Bearer of bad habits
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
My friend Abby just realized this month that she’s gaining weight because of her adorable boyfriend Jake. Simply going out to eat all the time, taking extra bites of his food here and there, and consuming the cookie cakes he keeps surprising her with is not helping her stay trim!
So she’s now trying to lose weight not because Jake (who is very thin) has asked her to or made comments about it. He loves her just the way she is. She simply cares for him, and he’s inspired her to look the best she possibly can now that she’s with him.
Abby told me it’s kind of ironic that she’s trying to slim down for Jake — because he’s sort of the cause of her weight gain! Not that she’s shirking responsibility for her eating habits, but she’s realized that all she and Jake do together is eat! She recently explained to him that their relationship can’t “revolve around food.”
She’s built one “free” day into her diet when she can eat whatever she wants, and that’s one of the days she and Jake go out, so she doesn’t feel as though she has to order a salad every time. The rest of the week she’s a drill sergeant about her diet, and she’s doing great!
Have you ever started gaining weight because you picked up a boyfriend or girlfriend’s eating habits? Or because of an SO who was a fabulous cook? Have you ever had to explain to someone that your metabolism just doesn’t function like theirs?
What about the opposite? Have you ever been inspired to lose weight because of a loved one’s healthy lifestyle (NOT because he or she guilted you into it)? Can someone’s healthy eating/exercise habits rub off just as easily as the not-so-healthy? Do you think it’s easy to co-exist with someone whose lifestyle habits are drastically different than yours?
What about other bad habits you might pick up from someone you’re dating? Have you ever been with someone so long that you started to mirror an unusual habit or vice?

Good Morning All,
I am not even going to comment on this topic same would you date your mate if she got fat stuff. Additional proof that a male blogger would be refreshing. But it will allow for some comedy relief when all the lurkers come out. Speaking of comedy relief..HOW ABOUT THOSE FAKECONS? Oh I have been laughing all night and making co-workers mad early this morning…Petrino leaves the Fakecons with only 3 games left…Classic.

Sure love does make you gain wieght usually…..You become alot more comfortable sometimes. It has to be in you to keep yourself looking good..i.e. hair done & nails, weight control. But I’ll be checking out the TRAMP STAMP section today. lol

Morning all
I think the worst habit I picked up from a guy I was dating was “left-handed cigarettes” Luckily I was able to stop when I stopped talking to him.
Bella tell your friend she can still go out to eat with her guy friend whenever she feels like it, she just needs to eat in moderation. You do not have to deprive yourself of food you love or even dining out - just make healthier choices or do not eat the whole meal. Enjoy half at the restaurant and box the rest up for later.
As far as the cookie cakes - she can eat a piece with him and take the rest to work. I’m sure her greedy co-workers would be happy to get rid of it for her!

Bella
Not to start an argument, but why is he the source of her wieght gain? I don’t see where he force fed her anything.
But on topic. Yeah, I’ve picked up a few unfortunate habits from prior SO, and they’ve picked up some of mine.
One ex called and told me she almost broke up with her future husband becuase of my habit of blurting out honest responses to statement (see above comments).
But if you spend enough time around people, you’ll pick up something: good and bad.

GaMan, Truth, Blat lead the Mighty, mighty MLB into the room…as the rest of the MLB enter behind them all fists are raised in the air.
Today the MLB honor a non-member…this is the first time in the history of the MLB that this has happened….

I swim and play sports so I’m lucky that I don’t gain weight. But I also watch what I eat and how much. I’ll date these girls who will demolish a huge plate of food while I may eat half - and I know this isn’t the girl for me.
One of the other AJC Blogs yesterday was about diet making the point that, in reality, we ALL are on a diet ALL our lives. And it’s true - shame enough people don’t realize that.
IF anything, I would hope I helped girls I’ve dated by showing them the “eat to live” philosophy. Not to say we can’t enjoy food (because I know I do), but food should be a relative small part of life IMO. When we used to splurge, then we went on a hike or something - it balanced out.

Kym - The falcons are a joke. However to take sum time to look at the dirty Burg steelers of yours. With the whole world watching and pullin for you guys (cause everyone hates the Pats right?) what happens??? You go for it on 4th & goal from the 1yrd and you do a end-around, wide receiver reverse!!??!??!? W-T-F!!!

This is really a non-issue for me, as I have to really work to gain weight. However, I have taken notice of my eating habits recently. The guy I’ve gone on several dates with recently is a gym rat and watches what he eats. I always order friend foods and he’s always asking for a substitution for the fried stuff. I have to admit that it makes me more aware.
On a side note, I clicked on the MOMania blog and her question of the day is if you have a “tramp stamp” LMAO!

Good luck Mr. Petrino. *Psst Fakecons fan dont even think about Cowher coming to Atlanta…if he does I may have to question his sanity. Who in the hell wants to deal with a fairweather fan based like the Fakecons have? Did you see the stands Monday night? Ghost town.

Petrino got ghost on those Fakecons. LMAO

900k First off I will be the first to admit that our Defense screwed us over big time that game. They got caught looking way to many times. As for that play the ball should have been in Ben’s hands for the QB sneak or in Davenports for those power pushovers he is no Bus..but he has strong legs. Either way dont hate on my Steelers because the Fakecons are a bunch of losers. 75 years and 5(count it) Superbowl Trophies(The Shiny Shiny baby) what the Fakecons got? 42 years..32 losing seasons.. no shiny shiny..—-Oh yeah Pats we will see you in the playoffs. What up ya! I tend to watch what I eat and lead a pretty active lifestyle so I eat what i want but anything in moderation is good. No excuses here, plus the fact I can’t deal with my horses being an over weight person or they will buck me right into a tree. I tend to stay active and want to look good for me and with the money invested in clothing for career and such I tend to want to stay in them and enjoy a great view when looking in the mirror. Being tall and carrying it well helps also. LOL

My weight stays fairly constant unless I’m trying to gain or lose, that doesn’t happen much though. I had a fat girlfriend once that liked to blame me for her not getting into shape, such as not getting home from work early enough to take her on walks, not taking her to the gym with me — she was incapable of working out. I don’t have many comments for today’s topic. I haven’t gained weight as a result of dating. Most of my relationships have been long-distance, so we were not going out together all the time.
I would LOVE to comment on what I missed yesterday, but I’m just going to have to let it go and start fresh.
On a somber note: To the families of the injured motorcyclist, the man who lost his life, and the driver of the car in the accident on Macland Road last night, my prayers are with you. I know that your loved ones will be greatly missed.

Rell Petrino is a quitter. Q-U-I-T-T-E-R. And a liar. He took a job, signed a contract…he has to work with what he has, even if it’s not what he expected. All day long at work, we are expected to adapt and make it happen, for a LOT less than $24M. A true leader can build his team to greatness, they do not abandon the team when times get rough, ESPECIALLY not when there is still work to be done. What makes a man think that he can quit in the middle of a job? Life is hard sometimes, but as somebody said last week, adversity introduces a man to himself, or something like that. Life is going on, the wheels are still spinning and you get off in the middle of the ride?? RIGHT AFTER you promised NOT to do so??
If you’d like to know what kinds of things make a woman (or people in general) lose respect for a man, it’s this kind of thing right here.

I’ve always been blamed for being the source of weight gain for a SO. I’m fairly health conscious. I usually do the dinner thing on my “diet-off-days”. That way, it doesn’t affect me. @Foots I agree with your 9:58. Unfortunately, there are some who FAIL their way to SUCCESS. Take the former CEO of Home Depot, Robert Nardelli. Home Depot saw it’s smallest net gain in 9 years under his leadership. He was consequently fired, but not without receiving his severance worth $210mil. Then a few months ago, Mercedes announced that it was selling off the Chrysler part of the company. Guess who was named CEO of the new Chrysler company…Nardelli. Straight FAILING his way to SUCCESS.

You know, speaking of weight and dating… I plan on having weight loss surgery after the first of the year. I’d like to find a dude now b/c I’d rather date a guy who likes me as I am, not because I’m small(er). I’ve been blessed because I am very easy on the eyes, I’m funny, open minded, and a beast in the kitchen, but I’m a big girl. Some dudes may feel this cuts my attractiveness in half while some dudes love it and wouldn’t have it any other way.
Unfortunately gaining weight during a relationship, due to whatever reasons, is an issue with some folks but has any one ever been turned off due to their mate losing weight in a relationship?

Bella, you should tell your friend that what goes on with her body is completely her responsibility. Blaming your weight gain on someone else is retarded and has “I’m a victim…poor me” written all over it. That’s as retarded and ridiculous as people suing fast food restaurants because of their weight gain. If you’re too stupid to live, die and make room for someone else.

Dam Dream thats some good info. I didn’t hear about that one. The thing is getting that Chrysler gig is a big set-up too. He won’t be able to turn around that company in this economy.
Rell no moist booty types here dude. Having experienced a few barrages of my own I thought it was funny as hellz. I still do.
GA whoever thinks their beating the PATS is dillusional. Those boys are a machine. However, they better not play the * OAKLAND Raiders*. LOL
ARED a part of that after 25 thing is a myth. The thing is if we slow down our metabolism slows at any age. Look at all these obese kids. The hardest part is watching what we eat as we age because those foods we could get away with when we was shooting hoops stack up on us while where sitting in the lounger. LOL Also, I’d like to supervise your pole dancing class to make sure its done right.

Dreams I will never forget that day I read about Nardellis severance package from HD. I thought I was going to be straight sick!
SJ Yea, you reminded me that they went to VT together. Loyal as expected… couldn’t have said it better myself. They said Vick and White were working together a lot pre-season. I use to think White sucked, but I now, I think he may have had to adjust to catching that fiya that Vick was throwing. You can tell he’s did some work and it has helped. I believe Horn was working with him too.

Morning, all. :-)
I’ll be lurking for much of the day, but wanted to quickly interject this off topic question to the ladies:
“In a relationship, what is the biggest age difference you would consider dealing with? Five years? Ten? Fifteen? Is age really “just a number” or is the level of maturity more important to you?”

LOL

Nardelli, sucks, thats why Jack passed him over for the GE top job.He is already causing problems at Cerebrus coz the PR executive left this week coz of difference with him.
Foots, I disagrre with ur Petrino comments.I would’nt stay if it were me.Remember folks that an employer would not even think twice if they wanted to get rid of u.Petrino needs to take care of his own interets. They promised him MV,and the moment he was not there, the team folded. What ‘team’ is it that relies on just one palyer.Bad recruiting obviously, so why should Petrino be blamed for Rich Mackay’s poor decision making? (im not a football, but soccer fan(Cheasea Utd) instead but thats how i see it)

Actually it isn’t a myth for a womans metabolism to slow down after 25 it slows at different rates for most women, but never the less it slows.
Its really very simple less in less on the hips…food in exercise and activity help the burn.

Truth - I see what you are saying, but I guess I’m an exception to that rule. I have definitely slowed down, but my metabolism hasn’t.

DasV there was the reply to someone’s offense to a woman forgoing motherhood by choice….I stated thatis a guy does not want to be a father he should keep his joint his his pants…and the reply was for a woman to get an abortion because it’s only $300. Its funny how guys only see the cost of the procedure….and not the psychological effects of it. If it were there bodies have to have that done and their conscience of taking a human life they would speak a different tune. Its easy to say have an abortion because you are not ready in any sense. Maybe she is not either…but would rather deal with the consequences of her actions and not treat abortion like it is a wart removal…simple and non-scathing!
getting off my soapbox now
Peach Goo dluck with your surgery. I saw the effects of the surgery last week on Oprah….it was scary. God bless you to be ok afterwards.
Darrell I do not do old men…now that GYN I dated was 38..over 10 years older than I…but he looked young. So I gave him the chance. 39 is my limit…just can’t bring myself to date the 40 year old man…

Jazzy…lol @ Bella wtf are you doing?! I saw a few people mentioned yesterday that some posts had gotten deleted, so maybe instead of moderating she just skims through to delete certain posts and perhaps that is causing some posts to double post…not sure.
On topic: If Bella’s friend feels she is packing on the pounds, she should consider increasing her diet and exercise, especially if she knows they like to eat out a lot. There are a lot of alternatives to eating out, so she can do something.

DasV Business all day. He’s just jumping from place to place, collecting big checks.
Truth No doubt ol boy is getting set up for failure with the Chrysler move, but he’s just there to get paid. His base salary will be $1mil a year, and his stock options and “performance” bonuses will put him over $50mil a year.

Darrell from a dudes side my last 3 ladyfriends were in their late 20’s and I’m in my 40’s. Som of these older chicks can’t keep up. J?K ladies. However, the chick I’m hanging with now is 36 and she’s the oldest woman I’ve dated.
DasV you always make an entrance like ol boy in The Transporter. Run and kick the door in with both feet. I hope your having a good one.

What ‘team’ is it that relies on just one palyer.
Melo, id go so far as to say the Falcons didn’t rely on Vick. We had no idea just how much he covered up until he was gone! He made a lot of people look better by taking some of the heat off of them and causing the defense to focus more on him. As we can see now, when there is no #7 to worry about, you can focus on your coverage.
Darrell please let me know when you post it. I’d love to take a gander :)

Dreams You are right about Nardelli. You have to admit that they are smart to get their golden parachutes lined up and ready before Day 1 of the new job.
Darrell To me, age is more than a number. I have dated 8 years my senior before, I was much younger though. Now, I’d prefer someone 6 years older or less. If love strikes me with a man 15 years older
