Left him with a gift of lingerie
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The Summerbrook Drive victim said he had broken up with his girlfriend recently. Here’s his story: The girlfriend stayed on his couch and allegedly took his ATM card. He canceled the card and she showed up the next day to return it. She called him later to say she was going out with her girlfriends and would stop by. This, to him, meant trouble. He arranged to be away for the night.
When he returned home the following morning his kitchen window was slightly ajar. He discovered the following items gone: a Sony DVD camera, RCA portable DVD player, 10 DVDs and a gym bag. His clothes were also thrown on the floor and his bedroom ransacked. He checked his cell phone and found a message telling him that she was in her apartment to get her stuff. She said the mess is what he gets for cheating on her!
The victim told the officers that his ex-girlfriend never lived at the apartment and the only items there were a pair of shoes and a bra. He told her to come and get the items but she didn’t.
Thanks so much for the evidence
The burglar at the 1500 block of Windridge Drive took a bottle of ginger ale, drank it and then left the bottle on the counter so we could fingerprint it. He did make off with 19 DVDs and a Dell laptop.
Packing heat, sort of
A man said he was coming home to his Roswell Road apartment. He was driving through the complex when he heard three males yelling at him. He rolled the window down and (somehow!) an argument ensued. One of the men took his cell phone out and called someone. The man drove to his apartment.
The victim came back outside to check his car. He saw six males walking up. One of the men pulled a gun from his pants and said he was going to kill him. The man said he charged the man with the gun (not smart by the way). The gunman ran, shooting over his shoulder. The man said he was hit in the shoulder and realized the man was shooting with a BB gun. The suspect was described as 5’2” and 130 lbs, maybe 15-16 years old. The victim told officers he believes the shooter lives in the complex.

I’m a new reader of the column. The story of the burglar donating his prints made me smile. “Crims” are the same the whole world over. After a house break-in, we followed the tracks in the virgin snow, playing Sherlock Holmes as we told one another when the ned had ceased running and started walking, where he had fallen on his butt, where he had made a vain attempt to try and stop making tracks. Eventually we saw him walking towards us, bringing back the loot and laughing at himself. He pled guilty, but his hilarious account of his futile getaway saved him from jail time.

Not a comment, but a question - in “Packing Heat, Sort of” you mention that is not smart to charge a person holding a gun. What should we do if someone points a gun at us?
