Dawgs edge Gators; ‘Noles nip Tech
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Jacksonville—I’ve said for a long time that the fans of Georgia and Florida really want one thing out of a college football season: To arrive in Jacksonville each year with a lot still on the line. Well, both sets of fans should be happy today. They have rolled into town with EVERYTHING still on the line. My friend Pat Dooley of the Gainesville Sun said it is the biggest Georgia-Florida game ever. It well could be.
The most important thing that will happen today, however, is that the fans of both teams will fill up the golf courses and restaurants.
It is weekends like this that I really miss our friend Lewis Grizzard. He would really be enjoying this.
With your permission, I will file this humble edition of the Fearless Friday Forecast and rush off join a couple of my fraternity brothers for a round of golf and a bunch of lies about our misspent youth. This is the 23rd time in the past 24 years we’ve had a reunion around this game. And this kind of story is being repeated all over this town today. It is why, with all due respect to Coach Mark Richt, the Georgia-Florida game should NEVER leave Jacksonville. It’s just too much fun.
Last week we got back on track with a 7-3 record to give us a mark of 58-32 for the year. It’s been a great week with a great weekend to come. I hope you, unlike me, will be able to keep it in the short grass.
1. Georgia (7-1) vs. Florida (6-1) at Jacksonville: The way the Gators have been rolling up points, it is tempting to pick Florida. They have the revenge factor on their side but I think that lasts about two possessions for a game at this level. I like Georgia because of their balance. Knowshon Moreno has 10 games of over 100 yards at Georgia. The Bulldogs are 10-0 in those games. After Saturday, Moreno will have 11 games over 100 yards and Georgia will have its second straight win over the Gators, a first since 1988-89. Georgia 37, Florida 34.
2. Florida State (6-1) at Georgia Tech (6-2): Florida State has finally found an offensive identity with quarterback Christian Ponder and running back Antone Smith. The Seminoles now have a solid running game to back up the nation’s No. 3 defense (247.9 ypg, 79.9 rushing per game). Florida State is 12-0 against Georgia Tech since joining the ACC and has the speed on defense to run with the option attack of the Yellow Jackets. Tech needs to hit a couple of home runs because it is going to be difficult to sustain drives against this FSU defense. Florida State 24, Georgia Tech 20.
3. Tennessee (3-5) at South Carolina (5-3): One team will be excited about playing this game (South Carolina). The other (Tennessee) can’t be too fired up with all of the controversy surrounding the job status of coach Phillip Fulmer. It’s going to be a low scoring game as the offenses are ranked 79th and 112th and the defenses are 14 (Tennessee) and four (South Carolina). The way Tennessee’s offense is playing right now, the Volunteers might not score unless the defense forces turnovers. South Carolina 17, Tennessee 7.
4. Auburn (4-4) at Ole Miss (4-4): Ole Miss always provides a “warm” welcome for Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville, who was their head coach for 1995-98. Now Tuberville is fighting for his coaching life and needs a good win. Ole Miss has beaten Florida on the road and had four losses by a touchdown or less. A win would all but assure the Rebels will be bowl eligible as they play Louisiana-Monroe next week. Auburn has to force QB Jevan Snead (11 interceptions) to turn the ball over. Ole Miss 24, Auburn 20.
5. Kentucky (5-3) at Miss. State (3-5): Kentucky got embarrassed at Florida (63-5) last week but the Wildcats are still a pretty solid team with a good defense. In order to jump start the offense, coach Rick Brooks will start true freshman Randall Cobb at quarterback. Mississippi State needs a win here because the Bulldogs finish with Alabama, Arkansas, and Ole Miss. They won’t get it. Kentucky 17, Miss. State 7.
6. Arkansas State (4-3) at Alabama (8-0): Alabama has had a tendency to play down to an inferior opponent but the Crimson Tide really needs to take care of business on Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Alabama has the big trip to LSU coming up next week and is sitting at No. 2 in the BCS Standings with the sentimental favorite, Penn State’s Joe Paterno, resting at No. 3. Alabama does not want to give the voters in the polls one moment to doubt. Alabama 35, Arkansas State 7.
7.Clemson (3-4) at Boston College (5-2): Boston College (2-2 ACC) has no margin for error if it wants to stay in the hunt in the ACC Atlantic. The problem for the Eagles, and the hope for Clemson, is that quarterback Chris Crane has reverted to this old ways. He had three interceptions last week and has 12 picks (to 7 touchdowns) on the season. Clemson has had a week off since its 21-17 home loss to Georgia Tech. Clemson’s team psyche is fragile at home. It will not be better on the road. Boston College 28, Clemson 17.
8. Miami (5-3) at Virginia (5-3): Nobody has done a better coaching job the last four weeks than Virginia’s Al Groh. The Cavaliers beat Georgia Tech last week for their fourth straight win after a 1-3 start. During the winning streak Virginia Tech has scored an average of 26.5 points and gained 382 yards after averaging 9.0 points in the first four games. Miami still has issues on offense and won’t get them resolved against a pretty good Virginia defense. Virginia 28, Miami 14.
9. Duke (4-3) at Wake Forest (4-3): Wake Forest has beaten Duke eight straight times and desperately needs a win here to stay alive in the ACC Atlantic. Deacon coach Jim Grobe is determined to revive the Wake Forest running game, which is why he ran the ball 52 times in a 16-10 loss to Miami last week. Duke, which is trying to become bowl eligible for the first time since 1994, could take a big step in that direction with a win. Duke 21, Wake Forest 17.
10. Texas (8-0) at Texas Tech (8-0): This is easily the biggest game ever in Lubbock, Tex. Texas Tech and quarterback Graham Harrell are No. 3 nationally in scoring offense (48.0 ppg). Harrell has thrown for 3,147 yards and 28 touchdowns with only five interceptions. Texas is a more physical team and will be able to take advantage of that unless the Longhorns get behind and have to start throwing. Texas ranks 110th nationally in passing defense, giving up 265.5 yards per game. This one is going to be wild. Texas 52, Texas Tech 45.

Sorry TB…I know you are from Ga and are trying to save your job with the AJC & Ga constiuents who read this paper….if LSU with a rookie QB….can drop 500 of yards of total offense on the dogs…(not too mention his 3 turnovers for 17 pts)…I can not see UF with all of the speed with their RBs….Tebow…Harvin…losing. Not too mention that endzone fiasco by Ga will be revisited by UF in the pre-game speech….Seems like we have all forgotten the beatdown that Bama put on the dogs….this beatdown by UF will allow the Dognation to put their pre-season number 1 banners…magazines back in the box of another 30 year wait.

Tony, I agree with all of your picks except the local teams. I don’t think UGA has proven that they can stop anybody of substance—and this FLA offense has substance. They couldn’t stop Bama and they couldn’t stop LSU (though they did outscore them). I do see it close, since I don’t believe in FLA’s defense either. Maybe 35-30 FLA.
And I think Tech pulls it out against FSU. I guess I’ve drunk the Kool-Aid; I believe in PJ and his coaches. I think they correct some of the things that went awry last Sat. I think the D-line returns to form against a young O-line for FSU. When Micky Andrews loads the box Tech will use its receivers. It will be 23-20 Tech.

The ugag/floriduh hype bowl is just a bonified arena league game. No defense whatsoever and probably 100 points scored. It is literally shocking how weak the sec is this year. Tony, sooner or later the sec hype is going to have to match what is happening on the field…which is putrid. Tony, you obviously know nothing are REAL football, that is whay you are always so wrong on the ACC. The BIG game this weekend is the TECH/fsu game. Unlike the sec games, there will be DEFENSE in this game. Tech will probably win, but it should be a really good game. And BOTH of these teams will beat ugag and floriduh at the end of the season. Then, Tony, you will be able to stick your sec bullshiiite where the sun don’t shine. And, as always, Thank God and Greyhound that the sec of coaches, Chan Gailey, is gone FOREVER.

Tony,
Kentucky has already played ‘Bama. They finish with GA, Vandy & Tennessee.
I understand your rationale for all your picks. There are some tough ones. Some will call you a homer for picking GA. If you had not picked them, the other side would have criticized you as well. In my opinion, this game is a toss up. It will probably be decided late.
Texas-Texas Tech has the potential to be 80-78. The reason Texas will probably win is they can run the ball and pound the TT defense a little. TT can score, but they cannot really stop anyone. Check out the TT-Nebraska stats. It might be a 4.5 hour game!

Tony Thanks for the pick, hope it holds up. I agree with you on keeping the game in Jax. Too much fun to have it anywhere else, long ride home when you lose but hopefully that won’t happen and the Dawgs pull out a win. Fans that have never been to a game in Jax can’t imagine the atmosphere before during and after the game, and how devastated the feeling is when you lose. Winning gives new meaning to the phrase “getting what you always wanted”.

1) I’ll take my Gators and the three points that TB is giving me.
2) I will say FSU wins this because of team speed. I hope Coach Johsnon has some tricks up his sleeve to prove me wrong.
3)South Carolina beats Tennessee. Spurrier loves beating Fulmer.
4)Ole Miss beats Auburn.
Skipping down to Texas. They win again and basically secure their seat in the National Championship game.
Final thought: I agree with TB. The Florida/Georgia game should never be moved from Jax. Its not a home field advantage for the Gators. And it is, bar none, the best college football atmosphere of any game played every year.

Big Tone,

Now let’s get serious. I like your pic about my Dawgs but I’m a tad nervous. Those pesky little backs they bring in and that motivated heisman winner will be touch on CWM. I think if we can hang on in the first quarter and not be down 21-0, we should be able to keep Knowshon in the gameplam and then begin to wear the turds out with long, touchdown scoring drives. Plus the fact that Urban Crier has all the pressure on him this game. If he gets beat he will really start to feel some heat with the spoiled, cheesy UF fans. I predict Dawgs 42-24!

This GA team is playing almost identical to last years team. I thought it was truly over after the Alabama fiasco. But, that game was the Tenn game of 07. The DAWGS “woke up” and have gotten better each week. I really didn’t think they could beat FLA, but after the LSU game, I think it is very likely…but will be a very close, down to the wire game. Stafford and Moreno have their best games of the season and that balance will prevail.

Last night Mark May and Lou Holtz picked the Gators. Mark May even stated that “the Gators win at home, BIG!” As a bulldawg fan I want to personally thank both of them for the jinx. With that stated, Tech looses by 17, Wake Forest looses by 7, Texas Tech looses by 10, and Bama squeaks by Arkansas State opening the doors to Penn State to take the #2 spot, due to a non-impressive victory in the human polls category. I’ve been saying that the conspiracy all season will be a Big 10 team in the BCS Championship Game despite the weakness of the conference. Don’t fool yourself into thinking that the SEC will be represented in anyway, even if there’s an undefeated team. They don’t want us there again. Bank IT!

UGA will slaughter North Ave. JC once again, keeping the record undefeated this millenium. Hopefully Florida will hang 100 on Bowden and he will have to be courted off the field on a stretcher since that will be the only way he and Paterno will ever leave.

I wish that his holiness would stop trying to minimize his role in last year’s end zone dance. He forgets that the game was on television, and we saw him urging the team on the field. It was the most flagrant display of bad sportsmanship since Woody Hayes shoved the Clemson player 30 years ago. Hayes had more of an excuse. He was old, and the act resulted in his resignation. Richt’s act has resulted in national humiliation of the University and will lead to a butt whipping of Biblical proportions on Saturday.

The celebration really was not a big deal. I think that after the game and it got so much coverage and the fact that the Gators did not retaliate during the game embarrassed Urban Meyer. The more coverage afterward, the worse it looked on the Gator tradition. That is why it is more of a motivation for this years game.

For the record, Tony is not trying to save his job- he’s already gotten a better offer. You da Man, Tony, UF-UGA will be a high scoring affair, big plays by UF, drives and some big ones from UGA. The UF D will get tired when the adrenaline wears off and they have to stay on the field longer and longer. That’s when Knowshon breaks one off. Meanwhile, UGA will harass and frustrate Mr. Tebow causing him to try too hard to win it single-handedly. That’s when a key mistake happens. I go with UGA to win 45-42. The celebration happens on the red & black side- more tears in the Gator locker room.

This week’s completely fallible predictions——
(1) Florida over Georgia by 10. Dawgs’ Moreno rushes for 100+ yards, and the Gators still win in Jacksonville. Predictions: 7 or more Gators will have receptions, 5 or more Gator backs will contribute to 200+ yards rushing on the day, Tebow will throw 225+ yards for 3 touchdowns and rush for another.
(2) Georgia Tech over Florida State by 3. Seminoles aren’t ready yet for prime time, and they haven’t faced anything like the Yellow Jackets’ triple option all season.
(3) South Carolina over Tennessee by 7. The Evil Genius was there when Phil was hired, and he will be there when Phil retires (albeit at different SEC schools). It’s been a good run, Phil; know when to cash in your chips gracefully.
(4) Here’s new: Ole Miss does not suck. Auburn apparently does. Rebs over the Tigers by 7.
(5) Kentucky over Mississippi State by 7. Kentucky’s program needs the win for the future; MSU is slipping back into the mire, notwithstanding Coach Croom’s efforts.
(6) A game that should not be played at this point in the season: Alabama over Arkansas State by more points than I can count on all my fingers and toes. “I knew Louisiana-Monroe, Louisiana-Monroe was a homecoming opponent of mine, and you, you’re no Louisiana-Monroe!”
(7) The reign of error continues——Boston College over Clemson by 17. The ghosts of Danny Ford and Charley Pell are spinning in their NCAA dungeons.
(8) Virginia ended Miami’s Orange Bowl tenure with a home loss. The year a revived Cavalier team makes it two in a row over the Canes by 7. “And all the ‘Hoos in ‘Hooville sang “Wahoo-wa! and spilled bourbon and coke on their game dates.”
(9) My, how times have changed. From the perspective of fiver years ago, I can’t believe that this ACC match-up of former bottom-feeders has become relevant. No bet——will Duke continue to improve or will Jim Groh find life in his offense again?
(10) Texas better find a pass defense. Prediction: win, lose or draw, if Texas Tech scores more than 42 points against Texas, the Longhorns will not win the BCS championship game. Defense wins championships, not pass-happy shoot-outs (see, Marino, Daniel, former quarterback, Miami Dolphins).
Good luck to whichever team for whom you cheer, and may the best teams win (they usually do).

Tony your lame Azz picks never cease to amaze. Your just a another fan, no hint of a journalist left in you. Here are some picks you can take to the bank.
.1. Georgia (7-1) vs. Florida (6-1) at Jacksonville: Take the Gators and give 6 points, they win by 10.
.2. Florida State (6-1) at Georgia Tech (6-2): Take Tech give 2 ½ . Tech by a touchdown.
.3. Tennessee (3-5) at South Carolina (5-3): Who cares, but I’d give the 5 ½ and take S.C, they win by 7.
.4. Auburn (4-4) at Ole Miss (4-4): Hmmm, Take Auburn and the 6 ½ . Ole Miss by 3.
.5. Kentucky (5-3) at Miss. State (3-5): Ok, every Dawg (like I said you’re a fan) has its day, you got this one right, Kentucky wins by 10, bet on them they cover (2 ½).
.6. Arkansas State (4-3) at Alabama (8-0): Wrong take, Ark St. the Razorbacks win by 10, but they won’t cover (23); Expect them to drop to #3 this week.(you knew it would happen, their just looking for a reason to move Penn State to #2)
.7.Clemson (3-4) at Boston College (5-2): Boston College covers, give the points (4 ½)BC by 14.
.8. Miami (5-3) at Virginia (5-3): Give Miami the 2, take the Cav’s they win by 7. This team will be Bowl eligible by seasons end.
.9. Duke (4-3) at Wake Forest (4-3): What are you thinking? Wake will win, but not cover. Take Duke and the points (7 ½)
Now for those of you who understand a world exist outside Atlanta.
Washington at USC: Take Washington and the points (44 1/2). SC wins by 35.
Nebraska at Oklahoma: Nebraska loses; Oklahoma wins by 21, they don’t cover. Take Nebraska

Unlike all of terrifically smart people above me on these posts (both DAWGS and gators), I don’t have a clue about the Saturday outcome. Everyone is very aware of the potency of the gator offense, the speed, etc. But with the skill and talent of the GA offense, Moreno running, AJ Green receving, and Matthew Stafford looking more like Joe Montana, its just difficult to accept that the DAWGS have no chance in this game.
We’ve seen both teams over the years fire out the box and build up a large lead in the first half. I hope after the Alabama debacle, that the DAWG defense holds the line and not allow that to happen. Also, its important to note that even with a four possession DAWG lead at half, the gators can come back on you in a hurry.
Defense and special teams will be so important in this game. I have no doubt that both offenses will execute very well.
There will be some long faces Sunday morning. Let’s hope they reside in Gainesville, FL.

Here’s a thought: Dogs lose to Florida and maybe a couple other games to finish the season (or same thing happens to Gators). That SEC team goes to Liberty Bowl and plays Conf. USA champ Tulsa. By that time Tulsa should be undefeated and ranked near the top 10. SEC beats Tulsa and earns major cache points for the league? Just something to look forward to!

First Tech will whip Florida State 21-10 Georiga will stun Florida 44-32 … Tech will Trounce Georgia 45-2 (a safety towards the end of the game)
Unfortantely it wil be to late for Tech to play for the National Championship, but will set up the 2009-2010 ratings with Tech in the top 10 hopefully the top 5. We didn’t hire Johnson just to be a great team. WE were a great team we hired him to WIN THE BIG ONE.

The George defense leaks more than a “screened bottom boat” - did Bama just score again? or was it LSU? 2 good offenses, but Florida’s def and special teams (but not their dance team) are better than UGA. Won’t be that close in Jax this year. Go Gators!

Tony- I’m tired of beating you each week on your “Pick’em” article. Now you have begun to copy my picks! Some of us can only carry you so far. The struggle this weekend with the Dawgs and FU will last until the middle of the 3rd qtr and the Dawgs will pull away inexorably. The largest driving force for UGA has been nearly overlooked…we want revenge vs Bama! That’s what we are playing for and screw the pesky gators that get in the way. This team has a mission that we all don’t quite get (like the players’s take) and will be what they keep their eye on.
The Dawgs are set for revenge as well and FU is a roadblock to be removed on our way to exact that revenge. It will be in Atlanta, not Jax. This should be a great practice for us on the way to retribution vs Bama.
Dawgs- Keep a tight leash on UgaVII and keep him away from those kids with Jorts. Else he will get that leghumper rumor started again. Teach him to pee on Jorts to give Crier material for another “book” . Nuff said.
Clean their plow, Dawgs.

UGA WAS THE UNDERDOG LAST YEAR DA G8R
By D
October 31, 2008 1:00 PM | Link to this
There are a lot of prognisticators out there who believe that UGA has no chance in this football game. It was the same way last week when UGA played at LSU. Historically, when UGA goes into a football game knowing that they are an underdog, they come out and play with a lot of confidence. This weekend will be no different. Florida will move the ball on us, but UGA’s running game will keep that UF offense off the field enough to hold them under 30 points. Time of possession will be huge in this game, and UGA will have a decided advantage in time of possession. It will come down to a kicker making a field goal to win it, and that kicker will be Blair Walsh. Fla has yet to face an offense anywhere near the caliber of UGA’s. Their defense is untested and unproven. Dawgs win 34-27.

Robert Smith of ESPN just gave some kudo’s to Knowshon but picked an easy UF win. Is there anyone working at that organization who thinks my Dawgs have a chance? UF hasn’t been tested yet.

The Dawgs or Gators or even Alabama may be the SEC champ, only Alabama would be undefeated, assuming they don’t have a meltdown before. I am sorry but even a one-loss SEC Champ will not be picked by the BCS for a N.C. if there is an undefeated Big 12 or Big 10 Champion. The human polls will not allow that to happen. The only exception was LSU last year and everyone saw that it should have been USC and UGA. They will not repeat that mistake again. It’s about money and ratings. More people in this country are Big 10 fans. Not me, but if you are from the North where the states are more densly populated, this is just the way it is. I realize that the BCS is screwed up, but if I was a betting man I would not choose the SEC Champ for the BCS N.C. In my personal opinion the National Champion is the SEC Champion.

UF hasn’t been tested? Was Ole Miss just a pop quiz? We got an F on that one. I think by this time in the season all SEC teams have been “tested”. We have played two teams in common and both of us won handily against them (Tenn. and LSU). Football is about matchups and I think we match up well with each other. Georgia and Florida are both built more on speed than power. Both are versatile on offense. It should be a close game no matter who wins. I wouldn’t bet on this game with my own money. But I think the 6 to 6 1/2 points that Florida is favored by is way to much. If its a blowout either way, I will be shocked.

UGA-UF: Flip a coin.
If the UF of the LSU game shows up to play the UGA of the LSU game, it will be one heck of a game.
If the UGA of the LSU game shows up to play the UF of the Ol’ Miss game, bulldogs win big.
If the UF of the LSU game shows up to play the UGA of the Alabama game, gators win big.
If the UGA of the Alabama game shows up to play the UF of the Ol’ Miss game, it’s just going to be ugly.

UGA fans may want to play Bama again, but I’m sure the players don’t. We didn’t beat you guys with trick plays and misdirection. We out muscled you and ran you over. Each UGA player knows in his heart that he was not as good as the guys in white he faced on September 27.

I’ll leave the smack talk and score predictions to others, but I believer we will see one of two scenarios:
1 - Either UGA or UF will win a close game.
2 - UF will win big.
I hate to say it, but I don’t think we have shown we can blow out a team as talented as UF. Can we win? Of course. Can we win big? Doubt it.

1- I have no idea what-so-ever about the shootout in Jacksonville. Usually I have a gut feeling about a game, though sometimes I am wrong. I have no such feeling about this game. It could be a 17-10 final score, or these offenses could score a hundred and more points. I am going Dogs because I am a Dog fan but as far as point spread, I have no idea. No betting on this game for Me. Dogs win, with My fingers crossed! 2 I saw this coming a couple of weeks ago, and said so on this blog. FSU seems to be on their way back. I am leaning toward the ‘Noles, but I am not betting on this one either. I don’t bet against Georgia teams. I think the ‘Noles win this one. 3- What? This isn’t a must win for Fulmer? Come on Tony! You said beating UGA was a must for Fulmer, then You said beating ‘Bama was a must for Fulmer, so I guess losing to SOS is okay for Phil. I am going with the Gamecocks because of their defense and because Spurrier beats at least one of the “Big Three” in the East every year. The OBC has lost to the Dawgs and doesn’t have much of a shot against the Gators, so I think he will pull out all the stops against the Vols. Besides, Spurrier hates the Vols almost as much as he hates the Dawgs. 4- I don’t think Tubbs is in any danger and I don’t think this game is all that important. AU wins an ugly one. 5- UK lost their go to WR and their best RB. They should still beat Missy State. UK wins. 6- Bama coasts to a win, no blowout necessary. Saban knows a big game is coming next week. 7- How can a team with so much talent continue to lose to lesser teams? I know that you have the odd upset, but sooner or later talent should come through. I am going with Clemson on this one. 8- UVa has burned Me twice, so has Miami. UVa by winning, Miami by losing. To show what a sucker I am, I am going with the ‘Canes on this one. 9- When you believe in a man you stick with him. Cutts has done a great job at Duke, but I think Jim Grobe is the best coach in the country that nobody talks about. I am going with Grobe’s boys. Wake wins. 10- Texas has made Me some money this year. Even last week, I took Okie State and the points because OKST always plays the Horns close, but I knew that UT would win. I am going with Texas again for the win. BTW, I have always heard that the line between genuis and insanity is very thin, and that bothers Me about this game. I haven’t figured out where Texas Tech’s coach is in relation to that line. Maybe he straddles it! Les Miles is completely sane in comparison to him.

I hope your picks pan out but I do believe it’s so close it’s probably a toss up. If Fullmer lose to S.C and Kentuck he will have a new mailing address next year and he might any way. Losing Cutcliffe has really hurt them, he must be great with QBs.

I actually pull for UGA in this one. But I think FLA is just too fast. Gators win a wild one, 45-31.
Jackets D-Line goes right through FSU inexperienced O-Line, unless the officials allow them to hold as much as UVA did. Nope, FSU kids aren’t as adept. Ponder is terrorized and Jackets win 21-10.
Tennessee and South Carolina, two crappy SEC teams, one a lot crappier than the other. SC wins easy and the big pumpkin gets carved up. Boy, the SEC has a few really good teams and a bunch of crap otherwise. SC 17-3.
Another matchup of crappy SEC teams. Tony, you have to admit that other than UGA, FLA and Bama the SEC is mediocre at best. Tubbervilles long season continues as OleMIss wins 12-7.
A recurring theme. Another SEC game that only the school alums want to watch. ESPN is starting to think that $3B deal was a mistake. KY 14-3.
Ark St, Arkansas, doesn’t matter. Good thing the UGA-FLA game is this weekend cause all the other SEC games are PEEEYEWWW. Bama should win by 49 but will only prevail by 21.
7.BC is just not that good but Clemson is too young on the O-line. Similar result for YaboDaboDoo as the Tech game. BC 21-17.
UVA is actually pretty good now that they dumped their drunk QB. Miami is not good. UVA wins easy 28-10.
A promissing season for Wake has taken an ugly turn. Tony, your wrong, Cutcliffe has Duke playing better but they are still the worst team in the ACC. Wake rolls 24-10.
Texas goes to Lubbock and finds out things are not so easy on the road. TTech pulls the upset in a shootout since nobody in the big 12 plays E, 45-428

“amazing how WEAK the SEC is?” You’re a f’n moron, you silly Techy. When your high-school offense is actually in contention for an ACC title, that says something about the mighty ACC doesn’t it.
Check the Rankings and tell me again how weak the SEC is. You’re a doofus

No way this is the biggest Ga Fla game. I don’t even think the winner will win the SEC. What is on the line, Alabama will run the table and go to the national championship game against Texas. I am thinking Texas beats them but where in there is this game all that important. If Alabama doesn’t go it is Penn State.

bamafan, “it all started when the crimson tied beat the dawgs”? What started? Barely winning against Ole Miss and Kentucky? I guess it will “continue” if you barely get by Arkansas State.
As far as the UGA-UF game goes, the best team will win the game. With few exceptions it’s just the way it is. Great rivalry, best team wins.
Why not go back in to your trailer, pop open a PBR and enjoy watching reruns of Hee Haw with your sister/wife.

Dawg Fans are so naive. You can pencil in the stat sheet in advance. Knowshon Moreno - 16 carries 32 yards; Matthew Stafford 28 / 52 Three Picks no touchdowns and 5 sacks. UF will post 28 points before Mark Richt finds his headset. Fastest Team on Grass 42 - UGA 9. This game is a steamed Urban Meyer versus Willie “Welcome to Our End Zone” Martinez. And when it is over UGA heads off to the Peach Bowl; Knownshon and Stafford head off for NFL Money and Georgia has nothing to show for it. But wait …. “did you hear about our recruiting class. Wait until next year.” And on it goes.

I think this will be the best Florida/Georgia game in 20 years, and I agree it will be a Georgia victory by 3 points. This is MUCH to big a rivalry to believe that the stomp last year will influence the outcome, because if you can’t get up for this game as it is, you’re not ready to be a college athlete. I’m sure Urban (Oscar the Wiener/Whiner) Mayer will try to, but it won’t work. Dogs 41, Gators 38.

Auburn by 10 over Ole Miss.
KY wins by 7.
Bama rolls by 24 over Ark State.
Clemson over BC by 6.

The 2008 Gators are the greatest show on turf! They are what college football is all about. They aren’t worried about UGA at all! In fact, to prove how weak the UGA defense really is, they will run only 3 plays the entire game: Tebow up the middle, reverse pitch to Percy Harvin, and the Tebow jump pass! And as a reward for winning the game 128-12, Tebow will be invited to be the ” Creamy Filling” of a Lou Holtz and Mark May ” LOVE OREO”.

When will you Gator fans stop whining about Tebow’s shoulder last year? Last time I checked his shoulder didn’t play defense and give up 40 points. And his shoulder didn’t cause him to get sacked 5 times. He played a great game last year and Florida STILL lost! Just face the fact that UGA was the best team last year and get over it.

Isn’t ridiculous how the writers for the AJC are homers for the Dawgs. It’s just unheard of. I mean, the Charlotte Observer would never be biased for UNC and the LATimes would never be biased toward USC. The AJC is the only website that has writers lean toward the state university. Go read the Gainesville Wetlands Fishwrap or the Tuscaloosa Picture Pages and you’ll see that they all serve up unbiased coverage for college football. I’m tired of you homers writing pro-Georgia articles in the state of Georgia. See, I went to school in another state and I live in Atlanta because that’s where the jobs were. The thing that you need to understand is that when you live in Atlanta, it is impossible to use the internet to go to Gainesville Sun or to Tidesports.com or the dispatch.com to read articles geared toward my team. I find it unfair that the you are so biased toward the state university of the state we are in. I mean, I’m just sayin…

After skimming through these posts, it is obvious the GA fans have regained their typical delusional swagger after the beat down they received earlier this year. I mean they just beat the crap out of LSU and all.
Oh, wait a minute, the mighty bulldogs only scored 38-offensive points. Even with the greatest QB ever and Herschel, Jr. in the backfield.
In case the math is overly complicated (52-14=38) that is the same amount of offensive points as an LSU team who played a rookie QB, who would should have been the back-up this year, and a transfer QB, who last played in the ivy-league. Thank God for the two interceptions returned for TD’s so that GA fans could get back to their normal level of arrogance.

The ESPN crew as usual totally thinks and expects a blowout victory and revenge for Florida. If I were Mark Richt, I’d tell my team that the Gators are the ones with the pressure on their shoulders. The Dawgs have proven that they can run on the Gators( 185 yards and 3 TD’s last year by Knowshon), they proven they can throw on the Gators( 3 TD’s by Stafford last year), and they have proven they can put pressure on the QB( 6 sacks last year on Tebow). The Gators on the other hand haven’t done any of these things particularly well against the Dawgs even in wins in 2006 and 2005.
Also, one thing that UGA has done a great job of is sustaining against Tennessee and LSU, the Dawgs totally dominated time of possession. The Dawgs have had a lot of success this season when they have be able to sustain drives and if the Dawgs start winning the time of possession battle in this game it doesn’t bode well with the Gators. I think the Gators have been playing good football lately, but they’re going to have to earn it today.

and its looking like the big twelve has 12 teams that cant play good D. its no wonder they score 50 points a game. let them play teams with good D’s and watch the teams from that league plummet in the polls.
that crappy ol acc with all those YOUNG teams is starting to look better and better and better.
look for fsu to put a whoopin on uf at the end of the year and look for one of the youngest teams in the nation to play the bullfrawgs pretty even at their place. an preseason also ran beating the consensus no 1 preseason team at their place? could happen.

I have notice Tony differs sometime with his television show and his AJC articles. He is a bright guy but there must be pressure to build the Dawgs up or just be easy on them so he can live in this town. I enjoy reading him but there is no way any person can keep up with 100 college football teams, and I think he would have to admit he bushes over Georgia and Tech as stereotypes without really looking at them. I don’t think he has an agenda I just think we are all like Pavlo’s dog. This should be a week he remembers, but in general he is part of a very enjoyable past time college football in the south.

Tony
A few weeks ago you wrote ” Matt Stafford is the best and most complete college quarterback in the land.”
Well as I pause while you get your foot out of your mouth, I have seen better quarterbacking at the D2 level than Mr. Stafford.
No doubt on Saturday, I saw three that were better. #1 Tim Tebow, #2 Graham Harrell, #3 John Parker Wilson, and might as well add Colt Mccoy in the way he fought thru a terrible night.
Get of the Georgia train, cause the ride is OVER!!!

Meyer called two timeouts at the end of the game as a way of telling the dawgs, “You can go home when we say you can.”

Tony B should start a new columm entitled “I don’t know my -ss from a hole in the wall when it comes to picking games” or “I hate GT and will pick against them everytime”. Or you could remain humble and invite CPJ over for dinner. He’ll remind you that GT is alot better than you so called “experts”. You have no more credentials than I do and I’m dead last in my picks pool this year. But even I did better than you for 3 weeks in a row. But after this bashing, your article does its job. It brings conversation, contraversy, and page views. Kudos Mr. TB. Kudos!
Who are you picking next week? Georgia. SURPRISE

“Mr. College Football” Your record this week:
UGA over Florida= WRONG FSU over GT= WRONG Tenn over SC= WRONG UVA over Miami= WRONG BC over Clemson= WRONG Duke over Wake = WRONG Texas over T Tech= WRONG Auburn over Ole Miss = WRONG
Bama over Ark St= RIGHT (Gimme cupcake) Kentucky over Miss Sate = RIGHT
Let’s tally this one up: 2-8 this week. Might try throwing darts next time w/ the exception of continuing to back UGA and dismiss lowly GT.

These picks were ridiculous. Are AJC readers going to have to see this next week?

Tony—I hope you never try to earn a living in vegas making picks. Those selections were way off. You need to move out of Atlanta for awhile—-that dawg mania around the AJC is causing hallucinations about the superiority of UGA—-Mark Bradley caught this disease a long time ago.

BCS bowl picture…imagine that the season was over—-hard to do with so much fun still ahead of us, but do it. now imagine that the Playoffs were set to begin and the bowl matchups were as follows…1)alabama vs 16)LSU… 2)texas tech vs 15)BYU…3)Penn St vs14)Mizzou…4)texas vs 13)Georgia…5)Florida vs 12)TCU…6)OU vs 11) Ohio St….7)USC vs 10)Boise St….and 8)Utah vs 9) Ok St.
use 15 traditional bowl sites to appease the masses and watch the money pour in as all of the games garner huge tv ratings and all of the cities hosting these games sell every seat available. it’s time to see it happen…
how and who needs to be involved to get the inevitable to occur. we have an african american president—it’s about time. now, it’s about time to see this occur as well.
