PlayStation 3 won’t hit shelves until November
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The signs were all there. And now it’s official.
Sony’s PlayStation 3, the game console which has countless folks frothing, has been officially delayed from a Spring release until November.
Quite the bummer for those hoping to score one of these consoles in time for summer.
Part of the reason? Apparently, the final copy protection specs for the Blu-ray drive incorporated into the PS3 needed to be finalized.
There is some shred of good news: the PS3 will incorporate a n upgradable 60 GB hard drive. But the delay definitely offers a terrific window for Microsoft to start ramping up production of Xbox 360s and HD-DVD add-on drives.
Is this a coup for HD-DVD? Does this affect your purchasing decision on the next-gen gaming consoles? Post away.

I haven’t even picked up a playstation control since XBOX came out. PS2 may have more games to play, but they look crappy compared to the X and more games does not equal better games. It seems that the people ages 10-22 play playstation and 22-40 play xbox. I had and loved my PS1 for a lot of years, but when it’s time to go, it’s time to go. I do hope the PS3 looks better since the PS2 graphics did not even look as good as the Nintento. Game on.

I am a Sony whore (I own a Sony Trinitron tv, discman, walkman, net walman mp3 player, portable radio, handycam, ps1, ps2, Sony headphones, zip drive, etc) so I will wait as long as it takes and trade my first born if that’s what it takes to get a PS3. You just can’t beat there quality and innovations. If sony sold poop on a stick I’d buy that too.

Yari:
Early speculation is that it will be priced around $425. Then again, there’s eight months to go.

For someone like myself that must own every game console as they become available, this means nothing. I will still buy the PS and sit it right next to my XBOX 360 ontop of the treasure chest that holds the original nintendo, Atari, and Sega Genesis games. I’m a natural consumer, what can I say?

Hey Stephen,
What kind of resolution can you get with that poop on a stick? Should I buy that too?

I agree that it does provide Microsoft the opportunity to redeem itself for a horrible initial rollout of 360 and claim market share. I think the add ons like dvd and memory and pluses but I think most people buying these systems are looking for graphic upgrades, more realism and more intriguing games overall. Microsoft caught a break for sure.

Early claims I read said that Sony would sell it at a loss between 300-400. Not sure how accurate. I’m still waiting to buy it. I won’t buy an xbox 360 that isn’t fully backward compatible

You know what? Who cares? I dunno about you, but I am plenty happy with my good ole’ PS2 and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Who needs a PS3 when you have THAT? What’s better than stealing cop cars and bikes, killing cops, doing it with whores and then beating them with bats, buying mass amounts of prorperty all over town, flying jets and helicopters, and just plain, old-fashioned mayhem? Nothing beats that. Put me in front of a PS2, a decent TV, and GTA, and I’m good to go four hours. It’s also the best stress relief you can think of. Not to mention it’s funny as hell. Who needs an XBOX 360 or PS3? Not I.
Long live GTA!!!

My first system was a Nintendo NES followed by a Sega Genesis. My parents bought PC games for our computer and when they did not work, they got me a PS1. I bought a PS3 a couple of years later when it was $299 and then went and bought another one last year after my first one was stolen. When I have the money, I will buy a PS3. PS3 or XBOX 360. For me, that is an easy answer: PS3. I don’t like the Microsoft controls and personally think that Halo is one of the few reasons that the XBOX was so popular. For those of you who have been waiting for the PS3 like me, it will be MUCH better than the XBOX 360. And that’s all I have to say about that!

360 man myself, & thiz iz another example of Sony feeling the pressure to perform at a higher level. Xbox got these guyz so beat they have to copy they style…hardrive, HD, etc. I hope they bring Xbox some kind of competition, cause we are all by ourselves in the gammin’ world right now! Poor PS2 gammerz are still tryin’ to compare to the 360. Itz like puttin’ a Pitbull against a mutt!

At this time I am enjoying my Xbox 360 and have no interest in the PS3. Should the PS3 end up with features as good as the 360, games that I want to play and not cost more than the 360 then I’ll consider it. So far all Sony has shown is smoke and mirrors.

Console gaming is for kids. REAL gaming is in the PC. Show me where you can match a good old keyboard and mouse on Quake 4 with a BS hand-held controller.. show me where you can sit comfortably with a steering wheel and pedals other than behind a PC monitor.. show me where a TV/game console can reproduce 1600x1200x32 graphics.
Nah, like I said.. consoles are for kids.

Sony’s Vortex processor and Matrix cell convertor will make the 360 look awful. No one will buy another product from MicroCrap agian after November.

Scooby, I know the feeling. I had in no certain order: Pong, Atari, Coleco Vision (then attach it to the Adam computer), Vic-20 computer, Nintento, Sega Genesis, PS1, Sega Dreamcast and then Xbox.

O.K…. here’s my thought… The PS3 will be able to play PS2 and some PS1 games without having to purchase any add-ons or hard drives. This gives more of an impression that Sony is actually thinking about the people that bought their previous Playstations - by allowing them to play their older games without having to break open their wallets again for another add-on… Submitted for your consideration…

A product like the xbox 360 or the ps3 comes along every 4 or 5 years, so I never understood why some people always have to pit one console against another. It should not be hard for most people to afford both if they work and are into gaming. I have my xbox 360 and I’ll get the ps3 as well. However, I will not waste one penny on Nintendo’s new console, because I could use that penny on something more entertaining.

I love it when somebody throws out the old “I have a life” comment. We all have lives-some of us just enjoy playing video games & having the latest gadgets. I’m happy for the delay; that way I can get the most out of the 360. When I can buy a PS3 I will.

Some of you people do need a life. Most of you are grown men and all you do is play video games. Some of you would rather play games then make love to your woman (IF you have one).
Use that money you spend on consoles and games and buy a decent suit and get a JOB. Or if you need to buy something high Tech, buy a new plasma or LCD TV so you can watch your lame shows like American Idol.

PS3 will be awesome just like PS2.. Why would anyone spend the money on an XBOX or XBOX 360, its horrible how microsoft is duping people into buying the 360, when its just a regular XBOX, but with a couple numbers on the end to make it sound like a one of a kind game console. Sorry micro guys, November is worth the wait, and Bill Gates is going to be disgusted when he sees Sony’s PS3 sales. Long Live GTA & Sony !!

It cracks me up to hear people only talk about GTA for PS2, I know people only talk about HALO for xbox, but c’mon, the gameplay on GTA is great, but the graphics….are awful…it’s like a 200mhz processer, it really compares to computer games in 1996. If the PS3 actually looks good, then I may look into getting one, if not, I will stick with my original xbox and cpu.
