Better with age

Apparently, I’m getting old.

Yes, my 26th birthday is coming up in less than a week. But more to the point, I’ve noticed lately that I am becoming attracted to considerably older men. We’re talking 10, 20 years older than me in some cases. Balding or gray hair or wrinkles no longer bother me in the least. In fact, I even commented yesterday that I like Brad Pitt best with the silver hair!

Part of this is probably due to my absolute aversion to dating younger men. I am sure there are some lovely, mature 24-year-old guys out there (in fact, one of my friends is dating one!) but to me, after a number of bad experiences, I’ve sworn that I won’t go younger again. Still, though, I wasn’t expecting to go so to the opposite extreme in my taste!

Is this something that tends to evolve with time? Have you ever had the moment of realization where you started to see older — like, gasp, middle aged! — men and women as very attractive for the first time?

Would you rather date older or younger, and why? Do you have a cutoff: ie, you won’t go more than 10 years older (or younger), or similar? If so, how did you develop those limits?

Morning ALL and this is day 2 of the Vacation Countdown

I can’t say I’ve have some sort of ephiphany when it comes to a dating age or anything like that. I prefer to date guys that are my age and up. My experiences with younger guys have not faired in my favor which is my turn-off of yougin’s. As you get older, I’m sure who the dating pool associated with your age is going to change. Which in turn may cause you to change who you’d want to put in the lineup.

I don’t necessarily have a cutoff age. But I don’t want to feel like I’m dating my dad or a “Dirty Old Man” either. When I feel that potential gross factor, I tend to run the other way. The oldest guy i’ve ever dated was 37.

Good Morinig Everybody!! Great Topic Laney!

I have had my share of dating younger men (mid 20’s)each time i was disappointed. I am in my late 20’s and i am attracted more so to guys in their late 30’s to early 40’s. I believe the cause is because female mature faster than male. I realize as i get older my tolereance level in dealing with realationship just get lower & lower. I would rather deal with an older man who is mentally stable than a younger man who has no idea. .

Morning Blog.

I’m a 24 year old young professional in Atlanta and there are plenty of well qualified women here. I always say that my age range is 23-27, mainly because I am still learning and this range still has learning and growing to do. I did briefly date a 36 year old woman and that was interesting. We were just at different points in our lives. FYI, I think the official term for older women who like younger guys is “Cougars”. I’m not sure what they call older guys that like younger women.

Good morning all-

I’ve tried older and younger(26ish). Can’t do younger again. At 33, so most of the folks I interact with range between 30-45 years old. I can’t make a statement that it “gets better with age.” It should…but that is not always the case. So, age is one thing. Maturity level is another. It is a critical factor.

Sup Blog…up until this year…i preferred younger women…due to me being attracted to “jazzy” type females with natural youthful beauty…that and in my mind..picturing older women more of an “auntie” type…u know.. church “girdle” wearing women with no sx appeal.I get hit on them A LOT.But recently i have ran across some Very attractive older females and the lack of games and maturity is sxy..they work out…eat right and maintain themselves with out the need of men financing it..So all is needed for me to do is add to it if needed..My age range use to be 23-36…the new age is 28-45…I have always had a thing for Clair Huxtable…some women age like fine wine..

I have for the last 10 yrs dated women that are 10 to 13 younger than me and it has been great. However, I have met some really cool chicks in the late 30’s early 40’s range that are appealing in alot of ways. For one they seem to have a better grasp on their emotions and for 2 by that time they have either been married and are over that or cool with themselves.

Good Morning Everyone

I think I would have a hard time dating a guy in his 20s because I remember what dating guys in their 20s were about…not interested in going back to that scene. Most guys in their 20s are trying to get their career started, sow their wild oats, etc…At this stage in my life I’m looking for a partner who is on the same path and stage…career driven, but family focused! I’ve never dated anyone in their 40s either…they would have to be pretty energetic…most of the late 30s and 40 year old men I know wouldn’t be able to hang with my lifestyle….it’s pretty active. But I’m sure there are exceptions…

For me, within 5 years of my age is good. 10-15 years younger has proven to be not so good for me — that’s enough to put people at different stages in life, and while one can be friends with folks like that, significant relationships don’t work so well. It is a thing though, I must admit, that most women my age (late 40’s) seem to have tended to let themselves go, not keep themselves in shape, and that doesn’t work for me either. My girl is 1 year older than me, and gorgeous!

Lady J Yeah, it’s funny to me now because whenever a really young guy tries to talk to me I can’t help but laugh. I know I don’t look 29 but I know I can’t possibly pass for 19-22 either. This one dude was like 22 and tried to holla at me. He was trying so hard and I told him that I felt he was too young for me. So he gives his whole spill so I give in and give him my number. Well this dude showed his age really soon. Later on that night I get a text message from him but it doesn’t sound like it was intended for me. Anyway, it says something like, Bro I just met this 9.99 and I can’t wait to hang out with her. She is beautiful….So i’m sitting there like I kno this dude didn’t purposely send this text to me acting like he meant to send it to his brother. LOLOLOLOL!!! He swore up and down it was a mistake. That was too cheesy to me and so NOT believable. I never called him or took his calls after that.

Morning All

First off, I want to say welcome to Bella. I did not get a chance to post on yesterday, but I’m sure you guys had a great time getting to know each other.

Slim…I getting more jealous as your vacation grows near.

Laney, this is a great topic. I’ve always dated older men. Most people would think this is inappropriate but at 18yrs, my boyfriend was 33yrs. Our relationship was great because he was a gentleman and treated me like a queen. Since then, I dated strictly older men.

Today, my buddy is younger than I am. I can tell you in the beginning of our friendship, it was an awkward experience for me, but he is so mature that I don’t even consider his age anymore (that is another topic).

From experience, I can truly say age is nothing but a number. I’ve learned that the dynamics of a good relationship involves much more than a person’s age. I’ve dated older men with successful careers, money and a level of independence and have found some of the older guys to be less honest and set in their ways. Any which way, it really boils down to the individual person.

Morning All!

First of all - HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE WISEST OF ALL DIVAS!!! As Samantha said to Carrie on SITC ‘welcome to my bracket’

On topic - I would be skeptical of dating a guy in his 20s, but I wouldn’t over rule it automatically. I think my cutoff for older guys is 10 years older. I can’t quite see myself with a 50 year old man just yet.

But I honestly must say that I look better with each passing year - so I can’t be mad at the younger guys for trying to be with me ;-)

Morning……

Air kisses to the WLB, grinding hugs to the MLB

Y’all are too funny on the Sugardaddies and Cougars……

I have always dated older (except for maybe twice) because of the maturity level that most times (or should) come with age. Now that doesn’t mean I haven’t come across an old fool or two, but it is my starting point. Youngins just don’t seem to be in the same place priority-wise, sexually, mentally, socially…all that. Now I do have a limit in my mind both ways (older and younger), but it is not written in stone…….I use it on a case by case basis.

abc I feel ya……most men over 40 have let themselves go too….beer guts and whatnot….definitely a deal breaker for me.

Interesting topic. My current age range is 25-35, but for some odd reason I lately come across girls around 23-24. I’m pushing it with girls 25 cause around that age most girls generally don’t know what they want. All they really know is they don’t want to be hurt by a dude … but that’s just in general.

I’ve noticed that guys around the 35-37 year old age range tend to be very….how should I say…active…(h)orny. I thought the drive was supposed to dwindle around this age? Those are the ones that tend to gravitate towards me for some reason. I don’t know if The slimness draws them in or what but I guess because like abc mentioned, some older chicks have let themselves go. As one dude put it, they remind him of those biscuits in a can. It’s all rolled tight and pretty in the packaging, but as soon as you undo the wrapper, POP! everything boils over, sort of like pulling the string on an inflatable raft. LOLOL!

Good morning Everyone - I’ve always dated older men (6 to 8 years older) maybe once I’ve dated a guy 2 years younger than me. It’s not that I prefer to date older men that’s just how it flows. Now adays I’m not looking to go older. I prefer to go younger because most older men that I have been meeting has been married a time and our goals aren’t the same as far as commitment.

When I was younger I remember the older ladies in the family used to say that older men gives you worms.

By Got that?

June 28, 2007 9:53 AM | Link to this

I tend to take people as individuals. I’ve run across a ton of so called mature women of all ages that makes me question whether women really do mature faster than men or whether they mature at the same rate, but have differing experiences. As far as age limits are concerned, there are generational gaps that I will not cross. So, that’d be probably 15 years older, but only 10 years younger. Anymore or any less is really stretching it.

By Lady J

Now the 40 and older crew seem a bit more controling to me bc I feel they are too set in their ways…Now I like ro be lead, directed and redirecteed but don’t tell me what to do and how to do it ALL the time…I am truly independent in decision making and like alot of input but I truly beat to my own drum…This group puts more fear in my fanny I may say!:)lolol

I have never been in an abusive relationship but I saw what my dad did to my mom and he wasn’t much older but those flashbacks come into play when I sniff an ounce of controling behavior!

Good morning Everyone!

Is this something that tends to evolve with time? This is possible, depending on one’s past experience. If one has had negative experiences with a certain age group, one might consider changing the age range. Personally, I have always been attracted to older men. In part, because of “daddy issues.” You know, looking for the father figure to replace some of the contact I did not have with my father; possibly expecting him to do what my father never did. Beyond this, I have always been mature beyond my years. Therefore, younger guys were a bore, immature, could not hold my attention; and certainly not able to teach me much of anything about love and relationships.

I am in the True Grown and Sexy age group: 40 and better. My age limit is 10 years older…not quite ready for the geriatric group.

Have you ever had the moment of realization where you started to see older — like, gasp, middle aged! — men and women as very attractive for the first time? Quite the opposite for me. Occasionally, I notice attractive, younger men.

Have a Powerful, Productive, Prosperous and Positive Day!!!

Sexione That is the Youngins favorite line, “I like Older women, that’s all I date.” I’m thinking, Ahhh No. I know my purpose in life is not to teaching Growing Pains 101 & 102. lol The granddaddies are Uggghhh GROSS! I tell my cousin all the time that when you date older guys you run the risk of meeting that one thats in a whole different generation than you…You know the ones that think the women should be seen not heard, cook, clean, bear the kids, wait on them hand and foot, dress like a ho when you date but then dress like a Mormon after you get with them.

Happy Birthday WiseDiva (Thanks Tazzee for letting us know).

I pretty much always dated within my age range give or take a year or two. The only man “older” that I dated was 13 years older, but I had no idea at the start that he was that much older. I was 25 and I figured him to be about 30-32, but he was 38. I assumed the mature look that he sported to be a result of his personality and fine men’s wear. But other than that it has always been a year or two.

I have been approached by guys that were obviously a lot younger and undeniably very much older. Those I made a personal decision to not entertain. Now my friend Lacy is 38 and is presently dating a 26 year old. She says it’s fun. Hey more power to her. My set of friends that I associate with now, our ages range from 37 up to 45, so we all are with some one very close to our age.

When I was with the older guy it was nice experiencing the maturity that he brought to the relationship. Had he not left such a horrible feeling for men all together in me I probably would have considered dating older again…but he ruined that for me.

Sexione I don’t know bout that. Most 40 year old men I know got a tight azz body. I must admit though I have seen some men who are not in shape but for the most part alot of men are well kept on the physical but the emotional, now that’s another story, for example: I met this nice older man, he was maybe in his mid forties. Conversation started out well but within 3 days I knew he was someone I no longer wanted to see or talk to. Our talks were always about his downfall through life and his financial position. Just talking to him was very draining. His physic was very eye pleasing but his emotional state was a total wreck.

Good Meerning Blogspot.

Recently, I had a encounter with an older man, 41 or 42. I thought he was just an old man, with a young child, didn’t make anything of it. Then I started finding him attractive, his maturity level, how he spoke, the way he carried himself. He’s in shape, fit, likes to eat right, that was really attractive and motivating. I found myself trusting and respecting him enough to ask for his opinion, that’s a big step for me. If the opportunity presents itself I definitely will be dating older men in the future. I probably would not go over 10 years older than myself, depending on who I met.

Yeah, folks will be overweight and out of shape, and by the time they’re pushing 50 they’ll have diabetes, heart problems. It’s a shame, really, to see folks that you know can no longer run, couldn’t go for a hike or ride a mountain bike, get worn out just walking through antique malls or something. Forget about playing any sports. Plus, after not keeping in shape for 30+ years, imagine how insurmountable it would seem to get oneself into decent shape — it ain’t gonna happen!

65% or more of Americans are overweight and/or obese. Bet it’s a lot higher for people 50 and over. Children are more susceptible to a variety of ailments due to their inactivity these days — too much TV and video games, not enough baseball.

Thank God, I’ve always been blessed with good health. Illness or injury could torpedo the whole health and fitness thing, y’know.

ABC There’s alot of people who aren’t over weight who have medical problems. For instance Halle Berry, she has diabetes and she is not over weight. I used to think only over weight people get high cholesterol, well that was proven wrong since I’m not over weight and mine is slightly high. Diabetes is a hereditary disease just like most diseases are.

LadyDark & ABC Both of you are 100% on point with your posts about obesity and major health problems. My ex-SO has diabetes. During the time we were together, he constantly said, “I know what I need to do…I just need to do it.” Okay, when? The time is now. I would get so frustrated with him because diabetes is manageable by eating healthy and EXERCISING! Some people say they do not have the time to exercise…you can incorporate exercise into your daily routine.

My current sweetie has high blood pressure. I have to fight the urge to slap his hand when he adds salt to his food…After he retired from the military, he stopped exercising. A mental thing, since he no longer had to. Well, he knows my goals of staying healthy and fit. I have no desire to be with Professor Klump.

Type 2 diabetes has strong genetic links, but that doesn’t mean you’ll get it no matter what, just increases risk factors of obesity, lots of booze, high fat diet, etc. Type 1 diabetes is much less genetically linked.

Ladylike I’ve always dated older but now I want younger for mnay reasons one of them being spontaneous and on point (if you get what I mean). I’m an active person and I don’t want anyone holding me down or out of breath b/c he can’t keep up. Now don’t get me wrong some older men can do me some justice too with being well seasoned and all compared to a strong young buck who is always eager.

Nipples that 1025 post was right on time. 100% I must admit some of my former coworkers were in their 30’s and 300lbs + and taking viagara, regularly. Still, alot of people are making concious eforts to maintain, and it shows.

Pee Pee sry Lacey. Anyone, male or female dating a child is perv, period. Even talking with a 21 yo chick you see where her head is. She may be fine but the mind is muffed. Plus alot of these younger chicks give up way to much skin to be healthy. JMHO

Lacey There’s alot of people who aren’t over weight who have medical problems. You are right but the point abc is trying to make is that being overweight will most def cause these conditions. Also, alot of women are allowing themselves to become overweight and are not doing anything about bc of all this fat and fabulous talk going around. Self esteem is cool but when you look at yourself and then your children who’s self esteem are you considering. There too many overweight kids due to lazy parents. How are going to say you love yourself if you don’t take care of yourself?

Truth No way will I ever date a man young enough to be my son. LOL that would clearly be a case of robbing the cradle.

I beg to differ though, most people giving up the skins are the older and supposed to be wiser. There’s a lot of baby daddies well in their late 30’s to beyond 50. And stats show that the AIDS rate is rising high in that age bracket also.

I do hate the grand daddies that think they want some and the Similac Kids that think they can hang, but I try not to offend. I just politely let them know that I’m looking for something different. I’ve never dated younger, always dated older men. I like maturity, but I’ve found lately that guys that are older are not necessarily mature. I’ve met some teeny boppers hidden inside of some grown azz bodies!! LOL

For RealTrue, on point and I understand that being over weight may cause some health issues. Most of the health issues we are experiencing comes from the food we eat also. Antibiotics, growth hormones and only God knows what else they are putting into food these days and vegetables too cuz there are some over weight vegetarian out there also. Children are suffering from HB pressure and high cholestrol too. Many young people are suffering aliments that older adults used to suffer. I say it’s the food we eat. Like seafood. I refuse to eat salmon from China, Chile or anywhere else except here. Farm raised catfish that’s a no no. It’s been so long since I had catfish I forgot how it taste. Our food is not being carefully monitored and as a result we the consumers are suffering at an alarming rate.

Lady J & Mocha Actually, one weekend I came home from Ga Southern there was a new car sitting in the driveway. I was so excited since it was a total surprise. My excitement quickly dissipated when I looked inside and saw it was a 5-speed. My stepdad told me to hop in and I learned how to drive a stick that same weekend. The hardest part is getting out of 1st and of course being on a hill. Once you get a feel of the car and have the listening part down, you’re good to go. Next thing you know, you’ll be setting up drag races in the back of the Wal-mart parking lot. Vrooomm vrooomm!

Lacey I feel you on the food thing but the human body is an amazing creation. If we would make our children exercise or go out and play like our parents did us then we wouldn’t see soooo many overweight kids. Parents have made these kids too soft. I read a story I believe in Philly that said summer school was cancelled bc it was too hot in the build. Back in the day they would have opened the windows and turn lights off and kept going.

As most know I am 23, I’m a LEO so my birthday is coming up in Aug. Anyhow; I have always dated older men. I prefer men my age and above. The oldest person I have been in a relationship with was 9yrs older then me. I presume I date older men b/c I’m not on the same wavelength as some of my peers. I have a lot of friends who are a few yrs. older then me as well. I could possibly pass for an 18-20 yr old. Most people say I look very young, they card me for everything! It’s so annoying! Although, I look young most of the men who approach me are much older then me. I remember this one guy was trying to talk to me; he was like you look like you are 16 yrs of age. I was like if I look like I am 16, WHY are you talking to me! My brother was with me at the time, got rid of him. But the max for me is 10yrs older, cause I don’t want to be dating my dad in stuff…you know…my parents are young! Almost 40…

Japan and other countries are showing cracks in the wall too as they become more westernized. Smoking, drinking, Playstation. What a combo.

Mocha and LJ I learned to drive a stick after buying one in Savannah and driving to Ft. Stewart, a 45 min ride. I wouldn’t recommend that to my ex wife. I was a rolling road hazard. People were honking and shooting the bird at me because the car was rolling everywhere. Looking back it is hilarious but those folks did not appreciate my youthful vigor. LOL Start in a parking lot.

What up Blog Said while just chillin.

When I was younger, I wanted the older, more mature, had it together woman. So I have dated a few women older than me. My earliest was when I was a freshman in college, and an older woman (28) at church saw me out one night and said that I wasn’t a little boy anymore, (That was a good night) fast forward to one Sunday at church when my mother told her rather loudly to leave me alone and let me go out with young ladies, and she emphasized the word young.

But as I have gotten older, and more mature, and gotten my self together, I am more attracted to younger, more vibrant, and still want to be in love without the luggage of past heartbreaks. Just my thoughts.

On topic: My general age range is 33-40. Yep, it’s narrow, but I think there’s a maturity level that seems unique to that age range. Younger than 33 is still too close to the 20s for me, and I think something happens once you pass 40. It’s a different level of maturity that I don’t think I’ve reached yet. So, I think I’d get frustrated with a man over 40. Dunno for sure, b/c 40 is as old as I’ve dated. But, I don’t think I’m quite ready to go older yet.

Well I am going at it real good when I hear the part of movie when the Champ is studderring calling Po-Po a ppppunk mmmmother fffffu. I couldn’t stop laughing. I had to stop. She was mad as hellz which made it even more funny.

Truth Thanks hun for passing that law. Now I can let the real freak…Oops,I meant comfort come out. lol I see you might have a program for losing weight but do you offer anything in the realm of just toning up?

Sean J Well me being able to see things from more than just one perspective is a blessing and a curse. In life I often can narrow things down to at least two things but find it hard to make a dayum decision. I almost end up going one way, only to bust a Uey and try the other thing too. Slim is crazy like that. And about being silly versus funny, I guess i’m a little bit of both.

Anyone interested in going to Play Date this Saturday? I receive their email notices and they now have a SINGLE MAN EXCHANGE PROGRAM!!! LOL! Lawd have mercy! They want the single women to invite their high-quality single male friends. Apparently, the best single women in Atlanta will be there. SJ3000 As a regular attendee of Falcons games, I won’t take offense to your question. But if I were to take a stab at an answer, it would be because folks mainly go to Hawks games to be seen, not to actually watch a game. Personally, I wear jerseys to the Falcons games. But when I got to a basketball I dress a little jazzier and put on a little rouge.

By the time I make it into the GA Dome, I’ve loaded and unloaded the truck for tailgating. Assisted the grill master and been out in the elements for at least 4 hours. I usually smell like smoke (grill smoke, not cigarette smoke) too. But before we leave the tailgate site, I try to throw on a little rouge, LOL.
