Let’s get back to the days of ‘normal’ crime

Paris Hilton reportedly may spend far less than 45 days in county jail for violating probation. Apparently the authorities are faced with the fact that the jails are overcrowded. The answer is not to put people in them. They started this trend back in 1995 with O.J. Simpson.

A spokesperson for the sheriff’s department said: “Paris will be treated like any other inmate who’s classified as a low-level security risk. This means that she has to be back from the clubs at midnight.”

Last year, “Lost” actress Michelle Rodriguez was sentenced to 60 days in jail for violating probation after her drunken driving arrest in Hawaii. She was released in hours because of overcrowding. “Oh my God,” she cried, “That was the worst 45 minutes of my life!”

It’s crazy! Where can we go to get back to being normal? Of all places, a fight broke out on the opening night at the Boston Pops. Two guys got into a semi-sort-of-fight (Let’s just say it wasn’t Chuck Norris up there) up in the balcony. Witnesses said the fight started after and argument over musical differences of opinion on what period was most influential to most modern-era classical musicians.

One of the men suggested Classicism, from 1750 to 1820, was the most influential age of classical music. The other guy said it was Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Free Bird” era. The actual fighting broke out over when to flick the lighter and hold it up. The fighting was so lame that the cops just kicked them out without charging them. I’ve been to the symphony. It is very nice but could use more drum solos.

Thanks to phone cameras and video, the Internet is full of fights and rowdy behavior. It shows how stupid people can get, especially with booze. It also destroys the myth that movies and television created over the years as to how people actually fight. In the movies they hit each other with chairs and head-butt and hit guys across the room with their fists. They all look like Ali with the quick and devastating punches. In real life it’s a bit on the sloppy slide. In real life your punch to the head is usually costly. The most common injury resulting in fights are hand injuries. There are about 27 bones in there and they don’t stand up too well against thick jaw bones and skulls.

The other thing about television and movie fights is that the fighters connect on every swing. In real life it’s more miss than hit, especially with drunk guys. Drunks are just swinging away without a clue. Most of the time they just tire out. I saw one drunk try to head-butt the other guy but he missed and went straight down, head-butting the fender of a Olds Cutlass.

Chill out folks. Why waste a good night fighting like a couple of old hens in the balcony when you can be listening to a concerto, whether it’s violin, cello, or piano, it’s relaxing. It may not be “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida” but it’s better than breaking all those hand bones, connected to the arm bones and so on.

Rappers keep getting rapped knuckles no matter what they do. Dogg for weapons. Rappers always seen to have a weapon, and never seem to spend time behind bars. Paris is just stupid,so does she deserves 45 days. There is no law aginst being stupid. Why is there so much HATE?

I think Paris deserves every day she was sentenced and even more. Just think of the possible devastation she could have caused. She could have hurt or killed someone (even herself). This will be an humbling experience either way. She needs to recognize that no one is above the law.

Sadly in her mind, the current world is but a dream. Even if she does serve a short period of time it will never be enough to get her a true reality check. She will no doubt will get behind the wheel again, and will in short order become a blond bomshell with a even worse driving record.

California jails and prisons have been overcrowded since before 1980, when I started in LE there. Nobody likes to pay for new prisons/jails. It has nothing to do with OJ Simpson. Rose, you are a real goof.

i am sick and tired of these so called celebs thinking they are above the law and are better than everyone else.this person has no claim to fame or even any redeeming qualities!her parents should be ashamed of her and themselves for enabling her to be a high classed bum.if that had been you or me stopped for those violations,we would already be in jail—-for a lot longer than 45 days!!!make her serve it all and get a real dose of reality! i am sick of her and her type-too much money, too much free time and too little brains to know what to do with what they’ve got.enough already!!!!!

Yawn. Who cares? The woman (I’m trying to be generous here) is hopeless, continuously enabled by her doting, clueless mother and a family that seems to have more money than brains. Paris Hilton is a walking waste of oxygen, contributing to global warming with every exhaled breath. I would suggest 45 days on Parris Island (no pun intended) as opposed to jail; perhaps a little USMC-styled discipline would cause her to wake up.

By jbean3

It is sad that so many young girls look up to this “little, spoiled, rich girl”. She has no education, no common sense, and no brains. She was simply born into one of the richest families in the world.

Paris Hilton should serve the entire sentence for drunk driving, like the average person would. She is no better than the rest of us.

And her family should stop bailing her out and show her some tough love for a change. Maybe then she will grow up and not look like a fool. If she doesn’t, she might end up like Anna-Nicole.

And if the court system in LA gives her a pass, then they are just proving that celebs get better treatment than the tax payer.

PARIS HILTON BROKE THE LAW AND THEREFORE SHOULD SPEND THE ENTIRE 45 DAYS IN JAIL. NO MATTER HOW LONG SHE IS IN JAIL, IT WILL NOT CHANGE HER BEHAVIOR. PUTTING HER IN JAIL IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO, BUT IT WILL ONLY HELP HER CAREER. SHE IS ABLE TO STAY IN THE PUBLIC EYE BECAUSE OF STUNTS LIKE THIS.

Of course she won’t spend the full 45 days in prison!! Ooo Wow they’re going to suspend her license, she’ll just take a limo everywhere she goes until they give it back to her.
She’s never going to learn b/c her parents keep bailing her out and telling her how wonderful she is and how she’s being taken advantage of. You can’t blame the money on this though; I recently saw Donald Trump’s daughter being interviewed and she’s incredibly intelligent and articulate. Donald made sure to spend his money to send his kids to the best boarding schools and held them accountable for their actions. Maybe “The Don” should give Kathy Hilton some parenting advise.

If Paris had been arrested in GA, she would have received, at least, 12 mos in jail (probably suspended) and/or 1 year probation, a large fine, would have to go to drug/alcohol counseling and would have had her license suspened for 6 mos. Why should she be any different than anyone else - bring her to GA and let her do a little time here or send her to Arizona to the ‘jail camp’ there (with the sweet little pink undies).

I am so SICK and TIRED when somebody has so called bucked the system white folks wanna bring up OJ Simpson when that old fart after being free for 99 years FINALLY went to jail for bombing those 4 little black girls in Alabama. OJ Simpson got a million white folks that have bucked the systems way before he went to trial. Let’s not forget the runaway bride who committed several felonies and her record will be wiped clean in 2 years. Don’t get me started.

Dammitt; You are right OJ didn’t kill “Anyone”, He killed two people Nicole and Ron,. And as for Paris she is pathetic… she needs to acknowlege her mistake, stop trying to blame everyone else, learn to take resposibility for her own actions and take her lumps… She is rotten… rotten to the core. I watched one of her reality shows and was so disgusted with her rude, condesending snotty behavior to good decent hardworking people it sickened me. How anyone can watch that and not be disgusted amazes me and it is a sad statement on the state of affairs of our Nations morality, even Nicole was not quite of the same cloth… I am sad to see they have paired up again, she is not anyone I would want anything to do with, personlly or profesisonally. She should be taken out and stoned… Paris will end up old and alone, what self respecting man would want to have any longterm relationshuip with that bimbo…Talk about white trash…and yes trash does not have to not look bad, but you can tell its trash by the trail od stink left in its wake! I would have more respect for her is she declared her profession as that of a “porn person” as we all already know…only she isn’t even that and was not paid! One last thing, money definitly cannot buy you class, (What better example than PH) it may get you the gucci bag and the prada purse adn the mano blanick shoes but apparently class was missing from her shopping list! (I guess we can blame that on whoever it is that does her shopping for not adding it to the list or forgetting to stop and pick it up, but then you cannot buy it so poor girl is out there with all this $$ and no class!) Lets have a PPP, that is a Paris Pity Party!

She would never be alone. She is blonde. Anna Nicole was a bimbo and she was never alone. White men don’t care about nuthin else as long as they are blonde. Eerytime somebody stomp their toe white folks always wanna talk about O.J. Simpson. If his wife was black they would not even care about him and he would have had a table at that restaurant. If you really wanna know how overcrowded the jails are, somebody needs to do a count especially this week until Monday morning and see how many people were arrested and went to jail. They will stack those folks on top of each other like Lego blocks I bet cha. There are 3 things that p** white folks off and that is OJ, reperations for slavery and the newest member of the “white folks can’t stand club”, Al Sharpton.

If we’d legalize marijuana, and released all offenders (while taxing the fun out of using it), LA would have more bed space in jail or boot camp for reckless Miss Hilton. Then also maybe, violent crime in concert balconies would decline, since would-be brawlers might be too high and lazy for form a heated arguement.

By Fall Line

May 12, 2007 8:23 AM | Link to this

Marijuana is a lot like graffiti and broken windows. The time to stop crime is when it’s in its infancy when it’s most vulnerable to attack. The police in NYC learned this under the tutelage of Guiliani. Once you allow a neighborhood to transition to a high crime area, the task of bringing it back to normalcy becomes a struggle. I’m sure you’ve the phrase, “Nip it in the bud,” well it applies to, ironically, marijuana, and other small crimes in the neighborhood. This theory also applies to Paris Hilton. If you let her get away with the little things, you are, in effect, giving her permission to try the big things. Children, and yes, I include Hilton in this classification; will always try to push the envelope. It’s the responsibility of the law-abiding public to keep the envelope intact.

Just in case the color of the accused and victim distorted your view of what should have happened in the OJ trial, I’ll remind you that he was found NOT GUILTY by of jury of his and our peers. Granted, that does not mean he was innocent. It does mean that he is entitled to all the rights of anyone who has not been convicted of a crime. On that note, I hope he sues (and wins) against that racist store owner in Kentucky. I wonder how many pedophiles, rapists, etc. are patrons of his establishments? I’d be remiss if I didn’t add that I hope that every penny won in the lawsuit (if he wins) goes to Ron and Nicole’s respective families.

Just as OJ was and still is, Paris is privileged. There was pretty much no trial needed to determine here guilt. Her privilege did stop her from doing 90 days in jail. Please know that if anyone else had waltzed into a courtroom late like that for a probation violations hearing, they’d get 90 days and possibly more for contempt of court. As we all see, she will do far less than 45 days. Privilege. Not surprising…

Just as Paris and OJ are privileged, so are/were the Duke Lacrosse players. Color was not an issue in that case…it was a subplot at best. Duke? A “privileged” institution. Lacrosse? A “privileged” sport. A stripper? Exactly. Some very wealthy people closed ranks and when they dispersed, voilą!!! A side note is that Colin Finnerty has been a beneficiary of privilege (google him). I’m thinking he’ll be back in the news again before his time is done but don’t be surprised if his privilege contributes to a favorable outcome for him again.

The list could go on and on in regards to this privilege, which we all play into or support one way or another. It could range from your local high school player to your favorite celebrity.

Personally, I save my sympathy for people who have been falsely accused of crimes and are or have been imprisoned. Yes, the Innocence Project can free some via DNA but there are many more whose cases do not involve DNA at all. What are they to do? They lack privilege and the average person assumes they are guilty, right? I could go on but I’ll just leave it at America has some good apples and some bad apples….the worst “bad apples” are not in prison/jail….

Paris lives in California, or New York, or some other place. Why do we care what she does or how she serves her sentence. This, like Anna Nicole Smith, is just a bunce of hype. Everyone needs to be as concerned with their own life and the welfare of their family and ignore the tabloid trash.

Pulled over for 0.08 BAC for that little girl is about 1 mixed drink, which is what she said she had. And the world watches intently.

Sadly, she didn’t even get in a fight, no racial slurs, knocked-up, etc. Before the U.S. demanded the legal BAC be dropped from 0.1 to 0.08 or lose road funding, she wouldn’t even have gotten a ticket. OJ was guilty but got away. Paris is guilty and shouldn’t get away with it. Ditto for any other person (including white people) who’ve done wrong. It’s about right and wrong—not skin color…unless it suits your purposes.
