Happy Holidating!

If you survived Thanksgiving and all those well-intentioned relatives asking about your dating life, congratulations! You cleared the first holiday without sinking into a funk about your lacking love life. Being single and dateless during the holidays doesn’t have to spell doom. For all of us who are single during the holidays, here are some tips on holidating:

Mingle: You know all those e-vites that are sitting in your inbox for holiday gatherings? Open them! Even if you don’t know who you want to take, just RSVP and go! The goal should not be to score phone numbers, though. Relax, be yourself, and laugh. When you aren’t focused on the numbers game, I think you are able to enjoy the people/experience more. Trust me. I’ve had the most fun at holiday parties without a date. I played the card games, sipped on yummy drinks, and grabbed random hot guys to stand under some mistletoe! (Yes, I have been known to carry my own. Don’t judge me.)

Venture out: It’s getting cold, the days are shorter, and the single people seem to disappear! This just means you need to be more creative and go where lots of people are gathered. Ice skating rinks, sporting events, bookstores, museums, or a cozy restaurant/cafe with comfy surroundings. Relaxed people are sexy. I bet you could strike up a conversation with interesting people who share similar interests.

What are other activities single people can do during the next few weeks? Lots of days off which means plenty of leisure time! What do you plan to do for fun during the holidays?

Do single people try to avoid meeting someone new because they don’t want to get caught up in that holiday trifecta: Christmas, New Years, Valentine’s Day?

Do you ever “relax” your dating standards just so you can get a snuggle buddy for the cold, winter nights? I have to admit that the thought of having a sweetie to curl up with in front of the fire is awfully tempting!

Is it wrong to do the “expiration” dating thing just for the holiday season? How does one even pull that off?

What are the perks for being single during the holidays?

WiseDiva, you are my long lost sister. I use the word “snuggle bunny” too. The holidays just arent the same without one.

I had breakfast with a friend and she told me that a lot of folks break up during the holidays. I’ve experienced more break ups during the warm months when the days are longer and folks are showing more skin…seems like guys want to roam!

Anywhoo, just because I’m single doesn’t mean I have to be dateless. I do tend to hibernate during winter, but as I’m turning 30, I’m trying to live it up and enjoy life. So on the nights I don’t have a date, I call up girlfriends and we hit the town. I just did that Play Date thing on Saturday and had a blast!

Good morning, I had to laugh at, “the perks of being single during the Holidays”…..The perks are, you aren’t obligated to do anything, for anyone.

Hey all!! Believe it or not, I am actually looking forward to being single this holiday season. I have family and friends nearby so I really dont feel lonley per se. I am trying to get a life back after being coupled for the last 10 yrs. I plan to do a lot of the things that I used to enjoy but stopped doing (museums, concerts, plays, hanging at Borders for hours, LOL).

ARed I am like you, in the past I experienced more break-ups in warmer months.

@2…Why I feel a f**ky attitude coming on with me now that Dec. hit…I need to stop though bc I am truly ok and it is not the worst thing…But I refuse to force some s**t like I did last year for sake of having a date or man…So the events I will frequent this month will be alone with a smile on my face…Making a dentist appointment now for a cleaning and just try to be me and shine as stated…We will see…But I am ready to frequent events and be out!

This season is always kinda difficult for me, I guess because it is winter and there is so much going on. My birthday is on New Year’s Eve and it’s usually pretty depressing for a lot of reasons. It seems as though there are a lot of nice places to hang out at this season, since many folks are on the prowl for a snuggle bunny.

why, Lady J, about the attitude coming about? Like Mo stated, shoot, revel in your activities, and live gal……also, like Mo stated, I’m an avid reader, and researcher, so I’ll be places like Borders, too….shoot, ya might see me, if so, come holla at me….

AA men need to stop being so selfish.

Or better yet, stop making excuses for our failure and plan for our success.

Y’all know I am a very sensitive cat, the only thing I see in the eyes of these young brothers 16-25, is hopelessness…If you don’t believe me, take a hoods tour like I once had…from NY to LA back down to Mia

Hellz no, either I have p-dussy on hand or I dont…I’ll just grab a few lesbian friends and chill at the shoe show on days you’ve mention…it ain’t that serious…IS IT??

Not sure if she was looking for a snuggle bunny or not. That has me in the spirit and I look forward to being out. Good morning LadyJ, dont get down on yourself. Do something for you

Good morning everyone! I’m in a quandry as to what I’m going to do over the holidays. Don’t really like to go places alone, but I’m trying to wrap my mind around the fact that this is what I may have to do.

Off-topic, Bell Bottoms emailed me yesterday to announce that I won a b-day party there. Since my b-day is Sunday, I’ve opted to get my dance on this Saturday, 12/8. If any of you would like to join me, just ask for SexyLeggs at the door. (Yes, I told them I have a few friends who know me by that name…she started laughing.) If you arrive before 10:00 you’ll get in free as well as 2 comp. drinks. Come join me and celebrate my old behind…yeah right! I’m so far from being old…LOL

Like most holidays, I’m single.

This time it wasn’t some Machivellian I-don’t-want-to-buy-you-a-present move, I just haven’t had time to sit down for an extended period with a young lady for long enough to build something.

So it’ll just be me a the fam and much needed sleep!

Morning

For the most part I’ve had an SO during the holidays. This will be my 2nd year celebrating the holidays in my singledom. I tend to go back and forth on being alone at this time of year. I’m usually enjoying the fam but every now and then I get a wind of SingleDuringTheHolidayBlues As far as hooking up with someone just for the sake of making it through the holidays really isn’t me. I’d rather hang out with someone I already know so that awkwardness about holiday expectations with someone new won’t be in the air.

Good topic wise. I think the place NOT to meet a date or potential is any form of office holiday party. Yahoo did a great article on yesterday on maneuvering office holiday parties (Not drinking to much, making a move on the hot girl from marketing, the boss finally getting the courage to let you know why you REALLY got that promotion last year LOL). I went to a tree trimming party and it was a ton of talent there. I think the best way is to just get out, step out of your comfort zone, leave your bitterness, expectations, and ego’s at home and just have a good time.

I guess there is one benefit to having a birthday during the holiday season: extra attention. Makes it harder to get lonely when people are going out of their way to pay attention to you.

Lady J this is the best time to really revel in your singleness. Trust me, I used to hear those voices that I failed as well. You didnt fail! You tried and at the end of the day it wasnt the best fit for you. You have a beautiful child that you got out of your marriage so focus on nothing but that. I feel like my life is starting over again! Sure nobody wants to get a divorce but it happens and that shouldnt stop you from living. Think about this: you have a chance to do many different things for the holidays now. Start new traditions for you and lil j, embark on some new hobbies or something! Dont allow holidays to be something that you dread. Its time for Lady J to comeback! :-)

Please excuse the long motivational post, but a fellow member of Blogsville was in distress

LadyJ, don’t cry and don’t let yourself succumb to the love songs on the radio. I’m sorry you’re hurting. The demise of most things can be heartbreaking. Please, please, don’t wallow. Life is too short. Since you know you throw your own pity parties, JUST STOP IT! I don’t understand why people do that. Life is too short. Be thankful for the point you’re at in life and mold it to fit the future you’re heading toward. You have a beautiful soul, LadyJ. Try to stay positive.

Tazzee, I truly hope you can make it.

Good morning People!

Who brought in some HOT breakfast this morning?

Single for the Holiday’s heck yea me too… but the benifits: I get to go to ALL the holiday movies, parties, play my christmas CD’s at da house as loud as i want, wrap gifts (i need to get started before everyone’s gift is in tissue paper- last minute), and make eggnog concoctions, oh and open all my gifts too…ALL that with joy and i’m single. I AM okay with that.

BTW giving to UNICEF, Salvation Army, Armed Forces, the hungry, sick, senoirs and church keeps me too busy trying to even think about how single i am.

…I’m cool…. but snuggle buddy (as WD call it) I know you’re out there waiting on me to sit down somewhere so we can finally meet… here’s to you…Muah.

it ain’t being selfish having that non obligatory feeling…..cause let’s be real, when in a ‘lationship, other than a marriage, you’re always taking a chance when buying that other person a gift…you’re saying, what if this mess don’t work out, and I don’ spent loot on this person, or, one of y’all gon’ get short changed……

SexxyLeggs Bell Bottoms Grat place to get the groove on!! Have a good time!!!

I suppose that since I have never been married and that I have also spent so many holidays being single, there really isn’t much that I will do differently than the usual-find out where the cool cocktail spots are and party. The best area up that I have found so far is in Ghent-which somewhat reminds me of the VA-HI area. There are lots of great bars and restuarants. I have been to a few and have met some really great ppl. Hey what can I say “…I love the night life…I love to boogie…” Actually, I would like to grab a few of my buds here, go the beach, build a bonfire and chill-never have done that this time of year, might be a new grove on. I know this, whatever it is that I do, it will be a blast, a gas and the jink. Gotta be, I don’t know it any other way!!!!

2C xmas should be about family and baby jesus/god. the gift part of it really does suck the big one. when giving a gift you shouldn’t really look for something in return. that’s not how it’s suppose to go. this is the reason why thanksgiving is my favorite. if we knew each other and i gave you a gift, i would feel terrible if you had the feeling that you should go out and buy me one. this situation happened to me last year. it was awful. that beautiful bottle of perfume is sitting in my closet now, because i hate looking at it. it was a obligated/guilty present.

Good morning blogsville.

On topic: Dam dating. This is the time to go out and see friends, say thanks to someone that was there, hang out a little, have fun and enjoy wherever you are in life.

I went to a card party saturday and had a great time. Alot of NICE, attractive women having fun and playing games. That was much better than being with some chick guarding you like a pit bull. I had a ball.

This year I’m going to get a few gifts for a few women that have taken care of me, done things for me. My neighbor, my sister, another good friend, an old gf that always stays in touch and we did some business this year, book club members (they take good care of me). Man its great to be single in atlanta.

For us guys maintaining close friendships with women ALWAYS comes with benefits. Maybe not always sexual but a chick that cares for you will give you what she has. Good food, good fun, a soft voice amongst the madness. I’m not relaxing my dating standards, I’m putting them away alltogether to go back and say thanks to those that cared for me this year. Cause while The Truth loves some booty I also adore a woman that gives you something just because she wants you to have it (not sexual). Azz will always be there but a caring chick you never forget.

My .02.

I’ve actually never met someone during this time of year. I wouldn’t be opposed to it, but really, no time of year makes me want to have a SO more than any other.

If the opportunity comes up I will certainly seize it - otherwise - I will enjoy this time of year and remember fortunate I am.

Besides, this year, I’m gonna make AR step out from behind the blog. :)

Lady J True, there are some really great restaurants on the square too. And so many new places were opening up just before I moved. The Red Shoe is s new rest-owend by some AA’s. I love the Karma boutique, Two Stix , the Artist shop on Ponce (as well as the shop next to it). But Karma rocks b/c they sell a lot of items that you would find in more expensive stores (Neiman’s (sp?), Saks, etc) for a more reasonable retail price (it is owned by a couple from India-Jay and Raj). After a while, it is so much to do and so little time-lol

Beautiful Well, can I have the perfume? It’s a shame that it’s just sitting there with nobody smelling it…

SexyLeggs I may just roll through on Saturday. Do you have a limit to the number of people that can come?

Y’all, one of my FAVORITE songs is Let It Snow by Boyz II Men/Brian McKnight. I listen to it year round. I’m SO happy that it’s December, so folks won’t be looking at me all crazy like they do in April when I’m blasting it from the car.

M’Karyl It’s called Coquito. I copied the recipe, but I haven’t tried it yet. Here it is:

2 egg yolks, beaten 1 (12 fluid ounce) can evaporated milk 1 (14 ounce) can cream of coconut 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk 1/2 cup white rum 1/2 cup water 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

DIRECTIONS In the top of a double boiler, combine egg yolks and evaporated milk. Stirring constantly, cook over lightly simmering water until mixture reaches a temperature of 160 degrees F (71 degrees C). The mixture should be thick enough to coat the back of a spoon. Transfer mixture to a blender, and add cream of coconut, sweetened condensed milk, rum, water, cloves, cinnamon, and vanilla. Blend for about 30 seconds. Pour into glass bottles, and chill overnight.

It is cool how you can see the reflection of yourself in your child sometimes.

Tis is so true in many ways. My daughter never ceased to amaze me when I could see me or my mother 9at times her great-gran)in her behavior and attitudes. We all favor so quite often it was like watching a little mimic of ourselves-lol. And she grew up living with my folks in IL, so she really picked up some of my mom’s things. And all I vcould say when she misbehaved was, oh well she is my child and she did get it honest-lol. One of my favorites (her name is Erica) is when she would have something in the misbehaving range. If you asked her “Did you do that?” She would look at yu just a solemn and serious and say ” Oh no, I didn’t do that. Erica did that.-gotta love it!

What do you plan to do for fun during the holidays?

Oh, I would LOVE to go ride around Buckhead and see the Christmas lights. I’m due to put mine up this year. I didn’t want to, but since it’s my first Christmas in this house, I probably should do it.

I also love helping my sister and brother in law play Santa Claus on Christmas Eve. The last two Christmases, I was with someone, so we made it a fun couples thing after the kids went the sleep. If I’m alone this year, I’ll still look forward to that part, because I love putting things together. guess it’s the engineer in me

I’m not about to find somebody to date just for the holiday season. I’m used to being single on the holidays, because even when I had someone, they usually were long-distance. It’s just somebody else to sit at the table when my family eats and one more person to buy a gift for, that’s all.

Lady J It gave me an error when I tried to send you something. I’ll try later…

That is so true. Even when I lived in B’Head, I knew all of the great places to go that weren’t that $$$$$. Mike & Angelo’s, Steamhouse, Rock Bottom, etc. And in the VA-HI there is Manuels, Righteous Room, Neighbor’s, Atkin’s ( a killer brunch menu). I like to eat ethnic foods (Vietnamese, Ehtiopian, Cuban, Dominican, Chinese) so there were always nice places to eat as well. My daughter came to spend the summer with me the year she turned two. And I learned so much from her about the developing and pre-existing temperaments in our children. Believe me, they are very much aware of what is up around them. I don’t know if many ppl would agree with me, but I am a firm believer in speaking to the child’s intelligence as a rule. I not only had good responses with my child this way, but always with other children as well. And yes, there are times when after that and the “Momma Look” don’t work, then they are truly telling you that they want some tough love disipline-be it the hairbrush, the hand, the switch or the extension cord-lol.

Another observation that I made with my child and others is how they absorb so many of the traits from the ppl around them who are their primary caregivers, sans biological ties. So much of their world until about 5 yrs is based upon visual and emotional stimulation. The wonders of God do unfold in the beauty of a child…

What up blog Said while blogging in early, and wondering what can I do to change Page’s fortune around the holidays.

On Topic For me the holidays are the perfect time to meet new people. There are so many parties and women actually have there guards down. I actually see women smiling in the grocery store around this time of year. So to meet someone and start a conversation, this is a great time of year. And I have blogged here before on the benefits of meeting women at house parties rather than the club. You get the true them, not their representative. Plus you get the truth on them, because they have been invited by someone who knows them. So do not stay in the house, go out with friends, get a little tipsy and meet someone. Ladies you still have to shave your legs, just in case you want to slip into something a little more comfortable. And please keep getting your toes done. I’m just saying

@Ared I have been trying to get to a play date for a while. How did you find out about it, and when is the next one?

By M'Karyl

December 4, 2007 1:07 PM | Link to this

Demi

Now it ain’t wrong. I believe that if you talk to them like they have sense, then they learn to listen and articulate the same way. My family never spoke to my daughter with the “goo-goo, gaa-gaa” mess either, and when she began speaking at the age of two she could actually form good basic noun-verb patterns and sentences. Imagine that.

I feel it’s very important for parent to teach their child english first…Ebonic second…gotta keep it hood.

Good English speaking skills are essential and absolute. The hood lingo, dialect, slang-whatever you want to call it comes from the peeps hangin’ out. It is cool to be colored- we can speak the correct and proper English and several versions of our collective cultural and regional tongues. We just be like that…

Cemeeli, I feel you on the ebonics thing. When my daughter was 3 a friend had stopped by. He looked at her and said a few things. He then said “you go girl” and off she went. He looked around asking where she went and I told him what he said and she took it literally. He told me to teach my child some slang. It was really funny.

QDT - I get a list serve of events all around the city once a week. Playdate does have a website tho: www.playdateatl.com. They do it once a month. I had so much fun and for the more seasoned bloggers my friend who is 44 had a blast too. They also sponsor some other fun things around the city too, paint by numbers and Cash Flow (had never heard of cash flow until Saturday, them folks were SERIOUS about it).

And by the way…it was the night of conference championships, but there was a few hundred folks that came out, played games and danced to some old classics and hot hits.

Cemeeli girl, you don’t want your son growing up too uptight, LOL. As of now, Li’man knows very little slang, but proper use of words. I don’t chop up my English around him. Ebonics can be learned later.

And there is no excuse for our kids to speak as bad as they do, I get that ‘you sound white’ all the time. It’s not that I am intelligent; I simply just practice words until over and over again until I could pronounce them correctly.

Hellz, I make all kids under the age of 18 use English around me…you should see the look on their moms face when they talk around me, LOL

LadyJ, Juanita Bynum is on V103. Her ending comment made me think of you. In essence, when something negative affects the core of your life, the only way to excel and not let the negative actions of someone else spoil who you are is to SUCCEED! So, on that note, keep a smile on your face and a song in your heart = forging ahead!

Teaching your children ebonics is like a cracker teaching his kid to speak like a hick. You may think you’re able to ‘speak right’ (sic) but it sounds like it takes such extra effort when you do, you may as well utter the ghetto-speak and suffer the bad first impressions, not to mention the lack of idea conveyance. Get over the ebonics nonsense.

The holidays are a wonderful time of year, whether single or in a relationship. The holidays usually a good catalyst for some extra motivation to focus on appreciation and sharing. If you’re in a relationship, then show your appreciation for that person. If you’re single, then focus your energies on your family and close friends. Of course, you can always volunteer to help those whose fortune is less than yours. So appreciate what you have, focus on self-improvement, and share your joy with others. Your glow will be apparent at the many holiday gatherings or other places you might visit, and just maybe the person the you’ve been wanting to notice will.

Good looking out Soro. I want to go to at least one to say I have been there, done that. What is the site that sends you things every week. I am so out of the loop, when it comes to most of those things. Usually I am chilling or hitting a few spots, but it is usually because someone tells me where it is.

Off topic A while ago I used to hit the club circuit hard, it was Justins then the Conga on Monday, Tuesday was Bell Bottoms, Wednesday was 112 for comeday night, Thursday was Apache spoken word, hip hop, Friday the Buckhead club scene, or 559, or the lamp post, or a strip club, and Saturday was liquid or 112 or That three level club that was downtown cant remember the name, Sunday was Otto’s which became the club that Ray Lewis made famous can’t remember the name, or Dugans on ponce. What are the places to go now. I get that question all the time, when people come to town and I honestly can’t answer.

Now, we be talkin’ sugah!! Gets ta’ steppin’ in dem’ fine go-go boots!!! Sister-there are so few valleys of despair that I have not traveled alone; and so many heights of desire that I dared, once upon a time, to not dream. But AL Jarreau said:

Could you believe in a dream When I tell you that it’s true? Would you believe precious friend of mine?

Could you believe when it seems You are glad with what you do It will give you the courage to carry The courage to carry your spirit up on high? Just to carry your spirit up on high

I saw people in trouble I heard the angels cry ‘Now don’t tamper with my children’ Made the Devil fly Spent the night with David He taught me what to say I was looking for a smooth stone When I heard him pray

Could you believe in a dream When I tell you that its true? Would you believe precious friend of mine? Would you believe when it seems You are glad with what you do It will give you the courage to carry your spirit Up on high?

Oh, I could sing of all kinds of reasons Reasons to lay your burden Softly down What kings and prophets did for freedom Precious dreams imprisoned Underground Well, I’ve got this song that I’ll sing And I’ll make the mountains ring Tell my mama That I’m homeward bound

Could you believe in a dream When I tell you that it’s true? Would you believe precious friend of mine?

Could you believe when it seems You are glad with what you do It will give you the courage to carry The courage to carry your spirit up on high Just to carry your spirit up on high

Another plus about the list is that it has a listing of several clubs, art galleries, lounges, etc that are around the city. So even if nothing is happening that you like on any given weekend, you can hit up a spot that you may have not been to before.

My absolute favorite mantra:

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same”.

Bells will be ringing The glad, glad news Oh, what a Christmas To have the blues My baby’s gone I have no friends To wish me greetings Once again

Choirs will be singing “Silent Night” Christmas carols By candlelight Please come home for Christmas Please come home for Christmas If not for Christmas Then by New Year’s Night

Friends and relations Send salutations Sure as the stars shine above It’s Christmas time, my dear The time of year To be, with the one you love

Then won’t you tell me You’ll never more roam Christmas and New Year’s Will find you home There’ll be no more sorrow No grief and pain Then I’ll be happy, happy Once again

No more sorrow No grief and pain But I’ll be happy Christmas Once again

Das There is nothing worse than throwing a nice one some shorts to put on and she has ashy hairy legs. Please just one or the other.

M’Karyl I see you have been partying for some years. Did you say V’s , and the Sans Souci. You might be one of those Fine Matures.

4Real Honestly I don’t let the students in my class use improper language. Only Standard American English. But it is too funny when I slip and they correct me.

Demi Boy you wild.

Dreams Hope I didn’t grab your backside back then.

Page Got you. Can you check at home? Check later on tonight. I have a wrestling meet.

Let me back up for a moment DasV. If you’re comfortable w/what you’re wearing and you feel really good about how you look, then that’s all that’s matter. You’re in Corporate America so you definitely know what’s acceptable in terms of dress code. It does not matter what your co-workers think. If the head honchos haven’t called you into the office because of your attire on any given day…it’s all good!

DasV Now,sugah, when I worked in some of those offices there, I saw ppl wearing things that I would not be seen escorting my trash to the curb in at night (in my invisible cape)-lol.

I was always suprised by what some ppl thought was appropriate for work; and then again some ppl have no real fashion sense either. What I always considered to be appropriate was “over-dressed”, but these comments came from ppl who wore “yard clothes” on business casual days or casual days

QueDogTeaching, when I first walked into Sans Souci I thought I walked into a barnyard full of bumpkins. Sorry, but I was straight from NY at that time. After a while, I realized the people were really cool and music was off da chain. I partied at all the spots back in the day.

I couldn’t get past the blue jacket and skirt suit.

kimmie naaaa, girl. it dont matta what shade of blue it was. white boots at work is a no-no. white shoes period i thought was off-limits. someone correct me if im wrong

Cee not shorts. blue suit jacket, cream blouse, matching blue skirt and white boots… with no less than 3inch heels.

and walkin behind the sista in the furry boots even I couldnt help look at her booty…. her pants were so tight!

still LOLROTF

im pretty conservative at work…. same earrings, same pair of glasses, same basic tops, skirts and pants that are all inter-changeable… muted colors… my personality adds the right amount of color

but you know how i do all the other times… my RL velvet piece was ready for the wedding and i rocked it! with a cream turtle neck and cream pants and a matching verabradley sling purse, so’s i could get my dance on!

sEXYLEGGs i feel ya girl! but for the record: neva fluff wit me girl… if im actin or dressin like a hot mess tell me so with NO hesitation. we both grown.

DasV/SexyL - I figured it was not Das, but I was sort of following SexyLeggs and being PC too:) Yeah, snow boots with fur tassels (or anything with visible fur, for that matter) I think is inappropriate for the office workplace - JMHO. Baby blue would work a little better with white boots, but still a hot mess!

DasV, Sexyleggs & M’Karyl & MK your name is hard @ heck to type fast :-). What is it with the making a fashion statement like that at the workplace anyway? I’ve been trying to figure that one out for a minute. If 90% of the office is wearing Brooks, Bach or whatever… somewhere in your fashionist mindsight you had to get the understanding at the office dress protocol. And please tone down the stiletto’s!

Just type M’. M’Karyl is my first initial and my middle name with a spelling variation. The M’ means of the people in one the the East(?)African languages when it is placed before a word (think M’Tume). And carols are songs or voices in harmony. So I adapted my own variation to mean voice of the ppl-and ppl really do call me 0”M apostrophe” as my name. And it means voice of the ppl.

But the fashions, chirl, I just do not understand WTF!!! It is like maybe we should do a city-wide show of “What Not to Wear’?????

And some fashions just need to stay in de’ house when you ain’t leavin’ home. MK that’d be translated to -Yo’ pajama pants aint’ workin’ and slippers and socks too. NO! Now when i see you head out for the night you bling down. What is that?

If you want to read an interesting book on the history of African American fashion and culture, check out- Stylin’: African American Expressive Culture from Its Beginnings to the Zoot Suit”

This book was written by two Euro-Australian historians and it is truly on point. And now I know where the “boogie” look comes from…a must read.

OH and DasV one day I just said to a intern here at work. She walked over to my desk one day to ask a question and I just turned around and saw legs and cleavlage with some colors everywhere, something i don’t remember exact. and i said ….Where are you going?…she started laughing. I giggled too b/c i was not letting her off the hook (laughing it off). So we got in a convo about proper dress…she was cool and embraced it. Great academic graduate of Hampton homegirl school me on some things too.

It covers fromslavery to 20th century how the AA style in fashion developed and what factors influenced it expression. It really does explain why we do have our own unique code and manner when it comes to dress. It even covers teh difference in the South and the North, etc.
