The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
To continue yesterday’s conversation, to some extent… We were talking about changing your partner, and the conversation moved on to the idea of changing someone’s physical appearance because they wear too-tight jeans or need to lose weight, etc. So I’d like to flip that around a little bit. Certainly I understand wanting to have a partner who takes care of himself or herself physically — but can you go too far?
In this day and age, people do a lot of things to enhance their appearances, especially before going out on dates. Women put on makeup that camouflages undereye circles, covers up flawed skin or makes their lips look fuller. They blow curly hair straight or dye it a different color. They slither into underwear that holds their tummy, thighs and butt in or bras that push their chest way up and out.
As for the guys…they put lifts in their shoes, squeeze into tight clothes to make their muscles look good, cover up gray in their hair or wear colored contacts, among other things.
So my question is, do you ever feel let-down when you discover what’s underneath all these efforts? Have you ever seen a girl without makeup for the first time and been like “Hmm, that’s disappointing”? Do you try to avoid someone who loads on the beauty products, wondering what they’re trying to compensate for? How do you react when someone’s body looks awfully different without clothes than what you were expecting?
And there’s the even more extreme example of modifying your appearance: plastic surgery. Have you ever dated someone who had cosmetic surgery? Did it bother you to know that they weren’t all-natural, or did you just appreciate their current appearance for what it was?

This is like the Wizard of Oz situation. Do we really want the curtain to go up and see the reality behind the fantasy? I’ve never dated glamour girls because high maintence women bother me. I love the all natural look. You know you have a sexy woman when you wake up together and she still looks fantastic without any makeup on. Who looks great when you’ve got morning breath and you’re picking the matter out of your eyes. On the subject of work being done… who knows. I doubt any of the girls I ever dated had any, but I would not doubt it based on where I went to school. If they did, then I prefer to keep the curtain down and not taint my memories…

Morning Everyone:
I have not dated anyone that has had cosmetic surgery - at least none that I can think of - now that I think of it Mandingo may have had a little work done in the netherparts. LOL. j/k
For me as much as I would love to take the easy route to that 6-pack and Madonna’s “Sex” coffee table book thighs - I know there are side effects to these procedures that with my luck I would encounter. Plus, what’s the fun in looking back at where you came from if you are only looking at yesterday’s pre-surgery picture….
My nieces have accused me of having nose surgery. LOL. I just tell them my face grew into my nose —- hahahahahahaha. I was very, very, very skinny as a child to the point where every doctor visit they were checking to make sure I was not a malnourished - which was so not the case being the eating machine that I was and still am (gosh, I miss the high metabolism of my youth)- but because of this all you saw face wise were my eyes (those of you in the know understand why) and my nose (which is more cutesy-button-like in it’s present stage). My nose looked too big for my slender face so it was very pronounced - so when my nieces and nephews (read cousin’s children as I am an only child) look at my older pictures they say “Aunt Divine - are you sure you didn’t have a nose job” - I just tell them “Yes, they did a great job - didn’t they” LOL. Hahahahhahahahahaha. Their parents just laugh and tell them the truth.

Morning folks! Hmmmm… I think my little rant yesterday pretty much sums up my views on this topic. Women are notorious wearing camouflage. There’s not much we men can do without looking like an idiot to hide our flaws. It’s pretty much ‘what you see is what you get’ with us. Too tight shirts? Come on now… Covering up gray hair doesn’t make a man look any better or any worse; just different because we men look good with gray hair. Colored contacts? The only men I see with those are in Piedmont Park in little tight booty shorts. I’ve never even heard of lifts in the shoes…
Personally, I’m trying to nip that camouflage stuff in the bud (due to my last g/f’s transformation per yesterday’s comments). My #1 prospect is beautiful… she barely wears make-up, she’s hates weave, and she works out 6 times a week so her body is darn near flawless. So I really see what she’s working with every time I see her; no surprises here. H3ll, I can’t wait to take her out to a ritzy function so I can see her all glamed up!!!
Oh yeah… I not a fan of plastic surgery at all. If they had it before they met me; there’s nothing I can do about it. I just don’t want anyone to have it done while they are with me. Doesn’t sit well with db.

Fake breasts are terrible. They may look ok from a distance, but they feel like those kick balls they have in those huge baskets at the toy store. Speaking for myself, I have never been disappointed by someone’s breast size. Usually, I am simply grateful . In my experience, I have often found someone to be more attractive because of their imperfections. Honestly, up close, it is sometimes obvious that someone has had work done and, to me, that begs the question “why did you spend money on that sort of fakery when you could have taken a trip to Europe or something?” Wearing a flattering outfit is one thing but putting in a pair of colored contacts betrays a superficiality that includes the personality, too. If a person stays fit, eats well and is friendly, that’s enough to be attractive in my book.

Sup db, yeah I felt your pain yesterday bruh…lol. As far as the weave, fake nails, and make up goes, I’m cool with it as long as you are rockin it right. Too much caked on make up is a no-no and there is nothing better than natural beauty! I don’t know any dudes either who wear tight shorts or clothes at all.
Sounds like you might need to go ahead and make that prospect a contract offer, she just might become a franchise player. Unless you scurred!….LMAO.

Good Morning Everybody, Happy Friday
I am so glad it’s Friday.
No, I have never dated anyone who has had plastic surgery, neither have I had any enhancements myself. I truly have no problem with dating a man who had this desire but it would depend on the extremes of the surgery and reasoning. Sometimes you just have love what you have.

I find it interesting that almost no one wants to weigh in on this subject. I would think this would stir a huge debate regarding self-esteem, the current club dating model to superficially judge another in seconds based on exteriors, and the growing number of men who are opting to partake of the nip/tuck specialist when it used to be the exclusive domain of women.
Ok, I’ll start. Love is blind. Make that real love is blind.
I was VERY thin and in great shape when my husband and I first met. I had been in the theater in NY for a long time, and in the entertainment world, taking care of your body and health is part of the daily job. He originally said that my being in great shape was one of the things that attracted him, but as the years have passed, I’ve gained weight and now in my mid-fifties, am almost 50 pounds heavier than when we met. He originally maintained that he preferred very thin women and I asked him recently why the heavier me didn’t seem to bother him. His answer: (1) he loves me and would whether I was 90 lbs. or 190 lbs. (with the caviat that he hopes I don’t go to 190), (2) I am almost 56 and he doesn’t expect me to look like a 20 year old, and (3) that if he gets on me about my weight, it would give me license to get on him about his. Reminded me of why I married him.
Regarding opting for plastic surgery, he told me when we were dating that he once had a relationship with a young woman who, he discovered, had gotten breast implants. I asked what he thought and his answer was surprising. That she had them confirmed to him that she wasn’t his type. He originally thought she had a rather perfect body until the first time the became intimate. It wasn’t that her breasts were hard or cold, but that he feared she was the type to be more interested in what he was (type of job, bank account, car, house, etc.) rather than who he was, and her implants just confirmed his feeling that she wasn’t the one for him.
That said, one of my relatives with perfectly beautiful breasts in her youth got implants in her 40s to bring life back to her figure after they seriously deflated from having two children. Both she and her husband were thrilled.

Now that I think about it, it really isn’t much a man can do to make chanes or enhancements. But then again like I said yesterday the enhancement makers gear their products towards women based on what a majority of men like or want. I myself would not and have not changed my appearance for the love, like , lust, whatever of a man. If we hook up, we hook up because he wants MissU inside and out. Plus I’m fabulicious,so it’s hard to resist anyway. Wish a man would come at me talking bout he wants longer hair, bigger ta tas, etc, I’d be like I suggest you start looking and while you’re at it see if you can pick up a different dang dang. lol

Happy Friday from a lurkette.
I find the fascination with Botox especially amusing. People paying to have what is actually botulism injected into their face? No thanks. I can almost guarantee that in a few years they’ll find out it eventually eats your face.
My husband’s best friend dated a girl who usually took THREE HOURS to get ready before they went out. Yep, you read that right. Her eyebrows were creepily perfect. She was always making them late. I’m not sure he ever saw her without makeup. Regardless, they’re no longer together.

@runnin: The contract is in negotiations as we speak. I gotta see how she performs in Spring Training before I make an official offer. So far she’s leading the team in HRs, RBI’s, and Slugging %. Although she’s doing outstanding right now; I have to see if she is not just on a hot streak right now. I have to make sure her performance is consistant and not a fluke. I’ll keep you posted and let you know if I pull the trigger!

Hey SNM - Things are fabulous. I’m still in Sunny Florida and enjoying my days of relaxation before heading back to work.
I’m about to hi-jack the convo before Mr. 2 does….
Have you ever tested yourself with that one person you knew you could not resist to make sure you are ready for that new relationship? Well this is my dilemma….
I should have left Florida on Wednesday to avoid this disaster….
Okay - so here it is — was “in love” (can’t think of a better way to describe it) with this guy from age 13-26 (yes, even during my 1st marriage). I think I have mentioned him before in the archives (pre-Laney) - anyhoo, well I was encouraged by my aunt & uncle to contact his mother before I left the state —— UHHHHH—- guess who is in town visiting his mother? Guess who wants to come see the kids and I before I leave? I told him that I would have to think about it - ‘cause truthfully I am not sure where my heart is when it comes to him. I can’t truly say that I love him - but I know in the past his sister has referred to us as “the most together-not together couple she has ever met”. Thing is I know where my heart is with my sweetie - but I have not tested it against this. I knew I should have left on Wednesday. Dang, should have followed my first mind.

Why as humans are we so shallow in our thinking???
I would rather see a woman that I might have a potential long term relationship “natural” than false any day!
I want to see the “bare guts” before I buy! I have always prefered women, who wear minimum makeup and are not excessive in their presentation over those who tend to go over the top.
Perfect example…JaQuitta Williams, reporter for channel 2 news wear waaaaay too much makeup
http://www.wsbtv.com/station/3805583/detail.html
This chick is hidin something! I would be suspicious of any woman that wears too much makeup. I think we as a society put too much emphasis on looks and not enough on brains, integrity, substance and most of all good character!

For yo sake I hope the Birds don’t run up the score too bad when they whip the Yucs this season. That is if the Yucs don’t get scared and forfeit both games.

@divine-Communication and understanding is everything. If sweetie is a reasonable man (which I’m sure he is if you’re dealing with him)I personally think it’s best to be open and discuss even if you decide not to see ex-crush. I know some people wouldn’t even broach such a subject with a BF cause they wouldn’t know how they’d react. All the more reason to talk I think. I like to know where eyecandy stands on things and I’ll consider his thoughts & feelings even though it’s up to me to ultimately decide.

2Can - yall ain’t got nothing on us. Our D was just horrible last year. U forgot that we broke yall’s so called “Hex” on us the year before when we whipped yall.
Our offense did the job in both games against yall last year, Vick threw all over Tampa’s supposedly great D. Our D just couldn’t stop anybody last year. This time around things will be different. Got a revamped D, fixing the O line and it all equals trouble for yo Yucs.
Chucky’s really gon be looking p** on the sidelines when yall play us this year.

@ATLborn The birds made some good moves to shore up the D but I wish they would have at least looked at dealing Schaub and someone else or a pick for Eric Moulds. They still need a big time receiver who demands the ball. It looked like teams figured out how to stop their offense towards the end of the season, especially the bootleg. I’m just worried about the O now. I’m a Dolphins fan all day but I follow and support the derty birds.

I don’t usually respond to these topics, I just read, laugh, and learn. But, this topic has touched a nerve with me. I have been complaining for years about the fact that now you not only have to worry about fake personalities, but now you have to worry about fake bodies (i.e. breasts augments, fake hair, butt implants, etc.)
I like suprises as much as the next guy, but when I unwrap a package I want to be suprise in a good way, and not in a bad way.
I wish people would just learn to be happy with themselves they way they naturally are, and not try to be something different.
I’m done…

Runnin - I feel ya on that. I would love for us to have Moulds. He was the real WR threat for the Bills when Useless Price was there. We still have a good amount of moves we need to make though. We need at least one more interior O lineman, a WR like Moulds would definitely help but I must say R. White is coming along nicely, we need a big body D tackle and a good cover corner opposite D.Hall.
I think we should trade Schaub also if someone gives us good value for him.
Musing - Yeah at times Schaub did look better than Vick in the offense, that time was mainly in the pre-season and a few spots in the regular. But at times he looked far worse than anyone I’ve ever seen in that offense.
Remember when he effed up near our goal line and gave the opposing team a TD and when he goofed in Seattle.
Don’t buy into the Schaub hype. Doug Johnson got all the hype before him and we see how he panned out when given the chance.

Everybody improved in the NFC South everybody but the yucs so yes 2 it will be hard for the pewter punks this year..and i got whatever on it homie…i am none of dem fools you think is scared to gamble…two things i learned a scared man is afraid to gamble and leave his wife home alone…i am neither…bring it dawg!!!!!!

You guys are certainly in the minority with the wants.lol That’s all us natural gals want. A man to want us for who we are, inside and out. Some of us are blessed enough to have just that. And some of us run into dudes that say one thing and act a totally different way. I.E, “I will get her and mold her into the woman I want. She’ll be my project, my trophy, and she’ll never find out”. What I wanna know is since when has a woman not known what a man was up to, and how yall figure you out think a woman anyway? I agree ATL I really like R.Whites potential…I am also a fan of Finneran, simply because of his consistancy..He’s not going to outrun anyone, but you always know if he’s open he will catch the ball. We have to address the O-line..Every year we bring in other positions, but Vick won’t stay healthy if he’s not protected.

If I were young and dating with the intent to find a mate settle down and have a family, the whole plastic surgery thing would be of great concern to me, being older it does not matter as I do not intend to have any more children and so if the person has had plastic surgery so what! I know of a couple who have both had nose surgery so when you meet them you think nothing of it till you meet the kid! And you wonder where he got his nose from… then you see pictures of the parents as kids and you say OK so the kid will be having surgery on his 16th birthday too!! For some reason it seems when you have a less than desirable feature it is that feature that features prominantly in your offspring, so yeah I would be cautious about dating a young person who has “had” to have corrective plastic surgery.

OK I got something since we are talking about physical beauty, etc.
Ok, this girl I know met a dude online and they hit it off over the phone, so they decide to meet. They decide dude would go to her place to visit her so he went all the way from St. Louis to Phoenix to meet her. Well, when she went to pick him up from the airport he got off the plane and low and behold, dude was physically disabled*! She said that he had some kind of condition where he has to literally pick up his feet to walk because his toes don’t bend!! Anyway, at the end of the visit, dude asked her “so, do we have a love connection?” and she was like “no, because you didn’t tell me you were disabled”. So, my question is….should people disclose their physical disabilities, no matter what when they decide to pursue a relationship with the other person?? And, do you feel like that is a question you have to ask someone prior to going out on a date with them???

2Can & Musing - I didn’t know anything about that, could be. Yall right though, a lotta folks ain’t ready to hear stuff like that. It shatters too many of their traditional beliefs.
I have caused many uprisings when I mentioned to ppl the “Holy Square”, noting that the Bible often refers to Lucifer/Satan as a son of God and that he was 2nd in command in heaven before the uprising. Folks want to believe only Jesus held that position. They really get their girdles in a bunch if you infer that Jesus may have only been a mortal.

MissU because religion calls for ppl to have blind faith. One that follows something blindly will obey w/out question. They will give you their possessions, body, family, everything and will think it’s a sin to inquire why.
C’mon now, have u ever thought how ridiculous the passage in the bible is that tells one to obey their slavemaster? Yet in another passage it talks of how others revolted against the injustice of enslavement. So some folks should be dumb and happy with slavery but the “chosen ones” should not tolerate it. Sounds like social conditioning to accept classism to me.

So, my question is….should people disclose their physical disabilities, no matter what when they decide to pursue a relationship with the other person?
yes, they should, at least as one of that level. I have heard the argument “well, it really shouldn’ matter” so then I have to ask “Well, why did you not mention it if it is indeed so trivial????”
Personally, I may or may not have a ‘problem’ with it, depends on the individual and of course the exact disablity. But to not be upfront about it, indicates the person is deceitful and that is never good.

ATL…..Lucifer was a very high ranking angel..not sure about his position, but he was up there with michael, gabriel, and the others…..in fact…folks think that angels were meant to only serve; they do now! but initially they had “free-will” just like man; they gave it up to align themselves with the most high - however, lucifer and his angels felt they should not have to bow down to a created being, man, and they thus rebelled…….ever wonder how satan even got into the garden of eden, if that was meant to be man’s paradise??? how could an evil being even get through the gates?????? never thought to ask that?

ATL yeah I feel you, but I could also see dude’s perspective. I mean, how many females would talk to a dude if he said that?! I don’t know. But, you made a good point about people disclosing stuff like that, but people in reality DON’T. I mean, it’s common knowledge that African-Americans are more likely to have conditions such as Sickle Cell or Heart Disease….so if someone has a fam history of Heart Disease or Diabetes, is that something they are gonna say on the first date? Probably not. But, the girl could get knocked up, and then what? She has a high risk of having Gestational Diabetes, which could be life-threating for the baby and the mother…so now what??

Atl & 2cptg Man, I am the first to believe in GOD…But, sometimes you have to read between the lines and think outside of the box to decipher the true meaning. Eve spent alot of time with that “snake,” It wasn’t really a “snake” that opened her eyes to her nakedness. It’s what that “snake” taught her to do with her nakedness. Royal Chic - I think with what science has discovered, that is now to be considered a symbolic story, not the literal truth it was believed to be for so many years.
I have heard that from Jewish rabbis AND even an extreme Fundamentalist I work with has said something about the humans around BEFORE Adam and Eve.
so as science progresses, religious thought it adjusted to accomodate the science. science being a little more undisputable. of course SCIENCE needs to be adjusted from time to time as well, the Earth is Flat a good example. The Sun revolving around us another. Not a physicist(sp?) but think some of Einstein’s stuff has been disproven, but it worked for the immediate application need.

2Can - Yeah Satan was a high ranking Arch Angel but he was on a higher level than that of the entrusted four of Michael, Gabriel, Urial and Rapheal.
Remember, he was the choir director (had all musical abilities in him) and “Lord of the skies”. He sat at the right hand of the throne of heaven as the “Prince”. Even after he led the uprising, God so loved him he gave him his own kingdom…Hell.
The more u dig up on this, you find that he was given the Earth until God’s return, which would lead some to argue that Earth is Hell. Then when God shall return it will be Paradise, as it is written.

Das - There prolly is truth to that. Remember there is a big distinction in the Old Testament where great lengths were taken to talk of Man in God’s image and his ppl. The book did mention ppl that were not considered “his” ppl.
Also, even if that is not so, you would have to look at the time component also. The book talks of God creating earth in 6 days then it speaks of how at 1000 years to man is like a day in the eyes of God. So that doesn’t even quantify a 1000 years being an exact day but gives credence to the thought that at the very least a 1000 years could be a day to God.
So that could mean at the very least the earth was built in 6000 years or longer.
The 1000 years could be a minute to him.

alot of confusion in the break down fellas, for one the devil wasn’t given anything and he definitely wasn’t given the Earth or Hell for that matter - the Devil will no more reign in Hell than anyone else - there has been way too much speculation and allegory that was taken from Genesis and stated as doctrine. Be careful in your break downs and what you read and accept as “truthful” because though many question very few find the truth. Most don’t even know truly what Hell is

ITer takes the printed pages to her manager, he looks at them and says “Yes, that’s her”.

I had a co-worker who went to the sites after hours. Got us sraight restricted from everything. The only pages that filter correctly are those associated with the company. She was the main one sitting around talking about she hated sex and she hated sex with her husband, but she was the biggest freak in the office. She’s been gone for two years now and we still can’t have full access. Ain’t that a biach?! The only reason she’s not there now is because she got her azz on her shoulders, turned in a resignation and then decided she wanted to take it back. If my boss hadn’t been so tired of her shidd he prolly would have let her take it back.

Jazzy, that’s true. I can read it but not speak it. I used to speak it very well when I had a friend to talk to, but it’s been years. I still love French films w/ or w/o subtitles.

@Royal Chic - first to understand what Hell is you first must understand the fullness of God’s Righteous judgement - The Word uses symbolism in order to give perspective and scale for us as humans to put a “face” if you will to what you are dealing with. Much in the same way Jesus taught with Parables it is done so that the message if received will hit you where you live. God in his Righteousness is an all consuming fire there is no thing (whether flesh or any creation of man) that can stand in His righteousness - Hell is the fullness of His Judgement which is a direct reflection of His righteous character. In as much as Heaven is the fullness of His love - Hell is the fullness of His Wrath and that is the promise for those who reject His Son and the promise is fulfilled not in that God hates the sinner for that is not the case the promise is fulfilled in our denial of love toward Him. Many believe that Heaven is a promise to those who God loves and that is not the case for God desires to see none perish - however Heaven is the promise for those who Love God. God loves just because he created you he doesn’t need anything more than that to love but His desire is for His love to be received by the creation. Sorry for running on but I’m a minister and I got to try to give some understanding
