Slow to launch
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
I’ve had some relationships that were, well, slow to start. One man I dated a few years ago had taken me out on one of the best first dates I’ve ever had, only to wait until five months later to ask me out a second time! Later during our relationship I asked him what took so long between date one and date two! He said he wasn’t really sure, just that he was “figuring things out” during that time.
Currently, I’m dating a guy that I see potential with and love getting to know, but this holiday season is proving a difficult time to do it! We’re both so incredibly busy and involved that we’re finding it hard to carve out time for each other this month! We’re both legitimately swamped with holiday parties, traveling home to see families and other activities we’re involved with this season. It seems as though we won’t really be able to start anything until the new year!
Have you ever had relationships that were slow getting out of the starting blocks? Is it because you’re someone who takes your time or because of other circumstances? Did it give you more time to reflect on how things were going early on in the relationship?
Are there seasons of your life (holidays, work-related, other) that make it hard to begin a relationship? Have you ever had a relationship not work out simply because it was too difficult to get a hold of the other person?
Happy Monday, everyone!

Sup Blog..funny topic because men are always blamed for dragging their feet and not making up their mind…yet females always say in the beginning they want to take things “slow”..especially when it involves things getting physical. Being hella busy..i have been accused of this a few times and have been told..”you make time” for people you want to see..But its not that simple…since u have so many factors involved..careers..kids…personal goals..Then you have situations where you are getting baggage out of your life so that u dont bring that into a new frienship..so taking thing slow isnt always bad…With the average female going for their “masters”…they should understand how busy adults can juggling our lives and trying to date.

There’s a fine line between being busy and putting things ahead of a potential SO. At first, one wouldn’t want to show they were too anxious because they’re not sure - and that makes sense. And the “I’m not too available” thing is important at first and then wanes in time.
But perhaps if one is “too busy” all the time, they need to do without or re-prioritize.

I can honestly say this has been one of the hardest time to try to start something.
With the traveling I do I meet a lot of good looking women that are easy to talk to, fun spirited, and intelligent. The only thing is, like ‘Pac, I only got a couple nights in town. And while I can’t ask you to stop your world for me as mine keeps spinning with the number of things I have to do, it just strikes me as ironic.
Here when I have the least time to pursue anything is when I meet the one’s I would spend my time pursuing.

3000 Yeah because you guys normally are draggin your feet. You guys are the ones “unstable”. Not only that you do make TIME for things you want to do. I am quite sure when you homies call to go get BEER on sunday to watch football..at the bar. I bet your bottom dollar you make time for that. So yeah, you are not too busy for things you want to do.

Rell missed u.
my .02 on the topic is that it’s all bs. you make time to see the person if you’re feelin’ them. my friend Mo who met the myspace guy is a busy person also. but she fits him in almost err’day. if you don’t have the time, make the time.

Not much on this topic, I cosign SJ3 I’ve been asked to take things slow by women since I was 14yrs old…? If you guys both have holiday parties to attend then why not pick at least 1-2 that you can go together?

Ummmm, I thnk that a lot of it depends on the pre-existing circumstances that are present in each person’s life at the time when they meet each other. There are so many tangible and intangible circumstanes that may or may not be known to the other. And I have found that as we grow older these situations become more prevalent and intransient.
So sometimes, the slow start may be a better thing if it means the person has taken all other things into consideration and then proceeds forward in pursuing the relationship; which is a far better process than just immediately jumping in and finding that things just are not going to pan-out well. But I would be doubtful as to whether or not there was in real interest if there was very little contact and some sort of validation as to why things were moving slowly.

@Dan
It is funny how things seem to always happen that way-it is as if the rhythym by which ourlives are moving is not in sync with the desire of our hearts. Sometimes I feel as if I am in the Dr. Hook song “…I was in the right place, but it must have been the wrong time…”

Well, now I know why I don’t tend to meet folks over the holidays, it really is an impossible time to get everyone’s schedules worked out if you are a busy person.
I think the key is communication. Dating during the holidays is a committment onto itsself. The cool thing is that if you are really feeling someone, you are going to let them know that you are committed to getting to know them better.
I’m making the hard push for after New Years, since I’m pretty much gone the 2nd half of December. However, I’ve made this fact known to dates and they are cool with it. It’s also known that it does take time to free up the schedule, so that’s what the focus is going into 2008. The attention I give to my work and social life should find room for my dating life. It’s just as important.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SEXY LEGGS!. I’ll post again in a minute for the group because I did go to Bell Bottoms!

Good morning everyone.
Happy B-day NY2GA.
I had an absolute BLAST at Bell Bottoms. I only met one person from the blog = Alvin. He’s a very nice man, too damn young for me, but very nice. DasV, he said some very lovely things about you. He said you were gorgeous.
Don’t know if anyone was lurking, but I danced my little booty off. I even danced in cage. Alvin joined me there and we rocked that cage off Salt-N-Pepa’s Push It.
If there were any lurkers, let me know.
Sorry you weren’t able to make it ARed.

Morning Blog!!!
It’s a Cowboy’s World…. Go Romo!!
On Topic: It really isn’t that complicated folks. It doesn’t matter how busy a person is; I have two jobs and a very active calendar myself, but I firmly believe you “make” time for those who matter.
My last attempt at starting something serious has fizzled in large part due to this. Old Girl is just about everything dee Blatino wants in a package, but simply isn’t making time. So the bottom line is she just isn’t that interested, is how I’m seeing it.
If a person truly is and still doesn’t make the time, that’s a mistake in my opinion. I was taught by an OG to “pay attention to who’s paying attention to you”. In other words, the hailzz if I’m gonna sit around and wait for you to start making me a Priority(Yes, I’m pimpin for GA. Man’s book!!).
If I meet you and I like you and you’re all that, I’m gonna take steps to make room for you in my life. If I don’t see the same coming from you, then I’m wasting my time and must move on. Point Blank.
The WLB’s may want to think about this the next time they ask themselves why bruthas like me spend our time with Jump Off’s. Could it be they make time for a man when YOU don’t???

Top of the morning to ya! Ummmm Lady J….what happened to your Packers? Oh yeah that’s right, that got a Patriots SMACKDOWN!
SJ I find it funny that guys wanna take it slow to commit but got track shoes and a condom in hand to get teh booty on the first date? HMMM…how azz backwards is that? the worst that can happen in a commitment is it ends..but the worst with getting busy is a disease or a kid with a person you barely know. Lets see…how does that make sense to you guys again???? It make me laugh when a guy says he wants to get to know you…meanwhile he is trying to slip your clothes off. Ummmm hellooooo…how are you getting to know me when the only words being spoken are, “ooh, ahh, how you like it, etc.”? Come on bruh! So when a female says she is waiting to be in a commited relationship to have sex…you are looking at her like she said, “yo mama”! Then you go running off to the next booty that passes you by!
Bronco I totally agree! I think its a cruel joke! LOL
*Darrell sorry bruh….though I love the name Blow Me…cause it’s classic for a chick. But did not come up with such a clever smart azz moniker! I can;t take credit for it! I know I’ve got like 4 personalities…but you only get Staceye on the blog!
Sexyleggs how come I did not know of this Bell bottoms meeting? I heard there’s a cage there to dance in…I would have come…although I am injured, I could have made it work! So you were gettin’ it in huh? I feel ya! Go SAG!!!!

Did any of you see the hoochie in the red dress doing the nasty on the dance floor? I had to pull her on the side and talk to her because she was degrading herself. Crawling on the floor, hiking her legs up, falling a time. Man o man!

Life is what you make of it. If you say relationships are hard to maintain during the holidays, it will occur that way. If you say otherwise, it will occur that way. What you spend the most time thinking about will manifest in reality. So, if you have a lot of bad thoughts, doubts, or concerns relating to dating around the holidays or just in dating period, that’s what is going to show up for you.

Blow - Seriously I do not consider women Jump-offs just because we get phys early on. Time will ALWAYS tell when it comes to this. Fellas no that you will hear women say things about not doing this often or got out of a dead relationship, its been a long time… blah. However by taking the time I will find out if these were true statements or not, then she gets the label if she doesn’t live up to her words.
And to you bj question if you don’t know by now, this can be one of your strongest weapons when it comes to getting a man to do WHATEVER you want him to do(within his power of course). When you choose to unleash it is up to you.

ARed, when you introduced yourself to the other woman, did you say anything about the clothes or were you being politically correct? That should have been your first clue. Sexy, I didn’t say anything about the clothes. The woman was having so much fun (even grinding on other chicks) that I didn’t expect her to stop partying to give me charity! LOL. Good Morning.
I agree that people make time to for the people they want to spend time with. So, if someone isn’t making time for me in the beginning, I assume that they’re making time for someone else. I know if I have several date options, I have to prioritize and decide who I want to spend my time with. So, the ones who aren’t getting my time would be right to assume that I’m making time for someone else. The game is brutal and lovely all at the same time.

Good Morning all
On Topic: People do make time for what is important to them. However, sometimes, there are special circumstances. I work in the legal field and did when I met my wife. In the beginning it was slow and tough to make time for each other. It helped that she also works in the legal field. So she understood. I guess if its meant to be things will work out. Forcing things might lead to problems down the road.
Off topic..I posted last week that I thought that Mr. Vick would get 18-24 months. I’ve worked with Judge Hudson before and he is tough. I told 404 Peach that he would not play again at least to 2010. He was the money behind the operation and if no money, then it would have been tough to have the operation. As a result, he is get the worst sentence. Two years is what he got. He has basically taken one month off already which leads to 23 months.

Well, now that his sentence has been determined by the justice system, I truly hope that ppl will get back to the real concerns of their own lives. The amount of anger, hostility, etc. that some ppl have expressed was unreal and unnecessary. Granted what he did conveyed not only an inhumane consciousness as well as being illegal; but h3ll he could have done something far more heinous and egregious than dog-fighting. And while all of these hostile critics get on with the everyday lives, Mike’s life has been irrevocably, and possibly irreparably, changed. I hope that his redemption and goodness are restored in God’s faith and within in himself and that he find a higher calling to mainifest.

good morning everyone:)
off topic: poppagrande for federal time, is each year served actually equivalent to 12 months? i thought it was something like 9/10 months were served for each year sentenced. if that were true, vic would serve more like 18 months.
on topic: Have you ever had relationships that were slow getting out of the starting blocks? Usually if it starts off slow for me, it’s b/c I’m unsure if I’m feeling the person or not.
Is it because you’re someone who takes your time or because of other circumstances? I make time for someone if I really like him. I would at least try to get together once a week as well as talk on the phone.
Did it give you more time to reflect on how things were going early on in the relationship? The busier I am, the more time I have to reflect between dates, I suppose.
Are there seasons of your life (holidays, work-related, other) that make it hard to begin a relationship? Being in school now and working full-time have presented challenging circumstances in my dating life.
Have you ever had a relationship not work out simply because it was too difficult to get a hold of the other person? I have stopped dating guys that I didn’t hear from them/see them enough. I figured that when time permitted, they’d call/schedule a date…if not, life goes on.

Why not call him up and whisper something hott in his ear. He may hae tried this or is afraid to do this to you, because most of you have preconceived notions about men. We should all wear Shinig Armor or ride around in loin cloths with long flowing hair. Or maybe even speak like a soap opera actor with a dramatic flair…. Make time for one another. @Kinder…
Generally, you have to serve your full sentence with Federal Cases. I think that he may serve 18 months in prison and 6 in a half-way house. (The feds made Douglass High grad and Cleveland Brown RB Jamal Lewis serve all of his time in a fashion such as this. He spent roughly half in jail and the other half in a halfway house.)
Federal jurisdiction and penalties are different from State cases. Money across state lines for illegal activity could have made this case a federal case.
The worst news for Vick is that Virgina is a commonwealth state and his state trial for the dog fighting is set for April 2008. Sorry MKaryl, it is not over yet. Being a commonwealth state, Virginia can still try him for the dogs.
I met Vick because my firm was local counsel for the Herpes case. He seem like a nice guy. I have no ill feeling towards him. I can’t go into that case because of confidentiality. He seemed like a okay guy.
I think that this confirms DL Hughley’s feeling about the Vick situation: People with crap to lose need to be careful when hanging with those people without crap to lose because those without crap to lose will lose your crap for you. It doesn’t mean that you turn your back but you need to make an understanding between the friend and yourself. If they are really your friends, they will understand and they won’t let you get into situations like this.

@ Darrell & Poppa:
I am currently living in his home state and in the Hampton Roads area, so I have listened to a lot from this end as well since he is a homeboy. Also, I know that the VA state charges are yet to be reconciled and yes this is a commonwealth-remember that I posted it is 1-888-lock-u-up, and they mean it. What is interesting is that the state was latent to do anything regarding the charges until after the feds acted on the situation and presented a case (given that the state was in dibs at first). ep, it is justice all right, and when it is skewed it is against “just us”

CONFESSION TIME
Ok you guys….I attend an acting class to keep on top of my skill. Anyway….I never mix business with pleasure. So when this new guy started class…I thought he was cute. Nothing to it. I’m a heterosexual woman so I do notice attractiveness. Well, after doing a scene with him….that attraction has jumped to a new high! The remainder of the class I could not stop mentally eye f#cking him! After feeling his ripped 12 pack stomach…and hard as steal arms….OMG….I almost lost my mind and my train of thought! So yes…though Staceye hates the persona of men…I loves the physical form of them! UGH…but I would NEVER act on those feelings! HMMMMM! OK!
And now back to your regularly scheduled programing…..

I know that there is far more left to be determined with the state charges; but what I mainlyy was referring to were thirsty lynch mob of over vocal hostiles-maybe their need for “justice through a lynching of a black man” has been sated.

Hey y’all…
SexyLeggs Sorry that I couldn’t make it to BellBottoms, but I see that you all had a great time.
on topic If I meet you and I like you and you’re all that, I’m gonna take steps to make room for you in my life. If I don’t see the same coming from you, then I’m wasting my time and must move on. Point Blank.*
I agree with Blat. I am of the belief that people make time for what they want to make time for. Even when I was “going for my masters” (as SJ says) a few years ago, I made time for my man. And that was working full-time, taking 2 dance classes, carrying a part-time load in my grad program, working at my church, and keeping my family and friend relationships stable. And it was funny to know that a man who just came home from work and sat in front of the TV all night couldn’t find time for me.
I still have a very busy life, but it’s mostly during the week. I will ALWAYS make time for a man I’m interested in. Just waiting for one to return the favor.

Personally, I feel that it isn’t just a need to Lynch a black man” in this case.
PETA led this charge in this case.
I see it is more of an example that special interest groups have way too much influence in America. PETA is just one of those group that are just fanatical about their cause. Bill Mahr (politically incorrect) is on their board. HBO just a special on PETA’s founder. They are the more vocal.
The animal charges were misdemeanors when the animals were found in April of 2007. However, they were felonies when he was charged. PETA worked on getting that change to a felony. They did it before the dogs were found on his property, but they had a hand ulitmately in deciding his fate with their lobbyist.

It is good. It is a better thing to take time to re-evaluate our inner emotional self, so that we can go forward in a more emotionally healthy light. Initially, we most often want to start with what the other did to us that caused our emotional pain; but in reality we need to recognize that, we ourselves, choose the person to be in our lives-so then ultimately we are the reason and responsibility for our own emotional best interest. What I think is vital about the period of emotional/physical distancing is that once we get to the “I/Me” in the problem, then we began to answer the questions necessary to resolve our pain. And a reminder that we are still open to a viable option on the other side is a good thing. It means that the healing is happening and progressing forward-OXOXOOXOXO

Hey all.
Sounds like everyone had a great time at Bell Bottoms. Will be at the next meet and greet.
I think that all dating relaitonships hit a slow start in the beginning. Each person has to decide if they’re interested in persuing his/her date. No need to over state this topic.
*On another note…..poor Vick. So sad he gotta be locked away, to finally get the big picture. Guess he had it coming to himself. H3ll he could’ve bought me the property in VA, and would’ve never had to worry about some bullish poppin off. Just goes to show you how folks w/out ish goin on in their lifes can create problems that have a bomerang effect. Hopefully he’ll wise up.

melo You would think that after nearly 3 months of talking that they would have touched on some of those subjects. I wouldn’t have thought that she wouldn’t have asked anything about how he spends his time, if he likes his job, what his goals were in THREE MONTHS. Even fun, but informative conversations about cooking and washing clothes could have shed some light on what she was dealing with. So, I wonder…what DID they talk about for that long?

2C I told you ole boy was all hype. They wanted him to win. He should have never been in the ring with Mayweather. The other thing that made me mad was that all those so called Americans cheering for ole boy. That just show you how deep the hate is. Oh and one more thing, Mayweather’s corner had me crying laughing with “that m/f can’t fight. come in here with that wild ish. keep doing what you doing and beat the m/f azz” that was funny as hellz.
On topic: If I have only known you for a short time why would feel that you are on the level of as my family, my friends, my job and my life? Until you earn me making time for you like my family has, like my friends has or pay me like my job does, then you will have to get in where you fit in and I will do the same.
Beauitful I still don’t understand how women keep falling for the same thing. I keep hearing women say this doesn’t work or that doesn’t work but yet in still men keep doing the same things and women keep falling for it. Who’s fault is it? Nevermind I already know it’s not her fault right?

Poppa, it became a felony due to interstate transport of dogs and money, and then lying to federal investigators about it, not because of anything PETA did directly.
It’s a tough lesson to learn for Michael Vick. Plenty of people do the same or worse and nothing bad happens to them. Perhaps Vick pays the price because God has better things in store for him. God’s best may require a bit of personal bloodshed.

Talking on the phone and textin is a sucker move when you in the “getting to know you phase”….how can you gauge anything..alot of communication is non verbal..so you need that…i say keep the phone calls sweet and simple and set up “dates” to know the person..meaning share your interest..ladies that mean you can set dates to all those chittlin circuit plays and such…and men you can invite her out to amatuer night at plat 21….lol….folks need to get off the movie/dinner/blockbuster…dating cycle..all the things to do in atl and the first date is always eating….i dont get it…

With relation to Beautiful’s friend…
My grandma told me that people come into your life for “a reason, a season, or a lifetime. And regardless of your schedule for them God took them out of reach, with His reasons in mind.”
I’ve lived by that since forever, and it has served me well.

What up blog Still mad at almost making it to Bellbottoms. Hey Page
Got caught up trying to make it to a fight party. Then we started towards bellbottoms and stopped at a spot called the Blue Room what was supposed to be a minute, but ended up being for the night.
On-Topic I had this conversation with a lady friend of mine yesterday about dating in Atlanta. And I was saying that it is kind of different in Atlanta. If a person lived out of town that you liked you would break some of your rules to be with that person. Lets say this person lived in Macon, or Athens. You would invite that person up for the day and tell them to bring an overnight bag. To be honest if you live in Douglas County and the person you are dealing with lives in Gwinnett, then you are in a since doing the same thing. I have met ladies and deemed them Geograpically UnDesirable, due to location. I have also dated a woman who lived on the total other side of town and it worked. We both always had a bagged packed.
Ques-Take In the A where there is a lot of distance between two people, if you really like someone you cannot be lazy. To live fifty miles from someone you are interested in is nothing. Number one You have to be patient, two understanding, and three willing to go above and beyond to get the best of the person you want to be with.
The literate of the future will not be those who can simply read, but those who can unlearn, relearn, and use what they have learned.
What up Mo Happy belated Sexy, and ARED

@Que
I really do think that “distance” is a phenomenon specific to the A. My friends that move here from out of town say that they’ve driven 2 hours (one way) to kick it with a babe and drove back same night. I’m like “Noooo, If I have to cross 285, it wasn’t meant to be.”
But like you I tried it SW to 20 miles past St. Mountain. We both kept bags and it was mostly a weekend thing, which got kinda tiring after a while. Not that we weren’t willing to try but, the effort to make it work was a little too much.
But with the traffic in the A, if I can’t get to you inside of 285, might be a wrap. And that’s from a hometown boy!

BLOG QUESTION - How much does talking on the phone factor into the “getting to know you time?” Say you date weekly, but talk on the phone everyday. Would you judge folks for giving up the azz after the 3rd or 4th date (which = knowing each other for 3-4 weeks)

Beautiful you said it.. she took a risk. It’s just sometimes women do not take responsibility for the decision that they make. Que & Dan I can’t mess with someone who lives in Henry or Clayton county. That is just too far for me. I am North Fulton/Dekalb borderline. So you must be within 5-20 mile radius. Under that breaks my 5 mile barrier and over thhat is just too far to travel weekly..unless we agree to a weekend thing. Not to mention…i live one exit from where I work…I’ll be d@mned if I spend a weeknight at a dudes crib to have to get up at the butt crack of dawn or fight traffic to get to work when I live close by!

When I lived in LA, driving an hour or more to see someone was nothing, since the metro area is SO big. Gotta admit though that since living in The A, I don’t want to make those drives anymore. AmazonRed I love PhoneTime. For me, talking on the phone before I decide to go out with someone helps me get certain things out on the table, as well as helps me to determine if we’d have a good flow of conversation face to face. Most of the REALLY long convos are in the beginning though. That’s when you can pass two hours easily without even knowing it, because everything is so new.
But who knows about the time frame/date stuff? It’s so different for everyone, and talking so much on the phone can have you feeling like you really know the person though you haven’t spent much time with them. Shoot, they could actually be on the phone with you and at their computer sending somebody else IMs at the same time. Plus, you never know about the chemistry until you lay eyes on each other. I’ve had plenty of wonderful convo on the phone only to go out on a date and realize that there’s no chem.
Anyway, my take on it is that if you feel comfortable with your decision and can OWN it, it doesn’t matter whether it’s 3 weeks, 3 months, or 3 days. Whatever you do in that situation, if you own your decision about sharing yourself, you’ll be able to deal with your decision and have no regrets.

Amazon Yeah, it’s impossible to know what the other person is actually thinking, even if they tell you. So that’s why if I’m okay with my decision, regardless of what happens afterwards, I’m cool.
