the AFC!!!

Good slow azz rainy friday morning blogsville.

On topic a good woman is never a distraction. I still remember my wife talking to me about goint to college when I was in the army. She was so convinced I could do it, and I did. I doubt I would have without her input.

Darrell I agree yesterday was all in good fun and I’m glad you had a laugh. I did. However, if you don’t leave those Five Languages alone Imma go postal in this camp. Repeat after me ” No Five Languages”.

Anyone seen Legend yet? Its rainy and dreary and I may try to catch it.

Blow

As flattered as I am by your 10:09 post, I can’t quite imagine this scenario playing out:

Darrell and Blow standing at the altar gazing dreamily into each other’s eyes…

(Fade out to the church…)

Preacher:…*”Darrell, do you take…um…Blow Me…to be your…um…lawfully wedded wife?”

Darrell:…now looking angrily at Blow as if to say “You PROMISED me you were going to use your REAL name!”…

Blow:…smiling back at Darrell in a sinister, yet sexy, kinda way…

Darrell:…now visibly upset matter-of-factly says “I do.”…

Preacher: …a’hem…uhhh…do you…umm…Blow Me…take Darrell to be your lawfully wedded husband?…”

Blow: “ABSOLUTELY!!!!”

LOL!

Now dare I say it…I have to root for the Bungals this weekend to beat the Browns.(I hate them both-except those players on my fantasy team..-lord fantasy football can test your loyalty.) Didn’t realize it was a remake of two other movies and the meaning til afterwards!!! I felt silly as hell in the movies with the dead boies all over the place! But Kudos to Will!!!

MSU I read a little a few tears ago and it wasn’t for me. Really all I can do is me.

Beautiful I like that 1006. In these times sometimes a nice word is cool. I have a friend now and she tells me at least once a week how much she “appreciates” me. I’m still trying to figure that one out but it sounds good. LOL

Page you’ve got mail. I hope it makes you laugh. I thought that cat was funny as hell.

KYM I became a fan of the Steelers coach last night. I like his mindset. He’s a hard charger. His interview after the game was tight. BTW, sorry about Fast Willie. Thats gonna sting.

I have read the book, and while it was an interesting read, it only does what most books published these days do…illuminate the obvious with a catchy title.

Who doesn’t know that some people prefer hearing “I love you” and opposed to displays of emotion (as in PDA).

Truth be told, there not much that one can’t figure out with self discovery (the kind buddist/shoalin monks spend a lifetime doing). Taking stock and understanding one’s emotional tendencies is the mark of the enlightened.

While I have bills and can’t spend the whole day chanting for enlightenment, each of us have the opportunity to learn more about ourselves if we take the time to do so. In this hectic day and time, we find more excuses for not committing to self-improvement rather than initiating the process independently.

So, learn how to quiet your mind for even 5 minutes a day, you’d be surprised at what you’d find in there.

The answers to life mysteries lie within each of us, we simply need to access them. —-Buddist Proverb

Uh, GA MAN is an author? Book name please….

*Lady what’s impressive is that cat can carry a movie solo. He doesn’t need other actors, no background, and no script. Just start rolling film and watch him do his thing. He really is talented. I bet he wishes Jada had never made Woo tho. LOL

Darrell did you just say Holla? Man you got me laughing over here before 11am. I bet you have on an A shirt too. LMAO Is it true you and Blow Me are gonna take that walk? Man, you spend some time with her and you’ll be wearing wife beaters and tims within 30 days. That woman is a riot.

Good Morning & Happy Holidays to all.

I didn’t read all of these, but I decided to look today.

Wise, they are making a bid deal about it because it isn’t the first time that he had a bad outing with a girlfriend there. Carrie Underwood is an ex-girlfriend of his and he had a bad game when she was there too.

It seems to be a thing with him. Also, what is not mention is that he has a thumb injury which is important to a QB for gripping and throwing the ball.

The girlfriend talk is just some good natured ribbing.

I played football, and it didn’t bother me. I made it to the NFL (be it only practice squads of MIA, WAS, CLE), but I got paid for it. Most players at the level are married and their wives attend games.

Truth Mike T is just awesome..I am so happy he is the Steeler head coach…He is a keeper. He regulates the players when they need it and he knows the game. I love watching him do post game interviews he doesn’t mince words or make apologies for screw ups…and heaven knows we have had some screw ups recently on Defense. Go Steelers
