Keeping cool, eTMI, and leaving Atlanta
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
I decided to take a (web)page out of my favorite AJC blog, Thinking Right’s column, so I am making today a Friday free-for-all. Pick a topic:
This long hot summer is making it hard to stay cool AND cute on the dating scene. Diva doesn’t do humidity, so I don’t like to come out to mix or mingle till the sun is setting and the temps are more tolerable. What cool (ice cold!) ideas do you have for getting out and about? How do you handle dating in the warmer temperatures? I may try to pull a hottie into the kitchen - but only for a cooking class! Some places even offer “date nights” for couples to turn up the heat!
Earlier this week, we spoke about putting all your cards on the table. Well, it seems that my potential guy of interest wanted to see my cards. He found out that I write a dating column, then after a little digging online, he found an old blog of mine. Now, I have never put anything on the web that I was embarrassed about, but I do wonder what he was trying to find out. Do you ever worry about too much of your personal life or semi-personal life being on the internet?
I have had two intense flirting sessions with a guy in my building. We seem to always meet up in the elevator. Is it a bad idea to date your neighbor? Have any of you ever dated someone on your block, in your complex, or in your building? How did it turn out? Any advice on “love thy neighbor” dating?
After traveling internationally this spring, I am getting antsy for another road trip. Unfortunately, my job is extremely busy this time of year. What weekend getaways would you suggest to get a break from dating, work, and stress? When was the last time you took some “me time” and relaxed? If you could be anyplace else besides Atlanta, where would you go this weekend - if money and time were not an issue?
HAPPY FRIDAY EVERYONE!

Morning All Fruit tray, scones and muffins, and fruit smoothies for breakfast.
On topic: I don’t think I have anything on that net that people don’t already know about me Twinkie googles herself to double check that all her secrets are still in the trunk
As far as summer dates, I like to keep it light. Go out after the sun goes down…putt putt, picnics, dinner..the usual.
I will add more later…must tackle some work =-)

If you could be anyplace else besides Atlanta, where would you go this weekend - if money and time were not an issue? Myrtle Beach, Miami, or New Orleans! The key is anywhere but ATL!! Man I could use a break right now…
I really dont have much for the other topics, not currently dating and I have never had neighbors cute enough to consider dating!! LOL
Thanx Twinkie for the goodies! Mo helps herself to some fruit and a smoothie

Good Morning Everybody! Wise OMG, Know he didn’t do his on investigation on you.lol Now that is funny. I am a morning person. I will get up and run errands but i tend to wait to the evening time to go on dates. As far as dating on the job, Girrrrl don’t do it. I remember this guy that used to work with me about a year ago, his was ffffine and he thought the same about me, talk about attraction. I know the only thing that kepts us from going the next step was the good lord( i was practicng celebicay)cause a sistah was soooo weak. I was sad when he transferred out, I know it was the best cause i would have been on my knees repenting.lol

Morning QC Dang, can I come too. Your get-a-way sounds really appealing. “all exclusive 5 star hotel with somebody’s Son” LOL!
I brought in the magic cooler again today since i might not be able to tend bar. Feel free to help yourself. I’ve upped the refills from limit of 3 to 5 today.
It’s Friday Bips, Lets Get Fugged UP!
Like Mo I’ve never lived close enough to some irresistable cutie for me to date. As good as it may seem as far as accessibility, i’m sure the down side to being that close could be fatal. You couldn’t act like you weren’t at home because all buddy have to do it look and see your car outside. LOL!

Woohooo!!!! It’s Friday!!!!!!
This time of year in the “A” brings one thing (that I could do without)…….bad hair weather! The humidity makes my hair go poof, so if I could be anywhere else right now……..an Alaskan cruise……..anywhere that I could swim and snorkel (and not care about my hair)….I have a ton of them!
Thanks Ladies for the grub! lol
It’s gonna be a reaaallll short day for me…….everybody ready for the get together tomorrow?

Morning Blog Fam
Long time no blog, but I’ve been lurking now and then.
Hey Slim, Sexi, T-Mango, Kym, Kinder, NC, and the MLB
Hope everyone is doing well.
On Topic: I’ve never dated a neighbor, but have dated a co-worker. The relationship was great, except for the moments we were not on good speaking terms. It is hard to avoid your SO when you work together. I think I would avoid getting involved with someone I work with, much less someone that lives next door. Being accessible to each other has its advantages, but can be a big nuisance at times.

Good morning to the WLB and MLB. Hey IG, NC, QC, Slim, Sexi, Twinkle,MsU, Mo,(please insert your name here) Too many folks to name. Whew!
I’ve been taking alot of me time lately simply because I felt myself on the verge of burning out. So, the spa Key Lime Pie is one of my favorite places to go to unwind on a dime. However, if time/money were not an issue I’d be on a 12 day tour of Spain that I’d been interested in taking for awhile right now.

Good Morning Ladies, yes it is Friday, it’s about time! Oh ya, Good Morning MLB, hope your having a good day.
I don’t do many daytime dates in the summer, 12 to 5, it’s just too hot. I prefer to spend this time inside getting ready for my date. Some summer dates have been a movie on the green, Jazz listening wherever we could find it, a mere grocery shopping outing to a Farmers Market, the seafood section can keep you really entertained.

* GOOD MORNING ROOM* How is everyone? Whats up QC,T-mango,Mo,Slim1, Sexi1, Ladylike, IslandGirl,Cemeeli,Twinkie GORILLA O and who ever else logs on before this post!!! THe only way to date in the summer is to stay in and watch a movie and talk till the sun goes down and you can bare the weather!!! As far as dating someone on or around the block in the same neighborhood I wouldnt recommend it because or privay issues but you can get away with it. if you have a room mate and your dating more than one person, if the person in the neighbor hood sees someone of the oppostie sex leaving or entering your home all you have to say is she/he was here for my room mate. or you dont have to explain yourself since you all are only dating!!!! I have been to jekyell island to just get away for a while

I like the hot summer weather. Bring on the heat! A little sweat never hurt anyone. Oh yeah, southern women don’t sweat, they glisten.
You can’t find a thing about me with search engines. I advocate privacy, and I find it’s not hard to keep oneself non-traceable.
I dated a woman that lived in my subdivision awhile ago. What a disaster! It’s like I couldn’t get away from her. I figured I’d go the other way after that, and dated a lot of women from outlying towns. Another disaster! What a bunch of country chicks. I don’t have a country bone in my body.
Go to the beach for the weekend. Sweetie and I are doing a week on the beach a couple weeks from now.

Hey’all! Dating in the summer is hard, its even harder to get sexed up.This humidity sapps your energy, its stick, maan, just yack. Thats wahy i prefer to take all my vacation days all at once in August. I will be in Hitlon Head for two weeks starting August 11. At least there i can keep all the windows to my Cabana open and me and my lady of the moment just lay nekid, enjoying the breeze. Sexing there is better coz its cooler with that Ocean nearby. Good Morning all…
I have never dated someone really close.
In college, my girlfried was in Princeton while I was down here in the South. So we weren’t close. I always said “No” to dating co-workers. The risk didn’t outweigh the reward. I didn’t need any drama on the job.
I met my wife during a session of 8 minute dating (speed dating). I lived in Norcross while she lived downtown.
I always that some time apart from each other was always good. Not for cheating, but for sanity.
If I could go away this weekend, I would go to NYC. The wife & I have this B&B in Brooklyn called Akwaaba at which we stay. (A former Monique Greenwood, former editor of Essence Magazine, owns a chain of these B&B’s.) Anyway, I love to take in a day of shopping (yes, I like to shop every once in a while. Thank God H&M is coming to Atlantic Station, soon) Also, I like catching a play or two.

Morning All!
Let’s see if I can cover all of Wise’s topics:
Dating in the summer - I like the heat, even this Texas humidity doesn’t get me down. Since I wear my hair in a ponytail the majority of the time anyway - hair is not an issue.
eTMI - I’m pretty much an open book, so if someone I was dating saw something on the web that I had not told him - that just means I hadn’t gotten around to it yet. With that said, I don’t freely offer up my blog to every guy I come across, but if he read it - I’d have no problem.
neighbor dating - I’ve never dated a but there was this fine chocolate brother that lived downstairs from me when I was in a relationship. To give a visual - he’s like the African Doctor in Mo’Nique’s movie, but without the little teeth. That brother used to tempt me all the time and it didn’t help that my guy at the time was not one to give compliments. So I could be coming from the laundry room with sweats on and he would be standing outside with no shirt on telling me how beautiful I was.
getaways - my life is me time, LOL. I can’t even begin to chronicle all my travels this year. But the last time I had some real me-time was when I spent my birthday on Miami Beach alone. Great view of the beach from my room and the hotel had a surf-side restaurant. It was nice. If I were in Atlanta and I wanted a quick getaway, I would probably go to Savannah.

I so need some relaxation this weekend. I woke up this morning with a knot so tight in my back it has my head hurting. I don’t know if it is tension or if I slept the wrong way but that little sucker is giving me the blues. I would love to go to a spa tomorrow to get it taken care of but one I have a ton of stuff to do and two I don’t want to spend the money.
One good thing is I will be doing all my shopping and errands this weekend alone so I will not have anyone slowing me down or trying to get me to buy stuff we really don’t need.

Starlight can be fun. We usually make picnic food and take it along. They can’t keep you from having food in your car. It can be very economical.
As previously stated, you have to be aware of kids, though.
Belize was gorgeous. Some of the clearest bluest water that I’ve seen. Not only that, we took a ride inland to visit some Mayan Ruins, and that was interesting as well.

Good morning Everyone!
Let’s see…How do you handle dating in the warmer temperatures? Indoor activities are preferred, unless we are out in the early evenings.
Do you ever worry about too much of your personal life or semi-personal life being on the internet? Not really. Professionally, I have a web site for my business. It’s home-based and my contact information is on the website. But, anyone who knows me already has this information.
Is it a bad idea to date your neighbor? Have any of you ever dated someone on your block, in your complex, or in your building? I have never dated a neighbor. I believe it is a bad idea to date a neighbor. Waaay too close for comfort. Besides, if he is sore after the break up and I begin seeing someone else, he might try some stupid stuff. Ditto for working at the same company or office building.
If you could be any place else besides Atlanta, where would you go this weekend - if money and time were not an issue? Can I pick more than one!? Jacksonville, FL. A friend recommended it as a nice weekend getaway. Time has not permitted me to go yet, and since I am in a relationship now I would prefer that our schedules coincide so we can enjoy the place together. Now that I think about it, I do not believe I ever received the visitor’s guide that I requested…
Something to think about: When you are content to be simply yourself and don’t compare or compete, everybody will respect you.
Have a Powerful, Productive, Prosperous and Positive Day and Weekend!!!

Jewel I’m going to Jacksonville in September. It’s for football, but I hope to get an idea of whether or not it would be a nice getaway spot.
My problem - being in Houston, is that I love the beach but I only like blue water - not the brown water here. So I have to go to the east or left cost to get my water fixes. Which, I’ll be on the left coast for Labor Day - and I can’t wait!

Poppa Grande I did not know we were getting an H&M. Now I feel like home is coming to ATL. Cool…thanks for the heads up! I have nevre herad of that B&B. Where in BK is it? Musing’s getting hitched? Wow! God Bless! If I could be anywhere but here…lets see..I just left the Caribbean 2 months ago…so it woukd have to be Hawaii. I am going for my birthday in December. It’s strange how I was born in a cold month in a cold place…I love the beach, warm weather and just doing anything outdoors. I am a nature buff. I do want to go to Africa and Australia to check out the wild life. But I think I was a fish in my former life. I love the marine world…oh and the men in Marine Uniforms…but that’s a whole other story. So Kobe’s getting divorced..NOT shocked! She knew what to do to get him…stay with him after the incident…get knocked up again and make sure she rocks that 4million dollar rock for being humiliated in public. I am NOT mad at Nessa! She is young but not stupid. He is! He has no leg to stand on…his dirt was exposed! I knew it would happen!

WiseDiva Speaking of outdoors, summer heat and cooking classes, while we were in Florida Mason and I had dinner one evening at the house of one of his old friends. They had this fancy smancy beach house which was nice, but anyway, uh…oh yeah…we had dinner outside on the deck and the guy had a teppanyaki grill that he showed out on. This guy is like 6’ 7” weighing what looks like to be 300 plus but he worked that teppanyaki grill. And the food tasted good too. It was typical Florida hot but as the night progressed a breeze began to blow off from the water and it ended up being a very entertaining and relaxing evening.
On our way back to the hotel Mason said that that was something he would like to learn to do. Now coming from “mr. cook eeeevery now and then” I am willing to help him find a class to learn. It will mean us eating Japanese type cuisines every weekend for about a month because he will have to show off his skills to all of our friends but anything is okay if I don’t have to cook.

Tazzee My friend moved here from Jacksonville last year. He hated it, but Atlanta was where a contract job led him. He’s in SC now. He loves the beach and would often return to Jacksonville to de-stress. He suggested it for the beach and also mentioned a show on Fridays (can’t remember the name of the place) that’s similar to Showtime at the Apollo. He also suggested St. Augustine, which is not far from Jacksonville. BTW, I looove Savannah! My first visit, I stayed at a black-owned B&B that is now closed. I considered moving there a few years ago after my daughter graduated from high school. I chickened out. LOL!

Oh yeah…would I date a neighbor or co-worker…Hellz no! Well I never dated a neighbor…that is too close for comfort. I do not need you seeing when I am coming in and if I am alone or not. But as I mentioned before I have made the mistake of the office romance. It did not turn out well…for the first one. He thought he was the man and I quickly squashed that myth with tales of his uh…short comings! And I mean that in both ways possible! Not to mention I then moved on to bigger and better…his office rival! I know…I was scandalous! But I was fresh out of a hurtful relationship and I was on that Dog Every Man Stage! I no longer do that…but I can’t say I have not thought about it!

That’s right now close your mouth ‘Cause you cold busted Now just sit down here, sit down here I’m so upset with you I don’t know what to do
You know my first impulse was to run up on you And do a Rambo I was about to jam you and flat blast both of you But I didn’t wanna mess up this thirt-seven hundred dollar lynx coat So instead I chilled — That’s right chilled
I called up the bank and took out every dime. Than I cancelled all your credit cards… I stuck you up for every piece of jewelery I ever bought you!

Did you all know THAT:
I miss my son dearly. He has been in Ann Arbor for 2-1/2 weeks now and I miss him so much. (sniff) Although school does not start until the first week of September he, along with my brother, convinced me to let him stay there to get “acquainted” with the Detroit living. I sent him a Wachovia Visa Buxx card to regulate his spending otherwise he will go broke quickly.
My youngest son let me know that he will not be attending college after high school because he will work with his father. (sigh) Rolling my eyes
I let the dog stay outside all night last night so I wouldn’t have to hear her whine. No one was there but me so…
My panties and bra don’t match today because as I went to put on my bra I realized this kink in my back would not allow me to achieve the behind the fastened technique. So I grabbed a front closer from the drawer and let it be what it is.
I am ready to go home.

OFF TOPIC
Actually, I don’t know what the topic is, but I just had to come here and post this.
Ladies How would you feel if a guy you’ve been on one date with sent flowers. To your house. And you NEVER game him your address. (BTW, he spent A LOT of money on these flowers). How would you handle it.
Guys How would you advise a close female friend on this situation? Would you do something like this (not so much about sending the flowers, but use alternative methods to get someones home address to surprise them in any way)
THANKS!!!

Cem I am an organization freak. What I buy in sets I fold in sets therefore I wear in sets. I have one drawer for the singles that I probably purchased like a pack of Hanes at Walmart or 5 for $25 at VS. But if I also buy tanks to where to bed with the singles I usually wash together and fold together and they get put in the drawer that houses all the sets of undies that I own. It seems like a lot of extra work but really it isn’t. It’s just color coordinating as I go. Put them away together and get them out together.
Now as far as your “sets” problem, almost anywhere will let you buy as you need. Where are you shopping?

Girl, I’d be creeped out too! But, as someone who spends some of her time trying to find mugs (to get them served, of course), I know there are many ways to find an address. And a lot of it is public record…I won’t reveal it b/c I don’t want to give lurking stalkers any ideas. But, it could be as simple as they know someone in common. In which case, your cousin needs to smack that person in the back of the head for giving out her info.

ImAPeach That’s borderline creepy. I don’t know how long you guys knew each other before this first date though.
I’ve been creative in my day, but I always tried to respect her space. I still respect my wife’s space.
I just don’t do anything to someone else that I wouldn’t want done to me. I would be a little bit offended.
When I was single there a number of females that never knew what I stayed. We either met up somewhere or I picked her up. We had to be pretty serious for me to take her home. Therefore, I didn’t want the others to know where I stayed. Some of my dates were an order of fries short of an happy meal..if you know what I mean. I didn’t want any stalkers endangering me or my roomates (one of which was a female).

ImAPeach404. I’m assuming that he did not have your work address. If that’s the case it definitely shows he’s resourceful. It was a nice gesture. Most men send the flowers to the office(unless you work at home).
At least he sent them…he could’ve showed up at your door. Surprise!! Unfortunately, we live in an age where so much info is available it is ridiculous. I typed in my address one day and was able to get directions from my office to my front door. So, if I can get it, others can too. That may be how he got it…all he needs is your phone number, first/last name, and the city you live in to look you up.
I’d sincerely thank him for the flowers. Then, I’d ask him very nicely “So how did you find my home address?” See what his response is…he most likely just wanted to do something nice for you. But, if his response to the “address question” activates your creep-o-meter, then keep your eyes and ears open…
Do you like this man?

ForReal In case no one ever told you a crumbled up wrinkled t-shirt makes a nicely pressed dress shirt just look bad. And no I do not iron his drawers I just immediately remove them from the dryer. LOL
And which charge do you want? Before or after I have you remove all items from the premises?
Okay let me quit for a second and read what Imapeach has posted.

Raqi I am getting most my sets from like Target…i check out Vickey’s during end of season sales. But her pieces i try and match as close as i can. I do a lot of black and reds as i mentioned. Thanks for the tips on coordinating. I think i’ll try.

My panties and bra don’t match today,Wise and Raqi I didnt know we can say that but just to match yu all:all summer i have been wearing my boxers with holes on the bottom, everyday to work. Its good 4 my cooling coz my long dyck can just go thru the hole and not be crumbled inside. I dont like that sweat underneath to cause an itch on the BOSS!!

Poppa I totally agree with you. Creepy for sure! And you are spot on about respecting peoples space. I was so glad when I moved a few months back b/c I started to feel like too many guys knew where I stayed. I vowed this time around, NO DATES AT THE HOUSE NO MATTER WHAT!!! When a weirdo knows where you live, thats a bit unsettling to me. Women and men need to be cautious of this.
T-Mango I’m sure by now you know I was talking about my cousin - but, I’m not sure how she feels about him just yet. If she was feeling anything, I think this kind, yet creepy, jesture may just curb it. My cousin works from home, so there wasn’t an option to send to work. That would have been much more acceptable…
Lol @ Ladylike my sentiments exactly!

Don’t nobody care about his little chicken wang…and didn’t his momma teach him not to go out of the house in dirty, holey underwear?! What if he gets in a wreck? They’ll be all over the news talking about some man, got in a wreck on I-20, and rescue personel didn’t know where to start first, resuscitation or his holey draws…Lawd!

Jewel Now if we were talking boa constrictors, then i’d lend him a free pass. Garden snakes aren’t allowed in my garden but i’ll be sure to send him over to yours. LOL
melo Boy you’s a fool. U know like how Truth do..bang and discard like a condom. Now you know he never throws them things away. Afterwards, he fills them with water to make sure there were no holes in them, log it in his journal and put them in shoeboxes in his closet. He keeps them archived as evidence in case a hoochie claims her cycle is late.

ImAPeach404 I didn’t see all of the other detail until after I posted and refreshed my screen…
That changes the game. Your cousin met him online, no name on the card, not answering the call from your cousin is suspect. Why play “secret admirer” when you’ve already interacted with the person on some level? But, he has to respond to her call. It’ll be interesting to see how it plays out.
