Time to take a breather, Rev. Wright

Is this Reverend Jeremiah Wright on a roll or what?

He’s headed into retirement in a big way and he’s loving all this “in the spotlight” stuff. When you get older you can get away with “off the cuff” remarks but I’m thinking, and I’m sure Barack Obama would agree, his timing is bad.

Hillary must be loving it. I’m sure Barack’s security guys are out there right now collecting her trash looking for canceled checks to Wright.

Wright blasted FOX News and Sean Hannity saying, “His stupid fantasy will keep him forever stuck on stupid when it comes to comprehending how you can love a brother who does not believe what you believe.”

Wright’s comments on Hannity’s inability to love a brother who does not believe what you believe came at some point after he accused the U.S. Government of planting AIDS in the black communities—now that’s a different kind of love I guess. Besides, Hannity’s conspiracy theories are all related to hair products.

Wright called Thomas Jefferson a pedophile. (Jefferson’s attorneys had no comment at the time) and later, as if the reverend didn’t expect criticism of his comments, postured his response to say : ”The most recent attack on the black church, it is not an attack on Jeremiah Wright, it is an attack on the black church.”

Okay, look, I like offbeat characters. They’re one of the spices of life and I’ve seen a lot and dislike very few but I would guess the reverend is getting on our collective nerves a bit. Everyone has a theory about everything. I, for instance, believe that the early Pilgrims invented Armor All but I don’t think of it as a conspiracy.

It just made those buckle-shoes shine. The designated hitter rule? Yes. A conspiracy, but in comparison I don’t believe it had anything to do with pedophilia. See how simple life can be?

Most of us know how the cycle goes. All of the press is looking for the next Rev.Wright sound bite. “What will that kooky funster say now?” Those press people must be saying. Barack Obama used great patience in his first round of responses to Wright’s earlier comments by saying “I understand that he might not agree with me on my assessment of his comments. He is obviously free to express his opinion.

I’ve expressed mine very clearly. I think what he said on several instances was objectionable and I understand why the American people took offense.” Somehow I think Sen. Obama was hoping this polite response would be such that the reverend would read between the lines and take the advice that I think many people are now ready to give which is “Please Sir, it’s been interesting but it’s time to shut the (*&$%) up.

While Wright does go overboard, he is correct about the factual statements he had made. The United States is the largest and most powerful terrorist ‘state’ in the world. Right now we are responsible for the complete annihilation of Iraq and its people. We are murdering women and children every single day, not to mention we are killing our own boys.

And while Wright is wrong about AIDS, he was really making the statement that the Federal Government has been involved in gross experiments involving blacks. The historical facts concerning syphilis testing cannot be ignored.

There is also historical evidence that the CIA was indeed allowing/assisting the dumping of crack cocaine into the inner cities, especially Los Angeles. There is no denying this episode in American injustice.

And Wright is also correct that our government sold WMD to Saddam Hussein and that we continue to fund the real terrorists all over the world, namely the state of Israel.

What is sad is that the white dominated racist media and political structure has attempted to silence the truth. What this episode really proves is that there is no room for liberal ideas and truth in America.

Who said Americans are outraged by Wright? The media and the politicians? Of course they want to say that, they want Americans to think Wright is Wrong. But really, I and thinking Americans are outraged by our lazy, corporate clowns we call leaders who are the biggest terrorists on earth.

Rev. Wright is to religion what Hulk Hogan is to professional wrestling, a showman, a huckster, and a phoney entertainer, but someone who brings a lot of people to the gate just to see the show. The problem is that too many people and the media have now taken him seriously and have asked Obama to defend or explain a game that never really was.

Matt, my man, almost every American I have spoken to is outraged by some of the crap coming out of the good Reverends mouth. The media isn’t making this up. You have conspiracy on the mind. Even Obama thinks the guy is a jerk. The CIA was assisting in dumping crack into LA? No room for liberal ideas in the country?Come on already.

If the “messenger” doesn’t deliver the message in just the EXACT way we want to hear it…the messenger gets killed. I think Wright’s views are initially based on historical facts but then he twisted them-insanely-which only only reflect his own personal pathos. Wright’s getting killed-but he’s killing himself. Only an idiot would shout in triumph when he tells the “king” (for analogy’s sake the king is Obama)that he’s going down. I’m still an Obama supporter, but I have to admit that he made a huge mistake in not distancing himself from Wright long before he decided to run for office. So…he’s human. Just goes to show that he’s “one of us” afterall. This was due to political naivete. It only proves that he’s NOT business-as- usual on the Hill. Unfortunately, being President of the US IS a political role, though, so I hope he comes out of all this Wright business not as being known as someone who is “wrong” for having known a man but as someone who is stronger and more mature than when he started his campaign.

The REALLY scary thing is that an unfortunately high percentage of the black community actually believes this cr*p. There is a serious lack of logic and critical thinking going on in that community (again, not all of it, just an astonishingly and scarily high percentage of it) … .

I am laughing my big fat white a* off. I first went to a “black church” (didn’t know God saw color since he made us all, but wtf, everything else is about race in America, especially Atlanta, these days, so God must be in on it too), 30 years ago when I was 16. I have been to many since then and the message I’ve heard has not changed. The “worshippers” give me a look that says, “Yeah, whiteboy, (funny how white boy is acceptable but I call a black person blackboy I’m a racist), this may be God’s House, but the parking lot is ours. See you after the service.” The sermon is always about how oppressed blacks are and how whites are evil. It’s 50-50 as to whether America itself is evil.

Matt? You are a complete and utter moron. ou must be a black preacher to be filled with so much hate and racism. I used to feel sorry for folks like you (black AND white) but I don’t anymore. I wish you folks would just stick a gun in your mouths and DIE so the rest of us sane, thinking Americans could live in peace.

DON’T have a nice day, have a hate filled one instead since you will anyways.

In closing, Rev. Wright is saying nothing new, nothing that isn’t preached in Black Churches every Sunday all across this nation. Nothing that isn’t taught daily at Morehouse College. The difference is lol, that you head in the sand ostriches can no longer ignore it although you STILL are trying to explain it away.

Obama Bin-Barak in ‘08 baby for a truly divided country. Hell, I’m voting for him. You should too.

I agree with you, Matt.

Reverend Wright is simply pointing out that in the US, those in power manipulate those with less economic, media and social/corporate power.

I find the fact that out government used human beings as lab rats (for syphilis research)more than disturbing and not an isolated incident.

Remember how Agent Orange problems were denied and the veterans who complained were discredited? What about our Iraq veterans and the conditions they return home to, if they survive?

Reverend Wright isn’t eccentric, he’s now being portrayed this way, as he truthfully said, for political reasons.

I’m a white middle class professional with two children and I find Wright’s depth and understanding of the moral issues our country faces intelligent, honest and courageous.

Sadly, while I don’t think Obama agrees with all the details of Wright’s words, I do think he was inspired by the basic truth of Wright’s message but he’s chosen to abandon his long-time mentor in exchange for public opinion. Obama looked like a man in grief yesterday, hunched over, visibly bereft.

We need more Wrights, more people with the courage to speak the truth.

We need more citizens to speak out and remind us of our moral obligations and how lack of integrity has taken this country off course.

For skeptics, it’s wise to note that moral disintegration is historically what destroys societies.

Wrights comments fall under the category of POLITICAL not biblical. Therefore, he should now be considered a taxpayer since income earned during Bible teachings or church are non taxable by our federal government, and income earned by teaching politics are taxable, he now must pay income taxes like he never has before, do you think he’ll will go back to teaching just the bible when he figures this out?

Mr. Stone, please do your research. Here are some quotes regarding the CIA/Contra connection to cocaine distribution in the United States. I ask you:

Why do you react in defense of a government and government agencies that are poison to your own fellow countrymen and women?

I think it is really amazing that people in this country are so quick to defend their government when it is clearly violating their rights and committing unspeakable acts of violence against us and others in this world. When did the elected (and I use that term very lightly) phony politicians who serve corporate interests become more important than the people?

If you listen to Rev. Wright, he specifically said he was not attacking the American people, he was attacking the elected government and the corrupt agencies. Please wake up Americans and take back your country.

About the CIA/Contra Cocaine Connection and black communities below:

“For the better part of a decade, a San Francisco Bay Area drug ring sold tons of cocaine to the Crips and Bloods street gangs of Los Angeles and funneled millions in drug profits to a Latin American guerrilla army run by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency.” So begins the controversial three part series, published last August, by Gary Webb in the San Jose Mercury News.

From Robert Parry, investigative journalist in an interview in 2004. Well, I received a call Saturday from the Los Angeles Times asking if I could comment about Webb’s death. I went on and explained that the Country owes a huge debt to Gary Webb. What he did was revive a story that some of us at AP and then later Senator John Kerry looked into in the mid-1980s of how the Reagan-Bush Administration had financed the contra war in part by allowing the Contras engage in cocaine trafficking. The evidence even in the mid 1980s was quite strong. Kerry did a fairly good investigation that was published in a report in 1989, but throughout this, the Washington Press Corps, the Washington Times, L.A. Times denigrated the story. The Reagan-Bush stories denied them by and large and that’s where the story was left. Kerry was ridiculed for being a conspiracy theorist for following the leads. It was Gary Webb who revived that investigation in 1996 with his series in the San Jose Mercury News, and again, he was assaulted by these same news elements, the New York Times, the Washington Post, L.A. Times, and what he did was he provoked an internal investigation at justice, at the CIA, and those investigations while they—the press releases tended to be protective of the agencies, the information contained in the long reports was devastating. Essentially, the CIA admitted that it was involved with the Contras, who were actively participating in cocaine trafficking. The CIA Inspector General said more than 50 Contras and Contra units were implicated in the cocaine trade, that the CIA knew about it in real time, that it hid the evidence, that it obstructed justice. All of these things were admitted by the CIA itself, by 1998, in response to Webb’s series. The great tragedy, I suppose, of the personal tragedy and professional, is that despite these admissions, the New York Times, the Washington Post, and the L.A. Times still refused to deal with the facts. It seemed almost like the editors had more of a stake in covering up the truth than the CIA did.

My gut instinct on the timing and continuation of “Rev.” Wright’s somewhat divisive comments is that they are not accidental. I believe that they are intended to incite a backlash against Sen. Obama and cost him the nomination. Think about it, if the United States has advanced far enough on the race issue to elect an african-american as President, then the good Rev’s assertion that this country is a racist nation REALLY have the air let out of them. Hillary didn’t NEED to pay Wright to make these comments, as some posters have suggested…..he’s doing it out of his own self-interest. If Obama should win the White House, Wright loses his “The U.S. of K.K.K.A.” race card.

Matt you’re a joke! The good Rev. didn’t even mention this wild CIA conspiracy you are so quick to believe. Your “evidence” is flimsy at best and doesn’t support your claims. I truly feel sorry for you, and I mean that, if you think so little of out government and people as you seem to. Sure America is far from perfect, but folks like you do nothing to make it better, only sitting back believing the worst, crying about how put upon you are. I love this country, warts and all, and am grateful and proud to call myself an American. My wife, an Asian immigrant, and her family who live with us are so honored to be here and thank God every day that they were able to immigrate and strive for their American dream. They are what makes this country great, not pitiful little crybabies like yourself who have an excuse for all your problems, conspiracy theories for all the perceived lack of progress of “your people” and anger and contempt for the very country that makes it possible for people like myself, who have faltered and failed time and again, to rise up and make something of myself. If this country sucks so bad, why does everyone want to move here? If it sucks so bad why are you still here? You’re a joke! I have no more patients for crybabies like yourself and Cynthia McKinley. To those who read my posts regularly, I’m sorry for my outburst and name calling, but I just couldn’t help myself. I’ll just ignore this jerk from now on.

What is really disturbing situation surrounding Rev. Wright comments is that no one from the media has discussed the context of the whole sermon. More importantly, the media and even Rev Wright himself and Obama have failed to discuss the underlying reasons why certain members of the black community believe, as crazy as it may sound, that the US Government deliberately spread AIDS/HIV in the black community. “A rumors not a rumor that doesn’t die.”

Media types aren’t talking about where these allegations derive. How about discussing why there is so much distrust by the black community against the government. Given the history of our country is it really farfetched for the most degraded group of Americans to think such a thing. I think not. Just look at what the U.S. Government did to the Tuskegee airman. That is an accepted fact of American history. Look at the congressional report address the allegations that US Government was involved in moving tons of cocaine into the US cities during the contra-affair.

American needs to take a long hard look in the mirror and wake up. And journalist, tv anchors, radio talk show hosts, and other media types should be ashamed of themselves for simply discounting Rev. Wrights comments as outlandish instead of investigating whether they have any merit and why members of the black church and black community feel such distrust toward the government. They have completely missed the opportunity to have a open and honest discussion about race relations and instead conjured up a story based on a 30 second clip that is to quick to make someone out to be a racist and anti American black pastor. Give me a break.

What is scary is that some think just because a minority is extremely vocal, they become the majority. I am African American and I have hundred of friends who are African American. I can think of two who saw some validity to what Wright said. Please do not assume that he speaks “for the majority” of the African American community. That is just not true. And to any true Christian, his words are pure rubbish. As a pastor, he should be speaking of the Lord, not of this world. There is little in the speeches I have heard that sermonizes about the Lord. And for my fellow African Americans who disagree, you have that right but I would suggest you visit Trinity or purchase some of his tapes. I have been to Trinity on several occassions (a former Chicagoan, Obama was my Congressman at the time I moved to Atlanta) and I have heard sermons from him that are not unlike the sound bites we all have heard recently.

See, the thing is that the term you use to describe your race (or culture if we broaden it to include every f’ing hyphenated American) is in itself dividing. Why do you have to be some sort of hyphenated American? Is not just being an American good enough? You have to go back how many years to find an ancestor from Africa? If I can be called white, then why is it some sort of slur for you to be called black? Do you get my point yet? I think your heart is right, but you are toting the mail for the racists.

I have a dream……. that one day I may be judged for the content of my character, not the color of my skin…..

Some of the most powerful words uttered by an AMERICAN. i may be naive, but i also have that same dream. The race card has been way over played and people are tired of it. THINKING people that is……..

I have to correct a misquote. I quoted what I THOUGHT were the words of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr, but the actual words he spoke were:

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

He also said something in that same speech that seems to have been ignored:

“But there is something that I must say to my people, who stand on the warm threshold which leads into the palace of justice: In the process of gaining our rightful place, we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred.”

The bitterness and hatred is alive today as evidenced in comments on this blog. Expressed by folks who probably weren’t even alive when King made his speech.

You’re the idiot, I was joking. Uberdelegate Cynthia McKinney came out for Obama today, just in case you thought it couldn’t get any worse for the campaign.

I am so reluctant to tell you that one of the Rorsach Tests for the clinical definition of moron is not getting that joke. You, sir, are a total and complete, self actualized, professionally honed, mitochondrially mutated and supreme moron.

Dont post here again. Just dont. There’s no comeback. there’s no vice versas, and no changies. You’re a moron, and now everyone knows it. Duh, cynthia mcKinney isn’t a superdelegate, duhhh.

RETARD!!!

Hans apology, grow up! Nothing is more irritating and juvenile than someone claiming to have made a joke that isn’t clever, isn’t funny and that no one “gets” and then calling the people who don’t get it morons or retards. You’re the joke.

Fred,

My mother was born in Uganda. My dad on the southside of Chicago. I was born in Cairo, Egypt. So yes, I am indeed African American. I am citizen of both Egypt and the United States of America hence the moniker African American fits me just fine. Maybe it is time for you to remove the chip placed strategically on your shoulder.

There is no chip placed strategically on my shoulder. I was born in f’ing JAPAN, yet I am not an “Asian American” I am simply an AMERICAN. Apparently YOU are not. I would suggest that you go back to the Country of your birth if you think you would be better off there and leave us AMERICANS the hell alone. We have no time to be a Country divided. Since you obviously feel an allegiance to another place, why don’t you do you and I a personal favor and get the hell back to where you think you belong. Delta is ready whenever the hell you are and it seems as though you are way past ready. I’ll help with the airfare Miss Egyptian.

Oh and by the way? If you are not an naturalized citizen from another Country, which by your own admission you AREN’T, then you aren’t a hyphenated anything unless you CHOSE to use the dividing moniker.

About the funniest think I ever saw with this “african american” crap was when a script reader on the news was taking about South Africa. She had no problem identifying the WHITE African as a……. well white African. However when she had to identify the BLACK African she stuttered a second and then called him an “African- American-African. Huh? What the hell? The man wasn’t an American in ANY way, so how the hell could he be an “African-American-African?” You still don’t see the point I’m sure so here’s your sign.

Speaking of racists and racism, I wonder what those two hairy backed, knuckle dragging as….. butt holes are ragging Rick Badie about on HIS blog. He could say “It’s a great day” and those two idiots could find a way to call him a racist. I need to go look.

Yeah he is getting on my nerves. His timing IS wrong. He needs to let Obama get into office before he openly speaks the truth!
