My Life’s Soundtrack

I was a huge fan of the television show Ally McBeal. I always enjoyed seeing the character’s inner thoughts play out in some outrageous way. I remember an episode when Ally was seeing a therapist who told her she needed to have a soundtrack to her life. When I think back on different times in my life, there is always a song that can capture the essence of a particular moment or random occurrence.

Opening song: Never Give Up by Yolanda Adams

Waking up: You Gotta Be by Des’ree

Saddened by world events: Calling All Angels by Train

Driving in Atlanta Traffic: I Believe I Can Fly (yea right)

In need of strength: No Weapon by Fred Hammond & Radical for Christ

Quarter life crisis: No Such Thing by John Mayer

Partying with my girls: Girls Just Wanna Have Fun by Cyndi Lauper

Feeling sexy: American Woman by Lenny Kravitz

Me Time: No Strings (I’m Fancy Free) by Ella Fitzgerald

Flirting: Knocks Me Off My Feet by Stevie Wonder

Affectionate mood: She Will Be Loved by Maroon 5

First kiss: Sweetest Thing by Lauryn Hill

Falling in love: Love Immortal by Evanescence

Staying in love: As by Stevie Wonder

Seeing an old love: Someday We’ll Know by New Radicals

Heartbreak: Trouble by Coldplay

On a man diet: Maneater by Hall & Oates

Missing someone: Officially Missing You by Tamia

Tired of dating: Games People Play by The Spinners

Vacation/Get-Away: Soak Up The Sun by Sheryl Crow

Reflective mood: Place In This World by Michael W. Smoth

Depressed moments: Symptom Unknown by Maxwell (actually, anything by Maxwell soothes me)

Closing song: Ants Marching by Dave Matthews Band

I really could go on and on but I will stop here.

Do you have a soundtrack to your life? You don’t have to list as many as I have, but do you have special songs that perfectly capture different moments of your life?

Have you ever been touched or moved by a song or certain lyrics? If so, what are they and why did you think it made such an impact on you?

All lurkers and silent readers are encouraged to join in!

Friday Night - Party Time - TG Sheppard, Elegantly Wasted - INXS, Red House - Jimi Hendrix, Alcohol - Brad Paisley

Writing Alimony Check Time - I Am Trying To Break Your Heart - Wilco

Porch time - Sundown - Gordon LIghtfoot

Anytime Dumbya is on TV - I Want To Be Anarchy - Sex Pistols, Election Day - Lyle Lovett

Kids misbehaving - Beat On The Brat - The Ramones

October Weather - Mr. Blue Sky - ELO

Seeing PB nekkid - Let’s Get It Started - Black Eyed Peas, Let’s Get It On- Marvin Gaye

I always remember the opening to the old sitcom “Soap” where they talked about the rich lady when they said the only thing she would add to life was to have it set to music. And along those lines, I have recently been attuned to an artist named Mary Gauthier who is outstanding. Kind of like Bob Dylan with two X chromosomes, really a talented lady. I hope you all have a great day! See some of you tonight.

Good morning fam!! Wow Diva, I like this entry. I’ve been away training, I have had to train so many people lately that they need to make a new positon in the company just for that. lol

I don’t have a soundtrack but if I did, it would be something like this:

Being in love- Unbreakable- Alicia Keys

Being angry- These boots- Nancy Sinatra

Being Lonely- Just a prayer away- Yolanda Adams

Being Happy- Celebrate- Kool and the Gang

I’m sure as the day goes on I can think of some others. Since I am still training it is questionable if I will get to share. lol Gotta love the job that pays the rent. lol Have a wonderful and safe day guys.

Good Morning ALL,

Always loved that Ally McBeal show, was disappointed it got cancelled.

Never have made up my top-10 song list, have to hear it to think it would be on the list.

Recently got 4-gig of music formatted for an iPod, which I do not have. The first song I listened to when I loaded to my PC was Hendrix’s Up From The Skies (“I want to hear and see Everything, I want to see and hear Everything”), after that RedHouse my fave Hendrix.

but Led Zeppelin’s Ramble On would have to be on the list, love the Golum reference.

I have referred to Desperate Housewives as “the best TV since Soap”. Now that goes WAY back.

Sorry I will not make tonight, normally may have been able to leave a 1/2 day early, but with the recent work demands, NO WAY will that be happening. Have a good time, all.

I was just swapping stories with some of my friends here at work about people we used to work with. I had one that I challenge y’all to come up with a song for..he always answered the door naked because it scared off the Jehovah’s Witnesses (I am deadly serious…I had him answer the door on me a few times). What music would you set that to?

Blah…. I feel sick, but “How High The Moon” by Ella Fitzgerald always makes me feel better… as a matter of fact any song she sings makes me feel better. My soundtrack would have a lot of Ella with a sprinkle of John Mayer… enhanced by some Fiona Apple…. followed by some EWF…. I’d also throw in some Switch.

While I do not normally listen to NPR at home, Thursday night is a no-TV eve for me, and I was hearing an interview with the actor Adam Goldberg on their FreshAir. They were discussing music in film, and apparently the movie Saturday Night Fever was the beginning of companies realizing that they could sell million/s SOUNDTRACKS from films.

Anyway, they were discussing several scenes where the RIGHT music played at the RIGHT time. Noticeably absent in mentioning, however, was the playing of Express Yourself during the Mr and Mrs Smith household shoot-out scene. LOL

I had to look up the name just now(Goldberg, has been in tons of stuff) since I missed WHO was talking. Just knew it was some actor who was involved in music selection for films he was in. Very articulate individual, at any rate.
