Georgia-Florida IS a BCS elimination game

Nobody asked me but…

1. Say it with me: Georgia-Florida IS ABSOLUTELY a BCS elimination game: I’ve had some people take issue with my statement that Saturday’s showdown between No. 6 Georgia and No. 8 Florida is a BCS elimination game. “But Tony,” they plead, “Look what happened to LSU last year!” Yes, LSU did get into the national championship game with two losses (11-2) last season. But understand that the stars had to be perfectly aligned for LSU. No. 1 and No. 2 both had to lose on Championship Saturday and LSU had to jump from No. 7 to No. 2. When you have five undefeated teams in the BCS Top 10 and three SEC teams in the top eight with one or no losses on Nov. 1, the odds are against the SEC champion having two losses and getting into the game. I know the loser of this game wants to hold out hope. But the fact is that the winner in Jacksonville stays in the BCS hunt and the loser starts making plans for the Outback Bowl.

2. With a win, Georgia can and SHOULD jump over Southern Cal: I know the human pollsters just love Southern Cal, which is ranked No. 5 in the BCS Standings. But if No. 6 Georgia can beat No. 8 Florida on Saturday, the Bulldogs have a real chance to jump over the Trojans into the No. 5 spot. By beating LSU and Florida in consecutive weeks, the Bulldogs should pick up some votes from the humans. The computers will certainly smile on Georgia if it beats Florida while frowning on Southern Cal, which has Washington (0-7) this week. Washington is a 43-point underdog whose coach just announced that he’s stepping down. No matter how badly the Trojans beat the Huskies, it won’t, and shouldn’t, help. If Florida beats Georgia and No. 7 Texas Tech loses to No. 1 Texas, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Gators jump over Southern Cal into the No. 5 spot.

3. David Cutlciffe is not coming back to Tennessee: Should Tennessee make a change at head coach, and that is beginning to look more likely by the day, there has been speculation that David Cutcliffe, who served two terms as the Tennessee OC and is now the head coach at Duke (4-3) might return. It’s understandable that Cutcliffe’s name would come up. Here are the numbers: With Cutcliffe calling the plays, Phillip Fulmer’s teams were 85-19. With somebody else calling the plays, the record is 65-31. But it’s not going to happen. Cutcliffe and Fulmer are very close. The only way Cutcliffe comes back is if Fulmer gave his blessing and convinced him that it was for the good of the program. I know this has become a cutthroat business, but there is still a little loyalty left out there. Isn’t there?

4. Texas has impressed me: The Longhorns and Colt McCoy still haven’t faced a really good defense. In fact, the best defense in the Big 12 belongs to Texas, and it’s ranked No 43. But you have to be impressed after watching Texas beat No. 1 (at the time) Oklahoma, No. 11 Missouri, and No. 7 Oklahoma State on consecutive weeks. Now Texas has to go on the road to face No. 8 Texas Tech (8-0). If Texas wins that will be four victories over four teams ranked in the Top 11 on four consecutive Saturdays. Three of the four will have been undefeated at the time that Texas won. I don’t think they keep records on this but it must be one of the best four-week performances ever by a team.

5. Florida State is a year ahead of schedule: When I went to visit Florida State this summer, the conventional wisdom in Tallahassee was that 2008 was the setup year for making a serious run at the ACC championship in 2009. But Florida State has finally found its identity with a tough, physical running game and another good defense built by Mickey Andrews. Georgia Tech will have its hands full with the Seminoles on Saturday. If Florida State wins the ACC championship and Penn State slips into the BCS title game, do Bobby Bowden and Joe Paterno walk out the door together? Not a chance.

Tony, if UGA beats Florida, and that is a big IF, if the Dogs are still behind the Trogans, then the whole world will know the fix is in with the BCS and the love affair with USC will be exposed for what it is.

Florida has been very impressive in their past two games. As I recall, these impressive performances followed several lackluster outings that culminated in a loss to Ole Miss.

This Florida team lacks consistency and that makes me very unsure of what to expect in the Georgia vs. Florida game. I think that injuries have been a big part of the story for both teams this season.

I wouldn’t miss seeing this game — but I wouldn’t bet a nickle on the outcome.

I am SO sick of hearing about the “dance”. FL had 3 1/2 quarters left to do something, and they DID NOT. This will not be an easy game for either team, but UGA D is better equipped to stop a sideline to sideline run game. However, FL better be ready b/c KM is going to run, run, run! GO DAWGS, KILL THOSE GATORS!

The BCS SUCKS. It is the worst system ever developed. Trying to hand pick the final two is STUPID…think about how stupid it would be to scrap march madness in basketball or the college world series in baseball and let some idiot like Tony pick the final two. There would be an a riot. So anyone, and I repeat anyone, that supports the BCS is a damne fool. Secondly, the ugag-floriduh game is nothing more than a glorified Arena league football game. There will be no defense and the over and under is probably 100 points. The sec is probably the weakest it has ever been this year. The REAL game Saturday is the TECH/fsu game. Real college football, real defense, both in the ACC title hunt. Tony, just say no to the BCS and all the bullshiiite sec hype. And as always, Thank God and Greyhound that the sec of college coaches, Chan Gailey, is gone FOREVER.

1) Biggest stakes in …Well, forever. If the pups want to break through, this is a must win.

2)Polls are inherently flawed. Somebody gets screwed this year.

3) Look for a new regime on Rocky Top next year. Whether Phil Fumer walks the plank or is pushed overboard, the Vols AD (Mike Hamilton ) neds to clean house. That means everyone from the not-ready -for - primetime OC Dave Clawson to the bumbling idiot play by play radio crew. More inbreeding didn’t solve the problem at ‘Bama, a fresh approach did. That’s why this is a critcal hire for the next decade of Tennessee athletics.

4)This weekend’s BIG 12 matchup of unbeatens is a BCS elimination game, too. I like Tech. they can score against anybody.

5) FSU is not the real deal yet. Lots of football still to be played. See me in January…

Tony I for one will be glad when 3:30 saturday rolls around and the game gets started. No endzone celebrations this year. The men in stripes will call everything so close, will probally set a record for penalties. Just hope they call it even. I think everybody’s jumped the gun on that BCS pick, Tony, whoever wins this game still has some games to play afterwards. UGA still has a date with Auburn and i know AUB is down this year but they always get up for this game, and haven’t upset anybody this year so could happen. UF still has a date with South Carolina and that won’t be an easy game for them. UGA plays a mistake free game and gets pressure on Tebow we can win. I’m taking the 5 1/5 spread. Not betting the house though just the Subway change from the sofa.

Good Morning Dawg Fans

None of the gators I talk with mention the dance or Tebow being hurt as the reason we lost last year. We all talk about the one simple explanation for the loss……….We couldn’t make Georgia punt the football! Defense, or lack there of lost the game for Florida.

And if out defense doesn’t play better this year, we will lose again.

The sad/crappy part of the BCS is that both Georgia and Florida’s remaining schedule is so much tougher than Penn State’s schedule. Especially with Georgia Tech and Florida State being improved over last year. Either Georgia or Florida will be SEC champs and left out of the national championship game.

To tbia

We beat in 2005 because Shockley was hurt and unable to play. Now stop cryin and get over it.

Tony, when you say ‘best four week performances ever by a team’(Texas), you make it sound as if Texes has already won that ‘Forth’ game against TT. FlaSt may be ahead of schedule, but they are in the ACC. Still along way to go before they are NC material. And for my take on the GA-FLA game: UGA will have ball control. Tebow will not be able to run on the UGA ‘D’, and Moody is prone to fumble. FLA will make some plays with their Special Teams & speed, but it won’t be enough to keep up by the end of the game. FLA ‘D’ will be tired.

FSU is getting better every week, but they sill are making young mistakes. They are playing the most freshman in college football so i guess that can be expected.

Let me guess Tony; the fans in denial that UGA/UF is an elimination game, were Georgia fans. They are the most in denial fans I’ve seen this year. They still think they’re gonna get past Florida. NOT. They think they could beat Bama in a rematch; DEFINITELY NOT!

Last year with LSU was a miracle for a two loss team and that won’t happen again anytime soon.

Alabama, even at #2, still isn’t getting respect. That’s fine, go ahead and doubt us. I believe. I know the road’s not easy, but one game at a time. Saban is a great coach and with time to prepare, I like our team against Florida or Texas when it counts. I just pray that we get to the National Title game to prove what I’m saying. As good as Texas has looked, they haven’t played Bama yet and I promise you, everybody will see why SEC football is the best and defense wins championships.

1- BCS elimination game? Absolutely! Winner has a trip to the SECCG almost guaranteed. That being said, the SEC winner may not have a slot in the BCSNCG if Penn State and Texas win out. 2- Coulda, shoulda, woulda, who knows with the polls. 3- If UT ousts Fulmer, Cutliff would be a step in the wrong direction, IMO. I think the UT program needs to go forward with new blood, not backwards. If You are going to clean house then clean house! Conventional wisdom says that UT cannot compete for recruits. I went to the Rivals site to check things out. What puzzeled Me was that UT can be in the top 10 in recruits, at times even in the Top 5, one year, and then drop out of the Top 20 the next. It seems that they recruit well every other year. I don’t understand this, one good year of recruiting should build momentum for the next. Could it be that Fulmer really cracks the whip on his staff after a bad year of recruiting and has them out beating the bushes for players, and then slacks up on them after a good year? 4- Texas is an imposing offensive machine, and Muschamp has given them a little fire in their belly, much like Tenuta has done with Notre Dame. You can say what you want about these guys as far as what defenses they call, but they sure as hell build some tough players. There is more to being a coach than what scheme You want to run. Texas isn’t “soft” anymore. There is some hope for Longhorn opponents however, I saw Colt throw a bad ball Saturday! 5- FSU is making a little comeback. They have stockpiled a lot of talent and last year they got rid of some dead wood. Some talented payers can be a cancer in the locker room and off the field. I heard an intresting interview with Terry Bowden on the Radio the other day, and He said that JoePa and his Dad were old school coaches, ala Bear Bryant. Coaching is what they do and they have no life outside of football. Terry recalled that the Bear coached untill he was unable to coach anymore, then six months later, Bear was dead. He is afraid the same thing will happen to Bobby after he quits. Maybe Bobby and JoePa are afraid of that too.

IM4BAMA…good luck with Arkansas State. Flex those SEC muscles. You should win 17-14 in overtime.

After losing to that Little Sisters of the Poor team from Louisiana last year, you have a long way to go before getting any respect. Try blowing out those teams used for “fillers” in your “tough” SEC schedule before asking for respect. I mean really…Tulane? Bama couldn’t even score an offensive touchdown against freakin’ TULANE!!!

The SEC champion truly deserves a berth in the BCSCG against the Big 12 champion, period.

Strength of schedule alone should be enough - add to that each of those conferences play a championship game.

Big 10 and Pac 10 are competitively lame and one huge game short.

If The Dawgs win every game including The SECC they still won’t go to the Big NC Dance because Joe Paterno will be given a Retirement Gift (if those Nittany Lions continue undefeated - which I think they will) in the form of a No. 2 Ranking under an undefeated Texas (likely too).

The rest of the country is tired of the SEC whining. You F-ing rednecks whine about what is, what was, and what might be. Especially the UGAy mutts.

You are the biggest hypocrites I’ve ever heard. You cry like little babys if your teams are jumped in the polls, but spend hours explain why you should jump others. You call coaches class less, they embarrass you University by acting like thugs in an opponents end zone.

It’s simple, you envy Southern Cal. You can’t beat them on the field so you beat your gums. (and your puds, u dick eaters)

They have the best defense in the WORLD, #1 in the NCAA and you couldn’t stay on the field with them. Nobody in your spoiled conference could score 2 touchdowns on them, and your lousy defenses couldn’t hold the Trojans to under 28 if you lives depended on it..

Now don’t start telling me how you coulda, woulda, shoulda, because you haven’t, and wouldn’t, and couldn’t. PROVE IT ON THE FIELD YOU F-ING WHINERS. Your “sec” is 0 for the 2000’s against Southern Cal. Until you win something against them YOUR JUST F-ING TALK.

And who could believe that Penn State should go before USC? Southern Cal beat the suckeyes by 35, it was over after the 2nd quarter.

It’s simple, until you can beat Southern Cal your all talk. Don’t think for a minute the Trojans are even a little worried about the “sec”; they would love to shove a boot up your a* and walk over your pathetic teams.

HAVE A NICE DAY! (f-ing losers)

Who exactly has Penn St. beat that is so impressive? Everybody outside the Big 10 knows the conference is a joke. The only team you could even argue is worth anything is OSU, and they’ve been embarassed the last 2 years when facing real competition and are now relying on a true freshman to lead their overrated team.

This, and the fact that USC is beating jv teams by 60 points and they are ranked 5th just shows you the flaws of these BCS rankings.

Simply put, BAMA rose to prominence this season through the self destruction of UGA’s first half fiasco. UGA whipped BAMA during the second half. UGA simply got themselves in a deep hole like they did against WEST VIRGINIA a couple of years ago. BAMA could not beat TEXAS or OKLAHOMA during any week of this season and could not beat either UGA or UF now and will not improve that much by the SEC championship. Everyone knows that pride comes before the fall, but BAMA’s aggrandizing view of itself is delusional at best and incredibly funny to say the least!

To all those that complain about “whining”. We are football fans and Americans, whining is what football fans and Americans do. People whine about their houses being foreclosed on, well if You don’t make Your payments, it happens! It’s not like forecloser is some new wrinkle banks thought of yesterday. We whine about the high cost of food when just a couple of years ago many whined about Ag programs costing the taxpayers too much money. Take away support programs and You pay world market prices for Your food. People should have seen more expensive food coming! Whine about the high cost of gas, then put 50 gallons in Your SUV. The same SUV that YOu use to commute 30 miles one way to work, and in which You are the lone passenger. So Your coach averages 10 wins a year and has a winning bowl record, what has he done this year? If he doesn’t get to a BCS bowl this year he needs to he fired! Most football fans are spoiled by nature, especially the ones that have free time, like we on this blog do, and the time and money required to actually go to games. Add a team that wins most of it’s games into the mix and the fans are doubly spoiled. Do You hear Duke and Vandy fans whining? How about Northwestern, or Stanford fans. So quit whining about whining. Whining is as American as apple pie!

The difference between Fl and Ga will be pretty much the same as last year. Georgia has a balanced attack, Fl is one dimensional. Georgia has a better defence, and it matches up better w/ Floridas’ than against an Alabama/LSU style power offense. The officials are the wild card. Are they going to disrupt the Dawgs early to punish them for last year? Even Lou “he juice” Holtz asked last night how much of Georgia’s penalty situation this year was to being undisciplined and how much was officials maybe thinking about that dance last year. Finally, if the Dawgs win Saturday, can we talk about 3 out of five instead of 3 out of 18 incessantly? These Dawgs don’t fear Florida, Florida fears them.

Tony, did Fulmer show Johnny Majors any loyalty? NO! Then he rats out Bama to save his own hide which coincided with the loss of Rodney Garner to UGA. Since then UT has not been the same & has gone on roller coaster ride which looks to end for Filthy Phil this year. Part of me’s is happy that he’s been exposed & is getting what’s coming to him. However another part of me is going to be sad because he won’t be around for me to hate on anymore. OBSERVATIONS:

If Alabama is overrated, what does that make Georgia? Alabama put up 31 in the first half against Georgia, and definitely played soft in the second half, as would be expected.

Tim Tebow - why is one loss against Georgia so hard to swallow? Do you truly think that you are so good that Florida will never lose a game with you at QB? Why all the tears? Get over yourself and stop believing all the hype the Florida fans bestow on you every day.

Tennessee - please keep Phil Fulmer a few more years. The rest of us in the SEC are enjoying your lack of success! Actually, you have short memories. Tennessee played in the SEC Championship game last year. Not Georgia. Not Florida. Tennessee. Also, Tennessee won a NC in 1998 - only 10 years ago. There are a lot of great coaches out there that haven’t won a NC in the last 10 years. Go ahead - fire him - who are you going to get better?

The UGA offense really needs to help the defense with ball control on Saturday afternoon. All that Flordia speed is just scary and we need to keep those guys off the field as much as possible. The other thing that scares me about UF is those special teams, Mimbs and that punt team especially really need to have an A+ game come Saturday. As a UGA fan I have to be honest. We don’t stand a chance on Saturday. The only reason we won last year was because Tebow was only 45% of his superhuman self. We don’t have the OL, DL or DBs to even be on the field with the speed and power of the gators. I only hope there is enough flesh on the bone so that we can show up at Kentucky the following week. I hear we may have to forfeit that one. I look for the gators to win by 60-70 points, easy. The scoreboard has been altered this week by Coach Meyer to add a third digit on the visitors side, in anticipation. Georgia is the home team and has decided to wear white. They hope that the sight of all of that blood they shed will somehow bring out some mercy in Tebow and the mighty gators. Finally, about Tim Tebow. Unlike Chuck Norris, Tim Tebow can slam a revolving door.

USC fans- anyone who knows sports knows that any team can beat any team on any given Saturday or Sunday. Just ask Boise St., App. St., NY Giants and Stanford to name a few. You play a jv schedule every year, blow them out and you don’t play a conference championship game.

As a result you are favored to make it to the NC game every year. If you don’t, you surely won your conference (through regular season play) which means you will go to the Rose Bowl and play someone not named Ohio St (who is in the same situation by playing weak opponents. If they are playing in the NC you play some 2nd rate team like Illinois).

Do you not see the parity in other conferences besides yours?? Out of the SEC, every year, 4-5 teams have realistic chances of winning their conference. Big 12 has 2-3 teams. Big 10 can be argued to have 2. Pac-10? 1. Nobody is even picked to have a snow ball’s chance in hell of even thinking of being in contention of the Pac 10 title. When you guys lose a game everyone is shocked!!! Do you not find it weird that every year you are picked to go undefeated, or do you honestly think that you are that good?

Had a brawl erupted the image of both universities would have been tarnished for a stupid incident. Our Gators lost because they played lousy defense and UGA wanted it more than our Gators. Now all of the chomping and barking can stop until the guys on the field produce a winner. I want the Gators to win, but UGA is a very good team which also has a lot at stake in this game. Someone mentioned that UF still has to play South Carolina and FSU. They also have to travel to Nashville to play Vanderbilt, although Vandy has struggled lately (lost to Duke) they are still a solid team. UF is vulnerable and even if they do beat UGA they will lose again this year, thus eliminiating them from any national championship hopes and possibly the SEC championship. So UGA could lose but still win SEC-East and play Alabama in Atlanta in December.

6 straight 11 win seasons (Best in NCAA)

6 straight conference championships (Best in NCAA)

6 straight BCS bowls (Best in NCAA)

5-1 BCS Bowl record (Best in NCAA)*

All valid points. Especially with the SEC 0- whatever against USC. Southern Cal is a football powerhouse. They have athletic competitive teams year after year, I’ll give you that no problem.

Too bad they play in a crappy conference that they win every year. As a result… Of course USC is going to go to the NC or Rose Bowl every year!!!! Nobody else can take you down, other than Oregon State.

6 straight 11 win seasons, 6 straight BCS bowls, and 5-1 Record in BCS bowls against Big 11 teams sounds impressive until you look at their schedule. If USC doesn’t meet these expectations, they’ve had a horrible year. That definitely takes a genius to figure it out.

Coach Cutt will not go back to Tenn for another reason also. He has a much easier time building a program at Duke than he has resurrecting the UT program. Too much competition in the SEC East and over expecting fans do not make for a fun rebuilding job up in Knoxville. One of the lessons that should be learned in life is not to predict what your team will or will not do. It is kind of like asking your kids to perform on cue. We all know what happens next, they don’t. It is futile and ridiculous to predict which team will win. It is better to just support your team, without trashing someone else’s and then smile when you get the win. That is the best vindication. All this braggadocio is useless. How old are you people?— 12? Come on, I am a die hard UGA fan and love to cheer for the Dawgs, but both teams are good and it will be a hard fought game. I hope the DAWGS are the winner, but no matter how much I dislike Florida, they are still a good team. With all of the emotion in this game and everything that is riding on it, anyone who thinks they know who the winner will be is just showing their ignorance. It can go either way. It is far better to keep your prognostications to your self and, should victory come your way, celebrate it and the fact that all those who trashed your team just proved themselves fools.
As for the USC fan, just ignore that trash talk, no one in the SEC cares at all about USC right now. And let’s demonstrate that southern class and hospitality, no matter which SEC team you pull for, which makes us the better people. All that vulgar talking and bragging only confirms their lack of class. Come on SEC fans, let’s take the high road.
No matter what kind of fan you are, the only thing that matters is this year. Last year, 10 years ago, 20 years ago doesn’t matter. At the end of the season, this years’ records are the only ones that count. I am pulling for UGA’s to be impressive. GO DAWGS, Sic ‘em!!!!

Sure, give us an unbeaten Penn State in the Rose Bowl, We would love it.

We’ll put a 51-7 beating on them, while the SEC and Big 12 chumps play with them selves, and split the title like back in 2003.

Bring it on NC #3.

WE ARE USC

Seriously,

If the 2002 thru 2008 Trojans played in the SEC they would consistently challenge for the SEC Championship; they would have won at least 3; 2003, 04, 05. This year they would be challenging Florida and Bama for the title (sorry UGA you would be 4th best), and a NC birth.

They would not have 11 wins a year like they have in the PAC 10, but they would have. Been 10-2 or better, except maybe 2002, they may have lost 3.

Now that assumes recruiting like Carroll has had. In reality they would not recruit as well if they were in the SEC, assuming they were located in the south. Who in there right mind would leave California to play in Mayberry?

LOL, just kidding about the Mayberry crack, couldn’t resist.

You know how the song goes, “the west coast has the sunshine and the girls all get so tanned”. LOL ;-)

I keep hearing UGA fans clamoring for a rematch and saying UGA played so well in the second half. Get real! Bama jumped up by 31 in the first half and was still leading by 24 with 4 minutes left in the game. You guys were never close to coming back.

UGA fans can talk all the junk you want, but be honest with yourself: Do you really think the UGA players want another piece of Bama? We didn’t just whip you on the scoreboard, Bama physically destroyed UGA. How many UGA players were injured in that game?

Eating meat creates anger, so Coach Carroll only feeds Rey Rey meat on Friday night. Rey Rey is handed a Samoan war club and is locked in a room with a live boar! After dining all night on bloody raw pork Rey Rey is ready for quarterbacks on Saturday.

To the genius that stated “Penn State beat Oregon State by more than 30 points. USC lost by six. End of story”

Try this on for size.

Middle Tennessee State beat Maryland Maryland stomped Wake Forest Wake Forest beat Ole Miss Ole Miss beat Florida. End of Story (well not quite)

Florida has beat everyone else they played in the SEC

Sooo, MTS would be a contender in the SEC.

That is what that type of logic gets you, genius.

FSU has found itself and I am glad. Lets keep the winningest coach down south. It will be a good game with Tech this weekend. Tech can play as physical as FSU maybe for the first time since they have played against each other in the ACC. Against teams like Virginia, Tech wears itself out because they are pushing on a lot of weight, but against FSU it will be a lot of speed and hard hitting, fun stuff to watch and a better set up for Tech. They will still be lucky to win, but it will be a good game either way with great coaching.

Got12? is the true definition of IDIOT. Nick Saban was ticked after that UGA comeback. In fact, he was scared to death when it was 31-17. Good for Bama that their O responded with that Sr. QB. But to say UGA did not rally is ludicrous.

This game is for the the SEC East. Period. The winner can lose one more SEC game and STILL win the SEC East. Do the math.

May the best team win. It will be a great game, hopefully with some defense for a change (doubtful!)

i think the biggest game with Florida was the Buck Belue game back in 80. If this one ends up being more than that one it will have to go some. Lindsey Scott even for this Yellow Jacket who was at Grant Field watching a sorry Georgia Tech team tie the number one Irish to give that ranking to Georgia, was the memory of my lifetime for college football in Georgia. That Belue seems to be a pretty good egg too entirely ruining my image of a guy who went to Georgia. Good luck Dawgs you got your hands full but you can do it.

Tony your a fool for wording this article like you did…….HOW THE &^& IS THIS A BCS Elimination game when theres a 70% chance the winner of this game WONT BE IN THE BIG GAME!???

Say Alabama stays unbeaten until they loose in the sec championship…. .that SEC winner would STILL have to jump over a possible 1 loss USC, Texas, OU….to have a right to play Penn State in the big game. (you know… the ONLY game that matters!!)
So you REALLY trust the SYSTEM to get it right??
Wow you must believe in the toothfairy 2…

There is no way the human polls are going to let the Dawgs or Gators leap over their beloved Trojans. The media and the coaches want the big market of LA in the title game. Look what happened when USC lost to an unranked team and what happened when UGA lost to a top 10 team. Who tumbled farther in the polls? Strength of schedule has meant nothing to the human polls in forever, and this year is not the year they show love for the Dawgs or the Gators. Without a lot of losing by the teams ahead of them, Bama is the only SEC team with a chance, and they must go undefeated to have a chance. Sentiment is growing for Paterno and Penn State despite their dubious conference strength. Don’t be shocked if an undefeated Texas plays the Nittany Lions even if the Tide runs the table. A travesty? Yes. Probable? Very. The one conference that should have nothing to prove has to do just that on a yearly basis. All this talk about the Big 12 being so great is garbage. Tennessee would average 30 points a game in the Big 12. They’d still be a .500 team at best, but they would put up some big numbers on offense. I’d say LSU could win the Big 12 this year, and they’re the 4th best team in the SEC.

Chuck UGA,

I watch the blackout game weekly. (Thank you, DVR.)

The 17 straight points you scored to start the second half meant nothing within the context of the game. Maybe it meant something confidence-wise for the UGA players. During the third quarter, the only person on the Bama side of the field who was worried or excited was the UGA ball boy.
