Can the Georgia defense play “Assignment Football?”

Like you, we’re going to take Thanksgiving off to enjoy some time with family before we head into what is going to be a wild finish to this college football season. So today I’m going to do my Five Burning Questions as we head into the weekend:

1. Will the Georgia defense have enough discipline to play “assignment football” against Tech? During his time at Navy, Georgia Coach Paul Johnson had to figure out ways for smaller, slower players to get an advantage over bigger, faster players. One of the ways you do that on offense is by forcing the defense to play “assignment football.” Johnson’s offense is run with such precision that every member of the defense has to carry out his assignment on every play. If a defender tries to free lance and create a play outside of his assignment, it creates an opening for a big play. In short, Johnson has figured out a way to use the superior talent of an opposing defense AGAINST them. Georgia has been an undisciplined team at times on defense this season. Next to Florida, this will be their toughest challenge of the season for the Georgia defense.

2. Can Virginia help Georgia Tech get to the ACC championship game? If Virginia Tech loses to Virginia in Blacksburg then Georgia Tech will go to the ACC championship game. It’s not going to happen and here’s why. Hokies’ coach Frank Beamer has made up his mind to be very conservative in Saturday’s game. He has the nation’s No. 8 defense and the 109th offense. Virginia Tech turned the ball over five times in its first six possessions last week and had to fight to beat Duke. This will be a ugly game and Beamer usually finds a way to win ugly games.

3. Why isn’t Charlie Strong being mentioned for some of these head coaching jobs? The Florida defensive coordinator has done some of his very best work this season. In 2006 his defense was the anchor than enabled the Gators to win the national championship. Last season the defense was a liability because the Gators were so young. Now Florida is knocking on the door of another national title because this defense has gotten better each week and is now a strength on this team again. Florida is third in the nation in scoring defense (12. 0 ppg). The first team defense has not given up a touchdown since the LSU game on Oct. 11. Yes, Charlie is an African-American and that brings with it a set of issues that we have to discuss because there are now only four minority head coaches among 119 Division I-A schools. But the fact is that Charlie Strong is a damn good football coach and deserves a shot to be a head coach.

4. Is Les Miles going to be feeling some heat after this season? LSU looked pretty lost last week against Ole Miss. The Tigers should have enough athletes to beat Arkansas on Friday in Little Rock because the Hogs’ defense is so bad (No. 95 in scoring, 31.3 ppg). A win puts LSU at 8-4 and probably headed to the Chick-fil-A Bowl. The issue is going to be raised, fairly or not, that this was the first season that LSU had played without any of Nick Saban’s players. One year after winning the national championship, does Miles begin the 2009 season under some pressure? The LSU fans have gotten a little spoiled after the past four seasons, which includes 41 wins. How do they react? Do they follow LSU to the bowl game?

5. Does Auburn have any shot in Saturday’s game against Alabama? Auburn has beaten Alabama six straight times but in that stretch the Tigers of Tommy Tuberville have not faced an Alabama defense this good with an Auburn offense that is so bad. Tuberville has won a bunch of games like this by running the ball, playing very conservatively, and trying to keep the game close into the fourth quarter. Then he believes the other guy will make a mistake or his team will put together one drive to win the game. The problem in this game is that Alabama is not going to let Auburn run the ball. The Crimson Tide has the nation’s No. 3 rushing defense (75.1 ypg). They will force Auburn to throw and that could get ugly.

  1. No.

  2. No.

  3. He will get a HC’g job because he is a good coach. Florida’s defense was a big question mark for them going into this season. He shouldn’t get a HC’g job simply because he’s black.

  4. Yes.

  5. Yes, the same shot each of us have to win the Mega Millions lottery drawing twice a week.

My prediction is Dwyer gets 150 on the Dawgs and Tech wins 21-17. Auburn and Bama are close in the 3rd but Bama wins 24-17. Florida drills FSU by 35. Can we fast forward to signing day and Spring practice?

I think Bama will hang half a hundred on Auburn in Saturday’s Iron Bowl and then it will be off to Atlanta to face off with the Gators for the chance to represent the SEC in the national championship game.

My question is how has tech lost 3 games this year? And how did Gardner Web manage to contain them? And why aren’t they playing for the National Championship? And why aren’t there any ACC teams in the top 15? And why aren’t there any ACC teams with less than 3 losses?

I see this game as a barn burner. Tech will get its points and so will Georgia. But the Dogs are home for the first time in 5 weeks, and the last time for seniors, so I see it UGA 41-35. Go Dogs… and thanks for another great season!

Hey, here’s an idea! Georgia should play it’s JV team against tech. Or maybe the cheerleaders. That way PJ couldn’t use their talent level against them.

That’s why gardner web did so good against tech. Inferior talent.

Call it wishful thinking, but there is something strange about the AU-UA game this year with Bama a heavy favorite.

Although Saban will try to keep his team focused and the Tide looks for revenge for six straight losses to Auburn, young players will be young players.

Alabama has not really stumbled all year, and it’s the perfect setting for that to happen as Florida awaits on the horizon - an upset over a very good Alabama team and Teflon Tubs pushes the critics to the side for another year…

Also, do not overlook the “old man” at FSU writing one more headline when the Gators come to town.

Again, the perfect setting(s) for upsets and the SEC is left holding the bag as the Big 12 champ plays USC for the title…maybe wishful thinking for the Tigers and lucky number 7 (in a row)…War Eagle!

I’ve been advocating Charlie Strong since he was with Spurrier. He’s ultra consistant and has great recruiting ability. Though to answer a question for you Barnhart…you might want to look up Bama’s defenses for the past six wins. Two came in ranked number 1 in the country and yet Auburn found a way to win. Number 3 is good but they have been better when Joe Kines was coaching them.

If we can elect Barak Obama president, then Charlie Strong can be the head man on Rocky Top or at Clemmons College. That said, I’m glad Tech passed on him and hired Paul Johnson.

You know what’s funny? Either Nebraska (and there was fan support for it) or Michigan could have hired Johnson and they didn’t. What fools! Thank God for fools.

Go Jackets!

I think UGA’s defense steps up early, but perhaps falters later in the game. Conversely, I think our offense will begin slow & step it up during the 2nd half. The Dawgs will need a turnover or two, but should win.

Strong’s a decent DC, but let’s not overhype the guy. He has the luxury of a squad full of 4, 5 star recruits. I’m sure he’ll land a HC gig (if for purposes of affirmative action alone).

Miles did indeed utilize Saban’s recruits to bolster his success. We are probably seeing some “falling off”, but LSU should be back in contention for the West next year.

AU has a better chance of beating Bama than FSU does against UF. However, I think both UF & Bama win.

Happy Thanksgiving & GO DAWGS!!

I think Tech gets 250 yards rushing in this game at a bare minimum but still loses. They are going to eat up some yards. There is no doubt about it. You don’t “stop” their offense. But if you keep the big plays to a minimum and keep them honest in the red zone you’ll be alright. This offense isn’t the otherworldly unstoppable force that the media is hyping it up to be.

Awbarn saves their season with an upset win the break the Tides heart.

Dwyer will sit again in the 4th quarter after 150 yards and 3 TD’s.

The difference between Dwyer and Noshow is the coach pulls Dwyer out, and Noshow pulls himself out.

Jackets roll. CPJ cements his 2nd Coach of the Year award and declares there’s a new Sheriff in Town!!! (fleabags already know it, but this makes it official).

VT vs. UVA…I’m taking VT because if UVA wins the Jackets lose and back into the ACC Championship, and that would be bad.

No, Tony, UGA doesn’t stand a chance against the GT juggernaut. In fact, why even play the game. After all, we’re only 9-2 with a 7 game winning streak against the Jackets. Why run the risk of injury? Just throw in the towel and give the game to Tech. Geez, with insightful articles like this, it’s no small wonder the AJC is losing subscribers by the boatload.

TigerFan3333….Are you speakign of the same freshmen who had hardly played like freshmen all year.

This game is the perfect set up for Alabama. AU is going to have to run the ball to score and BAMA has the #3 rush defenses in the country. BAMA will force Burns to win the game and if you have watched Cody play this year, this is not very realistic. On D, AU is good but they have worn down over the season. BAMA’s OL will provide the same lead in the rushing game as we did against UGA and JPW will be able to set up the pass and be successful. AU’s DB’s are average at best and they will have to double up Julio of they want to keep him down. That will leave opportunities for Washington, McCoy and Maze who have all had good years!!

In the end, BAMA not only covers but this game will look much like the MSU-BAMA game. 38-10 is my guess!!!

Puppies, keep telling yourself everything is going to be ok on Saturday bc of Gardner Webb and Tech’s 3 losses. You’re right, if Tech has to play its 4th string qb again like it did against gardner webb, the pups will win. And if Tech turns the ball over 3 times like it did in its 3 losses, pups will win. SEC is most overrated conference. Wake beat Ole Miss (yes, the same Ole Miss team that beat the unbeatable gators and the same Ole Miss team that is the second best team in the SEC west and almost beat Alabama). UF and UA should send puppy fans a nice xmas gift for making their teams look so good on national tv by blowing out uga. Those are UF and UA “signature” wins. What a joke.

Ramble On, you left out Jay Bookman.

Look, I don’t doubt for a minute that Tech could run big on UGA, it’s just the article - and others - seem to have written the dogs out of this game.

As far as you callin me a logical flea bag, I’ll take that as a compliment. This has been a trying season to be a Dog fan. I didn’t go in with the highest expectations (undefeated and winning the NC), but I did like our chances going in to every game when the season began. As the season progressed (especially after the Bama beatdown), my thoughts about liking our chances were diminished. I love the Dogs and I’ll take our record (hopefully 10-2 after Saturday) with no apologies, but let’s be realistic - we haven’t beaten anyone presently ranked in the top 20. This being the case, I do believe GT will be our toughest opponent outside of our 2 losses. I like our chances against Tech, but nothing this group of Dogs does surprises me.

I’ll support my team, win or lose, but it’s been a tough season.

My sense is that as good as Alabama is this year that this is Auburn’s last best chance to beat Alabama for years to come because Bama is going to be better next year and in years to come. Auburn is on a rapid decline and will not be able to compete with them for a number of years. I still think Bama puts the beat down on them this year as well.

By Tech Fan in UGA Country

November 26, 2008 11:00 AM | Link to this

Maddog, Congratulations. Your last post was one of the most reasonable posts regarding this game. I agree. I know UGA still has more talent on the field than GT, but at least we go into this game with a coach that can put us in a position to have a real shot at winning. I recognize that it is possible that if UGA is clicking on all cylinders, this could be a blow-out again. UGA’s skilled players are truly unbelievable. With an extra week off, the UGA coaches may be able to coach up the defense to stop the GT offense. If UGA had not had an off week, I would feel much better about our chances. But with all that, if GT plays smart and does not turn the ball over, we can pull the upset. It may in fact come down to whichever team turns the ball over less will win.

Tony, You more than most should know that being a great coordinator does not equate to being a great head coach. I don’t think Strong is not getting his shot because he is black. Something is missing with him and I don’t mean white skin. In this day and age if ADs thought he could run a program, including hiring good assistants, they wouldn’t care what color he is. Who’s gonna cover Green? Who’s gonna cover MoMass? And if you do, who’s gonna stop Moreno? It’s gonna be cute watching your little gimmick offense (which ran its course at big schools in the 80’s and 90’s) trying to forge a comeback from an early 14 point deficit.

assignment football? our players don’t even know where to line up on defense. TWO florida TDs were given to them because people didn’t line up in the right spots.

tackling? look at the auburn tape to see some of the finest examples of poor tackling in america.

folks, the dawgs are going to get hammered on saturday.

tech will smack us in the face, repeatedly, and like every other game this year that we can’t win on talent and gameplan alone, we will panic and quit.

in addition, j. wynn will have some boneheaded penalty at a crucial moment in the game that allows tech to go up big.

a reciever will fumble a pass or not run a route correctly and this will also lead to more tech points.

tech will put their scrubs on the field and we will panic, start throwing the ball every down and try to come back late in the game and score a flurry of points.

but at some crucial point when we need to stop them on defense, we will allow them to march down the field at will and drive the nail in our coffin.

how can i predict this….i have been watching mark richt football for the last 7 years. this is basically the “gameplan” for most of our losses in the richt era.

i don’t think we are man enough to beat these boys….they want it, and have a coach who will be an a** in order to get his players to win games. plus, they have been looking forward to this all season. (deja vu jacksonville.)

we pretty much have our bowl game locked up…we will phone this one in, and then hear the usual excuses about great gameplan by the coaches but lack of execution by the players.

can’t wait for this season to be over so we can enjoy another year of excuses from our basketball program as well.

Tony, are you REALLY as stupid as you come across? Of course, if you look at your preseason Top 25 versus the reality of now, you will see that you have NO ability to predict ANYTHING accurately. Ugag was, and is the most overrated team in history and they most likely are going to get the crap stomped out of them Saturday. Secondly, Va Tech is very beatable and if the Virginia team that came into GA TECH shows up in Blacksburg, then the real TECH will be going to Tampa. Finally, Tony, does it ever bother you how completely wrong you are on most things, and how often you are wrong…just wondering? And, as always, thank God and Greyhound that the worst coach in the history of the world is gone forever as ugag is about to find out.

  1. They can. But the better question is “will they?”

  2. Probably not. But the driver’s seat in either ACC division has been the kiss of death ths year. As has the #1 spot in Heather Dinisch’s (sp) ACC power rankings, which GT currently holds.

  3. He not be mentioned as much now, but he will be soon, if not this year then the next. The candidates we have been hearing mentioned at some of the schools have been grapevine material. Who knows what any of these schools are thinking right now. We should know more after the final games are played before the bowls.

  4. He probably will a litte, not that he should. If he goes 8-4 next year, he definitely should and will. In fact, it may be more than a “little” pressure if he loses 4 games next year.

  5. They do have a shot. They may be in their heads a little and you can throw the records out the window when Bama and Auburn play. However, a shot is al they have. Like someone said earlier, Auburn has to know it’s coming this year.

Tech’s offense is not that different than the Single Wing run in the 1940’s and 1950’s. Defenses figured out how to stop it and it was junked for the pro set.

In the 1960’s the Wishbone became the rage, but again defenses figured it out and it is gone. In the 1970’s the Veer was popular, only to disappear in a few years. Johnson’s offense will be gone soon and so will he.

I would much rather have a coach who runs a balanced offense where the run sets up the pass, and where the pass sets up the run. Coach Richt has won 81 games in less than 8 full seasons and if the Dawgs come through on Saturday and in the bowl game he will be 83-20 in 8 years.

Tech could only dream of a coach that good. I will take Coach Richt any day of the week and he reminds me of Coach Dooley in one other respect.

Coach Dooley almost only lost to teams with superior field talent. There were only a handful of exceptions when a Georgia Dooley team was not prepared to play a team of lesser talent and got beat.

The 1979 Wake Forest game, the Miami of Ohio Citrus bowl, the Stanford Bluebonnet Bowl and the two Sugar Bowls against Arkansas are 5 of maybe 10 exceptions over 25 years that come to mind.

Coach Richt is thus far a better coach than Coach Dooley was (and I loved Coach Dooley as Georgia’s coach). He has had only loses to teams with superior talent (like Alabama and Florida this year) and beats the teams that he should.

He gets his teams ready and he will beat Tech Saturday. Tech plays a weak schedule and has not played a team as good as Georgia all year. Tech will fold under the pressure and Coach Richt will have a few surprises for Tech.

BTW, Georgia’s defense is much stronger than folks realize. We could have lost the Kentucky and Auburn games due to offense miscues and special teams errors that put the defense in bad situations, just as they did in the Alabama and Florida games. The defense has been much better than people realize.

Your defense is horrible, they look confused half the time out there, forget about execution.

November 26, 2008 1:29 PM | Link to this

To all the Alabama and Florida fans who have repeatedly called Georgia a weak team….if that’s really the case, then exactly who have YOUR teams beaten that warrant your positions in the poll? Clemson?? Miami??? Doesn’t Georgia have the 3rd best record in the SEC? To the rest of the country outside the SUC, I mean SEC, the ONLY reason Alabama and Florida are ranked so high is because of their performance against Georgia. I’m betting even Georgia Tech beats Georgia this weekend. Your pathethic conference can’t even use LSWho to boost your self proclaimed superiority. Have fun beating two more sorry teams this Saturday and then beating each other in your conference “championship” game. It’s looking pretty good that both of you will have to face a team outside the South to prove your worth…..and the reality is the SEC will be lucky to win 1 bowl game this year.

I tell you what … here is how the game will go.

We’ll start with the national anthem. That will be a time when we can set aside our differences between white and gold, and red and black, and stand together as one under the red, white, and blue. ‘Cause when it comes down to it … that’s what it’s all about!

Man, we’re gonna be sittin there at the game … we’re gonna have blue sky, green grass, cold beer, good friends, and good football. Man, I tell you what, it DOES NOT GET any better than that!

I tell you what, when those Yellow Jackets and Bulldogs take the field at Sanford Stadium between the storied hedges, it’s gonna be nothin but heart and soul poured out. Man, at the end of that game, we’ll all see that everyone just left it all out on the field.

I can see it now … at the end of the game, everyone’s gonna be sayin’, “Man, I tell you what, it’s a shame we can’t have two winners. The fact that one of these teams has to go home a loser is just terrible.”

I see shades of Brad Chambers kicking the game-winning field goal in ‘98, Tech fans messing up the sacred bushes on the field. (Yes, they are nothing but bushes, people!) Having a UGA fan yell at me “OH THAT’S REAL CLASS THERE!” even though I wasn’t the one tearing up the bushes.

Tech needs to get 2-3 scores ahead of Georgia early to win, because the Jackets will turn the ball over at least twice, and Georgia always make you pay for mistakes. I just have a feeling that UGA doesn’t want this game much…they looked like they were mailing it in against 2 weak teams (Auburn & KY) in recent weeks. The Jackets D-line better be unstoppable, because we have no one who can cover MoMa or Green.

THe invite sounds tempting, I’ll pass. By the way with the new collective bargaining agreement fixing to go through with the NFL, Mutt Stafford would have to be a complete idiot not to go this year. Next year he’ll only get about 40% of the money he would have got this year with the rookie cap they are going to put in effect. To Bee Band Wagon.

Your comments don’t sound so funny when you add facts to them

Fact - Tech’s offense was controlled by Gardner Webb because not one both both the top two QB’s were injured and unavailable. I can run faster than Tech’s 3rd String QB. Try running an option offense with a QB that can’t run.

Fact - Tech lost two of their three losses simply due to turnovers. The VA and NC losses involved multiple turnovers that simply did not allow Tech to have a shot.

Now you’ve taken your lame shots. Here are some questions for you?

  1. Wasn’t UGA ranked #1 when the season started.
  2. What quality teams did UGA beat? LSU, really ask Mississippi about that! Auburn? KY?, VANDY? Ariz. State?

  3. Is UGA suppose to beat Tech? Well they were suppose to win the SEC, win the National Championship, beat FL?, beat AL? so what happened?

I would like to think that Georgia’s 3rd or 4th string QB could handle Gardner Web. I can’t believe that Gardner Web made it onto GT’s schedule. That is an embarrassment. The “G” stands for Georgia, you big dummy!

I believe there is more excitement, and more at stake, with this year’s UGA-GT game. I like our chances, but it could go either way.

For what it’s worth, I’ll put my two cents worth in about who is our biggest rivalry. It has been, and will always be, Georgia Tech. It’s easy to say they’re not our biggest rivalry when we have won 7 straight, but think back to when we lost 3 straight to GT. It left a bad taste in my mouth and I was relieved when we finally turned things around.

It has been speculated that Jim Donnan and Chan Gailey were “run out” of their coaching positions because of their inability to win over their rivals. Face it fellow UGA fans, we have a lousy record over the past 19 years against Florida, yet no one talks about getting rid of a coach because we can’t regularly beat UF. No telling how many coaches we would have gone through had we won only 3 games against Tech over a 19 year period. It’s great to hold a series advantage over some college, but this IS our biggest game and I’m hoping for 8 straight to tie Tech’s longest winning streak in the series.

When your first two quarterbacks are injured and how you have use your third and fourth string guys who aren’t option style quarterbacks, you have to really vanilla up the playbook. They ran basically five plays over and over. Do you understand that? You are a UGA grad aren’t you beebandwagon? I’m assuming so since your going to be staying at a classy joint like the Days Inn in Athens all weekend. You couldn’t afford that if you didn’t have that hands on job that you do have.

I’m tired of Tech fans trying to talk themselves up for this game. The fact is Tech is good team not a great team. They blow out one team and now their offense is unstoppable. They are playing in an average conference against average teams. The talent level that Georgia will have is much higher than Tech has faced all year. We have had two weeks to prepare and it’s Senior day. Gardner Webb held Tech to 10 points and North Carolina demolished Tech 28-7. The same Carolina Team that just got blasted by a 4-6 N.C. State team. They will have to show me to make me a believer this week. Georgia wins 38-21. Eight in a roll. Enough said!

It’s just not there so slow down when you’re reading. I could care less about Tech playing GW. You won, that’s all that matters. After Saturday’s game, who will say (or care) squat about who Tech or Georgia beat during the season. We both - as well as most D1 colleges - played teams that aren’t up to our caliber. It’s a moot point. Better to be criticised for WINNING against GW than LOSING to GW.

Tony:

Your recent column about a lack of collegiate black head football coaches didn’t state that most blacks who have been head coaches have not won. In fact, check their records—most have lost big-time. And it can’t rightfully be said they haven’t had good jobs, considering they’ve had head posts at Oklahoma , Notre Dame, UCLA, etc. that white coaches have made the most of. If a black is qualified for a job, he should be hired. If he’s not, he shouldn’t be hired just because he’s black as your column seems to contend. That’s racism of the worst kind. The NFL requiring teams to interview minority candidates— even if they’re not qualified— is not only another example of racism, but it should be illegal. And black coaches should get fired just like the white coaches do if they don’t win. That should have been in your column too. Every year, sports journalists like yourself start the baloney that there aren’t enough black head coaches. Rarely does anyone read or hear about the good white coaches being passed over for jobs. Many commentators and columnists like to state they’re not enough black coaches, yet they always fail to state that only a few who have been head coaches have been successful.

OL, beebandwagon, read this very slowly and thoroughly. There will be a test later.

In the Gardner Webb game Tech played Calvin Booker, it’s (now) 4th string QB.

Now listen closely….

Calvin is not an option QB. Calvin is a pocket-passer. Asking Calvin to run this option is like asking you to make sense - no way it’s going to happen with any regularity. He’s just not physically suited to do it, just like you’re not mentally suited to make sense.

So Tech reduced the playbook for Calvin to 5 plays in the GW game. I think any moron, even Willie Martinez, could actually figure out this option if he was facing Calvin Booker and only 5 plays to concentrate on.

Just keep believing that what you saw in the GW game is reflective of what you’ll see Saturday.

Please believe it…please…oh please!

Easily the best game of the day will be the dawgs vs the jackets. I’m saying UGA wins a shootout. Tech will certainly run up some yardage but I think they have 1 or 2 big turnovers that UGA converts. Plus I don’t think Tech can really slow down Stafford, Moreno, and AJ Green. Moreno goes for 150 even though Tech probably runs for 300. Dawgs win 38-31.

Bama-Auburn. 6 years of frustration come to a fitting end. This is going to be a viscious beatdown. The score probably won’t be that bad but the physical beating will. 30-7 the tide rolls.

To Auburn fans: You had a great run. Its over and your program is pretty much done with. Saban is thrashing you on the recruiting trail and its you are about to be relegated to the dustbin of football history in future years. Saban ran Tommy Bowden out of a job. Then he ran Fat Phil out of a job. Next he runs Tubbs out of a job this year or next year at the latest. Then he runs the mad hatter down at LSwho out of a job in 1 or 2 years. Its obvious that the hatter can’t win now that all of that talent that Saban built is gone. Must have been nice having 17 of his 22 starters on last year’s nc team be Saban recruits.

Fla. vs Fla. State. The noles put up a fight but the gators just got too much clicking for them to lose this one.

UVA vs Va. Tech. No offense to GA. Tech fans but other than the jackets who really cares? 2 average teams where one will find a way to lose.

Hey Pres,

You GT fans are the ones making GT out to be a real football program. If they have to block a FG on the last play of the game to beat Gardner Webb, then nothing else really needs to be said about that, right? Who was playing QB against Virginia?

Blackhawk- You’ve got me confused with someone else on the fist fighting. Sorry to disappoint you. If you only knew. My wife is Colombian- enough said. I own the company I work for. I can handle a few recessions. That doesn’t change the fact that Gardner Webb got beaten by Coastal Corlina, does it?

If our DL is able to put pressure on Stafford,Ga will go to their bread & butter screen to Moreno. We had better be waiting to bust it up. He can be bad news in the open.

I read something interesting from a recruiting scout regarding the different directions of the Auburn-Bama programs.

Auburn has 25 committments already and an Auburn fan asked how many of Auburn’s committs would stick if Tubberville was gone after the season.

The interesting answer is that they would virtually all stick with their committment. Why? Because of the 25 recruits 20 of them didn’t have an offer from another sec school. If they had other offers at all they were from programs like UAB, Troy, Central Florida, Duke, etc. You get the picture. I looked it up on the 2 main recruiting sites Rivals and Scout and sure enough its true. They do legitimately have about 5 out of 25 that are SEC caliber players though but that’s about it.

Saban owns the state now and Richt has virtually shut them out of Georgia. They get the leftovers in Fla. also after Fla, FSU, Miami and everyone else bigger than Auburn has had their picks.

Just something for Auburn fans to think about when they’re watching Auburn get dominated Saturday. They can ponder the implications of their recruiting or lack thereof and what that’s gonna translate to on the field in future years. Stick a fork in Auburn. You’re done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man big rivalry games, I miss those. Well, we still play ND this week and UCLA a week later, but the games have lost the shine they once had.

Norte Dame isn’t the team they use to be. They will get up for this game, and nothings impossible but man the games in the past were great.

UCLA, cross town rivals, maybe the only real cross town rivalry in the NCAA Div 1A, as opposed to state rivals. You can drive from 1 home field to the other in less than 20 minutes, but again, UCLA is not what they were.

I guess we’ll just have to settle for our 7th consecutive Conference title, and BCS Bowl, and 11 win season. O’well.

Dawgs will not be intimidated by the triple fumble offense. They want 11 wins….real bad. Tech is surely narrowing the gap between the 2 programs but……nada gone happen this year, dudes. Trust me, Martinez is a little tired of the criticism of his troups…they will rise to the nerd occasion. Richt is still salivating over the geeky gooseegg against him….something like 20-0 dating back through the FSU years. G 34 GT 17

We are USC, I’m looking forward to ya’ll having to play any BCS game against someone other than a Big Ten team!Thats been 4 of the 5 BCS wins you are so proud of!After this year you will be 1 out of 3 in BCS games verses someone other than the Big Ten patsies you usually get to play.11 win season?Oh,yeah that tough pac 10 scedule,I’m sure glad that yall had to play that 7 loss Stanford team that beat you.and that 6 loss UCLA team lets not forget them either. We are USC what a joke!!!!!!!!

hey ES,

Chill out on ragging USC. After all they are a record breaking team. Shucks they broke an alltime record of biggest upset by losing to a team that they were 41 point favorites over. Just another distinguished record by the Trojans. And you really should give the pac 10 a lot more credit. They have USC in the top 10 and they have um, well, ummm, gee, mmmmmh, I think they have somebody else in the top 25. Well, I may just be wrong. But I guarantee the pac 10 has at least 10 times in the top 119. Oh, wait a minute. There are only 119 teams. But I digress. The apple cup championship between wazzu and washington at least decided who is number 118 and who is number 119. The pac 10 RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By sec rules pac 10

Hey we are USC,

Let us not forget also. The pac 10 is either 0-5 or 0-6 against the non bcs conference known as the Mountain West. I believe last year the Mountain West was also either 4-1 or 5-1 against the Pac10. I think its only logical that we expel the Pac10 as a bcs conference and now include the Mountain West conference as a bcs member. This is only fair. How is it not?

Just read the press release on the Gardner Webb athletic site:

Jonathon Dwyer held to 27 yards on 16 carries.

Gardner Webb outgained teck by 50 yards in the fourth quarter.

Tech blocked Gardner Webb’s game tying field goal attempt with 9 seconds left.

Gardner Webb’s first game against a FBS school.

Who gives a rat’s azz about who wins the acc? It will just be another sacrificial lamb offered up by the acc for other conferences. acc runs their BCS record to 1-10 (if they actually get an invite).

Dear AJC Sports Desk and Tony Barnhart, who spent two years at Georgia Southern, I believe, and should know better: What is wrong with the following sentence?

During his time at Navy, Georgia Coach Paul Johnson had to figure out ways for smaller, slower players to get an advantage over bigger, faster players.

Shouldn’t take long to figure out, lads (and lasses, should there be distaff members of the desk). Have a good Thanksgiving.

UGA will win in a close one against Tech, hopefully UVA wins and Tech is in.I am not racists in this statement, but check the stats, I respect CCS in his success at Florida, but black coaches in the NCAA have a under >550 PCT in winning and lack HC experience going into the job.I wish him the best if opportunity occurs. Bama will win against Auburn and SEC is being re-evaluated…enter Ole Miss, Bama, KY and SC. Auburn Tenn, LSU and UGA could be slackers??

sec rules pac 10:

We may be 1-5 not 0-6 against the MWC this season. But we are 10-6 against the SEC since 2000, 1-1 this season, and USC has won the last 4 against SEC opponents. I know that may not fit nicely into your misconceptions but those are the stats, NO the SEC does not rule the PAC 10. That is just true.

ES:

The Trojans have averaged the #14 SOS over the past 7 seasons, #1 in 2002 and #8 or better in 4 other years. No team is college football has a better record during that period, and no team has a better averge final ranking, check the records. So rather than regurgitate dribble you have read, check the record.

If you add the margins of all the loses USC has over the past 7 years UGA lost by more to Florida. USC has not lost by more than 7 points since 2001.

I didn’t disrespect anyone in my posts, I was respectful and wished everyone good luck, and if you were offended by something SO WHAT. Why be such a PR!CK.
