SEC wins third straight title; Will Tim Tebow come back?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Miami Gardens, Fla.—It was an incredible scene on the field after Florida’s 24-14 win over Oklahoma for the BCS national championship.
The cameramen simply mobbed Tim Tebow after the game. Tebow was clearly emotional when he was announced as the outstanding offensive player of the game. As he stood on the podium to accept the award, the Florida fans screamed “One more year! One more year!”
The question is: Will Tebow return for his final season? Just a junior, he has two national championship rings. He has a Heisman Trophy. If he returns, Tebow has a chance to win a third national championship and become the most decorated college football player in history. Tebow would not tip his hand after the game.
“I promised the guys that I would go out and play with all my heart,” he said. “I was so motivated tonight. Oklahoma’s a great team and they came out and played hard. I can’t put it into words—it was just an incredible night.”
As was the case in the SEC championship game, Tebow rose to the occasion when the game was on the line. With his team leading 17-14, Tebow led his team on a 76-yard touchdown drive to put the game away. In that drive Tebow threw a 29-yard strike to David Nelson that gave Florida a first down at the Oklahoma 20-yard line. Anybody who thinks Tebow can’t play in the NFL needs to look at that throw.
Charlie Strong, the Florida defensive coordinator, could only smile. His defense had held the nation’s No. 1 offense, which was averaging 54 points a game, to only 14 points. Oklahoma reached the one yard line and the six-yard line in the first half and came away with no points. “I thought we could play with those guys but I never thought we could hold them to 14 points,” Strong said. “We just hung in there the entire game.”
Question: When is somebody going to hire this man as a head coach? What more does he have to prove? Florida has won two national championships in three years and defense has played a big part of that.
SEC Commissioner Mike Slive was all smiles as his league began celebrating its third straight national championship and its fourth in the past six years.
“It’s a great night for Florida and a great night for our conference,” said Slive. “It was just a wonderful season and a wonderful game.”
And the SEC got a little redemption. In a season where some of its franchise teams struggled, Alabama and Florida were ranked 1-2 in the AP poll when the met for the national championship. And for the third straight year the SEC team entered the BCS championship game as the No. 2 team and won. The SEC might not have been the best conference in the land from top to bottom this season. And maybe the SEC didn’t dazzle people with their offense. But defense wins championships. The SEC got another crystal football Thursday night.
That’s it tonight from South Florida. We have a press conference with Urban Meyer at 10 a.m. I will get back to you after that and file a final blog for the season. It has been a wild one.

tony…even though you’re a muttlander, you will be missed by this proud Southern football fan…and much love for picking the jackets to win a 2nd straight state championship ;)…
i am also an alabama fan. the SEC is still the best conference in the nation. the rest of the nation doesn’t realize how tough the talent and the football is down here, regardless of which of the 12 schools you’re talking about. hell, even vandy won a bowl game this year! you’re absolutely correct - while offense may win games, defense wins championships.
Georgia tech and alabama…21-6 combined this year (the best combined year of my life, i think) with AUghtta-burn and u[sic]ga both taking their butt-whuppin’s…order has been restored to the college football universe…it’s gonna be a long wait till august…

Ladies & Gentlemen, may I introduce to you the 2008-2009 AP-USA Today-BCS “consensus” national champion Florida Gators!
Wow! That was a game, and certainly a game that very few people expected. A game that turned on defense more than offense, a game that was tied 0-0 after the first quarter, 7-7 after the second quarter, and the Gators ahead by a single TD at the beginning of the fourth quarter. Who predicted 24 points would win this game? Not me, that’s for sure. Could’ve made a fortune by placing a Vegas bet on the game being tied 0-0 after 15 minutes.
I was impressed with Sooner QB Sam Bradford. He made 10+ impossible passes to his receivers for double-digit yardage. Impressive, but the Gators’ defense finally started to put effective pressure on Bradford and the slowed OU’s usual offensive efficiency. The Sooners got their yards, but not their points. Two amazing goal-line stands by the Gator defense, and a blocked field goal by the Gator special teams. The Soooners’ defense turned in their best performance of the year, but ultimately the Gators’ defense did, too.
Great game. Not a blow-out,. but a see-saw battle whose outcome was still seriously in doubt until deep in the fourth quarter. I’m sure that the Sooners and their fans are smarting just now, but please accept my congratulations on a game well played. The Sooners are a great team, and they should have nothing but pride for the game and the season they played.

Tony——Just my humble opinion, but I believe Tim Tebow will return to play his senior year for love of the game. Regardless of which Gators return and which go in the NFL draft, the Gators 2008-2009 season will be tough to top. In their 103-year history, the Gators have never had an undefeated season, including their three national championship seasons. Perhaps that can be Mr. Tebow’s goal for his senior season.

As a UGA fan, i can only hope Tebow goes to the NFL. And something else…as I was watching Florida win tonight, I started thinking…Meyer has really done a lot in his short time at Florida…I mean 2 Nat’l Championships and will probably have his team ranked #1 pre-season for next season. Man, as much as I like Richt and appreciate his values, I just can’t see him having the kind of career Meyer is having. I’m not a fan of Meyer’s per se, but I will tell you, I have to admire the way he gets his players to play hard and with alot of heart. I also think that Meyer would not let ANYTHING come between him and winning a Nat’l Championship. That includes players AND coaches that aren’t doing everything they can to make his teams sucessful. How does he turn around a lackluster season of last year? Well…for starters he didn’t say he was confident that his coaches and players had played the best they could “under the circumstances” heck no, he was p** that Florida had lost to Georgia and that his team had multiple losses. So what does he do about it? He has the audacity to write a book about himself in the off-season (big ego huh?) and in the book tell everyone who will listen that he was going to right the wrong of the loss with Ga, and he was going to win “Urban’s way”. Well, he did more than that. When Florida did have that disapointing loss to Ole Miss this year (by only one point) Tebow AND Meyer let it be known that the team was going to work extra hard to insure that wouldn’t happen again and that they would be a stronger team for it. mmmm..so what happened? They did not lose another game and destroyed the competition the rest of the year. Oh, and won a Nat’l Championship as well…and on the way..dismantled Alabama. I wish Richt had the kind of fire in his gut that makes it possible to win Nat’l Championships. Ga hasn’t won one since 1980. It’s time to win some guys. I think by Richt being “satisfied” with the way his players played this year and his coordinators coached “under the circumstances”…It saddens me that he is content with a 10-win season. When you look at Saban and Meyer…THEY are the standard bearers for the SEC as far as coaches that work extra hard and are not satisfied with just winning records…if there are not trophies in their cabinets they don’t sleep at night. If Richt is more concerned with counseling men and more worried about what his guys think of him, I think he is in the wrong field. He needs to be a prison counselor or missionary. Don’t get me wrong, I am a Christian and I appreciate those qualities of Richt. Just not as Ga’s coach. WE NEED A SABAN…WE NEED A MEYER! BTW, here’s a thought for you to chew on…even though Saban had Alabama probably two years ahead of schedule this year with the way they played…(and these are mostly YOUNG players) do you think he was happy with going 12-2 this year? Do you think he sleeps well at night knowing he was sooo close to the BCS title game and came up short. No Way. He is more motivated now to bring home that title to Alabama. It tears him up to know he lost to Meyer in the SEC Championship game (heck did you see the press conference-he was torn up!) Richt would have been totally satisfied with a 12-2 season and no championship. Saban was not…Meyer would not have been. AND, my fellow bulldawg fans…THAT IS THE DIFFERENCE.

Let me also say…Les Miles at LSU was not satisfied with the way his defense finished this season…so..you know what he did? he got rid of his DC and hired Tenn.’s DC Chavis. Smart man..definitely an upgrade. How about it Richt? You going to upgrade Ga’s situation in the off season? OR are you already practicing your 2009 excuses speech: “well, I think considering we lost both Stafford and Moreno to the NFL, we should be satisfied with the 4 loss season” yep, get ready for it…

TB,
Thanks for that update…believe me, I need to do some bragging with buddies of mine who went to USC and UMich, esp. For years, they’ve tried to talk smack with me as far as the SEC is concerned. This three-peat should arm me for some bragging rights. A request to all my fellow UGA fans — forget the intra-conference rivalry for a second guys…it is important to make a point to college football fans like those on the left coast or in the midwest — it is important to ram our conference’s efficacy to other conferences. Go SEC!

D-MAN….Richt has never said he was satisfied not winning a championship. As a matter of fact he has said the opposite. So in the words of Allen Iverson’s mother “keep it real”.
There were over 118 other teams watching the game last night. Some finished close to the top most didn’t. If your in love with Saban and Meyer? Jump on the bandwagon. I will stick with the team from Athens and their coach.

And don’t forget that it could very easily have been four in a row if Auburn had not been snubbed after the 2004 season. Oklahoma got the benefit of the doubt over Auburn that year, just like they did over Texas this year. How many MNCs does Oklahoma have to lose before the media quits worshipping at the altar of Bob Stoops and start giving other legitimate teams a shot at playing for the title? Until Oklahoma is the sole undefeated team in the country and everybody else has at least two losses, they don’t deserve another berth in the championship game. Time to spread the wealth a bit.

Maybe higher power just does not like UGA. So tebow come back so fl can get you another one- they WILL win it all. UNFORTUNATELY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love CMR to death, And I think all that coach and play under him will be better men for it. But, that should be a by product, not the objective. His job is to win 14 games a year within the rules of the NCAA. His job is to do whatever he has to do within the rules to win 14 games. His job is to do whatever is in the best interest of the UGA football program to do so. If he doesn’t think that, we have the wrong man. Saban knows it, as does Meyer and Miles. Yes, we all KNOW he WANTS to go 14-0. Who doesn’t. What is he NOT doing that Florida, Bama, LSU, and now Tennessee is doing it. Those teams aren’t satisfied. CMR said he was this year .looking at our Defense lack of production the last last 3 years says it all. Look at stats, not emotions. Or, look at scoring 42 on Tech and LOSING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also, people want Garner for recruiting, not coaching. Nobody is beating down our door to hire anyone. ( Bobo and Martinez that is). We are hoping to get better with these guys ( coach’s). Hope ? Meyer doesn’t have hope in his vocabulary. Yes, I’m envious from the game last night.

Hey Tony - Tebow was just a sub two years ago - don’t try to tell me he won that one too. His Heisman season UF finished as the #16 team with four losses. This is the only “great” season that he really had anything to do with! Don’t get all ESPN on us and vote him the greatest thing since corn flakes! JB You really hit exactly how I feel. I love the way CMR always puts the kids up front. Talks about building men and seems to really care for them. My old coach was the same way as CMR. A good strong Christian man but did not have hope in his vocabulary. His words were will and shall not hope. If we screwed up, he would kick our butts. God save the guy that jumped offsides! But what do we do? What is the alternative? I think CMR would stay at GA forever and we will get 9-11 win seasons in perpetuity. Guys like Saban and Meyers seem to be one step away from the next contract. Is that what we want?

The real number 1 is the University of Southern California. Too bad Gators, but real men play for Southern Cal. The top five:
SEC co-coaches of the year: Houston Nutt & Nick Saban.
Most overrated coach of the year: Mark Richt. Sorry Georgia fans and Tony.
Most underrated coach of the year: The coach of Vanderbilt (can’t remember his name). I wonder what he could do with UGA’s talent pool?
Best coaching job of 2008 with what he had: Stacey Searles——no serious competition in the SEC.

Agree with you on one point
Searles, best coach for what he had to work with. NUTT stepped into a good team loaded with talent so, don’t know if his coaching made that much of a difference, his whole team is NFL bound so we’ll see next season what his coaching skills are. SABAN cant seem to win a big game so don’t agree with that pick either. I’d say the best coaching performance in the SEC this season was Charlie Strong, and i’m with Tony on that one when is someone going to wake up and give this man a head coaching job?

Dawg fans, it’s time to set our sights as high as our coach. He gets pretty jacked when we squeek by Kentucky. That’s pretty telling.
BTW, our coach said this was their best coaching job ever. Meyer probably feels the same about his staff.
The difference, we got destroyed in our biggest games (sorry to those fans who are savoring the Cap 1 win) while UF won the SEC East, the SEC, and the MNC. Kinda illustrates the difference in the programs.
I’m going to greatly lower my expectations of the dawgs. At least these lowered expectaions will be in line with the coaches. You know, if we can beat USC, KY and Vandy, thats a heck of a season, right?

The bcs championship game was a sham. No wonder the sec loves this format….they get to play some overrated team from the big 12 or big 10 and claim a title. If you had a 16 team playoff they would have to earn it and it would be much more difficult. Obviously, Utah, USC and Texas are much better teams than oklaHOMO but they were denied the opportunity to play for it on the field. Of course Utah stomped the dawgshiite out of alabammmer. The bcs is the most IDIOTIC system ever developed. The only things worse are having Chan Gailey as a coach or having to read Tony Barnyards blog. Thank God and Greyhound that Chan Gailey is gone forver…too bad he didn’t take the bcs and Tony Barnyards idiotic drivel with him.

Great game Gators. I’m a Vol first and an SEC homer second, and you did the conference proud. As has been said by bloggers already, the heart of this team is awesome. Tebow is…well he is Tebow, an athlete who puts it on the line every single game. As much as he has beaten my Vols to death for two straight years, he is a pleasure to watch and I really hope he returns (well, more of a pleasure when he is beating someone else to death).
Those two goal line stands by the Gators against the highest scoring offense in NCAA history were just incredible. I was not a believer when Urban Meyer came to the SEC, but the record speaks for itself. Again, congratulations and thanks for putting it all out there last night…well okay maybe reigning in that player who kept jumping early, but hey, you won.

I agree with dawgzilla. The Georgia Football program is not even in the same league with the Gators. You can just watch the Gators players and coaches and see and sense that they are much more agressive, talented and driven. They have that swagger, killer instinct. Georgia has never had this and never will under the current coaching staff. In this case it might be another 20 years or so before we even will another SEC title unless we get lucky and back into it like 2005. Hats off to the Gator players and coaches.

UGA will never win the SEC again with Saban and Meyer around. Richt’s coaching staff are like 5th graders in relation to ALA and FLA coaches. Complete lack of discipline by the players combined with MAC conference assistant coaches gives you a consistent 8-4 season until the recuits stop coming, then it goes to 6-6 and you might as well put a Vanderbilt sticker on your helment.

Speaking as a Vol who has watched CMR’s programs closely, I think he is a very good coach, but not yet a “great” coach. A “great” coach inspires his teams to greatness and instilling not just a belief that they “can” win or “should” win, but a “determination” to win, ehether up, or behind, favored, or an underdog. Meyer may very well be a “great” coach. There are times when I see GA go into a game with an attitude that they are “entitled” to win, just because some sportswriter said that they should.
What I am saying is that the best teams KNOW that they have to win it on the field EVERY Saturday. A “great” coach inspires that. Can CMR get there, maybe, but as so many today have said, he can’t be “comfortable” or “content” with losing two or three games each year. Contentment breeds complacency, complacency means “also ran”.

It has been brought to my attention that I should have included one more category in my original post. So, without further ado:
Worst head coaching hire in the SEC for 2008:
Kiffen at Tennessee. If you Vols fans had wanted the old man, you should have hired him and not Jr.
1st runner up: Chizik at Auburn. Should have hired Charlie Strong. Probably will in a couple of years.

Conference loyalty is a joke. People who root for one usually never went to one of the schools in them. SEC? I hate every other school except the one I went to (Go Dawgs). UF’s win is not good for UGA. SEC pride? What garbage.
garbage,
I couldn’t agree more. I can’t stand it when SEC teams cheer for other SEC teams just because they are in the same conference. Maybe I am different because I came from a state where a in state rivalry was real and you NEVER cheered for Clemson, ever! If these idiots would realize that Florida and LSU winning National Titles doesn’t help anyone in the SEC except those schools. Don’t you think a recruit that is deciding between Georgia and Florida would lean more towards Florida after winning the Nnational Title? Seems like the other SEC fans would realize this. Not to mention the rest of the country thinks you are complete homers and retards!
Go Gamecocks (to hell with the rest of the SEC)!

Well, the UF fans knew they deserved better, demanded it and guess what? They got it. Instead of hoping, they made it happen. 2 in 3 years!
The ends justify the means. Nice guys finish last (or at least a distant 2nd or 3rd). Note to the UGA fans and coaches, hope is NOT a strategy.

Eric1——If you watched the Texas-vs-Ohio State Fiesta Bowl and the Florida-vs.-Oklahoma BCS title game, you know that Ohio State and Oklahoma gave Texas and Florida all they could handle. Notwithstanding that Oklahoma and Ohio State both lost a BCS bowl again, they did not “suck.” Arguably, they both came prepared to play, left everything on the field, and lost to a better team. Losing 55-19 or 41-14 is a “blow out.” Losing by 10 or 3 points, after your team led in the 4th quarter, is not.
Oklahoma, of course, is a victim of the their own previous success this season. A program that is used to scoring 45-66 points per game, and blowing out its opponents by an average of 30+ points is not going to look as good when they lose by 10. Give the Gators’ defense the credit for that. One 4-down goal line stand is a fluke; two 4-down goal line stands and a blocked field goal is amazing, keyed-up defense and not an accident. I still expected Oklahoma to win until Ahmad Black intercepted Sam Bradford half way through the 4th quarter only then could you begin to see the frustration on Bradford and the faces on the Sooner sidelines.

OK and OSU should have to play each other in a bowl for the next 5 seasons. Winner of the best of 5 earns its return to the real bowl scene. To the writer asking about respect for an acc team - earn it. Congrats to the Gators. It’s noticeable when a team wants it. SEC 6-2 in bowls. Most wins. Interesting that the acc had already played 9 bowl games before the SEC even started. Says something about the level of bowls of both conferences. Just sayin’…

With Stafford and Moreno the dawgs had two guys that the whole team always relied on to make the big plays and get them out of the trouble the defense and penalties got them into. With a first year starter who has more leadership in his pinkie than stafford and a committee of RBs maybe we can have a team who bands together plays as a team and with fire and intensity because they know that everyone has to do their part to win. It is time to play football the way Pollack played. I think if you watched Tebow on the sidelines getting his team fired up last night it would have brought back the memories of the leader in Pollack that UGA is missing. We are not going to get that kind of passion from our HC so we need someone to step up and be that guy for UGA. Oh, and congrats Gators. You guys were definitely the best team in the nation this year. USC and Utah both play in joke conferences. Come get some of the SEC.

It’s a great day to be a Gator.
I have to get this off my chest; been holding it back for four years now. I’ve heard from all of my UGA buddies for the past four years about how much better Matthew Stafford was over Tim Tebow. During the recruiting process, after the 07 game, and even after this year’s game, which completely befuddled me after a 49-10 beatdown.
Yes, Stafford may be a better pro prospect, but he’s nowhere near the leader and fighter that Tebow has been for the Gators the past 3 seasons.
I’m sure Stafford will go high in the NFL draft and will make considerably more money, but I don’t really know that it’s that big of a priority to Tebow. He’ll probably play a few years in the NFL and then go back to doing what he loves, serving as a missionary around the world.
I find it hillarious that after all the smack my UGA friends said for the past four years about how much better of a college QB Stafford would wind up being over Tebow, Timmy has three things that Matt Stafford will never have: Multiple SEC Titles, a Heisman Trophy, and Multiple National Titles, regardless of whether or not he comes back next year or not.
Simply put, you guys can have the rifle arm and “Mr. NFL prospect”; I’ll take the man with a big heart that can find a way to win a big game by himself if he has to.

Valdosta Gamecock In a perfect world it would not matter about conference loyalty but we live in the world of the bCS where voter opinion matters. When at least one team gets left out of the big game every year we need a good outlook on the strength of the teams that we play in our conference and how our conference compares to others so that when it is an SEC (maybe even the gamecocks one day) that is in the running for the Nat’l title game they will vote for the SEC team over other conferences due to our dominancy. So no, conference loyalty is not garbage. Not thinking something through before you say it is garbage.

SEC defense once again greater than the most highly rated offense and 2 wins over the Big 12 offenses. The analysts will debate it again next year but the SEC defense is on top.
As for USC, how did the PAC10 do against the MWC? Utah has a good team but if they played a full SEC or Big 12 schedule there would not be a debate. UF #1, OU #2, Utah #3 and USC #4 for the year.

Congrats to Florida. I was actually cheering for them last night. I promised myself that I wouldn’t but I couldn’t resist once the game started.
I think the fact that I really don’t like OU that much contributed to this phenomenon. I think they may be the most overrated team of the decade. Can anybody name a single big out of conference victory for OU in the past 5 years? The pattern is always the same. They play virtually no one out of conference, cake walk through the patsy Big 12, and then get rolled up in a BCS bowl. OVERRATED.
And that was the worst broadcast of a college football game I have EVER seen. Absolutley horrific. Raycom does a better freakin’ job than these clowns. Fox should be ashamed of itself. If they want to half a$$ their college football coverage they shouldn’t have signed on to this in the first place. Let somebody else do it that will do it right. SEC conference pride is the reason why the SEC team gets the nod for the title game when there is any debate LSU last years, UF this year etc. Any SEC fan should cheer for their conf. as when their team is in a debate for the better bowl they get the nod. I am neither a fan of Florida or Oklahoma. Florida deserves all the credit in the world for being the aggessor defensively. Tim Tebow, who makes me nautious from all the media coverage, is a beast. Just a great, great player. Him and Harvin together are pretty much unstoppable, now on to my point….
As I watched the game, I couldn’t help but question Big Game Bob’s coaching decisions last night. 1st with the game tied at 7, you’re team having snatched the momentum with their 2nd INT, you call 4 straight running plays inside the 10? Why not take the 3 and go up 10-7? Florida had just stopped you 3 times, did you really think another run from the 1 and a half was gonna get it done? You’re team has gotten it’s a* handed to them 4 straight times and you pass up a chance to take the lead? Then to close out the half, Bradford throws a pic to close the door on another scoring opportunity. Iglesias wouldn’t have gotten in the end zone even if he had caught the ball and time would have run out.
Then, to top it all off, you had 4th and 5 from approximately the 34 or 35 yd line, and now you kick the fg??? So Big Game Bob, you wouldn’t take a fg from 2, but you will try it from 50+ yds out? And what happens, it gets blocked… and as we all know, UF seizes the day and go’s on to win the game.
The final score was 24-14, if OU kicks a fg on either one of those first half possessions inside the 10 it’s a different ball game. Florida may very well have won anyway, but bad game management cost OU in this game. Quite calling him Big Game Bob, start calling him Big Choke Bob, cuz he gagged on Urban Meyer’s D!@$k last night.
OU fans don’t have to look any further than their coach to find out why they keep coming up short in their bowl games, because they wasted a hell of a defensive performance by their team. Everyone knew UF would slow OU down. Did anyone really believe that OU would pick off Tebow twice and hold UF to 24 pts? Bob Stoops, you are a TURD!!!!

But what is Georgia’s excuse? The defense was supposed to be a strong point of the team this year and still got shelled on multiple games this year (at least 4) Why couldn’t CWM do anything with this defense?? Strong is a MUCH BETTER DC than CMW. Richt should have gotten John Chavis while he was available!

Don’t get me wrong , congrats to Florida on a very good season. You started off slow but finished strong. You just need to learn how to celebrate with class. Tebow is a great College player but is not the best ever. Tebow didn’t win the MNC by himself. He doesn’t play defense, he doesn’t catch the balls, he doesn’t return kicks. Congrats to the Gators and the entire SEC for preparing Florida for a tough game. Urban Meyer, I don’t like him, but wow what a coach. That is how you get a team ready to play football.
Rankings. Florida is the number 1 team in the land. Utah beat a young Bama team who played a game like many were expecting 3 or 4 times this season. However, it probably would have been a different game with their left tackle. Bama’s only other game without him all year they almost lost to Tulane. Also it is hard for a group of young guys to get up for playing a Utah, Hawaii or Boise after just losing your conf. championship and playing for a national title. Thank goodness UGA didn’t fall into this trap because they could have easily done it.
Tebow. Tebow is a great leader. Tebow is good player on a great team. Without Harvin UF would not have won that game last night. Without Charlie Strong’s defense UF would not have won that game. I doubt UF would have won that game last night without Tebow pushing the team so hard. For that he is one of the best players college football has ever scene. That is exactly what happened to UGA this year. There was not player on the team that stepped up and lit a fire under the players and held the others accountable. You know the players at UGA were looking for a true leader and Stafford while he has the most god given talent of any QB I have ever scene does not have that fire it takes.
CMR!!! Please, Please, Please, listen to the clamoring in the UGA nation. We pride ourselves on defense and defense wins championships. The cap. one bowl was nice as Mich. State should have scored 40 on us but the D stepped up. No more letdowns on the D side of the ball. If it happens again next year you’ve got to let him go. The last three years have not been UGA defense and that goes for last year to when the D played awesome at the end of the season but we do not forget about the middle. Also enough with the no discipline. We are not happy that for the last several years we have turned into FSU and Miami with the police. Whatever it takes coach and this is quite frankly what I am most disappointed in. Recruit leaders that will watch over the team as I totally understand that these are college boys and men but I don’t think the team concept has been alive and well the last couple of years. I personally have a feeling that it was Stafford. He just always seemed like a quite all about me player. I for one will miss the incredible arm but I think it is best he left for the team. David Greene and DJ are prime examples of what I am talking about.

Congrats to UF for winning, but this game was no referendum on SEC superiority. OU and UF looked even and either could’ve won. Came down to a couple of big plays in the last 5 mins and Florida made them. They deserve the win.
But SEC fans should drop the dillusion that this game, or any other, proved some phamtom SEC superiority in defense - or offense. Come on. To make that claim, SEC teams need play decent teams outside the SEC during the regular season, like OSU, USC, OU, etc do. Handing out the tired bromide that the SEC just beats each other up, well it’s tired. The SEC may be the best conference every year - I’m sure they are some years - but nobody knows because they don’t play other conferences. It’s not a contest, if you aren’t in the mix. YOu’re just playing with yourself. And exhibition games - which is all bowl games are (other than the BCS champ game) - aren’t a good picture for conference superiority. One team’s happy to be at the game (Utah/OSU/Ole MS) and the other team (Bama/TX/Tx Tech) got a consolation prize. Not a good way to figure out who’s got the best team, much less the best conference.
It’s time for SEC teams to put down the banjo, paddle up the river, and play conferences across the country during the regular season.

I pulled for Ole Miss & UGA in the Bowls. I’m not sure why I pulled for Ole Miss, but to hell with the rest of em. I’m not a college football fan, nor am I an SEC fan. If they play the Dawgs on a regular basis, I hope they lose.

D-MAN…GET A LIFE!
Mark Richt has won 80% of his games in eight years as head coach for UGA. He was 13-1 in his second year and could’ve easily been in the nat’l title game. UGA finished second in the polls last year and we’ve won two SEC championships and three SEC east division titles since he’s been the coach. Sometimes the ball doesn’t fall your way. Urban Meyer has done a great job, but don’t start slamming a great coach just because he hasn’t won a nat’l title yet and be careful to anoint Nick Saban as the savior to Bama-remember they were 6-6 last year and they lost to Utah for crying out loud. They only won one more game than the dawgs this year and they’re losing their top 2 o-lineman and quarterback. I just wish idiots like you would realize what you’ve got at UGA and stop acting like a horses a* every time something doesn’t go your way. I know plenty of people that would kill for their team to have 10 win seasons.

Here is why I can root for other SEC teams.
THE MEDIA OUTSIDE THE SOUTHEAST. They still give us no respect. If any of you flipped over to ESPN after the game Corso looked like he was about to cry and of course stated that now USC was best in the land by far and how awesome they were for going undefeated. Boy those teams the PAC-10 beat were real impressive. All we heard was how the Boomer offense couldn’t be stopped and how awesome those four Big-12 offenses were. Until Penn St. lost it was just how awesome they were.
Just admit media, the SEC is the best in land and if not for snubbing Auburn we would have had another BCS MNC. Since it’s inception the SEC has won 5 and the next closest is the Big 12 with 2. Even with us dominating the BCS who is clamoring the loudest for a playoff. The SEC because we want to show the country how often you would have all SEC game for the real National Championship.
ESPN rules the college football land and their coverage cannot be touched. Thank goodness they now have the BCS because FOX rules all other sports but my goodness they stink at college football.

As a charter member of the Bulldog Gator Haters, let me say congrats to Fla for winning the BCSCG. Tebow was awesome and the defense was terrific.
Did anyone notice that 7 out of the 10 starting offensive linemen for the two teams were SENIORS? No freshmen on the line for either side. Also, Bama’s OL had three seniors and two juniors. In the SEC, it is extremely difficult to win with young players on the ol and dl.
Hopefully, in two years, when UGAs line has three seniors and two juniors, we can make a run at a title.
One more thing, does anyone think that if Tebow was playing at UGA he could have “willed” a mnc?

SEC vs themselves:
Buddy, you can ignorantly deny the SEC schedule all you want. Take whoever your team is, plug it into one of our team’s schedule’s; then honestly consider how that team does against the SEC and factor in battle injuries and fatigue of doing it week to week, against tough competion. Why don’t you use UF’s from 06’ or LSU’s from 07’.
I don’t care if it’s USC,OU,OSU, or Texas. I gaurantee, they all lose 2 or three games in our league.

It’s not just SEC fans that proclaim the SEC as the toughest and best conference in college football. It’s a concensus among a hell of alot of folks that do football for a living. To not know that the SEC is the premier football conference in America only shows your ignorance of the game in general. No other team in any other conference in this land would dominate on a year to year basis. And that includes USC, whoever. And whether you want to believe it or not, the SEC’s dominance in the upper tier bowls proves it. Furthermore, the ACC Champion or any other team in that league for that matter would be mid tier in the SEC. Vandy took one of them to the woodshed and LSU just mortally made fools of GT and Paul Johnson, and Ole Miss beat the hell out of Texas Tech. And now that you’re on this bent SECvsThemselves, give us a scenario where any teams in any other conference plays top teams from another conference in any greater degree them does the SEC.
By senoiadawgs

SECvsThemselves, please get real and look at some facts. Ok, why not check the schedules this year of the SEC top four and lets check the schedule of the mighty Big12 top four. We know nothing going into bowl season about the Big12 top four and I mean nothing. After bowl season we know a lot. The fourth or fifth best SEC team lays the wood to the 3rd best Big12 team that was suppose to be unstoppable.
Sec top four out of conf. bowl teams or traditionally good teams played: Miami, FSU, Georgia Tech, Arizona State, Clemson, Central Michigan, Memphis Wake Forest
Big 12 top four out of con. bowl teams or traditionally good team played: Rice, Cincinnati, TCU, Nevada, Houston
Quite frankly until some teams can knock off a motivated SEC team in a bowl game or National Championship game they can play whoever they like. The SEC has already proved it is the best. With that said I would like to see each team at lest schedule one tough out of conference game every year.

From a Gator Fan Congratulations Florida Gators!!!!!!! what you have accomplished is amazing and speaks volumes for our school, our coaches as well as the SEC we represent.
As Florida fans we should show class in victory as well as defeat, nothing is gained by being obnoxious or spiteful. Keep it respectful.
To Utah, yes you were undefeated and for that you deserve recognition, we give you that. However as far as deserving to be ranked number one look at your strength of schedule and you will see the difference.
Yes we lost to Ole Miss but look where they ended up, they will be a team to be reckoned with now that they have a good coach and good quarterback. That team will give other schools fits in the future.
Yes we played the Citadel but look at our schedule week in and week out in this conference and realize SEC schools play some of the hardest schedules in the nation. Weber State and the other teams you schedule are not of the same caliber. Given you did win over Alabama…….but look at Michigan and Appalachia….any given team on any given day.
Get your strength of schedule up there and then you will get the recognition you are looking for.
Georgia fans CMR is a good coach, don’t be so down on him and believe he has your best interests at heart, look at your recruiting class coming in and give it a year. This season Stafford and Moreno tried to carry the load themselves but football is a team effort. I think Cox knows this and Bobo has learned it, let’s see what happens next year with a different mindset.
That said….it’s GREAT TO BE A FLORIDA GATOR !!!!!!!!! and I am looking forward to next year.

No Axe to Grind
You and the USC Trojans have not heard of Utah? Let me introduce you. They play in the Mountain West Conference, which is just on the other side of the Rockies from your little Pac-10 conference. Their conference has dominated yours the past 2 seasons in head-to-head match-ups, every computer rating service in the country ranks the MWC as a better football conference than the Pac-10.
You may also remember that Oregon State team that beat the Trojans and effectively ended your season? Yeah, that Oregon State team. Well, Utah beat them, too.
I hope that refreshes your memory, smart mouth.

Not only a 3peat but the last 4 out of 6 went to the S.E.C.! To all the ones that felt they couldn’t pull for our S.E.C. conference in the big game, shame on you. LSU hates UF as much as everyone else but it’s like a sister-brother thing. We can pick on others in our conference during the regular season, but we pull together when one from our conference can only make us look stronger. The S.E.C. had more teams in bowl games than any other conference and in the last 6 years, LSU and UF have won two crystal footballs, but for all other teams in the conference, it’s a win for them too. At least the so called King of college football, USC, has gotten knocked around quite a bit. They are the new Notre Dame. So not only GEAUX LSU TIGERS - GEAUX S.E.C.! Bottom line is a true fan would want their conference to REPRESENT and we did fairly well this year representing at all of the bowl games!

One other thing…it is a shame that there is no “Coach of the Game” award. Charlie Strong would have won it “hands down” in my opinion. Someday a major school is finally going to realize this is the 21st century and make him the Head Coaching job he should have had five years ago.

Who said that America loves a winner and wont tolerate a loser? General George Patton! Well, losing is hateful to me especially when you have top talent except for coaching. I am glad to see Stafford leave. College quarter backs who are just pocket quarterbacks are a handicap. Those teams who have quarterbacks that are a threat to run are simply the winners. Another point is that defense wins championships. UGA does not have the coaching for this level. You may love CMR because you “stand by your man” but that does not change the facts. FIRE MATINEZ!

At last, a game that should dispel the myth of SEC superiority. Florida lost one conference game, and absolutely destroyed everyone else in that conference. Unless you were watching a different game than I was last night, they did not do the same to OU that they did to SEC teams. Yes, they won the game, but it was obviously not a mis-match like their conference games were.
OU lost one conference game and destroyed everyone else in the big 12.
SC lost one conference game and destroyed everyone else in the Pac 10.
Hmm…I sense a pattern here. Seems to me all these conferences have one or two good teams and the rest are average or below. If FL smokes their conference opponents and SC does the same, why is it that FL “has a war” week in and week out, while SC “plays a creampuff schedule in the ‘Slack 10’”, as all you like to say?

Kind of see where some of my animosity is coming from?

For those who do not want to cheer for the SEC because there is nothing to be gained for UGA by cheering for UF, I guess President Adams will refuse the additional monies from the SEC victories that are distributed equally among the conference members. “No, no. We don’t want any of the extra money from Florida’s MNC.”
I don’t need to rub in a Gator victory, but could some of the Dawgs not be so bitter? And life is too short to continue bringing up Herschel Walker all the time. Even South Carolina has shut up about Lou Holtz.

steve-o: Did you not read my post? I am not saying that the SEC doesn’t play good football. I’m just saying that week end and week out, having to play Kentucky, Mississippi State, arkansas, etc., is just as much a cupcake schedule as having to play Arizona State, Oregon State and Stanford.
The names sound funny to you, and you don’t equate them with great football. Well, neither does the fan on the West Coast equate those other teams with great football. The only reason you do is because you live here, follow the conference, and are familiar with the teams. All major BCS conferences have schools with sizable athletic department budgets that recruit the top players in their area. Do you honestly believe that because an athelete was born in this area he can automatically run faster, jump higher than others? To hear you tell it, the NFL should probably be stocked only with SEC players.
FL would do to the big 12 the same thing OU would do to the SEC if they swapped conferences.

SEC could beat God - don’t try to reason with SEC fans. This conference is all they’ve got. It’s important for them to say they’ve had the best conference forever and ever. And they mean forever!! And it will last forever! It will last as long as rivers run toward the ocean! No doubt in their minds.
The rest of the country knows the SEC’s good. But just like you said, FL blew out all but 1 of their SEC opponents this year. And they didn’t do that to OU, by any stretch. And OU blew out all their Big 12 opponents except for TX. USC did the same in their conference. So instead of seeing that conferences have a 1-2 powerhouses and the rest go up and down, how do SEC fans come up with the “ALL SEC teams are better than any other team in the nation and have been forever!” theory? Years of inbreeding.
You gotta let it go and step away from the banjo boys. Remember Deliverance and be afraid.

Just wait till Kiffin and company start taking recruits away from OK, Texas, Big Ten and ACC teams.. SEC will be even stronger.
You cant count out LSU for long either. Arkansas, Ole Miss and even Kentucky and Vanderbilt are able to win bowl games cause bowl games are easier then any other conference team can put out.
