In the end, HE got taken for a ride

A man hired a limo for the evening. The limo picked him up at a hotel on Peachtree Dunwoody Road. The passenger said he lost his driver’s license but had a photocopy of it as well as a bank card.

The limo driver carried the man to several bars in the Atlanta area and then back to the hotel. The patron paid the driver and gave him a $70 tip, all on the card.

Later that night he called to hire the limo again.

The limo driver was informed that the card was reported stolen. He called police and told them he was on the way to pick up the suspect, who was now at a different hotel.

The officers and driver made arrangements for the limo to be pulled over after the pickup. The limo driver would confirm that his passenger was the same man who hired him the first time.

They pulled the limo over and spoke to the passenger, who said he had stolen the driver’s license Friday night and altered it so that the name was that of the theft victim and the photo was that of the suspect.

The suspect told officers that he enjoys living the high life. He was charged with forgery and theft of services.

He was then chauffeured to the FC jail.

Love, in the third degree

A woman reported that she and her boyfriend got into an argument at a Roswell Road club. The boyfriend allegedly went to the parking lot and damaged her car. He called her on her cell phone and said he was going to damage her apartment next.

The victim’s car was heavily damaged. The officer took her to her apartment. There, they found the boyfriend. The victim found her college diploma had been ripped in half. A note nearby read, “I only hit where it counts.”

The boyfriend was arrested and taken to FC jail.

Other things:

— The Winding River Drive victim said she was in her kitchen when a woman entered through a sliding glass door, took her purse and walked back out. The victim went outside and got her purse back. She told officers the woman has been seen in the area before and lives nearby.

— A guy who got into an accident at I-285 near New Northside Drive tried to hide his wallet under the seat while the H.E.R.O. unit was helping. The H.E.R.O. employee told the officer, who told the driver to produce his wallet. It contained the motorist’s suspended driver’s license. He got into trouble because he apparently didn’t go to court on a previous ticket.

Detective Rose,

See if you have heard of this one. It reminds me of a 60 Minutes report from Georgia from the late 70s. Last Thursday, my wife and I were on 75 heading toward Dalton when a SUV swerved into the lane next to us and held up a sign stating that we were “leaking gas”. I am very aware of my vehicle’s operation and was suspicious from the start. After there was no sign of change on the gas reading, I waited until the next well illuminated QT before pulling off the expressway. After filling the car, because it needed it ANYWAY, and noticing no smell of gas, we went inside for a quart of brown soda (they all taste the same) and when we came out, a truck was pulled up against our car and a young man was walking back to the truck quickly. Either I am PARANOID or he was going to squirt some gas below my vehicle and offer to take me to a friend who would fix it locally.

Are you familiar with this ruse?
