Big 10-4: Rose on the radio

Det. Steve Rose gave Star 94’s “Cindy and Ray Show” Thursday the recipe for his Neighborhood Watch program and ajc.com “View From the Cop” column.

“It comes from sarcasm and 25 years of bitterness,” he joked.

Appearing on the program’s weekly “Ask an Expert,” the Fulton detective went straight to the chase in his half-hour afternoon appearance.

Rose said TV police shows generally are accurate — sort of. “They may show the cop sliding off the hood [chasing a bad guy], but they don’t show the paperwork you have to do afterward.”

Answering calls, Rose said:

— “Most people are picked on because they are naive” and bad guys find the risk/opportunity scale in their favor.

— Missing Alabama teen Natalee Holloway “is out in the ocean somewhere” off the coast of Aruba.

— Shows like “CSI” help police get new recruits.

— “Scorned women” are a good source of info on perps.

— Enough with the cop and doughnut jokes.

— Women like men in uniform. Young officers “have an active social life.”

— Best food for a stakeout: Chicken wings.

— Homicide cases require round-the-clock investigation early on.

— And, remember, “most criminals are morons.”

Did you hear the Rose show with Cindy & Ray? What did you think?

I thought the ask an expert with Det. Rose was great! It was a great source of information yet entertaining at the same time. Det. Rose is funny, sarcastic and straight to the point. We need a little more of that on the radio these days. Would love to hear him on the again.

I continue to be amazed. He has the time to do all these media spots, yet his department is totally inept, crying out for cops on the beat to enforce the law.

The Fulton County Police are a b******* of the concept of law enforcement. Their mission statement must be “promote the laziest, and do no actual law enforcement.”

HELP IS NEEDED IN NORTH COUNTY. Enough with the cutesy …

John doesn’t understand public relations between the police and the community are a good thing, and might improve law enforcement much more than just adding bodies to walk the beat. Not to mention some of the good advice that trickles throughout the commentary. A good dose of humor would greatly improve his outlook.

John obviously has never worked in and knows nothing about law enforcement or community policing. Keep up the good work Detective Rose!

John is probably someone who has been stopped for speeding and always asks “Why aren’t you out there arresting murderer’s instead of hassling me?”. Am I right, John? I’ve seen it a thousand times in my 33 years of policing. It gets a little old!

You know every time I heard the comment about writing a traffic citation versus chasing real crooks. It’s a striking example of traffic ticket, when the “Son of Sam” was written a traffic citation that led to him being identified and placed near a crime scene. In thirty years of policing I wished I had a nickle for every time I heard that phrase also

Congratulations. After millions of tickets written, one was used 20 years ago to catch one major criminal. That’s one hell of a success rate. Do you deny that the departments have a revenue target from tickets?

Why aren’t you out there arresting murderers instead of hassling people going 8mph over the speed limit? Or better yet, getting those idiots with the loud exhausts (imports and motorcycles) that wake us up at 2am?
