Bearer of bad habits

My friend Abby just realized this month that she’s gaining weight because of her adorable boyfriend Jake. Simply going out to eat all the time, taking extra bites of his food here and there, and consuming the cookie cakes he keeps surprising her with is not helping her stay trim!

So she’s now trying to lose weight not because Jake (who is very thin) has asked her to or made comments about it. He loves her just the way she is. She simply cares for him, and he’s inspired her to look the best she possibly can now that she’s with him.

Abby told me it’s kind of ironic that she’s trying to slim down for Jake — because he’s sort of the cause of her weight gain! Not that she’s shirking responsibility for her eating habits, but she’s realized that all she and Jake do together is eat! She recently explained to him that their relationship can’t “revolve around food.”

She’s built one “free” day into her diet when she can eat whatever she wants, and that’s one of the days she and Jake go out, so she doesn’t feel as though she has to order a salad every time. The rest of the week she’s a drill sergeant about her diet, and she’s doing great!

Have you ever started gaining weight because you picked up a boyfriend or girlfriend’s eating habits? Or because of an SO who was a fabulous cook? Have you ever had to explain to someone that your metabolism just doesn’t function like theirs?

What about the opposite? Have you ever been inspired to lose weight because of a loved one’s healthy lifestyle (NOT because he or she guilted you into it)? Can someone’s healthy eating/exercise habits rub off just as easily as the not-so-healthy? Do you think it’s easy to co-exist with someone whose lifestyle habits are drastically different than yours?

What about other bad habits you might pick up from someone you’re dating? Have you ever been with someone so long that you started to mirror an unusual habit or vice?

Good Morning All,

I am not even going to comment on this topic same would you date your mate if she got fat stuff. Additional proof that a male blogger would be refreshing. But it will allow for some comedy relief when all the lurkers come out. Speaking of comedy relief..HOW ABOUT THOSE FAKECONS? Oh I have been laughing all night and making co-workers mad early this morning…Petrino leaves the Fakecons with only 3 games left…Classic.

Sure love does make you gain wieght usually…..You become alot more comfortable sometimes. It has to be in you to keep yourself looking good..i.e. hair done & nails, weight control. But I’ll be checking out the TRAMP STAMP section today. lol

Morning all

I think the worst habit I picked up from a guy I was dating was “left-handed cigarettes” Luckily I was able to stop when I stopped talking to him.

Bella tell your friend she can still go out to eat with her guy friend whenever she feels like it, she just needs to eat in moderation. You do not have to deprive yourself of food you love or even dining out - just make healthier choices or do not eat the whole meal. Enjoy half at the restaurant and box the rest up for later.

As far as the cookie cakes - she can eat a piece with him and take the rest to work. I’m sure her greedy co-workers would be happy to get rid of it for her!

Bella

Not to start an argument, but why is he the source of her wieght gain? I don’t see where he force fed her anything.

But on topic. Yeah, I’ve picked up a few unfortunate habits from prior SO, and they’ve picked up some of mine.

One ex called and told me she almost broke up with her future husband becuase of my habit of blurting out honest responses to statement (see above comments).

But if you spend enough time around people, you’ll pick up something: good and bad.

I swim and play sports so I’m lucky that I don’t gain weight. But I also watch what I eat and how much. I’ll date these girls who will demolish a huge plate of food while I may eat half - and I know this isn’t the girl for me.

One of the other AJC Blogs yesterday was about diet making the point that, in reality, we ALL are on a diet ALL our lives. And it’s true - shame enough people don’t realize that.

IF anything, I would hope I helped girls I’ve dated by showing them the “eat to live” philosophy. Not to say we can’t enjoy food (because I know I do), but food should be a relative small part of life IMO. When we used to splurge, then we went on a hike or something - it balanced out.

Kym - The falcons are a joke. However to take sum time to look at the dirty Burg steelers of yours. With the whole world watching and pullin for you guys (cause everyone hates the Pats right?) what happens??? You go for it on 4th & goal from the 1yrd and you do a end-around, wide receiver reverse!!??!??!? W-T-F!!!

This is really a non-issue for me, as I have to really work to gain weight. However, I have taken notice of my eating habits recently. The guy I’ve gone on several dates with recently is a gym rat and watches what he eats. I always order friend foods and he’s always asking for a substitution for the fried stuff. I have to admit that it makes me more aware.

On a side note, I clicked on the MOMania blog and her question of the day is if you have a “tramp stamp” LMAO!

Who in the hell wants to deal with a fairweather fan based like the Fakecons have? Did you see the stands Monday night? Ghost town.

900k First off I will be the first to admit that our Defense screwed us over big time that game. They got caught looking way to many times. As for that play the ball should have been in Ben’s hands for the QB sneak or in Davenports for those power pushovers he is no Bus..but he has strong legs. Either way dont hate on my Steelers because the Fakecons are a bunch of losers. 75 years and 5(count it) Superbowl Trophies(The Shiny Shiny baby) what the Fakecons got? 42 years..32 losing seasons.. no shiny shiny..—-Oh yeah Pats we will see you in the playoffs. What up ya! I tend to watch what I eat and lead a pretty active lifestyle so I eat what i want but anything in moderation is good. No excuses here, plus the fact I can’t deal with my horses being an over weight person or they will buck me right into a tree. I tend to stay active and want to look good for me and with the money invested in clothing for career and such I tend to want to stay in them and enjoy a great view when looking in the mirror. Being tall and carrying it well helps also. LOL

My weight stays fairly constant unless I’m trying to gain or lose, that doesn’t happen much though. I don’t have many comments for today’s topic. I haven’t gained weight as a result of dating. Most of my relationships have been long-distance, so we were not going out together all the time.

I would LOVE to comment on what I missed yesterday, but I’m just going to have to let it go and start fresh.

On a somber note: To the families of the injured motorcyclist, the man who lost his life, and the driver of the car in the accident on Macland Road last night, my prayers are with you. I know that your loved ones will be greatly missed.

Rell Petrino is a quitter. Q-U-I-T-T-E-R. And a liar. He took a job, signed a contract…he has to work with what he has, even if it’s not what he expected. All day long at work, we are expected to adapt and make it happen, for a LOT less than $24M. A true leader can build his team to greatness, they do not abandon the team when times get rough, ESPECIALLY not when there is still work to be done. What makes a man think that he can quit in the middle of a job? Life is hard sometimes, but as somebody said last week, adversity introduces a man to himself, or something like that. Life is going on, the wheels are still spinning and you get off in the middle of the ride?? RIGHT AFTER you promised NOT to do so??

If you’d like to know what kinds of things make a woman (or people in general) lose respect for a man, it’s this kind of thing right here.

@Foots I agree with your 9:58. Unfortunately, there are some who FAIL their way to SUCCESS. Take the former CEO of Home Depot, Robert Nardelli. Home Depot saw it’s smallest net gain in 9 years under his leadership. He was consequently fired, but not without receiving his severance worth $210mil. Then a few months ago, Mercedes announced that it was selling off the Chrysler part of the company. Guess who was named CEO of the new Chrysler company…Nardelli. Straight FAILING his way to SUCCESS.

You know, speaking of weight and dating… I plan on having weight loss surgery after the first of the year. I’d like to find a dude now b/c I’d rather date a guy who likes me as I am, not because I’m small(er). I’ve been blessed because I am very easy on the eyes, I’m funny, open minded, and a beast in the kitchen, but I’m a big girl. Some dudes may feel this cuts my attractiveness in half while some dudes love it and wouldn’t have it any other way.

Unfortunately gaining weight during a relationship, due to whatever reasons, is an issue with some folks but has any one ever been turned off due to their mate losing weight in a relationship?

GA whoever thinks their beating the PATS is dillusional. Those boys are a machine. However, they better not play the * OAKLAND Raiders*. LOL

ARED a part of that after 25 thing is a myth. The thing is if we slow down our metabolism slows at any age. Look at all these obese kids. The hardest part is watching what we eat as we age because those foods we could get away with when we was shooting hoops stack up on us while where sitting in the lounger. LOL Also, I’d like to supervise your pole dancing class to make sure its done right.

I’ll be lurking for much of the day, but wanted to quickly interject this off topic question to the ladies:

“In a relationship, what is the biggest age difference you would consider dealing with? Five years? Ten? Fifteen? Is age really “just a number” or is the level of maturity more important to you?”

Foots, I disagrre with ur Petrino comments.I would’nt stay if it were me.Remember folks that an employer would not even think twice if they wanted to get rid of u.Petrino needs to take care of his own interets. They promised him MV,and the moment he was not there, the team folded. What ‘team’ is it that relies on just one palyer.Bad recruiting obviously, so why should Petrino be blamed for Rich Mackay’s poor decision making? DasV there was the reply to someone’s offense to a woman forgoing motherhood by choice….I stated thatis a guy does not want to be a father he should keep his joint his his pants…and the reply was for a woman to get an abortion because it’s only $300. Its funny how guys only see the cost of the procedure….and not the psychological effects of it. If it were there bodies have to have that done and their conscience of taking a human life they would speak a different tune. Its easy to say have an abortion because you are not ready in any sense. Maybe she is not either…but would rather deal with the consequences of her actions and not treat abortion like it is a wart removal…simple and non-scathing!

Melo, id go so far as to say the Falcons didn’t rely on Vick. We had no idea just how much he covered up until he was gone! He made a lot of people look better by taking some of the heat off of them and causing the defense to focus more on him. As we can see now, when there is no #7 to worry about, you can focus on your coverage.

Preacher Truth Rumor is he didn’t even buy a ticket, he paid the pilot right there on the spot.

LOL!! I can just see that visual. We need For Real to come with a Petrino Skit…

Dreams You are right about Nardelli. You have to admit that they are smart to get their golden parachutes lined up and ready before Day 1 of the new job.

Darrell To me, age is more than a number. I have dated 8 years my senior before, I was much younger though. Now, I’d prefer someone 6 years older or less. If love strikes me with a man 15 years older than me, then fine. But it would take me a while to get used to the idea.

melo Disagreement is fine. To me, a man is known by his word. Breaking your word as a REAL man is a no-no. My thing is, we all go through hard times. Not ONCE did I quit. I didn’t even have time to slow down a little if life through me a curve ball. You never know how strong you are until you have to go through something and come out better on the other side. Listen to me when I say I will never do it again. Talk about confused! Didn’t know what he wanted - was back and forth each week… for 3 days he couldn’t get enough of me, the next 3 days he needed some time. darrell i have dated older guys before. the largest difference was 14 years. i was in my twenties at the time. in hindsight, i think there were some major differences that would not lead me to make that choice again. once it gets over a 5/6 year age difference there can be some fundamental issues at hand. i’m not a big fan of younger men…lol. i tried dating someone 5 years younger once and like peach said, he was confused. nowadays, i try to stay right around my age 33-37 is perfect.

He made Billions for Home Depot and as far as GE is concerned Ole Jackie didn’t want him as CEO bc he was going to do away with the Jack Welch method and Jackie Boy ego wouldn’t go for it.

mAPeach404, maybe thats what i meant to say but u said it better.

Foots, im not quitter and i see ur point in that adversity makes a person better.Im proof of that.I just think there was ill feeling in this Faclons camp, Petrino came with ill conceived college ideas and could not hanlde prof. players and then if he wantd to quit, he should have been upfront with Arthur. He asked him twice if he was in it next year and still said yeah. The exit was dramatic, like he had the feds on him. But Blank needs to correct this and hire a credible coach, prepaid to establish roots(home) in Atl, and commit for 7 to 10 years. Thats how u build a frnachise.

@ Blog females..truth/darrell questions made me think of a one…i know you have a age/look limit for men you date…but whats the deal with all these females 18/38 wanting a sugar daddys is this the new form of prositution? or is just using what u got to get what u want?

Darrell

I have dated younger (really this happened once or twice) and older …my preference is older but sometimes that doesn’t even make a difference when we are talking about “Maturity”.

I remember in my early twenties I dated a 40 year old and he was the best… I typically like to date older men because it sort of correlates with the need for a manly man presence in my life.

I do look young so I do get hit on on by those youngins…to no avail

Truth I feel bad for the daughter. Her behavior is probably somehow being promoted/endorsed by her mother or someone else close to her. Maybe getting your attention is really her way of saying that her mom doesn’t pay her enough attention. Maybe her mom seeks attention from men, prompting the same behavior from her. We sometimes have a tendency to blame kids’ generation for their behavior, but bottom line is that when our kids continually get out of line, it’s because we dropped the ball somewhere. Stay away from the daughter and tell the mom to handle her biz.

Actually she slapped the mess out of her daughter last night. Thats when I heard about it. Truthfully, I went in the house for a few minutes then went back outside where its safe.

Angel I’m a freak but I don’t do children. I really feel sorry for kids like that. She’s about to walk into something thats going to set her back for years. I have no reason whatsoever being in a house with a 14 yo girl UNLESS I have a horde of people around and we’re never alone. These little chicks will claim some stuff just to get attention.

BTW, her mom tor dat azzz up.

Staceye I don’t have “pubes like xmas tinsel”. LOL I just like that fire a young woman kicks out. However, I’ve got a few more mature friends that are starting to sway me that way.

One of my thoughts was that since she hadn’t been raised around her dad she would actively be looking for male attention any way she could get it. Am I off base here? Tell me straight ladies.

My metabolism hasn’t slowed down at all at the ripe ole age of 49. I watch what I eat and I NEVER, EVER venture to the vending machine. I might consume 3 cookies in an entire year. I just don’t do junk. I doubt very much I would gain weight due to who I dated. Mama would always tell me wait until you turn 25, wait until you have a baby, wait until you turn 40. Well, this is one thing I;ve been told to wait on that still hasn’t happened.

She may even be getting that from her mama(who knows)U doing the right thing. My friend had to fend off a 15 year old foster kid, after he put up at a friend’s house. It’s like how we view somebody who is already rich staying rich, versus somebody who was poor and got rich through hard work and dedication. We really celebrate the true glory, which is turning nothing into something.

Peach Before you have the surgery… I have two close friends who have lost a LOT of weight by following a program that requires injections, diet change, and exercise. As for your surgery….I hope you are doing it for health purposes and for yourself because it will make you feel good..not because of what society says you should look like. Trust me..I struggle with that since age 15. No I am not over weight…but I was one of the silent over looked girls…the women of color who did suffer from an eating disorder. I actually made it my platform as a queen to promote healty self image to young Black and Latino girls. Indulge me while I veer this topic down another avenue

As most of you know, Jennifer Love Hewitt was in the center of a (be it a media created) controversy. She says she is a size 2, but after seeing her pics, only her top half is …her jeans are no size two!

What is disturbing to me about those pics is the cellulite and the lack of tone. I have met many a woman who were more pear shaped BUT THEY WERE TONED. That’s a huge difference and one that never gets discussed. If one wants to be lazy and let you body look all flabby and out of shape (this happens with skinny ppl as well) - it is your perogative to do so. But then as a celebrity, don’t complain about it because it is YOUR choice.

Same with everyday, non-famous folks.

The thing is is that it IS unhealthy.

And I always appreciate anyone that is willing to make a reasonable effort to sculpt their body the best they can - even with imperfect results. I don’t have much respect for those who are lazy and sloth.

However, I must admit that if a younger guy does something immature, I might think to myself “that’s what I get for dating his young azz” and if an older guy acts a little more controlling, my first instinct is to think “that’s why I don’t like dating older men”. In the end, I’ve come across some mature guys younger than me and some REAL immature older guys.

Not taking sides on the arguments, but I must say that I had to laugh when Dr. Kym put ‘punkazz’ at the end of her post, LOL. FYI ‘punkazz’ is one of my favorite words…

Binford she is a size 2 by some designer’s standard. But noetheless..she is not fat. Cellulite can happen to the skinniest women. It’s just a plain fact. I have seen overweight women with NO cellulite. Crazy huh? I just think that it was blown way out of proportion. If you are not walking around looking like a crack ho..you are fat in Hollywood. Its funny because Marilyn Monroe was one of the biggest sex symbols and she was size 14. It just goes to show..some designer and media can wake up tomorrw and decide that 0 is fat…and the world will follow suit and try to get down to the 000 to be be what the media considers beautiful. Since when do we let the media dictate how we should feel about ourselves? I admit..I too fall into this trap. But I’ll be d@mned if I kill myself to be a 2 (looking like a crackhead on my body type)! Some people naturally have very small frames….but there is no way a medium framed woman should be a 2.

ImAPeach404 A woman has a kid, most likely she’ll have stretch marks and that’s something I’m not going to be critical about.

The bottom line is you can tell 99 out of 100 times tell when someone is dedicated to their fitness. If they are reasonably dedicated (read: not obsessive, but makes the effort most of the time) then any man or woman should respect that and not criticize the little flaws we ALL have.

Now to Truth’s issue. I fault the mama. One you dont date with your kid around. If you asked her momma to keep you away from the kid then the Momma should have respected that and arranged a sleepover for Little Sha-Sha somewhere else. Second point..Momma bought her whateva it was she was wearing which is not a good look either. So it goes back to momma. She needs to spend more time with her daughter and dealing with this attention seeking she is searching for because it is not going anywhere positive. Believe me I know of a woman who is a 37 year old grandmother of 2.

melo anything could have happened. You know thats partly why Genarlow was in the clink… wouldn’t admit guilt to his “crime” because he would have had to be a registered sex offender. He wanted to go to trial b/c he was certain he wouldn’t be convicted therefor not a sex offender.

He was smart enough to know that would have ruined his life - po’ thang didn’t know it would be ruined anyway.

DasV love it too. Depends on my mood but right now I have “I Need You” on repeat. Tomorrow it might be “Wreckless Love”! I think this is my fav CD of hers to date.

Red my point is that I would never want to be that small and a size 2 is not what I call attractive. I’m not a dude, but if I was, I’d find myself attracted to females who were in the size range of 10/12/14 - but different people carry their weight/size differently. I, as a woman, find that attractive and thats my size goal because thats what I like. Thanks for the kudos.

Truth

I don’t know much about the woman you’re dating, but based on this blog it’s her fault. Let’s back up a minute. Who’s to say that this women is not a well rounded person, who decided to step back into the dating game once her youngin was old enough. Not all parents control the ill mannered actions of their young. If you’re raising your child to be the best they can. Which includes speaking with them about sex and much more. Then they turn around and pull a stunt like lil fresh did…how on god’s green earth is her mother at fault?

I’ve know there are a lot of single parents out there, and they can’t always predict what their kids will do. But who’s to say that a) her mom bought her those clothes. b)that the mom even knew she had them.

How do we know she didn’t steal dem or better yet get them from one of her friends. Let’s not put this mother on blast when we know nothing of her.

On another note….Truth it’s a good thing that the situation happened the way that it did. Now you can see what you’re getting into before this thing jumps off to a whole new level. My take after reading further comments. Glad to know that her mom slap fiya to dat azzzz. LOL

Well Peach, it goes without saying that everyone is going to find different things attractive or not. Casting a broad net for all “size 2s” is not even comparing apples to apples. Some folks will look great as a size 2, others look better as a 10, 20 or even 26. I just find statements like yours contribute to tearing other women down. I’m sure many on here would say your size is not attractive, but adding the “no offense” tag doesn’t make it any more correct. Of course you’d have a preferece for a larger size of woman, being a big woman yourself. I guess I just wonder why it even matters.

Question for Blog Men with Daughters Are you concerned about the quality of men that will be available for your daughter to date and marry in the future?

…if you don’t mind… I’m worried about the quality of me that are currently available so I can just imagine what it will be like for the young women today. I’m not taking a jab at men, but I’m being totally sincere. I’m a woman so I can only speak from this side of dating. My girlfriends and I have a difficult time finding suitable partners and if the ones we have to choose from are the ones raising and advising young men, I only see it getting worse.

Imagine if a young man was reading these blogs and getting his ideas about dating, women, and relationships… lol. Po thang!

@ Staceye…good article…its mostly accurate..i will say this..daughters/females need the father around as much as sons/boys do..One thing i can say about the article and situation that isnt addressed…is the mortality rate of black men….you cant be a father if you are dead..and i see so many cases where young cats die or are killed..with small children.and they loved their kids and woman…and was an active father/spouse/SO…so we DONT always abandon our kids and women…i think females under 27 and their kids and their generation that have gone through that ordeal will have to deal with psychological and emotional hurdles from having the fathers pass way before their time and not due to leaving.

You don’t criticize for the things someone cannot control (i.e. stretch marks, moles, anything like that).

I for one, could give a rat’s a$$ if a woman is a size 8 if she practices reasonable eating/workout habits (pushing relatively hard) and is a size 8. Nor would a dump a girl if she got bigger while doing those things. I would NOT get together with a woman who did have the same general attitude.

It’s the lack of discipline in eating and lack of effort in fitness I find disturbing in this culture. Too many folks are falling in to this trap.

Foots “Question for Blog Men with Daughters Are you concerned about the quality of men that will be available for your daughter to date and marry in the future?

In a word, YES.

As I see it - and this is just me - there seems to be more of a focus on developing good character in young girls as opposed to young boys. This is especially true in African-American families and this lack of focus on character development is, I believe, a significant factor in the waywardness of young black males today.

Just look around you. There is less and less evidence that today’s young men genuinely respect and revere young women. It’s as if teaching young men about manners and general couresy will somehow lead to them growing up ‘soft’ and instead of a raising a generation boys who aspire to be gentlemen, we find ourselves dealing with a bunch of “young bucks” who aspire to be “duffle bag boys” and wear their pants down to their knees.

Unless something changes, all this will translate into how these young men treat their women as they grow older.

Just my two cents.

Off-topic, what the hell is wrong with folk. This is why I stay on freaking High Alert!!!!

*PANAMA CITY, Fla. — A Bay County, Florida, man’s attempt to burn his wife’s home ended in his arrest. Authorities say Gregory Lee Pippin Senior told them he tried to get his wife’s attention by first knocking on her window. When she didn’t answer, he poured gasoline around the home — sure she would come out to speak to him. But the fire burned itself out, causing only minor damage to the area around the home. And Pippin fled the scene. The woman later told police she was going through a divorce. And Pippin was arrest on arson charges.

Angel007 You raise valid points. It’s clear that the child doesn’t respect or fear the mother. I don’t know what she teaches her child, but in the house I grew up in, I didn’t have a choice to act that way. I knew that my mama would tear my hide up and I didn’t even try things like that. Her mother needs to put the fear of God into her and command respect.

binford/Peach what if she didn’t have a kid and still had stretch marks.

I’m in that category. They are not too visible, but they are there on my backside. I’m 5’6” and it seems like I always have been, but when I “ballooned” from 99 lbs to 114 lbs during my first two quarters of college, I came out of it with stretch marks. And I’ve always had a bit of cellulite, even when I was 99 lbs. Just be a little easy on people’s bodies, because it doesn’t mean that they are fat and lazy if they have imperfections.

And I never looked at JLH and thought “she’s fat”. I was just surprised that she had it going on like that!! I was thinking that Sir Mix A Lot needs to cast her for his next video. She probably is a 2. I can still get into some 4’s, and I have 38” hips. It’s probably the cultural difference that caused folks to react like they did. That picture probably made JLo jealous!

This is true. What values do you plan to instill in them regarding sex and their bodies?

For the men on the blog who presently think that a woman laying down with them has no meaning other than pleasure, will you take the same stance with your daughters? Or will you teach your young women that their minds and bodies are special and valuable, and not to be given lightly?

Does thinking about how men will treat your daughters in the future have any effect on the way you treat women today and the “casual emotionless sex/no strings attached” behaviors that are held in such high regard by some blog men?

Red I was commenting on the topic that binford brought up about Jennifer Love Hewitt and how she, or whomever, is making a big deal out of her size. I said that I do not find that attractive and I do not desire to be so small, I wasn’t tearing anyone down. Everybody has preferences and I was stating mine. We do it every day on here so I don’t see the difference here.

Back in the blog day, size/weight has been a hot topic and it has been expressed many times in many ways that plus size is not considered attractive by many men on here. So.

Maybe it only matters to you.

…have to deal with psychological and emotional hurdles from having the fathers pass way before their time and not due to leaving.

SJ My father died when I was 5, truly before his time. I wonder what my life would have been like if he were around. I know it would be totally and completely different. I know how I deal with men and my relationships with men wouldn’t even compare to what it is now. From what my mom and family tell me, my dad was so in love with me and spoiled me rotten! On topic: I’ve found that if you let it, food will be an emotion instead of sustanance. That is if you are a person that loves to eat. Me? I love food! Everything about it!!! So getting with my SO had/has nothing to do with it. I’ve had to manage my weight ever since I could remember. I’ve been this size (6/8) since HS, but I’ve also been an active person as well.

My SO is not so lucky. Since my cooking is the bomb, it’s hard for him to back away from the table. But it’s not all my fault. He’ll come back from the store with a BAG of Blue Bell ice cream cups and an apple pie. I’m like WTH?!! Dude, u need to stop and desist! AND, he is an athlete. Daughters by John Mayer

I know a girl She puts the color inside of my world but she’s just like a maze Where all of the walls all continually change

And I’ve done all I can To stand on her steps with my heart in my hand Now I’m starting to see Maybe it’s got nothing to do with me

Fathers, be good to your daughters Daughters will love like you do Girls become lovers who turn into mothers So mothers, be good to your daughters too

Ooh, you see that skin? It’s the same she’s been standing in Since the day she saw him walking away Now she’s left cleaning up the mess he made

So fathers, be good to your daughters Daughters will love like you do Girls become lovers who turn into mothers So mothers, be good to your daughters too

Boys, you can break You find out how much they can take Boys will be strong And boys soldier on But boys would be gone without warmth from A woman’s good, good heart

On behalf of every man looking out for every girl You are the god and the weight of her world

So fathers, be good to your daughters Daughters will love like you do Girls become lovers who turn into mothers

So mothers be good to your daughters, too So mothers be good to your daughters, too So mothers be good to your daughters, too.

Footsy (thats her play name for me only) interesting questions. I don’t think the way you treat a woman today has an impact on how you’d treat/raise your daughter. We are grown adults and make up our own mind. Sometimes not the best decisions but we do our best. If I have a daughter and she doesn’t carry herself right (after her legss heal) then she will fall prey to guys just like the next woman. Personally, I treat women the way they come off. A ho gets treated like a ho. If a child of mine acts like one she gets the same treatment.

If i go outside today acting like a byatch people will treat me like one. Noone is exempt.

Justme you just made me hella hungry. Someone tell me a greasy azz burger with those good fries from checkers isn’t good for me. HURRY!!!!!

@Sexyleggs

While I don’t have a daughter, based on my past behavior with women and the trending of kids having sex waaaaayyy before even I did…..

I’ll be reinstituting the chastity belt. Modernized with tamper proof alarm and a rotating code that changes after my daughter showers.

It shall be worn until 18, at which point she can do what she wants.

Foots,A certain pilot advised me to buy this book titled they call me daddy which contains manly advice on raising daughters.I got it in my collection. I am going to tell them everything they need to know about sex, disease,Aids, etc u name it.I am as liberla as they come as far as putting that stuff on the table for them to be informed and make informed decisons. When u are a parent and observant of ur kids, its easy to notice how they pick up the little stuff that u do in the home.I was fixing the garbage disposal the other day..my 21/2 year old goes under the sink now to crank it up.Every day when i take him to day care, he shuts off all the lights in the hall way and kitchen. So to answer *Foots question, i have to talk to them, but more importantly, i have to practice and show by example what i preach and intend them to pick up when they grow up. I cannot be arguing with my wife in public, in their full view and pretend to want to model them to be good wives to their husbands. They will learn what they see more than what i tell them.

As the mother of a son..I worry about the women he will eventually date(if I dont put him in a Shaolin temple first) but seriously I worry that my son is going to date one of these Sha-Sha’s who sees mommy doing what the f-ever so she will to. My son is a blend of me and his father. His dad’s charm, my mouth and creativity and both of our sneaky ways. All that mixed in with his own personality. So either he will get hurt by some hefer because he was being too nice or he is going to charm someone and make me a granny before I am ready(preferable never-I will kill him.) His father passed away when my son was 7 so as he progresses into the teen years I miss his dad more because the boy is going to need a mixture of my fire and his father’s ice(cool no matter what)personality in order to be a good person. But he is a good kid with a old soul. And if he is screwing up as I type this heaven help him.

BULL ISH!!!!!

Most little boys now-a-days are raised by single mothers…who teach them that women are to be treasured…i was raised by a single mother

Truth I don’t think the way you treat a woman today has an impact on how you’d treat/raise your daughter.

I think that it would cause some men to wake up and realize that they don’t want men to misuse and mistreat their own daughters, so they should be more careful with how they treat other people’s daughters.

But a man already has an image of women in his head as objects of pleasure only, how can he teach his daughter to view herself as something more?

Rell “Bullish”, huh? Well, props to your mom for the job she did with you, but you can’t take your personal situation and impart that onto ever young black man out there.

I teach a single-parents class at my church which is comprised of about 90 percent single-mothers, most of whom have sons that are at least 4th and 5th grade and older. Many (not all) of these single-mothers are having disciplinary issues with these boys and, as such, don’t even have the oppotunity, not to mention the time, to teach them about respecting girls/women because they’re too damn busy trying to get their boys to respect THEM. I’m with these mothers EVERY WEEK, so I know what they’re dealing with.

So, don’t label as “bull ish” what you don’t know about, man. You need to get outside of your experience with your own mother and see what’s going on in the broader sense. And I’m not singling out single-mothers. You brought it up, so I’m responding in that context.

I would be concerned about the quality of men available to my daughter, no matter generation she was in. I am the first man that my daughter knows and interacts with, so my behavior sets the bar for her expectations of men.

Now, I am a proponent of physical discipline, but I think sometimes we get carried away with whoopin’ our kids. Not everything can be beat out of them. If a young girl is competing with her mom for the attention of a very grown man, then her issues deserve alot more attention than a 15 minute whoopin’. Chances are she’s already getting the sh*t beat out of her, obviously with less than positive results. So, what’s one more meaningless whoopin’?

I use those terms for men that expect something in return for doing what they suppose to do anyway….a gentleman does not have to buy your affection or attention..a gentleman will over the single mother to load her car with grocery when she is clearly struggling with the kids in grocery…he will help her say have a good night and go home to his SO/WIFE or alone….a simp would offer to pay for the grocery, help her pack the car….follow her home to help her unpack the car and ask can he paint the house…etc etc

DasV I know…it’s a good start…If more black women start having abortion, I doubt they would be quick to get pregnant again.

On black men…give them full custody of the child…let them make the decision to kill the child or take care of the child…women make it too easy for the men to walk away and not worry about a DAYUM thing.

No, I am not placing all the blame on you ladies, but let more and more women turn the kids over to their fathers…make the men worry about child care and all that.

But, that’s not possible…MOST women view kids as a quick come up, SOME don’t…Hell, the thought of women paying child support, will cut down on birth rates.

Some of y’all will be like, no way I am paying this dude child support!!! I carried this child for 9 months by myself!!!

Back in time, our mother used to consider long term outlook prior to engage themselves in sexual adventure with a man. When they got pregnant, it was all good for them and the society. Three decades ago, women decided that sexual predictability is not fun for them, perhaps not in their interest. They prefer to listen to their lust while deciding to whom or when they should open up their legs. The only thing that changed is that what used to be called lust then is called attraction now. In French, every word has a gender, if we import this concept in English, lust should be only used on male and attraction on female. For those who are concerned about the quality of men, stop lying to yourself and us. Women care about the quality of men only when it’s too late, after all lust is not an enough to sustain a long term relationship or to pinpoint a good husband or father. Ladies, what you want is just what you get.

Be very careful of any study bc someone paid to have it done for a reason.

Darrel You just did the exact same thing you accused Rell of doing. How many women do you see every week? What ever number that is, it still doesn’t speak for the majority. All you can factually say is that for the number of women you see weekly x% are raising sorry azz boys to be sorry azz men. Also, do you see these women with their sons or is this just single mom whine.. I mean support group?

Foots I agree with Truth one doesn’t have anything to do with other. I treat people based on the way they act. I do not give away respect. You have to earn my respect and I will earn yours. If parents would teach their children to respect their brains then the body will follow. That’s why I asked the question about the “gold between the legs” and sure enough the blog ladies increased it’s value above their mind. Which is the most valuable and the most powerful thing we posses not your puddy.

Hey Cemeeli. Girl, it’s all about the genes and how you work with whatcha got! You know exactly what I’m talking about. I have people here at work asking where the heck does my food go because it’s not showing on the body (all the while asking while they’re shoving coffe cake down their throats). Breakfast is very important to me and I usually eat abig one. I eat about every 2 hours.

Now here’s a compliment = when your own mother compliments you on your parenting skills and tools. My mother knows I am a hands-on parent who doesn’t believe in others raising my child. There are many young women having babies but don’t want to stop partying so they send the baby to grandma’s house for a few years. Then try to retrieve said child around the age of say 10-12. Problems, problems, butting of heads, a$$ whoopings all because now the parent wants to bestowe its parental authority on someone raised by another. That’s bull shyt in my book!

I think a lot of single mothers work long shifts or two jobs just to balance their books. That leaves their kids with noone at home to parent them, but the tv.This is where i see things going wrong because a lot of what they see on tv is not good for them. Darrell Some of these single parents want their kids to behave good, but they themselves dont know how. They mouths are foul and they curse all the time. And their lives are full of drama which is lived in full view of their kids(bad boyfriends, girlfriends and bad relations with own parents/relations). Thats is what makes the kids rebellious. Dont ask that your kids behave a certain way when u urself cannot lead by example!

I would like to know if there are any single dads when these “studies are done” Because I know quite a few single dads that went through some rough years with their daughters and sons. There seems to be a focus on moms because well we are the majority but there quite a few dads out there too. Single Parenting is not a negative word or limited to just women. Again I would love to have the balance but that doesnt mean I am going to throw out the stats and say here son fish or cut bait. Society says you are doom bump that. We are building a foundation so that when he starts to build his own house(life) it has something solid to stand on.

I eat about every 2 hours = Me too. My family thinks i have a high metab but it’s all about the choices…I DO eat. I came from a THICK maternal family so me being 150 is little/small frame to them. My paternal family is more average (the men). The women are smaller. Anyway…i gained with my 10lbs son..that’s another story.

    Me: What?

The Homie: And White Christmas, is about slaying a virgin.

The Homie: Why is Frosty and pedophile?

Me: You trippin now. How is Frosty a pedophile?

@ Melo…co-signing your last post…not to female bash…but thats real..one thing i truly dont understand about women…if they have ONE kid and child happens to be a female..it really doesnt slow what ever life style the mother has..and that daughter becomes one of the “girls”…quickly becomes a lil “rat” in training and the mother and friends carrying on adult convos about adult situations and men around the child.and the kid picks up on all of it..dress in ways she shouldnt and even do dances around the daughter…and they get a kick out of the lil girls having a flip mouth and acting like a mininature of the mom..instead of allowing the girl to go through the stages of becoming a full fledged hood rat on her own…..

I guess another way to look at this whole thing is what can we as group do to combat that and turn it around. We are, for the most part, a bright group. Lets put our heads together and see what we come up with.

Footsy I think a great start in raising a daughter is marrying a woman you respect and would enjoy seeing raising your children. Moms is gonna be one of the biggest influences in her life and is going to teach her so much. If she’s walking around with her thong showing watch out for little Footsy.

Single Parenting is not a negative word or limited to just women Kym, single parenting is not an ideal(sure negative) but it dont mean it cant be done.It just makes parenting harder. There is more of it, i believe among women than men. In America and within the black community, that is one of our biggest problems. The men need to step up(either get married or be actively involved in ur kids)That way, we wont have all these gangs, black on black crime and shootings, drugs, illiteracy, aids+disease, pimping, prostituion and teen prgnancies that feed the vicious cycle.

That’s what I believe. But I was asking because I’ve heard people say “respect is earned” and I wonder how do you earn respect without even knowing the person.

Trust to me is the same way. I trust you and respect you until you give me a reason not to. Trust and respect can be built back up if either are broken, maybe back to starting levels, but it is always present in the beginning from me.
