Crime & punishment

The complainant said that while he and his wife were away from their home in the 700 block of Mt. Paran Road, someone stole their Siberian husky. The victim found the dog’s leash and it had been cleanly cut. There are no suspects. The dog’s name is “Lily.”

The victim said that someone took $400 cash from her purse, in her cubical, while she attended a meeting at Compu-Credit, where she works. The money was in a side area of the purse and the purse was left open. She said that you could see the money if you looked into the purse. They are checking video and will advise us if they see anything.

Employees for Sibley Health Center reported that sometime between the 2nd and 3rd of June, someone took an ultrasound machine, four probes, and related equipment.

Victim said that he and his girlfriend broke up. While he was at work, she packed up her things and left. He came home and found that his laptop was gone. I can tell you from reading a lot of reports and by personal experience that when that time comes to split from your spouse or other significant other, make plans based on what you stand to lose. If you are the one leaving, get all your stuff in one trip. If you are going to tell your wife or husband or significant other that you are going to leave them, don’t do it and then go to sleep. You need to physically go somewhere else on the planet and lock the doors. This is known as the Phil Hartman Syndrome.

Theft from Vehicles

Dell laptop, black folding wallet with money clip, back pack, leather computer bag,

Laptop computer, three Coach bags, two computer bags, an iPod, $200 sunglasses, clothing valued at $1,200 and three CD’s.

iPod and a navigation screen.

$600 digital camera and $600 cash.

iPod, $175 Oakley sunglasses, and Callaway golf clubs and bag valued at $900.

CD player and 72 CD’s.

You may have noted that some folks got some new laptops and i-Pods over the past few days. There is nothing more important than taking your possessions out of the car each and every night before you lock up. It’s not like those iPod and laptops need to be carted around in a wheelbarrow. Put the laptop under your arm on in the case. The i-Pod fits in your pocket. What’s the problem? These things cost so much money yet people treat it like a pack of gum. Well that doesn’t really make much sense. I guess I was trying to show that gum is relatively inexpensive compared to an i-Pod. Anyway, they aren’t breaking into cars and then looking around. They see what they want then smash and grab. You should really think about this.

Might I also add that if you leave something visible in your car that just looks valuable you stand a good chance of replacing a window in your car. Thieves broke the side window of my daughter’s car just to steal an old empty purse. It might as well have been $250 in cash as that’s what it cost to replace the window. That’s probably one of the cheapest lessons she’ll ever learn though.

Anyone who will pay $175 - $200 for sunglasses aren’t deep thinkers anyway.

I get so tired of the cheap, poor, or less fortunate people making ignorant comments about how stupid others are for indulging themselves with nice things that carry a heavy price tag. If you had the money you would do it too. It is that attitude the keeps you living in the toilet of society. When you learn to respect nice things you may get nice things. In the mean time you keep driving your KIA and buying your accessories from the local gas station.

Brad, what makes you different from mustang100? By spouting elitist crap, you sound as bad as he/she does. Me, I’m more from the Clark Howard school of thinking. I live frugally and make sure I have a nice bit of savings stashed away. If others want to spend money on extravagant items, good for them. I don’t have a problem with that. Me and my Kia are doing just fine!

Brad, you sound a mite defensive to me. Is it possible you are one who regularly loses his expensive toys? Though I agree with the basic premise expounded by mustang100, as a victim of defective eyesight, I know that there are times when even “deep thinkers” must spend a bit more on what they need.

With all the WEIRD crime that goes on in Sandy Springs, why not come up with a yearly list of apartment complexes with the least and most amount of crime for people in the area or moving to the area to see. That way, people, especially with children, can move into a complex with less crime then going into it blind and finding out that no hand fred that lives below has no hand because he cut it off or that the person next to is running an escort business or drugs.
