Dame Distraction
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Women are blamed for many things in society. We seem to be the root cause of many problems that men endure. Now women are blamed for the loss of a football game!
There have been numerous articles, blogs, news reports about Tony Romo’s performance at last week’s game. Many speculated that Jessica Simpson being in the stands cheering him on was a jinx and distraction.
Wow! I thought supporting your man was something girlfriends were supposed to do? A professional football player loses his cool on the field because of a pretty blonde he is dating? Seriously?!
I think that most of the coverage was tongue-in-cheek, but I have wondered if men ever felt that dating women distracted them from their goals. Are women sometimes the reason why men can’t focus and achieve? Do we throw men off their A-game ? If so, is that really our fault or is it a scapegoat kind of thing?
Guys, have you ever had to sideline a woman (pun intended!) because she became a bit of a chore to date? Did she distract you from work, obligations, or your daily life too much? Do you think your decision making abilities are impacted when a pretty woman is in the picture?
Ladies, have you ever dated a guy and realized that you distracted him to the point where you disrupted his life? Has a guy ever told you that you were his weakness - not the good kind?
If you are a football/sports fan, do you think that Romo’s performance is a result of his off-field romances? Are there many athletes that get distracted by females to the point where their head is not in the game?

Mornting
As a former ball player, I can honestly say, your girlfriend watching you play is one of the most annoying things ever.
You run a little faster, you block harder, you go all out to get the sack, the fumble and run it back. I had a game where I broke my foot, trying to impress a girl from the opposing teams school.
Turns out it didn’t matter, as chicks really do dig scars. But it can hype you up as much, if not more, than that family cheering section.

Morning, everyone. :-)
Interesting topic to say the least. Ironically, I was just reading a couple weeks ago about the results of a research study which concluded that exposure to blonde women can actually “dumb down” a man’s aptitude. Think I’m joking? Click here for proof. Someone may wanna run this by Romo before the playoffs arrive.

Good Morning All,
NO I have never had any man say I distracted him so he could not accomplish any goal. I have had one or two say I made them want to work harder, because I had their back. But that is just crazy.
Now in Romo’s case they idea of the jinx or distraction came about because when he was dating Carrie Underwood he had a funky game as well. Alot of sports fans (myself included) believe in jinxs..hence the curse on the Boston Red Sox blah Blah. Anywhoo…I dont think ole Jessica was the cause of his lousy playing (although the punk did cost me a playoff game) I think he just didnt have his head in the game and the Cowgirls played the Eagles cheap and came up short.

I would definitely first ask my man if he wanted me to be at his games or whatever he is partcipating in so as to not assume he would like me there. I am a huge sports fan, espcially basketball, so I actually don’t mind. I had an ex who played in the NBA for a short time and during that time, I would attend the games. He also liked other activities and I would participate also and he partcipated in the things I like also.

Please feel free to get at the champagne and freshly squeezed OJ. Up to you if you want to add the juice.
I read that article the other day and thought it was absolutely ridiculous that anyone took what came out of TO’s (the fine specimen that he is) mouth seriously. Tongue in cheek duly noted. It’s TO. Romo isn’t that good in the first place. IMHO
Anyway, not proud, but definitely have been a distraction and disruptive. But we stayed married anyway so it’s all good….now.

Morning y’all……
Naw, that gal wasn’t a distraction!!!! It’s the media that tried to make her a distraction! Like T.O. said, she didn’t run any routes, throw any passes, nor catch any….so how could she have had any type of impact????
Contrary to what you said Dan, I personally like it when my girl shows up to see me play sports; I always seem to perform better….ego? probably, ‘cause I sure as hell don’t want to lose in front of her! I wrestled and boxed in college, and that’s the last thing you wanna do is get pinned, or knocked the fvck out in front of ya gal!

From a dating/relationship standpoint, today’s topic brings up one of things I miss most as it relates to my own personal success. I’m not speaking only in the context of career success, but success in life in general (children, community, family, etc.)
I look forward to the day when there is a woman in my life whom I can count on to be there for me, not only in the high points of my life and career, but in the not-so-high points, as well. The reason the media make such a big deal out of Romo and Simpson, is because they both meet their criteria of “hot”. But I’m more inclined to admire a guy like Denzel Washington who, inspite of the power, wealth and prestige he’s garnered over the years in Hollywood, made it a priority to keep his marriage together and be a father to his children.
I consider myself a very focused, disciplined and goal-oriented person and, as such, I doubt that any woman could deter me from what I believe to by my God-ordained purpose. However, I do miss having that support in my corner when I complete a project or get a promotion or raise on my job, when one of my kids gets a good grade on an exam or is struggling in school, or when I’m returning home from a business trip.

On-Topic I can’t say I’ve ever been told i was a distraction to a guy attempting to reach a certain goal….well does it count if i walk in front of the tv naked with banana slices on my ipples and a pineapple ring hanging on the CT, while the SO is playing Madden?

Happy Holidays!
I would be truly disappointed (but a little flattered) if my man was distracted by my presence. It would be hard for that to happen with the guys I have dated. They’re so damn focused!! So in order for me to spend time with them I have sat in the library reading their dissertation and making edits on neuroscience papers…WTH?!?
Even with my current SO…I have sat in the hospital lounge when he is called into the hospital for emergencies and helped lay hardwood flooring at his office…all in the name of spending time while not taking away from the things that he HAS to get done.
However, I do know the feeling. When I was on the dance team at Tech and my then boyfriend was in the stands I would jump higher, smile brighter, and dance harder. I wanted to impress him…make him tell his boys…look at my girl down there front and center

Moring ya….I can say I have been a distraction to one guy I dated in the past and it took its toll on the relationship. I was really very fresh and new to GA and leaned on him quite abit. I learned from it and had to move on with regret.
Recently this past year I experienced the shoe on my foot. I didn’t like it and couldn’t continue on with the relationship. My thoughts went back to what my ex of a long time ago felt walked away from it, way too much to deal with to have to be someones all for EVERYTHING.
I Murked in the dating world of Athletes in the past and non these days and always enjoyed going to the games etc. My visits never had a negative impact and I was always asked to come and sometimes bring my parents. The part I enjoyed the most was being down in the hole to meet and greet my man after a hard days work on the field or on the court and I think the feeling was always mutual Or they would have asked me to refrain.

I gotta begin with GO COWBOYS
Yes, that Simpson chick is a distraction and she need NOT show up at the Carolina or Packers game and definitely not the playoffs or SuperBowl!! The quicker she goes POOF the better!! We can’t have anymore games like we did last Sunday!!
Buen Dia to all
Am I a distraction? I don’t think so, but the last line of BS I heard from a dude was that I was getting in the way of him being a “Man of God.” Implying that I am his weakness, he couldn’t control himself. I wasn’t even trying! Had I, I suppose we’d both be going to hell in gasoline drawers!
Personally, I enjoy being driven to distraction by a guy. Keeps me grounded and gives me someone else to focus on besides myself, my work, my family, etc. I can be pretty self-centered, so distractions are welcome here. Haven’t had enough yet….:)

In these busy filled days of life I don’t mind a man being a distraction sometimes and I think its mutual for my dating life. I think its cool to be able to do things with another and helps you stay connect in some form or fashion. Anything in moderation is healthy in my opinion but i am one that requires space and the ability to get gone and do me. I offer the same to my man and when he gets ready to ride I don’t trip or question it really because I don’t want any questions when I ride but there has to be a mustual respect factor involved.

Beautiful, MsU ‘preciate the luv, ya’ll. And yeah, you could definitely consider my earlier sentiments to fall under the ‘Words of Affirmation’ love language (which happens to be one of mine - the other being ‘Physical Touch).
It sort of goes along with a comment I made the other day in that the biggest compliment any person can give to another (I’m speaking in the context of a relationship) is to say to them “I need you” or “I’m glad we’re together” or “I missed you” or something along those lines. Not in a dependency kind of way, but in genuine love and commitment to that person.
Make sense?

Mornin folks…
Women can be a distration in many ways for many reasons!
Often, boxers don’t sleep with their wives or girlfriends prior to a fight, because it causes the boxers to not have as much endurance.
Believe it or not, getting some nuckie the night before a fight and cause a fighter to not be on top of his game!
The same can go for football players, basketball players and baseball players.
In the Tony Romo situation, I think the added pressure of your girl watching you and can cause you to not perform as well ( that particular game was Romo’s worst of the season and resulted in Dallas’ second lost).
When Dallas played Philly last year and Romo had his then GF Carrie Underwood in the stands, he played aweful and Dallas lost as well.
It has even been proven that when a man gets a new girlfriend and she is serving him up the nuckie on the regular, his performance at work, etc. often suffers and his priorities shift.
Why do you think football players are forbidden to date the cheerleaders? Reason, it interferes with the sport.

YES women can be a distraction, only if I let them be! I have never let a woman stand in my way or distract me from personal success. However there are circumstances that take place in life that can cause minor distractions and we all know that the little things can add up. For instance I had a girlfriend who worked later in the morn/ afternoon and she liked to stay up all damn night! M-F she’s up til 4am easy and I had to be at work at 9am. I would go to sleep early while she’d be downstairs watching TV, on the phone… then @ 2:30-3am I’d get the ole elbow-n-da-rib move that meant she wanted to get it. Yes I gave it to her every time and this did cause some late days at work. It got real bad when she started cuttin me off from my good ole 8pm bang session (peak time!) just so she could wake me up late… I know what you thinkin but she HAD THAT GOOOOD!!!!

While I agree success and life is better to share with someone, I have to say that I’m learning to be happy for/with myself.
Yeah, “a good job, honey” with the resulting good time would be nice, but in respect to being SO-less, I have to give myself that encouragement.
In this holiday season, while you may not have another person to celebrate with, you still have someone with you, yourself. Be happy for you, celebrate you, and go into the New Year congratulating yourself.
No one can love a person that doesn’t love themselves. Get good with you, and the rest will take care of itself.

Darrell,it can be inferred from that story, that men gravitate to blondes(or stripper-model type for coloreds)just for sesxcual gratification and nothing else. That has to be tiring and distracting to say the least coz ur nervous system and and ur heart hyperventilates in anticipation. Relationships with women(or men) who care more about their bodies than themesleves as deeper human beings, has to be tough really. Its probably exciting when you are younger, but flames out when u get older.

I never found my guys to be distractions when I ran track, cheered or did gynastics..but performing on stage was different story. I was nervous that I might mess up. Now shouldn’t I have worried that I might break my leg doing the beam or trip over a hurdle more so than singing, dancing or acting? I swear.I am azz backwards. On the T.O. subject I just think he’s a F’n jerk in this situation. Not his statements which I knew were a joke the moment he said them. But the fact that he took an already over publicied story and made it BIGGER. Every guy has had that homie that makes a big deal about your new fly azz chic: “Tony’s got a girlfriend, Tony’s got a…” and that shyt is just corny man especially when he knows you’re tryin to keep it on the lo for now. I would not speak to him much after that.
BTW - Sorry to see Parker go down like that Kym good luck in the ‘offs Rep the AFC!!!

Blow
As flattered as I am by your 10:09 post, I can’t quite imagine this scenario playing out:
Darrell and Blow standing at the altar gazing dreamily into each other’s eyes…
(Fade out to the church…)
Preacher:…*”Darrell, do you take…um…Blow Me…to be your…um…lawfully wedded wife?”
Darrell:……now looking angrily at Blow as if to say “You PROMISED me you were going to use your REAL name!”…
Blow:……smiling back at Darrell in a sinister, yet sexy, kinda way…
Darrell:……now visibly upset matter-of-factly says “I do.”…
Preacher: …a’hem…uhhh…do you…umm…Blow Me…take Darrell to be your lawfully wedded husband?…”
Blow: “ABSOLUTELY!!!!”

I have read the book, and while it was an interesting read, it only does what most books published these days do…illuminate the obvious with a catchy title.
Who doesn’t know that some people prefer hearing “I love you” and opposed to displays of emotion (as in PDA).
Truth be told, there not much that one can’t figure out with self discovery (the kind buddist/shoalin monks spend a lifetime doing). Taking stock and understanding one’s emotional tendencies is the mark of the enlightened.
While I have bills and can’t spend the whole day chanting for enlightenment, each of us have the opportunity to learn more about ourselves if we take the time to do so. In this hectic day and time, we find more excuses for not committing to self-improvement rather than initiating the process independently.
So, learn how to quiet your mind for even 5 minutes a day, you’d be surprised at what you’d find in there.
The answers to life mysteries lie within each of us, we simply need to access them. —-Buddist Proverb

Good Morning & Happy Holidays to all.
I didn’t read all of these, but I decided to look today.
Wise, they are making a bid deal about it because it isn’t the first time that he had a bad outing with a girlfriend there. Carrie Underwood is an ex-girlfriend of his and he had a bad game when she was there too.
It seems to be a thing with him. Also, what is not mention is that he has a thumb injury which is important to a QB for gripping and throwing the ball.
The girlfriend talk is just some good natured ribbing.
I played football, and it didn’t bother me. I made it to the NFL (be it only practice squads of MIA, WAS, CLE), but I got paid for it. Most players at the level are married and their wives attend games.

Darrell my whole take on the communication is me being anything other than me AINT GONNA LAST. Maybe a woman needs me to be more sympathetic, and I can be to a point, but I’m only going so far. I go with natural selection. I could meet a woman TODAY nd we’d be able to communicate so well that the things we don’t agree on would be of no consequence. Now that I can do forever. MY .02 I hope you collect royalties on 5 languages because you do more promos than the author. Good luck with that.
Kym where did he come from? If someone wants to see a real pro coach catch ESPN before noon. You know they replay shyt till the tape breaks. Ol boy needs to run for president. Dam Obama and Hillary.

Good Morning Everyone
I read Chapman’s book to see what the hype was all about, and it didn’t do anything for me. His marketing strategy is working though. Create a buzz phrase, “Love Languages”, and convince people that knowing these like the commandments will change their lives. Straight brand recognition…Marketing 101. If it helped you, then go for what you know, but I’ll look within.

@ Sis Staceye - ok ladies…we now know how to get a man’s attention from the Playstation That’d be what exactly:
Let me tell you what i did lastnight. Plan B (shopping) = Not having any luck finding Wii. First I bought the Playstation system, then i decided to buy the ‘drivers wheel’ for all racing/nascar games,i got the eye toy camera for my kinetic workout game and antigravity snowboarding, of course wireless remotes along with 4 virtual games. You think i’ve created/built my version of Wii-playstation for lack of not having the actual Wii? Lol

Dan thats the big question mark. Injuries. When you see some of these great athletes getting carted off never to return as they left, its a shame. look at Alonzo mourning. Its over. Football is the worst tho because no guaranteed contracts. One wrong twist and your thru.

Please enlighten me, because I’m at a total loss as to what relevance that has to the discourse you and I have been engaged in.
Perhaps if I disappeared for a month or so that would make me more esteemed in your eyes? Or, is “occasionally” popping in and out of here a virtue to be pursued so that I’m not seen as someone who is on here “all the time” and, thus, have no “career” to keep me occupied during the day?

All due respect…
Whether I clock in or out, don an apron, mask, vest, or gloves, my job and the work I do is to be respected.
Showing any signs of disrespect to the millions of people doing whatever it takes to feed their families, keep a roof over their heads or simply eat, is where I draw the line.
Contrary to popluar belief and the fallacy of the American Dream, intellect is not respected in this country, connections are. Whether you grew up on one side of town, konw someone of import, or joined the right organization has no relevance to the person you are.
Not a year ago, I was pushing a broom, clocking in and out, and while it bothered me to do so, it was a humbling experience from this perspective: it showed me that no one is beneath doing anything to survive.
I knew people that were going to school for advanced degrees, a lady that has a CPA, and they were all doing the same things as I was. I was fortunate enough to know some of the right people through, well, just being me, and they spoke on my behalf regarding my intellect and work ethic. And regardless of my job or title, I am still the same man.
So to anyone, and I mean anyone that would show that lack of humility to assume that your job defines anything else but your option of lifestyle is where I draw the line.
Now you can speak to a lot of the good/great things you do in life for others, but that statement Darrell tells me more about your motivation than anything you’ve said since you’ve been on here.
That was classless, egregious, and hositle. Is it any wonder Black folk can’t move forward in this world, when those of that make it, forget about those that don’t have the access and opportunity to change their stations in life?

Blow me…lol..I said that it wasn’t personal. I am just giving him something to think about. They are just jokes..ha, ha, joke, joke, ha.
Seriously, though, (not about you personally), sometimes your friends can see something in a potential mate that you cannot because you are blinded by the bliss that is love. I have told all my friends to have at least 18 months between the meeting and marriage of someone.
There are real phyisological reasons behind it. Your body produces endorphines and other hormones that gives you that happy, high feeling that we call “being in love.” It takes about 12-18 months to get off that high and get back to “normal”. Then you can see the nit-picky things that annoy you. If they bother you before you get married, they will bother you afterwards as well.
I’ve been married for 8 years, so I speak from experience.

Women ARE evil. I can prove it.
We know that women like two things, mens’ time and your money, therefore…
women = time x money
Now time equals money, so
women = money x money
Money is the root of all evil, so
money = square root of evil
By squaring both sides of the equation,
money squared = evil
Now go back to the equation
women = money x money women = money squared = evil

“Care to elaborate….”
Yeah, I care to.
“Is it any wonder Black folk can’t move forward in this world, when those of that make it, forget about those that don’t have the access and opportunity to change their stations in life?”
“Black folk” or not, neither your nor anyone else’s ability to “move forward” ought to be predicated on what words I or anyone else says to them, and in a BLOG no less.
Your elaborate, yet misguided post makes one helluva presumption in that you infer that I have absolutely NO sensitivity, let alone affinity, for those “black folk” who are struggling to realize their own success. How the heck did you derive such a mischaracterization of me based on a facetious comment I made and it wasn’t even directed at you.
How can you presume to tell me who I’ve “forgotten” about? Or do I now have to defend myself by enumerating the various charities and social organizations I support with my time and resources, just to prove that I “really do care about black folk”? Come on, man. You took this one way the hell outta context.
But, I can’t help but wonder. As upset as you are at my little “time clock” remark, do you get just as upset when you see people referring to each other “n*a” in this very blog? Maybe I missed it, but I can’t recall you waxing eloquently about that.

I dont know the Bucs and the Aints are hanging tough. I full expected the aints to come back strong this year after they got so close but now Reggie B is out for the season. I know who is to be fear in the playoffs right now and that is Jacksonville. David G has the pimp hat on at the press conference and he is tossing them up there wit the best of them. Drew and Taylor are playing well. Hell they got my boys in the cold. Taylor is going to get the playoff nod since Parker is out.*

2CPTG© At best P’s proof was 1/3 correct. Not only did he not include the null hypothesis, he did not prove equivalence of women and evil. He just showed (kind of) that women => evil. He must still show that evil => women in order for the biconditional to hold. P, no QED for you youngster. You are commanded to retake basic set theory (for the 7th time). No argument starting (NAS)
But I don’t have the disaffinity for the use of the word n*a. I feel like 1) it’s a colloquialism (from a language/syntax POV) and that 2) it’s an ingroup association that delineates it’s users from the larger societal constraints, and in that it can be empowering (from a sociological perspective).

Dan Actually, the biconditional is not an either/or (disjunction) relationship. Biconditional occurs when a conditional AND its converse (not inverse) are true at the same time.
P <=> Q (biconditional) is defined as P => Q AND Q => P

SlimOne, I am hollering over here. I remember as a teenager I use to really like dry humping. YOU ARE STUPID!
My boss didn’t get me anything again this year. Oh well, can’t make a scrooge like him give anything. All he knows how to give is a damn hard time at work.
Thanks Beautiful. I’ll let you guys know how my math lesson/Christmas present w/my daughter turns out.

Now I dont go in for all that other love mumbo jumbo but I do know about astrology. So here this is taken from my favorite astrological book Black Love Signs:
Earth signs: Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn. You’re down to earth, practical, and cautious. Basically, you’re always the same — predictable, reliable, grounded, (Ground-ed, ground, earth — get it?)
Fire signs: Leo, Sagittarius, Aries. Like the element of fire, you’re unpredictable, feisty, aggressive, impulsive, and hard to control. (To put it more bluntly, it’s going to be your way or no way at all!)
Water signs: Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces. In reality, people generally love to be close to lakes, river, oceans, and ponds. If you’re a water sign, people love to be close to you because you’re reassuring, emotional, intuitive, soothing, and nonthreatening.
Air Signs: Gemini, Libra, Aquarius. If you’re an air sign, you’re independent, aloof, analytical, intriguing and very hard to keep up with. You must have freedom. Like air itself, you cannot be contained, harnessed, or backed into a corner. If this happens, you’ll simply disappear.
From a practical standpoint, earth and water signs make beautiful mud together. And fire and air make a bonfire that’s hard to put out.
Compatible mates:
Aries works best with Sagittarius, Leo, Gemini, and Aquarius.
Taurus is compatible with Virgo, Capricorn, Cancer, and Pisces.
Gemini is more suited to Leo, Aries, Aquarius, and Libra.
Cancer is better with Pisces, Scorpio, Virgo, and Taurus.

The rain - rain - (rain) - on my face In the rain - rain - to hide my pain - on my.. Hey I like to go out in the rain - rain - (rain) On my face - in the rain - rain - to hide my pain - on my.. Hey I like to go out in the..
[Verse 1] See I’m a single black male, dark hair, dark eyes Long walks through a park and a lot of them lives I’m a little bit shaded by a lot of what I see So if you’re still interested you should come get at me Cause I’m tired of getting shot down, put down and dissed I wanna be picked up, held tight and kissed But things like these don’t happen to dudes like me Because I’m more Coldplay than I am Ice-T They say that good girls love bad guys and that might be But a bad girl with a good guy, that’s unlikely So what’s a man to do to get to hold hands with you? Do I talk s** and stand and look hard with my crew? I don’t know what to do, so I drown in my drink It helps to numb the pain, cause when I sit and think about it Eyes get clouded, thoughts get crowded (thoughts get clouded) So I’ma sit right here, wait for you to talk about it In the.. c’mon
[Verse 2] Said she had a boyfriend, just trying to be nice But I’ve heard the same lines from different women all night Too easy let down, but don’t let it get you down S**, that’s what my boys told me, but end of the night I was still sitting lonely, if only I could find ‘em Without all the drama, without the one-liners Excuse me miss, hey mam, you got a man, what’s ya name? I’m in my mid-twenties so enough with the games Simply put I think you’re stunning, and what about some kids? A couple dogs, a couple cars, a four bedroom crib? Look, I’m not trying to jib, I’m just speaking from the heart But we can start with a drink if you wanna play it smart She looking at my boy who got two kids at home and I know how it goes, here’s his number telephone and He does the girl’s turf, and I know you’re smelling on him But every b*** needs a dog, so I guess that’s why you want him
[Verse 3] I try to be settle, but even flirting got me shooked I would never get a smile, all I got was dirty looks And my self-esteem is low enough, I got teased growing up And what I do, I beat ‘em up, but that only made me tough It didn’t get me girls, or notes in class Same girls who used to tell, when I would pinch their a* But if another boy did it, then they would get gritty So I pretended the handball was their face when I hit it And I admit it’s part the reason why I’m do em like I do And women in my life, there has only been two My mother being one, and the other one is done So my philosophy on dating is; ain’t no fun Cause they come and they go, and even if they don’t cum They still have to go, girl I give the best head But you just wouldn’t know, cause you stuck up in some diddy But even if you dissed me, I ain’t mad
Go on do that yo with yo pretty as.. You looked better coming.. No wait, you looked better going than you did coming Her a* is amazing. High five for Jesus Keep making ‘em like that Just make ‘em with half a brain so maybe they’ll talk to

5fromfifty We all know that the LOVE of money is the root of all evil. We all learned it at home and in sunday school too. lol We were all just joking around because it was fun to see a couple other people who know and appreciate math the way we do. The Women are Evil “proof” is just a JOKE, and we all responded to with that in mind. I don’t think any of us actually took it seriously, except you I suppose. Lighten up man, it’s Christmas. Oh wait, technically, it’s Saturnalia. Can you tell us what the Bible says about that?

Saturnalia is the feast at which the Romans commemorated the dedication of the temple of the god Saturn, which took place on 17 December. Over the years, it expanded to a whole week, up to 23 December.

Beautiful Yes. In it’s most basic form, Saturnalia is a celebration of the winter solstice, which designates the day with the least amount of sunlight. This day usually occurs on the 23 of December. When Emperor Constantine converted to Christianity, he made it is objective to convert the rest of the Roman empire. He knew that if you forced religion on people, then they would reject it, so he chose the celebration of christ’s birth to be at a time when a pagan holiday already existed. This allowed people to accept christianity while retaining their pagan traditions.
Beautiful you’re so smart. Give me a holiday hug. Got some mistletoe over here too. ;-)

Good afternoon to all,
I hope that all had or is having a wonderful holiday.
I’ve been married for 8 years and I can honestly say that I haven’t been “in love” every single day of those eight years. However, I have loved her everyone of those days.
Love is definitely a part of marriage, but not the only thing.
Its virtually impossible to be “in love” forever. The human body would be unable to sustain itself.

Good Morning, all..
As I said, I have only been married 8 years. That would be a long time if we lived in Hollywood, CA.
My dad gave a speech during our reception and mentioned the following things: Love, Respect, and Trust.
He said : Love may have brought you together, but trust and respect will help you stay together. He went on to say that life will but into the love aspect of the relationship. For example, bills, kids, job etc has a way of interfering with your plans. Trust and respect in each other must be there to keep working towards a common goal.”
My wife and I remember those words and they came into play as soon as we got back from the honeymoon. As soon as we returned from Barbados (beautiful beaches, btw) she was called to go to Pittsburgh to assist in a trial. We returned from Barbados on Sunday and Monday afternoon she was in Pittsburgh.
Life happens.
BTW, My parents have been married for 46 years so, his words may have been one of the best gifts that we got on our wedding day. He knows from experience.

Morning folks!
I see folks are bootleg blogging over here.
First of all before I get to the pleasantries, let me clear this up:
GA Man “i know who told you that and that person needs to woman up and say it….when/if you read my book you will see for yourself..it is no way like she said it” I SAID IT but I also said that I peeped a draft and I was going to check out the final version to see if you took my well intended advice. I said that some of the quotes I read were condescending to women and if you still have some of the same stuff that I recommended you change in the book, then I will say it again.
However, if you did take what I said to heart without an attitude like the first time I said it then you may have a good book on your hands. But when my friends ask me something, I’m not going to lie…just like when you asked me to check out your draft, I did not lie to you.
now that we got that out the way…
My Christmas was very nice, saw The Great Debaters last night and LOVED IT! Saw I am Legend Christmas Eve and I screamed all through the movie. Went on a WONDERFUL date last night and now I’m going to work out so I can have a nice lunch with some friends.

Poppa i wish relationships weren’t so damn hard. why does it feel like a second job? and i agree about NOT being in love everyday, but still loving the person you’re with. and why does your partner get upset when you want a break, time alone or a week away? i feel like i’m being selfish sometimes, but i’m only human. besided what you mentioned, married couples needs to be more patient, listen more and hold hands more often.
Demi you silly, but your right. marriages aren’t lasting past the five year mark. newly weds don’t know it, but the first five is always the toughest. if you can get through that, then it’s worth working for.

Marriage..same thing…the ideal marriage or model for marriage changes with the time as well…now i love the leave it to beaver model..but those times are gone….let me find something to post

Good Morning Everyone
Beautiful In addition to the things already mentioned, I think a good marriage takes team work. Both people have to determine what makes the marriage work and commit to doing those things.

Beautiful…
I think that life’s challenges makes it harder. However, in my case, it has never felt like a second job. However, we have no kids. I’ve just us.
I think that many guys (or maybe its just me) need that time away from the lady. I had a life before we met and I want to keep some aspects of it. My wife never gets upset when I want time with the fellas. She schedules time with her girls. After all, we both had friends before we met. We understand that.
I think that you have to know who you are marrying. Some couples are not big on PDA (Public Displays of Affection). Different kinds of people make for different kinds of relationships (hence the love language books). What works for one couple may not work for another. Holding hands works only if its in their personalties.
Personally, we don’t do alot of the PDA. We both understand that we that we are giving of our time to each other is precious. Wasted time is the one thing that no one can ever replace. Especially, given our situation, she is an attorney and I am currently in law school. Time is precious.
Now, when we are behind closed doors, its definitely something else.

Rell…I cosign yoru post.
Things change. Just think about how things were for you growing up. Our parents didn’t have to deal with internet predators, myspace, text messaging, etc. Parenting had to evolve to protect your children.
Why shouldn’t relationships and marriage? There are things that are different now than before. The core stays the same, but everything else changes with the times. There was a time that men didn’t want their wives to work. Now, its almost a necessity. The times changed. Women go out and get degrees, and enter the workfore now. June Cleavers is just about extinct.

i think June Cleaver still exist. the one problem i see with that is the number of years you guys want her to be JC. my moms next door neighbor, Vicky, is JC. But once her three kids graduated from high school, she was lost. i feel sorry for her. she has picked up some activities over the years and a little job, but she feels incomplete.
what would you do, as her husband, different in this case in the beginning and after the kids are gone?

Beautiful…
Since she has kids that have graduated HS, she more mature and comes from a time in which that was expected.
Its not expected anymore. Times are different. There a few Buckhead Bettys out there (Atlanta’s version of Desperate Housewives). However, the economy its tougher and tougher for a middle class family to have a housewife. Two incomes are pretty much needed these days. That’s why I say June Cleaver is extinct.
Also, I think the younger that you look the fewer JCs. Your mom’s neighbor has grown kids. The younger generation want some other purpose than just her kids. No woman that I know wants to sing the lyrics to Mary J. Blige’s “I ain’t gon cry no mo” From Waiting to Exhale.
As far as knowing the number of years, it goes back to knowing who you marry. If you marrry someone that want a woman to stay home and JC, you have to make it known that you have goals and aspirations of your own.

Every generation says how the younger generation is so much worse than theirs was, but I do agree that their are some questionable tendencies in the generations coming up. You can even hear it in some of the songs. Cats talking about buying chains, cars, houses, shoes, gucci, dolce and gabbana…SHOPPING! “Hard” cats basically talking about shopping. lol

I agree 100%..which I why I’ve volunteered as a Big Brother. Its a shame that kids today want to shoot up a school because they were taunted. High School has always had bullies and those being bullied. Kids shooting up school and malls (as was done a couple a weeks ago) is a relatively new phenomenon.
As far as men needing to stick around, I agree.
However, Men going for the pack of cigarettes and disappearing is not a new phenomenon at all. It not right, but people act like its something new. It isn’t though.

I agree, but I’ve also noticed that alot of songs are just commericial. Like you stated, name brands are mentioned alot. How many bottles of Crystal and Moet have been sold because of hip hop? Air Force Ones? Even Busta Rhymes was pumping a commerical with “Pass the C….”
Commericial radio = commericial songs.
You can go back a few years and take a look at the legendary Run-DMC and “Their Addidas” to see commercial music.

shyt went downhill after the “Boomer” generation……..and since we’re speaking “real” here……a lot of old heads have also said integration also contributed to this mess!
By Poppa Grande
December 27, 2007 2:44 PM | Link to this
I think integration has had a part.
However, there is a sissyfication of America in general. It not related just to our race. Boston had a bill to outlaw dodge ball. Monopoly now has a version with only debit cards and no cash!! (How will kids learn to deal with cash?) As I stated before, kids shooting up the joint because they got picked on.
When I was coming up, Sweet 16 parties were for girls. Now, MTV has this show that feeds the beast when it comes to creating a nation of spoiled little kids and males have these parties as well. Why give a 15 year old a Mercedes?
Sidenote:
There are plenty of good kids, but the bad ones get the press. But that is life…

Education statistics are among the most ominous. 50% of African American children won’t graduate with their class, quite a bit more than that for males only. Other statistics such as crime are side effects of that. Upon entering kindergarten, the average AA child will be developmentally 1 year behind peers of other ethnicity, with the gap widening to 4 years by high school. Is pop culture a contributor to such as this by providing such a poor role model? Perhaps.

The penalties are protection. I think that the owners want to protect the guy that they have decided to pay $100 million dollars like Peyton.
I don’t agree with it all, but I do think that some protection is needed. All you have to do is talk to some of the older players and most players don’t want to end up like many of them.

Beautiful Seems you’re getting pretty good at the topic suggestion thing. Why do I get the feeling you’ve probably taken some of Wise’s or Bella’s topics. LOL!
What are your dating resolutions for 2008?
Um, I can’t say I really have any other than just try to always have a good time. I do think I probably need to tweek my Dating-Give-Up meter….meaning, knowing when all the “benefits of a doubt” have run out. I’m guilty of always assuming there’s some good in all of us. Frankly, we all aren’t as sweet as I can be…we all don’t have the best intentions.
Is appearance/how someone looks really that important? Appearance is important but I don’t expect a person to look like they just finished up a professional photo shoot. Just like, I believe it was Chris Rock or Dave Chappelle, but if you aren’t a bum don’t wear the bum uniform. Vice versa Clean nails & brushed hair on a dude is definitely a big thing for me.
New Years Eve Plans So far I have none. Seems like everyone is saying the same thing….They don’t know what they are going to do. I’d actually be cool just having some champagne at the crib with a few friends tripping out.

Yes to a certain degree, if I can manage to get cleaned up and put on clean clothes, I expect that you should do the same, and be well groomed and smelling good. Looks …….. well beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and to me looks are not everything

Happy B-Day GA!
My dating resolution is to be out there more. I’m a homegirl and love to stay inside. I’ll be doing more clubbin’, events, etc.
How someone looks isn’t important to me. If he portrays himself as a protector and the vibe is right, it’s a go.
I let a guy go because of the things he wanted to do in the bedroom. I just couldn’t do it. Plus, the brotha snored too loud! It was really bad.
No plans for me on Monday. But I’m a last minute person. At 6pm I wouldn’t be surprised if i jumped up and headed out the door.
Cheers!

y’all gotta read that story about tatiana (tiger). im furious! how dare they blame this on the 3 boys. the wall was not tall enough. period! it should have been 16 feet high NOT 12!!!

While the zoo’s construction was inadequate to completely contain the tigers, I find the story a poetic object lesson in that the boys taunting the animal considered themselves completely safe to commit such harassment. It’s sad that both the boys and the tiger had to suffer, but the cause wasn’t inadequate containment, it was harassment by the boys. The lesson to learn is: hassle the beast, pay the price.

The enclosure in question was built in 1940 and never before has such an attack took place. There was human blood and a shoe found inside the enclosure, indicating that at least one of the boys went over the fence of their own volition. In legal terms, that would constitute negligent or intentionally tortious on behalf of the boys.
The animals are harassed by thousands?! Tell me, have you ever seen anyone harassing the animals at Zoo Atlanta? If they did, I’d hope they’d be removed from the grounds immediately, if not beat up by other zoo patrons.
